been playing through TWDG after like 10 years and I decided to draw a really self-serving idea of "what if every child throughout the series made it to Ericsons with Clem"
Duck is not a smart man but he's exceptionally loyal. His lack of wit is countered by his raw strength, despite losing a hand all the way back at the motor inn. At Ericson's he'd probably hang around with the likes of Mitch and Willy. Totally has his dad's hat somewhere.
Becca is the local pain in the ass. Constantly breaching the safe zone and acting primarily in her own interests, few people actually like her but can't deny her capability; she's good to have around in a fight. She's come to respect Clementine's resourcefulness but would never admit it.
Sarah stays firmly within the walls of the school, but that doesn't mean she doesn't pull her own weight. Following in her father's footsteps she's the closest the school has to a doctor now. She'll hang close to Clementine but also gets along with Ruby and Aasim.
Gabe Garcia is the local sadboy. He's not as moody as he was in Richmond, but he's still a little mopey and insists on stepping up. Despite her protests he's very protective of his sister, and still harbors a soft spot for Clementine - so naturally doesn't get along with Louis/Violet.
Mariana Garcia is young but capable, and weirdly well adjusted and mature for her age - she's younger than Gabe but feels like the older sister. After the New Frontier shot her eye out she hasn't been as active in a fight but she'll still insist on pulling her weight while knowing her limits. Gets on with everyone.
James Fairbanks is the oldest known surviving member of his family (unless Sam is still out there) and is brutally protective of his younger brother, Alex. Has a mutual respect with Clem and is very good at setting traps outside the school.
Alex Fairbanks would probably like to fight walkers more but James prefers he'd stick to supply runs and stay on watch. He feels stuck at the kids' table and wants to do more to help, but is at a loss on how to do so.

I will actually never forgive how the season 2 writers handled the Cabin Group; most of all Sarah... like what the fuck do you MEAN she had post-traumatic stress disorder and THAT'S the reason her father was so protective over her?? 🚪🚪🚪
Like what do you MEAN the writers KNEW that and STILL wrote her off as a liability with 2 deaths (one avoidable as hell) but made mandatory out of pure spite? 🚪🚪🚪
Like what the fuck do you MEAN was Sarah considered to be more of a liability than a literal fucking newborn baby? 🚪💥🚪💥🚪💥
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like, do NOT get me wrong, I love Ben, but you can argue Ben deserved some of the the criticism for his actions (mainly Ep.3 for me, I refuse to consider Ep.4 Ben the same person; they were doing that dumb shit with Ben in Ep.4 out of spite) but Sarah got... wayyy more hate that Ben did back in the day, and I genuinely can't think of one thing Sarah did actually wrong to warrant genuine malice other than having the nerve to be traumatized, a kid, and not deal with her trauma the same way someone else (aka...Clem) dealt with trauma.
Just tanked my feelings for season 2 from a solid B to a--

doodlebug - autistic!clementine, seasons 1&2
for @lonlonmilck - i hope you enjoy! i absolutely LOVED writing this one :)
if you'd like to request a twdg fic, shoot me an ask!
also on my ao3
After they leave Lilly behind, Clementine sort of…shuts down, for a minute. Kenny, Katjaa, and Duck all stay up front in the RV, and Lee goes to speak with them. While he’s gone, Clem considers joining Ben at the table and seeing how he is, but something tells her Ben doesn’t want to talk to anyone right now.
She wishes Carley were still here. Carley was always nice to hang around, she used to find leaves around the motor inn for Clementine to do her rubbings with. Clem longs to feel a pencil beneath her fingers again, a piece of powdery pink chalk in her hands, but her body doesn’t seem to want to cooperate on that front.
She’s scared. She’s been scared this whole time. But right now, she feels the most terrified she’s ever been. Worse than Sandra, and the walkers at the drugstore, and even worse than when she’d crawled out of the vent in the St. Johns’ barn and seen the horrible room full of blood and blades waiting for her. This, somehow, is so much worse than any of that.
When Lee tells her Duck’s been bitten, Clem gets angry.
“I thought he was just tired, and that’s why he didn’t want to talk to me today.” She scowls. “I didn’t know he was stupid enough to get bit. ”
“Clem,” Lee says. Concern laces his tone. “You know it isn’t anyone’s fault. These things…they happen, now. It’s how the world is.”
“But he’s my friend, ” says Clem, and suddenly she’s crying just like the whiny little baby she is, hot tears splashing out and down her cheeks. “I don’t want him to go…”
“We don’t know everything about these yet,” Lee reassures her, a hand on her shoulder. If it were anyone other than Lee touching her, Clem would recoil; but it is Lee, so she leans into it, not away. “Duck could bounce back. We could still find a way to help him.”
But the way he talks makes it sound like Duck is already dead.
I wouldn’t have let your friend get bit, says the stranger on the walkie talkie. If I were there, he’d still be alive and playing with you.
The worst part is that Clem has no idea whether or not to believe him.
– – –
Lee dies, and Clementine nearly doesn’t make it out of Savannah. Not after him, not after the stranger and his bowling bag, not after her Mom and Dad - she leaves Lee, because she has to, but she gets stuck at the door and can’t bring herself to open it.
Because if she opens it, he’s really gone. And all the walkers outside - they’re loud, moaning and groaning and wailing all over the place, the swarm they brought down with them when they took the train. Before it had been easier; Lee had smeared the guts on her, Lee had held her hand and kept her close as they moved through the crowded, jostling pack. Now, she’s alone. She has to freshen the entrails herself, and the smell and the feeling of them all slippery and warm beneath Clem’s fingers nearly makes her puke. She has no hand to hold, and for one fleeting moment, she thinks it might be easier to just stay here. With him.
But that’s not what Lee would have wanted. And Christa and Omid are out there somewhere, waiting for her. She has to find them.
She has to find them.
So she opens the door, and she holds her palms against her ears.
– – –
“Do you blame me?” Clem asks. “It’s my fault he’s gone.”
“I don’t blame you,” Christa tells her, and Clem knows that she lies.
– – –
“I think you’ll get along well with Sarah,” Pete tells her, even though they’re still convinced it’s a walker bite and Luke refuses to carry her any longer.
“Who’s Sarah,” asks Clem, rather dully. Her arm hurts like a motherfucker; she can still hear Sam’s dying whine from when she slid the knife beneath his matted yellow fur.
“She’s another girl,” Luke tells her. “Bit older than you, but sweet. You guys might have some things in common.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Clementine demands, and Luke blanches.
“I didn’t mean - only that - “
Pete saves him. “She could just really use a friend closer to her own age,” he says kindly. “I bet you could, too.”
The last age-appropriate friend Clem had was Duck, and Duck got bit. She doesn’t exactly have high hopes for this Sarah kid, either. Really, she shouldn’t be making any friends, because they’ll all just leave her eventually, and then she’ll be alone again.
Maybe she’s the common denominator. Maybe, if she lets people be, no one else will have to die.
But she knows on her own, she wouldn’t survive.
Sarah is sweet, it’s true, and nice enough, but she doesn’t get it. She’s never killed a walker and when Clem tries to teach her how to use a gun, Sarah nearly shoots her right between the eyes.
“Don’t point that at me!” Clementine exclaims. “You never, ever point a gun at someone, even if you know it’s not loaded! If you keep doing that, you’re going to get someone killed.”
Sarah shrinks in on herself. She lowers the pistol, embarrassed. “Ok,” she whispers, the grimy lenses of her crimson glasses fogging up with unshed tears. “I’m sorry. Just…please don’t shout at me.”
Clem hadn’t even realized she’d been yelling. She hadn’t meant to hurt Sarah’s feelings, it’s only that she has to know these things. If Lee hadn’t taught Clem everything he had, she wouldn’t still be alive. She knows that.
And Sarah is sweet, even if she’s naive. Clementine doesn’t want her to die. “Why can’t you tell me who that guy at the door was?!” Clem demands, and Sarah wilts and bites her fingernails and says, “I’m sorry I’m sorry I just - I can’t remember!”
Clem sighs; she pulls Sarah into a hug and holds her there until she calms down again.
Jane is blunt, like her. Jane knows how hard it is to lose the ones you care about, to be left all by your lonesome. Clem likes her, likes that she’s smart enough to use the guts as a disguise and flirt with Troy ‘til the walkers get him. She admires Jane’s poker face, and her short-chopped hair, and how she teaches Clem to take them out at the knee so it’s easier to reach their skulls.
But then Jane wants to leave Sarah in the trailer home. And Clem understands - more than anyone bar Carlos, and Carlos is gone - that Sarah can be difficult, but Jane’s so quick to abandon her for dead that Clementine starts to worry, and not just for her friend.
If Jane hates Sarah, and Sarah and Clementine are alike, at least a little bit…does that mean Jane hates Clementine, too?
“I’m sorry,” Jane tells her, after Sarah’s screams stop and all Clem can hear from below is the wet sounds of feasting on flesh. “I tried to save her, I really did, I know she was your friend…I tried to save her, Clementine.”
And Clem knows that she lies.
– – –
The first time she ever holds AJ in her arms, he stops his fussing and stares up at her with such innocent, big brown eyes that Clem nearly chokes on her own tongue right then and there. She passes him back to Rebecca and wonders what the hell a look like that is supposed to mean, from a new-born baby who’ll never know the way things used to be before the dead started walking.
At Wellington, alone in their room, he is all she has. Jane is dead, Kenny left them behind to stay safe. AJ doesn’t talk yet. He barely even gurgles. All he seems to do is cry - when he’s hungry, when he needs his diaper changed, when he’s tired and he can’t fall asleep. Clem stays up with him in the night, loses her own sleep to make sure he gets his. She shushes him and rocks him in her arms and hums him little songs until those brown eyes flutter shut and he finally drifts off to bed.
She’s exhausted, and she’s almost as lonely as she was before. She looks down at the baby in her arms and feels…nothing. Nothing except for the guilt, and that she can’t do anything about.
Then one night, AJ hands her a doodle, balled up and crumpled in his meaty little fist. It’s nothing more than a few scribbles, mixtures of yellow and green crayon that blend to make a muddy brown. The colors of the leaves right at the end of summertime. He doesn’t make a sound as he gives it to her, but when she takes it in her hands, she knows it’s hers and hers alone.
“Thank you,” she tells him, softly, feeling more vulnerable than she has in months, and her tears catch in his tiny curls as she presses the first of many, many kisses to her goofball’s forehead.

Hi! I would love to request a reaction type fic for s2 of twdg. The summary is that the s2 gang react to Clementine killing Carver. She would kill him exactly how Kenny did. Thanks!
okay SO I wrote a request based on Clementine killing Carver but NOT how Kenny did it, but I can't find the request, so instead of just deleting it ima post it here. I can easily write the bat-beating one too (wow that sounds horrible out of context)
these are gonna be long so read under the cut : )
Luke: The ring of the gunshot hung in the air, and for a moment Luke thought everything was in slow-motion. All he could see as he turned around was Clementine, the gun aimed directly at Carver, her finger already pressed on the trigger. She shot him in the knee, wounding him instead of killing him. Carver hit the ground and cursed, attempting to crawl, seething as he started toward the child. “Clem!” Luke yelled, jumping for her. Another shot, right through Carver’s forehead. Luke got to her initially to push her behind him and instead pulled her into his arms. He could feel her shaking as she dropped the gun, weakly gripping his shirt. “He was going to--” “You’re okay, it’s okay.” He hushed, one hand on her back and the other on the back of her head, soothing her, or at least attempting to.
Nick: Nick closed her eyes, his stomach leaping into his throat. As much as he had his fair share of issues with Kenny, this was beyond cruel. This was crippling. Debilitating. Just as he was ready to turn away, despite whatever consequence was to recieve from Carver as punishment for doing so, he heard a pop. A loud pop. Cautiously, as if he was afraid to see what was happening, he turned around and spotted Clementine, her gun lowered, and a bleeding Carver collapsed on the ground in front of her. A pool of crimson began to spread around his head. Clementine turned, and the first person she spotted was Nick. Her eyes were pleading for reassurance. For something. For anything. “I had to.” She said softly. Nick could barely hear her over the shocked ringing in his ears. Nick could only nod. His lack of reassurance caused her eyes to well up. “I had to. He was going to kill him.” “I know,” Nick said, starting forwards toward her, not knowing what else to do. Feeling useless, he placed a hand on her shoulder, rubbing it in circles as she cried. He was horrible at this type of thing but at a loss for words. Clementine had really done that for all of them, not just Kenny. “You did the right thing.” Was all he could think to say, even if it didn’t make Clem feel much better.
Carlos: Carlos could feel himself fighting back a scowl, not wanting Carver to turn around and witness his disdain. He knew, if that happened, he wasn’t the one that would suffer. Carlos could guarantee that Carver would go after Sarah. Just to torture him more so than her. Every fiber of Carlos’ being was to protect Sarah. He couldn’t risk anything. Luckily, he didn’t have to. Just as he was going to turn around, ushering Sarah somewhere else as to avoid the violence. A loud POP caused him to jump. He flipped around, only to see Carver stumble on his feet, a hole directly sent through his forehead. After a brief moment of stumbling, he fell back onto the floor, eyes lifeless and limbs limp. Carlos turned, eyes wide in horror at what he was seeing. Clementine, holding a gun, stared at Carver’s lifeless body on the floor. She slowly lowered her aim, then scanned the room, finally settling her gaze on Carlos. Currently, he was the only one willing to look at her and not the bloody bodies on the floor. Carlos only nodded, as though trying to reassure her. He was mortified that she believed that was the best solution, but he knew she did what she could at the time. Kenny and Clem had a history. She couldn’t let him go. “It’s okay.” He mouthed to her, watching how her shaking hands set the gun on the ground.
Sarah: Sarah was cowering behind her father’s legs, unable to stomach the sight. She could barely stand the sound of the radio cracking against Kenny’s face. Then, suddenly, BANG! Silence. Just as Sarah began to peak, Carlos lower his hand. “Sarah, do--” Before he could stop her, Sarah saw everything. The bloody heap that was Carver on the floor. Kenny, stunned, bleeding profusely from his right eye, Sarita weeping as she started for him. And she saw Clementine, lowering the gun she clutched with both of her hands. Clem turned to her, eyes wide and traumatized. “I,” she started, shaking her head, as though she wasn't aware of what had just happened. “I had no choice.” Sarah stared back at her, eyes wide and stunned, but had no way to respond. She didn’t know Clementine was capable of such things. She didn’t know how to feel. Most importantly, she didn’t know what to do. She didn’t know what any of them were going to do.
Rebecca: Rebecca practically leaped out of her skin when she heard the gunshot go off. He was facing Carver, watching as his face twisted in pure enjoyment as he pummelled Kenny to the ground. But when the bang went off, she saw a shot of blood from his forehead and then watched him collapse in a heap. Her jaw dropped and, glancing past the bloody mess on the floor, she saw Clementine, lowering the arm that wielded the gun. Her breathing was ragged and terrified, even if she tried to downplay it for the group. It was moments like these that Rebecca remembered she was still a child, just attempting to seem strong for a group that she was trying to prove herself to. “He wouldn’t stop,” Clementine said, staring dead ahead at Rebecca as she spoke. “There was no other way.” Rebecca pressed her lips together and nodded, eyes soft and empathetic. “I know.” She said, gently. “You’re right.” Clementine lowered her gaze and dropped the gun to the floor, showcasing how deeply her hands were shaking. Rebecca walked forward without a second thought, kneeling in front of her and blocking her view from the body in front of her. Carefully, Rebecca took one of the child’s shaking hands in hers. “You did the right thing. You saved Kenny. And us.” Clementine nodded, but Rebecca could tell through her gaze that she didn’t believe it. She was petrified.
Alvin: Alvin closed her eyes and held his breath. With every crack of the radio against Kenny’s face, he flinched. If he could, if he knew it wouldn’t jeopardize the safety of his wife or future child, he would’ve body-tackled Carver right then and there, beating him to the bloody pulp that he deserves to be. Just as he was about to open his eyes - to see if Carver was almost done - there was a loud BANG! His eyes snapped open without a second thought. It was just in time to see Carver crumple over, only missing landing on Kenny thanks to Kenny kicking him out of the way. Kenny groaned and attempted to sit upright, Sarita a wreck as she rushed to his side, attempting to assess the damage, then desperately waving Carlos over. All Alvin could look at was Clementine, lowering her gun, but still clutching it between her shaking hands. Alvin was one of the first members of the cabin crew to believe Clementine was genuinely good and deserved a chance. The moment Clementine stared at him, she could her chest ache. She hoped she hadn’t lost that trust. Alvin nodded, giving her a sad smile, then open his hands to her. Clementine set the gun on the ground and darted for him. Alvin knelt down, wrapping her in a hug, holding her close as she shook from fear in his arms. “You did the right thing.” He assured her, holding her close, trying to keep her as calm as possible.
Kenny: Kenny was on the ground in utter agony. He could only pray that the beating was over and done with soon. At least then he would be blind or dead. Given how brutal the attack was, Kenny was beginning to hope for the latter. Just as he was attempting to speak - to yell, or plead, or do anything - he heard a loud pop. Then, he felt something warm on his forehead. When he opened his remaining good eye, it was Carver, a drop of his blood landing on Kenny, before he collapsed and crumpled on the floor beside him. He scrambled to a sitting position, making direct eye contact with Clementine, holding the gun. Her eyes were wide in terror. Before Kenny could speak, Sarita was at his side, attempting to assess the damage his eye had sustained. “It’s okay, Clem.” He reassured. “You did good. You did the right thing.” He called to her, as she seemed too frozen in fear to move. It wasn’t until he waved her close did she abandon the gun and rushed into his open arm, clutching him tightly and desperately. She couldn’t lose him too.
Sarita: Sarita could see Carver start for Kenny, and her gut twisted. Just as she started for her partner, ready to defend him however she needed, she heard a loud pop. She ducked instinctively, flipping around to see where the bullet had come from, and spotted Clementine, hands steady but eyes wavering, holding the smoking gun between both of her small hands. She didn’t move, merely maintained her aim as Carver collapsed, waiting to ensure he was dead. “Clementine?” Sarita managed out, voice shaking. Clementine’s eyes snapped to her, her hands slowly beginning to shake. “I couldn’t let him keep hurting him.” Her voice sounded fragile and terrified. Only then was Sarita reminded that Clementine, despite her bravery in their world, was still a child. “Oh, Clementine,” her heart was breaking in a slew of ways. Clementine just set the gun on the ground, fingers shaking and eyes watering, before slowly backing up and away. She couldn't make eye contact with anyone. Instead, Sarita drew closer, kneeling down, and giving her a gentle hug. She could feel Clementine’s silent tears.
Bonnie: Bonnie could feel her heart crash into her stomach at the sight before her, but she didn’t have the strength to fight it. Her stomach clenched with every punch Carver laid onto Kenny. She closed her eyes, wanting to turn away, but knowing she too would be punished if she did. Suddenly, BANG! Bonnie’s eyes shot open to see Carver crumple to the ground. She felt as though her legs would buckle out from underneath her as she turned around, spotting Clementine. Her eyes were wide, as if she was also stunned as to what she had just done, and dropped the gun to the ground. “I--” She cut herself off, staring at her hands, then her eyes darted around the room in a panic. “I couldn’t let him keep going.” She said, pleading with Bonnie. Without thinking, as though she was on auto-pilot, she knelt forward and hushed Clementine, holding her shaking hands. “It’s okay, you did the right thing.” Urgently, as though looking for backup, she turned to Luke, eyeing him nervously, hoping he would come through to comfort the child as well.

If Duck and/or Sarah lived to season four with Clementine, I would love to see it. But the Ericsson kids would struggle so bad to cater for four extra people 💀. But IDC… I just miss those two so much. 😣

If you could make one major change to TWDG, in anything from a character death to an important plot event, what would you change, and what would you have preferred to happen in place of that?
Ough, there is SO MUCH stuff I would change in the games, but for the sake of this ask I would change what happened with Sarah, because her getting no development and dying the way she did was just such a middle finger to fans who went out of their way to try and save her. It’s such wasted potential.
I would have her learning how to use a gun actually become important in later episodes. But it could also have unintended consequences.
Like maybe, because Sarah is so new to this and untrained with handling a gun, she ends up shooting and hurting someone by mistake (maybe she’s the one who shoots Matthew on the bridge instead of Nick 😲) which leads to further conflict with Carlos and he gets super pissed off because how dare Clementine teach Sarah how to use a gun behind his back?
It would also be a good parallel to how Clementine was a bit careless with her gun in the beginning of the season, and because of that Omid was killed.
If you saved her at the trailer park, then she would stay inside the observation area and out of the line of fire, preventing her from falling when the deck gets dropped. Using some of the medical knowledge she picked up from Carlos, she could try to help Rebecca while she’s having the baby.
She would slowly get better at using a gun, especially after Carlos death and Clem’s whole speech about how they can’t be kids anymore. By the time they get to the lake, she becomes a pretty good shot, keeping the walkers off of Luke with Bonnie while Clem attempts to help pull him out of the lake. And maybe, because Sarah is there to provide additional cover, you can determinately save Luke. But only if you saved Sarah in the trailer park.
The idea is that the game would kinda reward you for saving her, kinda like how S1 rewards you for saving Ben by giving us that awesome verbal smackdown he gives to Kenny, and Kenny’s “death” scene.

Christa doesn’t count.
There’s so many damn characters so I tried to filter some out. Uncle Pete doesn’t last long enough and Carver is the literal antagonist so no.

Here's another one: Using any character from TWDG, make three teams of five for survival:
Team 1: The Best Possible Team
Team 2: The Most Incompetent Team
Team 3: The Most Dysfunctional Team
Lee, Javier, Clem, Luke, AJ
2. Gabe, Sarah, Ben, Marlon, Becca
3. Kenny, Lilly, Nick, David, Mitch
