Wait wait I joined the rwby fandom only recently I had no idea the line from armed and ready *is* actually about Blake. I’ve only seen vague references to the discourse it caused and just assumed it was about Ruby all the while being like “ok that’s nice but imma ignore that and pretend it’s about Blake anyway”

Yeah, no, it’s like. 100% about Blake and I’m so sure of that I will make definitive statements about it.

The song’s about Yang’s recovery after her defeat by Adam, something Ruby has nothing to do with. The first two verses are about a constant nightmare she has, nightmares we know are about Adam, and it makes no sense for the lyrics to go “I have nightmares about Adam, I love my little sister who’s not connected to these nightmares at all, anyways back to those nightmares.”

"But this is not a dream” <- Because it’s a memory.

“My minds repeats the scene, I can’t forget it and it’s torture” <- Makes no sense if we assume the “her” is Ruby because Yang never witnessed anything happening to Ruby in the first three volumes that would be so horrifying that it would be considered torture

And this is just something I remember so I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure after 6x10 someone tweeted a screenshot of Yang on Bumblebee going to to find Blake with the lyrics “I’m racing towards her side, there’s nothing that I won’t do for her” and Casey liked it. Obviously that’s not the scene the lyrics were referencing, but it was still pretty 👀

The long and short of it is that reading the “her” as Ruby requires you to take the lines out of the context of the rest of the song because of how disconnected Ruby is from the trauma Yang suffered during the fall of Beacon, but reading it as Blake fits perfectly into that context because she was the third person present for what happened. It ~just happens~ to feed into the shipping because “There’s nothing that I won’t do for her” is such an intense statement that it feels romantic, but reading it as Blake isn’t about shipping, it’s just objectively what makes the most sense in the context of the song, of the verse those lines are part of.

THEORIES FOR RWBY VOL 6

okay nobody asked for this but i had theories that popped up in my head so here we go

i’ve seen debate on whether sun and ilia are going to atlas or not- and, personally, i think they’ll go

i don’t think sun will have that big of a part though. he’s had a lot of time in the spotlight during vol. 4 and vol. 5, and i think we’ll see more of blake and yang’s relationship develop. (as much as i love blacksun, i’m a slut for bmblb too)

(i also believe we won’t get a character arc for sun until we get to vacuo. and his backstory. i have thoughts on sun’s backstory too, but i can ramble about those later.)

but ilia- she used to live in atlas. she went to school in atlas for a while. her parents were killed in a dust mine, and what’s not to say that it wasn’t a schnee mine? maybe we’ll see ilia vs the schnee company, idk (but necessarily ilia vs weiss, bc weiss has made it pretty clear she hates her dad, and honestly, if a fight breaks between the faunus and the dust company, i have a feeling weiss would help the faunus). so, yes, i think ilia will have a larger part in the upcoming atlas arc.

i also believe we’ll FINALLY meet mama schnee. we’ve met the rest of the family, so, like, it’s pointless if we don’t see her.

i think we’ll get watt’s backstory, since he’s from atlas, so that’s kind of a no-brainer

i really hope tyrian returns, too. he’s been forgotten about, and watts was supposed to make him that tail. we may see tyrian in vol 6, unless salem blasted him to pieces.

miles and kerry also said that they were excited to explore salem’s backstory- so we might find out who/what salem really is (i’m excited for this)

we might see hazel, adam, emerald, and mercury working together, since in vol 5 chpt 14 we saw adam watching hazel, em, and merc run off (this would also make sense because hazel and adam worked together in the past)

anyways that’s about it. these are honestly wild guesses so don’t take anything i say to heart lmao
