u make me wanna get into sound garden 😭 what's your fav album?

between badmotorfinger and superunkown.... god i cant choose! i say just listen to their a-sides (aka their singles) album and if you like them then start with:

badmotorfinger, its big! its bold! its sharp! there are psychedelic endeavours, slow burners and loud abrasive rock. kim is a beast on the guitar and chris' vocals were at their finest on this record.

songs i'd rec: rusty cage, room a thousand years wide, outshined, mind riot and holy water

then superunknown, said to be their best - which could be true... the album has some of the best lyrics to ever come from the band (they all wrote songs, not just chris cornell) and the full embrace of psychedelia is ever so evident on this album, along with the usual metal influences too

songs i'd rec: black hole sun (BIG yawn for me, never really liked it and its so overplayed but its their most popular song...), my wave, fourth of july, spoonman, fell on black days and superunknown

other songs i'd rec:

big dumb sex, burden in my hand, ty cobb, pretty noose, limo wreck, blow up the outside world, rhinosaur and all your lies

It's so specific but, I'll always be thankful for River Phoenix for getting me into Fugazi when I was really young. I swear he is just one of the coolest guys to me.

I'm also a big fan of rock, and I was interested on your opinions regarding Alice in Chains or any Seattle bands at the time if you know..Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Mother love Bone...

Seven Year Bitch and Melvins are probably my favourites from 90s Seattle bands. I love Soundgarden though - Superunkown is one of the greatest albums of all time, and I feel super privileged to have gotten to see them live before Chris passed away.

I enjoy Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam to a lesser extent - in the sense that I only really know the "hits" and don't go out of my way to listen to them, but I don't dislike them.

Man, one of the greatest blessings of my life was getting to see the late and forever great Chris Cornell perform live, back in 2014, approximately twenty years after Soundgarden’s Superunkown 1994 debut. I arrived to that concert late because I’d (stupidly) written the time down wrong and I didn’t realize until the last minute. I remember my dad driving us through this absolute torrential downpour and me begging him to drive faster even though we could barely see two feet in front of us and the windshield wipers were flying across the dashboard at full speed. Luckily, I hadn’t missed that many songs from the opening set, and one of my most cherished memories was getting to hear Black Hole Sun live. 

I grew up with Audioslave (and later Soundgarden -- I know, it’s a bit backwards) but loving Chris Cornell was as easy as breathing. His music, his voice, the lyrics, it all just spoke to me in a way that nothing else ever really had, even at the tender age of nine and ten, and it has continued to follow me onwards throughout the rest of my life. His music shaped me and was there for me when nothing else ever was. I just think that that’s the power of incredibly evocative and timeless music, and Chris Cornell gave us that gift. Rest in peace, man, and thank you so much for everything.
