A/N: Happy Valentines Day to you all! Enjoy some Densi.
***
We’ll Make Our Own Fun
“That was fun,” Kensi said, glancing at Rosa briefly as she turned onto Roberta’s street.
“Yes, thank you for coming with me.” Rosa held up her hand, examining her fingernails, currently adorned with a pink and white striped design. “I feel very fancy.”
“Good. I’m glad you enjoyed your first manicure.” She parked in front of Roberta’s house, which was completely lit from inside. “I can’t remember the last time I got one. Maybe our wedding.”
“Well, now you’re all ready for Valentine’s Day,” Rosa told her cheerfully.
Kensi snorted. “Yeah, Deeks and I have never had the best luck when it comes to celebrating holidays. Caleb and Sophia won’t exactly increase the romance.” She held up a finger, even though Rosa hadn’t looked ready to object. “Not that I would change anything.”
“I’m sure you’ll find a way to enjoy the evening.” Smiling, Rosa opened the passenger door. “Oh, Roberta asked me to help her move some boxes, so I might not be home before Steven picks me up.”
“Ok, well have fun, be safe, and tell Steven we say hi. Call if you need anything,” Kensi said, leaning over to give Rosa a hug.
“I will.”
Out of habit, Kensi waited until Rosa was actually inside before pulling out of the driveway. It took approximately a minute to drive to their house, which was about 20 seconds longer than Roberta on foot thanks to her various shortcuts.
She came in through the back door, and the first thing she registered was the relative quiet. The second was the scent of rich spices permeating the air.
“Deeks,” Kensi called out, slowly walking from the kitchen into the dining room. She stilled just inside the entrance, her mouth dropping open slightly as she took in the candle lit room, table set with their finest dishes, Deeks standing to the side. “Deeks,” she repeated more softly.
“Surprise,” he said, crossing over to her. He took her hands, gently drawing her towards the table.
“What is all this?” It was fairly obvious, but Kensi felt vaguely stupid right now. She’d anticipated walking in to the twins needing something, not a romantic dinner.
“Your Valentine’s present.”
“I thought the spa session was my present,” Kensi said, narrowing her eyes as a suspicion began to build.
“The manicure was just a ploy to get you out of the house for a couple hours,” Deeks explained. “Rosa was extremely happy and eager to assist.”
Kensi recalled Rosa checking her phone periodically throughout their nail appointment. She’d assumed she was testing Steven, or a friend, but she’d likely been giving Deeks updates.
“Rosa’s interference aside, how did you have time to decorate and cook a meal in two and a half hours?”
“Well, mom watched the oven a couple of times when the twins needed something.”
“Baby, this is amazing. I can’t believe you planned all this for me,” Kensi murmured, wrapping her arms around him, and laying her cheek on his chest. She stayed there for a few moments, then tipped her head back to kiss him.
“I figured we deserved to celebrate for once. Especially with how crazy the last year has been,” he said. Squeezing her tightly for a few seconds, he slid his hands down to hers, guiding her to the table.
He lifted the lid off Kensi’s plate with a flourish. “For my lady bird, we have authentic carnitas—or as close as I could get it with Rosa’s help—with a side of refried beans, and as much guacamole as your heart desires,” Deeks declared, gesturing to the large plate.
Kensi’s mouth watered as she stared at the perfect looking tacos. She licked her bottom lip, considering the food, then Deeks for a moment. He was wearing her favorite shirt and pants; the ones that seemed to drive all sane thought from her head.
“Where are Caleb and Sophia?” she asked, dropping her voice as though they might hear her.
“Sleeping. I got them down about 20 minutes ago.”
“Good.” She took his hand, dragging him away from the table.
“Woah, Kens, don’t you want to eat?” he asked, sounding completely confused. She paused, turning to face him.
“I do. It look absolutely phenomenal baby, but Rosa is out for the next few hours, the twins are sleeping, and…I’d like to take advantage of this unforeseen opportunity.” She dropped her eyes to travel down Deeks’ body, straightening his collar.
He fixed her with one eye, his mouth open in an incredulous laugh. “Kensi, you’re not…are you sure that’s a good idea this soon?”
Sighing, Kensi pressed her forehead against his cheek. It just made her want him even more. “Ok, maybe we shouldn’t have sex just yet, but I’m sure we can find something fun to do. Unless you don’t want to.”
Deeks chuckled, shaking his head to deny the suggestion. Pulling her closer, he cradled her cheeks, kissing her deeply enough that Kensi’s entire body felt like it might combust. “The food can wait,” he decided, when he pulled away.

How to prepare Yoshi carnitas & Barbacoa
Most importantly make sure you have everything prepped for your barbacoa fire and coals leaves and the dirt pit for cooking! Along with the tarp
Then you should make sure your Yoshi is cleanly gutted along with the eyes and their shoes removed they should be completely skinned except for the fat on their nose.
First remove the bulbous nose making sure to keep it set aside as the fat inside of it is delicious and will be used to cook your carnitas.
Then break apart your Yoshi as describe below.
Lay and Yoshi flat on its stomach using your cleaver to give a firm chop right under where their spikes end and set aside the head.
Then spread your Yoshi's arms apart pulling on it away from the joint making sure it its in an unnatural angle it will make chopping it off easier! Gently score the skin and flesh until you can see the joint then chop down again in a smooth motion make sure cleaver is sharp to make this process easier. Once both arms are removed set aside
Next it's time for the legs use butcher twine to tie them together near the ankle then flip your Yoshi onto its side scoring a guidance line from its chest down to it tail proceed to flip back on its stomach
How do I remove the shell?
Removing the shell is quite simple all you need simply is a knife and a small mallet use the knife to wedge it in between the Yoshi shell and back use your mallet to force the knife deeper pull it back out and start again a few centimeters apart continue this until you loosen the shell all around if done correctly you should be able to use your butcher's cleaver to slip between the now loosen shell and pop it off
Now for the body
To make cooking the body easier separated into halves using the guidance line made earlier now that then chop remove the ribs and meat from the pelvis from one half you'll be using this meat for your carnitas refrigerate that and take the rest of the carcass outside to prepare your Barbacoa
Preparing the Barbacoa
You can use either aloe vera leaves or palm tree leaves
If using the former mentioned cactus make sure to remove the outward spines this can be done with a small knife simply cutting them off, then char each aloe vera leaf until an olive green with decent char marks.
Make sure your pit in the ground ready filling the bottom with coals and then putting the leaves and then even they are on the bottom and walls of the pit then put your bruchered Yoshi into the it along with the head then fold the aloe vera leaves inside of itself making sure the fully cover the body then put your tarp then put a bunch of hot coals on top
Simply leave the Yoshi's body to cook slowly in the ground while making sure to replenish the coals constantly. This dish needs a minimum 8 hours slow cooking in the ground it seems like a lot of time but it would be worth it.
Preparing the carnitas
Put the large cooking vessel of the choice on the open flame along with the fat of Yoshi's nose and extra if needed.
While that is heating up and melting on the stove you can now finish butchering your yoshi
Set the ribs so they are vertical and put a long knife that can curve against the meat as close to the ribs as possible cut away in a smooth movements as to not damage any of the precious meat until the meat is completely removed from the rib bones
Now you can chop the meat into medium size squares or smaller if that is your preference.
Now simply cook until the outside is golden brown yoshi meat can be eaten rare, medium rare, medium well or well done. Simply remove a peace and cut into to see if it's done to your preferred wellness.
And then simply serve with sides of your choice

Wow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow. What a day it has been and we are still just in Tokyo! So many things have happened and we still have a 6 hr flight to get to Bangkok. Let's start at the beginning. First flight is Denver to LA. The flight is short and sweet, an easy 2.5 hrs on the smallest plane I've ever been on. The seats were sets of two rather than three so I got to have a window seat for once!!! I'm normally always stuck in the middle seat because Scott is too broad to sit in the middle and we want to sit together, so having a window was a special treat. Easy peasy. AND THEN.... I'm walking off the tarmac and the SECOND I get through the doors into the airport I look at Scott and I say, "I fucked up." He replied, "What??!!" with pure panic in his eyes. 😂 "I forgot my laptop." I had left my laptop under the seat in front of me. 🙃 Scott just shakes his head at me lol. The lady at the counter heard me and she said to not worry and just wait there, asked me for my seat number and went and got it for me. That was just the first scare.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^Flying over the Grand Canyon 😍
Now we are in LA with a 5.5 hr layover (not by choice, our flights were changed 10 times)... sooo we decided to leave the airport and go see the beach/grab some food. The closest nicest beach was chose was Manhattan Beach. We've driven by it on past trips but never actually stopped there. By the time we got there it was already dark out, which meant we had the beach to ourselves. We took off our shoes and took a short stroll, just to feel the ocean on our skin. 😊 I love the beach at night, it's so peaceful with no one around. Then it was time to eat. Scott had been mentioning wanting tacos on the plane over so I googled best tacos near me and a restaurant named Tacolicious popped it. It looked pretty good, so we decided to end our stroll and go clean off our feet on the boardwalk to get our shoes back on. We sit down for a moment, I switch shoes to flip flops for the time being till all the sand falls off. As I make room in my bag for my sneakers, I take out my wallet and lay it down, thinking in my head, "I'll just carry this since I'm about to use it at dinner." We pack up all our stuff, and walk the 4 blocks over to the restaurant. We check out he other ones along the way but this one def had the best vibes. We grab an indoor/outdoor table. It's a little chilly out but they have a great heater on that's not too hot. Perfect. The SECOND the server comes over and asks us what we want to eat, I panic. I realize I am NOT in fact carrying my wallet. 😳🤯😳 Scott is laughing and making small talk with the server, talking about different kinds of margaritas, and I'm in full blown panic mode, just waiting for her to go away so I can share my panic with Scott. She finally walks away after what felt like years, and I say to him, "You're gonna hate me...". He once again just goes blank staring at me. I say, "I think I left my wallet at the beach." He FREAKS out and stands up, about to go through all of the bags to make sure. I say I'm gonna go look! I start walking back, briskly. I have a good feeling its still there because it was super dark out and there was no one around at all. If I left it there it was left near some bushes, so it would be unlikely for someone to see it. I walking and walking, with Scott on the phone because he had to stay back to watch our stuff. I hop over the side of the pathway and walk down to where we put our shoes on and THERE IT IS...... SHEWWWWWW. That would've been really terrible. Scott breathes a massive sigh of relief and orders us tequila shots. 😂
Tumblr media
Now that I have almost lost a SECOND extremely important thing, we are ready to shake it off and enjoy some tacos. Also Scott takes my wallet and says he's carrying it for the rest of the trip. 🙈 Very fair. Back to Tacolicious. We ordered an array of tacos including mushroom carnitas, shrimp, "vampire" tacos, fried cod and more. Tacolicious is named appropriately! They were DELICIOUS! Absolutely would go back and get it again, and we never say that. So if you're in LA, near Manhattan beach, give them a whirl.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*Side note - This is the first time either of us has ever had a long enough layover to leave the airport. If you find yourself with a long layover and can find something to make it worth your while, do it. It breaks up the monotony of the airport vibes and you can get way better food/do different things for way cheaper.
Now it's back to the airport. It is starting to really feel real. We are going to TOKYO! 🇯🇵 But first, we must somehow get through this 12 hr flight. We paid extra for the premium economy seats. Absolutely would recommend. The extra legroom and being closer to the front really did make a difference for us. The worst part? We were next to 3 different screaming children. When I say screaming, I mean screeching. I can have sympathy for most parents, I can only imagine how hard that would be, but this children were on another level. There was maybe 2 hours of the entire 12 hr flight that there wasn't one or more than one screaming at the top of their lungs. It was taxing on everyone around us. We honestly started to worry for the childrens health. Like their poor throats?? Sheeeshh. We slept in small bursts but for the most part we were up. The tv/music/game selection was pretty good. A 12 hr flight I think is always going to be difficult no matter how you swing it.
Tumblr media
Eventually we made it. Walking out of the plane felt surreal. I didn't feel like we were actually there. Our plan for our 6.5 hr layover was to visit a nearby hot springs or "onsen." We figured that was plenty of time for a 15 minute taxi and an hour or two of soaking. We really wanted to be refreshed for the final 6 hr journey. In order to leave the airport in a foreign country you have to go through customs. I knew that, but I was blissfully unaware of how long and slow the Tokyo customs line would be. It took over 1.5 hrs to get through. Probably had to scan our passport at least 6 different times, and it was soooo HOT. 🥵 The outside temp was chilly, it was just the massive quantity of people all squished in the maze of a line that made it pretty unbearable. Once we finalllyyy got through we basically had run out of time to feel comfortable enough leaving the airport. I was pretty disappointed for a moment, but I saw a large sign hanging in the arrivals gates that said "Haneda airport garden." It intrigued me, so we decided to follow that path.. how bad could it be? We walked a little further and I saw a sign that said "Spa" and "Hot Springs." We both got so excited!! HOT SPRINGS?? IN THE AIRPORT???? It's gotta be like at least $200/person right? We figured we'd try it anyway, we got time to kill. Guys.. it was $37. THIRTY SEVEN. For as long as you like.. you can stay there all day.. Multiple pools, some indoor, some outdoor, all looking over the Tokyo skyline with beautiful Mt. Fuji in the background. ALL kinds of spa/bathing facilities, herbal saunas, some hot stone rooms with different types of stones. Rock salt stones, lava stones, and a cooling room for when you wanted to cool off. There was a "relaxation room" that was dark and peaceful and had the comfiest chairs to sleep on and blankets. I'm telling you all.. this place was HEAVEN. So serene. The most unique part about it was it was a Japanese traditional onsen, rather than a Western hot spring like we know them to be. Here, you had to wear certain outfits in certain spaces, and the soaking pools were segregated into women's and men's because you are required to be totally nude! That may sound weird to some, but after a minute or two you get used to it and it just feels natural. Embrace the culture, right?! It truly was the best experience. I am so sad when we fly back we are connecting in a different airport and we won't get to experience that again. Absolute number one BEST way to get through a layover. 100 stars. 10 out of 10. They even have a restaurant, and the food was delicious. The friendliest staff. Neither one of us can wait to go back. If you get the chance, you absolutely must do this. Please... for me...
*Side note - there is a rule of No Tattoos in all Japanese onsens, as they associate tattoos with gangs. Some, from what I've found, including this one, are flexible where you can purchase thin, basically skin colored bandages, and cover your tattoos, as long as they aren't too large. The coverings are cheap and easy to apply and covered a decent amount of surface area.
**No pics are allowed in the onsen, so I won't be able to share it's beauty with you.. You'll just have to go see for yourself. 😉
Alright. Final leg of the trip. 6 more hours to go. This time we are flying on Japan Airways, rather than American Airlines. I was a bit nervous because we didn't get any sort of upgrade on our seats, and we were pretty far back. Honestly these are the most spacious seats we've ever had in a plane. The legroom feels like the same amount that we paid extra for on the last plane, the ceilings are taller which makes the overall space feel bigger, and the seats are wider. No complaints. I mean my butt is DEFINITELY complaining as we speak, but I'm chalking that up to this being the final hours of our 34 hr long journey. I was still pretty full from the onsen breakfast, so when they came around offering us a meal on this flight I was going to pass, until I saw how cute and elaborate it was. It was like a 7 course meal, including multiple kinds of tea, miso soup, choice of entree, 3 sides, and they even topped it off with some Haggan Dass ice cream. They gave us REAL silverware.. like what?? On an airplane? I loved it. Thanks Japan Airways!
Tumblr media
We are currently 2 hrs and 46 mins away from FINALLY being in Thailand. The last 2 hours of the previous flight were the most torturous, and these are shaping up to be as well. But what a journey it has been so far, and it has just begun. There is soooo much more we are going to see and do, and sooo many more stories to come!! I can't wait. Tonight, we check into our hotel and the plan is to RECOVER and RELAX. We'll be heading to Chinatown for dinner to see the last bits of the Lunar New Year celebrations.🏮🥡 I'm sure the food will be bomb, as will many other meals while we are here.
Thank you to anyone who chooses to follow along with us and read these crazy posts. Scott and I are grateful for all the love and support we have throughout this trip. I, in particular, am just so grateful to have my babe by my side for all of it, good and bad. I can't guarantee how often I'll post, but I want to remember as many small details as I possibly can, so stay tuned! I'll do my best! 😍
Next stop - BANGKOK! 🇹🇭

Chapter 2: Dust and Ashes

- 5 Years Ago -
The streets of Natlan were hot and suffocating. The concrete jungle surrounded Diluc on all sides, and he shed his long sleeve, shoving it into the black duffel bag slung across his shoulder. His winter clothes weren’t doing him much good there, and he regretted not bringing anything lighter to wear. He really didn’t enjoy walking around in just a tank top, but it wasn’t like he had any other option, really.
He walked along a busy street, cars zipping by with a quiet hum. The pavement was searing hot; the black spots littering the sidewalk were a testament to the many rubber soles that had been eaten over time. Diluc looked down in distaste. It’d be a pity to have to get rid of his favorite boots.
Picking up the pace, Diluc made his way to a nearby restaurant, ready to take a rest after a long week of hunting criminals working with the Abyss. Sometimes he really hated doing this. Not that he regretted leaving Mondstadt, not when his traitor of a brother was still living there. But that was beside the point.
The restaurant was small, run by a local family who had been very welcoming to Diluc during his stay in Natlan. The food was absolutely to die for; Diluc was dreading the day he left if only because he wouldn’t be able to have any more of their food.
Diluc took a seat in the corner of the room, and though it was probably rude of him to be taking up a whole booth, he couldn’t bring himself to care all that much. His usual order was placed in front of him—a plate of three sopes, topped with refried beans, carnitas, and some queso fresco. It was different from what he would normally eat back in Mondstadt, but he found that he enjoyed it all the same.
“You know, you really should try something new every once in a while!” His usual waitress, who was one of the owners’ daughters, flashed him a teasing grin, hands on her hips.
“I’ll keep that in mind, Camila,” Diluc laughed, waving her away. She shook her head but bounced away to take another customer’s order.
He sighed, feeling the warmth of the food chasing the tension out of his body. He let himself indulge in the meal, eyes closed. It wasn’t often that Diluc found himself relaxing like this— at least, not since his father died. These days, it seemed like relaxation was nothing more than an old friend he saw once in a blue moon. It wasn’t the best lifestyle; Diluc was sure his dad would force him to rest were he still here. But such is life.
Diluc finished his meal in comfortable silence. Golden sunlight poured through the large windows at the front of the space, the specks of dust floating in the air looking more like embers drifting by. Fitting, he thought, for a nation as obsessed with fire as Natlan.
“So, what’s a guy like you doing in a place like this?” Your voice melts the silence, and for a second, Diluc mourns the loss of his peaceful moment. You set down a plate piled high with food as if you were going to join him for a meal.
“Who are you?” He asked, not unkindly.
You smiled and leaned back, getting comfortable. “I guess I should introduce myself.” You gave him your name, and he instantly stiffened. “Though, most people just call me Shade.”
He knew who you were.
Whether you noticed his anxiety or not, you continued talking, picking at your food. “I’ll be honest; I’ve been keeping tabs on you, Diluc Ragnvindr.”
That made his heart drop to his stomach. His hand instantly reached for his bag, his handgun sitting neatly on top of his things, but you just snickered to yourself.
“Calm down. I’m not here to hurt you.” Your hands came up in mock surrender, but he didn't let his guard down.
“I know you.” Diluc made eye contact with you, and your gaze burned. “You’re a Fatui Harbinger.”
“What an astute observation, Mr. Ragnvindr! Your intelligence knows no bounds, truly.” You rolled your eyes, and for some reason, that sparked annoyance in Diluc. How could you be so flippant about something like that? The Fatui were no better than most criminals; their forceful “diplomacy” was nothing more than a thinly veiled threat to the other districts from the Tsaritsa herself.
“What do you want? I doubt you want to talk to me just for fun,” he said, gritting his teeth.
“Before I tell you that, I should clarify something,” you began. “I’m no longer a Harbinger. In fact, I haven’t been one for… oh, about four months now.” You reached into your pocket, and Diluc froze before realizing you were only pulling out your phone. “Relax. If I wanted to kill you, you’d be dead already.” That didn’t exactly make him less nervous, but he supposed you had a point. He wasn’t inclined to think that he could take on a Harbinger and survive, let alone one as accomplished as you.
“Right.”
“Anyways,” you nodded, pulling up a picture on your phone, “I think you have potential. You’re strong, if not a bit sloppy. But that’s something that can be fixed.” The picture you showed him was from two weeks ago when he was fighting some Abyss lackeys. It was a surprisingly good photo of him, his greatsword burning a bright red, lighting his face in a blazing glow.
He took the phone gently, brows furrowed. The Diluc staring back at him was so different from what he saw in his head. It was strange. “Why aren’t you a Harbinger anymore? You were one of the best they had,” he questioned, handing the device back.
You didn’t answer; you just looked at him with your ever-burning stare. “I grew up there, in the Fatui.” Your eyes shifted away from him, and he realized that you were uncomfortable. “It wasn’t all sunshine and roses; they’re a military organization first and foremost. They took me in as a kid. I don’t know where my parents are—assuming they’re even still alive.” You paused, but Diluc didn’t dare interrupt. “I spent my whole life thinking I was doing the right thing, y’know? That the Tsaritsa’s will was the only thing that mattered; she just wanted the best for the rest of Teyvat.” Your face twisted into some ugly thing, your obvious distaste for the Archon showing plainly. “She hurts people. She has some ‘grand design’ that we all bought into at some point, but at the end of the day, all we’ve done is hurt people. And yeah,” you waved a hand, “some of the Harbingers like hurting people. But I’m over it. I want something different for myself, and I wasn’t going to find it by being the Tsaritsa’s lapdog.” You ended your spiel with a huff, and Diluc was stunned.
He hadn’t expected you to be so… human.
“I still don’t trust you,” he stated, ignoring how you raised your brow at him. “I have no way of knowing if you’re telling the truth,” you went to interrupt, but he plowed on, “but, if you are telling the truth, then… I’m glad you got out. It sounds like you had a shitty childhood.”
You snorted, shaking your head in what might’ve been something akin to fondness. “You’re a good kid, Diluc. And,” you smiled sadly, “for what it’s worth, I’m sorry about your dad.”
It should have felt insulting coming from you. The Fatui were the reason his dad was lying six feet under the ground, instead of making him listen to some old song that Diluc really couldn’t care less about. The Fatui were the reason his family fell apart.
But the Fatui were also the reason you didn’t have a family to lose in the first place.
He whispered his thanks, the words bitter ash in his mouth.
Your first impression of Diluc was that he was sad.
He was like a bonfire that’d been doused in sand. Something in him had been snuffed out. The warmth of the flame was long forgotten to the grit of sand, passion and light lost to the weight of grief and darkness.
You knew well that the fire could be brought back. Would it ever be the same? No, of course not. Things hardly ever worked that way, and this was no exception. But nevertheless, you thought that maybe this kid would be alright.
“So, will you let me help you?” You extended a hand across the table.
A firm grip met yours. “Sure, why the hell not.”
Like a phoenix rising up out of the ashes, Diluc would be just fine.

Whether you're savoring a warm, freshly baked bolillo roll or using it as a base for creative fillings and toppings, this beloved Mexican bread bolillo adds a delightful taste and texture to any meal.
The History and Significance of Bolillo Bread in Mexican Cuisine
Bolillo bread, with its humble origins dating back to Mexico's colonial era, has become an integral part of the country's culinary heritage. The word "bolillo" translates to "small loaf" in Spanish, and its name perfectly describes its shape—a slightly elongated, oval roll with a crusty exterior and a soft, airy interior. Bolillo bread is believed to have been inspired by French baguettes brought to Mexico by French immigrants in the 19th century. Over time, it adapted to suit the local palate and became a beloved bread in Mexican cuisine. Bolillo bread plays a vital role in many traditional Mexican dishes, such as tortas (Mexican sandwiches), molletes (toasted bread topped with beans and cheese), and tacos de carnitas (pulled pork tacos). Its versatility and ability to complement various flavors make it a staple in Mexican households and restaurants alike.
Gathering Everything You Need for Bolillo Bread
To create authentic Bolillo bread, it's crucial to assemble the right ingredients and tools. The main components of Bolillo bread include flour, yeast, water, salt, and a touch of sugar. High-quality bread flour is recommended for its higher protein content, which contributes to the bread's structure and texture. Fresh yeast or active dry yeast can be used as leavening agents to provide the bread with its characteristic rise. Other essential tools include a large mixing bowl, measuring cups and spoons, a kitchen scale (for precise measurements), a dough scraper, and a baking sheet or stone. A stand mixer with a dough hook attachment can facilitate the mixing and kneading process, but kneading by hand is equally effective. With these ingredients and tools at hand, you'll be well-prepared to embark on your Bolillo bread-making journey.
Mixing, Kneading and Shaping the Perfect Bolillo Dough
Achieving the perfect Bolillo dough requires attention to detail and a methodical approach. The process begins by combining the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl and creating a well in the center. Warm water is then added along with the yeast mixture, which may involve activating the yeast in warm water and sugar beforehand. The dough is mixed until it comes together, either by using a stand mixer or by hand. Once the dough is combined, it's time to knead it thoroughly. This step helps develop gluten, which gives the bread its structure and elasticity. The kneading process typically takes about 10-15 minutes, during which the dough should become smooth, soft, and slightly sticky. After kneading, the dough is left to rise in a warm, draft-free area until it doubles in size. Once the dough has risen, it is divided into portions and shaped into the characteristic Bolillo shape—a slightly flattened oval roll with tapered ends. The shaped dough is then left to rise again before proceeding to the baking stage.
Achieving the Ideal Texture and Crust
Proofing and baking are crucial steps in creating the ideal texture and crust for Bolillo bread. After shaping the dough into rolls, they need to undergo a second rise, known as proofing. During this time, the rolls are covered and left in a warm, humid environment to expand further. The duration of proofing can vary depending on factors such as room temperature and the yeast's activity, but it usually takes around 30-60 minutes. Once the rolls have proofed, they are ready to be baked. The key to achieving the characteristic crust of Bolillo bread is steam. Before placing the rolls in the oven, it's essential to create a steamy environment. This can be achieved by either placing a pan of hot water in the oven or spraying the rolls with water during baking. The steam helps create a crisp crust while allowing the bread's interior to remain soft and fluffy. The rolls are baked until they turn golden brown, and tapping the bottom should produce a hollow sound. Once baked, the Bolillo bread should be allowed to cool before serving.
Adding a Mexican Twist to Your Bolillo Bread
While the basic recipe for Bolillo bread remains constant, there are several ways to add an authentic Mexican twist to enhance its flavor. One option is to substitute a portion of the bread flour with cornmeal or masa harina, which infuses the bread with a subtle corn flavor reminiscent of Mexican tortillas. Another option is to incorporate traditional Mexican spices and herbs into the dough, such as ground cumin or dried oregano, to add depth and complexity to the bread's taste. Additionally, brushing the shaped dough with a mixture of egg wash and water before baking can create a glossy, golden crust. For a touch of sweetness, sprinkling a bit of sugar on top of the shaped dough just before baking can provide a delightful contrast to the bread's savory notes. These small tweaks and additions can elevate your Bolillo bread to an authentic Mexican experience.
Exploring Fillings and Toppings for Bolillo Bread
While Bolillo bread is often enjoyed on its own, it also serves as a wonderful vessel for a variety of fillings and toppings. One classic option is to split the Bolillo roll and fill it with ingredients like thinly sliced meats, cheeses, fresh vegetables, and condiments, creating a mouthwatering torta. Other popular fillings include refried beans, avocado, pickled jalapeños, and mayonnaise. For a breakfast twist, try topping Bolillo bread with scrambled eggs, chorizo, or salsa verde. Additionally, Bolillo bread can be transformed into flavorful bruschetta-style appetizers by topping it with ingredients like diced tomatoes, cilantro, cotija cheese, and a drizzle of olive oil. The possibilities for creative variations are endless, allowing you to tailor your Bolillo bread to suit your preferences and experiment with different flavor combinations.
Pairing Bolillo Bread with Classic Mexican Dishes
Bolillo bread's versatility makes it an excellent companion to a wide range of classic Mexican dishes. One iconic pairing is the torta, a hearty Mexican sandwich that typically features layers of meat, cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise, all nestled within a Bolillo roll. The combination of flavors and textures in a torta is a culinary delight that perfectly showcases the versatility of Bolillo bread. Another popular pairing is molletes, which are open-faced Bolillo sandwiches topped with refried beans, melted cheese, and salsa. The beans and cheese become perfectly gooey when heated, while the Bolillo bread provides a sturdy base for this delicious dish. Bolillo bread also pairs well with traditional Mexican soups and stews, such as pozole or birria. The crusty exterior of the bread can be used for dunking into the flavorful broth, while the soft interior absorbs the delicious flavors. Whether enjoyed on its own or used as a vehicle for other dishes, Bolillo bread brings a delightful taste of Mexican tradition to the table.
Conclusion
By understanding the history and significance of Bolillo bread, gathering the essential ingredients and tools, and following the step-by-step guide, you can master the art of creating this beloved bread from scratch. From mixing and kneading the perfect dough to shaping and baking it to perfection, each step is infused with care and attention to detail. By incorporating tips and tricks to add an authentic Mexican twist and exploring creative variations with fillings and toppings, you can personalize your Bolillo bread to suit your taste preferences.

Fat Man Eateth: Go Grab Some Gringos Tacos
Tumblr media
The fat man (yours truly) and my girlfriend were out running errands a few weeks ago when the pangs of lunchtime hunger started rumbling from down in the deep. And when a pregnant woman says “I hunger” in a cute voice, time quickly becomes of the essence. Why? Because that polite declaration of needing to eat can quickly turn into hangry—and no one wants to see hangry. I remembered reading about a food truck serving tacos in the Wheeling area, originally along Washington Ave., but now with a spot out in Elm Grove. So we traveled to Elm Grove, to the location of a former Marathon Gas Station, across the street from Arby's. The lot that day at 2061 National Road? Empty. Was it closed? No, but it forced me to remember one key element—it's a food truck. Food trucks are mobile. The menu at Gringos Tacos is varied, whilst not too daunting. It does feature specials like the carnitas y pineapple salsa, BBQ pulled pork tacos, and sweet potato tacos. So I quickly hopped onto Facebook and visited the page of The Gringos Tacos to see where they were set up that day. Alas, we were in luck. Owner Josh Broverman was camped in the Lowe's parking lot in South Wheeling from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. So to South Wheeling we traveled, both hungry and excited as we made our way up and over I-470 to Lowes. I'd read and heard good things about these street tacos with a gourmet flare and it was finally time to try them ourselves. Gringos Tacos is set up in a little red towable food truck. The menu, while not large, is quite varied and offers something for everyone. It also is subject to change, featuring specials. I felt quite hungry and wanted some variety to gauge just how good these tacos were. I opted to get a Carnitas with Pineapple Salsa and also one of The Gentleman tacos. The gentleman consists of beef, cheddar, queso, guacamole, and pico de gallo. The nearing hangry GF wanted a little more standard with two beef tacos. We placed our order and, seeing as it was a chilly day, went back into the car to wait. Carnitas with pineapple salsa ... so good. The Gentleman, consisting of beef, queso, quac, and pico. The Verdict First off, the staff was incredibly friendly and patient as we took a moment as first timers, deciding what to order. The other folks in line clearly had been here before and knew what they wanted. The wait wasn't long for the food to be ready either. It was well packed so that it didn't lose an ounce of heat or freshness traveling back to the car. Now for the moment of truth. I've had carnitas on several occasions at Mexican and other restaurants around the Ohio Valley, so I opted to try The Gentleman taco first. I love mixing the cooling sensation and flavor of guac with the flavors of still hot beef of the taco. I was right, it didn't disappoint. The flavors meshed incredibly well together. More than pleasantly surprised, I then tried the carnitas with pineapple salsa. Again, not disappointed. The pork was so tender and had the right amount of flavor. As I look over, I see someone enjoying her second beef taco, and signaling her approval with a thumbs up and a mouth full of food. Gringos Tacos can be found in Elm Grove in the lot of the former Marathon station, across from Arby's ... or in other locations throughout the city when it's on the move. Check out the Facebook page to see others and location. More Info: Gringos' Facebook page holds a wealth of information and should be your first stop shop before ordering. It features numerous pictures of the various tacos served at Gringos. It also alerts customers if the truck locale will change from its home in Elm Grove. Gringos Tacos also does larger-scale catering events, and customers can also place orders ahead of time online by messaging the Facebook page via messenger. I look forward to returning and trying something with a bit more heat. The flavor is definitely on point. Now I'm looking forward to something with a little more spice. Read the full article

Tonight (Johnny Tuturro x Female Reader - Graceland)
I started rewatching Graceland and completely forgot that Johnny exits and that I love him. This is just a little one shot (cough* maybe two shot *cough) that I came up with the other night. Just for fun
Suggestive content but mostly fluff in this one. Also, I don't often do reader insert stories so please be gentle with me lol if I missed something that doesn't fit let me know. Only characterizations of reader are she's from Texas and is a Border Patrol agent.
Tumblr media
Tonight
The boardwalk and the pier had been more fun than she had had in a long time. Her cheeks and stomach hurt from laughing so much, she couldn't quit smiling. Johnny had walked the whole pier with her, playing each game, eating sno-cones and pretzels. After they had played all the games Johnny took her to one of his favorite taco stands where they stood in the long line of other beach goers lined up for a midnight snack.
Johnny stood behind her while (Y/N) peaked around the line to take a look at the menu. She leaned back slightly, just enough that she bumped into Johnny, her back coming into the briefest contact with his chest and her hips a mere inch from his. "What should I get?"
He couldn't help himself, when he felt her brush against him he let his hand, just the tips of his fingers, settle on her hips. Johnny held his breath until she leaned back further, brushed back against him again. He let out the breath and bit the inside of his lip, "What sounds good?" He stroked his fingers over the strip of bare skin exposed between her shorts and shirt.
"Honestly all of it." She laughed, loving the feeling of the night and of him so close. "Carnitas maybe?"
"Mhmm, always a good choice." He was feeling brave so he hooked his thumb through the belt loop of her shorts, letting his hand rest fully on her hip. "I was thinking a torta but, they're like," He held his hands up in front of her, an arm on either side of her, to demonstrate, "This big!." Johnny lowered his hands but immediately returned the one to her hip, his thumb hooked back through the belt loop.
(Y/N) leaned back into him, looking over her shoulder, not realizing how close they actually were, "We could always share."
Johnny didn't respond right away, distracted by the same thought, her lips were right there. Her back against his chest, her backside against the zipper of his jeans, his hand on her hip, her fingers toying with the end of her necklace, her lips right there... "Pastor or barbacoa?"
"Barbacoa," She smiled and swayed her weight so they rocked backwards slightly, "I'm feeling brave."
~~~
It was nearly 2am by the time they made it back to her SUV. They were walking slowly, long, hesitant steps until (Y/N) stopped and leaned against the driver side door. Johnny stopped as well, shifting back and forth in front of her. "You good to get back to the hotel?"
"Yeah, yeah. I'll be fine, it's not that long of a drive." She smiled but couldn't quite look him in the eye for more than a few seconds at a time. "I had fun tonight Johnny."
His smile was big and wide, "So did I." He bit his bottom lip and stepped a little closer, "Like a really good time."
"Yeah?" She was smiling too.
"Yeah!" He shuffled his feet, shoved his hands in his pockets, "Yeah like," He looked her in the eyes, still grinning, "Like I'm not ready to go home yet, you know."
(Y/N) felt the heat creep up from her chest to her cheeks, "I uh... yeah uh..." Her nerves doing somersaults she reached out and took a loose hold of Johnny's t-shirt, "I don't want to go home yet either."
When she tugged on his shirt Johnny came willingly, stepping into her space, eyes glued to her fingers twisted in the fabric. He licked his lips before looking up at her, "Yeah?" watching her mimic the action. He kept the little bit of distance between them but hooked his finger in her belt loop once again.
When she nodded he gave an experimental tug of his own and she pushed off from the car and came to stand chest to chest with him, but not quite looking up at him. He took a better hold of her waist with one hand and with the other he picked her chin up. One finger hooked underneath, gently tilting her face up to his and they looked each other in the eye.
Johnny did his best not to break his gaze but couldn't help but look at those lips so close to his again. When his eyes glanced back to hers he found them closed and he watched, felt, as she raised up on her tiptoes and he met her halfway without a second thought.
He leaned down over her, lips together, un-moving at first but he flexed the fingers of his right hand, the grip on her waist, and she took a quick breath before pressing against him harder, kissing him again. He responded, pulling her full bottom lip between his like he'd imagined a thousand times.
They pulled apart, barely, and she didn't open her eyes right away. Johnny's heart pounding in his own chest he could still feel hers racing against it. "What else you wanna do beautiful?"
She laughed, giggled even, "I don't know what else there is to do." Her other hand grabbed more of his t-shirt, as if to say she didn't want him to leave yet. "You could uh..." She swayed on her feet, fiddled with his shirt, "You could kiss me again while I think about it though."
"Oh yeah?" He chuckled but did as she wished, brushing his lips over hers, steadier, more confident this time. "I got something we could do." He pulled back enough to look at her than look away, smirking, "It's kinda cheesy though, so you can't make fun of me."
"Okay." (Y/N) sounded uncertain but hadn't let go of him yet. "What is it?"
"You'll see." He leaned down and kissed her again. "Your ride got four wheel drive?"
~~~
She let Johnny drive. They made one stop at an all night convenience store, she didn't see what was in the bags, and then they followed the coast. Johnny held her hand while he drove and eventually they turned off the highway onto an access road. When the deep black of the ocean came into view he stopped, switched the SUV into four wheel drive and drove onto the sand.
When he parked he shut the vehicle off, "Okay, stay here, don't peak!" He leaned across the console for a kiss and smiled when Sarah happily gave him one.
He got out of the car, doors opened and closed, there was rustling and rummaging. After the noise quit Johnny appeared at her door, opening it, "Okay, ready!"
She took his hand and let him lead her around to the back of the car and she immediately laughed, her stomach full of butterflys. The back of the SUV was open and there was a pile of blankets inside along with a six pack of XX and a bag Sabritones. "Really?" She giggled again, turning to face him.
Johnny looked a little embarrassed but was still smiling, "I told you it was cheesy, but..."
With a shake of her head (Y/N) grabbed his shirt again, "It is cheesy..." She tugged him down for a kiss, " But I kinda like it." She pecked his lips again, coaxing him into it and out of his momentary nerves, "Cuddling in some blankets, cold bear, spicy snacks, the stars... the ocean... with you..." She smiled when his hands settled on her waist.
He ducked his head and kissed her lips, "You sure..." He spoke directly against her mouth but she cut him off.
"I'm sure." (Y/N) closed the tiny gap between them and let out a long deep sigh as they kissed. It was hard for her to pull away but she did, enjoying the way his lips chased after hers, "Come here." She backed up and took a seat on the blankets in the back, smiling at him as he followed after her.
Johnny ducked his head to fit and took the chance to kiss her again, hook his hand under one knee and scoot her up onto the blankets. She laughed again, smiling against his lips as he laid them both down and covered them with one of the woven blankets. They settled together Johnny on his back, head resting on one of (Y/N's) gear bags, her against his side with her head on his shoulder,
She was enjoying letting her hand stroke over the muscles in his stomach, the fabric of his shirt bunching under her fingers occasionally. His breathing was deep and rhythmic, if a little bit quicker than normal. His left arm wrapped around her waist he continued to stroke the bare skin between the waistband of her shorts and hem of her shirt. If they went too long between kisses Johnny would tilt her face up to his, pass his lips over hers until she opened her mouth to him. He would slip his tongue against hers and nip at her lip just to pull back and grin at her and go back to staring out at the ocean in the dark.
"This was a good idea." She whispered into his chest after they had laid there awhile.
Johnny chuckled, rolled his head to the side so his lips brushed against her hair as he spoke, "I have those sometimes."
She snickered with him, snuggling tighter against his side, "It's not quite as good as the gulf but... it's better than the desert."
"Oh, okay miss Tejas I know you didn't just bash on my beach. Don't pretend like Padre can even compare."
"Hey," she poked him in the ribs sharply and pushed up on one elbow to look down at him, "You better watch your mouth or we might have to fight about his."
He was doing his best not to laugh but couldn't hide the smile on his face, "Calmate hermosa, calmate." His eyes were hooded and heavy as he looked her over in the dark, "I ain't lookin' for a fight."
"Mhmm, cuz I'd kick your ass." (Y/N) was grinning too but trying to at least pretend to play it tough.
Johnny licked his lips, "Not even gonna' lie, I'd probably let you."
"Uh huh, you'd 'let' me. I'm sure." She eyed him down, smirking, "Federal agent Johnny Tuturro doesn't seem like a guy that 'lets' someone kick his ass." She poked him in the ribs again, "But he does seem like a guy that gets his ass kicked a lot."
"Oh ho ho, jokes now huh!?" He surges up, a smile on his face, and rolls her to the side, putting her flat on her back, reversing their positions so he was hovering above her, "You're pretty funny huh?"
"Johnny!" She squealed and laughed as he rolled them, her hands locking onto his biceps with the sudden movement.
Johnny paused for a moment his eyes jumping from her face, to her chest rising and falling, to her fingers clasped around his arm. "Can I tell you somethin? It's kinda stupid but..."
"I like your last silly idea so..." She rubbed her hand up and down the back of his arm, imaging the black ink disappearing and reappearing under her fingers as they slid up and down.
"Johnny's not my real name."
"Oh? Is this all some elaborate cover?" (Y/N) stared up at him, her expression a little sobered but her eyes still playful.
"Nah, that's not," He sunk into his position slightly, letting one arm take his weight bent at the elbow while his right hand settled back against her hip, "No, I just mean Johnny's not my given name. Everyone call's me that y'know but it's not really my name."
She smiled again, just a small one, "Well what is your 'real' name then?"
"Jose." He look a little unsure again.
"Very original." She giggled.
Johnny sucked his teeth and pinched the skin under his fingers, "Why are you so mean?"
She laughed again, massaged his bicep, "Jose Tuturro huh?"
He smiled, "Yeah, well there's like three or four other names mixed in there but..."
"Mhmm," They stared at each other for a moment, chuckling. "So, you want me to call you Jose?"
"Nahhh," He stroked his fingers over her hip like he needed a distraction, "Just sayin' is all."
She nodded, bit her lip as she thought, "Can I?"
"Can you what, cutie?" Johnny asked confused.
(Y/N) rolled her eyes, "Call you Jose?"
"You want to?"
"Kinda yeah." She looked up at him no longer teasing, "Makes me feel like I get to have the real you."
Johnny stared at her for several beats of his pounding heart, "I like the sound of that." He leaned down over her again kissing her, this time not taking any breaks or pauses. They settled tight against each other and lost themselves in the moment.
~~~
(Y/N) woke up a little stiff but warm and comfortable, Johnny behind her with his arms wrapped tight around her. "How long did I fall asleep?" The sky was grey in the morning sun, the waves crashing loudly outside the SUV.
Johnny squeezed her tighter against him and sighed, his face buried in the back of her neck, "I don't know, not too long." He pressed a kiss against the side of her neck, "I nodded off too."
She snuggled back into him, a little chill washing over her, and her heart rate picked up when she rubbed against Johnny behind her.
His hand moving to hold her hip with a little groan, "Careful cutie."
Against his warning she wiggled her backside again, secretly or not so secretly perhaps, enjoying the fell of him noticeably aroused behind her.
"Woman," Johnny held her tighter and couldn't help but press his hips into the friction. "Why are you always so mean to me?" He whined.
She giggled softly, eyes closed and heart pounding, "I'm kind of surprised..." She let one of her hands trail up and down the forearm still wrapped around her chest, "I expected you to try something last night."
With another soft groan, almost more of a chuckle, he squeezed her tighter against him, "Oh I want to Mama don't doubt that," he kissed the length of her neck, nipped at her shoulder, "But... when I do try somethin,'" He kissed his way back up to her ear, "We're gonna need a king size bed and more than a few hours." He rolled his hips against her backside again, noticeably and intentionally.
With a shiver (Y/N) bit her lip and melted into him. She tilted her head back, a thought to try and steal a kiss but before she could even try Johnny had a hand on her cheek and his lips over hers, hungry and devouring.
After they finally pulled apart, barely a breath away, she opened her eyes to his and asked, "Tonight?"
Feliz Navidad
“Now boarding flight 455 to Mexico thank you for traveling AirUALines” the announcement was all over the speaker. Sero got up “Come on babes our flight is now boarding…I can’t wait to see my parents and mi abuela…oh my God y/n mi abuela make the best *champurrado* in town sometimes during the *Las Posadas* She sells it. “What is champurrado?” you asked inquisitively. “It’s a hot drink made of corn masa, chocolate, milk, and all sorts of things…believe me mi amor it’s really good especially during the Christmas holidays” Sero explained to you. Being seated you were so excited to not only meet his parents but going out of the country for the first time. Could he pop the question? You wondered. You were seated by the window excited that you could see Mexico. You woke up Sero to let him know that they are in Mexico air now. He smiled.
Waiting for your luggage you heard a deep but welcoming voice behind you and Sero “Aye mijo (term of endearment to a young man) I missed you!” you turned around and saw Sero hugging an older gentleman. It was his father. “And this must be your girlfriend…mucho gusto (Nice to meet you)” he smiled at you. “Nice to meet you too” you smiled back at him. “Here let me see your bags” Sero’s father said while picking up your bags. He turned to his son “Ella muy bonita (she’s very pretty)” he said in spanish. “Yeah I think so too” Sero smiled at his dad. It was a very long drive to the house. Pulling up to the house it was the evening and there were Christmas lights everywhere, the door was opened and the smell of cinnamon permeated through the entrance of the house. A lot of people came outside welcoming Sero.
“oh dios mío Sero te extrañé tanto (oh my God Sero I missed you so much)” Sero’s mother exclaimed. Sero took his mom in for a big embrace “I miss you too mom” he said with tears. Your heart melted seeing the heart felt scene before you. His mom turned to you with tears in her eyes “Bienvenida...entra (welcome…come in)” she gestured to you to come in. House felt warm and welcoming as you walked in and you saw an elderly woman sitting in the kitchen. “¡Abuela! Te extrañé tanto como estas (Grandma! I missed you so much, how are you?)” Sero ran to his grandma giving her a big hug. “Yo también te extrañé Sero ... ¿Quién es esta adorable criatura? (I missed you too Sero…who is this lovely creature?)” his grandmother replied, hugging him back. The mother welcomed Sero and y/n into the dining room where there was a feast. There were three roasted chicken, spanish rice, carnitas, homemade tortillas, beans, and 3 different kinds of salsa was displayed on the table along with different kinds of drinks. Your eyes widen with hunger when seeing the feast.
As they all sat down to eat dinner Sero’s father started a conversation in spanish. “Tu casa está lista para vivir ahora gracias a Dios que llegaste. Los planes de matrimonio se terminaron y todo está listo para que ustedes se casen el día 15 antes de Las Posadas. (Your house is ready to live in now thank god you arrived. the marriage plans are finished and everything is set for you guys to be married the 15th before the Las Posadas)” Sero’s father said. You kept on eating because you thought they were talking about Las Posadas. “Estamos aquí para quedarnos papá ... La voy a sorprender cuando la haga ver la casa pero, por favor, mantenlo en secreto. (We are here to stay dad...I'm going to surprise her when I have her see the house but, please keep it a secret)” Sero said to his father. “Sero, what are you guys talking about?” you asked. “Oh nothing mi amor we were talking about the activities for the Las Posadas” he giggled and began to eat.
After dinner the women gather y/n to the living room for dessert and coffee. Thank God the Sero’s sister spoke english and can interpret. Sero on the other hand started to call the moving company and made arrangements to ship all of their stuff to Mexico. He then proceeded to seal the deal by poking holes in her diaphragm and condoms. That night was pure bliss. They made love so passionately. After finishing y/n fell asleep while Sero was still awake wondering if it took. Waking up to the Christmas song Feliz Navidad and the smell of breakfast cooking. You walked out to see a lot of people in the kitchen and dining room chopping, mixing, wrapping, and cooking. It was really busy. One of Sero’s aunts saw you and introduced you and put you to work (omg speaking from experience I dreaded to see my aunts) with all this commotion you lost Sero. He went to see his newly built house. He built a small fire in the firepit. Mesmerized with the flames he pulled out y/n’s passport, Identification cards and threw them in watching them burn. “You're not going to need these anymore…welcome home mi amor” he whispered then went back to his parents house.
“Feliz Navidad…Feliz Navidad…Feliz Navidad…Próspero año y felicidad…Feliz Navidad…Feliz Navidad…Feliz Navidad…Próspero año y felicidad.”
“I wanna wish you a merry Christmas…I wanna wish you a merry Christmas…I wanna wish you a merry Christmas…From the bottom of my heart”
Picnic Date
Requested by this anon: “Ok ok! Could you maybe write a karlnapity, or just quackity, picnic date?”
{I’m doing this one as just Quackity because it feels like I’ve done almost nothing that's just for him}
Quackity x reader
trigger warnings: maybe a few swears, other than that none :)
premise: Just a picnic with your best friend turns into a proper date
(y/n/n)- your nickname
{Also for reference torta ahogada is a kind of torta (Mexican sandwich) with carnitas and refried beans (oh my god I’m hungry writing this, can you tell?)}
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Hey Alex, are you doing anything today?” You called.
“Uhh, I was planning on streaming smp with Karl and George but probably not till later, why?” He asked, sticking his head into the kitchen to see what you were doing.
You grinned, holding up the basket you’d been packing, “Good, we’re going for a picnic!”
“A picnic?” He chuckled.
“Yeah dipshit, a picnic.” You laughed, setting the basket in his hands.
He looked down at it for a second, “Okay, is there any reason I’m going with you other than best friend obligation? Like what’s in it for me?”
“I had just enough leftovers to make us each a torta ahogada.” You replied, ignoring the pang in your chest at the words ‘best friend’, god this long time crush was gonna be the death of you.
Alex grinned, “I have been convinced!”
“You only use me for my cooking skills!” You exclaimed with another laugh.
~~
Soon enough you were at the park, both stretched out across the blanket you’d tucked into the top of the basket, trying not to laugh as Alex dug through the basket looking for the sandwiches.
He held one up triumphantly, grinning as he unwrapped the foil and took a bite, “Now this, is epic.”
You rolled your eyes, “Well obviously, I’m the one who made them.”
Alex chuckled, “You’re the best.”
“I know.” You smirked, grabbing a bottle of soda from the basket.
He chuckled, continuing to eat.
After you finished eating you ended up laying back and looking up at the sky, listening to Alex hum some random song.
“Dude we should go get ice cream or something.” He said suddenly.
You sighed, sitting up and glancing around, “uh, yeah, sure. Kinda don’t wanna abandon the picnic spot but sure.”
He looked at you for a moment, “You Lazy ass bitch.”
You chuckled, “Maybe so.”
“How bout I go get ice cream for us and you hold down the fort?” He offered.
You grinned, “Now that is a good plan.”
He rolled his eyes, standing up and getting ready to head off, “I’ll be back in a few minutes then.”
As promised he soon returned, carrying two styrofoam dishes of ice cream.
“Ayyyy, that’s my man!” You giggled, taking one of the bowls from him.
Alex grinned, quickly taking the opportunity to swipe his finger through the wipped cream, wiping it on the tip of your nose.
“Dickhead,” you muttered, trying not to laugh at the way he smirked as you grabbed a napkin, “Your fucking lucky I’m in love with you.”
The world seemed to come to a screeching halt around you as what you said fully registered in your brain.
You couldn’t help but laugh nervously as you looked up at Alex, who was still frozen, looking at you, “uhh- I mean-“
You were cut off by him surging forward, quickly pressing his lips to yours.
After a moment he pulled away, still looking at you, “If you really did mean that I am lucky.”
