Jihyun and Jaewon at the library
The whole scene with them together at the library touched my soul but the one that really tugged at my heart the most was when Jihyun waved at Jaewon with such a big fond and happy smile.
And yet again, besides its beauty, it has so so many hidden meanings. From the way they sit in the shadow or the light, to how the camera is placed and how much focus is put on Jihyun.
We see Jaewon sitting across his ex- all covered in a dim light, sun catching the left side of his face. Paired with the things he says, or doesnt say, to his ex its as if he is trying to leave the mask behind he so hates to wear. The light is searching for him.
Tumblr media
We get a shot of him from the side, where he is illuminated by soft golden light- his clothes and movements dimming the scene, showing us clearly how he continues to struggle with his mental health. But still, theres something on the horizon foreshadowed by the light shining on him.
Right after this, we get to see Jihyun sitting on the other side of the library- we get to see how happily he waves at Jaewon, with that adorable smile. The scene? Bright, not really colorful but white and clean. The color of innocence, purity and most importantly?
Hope.
Tumblr media
Jihyun is bathing in the sunlight- in white. He is Jaewons hope
The track towards Jihyun is straight, without any obstacles- except the shadow on the left side to the corridor- its what they both need to overcome to meet face to face. For the scene, they again picked the OTS/TPS (over the shoulder/third person shot) they picked for the shower scene- to make it clear we are Jaewon. To make us feel what he feels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Above Jihyun hangs a painting, representing both characters very well; its colors are:
Blue- for Jihyun its the color of trust, security, loyality, honesty and reliability. For Jaewon its the color of depression and passivness.
Green- for Jihyun its the color of harmony, safety, growth and health. For Jaewon its the color of jealousy
Yellow- For Jihyun its the color of happiness, optimism, inspiration, creativity and warmth. For Jaewon, its the color of fear, betrayal and cowardice
Orange- For Jihyun, its the color of youth and upliftment. For Jaewon its the color of insincerity and pessimism
The painting is a sunrise. The very thing Jihyun represents in Jaewons life
Its not just a cute and adorable scene, but also highlights so much about their characters, shows their personality and inner thoughts without even saying anything. And with the scene having no background noises or music, except the light buzzing, paper rustling and Jaewons soft laugh, its as if we're watching something so intimate, almost holy.
Its truly beautiful and next to the shower scene my favorite one so far
In this post, I mentioned how Jaewon sees Jihyun in a dim light- notice how it shifted to something light over the past episodes? Jihyun already helped him overcome some shadows

DRAMA REC: So I feel like any real review of Thai drama Moonlight Chicken is hard without heavy spoilers because honestly I don't know how to talk about what makes me passionate about it without discussing all the character relevations that occur over the course of its 8 episodes. I'll try to be generic as much as I can.
The thing about why it's hard to discuss without spoilers is that the characters and their full baggage are revealed slowly episode by episode, because like in real life you often learn about new friends & love interests slowly as intimacy deepens...
But from what I can see online, it's very subjective for viewers - depends on the person if they find these themes and personal challenges compelling or not. This doesn't fit with the typical "BL asian drama" format.
My personal viewing stake: There's an otp that has TAKEN OVER MY BRAIN. I have been searching for this energy ever since finishing Lighter & Princess. Gotta confess that I couldn't care less about the second couple who are teenagers. Apparently MDL and a lot of tumblr only liked the teen couple (valid!), but I just skipped over them mostly because when my brain locks in on Real Adults with Adult Problems I often cease to connect to high school student storylines. But the age gap couple with a 39 year old character who is FEELING his age... Jim & Wen. I've watched all 8 episodes now and they are like cocaine to me.
Ep 1 setup: We're not in Bangkok! (gasp) Jim is almost-40 and runs a late night diner in the less upscale part of town. Wen, about 10 years younger, is drunk at his diner as he's trying to close for the night. They pick up on the unspoken signals, instant electric connection, and end up wandering back to Jim's place and having what looks like fantastic sex together (without exchanging names).
But then after that first night, in the remaining 7 ep of the show you get a slowburn build up from zero as Jim doesn't want a relationship - with anyone. This is truly, sincerely a 'it's not you, it's me" situation. He is mired in baggage and the angst is SO DELICIOUS to me. Angst and soft hand touches and late night conversation. There's YEARNING. SO MUCH YEARNING.
Tumblr media
And then my darling Wen! Who brings almost the same energy as the Lighter and Princess FL. @dangermousie I never thought I'd see this irrepressible determination and tender, good humored patience again! He is deeply sure that there is something special here with Jim and is unrelenting about trying to scale Jim's walls. I know that sounds like psychotic SML material lmao but it's all about the tone and context. It's very clear that Jim is allowing Wen in his life and doesn't, deep down, want Wen to give up on him. He's damaged and scared but I always felt he wants Wen to be right - that they are falling in love and can build something real together. He just can't make himself take that step. I mean, in their 2nd meeting he is EQUALLY INSANE to agree that it's v normal and hinged behavior to let his 1 night stand start randomly showing up to work shifts at his diner as 'temp staff' he can't afford to pay because... um. Basically to stalk him? idk I don't think it's stalking when u have a mutual agreement?? 🤔
Wen falling deeper into Jim and KNOWING the feeling is mutual no matter how many times he's (so gently!) pushed back... can be sooooo personal. 😭😭😭 The vibes of this "we're Not Together™" but it's inevitable, I'm just waiting for the timing to be right... reminiscent of the last 10 episodes of Lighter & Princess. This building intimacy and tenderness that stretches on until as a viewer you feel like... They ARE in love, they're together but just without the sex. They just have to stabilize their lives first before committing whole-heartedly. THE BITTERSWEET PINGING. (screams)
One thing I've observed is many people seem to struggle to connect with Jim's character. The closest thing we have to a protagonist (?) Maybe. Anyway, I suspect it might be a generational thing. I found the drama incredibly compelling, but I grew up queer in the 80s and 90s. I'm well into my 40s, a bit older than Jim, but I think the generational queer experience overlaps pretty well considering the sociopolitical differences btw us/thailand.
The screenwriter is an older out gay man, so I presume that's also a factor in how he did a pitch-perfect depiction of Jim's struggles to find home.
Wen has his own baggage that feels very real and raw. I loved his storyline because I could personally relate to it also from my queer relationship experience.
I've blabbered on here before about how I feel like there's something different about queer stories being told to other queers, not targeted to straight viewers primarily - I'm not saying it's better than the big brands and popular international media including lgbt rep. It's just different imo and I do think it's valuable. I want to see stories about the complexities of the experience & about the gay community that can't just be mapped to straight people. Where the story would not feel the same if you flipped the sexualities. That's what Midnight Chicken was to me: the characters of Jim and Wen and their personal development & slow love story together felt very queer and the age gap was a relevant part of this. And that called to me. I could recognize parts of myself in them and my personal experiences as a gay woman.
I was impressed by the writing. Strong acting. The directing of individual scenes is excellent BUT the 1 big flaw is the editing. Very amateur, super abrupt scene changes! Just jarring. But whatever, I've seen some terrible editing in cdramas too. Also note the storytelling tactic is to show a series of meaningful moments & interactions over like 6-8 months of time. Events progress in ways we don't always see and it's not always spelled out to the audience, everything that happened since we last saw them. That may or may not work for the viewer.
[Plus there's a very sweet & wholesome teen love story that also gets a happy ending, if you're into that. One of the teens is deaf and there's no "cure the disability" nonsense, don't worry. I was adult-focused but I did appreciate the complicated family relationship subplot with Jim trying to caretake his nephew and their relationship to the mostly-absent sister.]
ok so now into spoiler territory. Letting the relevations come out organically would be a much better viewing experience BUT...
SPOILERS ON JIM & WEN BACKSTORY
Jim's whole deal is he had a big love in his late 20s-early 30s that fucked him up good. He grew up being told gay love isn't real, leaves his rural farming town with his sister in their teens, disconnected from his family... But even his sister, who loves him, had the perspective that it's Just A Phase. Jim expects to Prove Them Wrong. Then his boyfriend cheats on him.... With a woman. Activate that generation's internalized homophobia and self-doubt. And then before he gets to truly confront his partner, his partner dies in an accident. So he never gets resolution.
And he's stuck under a mountain of debt, on the edge of poverty because he didn't get any of the guy's assets when he died of course. No rights under Thai law. Partner's family takes it all but the old car & the cat. All he has is the small chicken rice shop they had bought and ran together and it's killing him, he both hates and loves it. He's this amazing member of the local community but doesn't see himself and his own worth clearly.
Wen is working through the guilt of falling out of love from his 1st gay relationship that lasted 5 years of his 20s. Broken up but still living together. Trying to stay in each other's lives (I've seen this a lot, because in small gay communities you don't just cut ties with good people you care about). But living together is toxic for both of them, despite the real care that's there.
He also feels disconnected from a community at the start. He has work collegues, all straight friends, and his now-ex boyfriend. But you get the subtle sense that his local ties are all with the boyfriend Alan's family and mutual friends with Alan who don't all know about the breakup yet and he doesn't know how to interface with them anymore now that he and Alan aren't the same. He's the one who fell out of love, so he's "the bad guy" here and the straight friend he tries to talk to about trying to co-habititate with his ex and stay close friends doesn't really get it, because that's just way more typical behavior for older generation queers - it's notable that when the situation is fully explained to Jim, he doesn't seem to find it bizarre at all (as said, I've gone through that myself, and known friends in that situation; found that subplot to be very well done.) (I read that many viewers were disappointed this wasn't a standard infidelity situation where Wen is just regular cheating on Alan, but I have to say that I feel the opposite. The subplot and how it played out felt very relatable to me. I didn't need a cheating angst plotline in this drama that could be transplanted into a straight drama. I wanted more stories that represented my lived experience as an adult lesbian, and Wen's narrative gave me that.)
Wen keeps searching for a home even while living with Alan and having loved him in the past. Which to me was a sign that he'd moved to this smaller city, living in Alan's condo and in Alan's life with Alan's extended family... He started eating beef because Alan did and following along. He doesn't know where HE feels at home, what Wen needs to be comfortable and happy. When he more & more starts to believe he can make this home with Jim, he's determined to make it happen.

ok after the initial shock of 'tf did i just read?!🙃' I'm ready to offer my two cents on Big Dragon the novel
SPOILERS AHEAD (I'm on phone and don't know how to add a cut)
[it's a short novel and the extras (if any) are not available in english so it feels pretty rushed in the middle, the translation is bad so please bare with me]
it's a wattpad novel alright, the sex is constant and overwhelming, like it's a live character, it makes as many appearances as the two leads, literally every encounter they have post the video taping scene ends up in Dragon (Mungkorn) (hate?)fucking Big(Yai) senseless for hours on end (ok i know og novels of bls are badddd to begin with so credit to production team for wringing something anything palatable out of this hot mess)
these two have a violent history going back to freshman year, this part is pretty much glossed over in the series so far, (but they talk about it at the end of the novel so let's see) they have beaten the crap out of each other on several occasions before the fateful night
later they have some revelations through jealousy and half assef communication, and start (?) dating, but it's too anticlimactic as they're practically living together even before they realise they actually love eachother and Big announces this to his father* and officially moves in with Dragon, Dragon is dragging Big to mostly his own occasionally Bigs apt to fuck him raw every time Big does something out of anger or jealousy, they don't talk and resolve their issues they just fuck and move on to the next issue, rinse and repeat for a looong time
*yes the Big's father is a good father, a lovable goof and loves his son to no end, at least that parts pretty good i like this version of fathers
the bodyguards are pretty much bg characters and their relationship with their masters isn't as fleshed out as in the series but it's hinted so ok
the sister is mentioned once and there's no sign of a previous or new mother in Big's life,
they both have a string of ex female lovers and neither go exclusive for each other from the get go, they still try to date other women but Dragon doesn't get jealous until a man is involved with Big, Big on the other hand is jealous of anyone within a 2meter radius of Dragon
phi Da ain't his dominatrix, i was disappointed but again hat's off to the production team!
now the big engagement or should I say the non engagement, we get so lil of the lesbian couple! urgh! the girls simply run away to England with Dragon's help and Big finds out as they're about to leave, so it's a pretty short lived heartbreak that leads to their mutual confessions, it's a pretty much non existent plot
dragon's parents are never mentioned again
And now for the faen fatale the episode 11 material the big shabang the short lived breakup is caused by *drumrolls please* an mpreg scare!
yes you read that right and ohhh boyyy if they keep this in the show!! we're IN for a ride mates, like it's not funny, they never once laugh about it, it's real, real pain real emotions flying everywhichway, real heartbreak over mutual misunderstanding and lot of confusion,
like i said, A+ episode 11 material!! totally cursed 👌
Big in his streak of jealousy and being cut off from Dragon's lil dragon for too long drinks a "scientific potion" he got at a rave that it's inventor claimed can make men pregnant (worth mentioning - everytime Dragon ignores him for work for days on end, he does some stupid shit, he's a total bitchass princess about it, and ends up getting fucked raw, everytime)
now several months later, after the post engagement reconciliation, Big starts throwing up left and right and can't stand stinky food like fish, he thinks he's pregnant (enter the entire video of I'm pregnant you're not pregnant here coz that's what happened) again through miscommunication Big thinks despite Dragon wanting kids he just doesn't want one with him and wants him to abort it,
so Daddy's lil princess runs back home full dumped preggers mode and his father's just like 🤷 ok I'll take care of my grandchild that bf of yours can go fuck himself! while Dragon is actually concerned for his bf's life coz how the hell he gon deliver the babee?? (their himbo brains just *chef's kiss*) there's some mention of uterus but the translation is so bad i can't make head or tale of that part,
they finally talk and understand each other(?), a night of ceaseless pounding ensues, next day Dragon makes a doctor's appointment and the doc tells them flat no preggers here, they come back home and bawl their eyes out in eachother's arms, well Big more than Dragon, Dragon's just happy his bfs (ass) gon be safe, Big is disappointed he won't get to use the baby names he picked out (yes he did that)
and just like that they move back togather and continue to fuck till the end of times
(there's some talk about future kids and more dumbassery from Big about him not being able to get pregnant but that's to be expected after Dragon having fucked his brains out for over a year now)
for the finale Big takes Dragon back to the renovated club so they can "make some new good memories in the old place" where it all started,
and it ends as it started, with a big bang fest at the same suit (now renovated) two perfectly fucked up bookends to a perfectly fucked up story (affectionate)
*bows in you're welcome*

Thai BL Favorites List
Thank you @thatgirl4815 for tagging me! Sorry it took me too long. I guess I’ll be using this game to talk a bit about some of my favorite BL shows (Thai BL particularly), especially in the past 1,5 years. I might have not watched that many shows, honestly, so maybe I couldn’t really answer a question or two and obviously for the rest of the questions my answers would be very much biased and, ehm, extended (sorry in advance for being greedy, and that in no way this would be a brief list).
Favorite Thai BL: My top three (can’t choose one) are A Tale of Thousand Stars, The Eclipse, and My School President.
Favorite Pairing: Not trying to be diplomatic, but this is hard as I usually ended up loving any pairing of any media I was watching at a time. But to go with the ones that permanently own my soul (in chronological order of the said media release); PhupaTian of A Tale of Thousand Stars, KimChay of KinnPorsche, AkkAyan of The Eclipse, SoundWin of My School President, and TienLomfon of La Pluie.
Most Underrated Actor: I would go with Fluke Pusit. I really wanted to see him playing a main character (again). The Shipper was already too long ago, and I don’t think it was even classified as BL (I could be wrong about this, though).
Favorite Character: Another hard question *cry in my watched list*. Ok, I definitely can’t come up with only one, so here’s the array of characters that’s so dear to me for different reasons; Tian (A Tale of Thousand Stars), Akk Pipitphattana (The Eclipse), Akk Itsara (Enchante), Tinn (My School President), and Saengtien (La Pluie).
Favorite Side Character: Also, can’t have only one; Longtae (A Tale of Thousand Stars), Wasuwat (The Eclipse), Tiwson (My School President), and Arm (KinnPorsche).
Favorite Scene in a BL: Let these pictures speak for themselves. Basically almost all AkkAyan and SoundWin scenes live in my head rent free and all are my favorite. Yes, I'm very biased, I know. *cry* These are just a few on top of my list.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honorable mentions: PhupaTian and TienLomfon scenes under the stars (unfortunately I don't have any gifs for these, just a still set post for each).
Favorite Line in a BL: For me, nothing can top that “I love you. And I want you to love yourself too.” from Aye to Akk.
Tumblr media
Most Anticipated BL (& why): As much as I wanted to answer with Only Friends, I found myself leaning more and more towards Dangerous Romance and Last Twilight instead. I guess my main reason would be the casts (please I need more JimmySea and also Perth and Chimon). And personally, I think I deal emotionally better watching media with single pair centered story than one with multiple/ensemble pairs.
Healthiest Relationship in a BL: At this point, it’s Tinn and Gun in My School President. If we’re talking solely about the green flags, there might be many others beside these two. But when it comes to the relationship, I don’t remember watching any other more impressive than them.
Most Toxic Relationship in a BL: I can’t really come up with something for this one. When it comes to toxic relationship, I usually avoided watching anything with known one in it at all or I ended up watching them in fast-forward/skipping mode so I don't think it's my place to label them as toxic as I might lose some context on the way.
Guilty Pleasure Series: Currently I don’t have any, I guess. But it used to be TharnType (I resonated a lot with Type and his anger issue) and/or Together with Me (I just can’t say no to MaxTul in any kind of media, I think).
I’m back to my ‘too shy to tag’ mode again. So, if anyone seeing this and would like to participate (this is fun!), please consider yourself tagged 🤍
Ps: adding an extra of my favorite scene.
Tumblr media
(*): all gifs used are mine, previously posted in my *gifs posts.

A cake freak meets a real freak and together they do freaky things. Like seriously who would have thought that the seemingly perfect couple of "Unforgotten Night" could have so many ups and downs?
Tumblr media
May I just say that this series had so much potential, except it turned out to be something chaotic and borderline annoying. The actors did a great job at expressing their characters. Especially kudos to Frank because time and again I legit wanted to dunk his face in the cake.
Tumblr media
There are so many parts that don't make any sense. But overall, the execution is amazingly done by the actors so you won't be dissatisfied with their performance and can give it a go. For example, when Day wakes up with Amnesia, his violent behaviour is beautifully portrayed by Long Lee. Also, special mention to Nan-Mac couple who stole the spotlight despite having the least amount of screentime.

My review of Ancient Detective / 侠探简不知
Tumblr media
Jian Buzhi is a detective who embarks on a journey through the martial arts world to uncover the truth about his father’s death. He meets Zhao Wohuan, a brave but slightly airheaded bladesman, and Zhan Shiqi, a trained assassin who hides a pure heart beneath her cold exterior. They become a found family, later joined by others like the shapeshifter Ye Xiao Xiao and the clever doctress Gong Que.
These days, it’s hard for a wuxia fan like me to find a new drama that does the wuxia genre right. Not many are made anymore, and the few that do get made have mostly been disappointments. We’ve been plagued with bad fight scenes, unsuitable acting, messy writing, and stories that that are labelled “wuxia” but end up mostly being fantasy or political intrigue or idol romances.
But Ancient Detective has been the exception. It’s genuinely such an underrated gem! It has all the things you look for in a classic wuxia drama, while also keeping it modern with faster pacing and more realistic visual effects.
The action scenes were done really well. Every character has their own style of fighting and every fight scene tells a story. The horse-riding scenes look fantastic too.
It has all the tropes I love in wuxia dramas: the hero’s journey, brotherhood, doomed love, poisons and antidotes, nefarious sects, protagonists living in the aftermath of the previous generation’s mistakes, eccentric heroes, cool villains, mysterious in-betweeners, and more!
The mystery element is also well-integrated into the story. As a detective, Jian Buzhi stumbles across a series of mysteries. Each mystery arises specifically in the context of the martial arts world and ties directly into Jian Buzhi’s journey. If I had to criticize one thing about this drama, I would say that I found the second mystery subplot (when they arrive on the island) to be less interesting than the rest of the story.
The cast was full of actors that I had never heard of before, but they truly did an excellent job. Each character is bold and memorable, with their own eccentricities and demeanors. They bring well-timed humour in light moments and convincing emotion in dark moments.
I want to take a moment to mention that Wang Ruoshan (who played Zhan Shiqi, the female lead) was really phenomenal in this drama. She has a kind of epic demeanor that you rarely see in actresses her age. She brought out both the cold poise of a trained assassin and the vulnerability of an exploited young woman.
Basically, if you’re a fan of the wuxia genre, I think this is a must-watch. They just don’t make dramas like this anymore, so I was thrilled to discover Ancient Detective. If you’re new to wuxia and curious, I also think this is a great starting point because it’s by far the best recent take on a genre that many of us grew up loving.

Love and mafia make the best deal (○` 3′○)
LONG TIME NO SEE (Action/Romance) 2017 – 5 episodes
Korean BL
Rating: 10/10
Tumblr media
Fans of mafia stories will love this drama that straddles the line between drama and comedy. Combining these two genres in a very surprising way, it offers a condensed romance and action in a very short time of 5 episodes. Every minute is well thought out and nothing is left to chance, making this series a nugget not to be missed!
Tumblr media
Tak Woo Suk and Yeon Seung Ho meet a little by chance, at the bend of a self-published novel on a site of which one is the author and the other the regular reader. Immediately attracted to each other, they start dating very quickly, in the cutest way possible. These moments spent with Seung Ho allow Woo Suk to forget his life in the mafia and the violent activities that he condemns. But not everything goes according to plan, and he realizes to his dismay that the person he trusted may not be as innocent as he seemed.
Tumblr media
Although the story is very dramatic on the surface, the light-hearted relationship and the awkward but sincere interactions of the two lovers bring a nice touch of cheerfulness to this sad background. While the drama remains present, it never really takes over the whole scene. You will appreciate this couple who will make you laugh and smile, as much as the numerous and wonderfully well-done action scenes. Thrills and laughter are guaranteed, that's what you have to remember about this original series with an unconventional story. The direction chosen for the unfolding of this drama is quite interesting, and the excellent acting, as well as the excellent direction, make this series worth watching!
Tumblr media
A good character development, no character is left aside and this is something you greatly appreciate in the plot twist. To take your mind off your day, Long Time No See is the perfect drama to spice up your day!

Updated with proper photo! Thanks @superama123 BL Fight Club! If I can’t ship em, let ‘em fight!
Tumblr media
It has been a while, but let’s let our clueless boyfriends duke it out!
Tine (2gether) vs Nhai ( Ai Long Nhai)
Tine: 18-19 college student, cheerleader and music club member
Tumblr media
Nhai: 18-19 college student habitual duck loser and professional at getting lost
Tumblr media
Awwww. Look at our sweet clueless ass boys. Our bisexual boyfriends haven’t found the one yet, but when they do, boy howdy do things change!
I’m going to keep it 1000, I hate both of them. Respectfully. Their dodo choices make me cringe every episode, so I am not nearly invested in this one as my usual ones.
That being said Nhai can’t fight, he is such a baby duck.
Winner: Tine

Play of the Week! A new play, performed live, every week, in front of a live studio audience. How wrong could it go?
Okay, I gotta talk about The Goes Wrong Show.
Tumblr media
The Goes Wrong Show is something I'm surprised Tumblr hasn't been more up in arms about. This website is, after all, all about committing to the bit. A popular text post by @linecoveredinjellyfish proposed the school of media criticism called "Bitism". And buddy, lemme tell you, The Goes Wrong Show is the patron saint of Bitism. They commit to the bit harder than an alcoholic horse who recently found protestant Jesus.
And it is the funniest goddamn thing I have ever seen.
Tumblr media
As is so often the case, writing a review of a very good comedy is hard - it's not easy to talk about it without taking some of the oomph out of the jokes. And, make no mistake, The Goes Wrong Show is an incredibly good comedy. I'll try my best anyways, because I cannot stop recommending it, but if you don't need more convincing, just go watch an episode. It's incredible.
Tumblr media
Our framing device is a series of weekly plays put on by an unbelievably incompetent and eclectic drama society, where anything can and probably will fuck up horribly. Terrible acting? A horrific script? Broken props? A set mistakenly built at a 90-degree angle? You name it, they found a way to fuck it up.
But. And this is the key thing. They commit. The script calls for a scene involving pouring tea in a set that's oriented completely wrong? Commit to the bit.
Tumblr media
The script demands a period piece family dinner, but something is very wrong with the ceiling fan?
Commit. To. The. Bit.
Tumblr media
Major actor in the piece is completely incompetent?
Commit.
Tumblr media
To.
Tumblr media
The.
Tumblr media
Bit.
Tumblr media
It's an Airplane!-esque barrage of constant absurd gags, and I don't say that lightly. Each member of the cast is distinctly deranged in their own unique ways, the stage management is woefully incompetent, and the special effects are really just a special kind of fucked.
Really, the only complaint I can make of this show is that there isn't more of it, and frankly that's a good problem to have! If you're the kind of person who's not too busy to read a long Tumblr fandom post, but is too busy to binge a series you can get through in an evening, just give s1e3, "A Trial To Watch", a look - in my humble opinion, it is incredibly hard to top.

A long overdue update:
Hi everyone. Long time no see. I literally have not opened Tumblr since the last time I posted here. Hope everyone is doing ok. Figured I owed y’all an apology and explanation for kinda just vanishing.
First, I did in fact get a car! It’s a 2015 Nissan Versa Note. I don’t particularly like it but a friend gave me a deal on it that I couldn’t turn down. Once my life stabilizes I’m probably going to sell it and buy an old truck, maybe a 70s Ford. I’d love a little sports car or a land yacht but rear wheel drive is a bit impractical for brutal New England winters, and the Jeep really put me in Old American Truck Mode. But yes I have a car now!
Second, unfortunately this is an official notice of hiatus. When I last posted saying I was taking some time off it was because I had just had an incredibly stressful move and did not have the energy to keep this blog up. I figured I’d take some time to get settled in, relax, and then pick this back up after a week or two, but the last month has been really rough - the short version is one of the people I was living with turned out to be a pretty horrendous human being who managed to get everybody living in the house essentially kicked out via sheer drama. Within a month and a half. It’s a long story but tl:dr if you quite literally slander a property manager with heavy unfounded accusations of horrible crimes, they’ll probably bail from the whole situation. And since they’re gone the landlord has to hand ownership of everything over to a company that’s forcing everyone still here to vacate. I’m now fighting to not have to live in aforementioned Nissan Versa through the aforementioned brutal New England winter. On top of that, I’m a retail manager so we’re going into our busiest most stressful season, so that’s been an extra level of exhaustion.
So what does that mean for this blog? Well, as I said, I’m officially going on indefinite hiatus, as are the projects I was working on in relation, including the reference website. I’m really sorry, I’m just way too stressed and dealing with way too much. If I could, I would just hand off administrative power to someone else, but this is a sideblog so I can’t hand off login credentials without also giving access to my main/personal account. It’s my biggest regret of this account, but when I started it I never expected it to blow up the way it did back in September - I had no reason to expect to need it to be its own entirely separate blog. I love what I was doing here and I thought that it might even be a nice distraction from everything going on, but the upkeep required with this blog is just more than I can deal with right now. I hope that things settle down soon and that I can genuinely come back here and enjoy what I was doing, but I just need literally anything to level out in my real life and to not be in 100% survival mode, because at the moment I literally do not have the energy to pour into this.
Anyway. Sorry for the long post, I’m not good at not being overly verbose. I’m really sorry for kind of abandoning this project, and I hope I can get back to it relatively soon, it just might be a while.
In the mean time, I hope those of y’all who I turned onto cars as a potential hobby find some other good outlets! I highly recommend Donut Media’s series “Up to Speed” on YouTube, as well as the channels Regular Car Reviews, Doug DeMuro, Garbage Time, and Aging Wheels. All great YouTube channels that are both informative and very approachable and fun.
Godspeed and much love. Hope to see y’all soon

Hi Quinton!! I have been a HUGE fan of your stuff since a friend sent me the Tobuscus Fallen Titans (I used to watch him back in high school and was like "huh, wonder what happened to him after those allegations") and I gotta say, it is REALLY FUNNY every time my fiancé and I watch the iCarly videos again, because when you cover Gibby's stunt double breaking his ribs, you cut to a clip of The Official Podcast. I used to play D&D with one of the main dudes from the podcast, so when he talks during that clip I do a goddamn double take literally every time.
Anyways, I remember an original Patreon stretch goal being a Fallen Titans on Homestuck! I was really big into Homestuck in my early 20s, and was wondering if that's still on the table at some point? If not that's fine, I understand plans change! I just love Fallen Titans lol, the Fred episode and the Neil Cicierega unFallen Titans are some of my favorite videos of yours!
That's a real funny story!
So here's the rundown on the Homestuck video. When I first started making long videos, they were actually inspired by the relationship I had with other YouTubers at the time. I used to watch, like, H3H3 and Filthy Frank, etc; and I'd always see people obsessed with the versions of creators from the past. Like, "Oh 2015 H3 was the best" and "Oh 2012 Frank was peak." So I had this idea that it would be crazy if H3 posted, like, a video he spent a decade on and you got a new video with 2015 H3 10 years on. (I don't watch H3 anymore ironically)
So the original idea for the "long video" format was that it would be cool if, throughout a long, analysis/review/recap video, you kept noticing someone get older. Maybe my months, maybe by years. That's why I always like to get a haircut when I start one of these videos. If you scrub through and you see my hair get longer and messier as it goes on I think that adds something magical you can't fake.
So... My pitch to the Homestuck video was that it would be funny to work on it just once per year. To record one segment, say "That's it for 12 months", and then come back around to it. And when I was making the iCarly and Victorious videos I actually recorded a few minutes of the video! I think it was two segments in total. But then I had a bunch of personal stuff happen and my work drive has been much lower, so any "back burner" video hasn't gotten much attention since then.
Now that the iCarly mini-series is done with, I want to focus on some short one-off videos I can make before April. But once that's done with, I would REALLY love to start work on a few more long-term projects which will take months or years to finish. I think returning to work on the Homestuck video, to at least get the first 20-30 minutes done, would be a great idea this summer.
Now, if you want to know my pitch for that video, here it is. The video is not a recap of the creative history of the franchise. I do not get into drama, community hell, lawsuits, or other YouTubers. My idea is this: you always hear about Homestuck as an outsider but you never hear about the actual content. Most franchises on Earth I know something about, even and especially if I've never been interested in them. I can tell you a bunch of facts about wrestling and MLP and the Fast and the Furious simply through cultural osmosis and having friends who are into those things.
I can't tell you the plot of Homestuck, who the characters are, what the themes are, nothing. I've known a lot of people who were into Homestuck but nothing about the series!
So I thought it would thus be funny to make a video about a bunch of people who know nothing about the series starting from the beginning and giving their reactions, even if it's been years since it all started. I call this part of the video the "Homestuck Book Club." So the next step is me picking out the members (who all have to have no history with it) and making sort of a podcast setup. We'd then read and record every six months or so, IDK.
This is why the video has been stuck in production hell! Everyone who wants to work on it and messages me about it already knows the franchise. I don't want spoilers, I don't want people writing for the video who get it already. I want to capture the "what the fuck is this" energy of three dudes just getting in the middle of it.
Also, I think that I really like the theme of the video capturing our lives as they go by, capturing us aging and changing. If you came back from the future and told me this video comes out in five years, I'd say great. If you told me it comes out in ten years, I'd say awesome. Until then, the latest edit will always be on Patreon, even if you have to dig a little.

My Top 12 Favorite Anime of 2023 (and more)!
This was a great year for anime, so here's a long list of my top 12 (including some bonus great anime). If you get tired of clicking the review links, check out my anime overview collection for all of them here.  You can also check out my list of favorite manga here!
Some of these are ongoing, so consider those only a review of the first cour-- no official endorsement on the rest because it hasn't aired yet!
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury (Season 2)
Tumblr media
When I listed G-Witch in last year's top anime list, I prayed the show wouldn't betray me. Fortunately, it didn't! Though the final half of the show was a bit rushed, it remained must-see, compelling sci-fi full of exciting twists and turns. And I adore the well developed romance between the robot-piloting protagonist and precious girl, Suletta, and her fierce fiancé, Miorine.  Whether you’re here for starcrossed queer lovers, robots wrecking each other, tense battles between opposing political factions, or morally-horrifying moms on a revenge spree, you’re in for a treat.
See my full review here.
Yuri is my Job!
Tumblr media
Hime is roped into working at a cafe where the waitresses playact as students of the fictional all girl’s school from a beloved novel series. However, Hime finds her co-worker, Mitsuki, has an inexplicable grudge against her. Thus begins a tangled web of romance and wounded feelings among the girls in the cafe! Yuri is My Job seems like a fun comedy boasting a cast full of quirky lesbians, but then reveals itself to be a complicated and fascinating examination of performance- as it intersects with queerness, girlhood,  and the desire to be “likeable” and “cute". It's top-tier lesbian drama full of fraught relationships and it's absolutely worth a watch.

The Apothecary Diaries (still ongoing, review is for the first cour)
Tumblr media
Though it's still going, I have to sing the praises of this dazzling anime about a saavy apothecary who uses her medical expertise to solve the many murders and betrayals in the Emperor's palace. MaoMao is a fantastic lead, a poison-obsessed gremlin who's whip-smart, deadpan, and fun to follow. The Apothecary Diaries has intrigue, well-developed characters, and an impeccable atmosphere. It tells a great range of stories, from romantic triumph, to bittersweet tales of recovering from grief, to pure tragedies. I'm totally hooked.

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady
Tumblr media
When Euphie is dumped by her fiance at a ball, the oddball princess Anis rescues her.  Euphie becomes Anis' assistant in her quest to develop magical tools. The girls also start to develop feelings for each other, while discovering a conspiracy among the nobility. I'm always desperately in need of cool lesbians having action-packed fantasy adventures, and Magirevo delivers. The characters grow in entertaining ways, we get to see them fight dragons in killer action scenes, and the romantic development is completely satisfying. It's a simple story at its core, but the lovable characters, joyous queerness and jubilant execution make it a great watch.

Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story (Season 2)
Tumblr media
In the second season of the anime about girls homoerotically golfing while dealing with the mafia and ludicrous family drama, Birdie Wing remains a bombastically absurd sports anime that is fun all the way through. Please come watch these girls get ridiculous sports  injuries, scream their super golf attacks, experience extremely extra plot twists--and be super gay with each other, of course. The finale didn't go quite as hard as I wanted (and the romance is more subtexual than I wanted), but you need to allow yourself to experience the madness of Birdie Wing.

Skip and Loafer
Tumblr media
An endearingly dorky, earnest, and driven girl moves from her small town to Tokyo. While she struggles to adjust, she befriends a nice popular boy who's got some baggage. Skip and Loafer is a show that’s like a warm hug. It's sweet, entertaining and funny. It handles adolescent struggles with tender nuance. There's a emphasis on kindness, connection, and looking past stereotypes and misconceptions. It also includes a trans character who's treated with respect (and is a great character in general!) Let this show touch your heart.

Undead Murder Farce
An immortal woman has had most of her body stolen by a mysterious man. Reduced to a head carried around by her maid, she teams up with a half-demon man to track the thief down while solving supernatural mysteries all across Victorian England.
This a fun, campy mystery series starring three asshole weirdo protagonists,  it’s bursting with supernatural creatures and literary references. We've got Sherlock Holmes, The Phantom of the Opera, Carmilla and more...along with a vampire murders and werewolf drama galore. UDM is a wonderful romp with stylish, slick direction... and it’s unexpectedly really gay.  I’m aching to see more of these scrappy misfits and their adventures.

Migi & Dali
Tumblr media
A story of twins who are pretending to be one kid in order to fool their foster parents and find out who killed their mother. It starts out as an utterly absurd comedy becomes a impressive and genuinely tense murder mystery that is incredibly moving at times, all while keeping up it’s signature brand of goofiness. There’s genuine commentary on abuse, the damage you can do to children by forcing perfection on them, the struggle of being a foster kid, grief and recovery and more. There's also some great character development. It's a weird one, but it's absolutely worth sticking with.

Pluto
Tumblr media
Somebody is killing the most advanced robots in the  world and murdering humans alongside them. A robot detective is trying to track this killer down, but he might be compromised as well. Pluto is a tense, tense, tightly plotted robot murder mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Through robots, it explores the idea of being a tool in a corrupt system, and tackles subjects like war, imperialism, and the nature of hatred. It's a masterful psychological thriller with stunning animation and a rich story.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off
Tumblr media
This anime approaches the story of Scott Pilgrim and Ramona's seven evil exes from a brands new angle, and the results are great. We get a exploration of relationships and regrets, the messiness of communication and connection, the trials of becoming an adult, all with the signature goofy video game antics. Characters neglected in previous iterations finally get their due, new facets of the story are explored, queer relationships are delved into more, girls kiss...and it's all accompanied by phenomenal animation and a killer soundtrack.

Soaring Sky! Precure
Tumblr media
Sora lives in a world called Skyland and wants to be a great hero. When rescuing the kidnapped baby princess, she falls through a portal to earth. There she meets her fellow magical warriors, and as Precure they protect the princess from the villains!
This vibrant, warm-hearted adventure got me back on the Precure train! This series boasts a lot exciting firsts for the franchise--the first official male cure, the first main cure that's eighteen years old- but above all, it has a lively team of characters with who have an entertaining dynamic and enjoyable individual journeys. It's often very funny, the baby has a surprisingly good character arc, and it's bursting with magical girl (and boy) goodness! It's also not afraid to give you an emotional gutpunch when you've been lured into a false sense of security by all the fun times. If you're new to Precure, this is a great jumping on point, and if you've watched it before, this is a series you won't want to miss.
I'm in Love with the Villainess
Tumblr media
Rae is reincarnated as the heroine of her favorite dating sim. But she has no interest in romancing any of the boys- she’s head over heels for Claire Francois, the snooty villainess.
Villainess may not be as polished--storywise or animation-wise-- as these other entries. It's a messy series, it has plenty of problems...but it's also very fun, and it touched my queer little heart like no other. Queer people get to indulge in our imperfect faves too, and the silly shenanigans, blatant lesbian wish fulfillment, honest advocacy for queer people, and the joy and earnestness of the series works for me!

Some Other Great Anime:
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (still ongoing, review is for the first cour)
Tumblr media
Frieren is a long-lived elf who was once part of an adventuring party that saved the world from the Demon Lord. But now her friends are passing away and the world is moving on. She decides to retrace her old party's journey so she can understand what she's feeling.
Frieren is both an interesting examination of what happens after the hero saves the world, as well as a meditation on mortality, grief,  and the endless march of time. It takes you on a quiet, beautiful and sometimes touching journey though a pastoral fantasy world. There's some breath-taking animation and excellent atmosphere to enjoy.

Spy x Family (Season 3)
Spy x Family is pretty much staying the course from when we last checked in,  though this season gives a lot more attention to Yor, and I love the cruise ship arc and all the ridiculous fights she gets into a lot! That arc contains some of my favorite gags of the series too (like Loid’s  attempts to be a cool dad). Otherwise, Spyfam has settled into a series that intends to be around for the long haul, so don’t expect too much forward plot momentum. And Yuri (the man, not the genre) unfortunately still exists. Overall it was good season and remains a fun  adaptation. Yor, please step on me.

Chapter Two: See You Later
August 1990
The past month had been a whirlwind.
Your movie was released in July. You didn’t like looking at reviews and what critics had to say because, well, they were usually very critical.
Margie, though, had no problem shoving them in your face.
“This says your performance was magnificent!” She exclaimed, forcing  the paper at you as you tried your best to drink your morning coffee the same day the reviews started rolling in.
You didn’t know if managers were usually as hands on as Margie, but whatever she did behind the scenes worked apparently.
The rise to even more fame came with more eyes on you. You had been popular with your last role and had gained quite the fan base. But this one seemed to propel you even more into the public eye.
You finally had to cave in and hire a personal assistant named Miles. He was nice and all. But not being able to get your own groceries really busted your spirit sometimes.
A week or so after this most recent  movie was released, you slipped on your usual disguise of sneakers, a hoodie, and sunglasses to run to your local supermarket. The outfit was fail proof and you had never been recognized before. Each time you did this, you felt like a super spy on a secret mission.
The vultures must have been looking for you. Or maybe the stars were aligned weird that day.  Or maybe you forgot to tip someone and it threw off your karma. Either way, they found you.
You had just put a bag of apples into your cart, and were headed to pick up the last item on your list when you felt the air shift. Goosebumps broke out on the back of your neck.
You didn’t realize, at first, what that feeling meant. Brushing it off, you finished your shopping and strolled back home without a second thought.
They had followed you throughout the store, snapping pictures without you even realizing it. They even got some interesting shots of sniffing some body wash and inspecting a package of strawberries to make sure they weren’t mushy at the bottom.
You had felt so violated when you saw the photos posted in a gossip magazine that labeled you as someone that was ‘picky’ based off of your shopping habits. How the hell was making sure what you paid for was what you wanted considered picky? It was the first harsh thing you had really seen about yourself in a magazine and you had the sneaking suspicion that it was just the beginning.
You tried to remind yourself that maybe things would go back to semi normal once the hype around the movie died down some. When you mentioned that to Margie she just scoffed at you and asked, “Why the hell would you want that?”
You really hadn’t meant to get famous. Unlike Eddie, who had wanted this for as long as he could remember.
You just wanted to pay the bills.
Speaking of Eddie, he was leaving for his six long month tour today.
And you were headed to go see him before he left.
There used to be a time when you and Eddie were never separated. It was to the point that when he got his penthouse, he tried to get you to move in with him. He even had a room set up for you. You hadn’t realized he intended for you to live with him until he started to ask you about paint colors for your room.
That was when he had just started to get into the rockstar lifestyle. And you didn’t want to be around when he brought girls home. So, after months of couch surfing together and sleeping in the back of the van, you went your separate ways.
Even though you lived apart, you and Eddie still at least spoke almost every day. You knew he would do his best to call you when he was on tour but you were also realistic about it. He would get busy. You would get busy. Life would happen.
The last tour he did was only three months long. They weren’t as popular then so it wasn’t so hard to keep in touch.
Now Corroded Coffin and Eddie Munson were household names.
Take that Hawkins, Indiana and anyone else who ever doubted him.
You remember the day four years ago that Eddie asked you to leave with him to come to LA. He had been blabbering about leaving for months, especially after what had happened to him at prom. But you never thought he was serious.
You had been working at the local gas station then for under minimum wage, trying to keep up with the bills for the trailer. You didn’t feel right about leaving your grandma so you didn’t go to college like you had originally planned.
She ended up dying a month after you left Hawkins. It still felt like it was your fault even though everyone told you repeatedly that it wasn’t.
Eddie had stopped by the gas station and asked you to come over to the trailer that night after you got off work. You argued with him originally, since your feet hurt and you wanted to shower. But he was persistent. You noticed that gleam in his eye that usually meant he was concocting something in his head so it made you curious and kind of scared.
When you opened his trailer door, without knocking of course, you were greeted by Eddie standing in the living room with both hands behind his back.
“What are you doing?” You asked, suspicious that this was a prank of his. The way he was standing made you wonder if he was holding some type of feral animal behind him that he was going to try to talk you into co-parenting.
“I have a very serious question to ask you, sweetheart,” he said in an even tone.
If it was some sort of animal then he would have already shoved it in your face by now.
“Yes?” You asked breathlessly, taking a step towards him. You didn’t know why but your heart had started to flutter and it was harder to breathe. Working on your feet all day must have really worn you out.
“I know you’re probably going to think this is crazy. You probably think I’m crazy,” he rambled, running a hand through his hair.
You nodded, urging him to continue.
“But will you please come to LA with me while I try to get famous?” He blurted out.
“What?” You asked, taken aback by his question.
“I really don’t want to be alone and I think Corroded Coffin really has a chance. We just need to put ourselves out there. And I need you to keep me in line. If I go out there on my own then I know I’ll mess this up somehow. Plus, I’ll be so lonely and I’ll just want to come home if you stay in this shit-”
“Eddie, stop. I can’t go out there with you. And you won't be lonely if the whole band is going with you,” you tried to reason with him.
“Fine. Desperate times call for desperate measures,” he said coolly before he dropped on his knees in front of you and wrapped both his arms around your legs, anchoring you in place.
“You want me to beg? Because I’ll beg,” he yelled while you tried to fight him off.
“Eddie, stop! You’re acting like a child,” you scolded through clenched teeth while you tried to kick him. You couldn’t move your legs enough though to get a good hit. He was holding on too tight.
“Stop kicking me and just listen!” He screamed. His long arms caging your legs in even tighter.
“I’m not listening because it’s dumb. You want me to quit my job and drive across the country with you? What about my grandma?” You asked through gritted teeth.
Eddie sighed and stood up off the ground. He grabbed both of your hands, looking into your eyes. Anyone else would think that this is the look of a lover, but no, it’s just the way Eddie looks at you. Nothing more.
“Wayne can check on your grandma. You act like she’s sick or something. That woman moves around better than I do. Last week she chased the neighbor's kid around the park with a broom for throwing rocks. Give it a year. If I don’t make it big in a year then I promise I will bring you back to Hawkins. I can’t do this without you.”
He always knew just what to say to you. What he said about your grandma was true. She wasn’t in poor health but how were you supposed to just leave the woman who had taken care of you since you were little? She was the only parent you ever had.
“I see those wheels turning in your head,” Eddie commented with a smirk.
“Just a year?” You asked with a raised brow.
Eddie took the question as a yes. His cheers could probably be heard all across the trailer park. He jumped up and down so hard that the floor shook. The breath wooshed out of your lungs as he grabbed you and hugged you tightly.
“This is going to be so much fucking fun!”
The car pulling into the meeting spot drew your attention away from your memories. Those times felt like a completely different life. Back when you and Eddie were just two trailer park kids with nothing but big dreams ahead of them.
The big sleek tour bus loomed over you as you climbed out the backseat. You paused to let the paid driver know that you’ll be back in just a bit.
All of the guys were standing outside the bus, bags by their feet as they goofed off with each other, looking really excited.
Eddie grinned and ran towards you with open arms when he saw you.
“We’re going on tour, baby!!” He yelled.
You laughed as he nearly knocked you off your feet when he plowed into you.
“This isn’t your first tour, Eddie,” you reminded him.
“I know but it’s the biggest. I mean look at this bus. We definitely didn’t have this last time.”
“Lots of room for activities,”  Gareth said as he approached, giving you a quick hug.
You rolled your eyes at him.
“I don’t want to hear about your activities,” you said as you slapped his arm.
Jeff and Grant made their way over too, both giving you hugs.
“I’m going to be so bored without all of you here,” you complained to Jeff.
“Yeah, right. You’re a big star now too. You’ll have plenty to do around here,” Jeff teased as he nudged your shoulder.
“It’s not the same though. I-”
“Come with me,” Eddie blurted out, cutting you off mid sentence.
“What?” You asked, looking around the group confused on who he was talking to.
“Come with us on tour,” he explained. “It’ll be fun. Like when we drove out to California and we both had to sleep in the back of the van. But bigger.”
You thought about saying yes. You didn’t have any roles lined up right now. Your agents and Margie had been keeping their eyes out for some good fits but who knew what that would happen. Show business could be funny sometimes. You were sure there would be a phone for you to access while on the road. And if something came up, you could always fly back to LA to audition or do whatever Margie needed you to do.
It would be hard but it would be worth it.
You had the image in your head, you and Eddie on the road again. Bickering and goofing off the way only you two could. You could watch him play live and do the thing he loved to do. You wouldn’t just have to see your best friend’s face in magazines or on those celebrity gossip shows.
The word ‘yes’ was on the tip of your tongue, ready to be released into the world.
“Do you really want a chick on the bus when we bring back groupies, man?” Gareth asked.
Your heart shattered. You think if you looked you could see the pieces of it on the parking lot pavement; scattered around your feet.
Eddie looked at Gareth like he was going to kill him. There was an awkward pause where no one said anything. Like Gareth had just released some big secret you weren’t aware of.
“I can’t anyways. Margie would kill me if I’m not available for an interview or audition,” you offered, hoping to cool off some of the white hot tension radiating from Eddie.
Jeff and Grant shared a look before Jeff gave you a pitying look and a tight smile. You wanted to ask him what that look was for. You were fine. Everything was fine.
Eddie was going to argue. You knew he would.
“Let’s go, guys!” Corroded Coffin’s manager, Don, yelled from the foot of the tour bus. He waved his arms drastically to try to get them moving.
“Have fun. Be careful” You gave them all a smile before you started to back away.
Gareth looked a little guilty, or maybe scared of what Eddie was going to say to him once they were in a confined space together. They all walked away, climbing into the bus. Except for Eddie who still stood in front of you.
You waited for him to deny what Gareth had said about the groupies and ask you to come with him again. Maybe he would get down on his knees and beg again like he did five years ago. All he had to do was say all those kind words to you and you would be putty in his hands.
But he didn’t. He simply pulled you in for a one armed hug.
“Bye, Eds. I’ll see you later.”
“Bye, Sweetheart.”
Tumblr media
October 1990
“Hey! It’s Eddie,” his voice came loudly through the phone.
It has been two months since you last spoke to Eddie. He hadn’t called you at all like he promised except for once. And that call ended three seconds after he said hello. He didn’t try to call back after that.
“Hey,” you said, leaning against your living room wall.
“I’m sorry I haven’t been in touch. Things have just been really busy here. I got you some souvenirs though,” Eddie said. You could hear it in the background, the sound of loud voices and shuffling. They were getting ready to party.
Eddie’s voice held that rasp that seemed to happen after he had just played a show. You wanted to reach through the phone and grab him. It had been so isolating here on your own. You barely left your place unless it was for work and the only people you spoke to on a daily basis were Margie and Miles. They weren’t your friends though, it was only business.
“It’s okay. I’ve been busy too.” Not a lie. You had two interviews and an audition since Eddie had been gone. Still, it would have been nice to hear something from him. Even a voicemail would be nice.
“I bet,” He cleared his throat. “Listen, I’ve been thinking…a lot. I know right now over the phone isn’t  the best but if I let myself think about it I’ll go crazy. When I get back do you wanna-”
“Who are you talking to, Eddie? Thought you didn’t have anyone waiting for you at home,” You heard a woman's voice purr on the other end.
“I don’t,” he replied to them. You pressed the phone harder to your ear to eavesdrop on their conversation. “Just talking to a friend.”
Your stomach twisted and you didn’t know why. It wasn’t news that you and Eddie were just friends. You had never wanted to be anything more. So why did hearing him say this hurt so bad?
It’s not like Gareth hadn’t let you know exactly what Eddie would be up to during his time away.
You didn’t blame him for it. He was young and on top of the world. He should enjoy the freedom.
You could enjoy your freedom too. Live like the rest of the celebrities live. It wasn’t like there weren’t men interested in you. They just never lived up to the high standard in your head.
Maybe it was time to lower that standard a bit and just have fun.
You didn’t wait to hear what else the stranger had to say to him now that she knew you were no one important to him. In your head you imagined she was beautiful. The perfect woman for Eddie to spend time with. Unlike you, who was wearing an old Hawkins High t-shirt and sweatpants.
Margie had repeatedly told you how wanted you were, how desired. She said the only thing holding you back now was your self consciousness. You wondered if you let that go and fully leaned into the celebrity lifestyle that you  had been trying to avoid, would life be more fun? Would you feel better when you let it all go?
You hung the phone up, not waiting to say goodbye. You expected Eddie to call back and apologize for the interruption. But time ticked on and before you knew it an hour had gone by, and the phone never rang again.

Frost. The first of the year.
It covered the leaves that littered the parking lot outside your apartment in swirling fractals and crunched beneath your boots.
Barely out of October and you could already feel winter knocking at your door.
The sky was awash in a pale blue-grey as the sun came up behind the overcast clouds. The rain from the weekend brought down most of the leaves, though some of the more reluctant ones still clung to the trees in patches of yellow and orange.
You unlocked the door to your red Chevy Nova and dropped your leather satchel on the passenger’s seat.
The fog that had settled in your mind lifted just enough to get your papers graded. Just enough to get most of the dishes washed. The laundry could wait.
You turned the key in the ignition and — nothing. Well, it wasn’t nothing, there was a clicking that got louder the harder you forced the key forward.
“Come on.”
Had you left your lights on by accident? It wouldn’t be the first time. The lights were turning on though. You threw your weight into the brakes as you turned the key harder. Over and over it whined and whirred and clicked until finally the engine awoke with a rumble.
You blamed the cold.
Happy Monday.
The thing about the fog is that once it settled it was hard to lift completely. You would enter the teacher’s lounge in a daze. You would go through the motions of pouring yourself your second cup of coffee, of finding an open milk carton. Of putting on a bright face and saying hello as you make small talk with the faculty, though your mind was miles away.
You would sit down on the old, threadbare chair at your desk and review your lesson plans for the day while your mind struggled to adjust to the whirring chaos around you. The fuzzy voice over the loudspeaker. The ringing of bells and hundreds of voices echoing off the lockers in the hallway. The teenagers that you were responsible for filtering into your classroom, the energy of this weekend carrying over into their laughter and antics.
You would put on that bright face and pull yourself together, though the fog was thick with thoughts you couldn’t seem to shake. Sometimes you were grateful for the distraction of your class — tangible and in need of attention. Other times the mask got heavy. It was hard to breathe behind. There were times when all you wanted to do was hide, but the mask offered little protection.
At the top of fourth period, you stood at the front of the classroom like you always did, checking little marks by the names in your grading binder as your eyes scanned down the rows. You paused when you got to Eddie’s.
His seat was empty.
Your stomach dropped, as did your face. Everyone’s eyes were on you. You wondered if they noticed the change in your expression.
Maybe he’s just running late.
Maybe he’s sick.
You steadied the pencil in your hand, took a deep breath, and continued on down the rows. Inside your heart was racing, mind spinning with every possibility. It took all of your strength to keep the mask on for your class.
It might have been the longest 50 minutes of your life. When the bell finally relieved you from your post, you barely remembered to grab your purse before your feet carried you briskly, as fast as they could professionally move, down the hallway toward the teacher’s lounge.
You snatched one of the newspapers slumped in a pile on one of the tables and began to tear through it, flipping through the pages with ravenous eyes, looking for something, anything about an accident or a death or his name or anything.
You sensed someone behind you peering over your shoulder. You could almost feel their hot, labored breathing on your neck.
It took little more than a tilt of your head to see who it was. “H-hi Doris,” you said, stilling the paper in your trembling hands.
“Boy I’ve never seen anyone read a paper so fast in my life,” she said dryly. “Watcha lookin’ for?”
You tucked your wild hair behind your ear and pulled yourself together. “Oh, um,” What were you looking for? Would it sound weird to say? Of course it would. Your mind whirred with appropriate and totally not crazy responses. “My— my car was having some trouble this morning and I uh, you know just thought I’d check the paper to see um— uh, a number for a mechanic or something.”
Ms. O’Donnell stared down at the paper. “Good luck finding one in the obituary section.”
“Ha. Very funny,” you said, folding the paper. “Say uh, you wouldn’t happen to have seen Eddie today? Was he absent for your class too?”
She huffed, un-phased. “Munson? Haven’t seen him. Honestly I’m more surprised when he shows up.”
“Ah, ok.” You stared down at the paper, the words blurring.
“You know he got a D on the pop quiz I gave on Friday.”
You gave a single nod, lips forming a hard line. “Well, he wasn’t able to study, was he?”
“Course not, it’s a pop quiz. You know I’ve gotta give it to you for trying.”
“Yes, well, so is he,” you said curtly. You left the paper crumpled on the table, turning on your heel toward the door.
Tears burned behind your eyes. You knew it was silly. Maybe that’s why they stung. The whole thing was silly and he was probably just sick like half the school was this time of year. But your feet had their own agenda and that was how you found yourself standing in front of the receptionist in the main office.
“Eddie Munson?” she asked, looking over her paperwork. “No I didn’t get a phone call or anything. I marked him as an unexcused absence.”
“Oh, ok. Thanks for checking.”
“You know, his attendance has actually been… unusually good this year.”
“Yeah— yeah, I know. Thanks anyway.” Head down, you almost ran into Diane as you turned to leave.
“Hey soldier, what brings you to my side of the line?”
“Nothing it’s— it’s stupid. I should get going before my lunch break is over.”
Diane folded her arms across her soft, green cardigan. “What’s up?” she asked gently, guiding you out of the way of incoming traffic. “You seem… upset.”
“It’s really nothing. I’m just…” you glanced around the office.
“You wanna talk about it?”
Your voice caught in your throat. Your mouth twitched but no words came out.
“Come on, that’s what my office is for.”
Diane led you across the noisy office with all the talking, and phone ringing, and copy machines whirring, through her doorway — into silence.
You sat down and looked around at what everybody else saw when they took this seat — the concrete walls painted a soft peachy-pink. The plants in her window. The few inspirational posters. The warm glow of the three lamps that lit the room. No fluorescents.
Only Diane did not take her usual place behind her desk, instead she took the seat next to you.
“I’m sorry, this is really stupid. Eddie wasn’t in class today, and I— I know it’s like, well so what, but—” you started.
“He’s the one you’ve been tutoring right?”
“Yeah.”
“He’s never been absent before?” Diane asked with a little chuckle, “It’s almost November.”
“Yeah— yeah, I know. It’s really paranoid of me. He just said that he was going to a party this weekend and I—“ you swallowed, glancing away.
Diane’s face dropped. “Oh.” She put her hand on your shoulder. “I know this is a hard holiday for you, but I’m sure he’s fine. You’re just catastrophizing. I understand where it’s coming from though.”
“Yeah— yeah I’m sure you’re right, I just…” you sighed, taking a moment to steady your breath as her hand soothed over your back. “This weekend was… hard. It’s still hard. All day today.”
“That’s the hidden toll of teaching, isn’t it?” Diane mused, “You see these kids every day and you get so… invested in them. It’s an emotional labor, you know?”
You did know. Just like the papers you graded, it was something you took home with you. Even before Eddie. That was the thing about teaching, even after you went home the job never really ended.
“You really care about him, don’t you?”
Her words hung in the air as your stomach dropped, face turning hot. You couldn’t look her in the eyes. “Yes,” you choked out. “I mean I care about all my students,” you added quickly.
If only she knew.
______
Tuesday, October 29th 1985
Eddie slid his plastic lunch tray along the counter as he waited for his turn in the lunch line like some sort of prisoner.
In his mind he was still cruising the freeway, watching state signs pass, watching the upright citizens of the world go about their daily grind as he watched like a spectator from the outside. Just rambling through. That was what he loved most about skipping school — the feeling of being outside, of wondering what sort of bullshit class his friends were having to fight sleep through as he drove on past with a mug full of coffee and a tank full of gas.
His suffering had earned him almost $300 on Saturday and he was bound and determined to put it to good use. He needed a three day weekend after that. Hell, he really needed to just take the whole week but he figured that might be pushing it.
When he saw the look on your face as he entered your class an hour ago, he was grateful that he hadn’t. He would spend the first ten minutes of it running his fingers over the subtle indents that your green grading pen left behind on his test, feeling for your hand through the paper. Feeling the braille of the lines that came together to form the words “I’m proud of you”.
He could count on one hand the number of As he had gotten in his life — this was one of them.
He would spend the next forty minutes of class watching you, as he always did, with his cheek pressed against his knuckles. He would imagine you in his passenger’s seat — cruising down the road with a mug full of coffee and a tank full of gas. How you would bring your own tapes and serenade him with Joni Mitchell’s “Coyote”. How he would much rather be a prisoner of the white lines on the freeway.
The lunch lady took his tray and slapped a helping of overcooked green beans that looked more grey than green, followed by a splat of mashed potatoes and a shriveled pork chop. Eddie was grateful for how generous she was with the gravy, it would help combat the dryness. Yum.
Eddie took the tray and gave a gracious nod before making his way to the head of the Hellfire table.
“Hey man, where were you yesterday?” asked Dustin through a mouthful of mashed potatoes.
Eddie plopped both his tray and himself down with a sly smirk. He shed his jacket, revealing the bandage on his forearm.
“Oh shit were you in the hospital or something?” asked Mike.
“No he got a tattoo, you doofus,” laughed Jeff, nudging him with his foot under the table.
Mike rolled his eyes, “Oh yeah that’s super obvious.”
“It is,” Jeff snorted.
“Did you end up getting the sphinx from Powerslave?” asked Dave.
“I actually went with the puppet master, I’ll show you guys tomorrow when I can take this thing off. It’s really sick.” Eddie sawed at the hard, dry pork chop with his knife, stabbing it still with the fork in his other hand.
“So how was um, ‘business’ this weekend?” asked Dustin.
Eddie stopped sawing. He hesitated for a moment, his stomach churning as he recalled what happened. The red in Jason’s eyes as he grabbed him by the shirt. The look on all of their faces staring down at him.
Gareth caught his eyes. “Everybody keep an eye out for Jason Carver and any of his bitchboys. They have it out for Eddie,” he interjected.
The table erupted in questions.
“Why, what happened?” asked Dustin.
“Do we need to make them pay?” Dave cracked his knuckles.
“No— no we’re gonna just lay low but keep an eye out for them. Chrissy keeps talking to Eddie and Jason’s being a jealous little bitch about it. Keep an eye out for her too,” answered Gareth.
Eddie felt the pressure release in his chest and gave Gareth a gracious look. He caught the remorse in his eyes. There was another thing that Eddie was relieved by — he left out the part about you.
“Shitheads just being shitheads,” said Eddie finally. “But uh, Gareth’s night wasn’t so shitty,” he prompted with a raise of his eyebrows, changing the subject.
The table shifted audibly.
Gareth smirked. “Yeah Cindy gave me her number.”
Cheers, elbow jabs, and banging on the table came from all directions. Eddie smiled at his friend, full and genuine.
“I called her last night.”
More eruptive cheers. Louder this time.
“What did she say?”
“How’d it go?”
“Did you ask her out?”
“Woah, easy boys, one question at a time,” Gareth chided gently, raising his hands. “I haven’t asked her out yet. We just talked about movies and stuff. I’m trying to feel it out, you know? Gotta take it slow, I don’t wanna scare her away,” he laughed. “It went good though, we talked for like an hour.”
“You should take her to see Goonies,” Dustin suggested.
“She’s already seen Goonies, plus that’s like… is that really a date movie? What kind of movies are date movies?”
Dave snorted, “Stupid movies.”
“Yeah take her to A Room With a View,” Jeff laughed.
“Ew that’s like, serious isn’t it?”
“How ‘bout Rocky IV, that’s romantic,” offered Dustin through a snicker.
“No—no wait the new National Lampoon’s,” Mike chortled.
“Really helpful, thanks guys.”
Eddie chuckled distantly, taking a stab at his green beans. He glanced over toward the door to the teacher’s lounge, across the expanse of the noisy cafeteria. Somewhere behind that wall you too were at a table, eating lunch by yourself in a room full of people. He wondered if you felt as lonely as he did sometimes, a loneliness in feelings that weren’t appropriate to share.
______
Eddie sifted through the contents of his locker, hunting for his chemistry textbook amongst the chaos of loose papers without homes. The door, which shielded him in part from the noisy hallway, was stark. There were remnants of stickers inside from previous occupants, but aside from the papers with his name on it, there was no trace of Eddie Munson. He remembered his first few lockers here, how keen he was to leave his mark on them, to slap Iron Maiden and Slayer stickers on the inside that future occupants would have to scrape to get off. He was less keen to make a home of his sixth.
“Hey Eddie.”
He recognized the voice. Powder soft and sugar sweet, it was twinged with a tentative sadness. He took one look at Chrissy Cunningham and shut his locker, turning away.
“Eddie, wait,” she pleaded, chasing after him.
“I’m not supposed to talk to you,” he said sharply, keeping his pace.
“I know, I’m sorry,” she admitted, her white tennis shoes hitting the tile in quick succession to keep up with his much larger gait.
“Then why are you talking to me?”
“I— I just wanted to apologize.”
Eddie gave a sharp puff of air through his nose and slowed his pace.
“I’m really sorry about Saturday. I was really drunk, I didn’t mean to get you in any trouble.”
Eddie stopped, turning to her sharply. “Yeah? Well, the longer you stand here and talk to me, the closer I am to getting in trouble again, so…”
“I just wanted to say that I’m sorry.”
“Well, you have,” he said curtly, turning away. His feet carried him briskly down the hall, leaving her in the gust of air he left behind.
It might have stopped her feet from following him then, but it didn’t stop her eyes from following as they searched for his across the room in chemistry class.
He would try to avoid them, but eventually the searing heat of her gaze got the best of him. He would concede, and when he did catch a glance of those green eyes from across the room he would think about the time he saw them last. Red and heavy lidded. He would think about the way she stumbled off that couch. The way she crumbled under the weight of Jason’s voice.
So he would concede and meet her eyes for just a moment from across the classroom. Behind them, equal parts desire and remorse.
______
How would you describe Eddie Munson? You had been asking yourself this question since your first encounter after school.
There were the obvious things — Plush lips. Strong chin. Soft nose. A jaw sharp enough to cut glass. Big brown eyes like a baby cow. Wild ringlets that framed his face and cascaded down his shoulders.
Then, more subtly — A summer wind. Restless and frenetic, but soft all at once. Soft in the comfortable silence that sometimes fell between you. The silence of listening. There was warmth in him too — the kind of warmth that colored the brightness of his voice when the silence was broken. He was wild, and warm, and restless, and magnetic all at once. A summer wind.
It was a question you would ask yourself after every encounter. Each time you would come away with something more.
What you did know for certain today was that nothing compared to the sight of his sweet face as he took the seat across from you.
“It’s good to see you,” you said. As if that even scratched the surface.
“Yeah, you too.” His eyes held yours as he shed his jacket around the chair. He leaned forward in it, resting his arms on the desk between you.
You were just happy to see the pink in his cheeks, the extra fluff in his hair today. You could smell the product in it even from across the desk. Your fingers occupied themselves with the pen in front of you. “I was… worried about you. On Monday.”
His eyes widened. “Shit, I’m really sorry about that,” he lamented. You could tell that he meant it too. “I was uh, getting this.” He presented his forearm with a cheeky grin.
You looked down at the inky black lines on his skin. At the gnarled hand grasping a wooden marionette cross with strings hanging down. You followed them down to what appeared to be some sort of zombie or undead creature hanging from them.
Your eyes lit up like Christmas. “Aren’t those… illegal here?” you asked in a crazed little whisper, the look on your face was wild and fascinated.
“Only in Indiana.” You could hear the mischief in his voice. “I drove to Illinois to get it. That’s why I had to take the whole day.”
You had to laugh. And you did. “Well I’m glad you’re safe. I guess it was… silly of me to worry so much.”
“No— no I should have at least called in and made up some bullshit. I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine, I’m just glad you’re ok. That’s all that matters.” You looked down at his arm again, at the dark, angry lines across his reddened skin. “Did it hurt?”
“Yeah, it always does a little. This one wasn’t so bad. I have others.” His dark eyes flashed at you as he hooked his fingers over the collar of his shirt, exposing the ink under his collarbone. “This one hurt the worst,” he said with a soft smirk. His hand lingered there, an offering to your eyes.
You cursed the animal inside you. The one that growled from deep within your abdomen and crawled its way into your cheeks. The one that whispered about what your lips might feel like on the skin that he exposed for you.
“O—oh yeah I can see why that would hurt.” Your eyes diverted back to his arm, tracing the lines with your eyes. You brought your face closer to examine, but you were more interested in the velvet skin of his forearm. How something could be strong and soft all at once. Your fingers twitched above it.
“You can touch it,” he said. An offering — an experience. His voice was barely above a whisper.
Your eyes met his. Hesitant, you accepted, lowering your fingers slowly, then your eyes. He was so warm and impossibly soft. You were almost afraid he would feel your pulse pounding through your fingertips as they traced tentative, delicate patterns across his skin.
There was a gentle puff of air against your face as he sighed at the contact.
It took courage to look up at him, but when you did he held your gaze with an intensity that made you shudder.
“Sorry, my fingers are cold,” you said with a nervous laugh.
“It’s fine, I don’t mind.” His voice was gentle, distant, like a trance. “It feels… nice actually.”
You lowered your eyes again, and then more of your fingers across his warm, velvet skin, sliding slowly up and down the solid expanse of his forearm. You could feel the tendons, the soft brush of hair at the edges.
“Does it still hurt?” you asked softly.
“Yeah, a little. Kind of itches more than anything now.”
His palm was facing up at you, so close to the heat of your body. His long fingers twitched.
You should have pulled away. You knew you should and you were trying but his skin was like a magnet and you could not bring yourself to do it. It was too painful.
“How was the party?” you asked as a knot twisted in your stomach.
He huffed and shook his head, “Pretty shitty if I’m being honest.”
The knot released a little. “That bad huh?”
His eyes widened, giving a crazed little look, “Yeah, it was that bad.”
“What happened?”
His brow furrowed as he searched for the words, “Just… drama I guess — involving a certain, uh, basic primate. It’s really stupid, honestly.”
Your fingers pressed concern against his arm, ever so subtly. “Jason?”
Eddie rolled his eyes, casting his gaze away. “Yeah, he’s a real dick. Anyway, like I said, it’s stupid.”
You wanted to press on, but it seemed like he didn’t care to elaborate.
“I was worried about you, at the party,” you said softly. And then you did something bold, as if possessed by a force stronger than your noble mind — you lowered your palm.
You could feel his approving hum through your hand, the vibrations rippling from under his velvet skin.
“I knew you would be. I was extra careful.” His eyes flitted up to yours. “For you.”
It was the seriousness of his tone that stirred you most. The earnest, deadpan look on his face, like there were volumes behind those two words.
It opened up a narrow passage, and you entered with the boldest thing that you had ever said.
“I really care for you.”
You wondered if he could feel your pulse hammering against his arm, feel your hand start to sweat. Your fingers twitched, mind racing with second-guessing. “I’m sorry,” you whispered. You lifted your hand to remove it, but then he did something that surprised you.
His hand below you gripped your arm.
“No—no,” he soothed, his eyes meeting yours in earnest. “It’s ok.”
Time stopped — frozen as he held you in his gaze. You might have thought your heart stopped too had it not been so audibly pounding in your ears.
“I care for you too,” he admitted.
The breath that was caught in your chest released, and with his permission, you relaxed into the touch. You squeezed his arm gently — a gesture he returned, and heavy sigh escaped both of you at once.
It was only a moment, but there a whisper, no — a bold admission in the quiet of the air between you.
He smiled at you. Breathy and crooked, a wild warmth in his eyes. And for one stolen moment the fear that had nestled itself deep within your chest melted away.
The animal inside you stirred, stretching outward like a yawn, up into your neck and cheeks again. It was warm this time. Comfortable now.
The world around you fell away. The concrete walls, and clocks, and bells, and chalkboards ceased to exist. There was nothing else that mattered except hands on skin across the great divide of the desk lodged between you.
Your mouth twitched but words would not come. You feared that if they did the spell would break.
Eddie was much braver.
“I wish you could have come. To the party. I mean like, hypothetically, not… realistically. But like, another party. I— I don’t know. Sorry that sounds really stupid,” he said with a little chuckle. His arm remained locked to yours, curious fingers wandering across your skin.
“No it’s not, I— I wish I could have gone too. Hypothetically. I would have had a much better Saturday night than I did on my own, trust me,” you said with a pained laugh.
He shook his head, thumb rubbing electric circles on your arm. “Oh I don’t know about that.”
“I do,” you said.
And with that Eddie did something even braver — his palm traced its way down your arm until it found your hand. He held it in his for a moment, warm, calloused thumb soothing over your knuckles. You could feel those bones again, those strong fingers that held you steady as you threatened to tremble.
It was only for a moment. But in this moment there were two things that were abundantly clear for both of you —
1. It felt too good to stop.
2. That things would never be the same.

“I can't believe you. I just can't.”
Polycakes (me and Polychrome, aka @polychromicron-persei-8) here, proudly hurling the first fanfic grenade in the @goodomensafterdark Smut War with The Long Road To Meatballs (rated Explicit, 4786 words).
Summary and excerpt below!
NSFW CW: light BDSM, butt plugs, oral sex, penis inflation (not in excerpt but on AO3)
The Long Road to Meatballs
After an unfortunate miscommunication regarding the lack of spice in their lives, Aziraphale and Crowley seek out IKEA’s new intimate playroom products for the South Downs cottage. When their purchase—and all 279+ parts—proves too difficult to assemble, Aziraphale and Crowley take matters into their own hands (literally). It's the IKEA comedy smut you never knew you wanted but can't live without.
IKEA had evolved a great deal over the decades, as had Crowley and Aziraphale’s relationship. The Swedish furniture and furnishings company—in a debatably misguided and belated attempt to be a part of the sex-positivity movement—had developed designs for one’s personal intimate playroom, including the TRÄLDOM, BOTÖVNING, and FLATHET series. In addition, the Swedish designers had managed to produce products for each line that incorporated a not insignificant amount of chipboard.[1] This was quite a feat considering that most of the products listed should have been predominantly made of metal, leather, silicone, latex, or fur.[2]
As for Crowley and Aziraphale’s relationship, it had evolved out of a 6000-year drama defined by mutual pining and pegged in by supernatural bureaucracy, into a satisfying pairing filled with safety, stability, and sex. Lovemaking had been glorious and intoxicating, and while it rarely verged into territory that could be considered truly “hedonistic,” both parties were quietly content in their newfound domesticity. But as we both know, dear reader, few things last forever.
And so it was on a mild Tuesday afternoon in the South Downs when an unfortunate exchange concerning Crowley’s cooking planted a seed of doubt in the demon's mind as to whether his angel was truly sexually satisfied.
[1] Note for Americans and other aliens: chipboard is the British term for particle board or low-density fibreboard. Regardless of the term, it is an unsuitable material for any type of sexual activity as it has the ability to absorb moisture like a sponge.
[2] This had led to IKEA ending up in litigation for five years over several regrettable incidents that had occurred with their compressed wooden dildo.
