Angel of God, my guardian …
HONOR ALL THE ANGELS SENT TO MINISTER TO US
September 29 is the Feast Day of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. October 2 is the Feast Day of the Guardian Angels.
“𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐮𝐛𝐢𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐳𝐞 𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞, 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐮𝐧𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧! 𝐎, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬?” 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐲𝐬𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦
In a 1986 general audience, Pope John Paul II reminded us of the meaning of the names of the three Archangels:
1 ST. MICHAEL
“Mica-EL in fact means: ‘Who is like God?’ In this name, therefore, we find expressed the salvific choice thanks to which the angels ‘see the face of the Father’ who is in Heaven.”
𝐀𝐩𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐩𝐬𝐞 𝟏𝟐:𝟕-𝟖 “𝐖𝐚𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧, 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐧. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧.”
2 ST. GABRIEL
Next is Gabri-EL, meaning “my power is God” or “power of God.”
𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐥 𝟗:𝟐𝟏-𝟐𝟑 “𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐧, 𝐆𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐥, 𝐰𝐡𝐨𝐦 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞, 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠. 𝐇𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬: '𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐥, 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠. 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝'.”
3 ST. RAPHAEL
Then there is Raphael, ‘Rafa-EL’ meaning “God heals.”
𝐓𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐭 𝟒:𝟏𝟏 “𝐅𝐨𝐫  𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐬  𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫  𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦  𝐚𝐥𝐥  𝐬𝐢𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝  𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦  𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡, 𝐚𝐧𝐝  𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐨𝐭  𝐬𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫  𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐥  𝐭𝐨  𝐠𝐨  𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨  𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬.”
“Each one of these figures, Mica-EL, Gabri-EL, and Rafa-EL reflects in a particular way the truth contained in Paul’s ‘Letter to the Hebrews (1:14): Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to serve, for the sake of those who are to possess salvation?’”
4 CELESTIAL CHOIRS
Promises of St. Michael to Antonia d’Astonac to those who prayed the Chaplet of St. Michael: “Whoever would practice this devotion in his honour would have, when approaching the Holy Table, an escort of nine angels chosen from each of the nine Choirs. In addition, for the daily recital of these nine salutations, he promised his continual assistance and that all the holy angels during life, and after death deliverance from Purgatory for themselves and all their relations.”

In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti…
“Amen.” If you weren’t paying attention and side eyeing him at that exact moment, you might’ve lost the way his lips moved following the ritual, no word actually leaving his mouth.
The black haired man didn’t look too comfortable, but didn’t look out of place either, he knew the cues, he spoke the words on automatic it seemed. It amused you to observe people’s behavior on holy grounds, that was part of the reason you asked to meet in silver spring.
“Catholic, Mr. Hotchner?” Your question is met with a low scoff, the type only those with a bad bad history with the church gave you. “That much, huh?”
“My parents were.” The answer is simple and you think it might stop at that, but he shakes his head and scoffs again. “I was an altar boy for years before I left for boarding school.” You nod.
“Ah. I've met some of you in my research.” Some of you. Church babies, altar boys. Spoon fed the bible from birth while watching everyone around sin. Sin becoming a term to reflect on what they hated.
    “And you? Catholic?”
“Oh no. Never been.” You don’t explain much, aware Emily probably told him of your time in Rome, where the two of you met. “Your UnSub is though. Either devoted to Saint Michael or knows enough about his roles to look like one.” You note, being reminded of the pictures Emily sent you, big stab wounds, a small scale tipped to one side, the words Hebrews 9:22 written in blood.
Hotchner doesn’t reply, making a mental reminder of the new information, he looks around the place as you both leave the church and it hits him, Silver Spring’s St. Michael the Archangel parish, the church you chose as a meeting place.
He wouldn’t usually accept consultation for cases, especially from outsiders. And to be fair, the BAU doesn’t usually need any, Reid alone has more knowledge than anyone Hotch has ever met, and despite the humbleness he tends to show, Hotch himself can take care of the general book knowledge if Reid doesn’t step up to it. But he trusted Emily, and Emily spoke more highly of you than of anyone. Honestly, he was also trying to make amends after not having her back during the Matthew case they had not long before.
“She's in town giving lectures, it’s an asset we have easy access to, so why not use it?” Were her final and most convincing words before Hotch nodded in agreement, watching Emily make the call that led to the meeting.
He thinks now, as he’s driving both of you to Quantico, that maybe Emily should’ve been the one here, his attempts to strike conversation falling flat as you don’t even remember the last time you had to make small talk with someone, it felt awkward all of a sudden, as if you were on a date.
“I'm so sorry, I'm not too good with… People.” You blurt out after a long minute of silence, your neck suddenly warm from embarrassment.
Hotch side eyes you, brows lifted in confusion. You seemed much less confident in the car now than what you showed him of you minutes before back at the church. He figures you felt confident talking about your area of expertise and that he could relate to easily. “Did you notice anything else by the pictures Emily sent you?”
The switch of topic makes you sigh loudly in relief and you mentally thank him for brushing your silliness off. “He’s using different pieces of catholic dogma and putting it together, but most of the symbology eludes to Michael, the stabbing looks like a sword, the tipped scale indicates judgment, the verse he chose doesn’t cite Michael but talks about sins being forgiven by the shedding of blood… He’s the judge and executioner of his victims.” You try not to sound excited as you ramble on, it’s a terrible thing to witness, the pictures were grotesque and would’ve made you sick on a normal day, but the cherry picking of symbols the murderer seemed to make fascinated you.
“So you believe it’s a man?”
“Oh! I–I don’t know? I just assumed… Is that misogynistic?” You mumble the last part more to yourself, but it’s loud enough to make him chuckle and you look at him quickly to make sure it’s not mean spirited.
It’s definitely not. But it is amusing from a profiler perspective, he’s so used to defining serials’ genders by their crimes he hasn’t thought about misogyny being a factor to those assumptions in a long time.
“Brutality suggests male. But posing looks remorseful, theatrical…” His grip on the wheel tightens, two victims by now, feet crossed, arms wide open.
“If there were more allusions to the crucifixion, yeah, but I–” You take your phone out to look at the pictures once more, an attempt to seem less abstract in what you’re about to say. “No crown, no nails, this isn’t about Christ, it’s about punishment–I mean, I think.” You’re not usually self conscious about your knowledge but inferring characteristics and desires to someone by looking at a crime scene was not your specialty.
“To further point they were judged and executed…” Hotch nods, understanding where your line of thought is going and completing it immediately, not leaving you much time to doubt yourself.
    “A very shameful execution.”
You both spend the short ride from Silver Springs to Quantico going over the symbology present, you tried to help here and there with the associations of what you saw to who could’ve done it, even though that was not what you were called in for. Strangely enough—for him at least, Hotch didn’t seem to mind your guesses, they were educated ones.
And it was interesting to hear someone speak with such passion about religious aspects without any of the fundamentalism. It was definitely something he wasn’t used to.
“Mi amore!” Are the first words you hear as you enter the famous bullpen from Emily’s texts, her arms surrounding you in a tight warm hug you haven’t felt in years—it hits you then how long has it been. You weren’t able to come and mourn Matthew with her, his parents weren’t fond of you either (Lord almighty, you didn’t even go to church with them!) and you were busy with your lectures.
“Hey troublemaker, how’s it going?” Your question is muffled in the hug, your hands clasping together behind her back.
The reunion doesn’t last long, curious eyes set on you two and a rather impatient Hotch leading the way to what you learned was the conference room.
The briefing room. The round table. Emily told you about it when she first got into the BAU.
You end up sitting between Emily and who you would bet was Spencer—there’s this sweet kid working with us, he’s super smart, annoyingly smart, but so sweet, he reminds of Matty when we were teens—the lanky boy was the only one with what seemed like naivety enough in his eyes to be the one Emily mentioned back then.
Aaron sat in front of you almost, serious, stern, very different from the few chuckles you got from him in the car. This was unit chief Hotchner, the subtle difference was fascinating.
“Alright, as we know, DC is in trouble, second murder in three weeks.” blonde and gorgeous, you believed that was JJ, there had been no time for introductions, all you could do was try to remember the e-mails and few phone calls you shared with Emily the past years. “Richard Beckett, married, no kids, 27. He works for his father's car dealership.”
Pictures show up on the screen, showing the man when he was alive. It’s a punch to your gut, just minutes before you were fascinated by the way this real person was murdered. You’re glad you had a light breakfast by the way your stomach turns.
“Monica Dawson, divorced, no kids, 53. She’s a counselor at a local school.” The woman continues speaking, with more pictures on the screen. And then pictures of their deaths, side by side. The fascination is completely extinguished then. “Both were stabbed countless times with a large blade. Left in abandoned warehouses posed in a cross position, a tipped scale on their side. Both naked. Both were heavily drugged.”
“They didn’t have kids, is that a coincidence?” You hear Emily speak up and suddenly you can see all their brains working.
“Could that be the linking between them? The victimology is all over the place.” Derek. Oh. You’ve heard of Derek. You’ve seen pictures of Derek. He needs no introduction.
“Reid, Morgan, go talk to the first victim’s widow. Rossi, JJ, Ms. Dawson’s ex-husband can give us insight on her life. Emily and us—” He gives you a look and you understand he means you, nodding in reply. “Will head to the DC police precinct.” The way Hotch gives orders is effortless, not only his job but his vocation.
Everyone listens and agrees quickly, moving and leaving the table, even Emily is fast on her feet, even though she won’t leave without you and him. You stay still, stiff, eyes glued to the screen.
“Are you alright?” His voice is soft, laced with worry, genuine worry. You didn’t even notice he had stayed behind, but you nod again at Hotch, a question burning at the tip of your tongue.
“Do you still believe in God, Mr. Hotchner?”

Saints for whom Snape has a particular fondness:
St. Joseph - the father who loved his child as his own despite the whole Son of God thing. I always thought Snape would take comfort there.
Mary - I don't think I know a Catholic who doesn't have any kind of personal connection to Mary. She's comfort and understanding and an intercessor in troubled times. Huh...I may have had enough vodka tonight to make a parallel between Eileen and Mary in re: their function in the Church and in Severus' life.
St. Joshua - the patron saint of spies and intelligence workers. I like to think Dumbledore (despite being raised in a hand-wavey Anglican sort of household) had a St. Joshua medal commissioned for Snape at some point.
St. Michael the Archangel -
O Michael of the Angels and the righteous in heaven, Shield thou my soul  With the shade of thy sword. Shield thou my soul  On earth and in heaven.
From foes upon earth, From foes beneath earth, From foes in concealment, Protect and encircle  My soul 'neath thy wing,   O my soul with the shade of thy wing. (I can see this being a bit of a ritual for Snape before heading into a DE meeting)
St. Jude Thaddeus - patron saint of desperate situations and lost causes. I feel like that one is a bit of a no-brainer
Now, though, I've made myself sad thinking of canon Snape dying with no one there to administer Last Rites.
Good thing there's fanfic!

Mother Mary, intercede for us.
St Joseph, terror of demons and protector of the holy church, pray for us.
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
All the saints and angels, pray for us.

intro post 👋
hello! i’d prefer to stay anonymous but i wanna give a little info about what i do for anyone who may be in the same boat :)
i was raised catholic. i also have ocd which for a long time warped my catholic upbringing into scrupulosity/religious ocd (obsessively trying to always do the “right” thing lest i go to hell, compulsively keeping track of my “sins”, etc).
YEARS ago in middle/high school i had a friend who got into wicca and she invited me over for a full moon ceremony in her yard, and (despite that ocd-voice yelling at me and making me anxious the whole time about whether this was all okay) i was really struck by how beautiful and NATURAL it felt- being outside, including stones and herbal tea, making wishes on candles- and i secretly prayed throughout the whole thing, both as an ocd protective measure (still very much worried about hell), and, now i realize, as a perfectly natural addition to the ritual. i was raised to believe that God created the earth and everything on it…. why couldn’t i connect with Him THROUGH that creation? where church often made me feel anxious and LESS than, i’ve never had any problem feeling connected and distinctly “magical” when i’m outside interacting with the natural world. but at that point i was still too anxious and scrupulous about it all to really do any exploring.
flash forward to college and i started a small crystal collection, mainly for aesthetic, but also with a bit of curiosity. flash forward again and i’ve discovered Christian witchcraft is in fact A Thing, that the Bible’s been translated a million times and that whole “witch” line is pretty negligible, and Hildegarde Von Bingen was doing crystals before it was cool. in a weird way the pendulum has swung back to the other side, and i’m probably more catholic now than ever, but in the healthiest, most fun, magical way that makes so much sense to me. I talk to God & Jesus with tarot cards, i keep candles for some favorite saints (St. Beatrice Da Silva, my confirmation saint, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Mary Magdalene, St. Michael Archangel, and of course Mother Mary), and I can name the correspondences of a long list of herbs and crystals and use them to set goals for myself and to create what i think of as “physical petitions” (spells). where i used to pray obsessively, never feeling like i “did it *quite* right”, now i can put some herbs in a bottle and truly let it go.
i still feel i have a lot to learn. i know a lot of the theory, but i just need practice really connecting. i’ve definitely had some strange coincidences that are hard to brush off, but i’m still growing and learning every day.
so welcome to whatever this is! i hope you can find some of it useful or interesting.

THE DESCRIPTION OF THE THREE ARCHANGELS Feast Days: September 29, March 24 (St. Gabriel's traditional feast), May 8 (St. Michael's apparition at Monte Gargano), October 24 (St. Raphael's traditional feast)
"Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this. And he said to him, 'Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man!'" -John 1:47-51
St. Michael. St. Gabriel. St. Raphael. These are the Three Archangels that is been mentioned in the Holy Scriptures, and they are honored by the Roman Catholic Church.
The archangels are spiritual beings of the highest rank created by God before the beginning of the world. They have no material body and are immortal. Their name is given according to the mission have received from God. The word archangel is only used twice in the New Testament: In the 4th chapter of Paul's first letter to the Thessalonians and the Epistle of Jude.
The archangel Michael, whose name means 'who is like God (or Quis ut Deus?)', was assigned to fight the devil. He was appointed to cast Lucifer out of Paradise, for challenging the sovereignty of God, as according to the Book of Revelation: 'Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.'
Michael helps us in the daily struggle against Satan, who will be defeated in the Apocalyptic war at the end times.
In Roman Catholic teachings, Saint Michael has four main roles or offices. His first role is the leader of the Army of God and the leader of heaven's forces in their triumph over the powers of hell. He is viewed as the angelic model for the virtues of the spiritual warrior, with the conflict against evil at times viewed as the battle within. The second and third roles of Michael in Catholic teachings deal with death. In his second role, Michael is the angel of death, carrying the souls of all the deceased to heaven. In this role Michael descends at the hour of death, and gives each soul the chance to redeem itself before passing; thus consternating the devil and his minions. Catholic prayers often refer to this role of Michael. In his third role, he weighs souls on his perfectly balanced scales. For this reason, Michael is often depicted holding scales. In his fourth role, Saint Michael, the special patron of the Chosen People in the Old Testament, is also the guardian of the Church. Roman Catholicism includes traditions such as the Prayer to Saint Michael, which specifically asks for the faithful to be 'defended' by the saint, and the Chaplet of Saint Michael consists of nine salutations, one for each choir of angels.
The archangel Gabriel, whose name means 'God is my strength or hero of God', received the mission to proclaim God's almighty power. He was sent to announce the birth of Jesus to the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the Gospel of Luke, when Mary objected that she was still virgin, Gabriel replied: 'Nothing is impossible from God.'
Gabriel has the power to assist us in the most desperate cases, and to protect those who announce the Good News. It is said that Gabriel is the destroyer of the sinful city of Sodom.
It is said that Gabriel played some important roles: he taught Moses in the wilderness to write the Book of Genesis, the revealing of the coming of the Savior to Daniel, his appearance to Joachim and Anne the birth of Mary, and the appearance to Zechariah to announce the birth of John the Baptist.
In the Gospel of Matthew, Gabriel may have been the unnamed angel, who appeared to St. Joseph in his sleep and instructed Joseph not to divorce Mary quietly, and explained that Mary’s child was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and that He would be named Emmanuel, which means God is with us. And in the Gospel of Luke, Gabriel may have been the angel who appeared to the Lord Jesus himself, in the Garden of Gethsemane before His Passion, to strengthen him.
The archangel Raphael, whose name means 'God has healed', was appointed to cure the sickness of the spirit and of the body, and appeared in the Book of Tobit, and is also identified as the angel who moved the waters of the healing sheep pool.
After getting blinded, God hears both Tobit and Sarah's prayers and Raphael is sent to help them. Tobias is sent to recover money from a relative, and Raphael, in human disguise, offers to accompany him. On the way they catch a fish in the Tigris, and Raphael tells Tobias that the burnt heart and liver can drive out demons and the gall can cure blindness. They arrive in Ecbatana and meet Sarah, and as Raphael has predicted the demon, named Asmodeus, is driven out. Tobias and Sarah are married, Tobias grows wealthy, and they return to Nineveh (Assyria) where Tobit and Anna await them. After revealing his true identity, he said to him: 'I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who enter and serve before the Glory of the Lord.'
Tobit's blindness is cured, and Raphael departs after admonishing Tobit and Tobias to bless God and declare his deeds to the people (the Israelites), to pray and fast, and to give alms. Tobit praises God, who has punished his people with exile but will show them mercy and rebuild the Temple if they turn to him.
Michael is the patron of the military and police forces, Gabriel is the patron of messengers, those who work for broadcasting and telecommunications such as radio and television, postal workers, clerics, diplomats, police dispatchers and stamp collectors, and Raphael is the patron of the blind, of happy meetings, of nurses, of physicians and of travelers.
