Day 1 || Full study plan
Hey fellow language enthusiasts! ๐Ÿ‘‹ Ever wondered about those intriguing honorific verb endings in Korean? ๐Ÿค” Let's dive into the world of linguistic respect and uncover the magic behind these verb endings that add an extra layer of politeness and cultural understanding. ๐Ÿ’ฌ๐Ÿ“š
1. Politeness in Action:
Korean honorific verb endings are used to show respect and politeness when speaking to someone of higher social status, age, or authority. They reflect the rich cultural emphasis on hierarchical relationships. ๐Ÿ™‡โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ™‡โ€โ™‚๏ธ
2. Adding the Magic:
Take the verb stem (the root form of the verb) and attach the appropriate honorific ending to create a respectful sentence. Let's explore some examples using the verb "to eat":
Casual: ๋จน์–ด์š” - Let's eat.
Polite: ๋จน์Šต๋‹ˆ๋‹ค - I will eat.
Honorific: ๋“œ์‹ญ๋‹ˆ๋‹ค - You (respectful) eat.
Now try it for yourself with some other verbs!
3. Variations for Nouns:
Honorifics aren't just for verbs! Nouns can also be elevated to show respect. For instance, "friend" (์นœ๊ตฌ) becomes "honorable friend" (์นœ๊ตฌ๋‹˜) in an honorific context.
4. Social Nuances:
Different honorific endings convey varying degrees of politeness and familiarity. For instance, using "-์‹œ-" shows a high level of respect, while "-์„ธ์š”" is a polite request form.
5. Daily Etiquette:
Korean honorifics are part of daily communication. Whether you're addressing your elders, bosses, or strangers, mastering these endings ensures you navigate social situations gracefully.
6. Cultural Sensitivity:
Embrace the beauty of cultural sensitivity! Learning honorifics not only enhances your language skills but also deepens your understanding of Korean society and values. ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท
So, the next time you engage in a Korean conversation, remember the enchanting honorific verb endings that make the language a true linguistic gem. ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท Happy learning, language lovers! ๐ŸŒŸโœจ

~~AN ACTUAL REAL KOREAN SEMESTER!~~
You read that right. I have completely turned my whole first semester that I studied in Korea, into tumblr content! This took forever to make, but Iโ€™m happy to be sharing this with all of you! So hereโ€™s the schedule:
GRAMMAR -ย  Tuesdays
The actual grammar notes I made during my studies in Korea. I will note for this; I am a very bullet-point kinda study person, so the grammar notes might be a bit short. BUT, google will always be your best friend. The grammar will help you keep a guideline as to which topics to study!
VOCABULARY - Thursdays
Study the actual vocabulary that comes with the chapter and grammar! This vocabulary + extra vocabulary can be found on my memriseย under โ€œlevel 1 CNUโ€! Week 5 is equal to chapter 11, since we did 2 to 3 chapters per week (see below).
PRACTICE - Saturdays
Practice the grammar and vocabulary that was given! Make sure you understand what youโ€™ve learned and get creative. Practice is key, so definitely do not skip this!
MOCK TESTS - Every 4 chapters!
Every 4 chapters thereโ€™s a little mock test, to see if you fully understood the grammar and remember all the vocabulary! NO CHEATING! ใ…Žใ…Ž
What else?
In total there will be 28 chapters, so 28 weeks for this full semester here on Tumblr. In real life, the semester was only 10 weeks, but since studying on your own takes more time and dedication, Iโ€™ve decided to split it up to keep it doable.ย
Make sure you join our discord group, here youโ€™re free to post your answers to the practices so it can be corrected, ask for help or simply study together with others! Do not forget to read the rules, so you can actually get access to the server.ย
Donโ€™t want to join on discord, but still need help or corrections? Feel free to send me a DM or anย ask
