A Work Proposal (Part 8)

You had been working with Stray Kids for a while now and after a long day at work turns into a very unexpected but intriguing proposal. Will this change your world or end your career?

"They will steal you from us?" Jeongin asked wide eyed "Can they do that?"

Chan had done his best during the whole turbulent time to make sure that regardless of what happened you would come out of every situation clean of any trashy rumors and he had kept his word, you discovered, when one of your friends from the legal department emailed you a copy of the NDA that Eui had been asked to sign before her termination making it impossible for her to tell the press anything without the threat of massive legal action. Everything had started to run smoothly again and as winter break approached you hope everything would be finalized for the new year to start again.

"Jagi?" Felix grinned looking at you with bright eyes "Did you want to come shopping with me tonight? I need to pick up some gifts for a few people"

"Course Felix, that sounds like a fun distraction as long as none of the presents are for me" you smiled genuinely at him.

"What if instead of a present I bought us snacks?" he chirped looking happy that you had agreed to go with him.

"Snacks are acceptable" you beamed collecting up your tablet and photo card samples that you had brought down to show them "Did you want me to meet you back down here later or should I just meet you there?"

"Back down here is fine we can head to the dorm the go if you want" his eyes shone as he spoke making you melt for him, Felix had that effect of most people if he was happy everything was good in the world.

You left for your desk feeling like you at least would have something fun to keep you feeling positive and playing the role of Felix's assistant while he shopped sounded more enjoyable and less taxing than anything else you were likely to do. Making your way back down to the dance studio you found yourself taking a seat waiting for the guys to finish up, you watched them go through one last song before Felix grinned at you and hurried off to shower and change so you could leave straight from the company. This left you with Hyunjin and Minho who immediately took advantage of your presence to show you a piece that they had been working on for a few months.

"This one is just for us" Hyunjin smiled dazzlingly at you "its just the three of us, and its different to our usual sort of things"

"How so?" you asked tilting your head slightly confused but your interest piqued.

"It's far more sensual than anything we would do as a whole group" Minho smirked as he went to start the music. You watched mesmerized as the two of them moved noticing the space that Felix should be occupying and trying your hardest not to give in to the temptation to stare too longingly at the pair of them. They watched you as carefully as you watched them, their eyes mapping your every facial expression, every lip bite and every time you licked your lips.

"Jagi?" Felix called as he walked back into the studio his hair done and his clothes changed into more street ware, black jeans that made his legs look amazing, white t-shirt and a black leather jacket he always looked so effortlessly sexy.

"Looking handsome Felix" you smiled teasing him a little and watching his cheeks warm up.

"I'd say you look good too but you always look beautiful" He smiled back warmly walking over to take your hand and lead you from the studio to the car waiting for you both.

"Did you like the choreography? were going to work on a few projects as units so this is the beginning of ours" he explained letting go of your hand but guiding you through the hallways with his hand on your lower back.

You smiled at him as he opened to door of the car for you to step into asking the driver to take you to the mall and leave you there until he was needed again.

You had been in the VIP area of luxury boutiques before, the Itzy girls had always had you tag alone with them when they shopped, but it was strange to be treated like you were the same as Felix not just as his assistant. You had been treated like a princess by the staff at both Chanel and Saint Laurent, each going above and beyond to show you endless jewelry, bags and clothes as Felix tried on the shirt he wanted to get for Hyunjin, noting anything you particularly liked on a tablet that was located on the sided table by the door, making you a little suspicious.

"Do you think Hyunjin will like it?" Felix's voice broke your train of thought making you stand and walk over to the changing area, Felix looked incredible in the black silk button up shirt that he was wanting to get for Hyunjin "Jagi?" he giggled.

"Sorry...I think he will love it" you smiled bashfully biting your lip in embarrassment at being caught looking at him so longingly in public.

"Felix, why are they treating me so well?" you whispered hoping not to be overheard by the security that had been assigned to escort you between the designer stores.

"Oh, I told them you are my girlfriend and need to be treated well" he blushed slightly biting his lip.

"Besides everyone has been keeping track of what you like so that we will know what to get you for presents, its win win really"

The same thing happened in Dior and then again in Prada which only made Felix grin every time he caught your eye. Finally after buying the final gift in Prada Felix led you back to the car to take you home again.

"Would it be alright if I leave a couple of these with you? Innie is really bad at searching for gifts" he chuckled rolling his eyes.

"Of course Felix, did you want me to just take them up or did you want to bring them in yourself?" you asked softly not wanting to seem like you were pressuring him for more time if that isn't what he wanted.

"I'll bring them up" he smiled brightly as the driver opened the door for you helping you from the car.

You walked into your apartment, flowers that Minho had sent you were sitting on your coffee table, the blazer Jeogin had bought you draped over the back of the sofa and the purse he and Han had gotten you hanging securely on a hook beside your door making Felix smile more.

"I'm glad the others take good care of you" he murmured placing the shopping bags on the couch turning back to you to cup your cheek stroking your cheek bone softly "Am I allowed to kiss you again jagi?"

'Strongest Baseball' opening match

Lee Deok-hwa and Lee Kyung-gyu of Channel A's 'Urban Fisherman' showed off their loyalty to Jang Si-won PD.

Lee Deok-hwa and Lee Kyung-gu will appear as the first pitcher before the opening of JTBC's new entertainment program 'Strongest Baseball', which will be broadcast for the first time at 10:30 pm on the 6th.

'Strongest Baseball' is a baseball reality program that competes against strong baseball teams across the country with the aspiration to form an 11th team that can compete with professional baseball teams.

Producer Jang Si-won, who directed 'Urban Fisherman', moved to JTBC and attracted attention as the first program to be presented.

Deok-hwa Lee and Kyung-gyu Lee visited Gocheok Dome to support the new start of PD Jang, who made a relationship with 'Urban Fisherman', and pray for the victory of 'Strongest Monsters' of 'Strongest Baseball'.

The starter Lee Deok-hwa raised the morale of the 'Strongest Baseball' team by saying, "I hope that the new beginning of the strongest Monsters will instill happiness in many baseball fans. Long live the (strongest) Monsters."

It is said that Lee Kyung-gyu, who had a considerable influence on PD Jang's selection of Lee Seung-yeop as the director of 'Strongest Monsters', also drew cheers from the opponents of Deoksu High School with his thanks.

Deoksu High School, the first opponent of 'The Strongest Monsters', is a prestigious baseball team that achieved a grand slam in the top 5 high school national tournaments. Ace pitcher Shim Jun-seok is called the greatest high school baseball player and is the number one watchdog for throwing a high-speed ball with a maximum speed of 157 km/h.

'Strongest Monsters' is directed by Lee Seung-yeop and consists of Park Yong-taek, Song Seung-jun, Shim Su-chang, Jang Won-sam, Yoo Hee-kwan, Jung Sung-hoon, Lee Taek-geun, Jung Geun-woo, Seo Dong-wook, Jeong Eui-yun, Lee Hong-gu, Han Kyung-bin, Yun Jun-ho, and Ryu Hyeon-in.

The production team asked, "Please wait and see if the strongest Monsters can win the first match to protect the legend's honor and announce a pleasant start."

Hello, it’s the drama I never shut up about.

Life is Beautiful (2010) was the first drama on Korean television to portray an openly gay couple (and two gay characters as leads). LiB aired on SBS, and created quite the buzz because they chose to air the couple on primetime TV. Their highest rating was 26,5% nationwide. Despite receiving quite the backlash, both from the viewers as well as religious communities, Life is Beautiful managed to deliver a solid and heartfelt story from the beginning until the very end. Mostly, the drama received a lot of love, and was even extended by 13 (!!) episodes.

When the drama starts, they are already dating. But while Kyung Soo (Lee Sang Woo) has come out, Tae Sub (Song Chang Eui) has not. Kyung Soo is also divorced. This creates quite the interesting dynamic between the two characters. Kyung Soo wouldn’t mind showing affection in public, but Tae Sub has his guard up for a large part of the drama. But through all of this, they really do adore each other. And despite being insecure and afraid, Tae Sub does not hesitate to love Kyung Soo. They also butt heads, because of their families, but these conflicts spark a lot of amazing conversations. One in particular is when Tae Sub questions why Kyung Soo lived as a “paiting” in his marriage. He asks why he chose to marry someone and stay closeted in that relationship, when he could’ve chosen not to get married. Kyung Soo explains that the his wife did nothing wrong, and that he can’t hold anything against her or regret the time he chose to stay in the marriage. He was divorced when they met, by the way.

And interesting aspect of the drama is how their families react to their sexuality. I remember two scenes vividly, because they felt so real, and because you could really feel for every side:

Because Kyung Soo is out, his mother is constantly concerned and desperately wants him to kinda “snap out of it”, for the lack of a better word. She doesn’t understand, and doesn’t WANT to understand because she knows of the prejudice his son is facing, and will have to face, from the world. Basically in the scene I’m talking about, Kyung Soo has been drinking a lot, due to the obstacles he’s facing in his relationship. He goes to shower, in attempt to lessent he hangover. His mother walks into his apartment and they have a fight (over TS and him). What she says during this fight is “Get out of it. It’s cold there.” This makes a lot of more sense when you hear it in Korean, but what she is implying is the constant judgement that comes with being in a same-sex relationship. And don’t get me wrong, his mother is pretty darn awful (she wanted to send them out of the country at one point o.o), but this conversation also highlighted her fears. Maybe she was less worried about his sexuality and more worried about how he would be treated by others for being gay.

The second scene is after Tae Sub comes out to his family. His family’s reaction is a little different. His sister, Cho Rong finds out first. She’s shocked, because her crush (Kyung Soo) is her big brother’s boyfriends klfjkfldljk, but she is super supportive. His parents are also shocked, BUT his mother is the on that reaches out her hand first. She just wants her son to be happy. Another element to this dynamic is that Tae Sub is her step-son. Tae Sub feels like a burden and doesn’t know how to engage with his mother at times, but she does not hesitate to tell him that he is her son no matter. She also the one helps his father come to terms with his sexuality. Tae Sub’s parents accepting his son was my favourite thing about this drama. It didn’t happen automatically, but it did happen and the drama did it SO WELL. It didn’t even take long before his father embraced him. And I have these screencaps from when I watched the drama (it was a long time ago, so don’t mind the quality dfklfjdf):

The scene I have gif-ed (spoiler alert) is from the last episode. Originally, this scene was supposed to take place in a church. Throughout the drama, Kyung Soo mentioned several times that he wanted to marry Tae Sub. But the scene was later altered, because of protests from the church. There is actually an academic paper that mentions this in detail, in addition to discussing the role Life is Beautiful had with its representation of a gay couple. In the scene I gif-ed, Tae Sub is telling Kyung Soo how envious he is of his brother, Ho Sub, who just got married. He implies he also wants the same. They’re wearing their couple rings. I firmly believe these are their wedding vows, re-written. And when Tae Sub says “If there is a God” I do think he’s not only being hopeful, but also expressing his frustration towards a system that continues to deny queer people their rights.

Outside of the drama, Song Chang Eui and Lee Sang Woo have talked fondly about the drama, while also adressing how much they had to work towards immersing in the characters to portray them properly. In 2010, Song Chang Eui talked about how he didn’t want to exaggerate or minimise his character. He was basically talking about how it is act out a gay character, and how to make sure it was as authentic as possible. And in 2019, Song Chang Eui even talked about how they were banned from adding any visible kiss scenes to the script, and also mentioned that the times have definitely changed since then (i.e. the society and industry has opened up more).

I absolutely recommend Life is Beautiful. Even if you skip the other couples (tho their families directly affect them and their relationship), this drama is worth it for Kyung Soo and Tae Sub alone.

This will forever be a rewatch for me even though it may not be perfectly perfect 🙃 it’s more of an ‘omg’ finally throwbacks to the kdrama You’re Beautiful’ where the second lead finally gets his girl. 🎉 in all real-ness though, the acting isn’t the greatest in this, but I do believe that has to do with bad dialogue at times. Is it cheesy, yes. Is it an easy watch. For me yes. This is one of those, it depends on if you’ll like it or hate it scenarios again. I will add the OST (original sound track) is awesome and one of the best I’ve heard. Jung Yong Hwa sounds beautiful throughout.
