Has there been an army game with eusocial organisms yet?
Ants, termites, bees, wasps, mole rats,
Heck, you could do different design philosophy of bees, wasps and ants to pad out the factions!
Some species like Austroplatypus incompertus beetles that might not make for good armies but would still want to include could be NPC factions you can raid or trade with.
Perhaps a eusocial Synalpheus shrimp faction inexplicably on land could be fun.

An idea I've had for a while is a hypothetical video game titled "War In Heaven", a RTS game where all the factions are different heavenly parties. here are some of my ideas for it:
-instead of a simple flat plan, the maps are arranged into 5 Z-levels you can rise up and down through with the players starting on Z-level 3, allowing for theatres of war above and below alongside to the sides.
-the default, most basic faction is the Heavenly Host as led by God, which are a pretty standard generalist RTS faction with their leader power being Smite, a AOE ability that instantly kills all units within it's radius regardless of health which goes through in a straight line up and down all the different Z-levels.
-next are the Brigade Of Dis as led by the 7 Demon Princes. instead of supply acting as a unit cap, it is instead a resource passively drained by units that can be regained by killing enemy units and buildings. their leader ability is Bloodlust, which makes all their units stronger and tougher for a short period of time.
-then is the Nature Spirits as led by Gaia who are a bit like the starcraft zerg in that their buildings can only be built on creep that grows out from their pre-existing buildings. their leader ability is Overgrowth with disables all the buildings of one of the enemy players for a short period of time.
-next is the Lunatic Horde as led by The Stars Below who spawn on Z-level 5 instead of 3 and only have two units, a small, cheap cultist and a tough, expensive shoggoth, and every unit they make has a random ability, attack, aura, whatever, taken from a pool of about 12. cultists have one power and shoggoths have 3. their leader power is Madness, a AOE ability that makes all enemy units in it's radius switch sides.
-And last is are The Machines as led by The Internet who have the starcraft protoss mechanic of needing to place their buildings within a radius of their supply building (in this case, a WiFi tower), and are completely immune to magic at the expense of have any kind of magic themselves. their leader ability is Science Marches On, a one-time only power which makes all their units immune to damage for a short period of time.
The Machines would also not show up in any ads or sponsorships or marketing and be kept secret until release where they are also kept secret until the end of the campaign where they suddenly show up as the final antagonist and are unlocked in freeplay.

I am absolutely obsessed with Against the Storm. It's hitting the spot that games like this haven't for me in a long time.
What game really has you by the metaphorical throat right now?

Actually I'm not done talking about Tooth and Tail
If you haven't heard about this game, Tooth and Tail came out about 5 years ago. It's a Real Time Strategy game set in a world full of talk animals similar to Redwall, An American Tail, Secret of Nimh or other such similar media. The primary difference is these animals have guns, and they are all cannibals.
youtube
The animals all try to live in with each other harmony but they all still need to eat meat. But if you live in a society where every form of animal lives and talks back, how do you choose who to eat? The "civilized" solution is every few months a harvest is called and citizens are selected randomly to be taken to be killed for meat. This process falls to corruption almost immediately (or was already a corrupt process to begin with) and it becomes very apparent that the animals at the top of society, The Civilized, who just so happen to run the lottery never themselves get called for harvest.
The game is an Real Time Strategy game where you play as one of the leaders of the four factions and wave your flag to command units to move to you or hold positions.
Tumblr media
It's a very simplified RTS system meant so it can be played easily with a controller, but none the less I am terrible at RTS games and get overloaded as soon as I need to keep track of more than one unit. Because of this my primary experience with the game is through their promotional materials and Let's Plays. That said, I love this game. I love the art style. Both the unit portraits and the sprite art in game. I love the messed up world it takes place in!
Tumblr media
The art was done by Jerome Jacinto who has also done work on the games Armello and Ghost of a Tale. Artstation link, check him out!!!
Above all else, I love the music. The soundtrack for this game is amazing, please give it a listen!
youtube
This music is what I hear when I think of "The Old Country" and I think it fits the game perfectly.
Not really sure what else I can say about this game, I just want to talk about it a bit because it's a cool indie game that I hope the Devs get a chance to do more with! Thanks for reading!

What’s stronger: 4x strategy game mechanics or Tabletop RPG mechanics? Takuto’s learned the hard way what happens when he doesn’t take other game mechanics seriously. Now he’s set himself on a path to make an enemy of the whole world to achieve an Ascension Victory, but it won’t be easy with a TRPG Witch coming for Mynoghra. Find out how our favorite evil civilization tackles this new enemy in Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra: World Conquest Starts with the Civilization of Ruin, Volume 4 today!

RTS Games: Are You a Macro Mastermind or Micro Maestro?
I'm delighted to share my recent blog article on game design and RTS games! 🎮🕹️ Check out my approach to macro management in #RTSgames. #GameDesigner #GameDevelopment #GamingInsights #AdobeFirefly
Today, I want to talk about real-time strategy (RTS) games and share my unique approach to an essential aspect of gameplay – micro and macro management, with a particular focus on macro-management. For those not familiar with the terms, micro-management involves controlling individual units in the heat of battle, making split-second decisions to maximize their effectiveness. On the other hand,…
