OH WHAT A FUN QUESTION! The first two I think of most probably would assume I kin based on my kinlist + general vibe are Lapis Lazuli (su) and Starlight Glimmer (mlp) but I ended up being Jasper, and Trixie Lulamoon + Sunset Shimmer, Starlight and Lapis are huge comfort characters for me instead, and have been since I got into the sources many moons ago. I relate to them a lot still, especially in their traumas, but that's why my attachment to them is so strong. I see myself in them so much it's comforting and they helped through a lot of emotional issues, but, for one reason or another they're not me. As a sweet addition, I met my girlfriend when Lapis and Starlight were some of her biggest! and I think that's cute of us ♡

people probably expected me to be Claudine (revstar) and Apple White (eah) but nope! I'm actually Darling Charming and Maya Tendou. and both make sense when you think about it in context to me but it's still kinda silly. Idk if this is exactly what you wanted because all 4 instances for me are ccs instead of just random characters i didn't kin but i hope it was fun insight nonetheless! 🌺

hello, I saw your RCU post and I would like to say that Rondo does canonically take place in between the anime and the movie, since in one of the Nana scenes, she has a picture from the 100th Starlight play, indicating that the giraffe put her into a loop one more time or smth, and that's why the order of the revues is different

?? i know Rondo takes place between the Anime series and Gekijouban, and as a "recap movie" its in the same timeline even. that's why there's a long print at the bottom of Rondo's photo that explicitly states its a personal theory that its possible to consider Rondo as a recap told in Nana's perspective, thus potentially Technically counting as an alternative of the anime

the giraffe also didnt place her in another loop, the giraffe and nana canonically do also just hang out in the magic basement (that is also canonically capable of remaking stages from memory) so its likely they actually just spent that entire time chatting about the starlight that had happened.

somewhat relatedly, the interviews/commentaries also confirm that the giraffe isnt even the moderator for the wild screen revues, its all just nana. which highly implies that nana is more than capable of moving the magical stage herself - its no longer even necessary for the giraffe to do anything for things to happen among them

Revue Starlight El Dorado, ohhhhhh I need it to get an English translation please,,, just getting to see the translation of the announcement trailer and I’m already awestruck.

The first line seems likely to be a line from the play El Dorado, but is almost certainly also in reference to Hikari and Karen. Especially consider Karen is the narrator for this and it’s her who must undertake the journey.

In the movie El Dorado was mostly used to frame Hikari leaving Karen behind. But this specifically mentions fate’s revenge which feels like a reference to their stage of fate if I had to guess. At the end of the movie everyone from Seisho, but crucially Karen and Hikari both “see the horizon” and move on to their next stage. But of course they are leaving - Starlight - their stage of fate. My guess would be the game will follow them trying to realize their next stage. To set out on a journey is one thing, but they are all leaving Seisho and going into uncharted waters, it surely won’t be simple.

With the ending showing (presumably Karen’s) revue boots standing at the shore with the button on the ground it feels pretty likely that it’ll be a follow up to the movie. I would love to see characters from the stage plays and relive, but considering the movie leaves off with everyone in Seisho abandoning their cloaks and the fact that El Dorado was mentioned in the movie, yeah it seems likely.

The watery abyss feels very striking. It ends the trailer and has one heck of a kick to it. As far as I can think of the watery abyss might be juxtaposing Hikari’s fated stage of eternal starlight that was a desert? Maybe? But it seems most likely to be directly related to the play of El Dorado considering what we know about it.

I’m really excited to learn about El Dorado. I mean it’s another play in revstar’s universe and is I think the first time there’s ever been a play other than Starlight in the title for anything Revue Starlight related (except maybe Arcana Arcadia? Does that count?). I think that’s another strong indicator that the game will be moving forward and continuing the story. They all are leaving Seisho, Karen and Hikari aren’t bound by Starlight any more, it’s really time to move forwards into a new story.

It seems like Karen will be the focus? Or she could just be the introduction, either would honestly make sense. But I really do hope we get to see everyone from Seisho and their next stages. (Plus characters besides Seisho would be cool, I mean we know Junna and Akira are living together… and there’s a bunch at New National… itd be neat).

That was a much longer ramble than I intended. I don’t even know how accurate those subtitles I saw were! But please please please get an English translation, I want to play this game so badly. Revue Starlight is cool :)

hiii i saw you said you wanted to watch revstar anime [stares directly into your soul] (just wanted to say its pretty much NOTHING like the game, the portrayal of the universe is very fantasy-esque and in your face in the game, but the whole anime is lowkey and more of a metaphor of the japanese theater industry (like, you could argue which parts of the story actually happened and which where just an artistic representation of real life events or emotional struggle), its also so beautiful and the score is Phenomenal you should absolutely watch it when you get a chance (and also the movies)))

Kaoruko's day 2 opponent was actually Hikari

Oof I was hoping no one else would notice that, but I really shouldn’t have discounted a revstar fan’s ability to notice small details

So for day 3, we know what Maya, Karen, Futaba, Claudine, and Hikari were up to. This leaves us with Junna, Nana, Kaoruko, and Mahiru for potential matches. And this is kind of all Junna’s fault since Junna vs Mahiru happens on day 7, Junna vs Kaoruko happens on day 4, and Junna vs Nana never happens during this audition.

So to avoid any repeat matches, I had to push Kaoruko vs Hikari to day 3. Technically it works even if Hikari really should have had her bye on that day, and the in universe explanation will be that Hikari just finished her revue with Kaoruko before the Revue of Pride and only after this stunt the giraffe has them all take place simultaneously from now on to avoid someone sabotaging others in the future

But honestly good catch! It really makes me happy that you guys are noticed the canon details as well which makes my effort to sort them all out feel worth it!

hello! i would just like to ask whether you also plan to watch the revue starlight stageplays? i know the plays are less accessible than the anime but i want to recommend them anyways because the seiyuus are all great singers and the plays have fantastic songs (and if you also enjoy the over-the-top eagerness that comes hand-in-hand with play acting, i am so fond of the actresses and the props) and i think its just a fun experience to have of the show that IS about theater

BUT. okay okay really i wanted to recommend them because i saw your latest reblog with the webweaving tag on starlight being a tragedy told long ago and a tragedy that continues to be told by the narrative. and i thought you Might also be interested in how the stageplays show just how deep the revstar characters are in this narrative cycle of tragedy,,

if you do want to give the plays a try but r having difficulties in getting the subbed versions, just let me know and i can help out :D

(fair warning about the plays tho, as with the entire revstar franchise, they do occur in a universe thats one two steps to the left of the anime so there are things there that are very much not the same as the anime nor the game e.g. almost everyone is more feral, the banana timeloops not quite existing, a couple of new characters, etc etc)

yes, i am absolutely planning to watch the stage plays and am suitably prepared to accept the alternative canon of it! i read the manga adaptations first so at the very least tendou "i am ready and willing to scalp all my classmates at any moment, especially you claudine" maya will not catch me off guard. i am SO looking forward to kagayra "i am equally ready to sling the most out of pocket shit you've ever heard from a stage girl's mouth" hickory also. AND i will readily admit that whenever i watch clips i immediately gravitate to saijou "have you ever seen a flouncier, fruitier, more fabulous woman" claudine. need i even say anything about ikuta teru. i ADORE their stage versions, although the anime will always have position zero in my heart.

i've rustled up links to the first and second stageplays subbed, but the rest of the stageplays i've found are unsubbed, so i would very much appreciate the help. Just FYI, I sincerely hope people don't... take my fandom word as the One And Only Truth?

It's just that I get a lot of asks (LOVE THEM <3), but then I see people saying: "I didn't have a good experience in [fandom] because they made me feel stupid." I am just one person. I do not Know or Understand the source material any better than you do. I'm not particularily smart, I'm not an academic or an industry professional, I'm just a fellow fan with One Brain and my own experiences and biases that I bring into fandom.

Though I'm flattered and overjoyed when people want to hear my opinion on a certain thing (because I love talking about my interests, so please keep sending them!!!), I also hope everyone always understands that it's also ... just an opinion. And at any point you're allowed to say "Hm, I don't think I agree with you." or "Oh, I always interpreted this differently."

Like, especially with something like Revstar it's important to me that people can enjoy it themselves and draw their own conclusions because there are so many ways you can read it. Because it's a damn good show and I only want to spread the word & love for it. My inbox is always open for people to share a different angle, in fact I highly encourage this!

IDK where to go with this, I'm just ranting. I'm also not influential or anything, I just wrote this because it makes me sad when people are being elitist about stupid fandom drama that only turns other fans away from the joy. But this isn't to be negative, it's just to make things clear: This blog is always open to discussion, headcanons are highly encouraged, and as long as everything can stay respectful, I also definitely want people to feel comfortable expressing criticism or disagreement with me. So I’m curious on whether there’s any official information on the characters’ ages in RevStar, because I looked in a few places and couldn’t find anything conclusive. I have made what I think is a pretty solid estimate with a little bit of research, though, on the off chance anyone is interested.

To start with obviously Seisho is a vocational college focussing specifically on music and the performing arts, so though its students could be high school age it’s more probable that it’s post-secondary school a.k.a. an equivalent of sorts to university which would mean that the students’ ages range from 18-22 depending on which year they’re in and when their birthday is.

But the thing that made me wonder about it in the first place was the fact that in both the sub and dub versions of the show Karen asks for an adult ticket when she goes to the aquarium to try and find Hikari in Episode 4. And based on what I could find, you have to be 20 to be considered an adult in Japan. Now, according to the wiki Karen’s birthday is September 27th so pretty early in the academic year, which seems to tie up since that would mean she could well have been 20 by the time of that episode if her birthday had already happened.

Of course, it is also possible that the age for an adult ticket in that aquarium was lower than 20 as it can vary so it’s not conclusive on its own, but combined with the fact that Seisho is most likely a post-high school/university-level academy it seems to make the most sense to place all of the second year characters so basically all of the main cast at 19-20 years old during the show.

If anyone has any more concrete information that proves any of this wrong then please feel free to correct me but this seems like the most logical conclusion based on what we’re given.
