It is Often that the Unexpected Happens
Chapter 2
Word Count: 1552
Summary: Ash the BeetleWing has died to what would later be called the Othermind. Unfortunately, by means outside his understanding, he has been brought back in 7426 as, far from his time, and far from the extinction of his tribe. He doesn't belong in this time, he misses his friends, and he knows that the friends he left behind aren't safe. With the help of Darner and Poseidra, Ash goes on a quest to return home.
< Prev
___________________________
He woke up with a start, confused and surprised. How was he alive? He was certain he had been done for, he knew he should be dead. Despite all that, he was still alive and breathing, probably.
"Stag?" he asked worriedly, "Click? Orchid? Where is everyone?"
He shook his head, it didn't matter, he had to return to Click and Stag like he promised. He wanted to make sure everyone got away safe. He quickly flew to the camp.
·
·
·
He stopped where the camp should be, there were no trees, like on the entire flight, but there also wasn't any signs of dragons, or even a scuffle.
He looked around for any dragons. Out of the corner of his eye he saw an odd looking dragon. They had dragonfly-like wings, an extra horn on their head, and a stinger on their tail.
"Hey!" he said, backing up in case they were dangerous, "who are you and why are you here?"
They held up their talons before quickly responding, "I could ask you the same question."
"I'm Ash, I returned after helping save a lot of BeetleWings and LeafWings from the unusually large swarm of bees, I came back to report to Click," Ash said, before getting annoyed at their response, they looked like they were trying not to laugh, "what's so funny?"
"Sorry sorry, it's just, everything seems so convincing about what you're saying," they said, "but everyone knows that the BeetleWings have been extinct for at least three thousand years."
"You're joking right?" Ash asked, "I spoke to two not that long ago."
“I’m not joking, if I was, I wouldn’t be here," they said.
"And you are?"
"Right, right," they said, "I am Darner, of the HiveWings."
"Hive… What?" at this point Ash didn't know what to think, "what the fuck is a HiveWing?"
"Wait, you're serious?" Darner said, "and you're an actual BeetleWing?"
"Last I checked, yes," he said.
"That makes no sense to me but maybe Queen Acacia’lll understand," Darner suggested.
"'Queen'?" Ash echoed, he had never heard the term before.
“How do you not know what a queen is? I mean, they lead the tribes of Pyrrhia and Pantala," Darner said, sounding surprised.
"We didn't have them, our leaders were Click and Orchid, they didn't have special titles," Ash explained, before adding "but it's nice to know that the dragons of Pyrrhia are still alive."
"Alright, I have no idea what's going on," Darner said, "I'm taking you to Queen Acacia, maybe she'll have answers."
"I'm not sure about this," Ash said, "I kind of don't want people to stare at me, and if I'm supposed to be dead, that'll attract attention."
"I'm sure it'll be fine, we've seen plenty of odd dragons," Darner assured, "now come along!"
"Uhh, why?" Ash asked, confused.
"Alright then…"
·
·
·
"I'll go in first, you wait here for a bit," Darner said, "I'll tell you when to come in."
"It's normal to do this when speaking to another tribe's queen," Darner explained, not helping Ash’s confusion, “now, please stay out here while I talk to her.”
After some time, Darner came out, "alright Ash, you can come in now."
"Alright," he said before walking in. On an odd structure was another HiveWing, this one had many pieces of jewelry and something odd on her head.
"What is this, Darner?" she asked.
"Queen Acacia, this’s Ash, he is the only living BeetleWing," Darner replied.
"How do you know he's actually a BeetleWing and not just some weird SilkWing?" Queen Acacia asked, "Actually, whatever, you've very interesting, is that all?"
"What, Queen Acacia, I-"
Darner was cut off as the door slammed open, and out came what looked to be a less furred IceWing with wings similar to Darners, she had a very serious expression and bags under her eyes, "hello Queen Acacia, I'd like to request something."
"Why didn't you ask before barging in?" Queen Acacia asked, sounding really annoyed.
"I did, but they didn't believe me when I told them that I was Poseidra," the dragon said, "something about how I'm not alive."
"Well clearly you are, what do you want?" Queen Acacia asked, her tone changing from annoyed to exasperated.
"I'd like to officially resign from being a soldier, I almost died on the field, and I would like to avoid doing so in the future," Poseidra said.
"Is this what was so important?" Queen Acacia asked, "you could have waited, I'm doing something else right now."
Poseidra looked over at Ash and Darner, her squinting a bit at Ash before looking back at Queen Acacia, "I don't see why you'd be so distracted."
"Of course you wouldn't," Queen Acacia said, pinching in between her eyes, annoyed, "you're a hybrid who somehow now has fur. Nothing could possibly be weird in your eyes.”
"Part of the reason, sure, but I have other reasons," Poseidra said.
"Oh? Care to add onto the reasons?"
"Nope," Poseidra said, popping the p, "but, if you don't mind, I'd like to have a nice chat with the BeetleWing here."
"Oh I don't mind, two things solved at once," Queen Acacia said, "better for me."
"Whatever, come along," Poseidra said, "now I think introductions are in order, what is your name?"
"I'm Ash."
"Nice to meet you Ash, I'm Poseidra," Poseidra stated, "now come on, I'd like to speak to you."
"Uhh, ok?" he said, cautiously following her.
Once they were a few paces away from where Queen Acacia was, Poseidra spoke, "you don't have to be so tense, I won't do anything."
"Why am I going with you?" Ash asked.
"I don't really trust monarchs that well,” Poseidra said, looking at the throne room doors with an odd look, “I’ve had some unpleasant experiences.”
“‘Unpleasant experiences?’" Ask echoed, confused.
"It's unimportant info. So you're the last BeetleWing alive? Gonna be honest, that sounds… not very fun," Poseidra said, "you should be with other members of your tribe. On top of that I'm sure everything here is new or confusing, we've come a long way since BeetleWings went extinct."
"It is, I'm not used to any of this," Ash said, "I'm used to sleeping in a small camp, I'm used to small structures, hell, I don't fully trust those little fires that are hanging to not burn this place down."
"It's understandable, when things change a lot in what feels like a short amount of time, it can take quite a while to adjust," Poseidra said, she sounded like she was speaking from experience, "but if it helps, I could probably get you used to everything.”
"Eh, I'm good, I don't need your help," Ash said, "honestly, I just want to go back to my tribe. I miss Orchid and Click, I miss Stag. I miss my family."
"And how do you plan to do that? They have been dead for thousands of years, and no one from our time can get you back to then," Poseidra pointed out, "we don't have anyone with that kind of ability or tech."
"I don't know, it's just hard for me," Ash said, "I've never been this alone."
"Hey, how about, instead of dwelling on what we can't do anything about, and instead find something better to do?" Poseidra suggested.
“Such as?? What can we do at this time?" Ash asked, "I don't know what is available."
Poseidra stood quiet for a moment before speaking, “I know! I could introduce you to my friend, Ray. It’s a long flight, but I think it'd be worth it."
“I think I can handle a long flight, I flew from Pyrrhia to here” Ash pointed out.
"Sure you can do that, but what about this continent and an ocean?" Poseidra asked, "and what if those millennia of you not existing destroyed that stamina of yours?"
“You are acting like you don't want me comming," Ash said, "let's just go already, which way?"
“East,” Poseidra said, “we should go as fast and as soon as we can. I want to be there before the sun sets."
“Hold on!” a voice said, both turned around to see Darner running after them, “let me come with you two!”
Poseidra’s eyes narrowed, “why do you want to come with us?”
"Most dragons have never seen a BeetleWing, it'd be nice to learn about what happened during the scorching,” Darner explained, “and Poseidra has been gone for moons, I also want to know what happened to her in that time.”
"What are you talking about?" Poseidra asked, "I almost died, what more is there to say?"
“I don't believe a word of that 'I almost died, bs,' it was so long, something happened, also you have a friend who's name doesn't sound very HiveWing, proving as much," Darner pointed out, "and I'll find out. Even if I have to pressure your friend."
"You won't get anything from pressuring them but alright," Poseidra said.
“Sure- whatever, we should get going,” Darner said, “we don’t want to put off the flight if we want to get there when Poseidra'll prefer."
“Yep, Poseidra,” Ash interjected, “the sooner we fly the sooner we’ll be there.”
"Well then, let's go!" Darner said, taking off in the direction he had seen Ash and Poseidra about to fly towards.

I've got my idea for each arc in the swapped WoF continent au mostly figured out now!
Also warning for spoilers since I use the same events as in the book for this.
Arc 1:
Takes place on Pantala. Leafwings are not at war and trees are not illegal but Hivewings still rule over the Silkwings and have uneasy alliance with the Leafwings. Queen Wasp has died and left everyone unsure of who will take over her hive/being the main Hivewing queen. Every Lady or at least a few of them (I imagine 3) who are interested are now at war and split the hives. Some side with Leafwings, Some force Silkwings to fight, and Some only have Hivewings but many of them. The book keeper declares there is a prophecy in Clearsight's book about ending this war.
(I'm not yet sure how the prophecy goes)
But it says that 2 Hivewings, 2 Silkwings, and 1 Leafwing will end it in 20 years.
And now like the normal plot the eggs are gathered, something goes wrong with getting 2 Hivewing eggs and it is replaced by another Leafwing egg instead.
The dragonets are
Clay - Leafwing
A very strong looking Leafwing, hatched first so was decided to be the Leafwing they wanted. Has no abilities but is believed to be feirce and dangerous due to Hivewing propaganda. He just wants peace and to be friendly.
Tsunami - Silkwing
They think she acts out because of not being properly raised by Silkwings under Hivewing rule and she probably wants to prove Silkwings are good leaders for prophecys and stuff. Related to either Queen Monarch or whoever the last Silkwing royalty was and is therefore the heir to the Silkwing throne which no longer exists. She does get her wings before they escape and was excited about it.
Glory - Leafwing
Glory has leafspeak instead of venom but no one thinks either she or Clay has it. They do probably treat her a bit better but she's still counted as an extra for hatching later and therefore is unwanted.
Starflight - Hivewing
The Hivewings want him to be the leader of the group. He has no extra natural weapons.
Sunny - An unusual looking Silkwing
Is a Silkwing with no antenna and some strange looking features. Considered the good Silkwing of the group for behaving but she is still very overlooked because of it. Can't wait to get her wings any day now. She is a Silk/Hive hybrid (Mother Silkwing and Father Hivewing) When she gets her wings later after they escape she has very unusual wings and she might also get some black scales during her metamorphosis.
At the end the prophecy is discovered to be a fake made up by 1 of the Hivewing Ladies in order to get the throne and rule over all 3 tribes, but it is still sort of fulfilled.
Arc 2: (Needs some work)
Takes place in Pantala. There is a school for all 3 tribes and Silkwings have their own tribe and queen again (Ruled by Sunny's mother.) Darkstalker who is a Beetlewing animus is awoken. He can somehow talk to Moon (unsure how)
Moon comes across Clearsight's book somehow and finds a real prophecy written in it.
Moon - Hivewing
Somehow able to talk to Darkstalker, can't hear thoughts however. (Unsure how else to make her unique)
Winter - Leafwing
Doesn't have leafspeak, part of the royal family.
Peril - Silkwing
She's a flamesilk. Hivewings tried to use her to produce it and she became useful as a war machine as well.
Turtle - Silkwing
Still an animus. Also part of the forgotten original Silkwing royalty same as his sister Anemone.
Qibli - Hivewing
Has extra natural weapons mostly for paralyzing. Very loyal to the new Silkwing queen who took him in when he was little.
In the end they defeat Darkstalker, they also prevent the Hivewings and Leafwings from going to war again.
Arc 3: (Needs work)
Takes place on Pyrrhia. One of the tribes has taken over several of the others or is at war with them.
Blue - Nightwing
Born under 1 moon. Can see the future. Gets visions and doesn't know what to do about it. Delivers the 3rd prophecy.
Cricket - Icewing
(Wanted to keep up the forbidden romance with her and Blue, also thought Icewing would be more interesting than Sandwing or any other dragon type that made sense for her) Not much else to say.
Sundew - Skywing
Might have firescales (Was unsure whether or not to give them to her) . Is part of a small group who spilt from the main Skywing kingdom.
Snowfall - Leafwing
Leafwing queen after what happens with Darkstalker.
Luna - Nightwing
Born under 1 moon with Blue. Can read minds. She ends up using this power to show Freedom the visions.
They end up reuniting the tribes and stopping the breath of evil which is on Pyrrhia now.
And that concludes what I have so far for this au, I'm almost done with the drawings for the 1st arc characters too. Let me know what you think :3

(Top Left): Varen the BeetleWing
(Top Right): Righteous and her grand-dragonet Starmaiden (NightWings)
(Bottom Left): Blackscales the NightWing
(Bottom Right) Tulip the Leaf/Silk hybrid
You asked for OC's, and ye shall receive. I use the WoF coloring book for my references; I find it extremely helpful when drawing WoF dragons. NightWings and SilkWings are my favorite to draw btw.
Tbh I want to draw all of these so I'll post them separately so you aren't waiting ages lol

What are your thoughts on the hivewings and silkwings? I'm a huge fan of the alternate physiology with their wings, and the concept of new tribes forming over time due to hybridization, and I'd love to know what headcanons you have about them!
Personally, I really enjoy the concept of them! I love the idea of wasp dragons and butterfly dragons and just Bug dragons in general, but I really wish that like. the big point of the Divergence from the BeetleWings Wasn't the idea that it was hybrids that just spiraled out into the HiveWings.
Like don't get me wrong, I do really enjoy the HiveWings, but it Should have been just a Thing that happened over time like the BeetleWings turning into the SilkWings- but instead we got told that it was the hybrids produced by Clearsight that became the HiveWings.
Let me get a little Numbery here. We know there's been 2,000 years since Darkstalker's first fall (when Clearsight and Fathom trapped him under the mountain), and we know that Clearsight left very soon After the fact to find the new continent. Let's say She only had one dragonet with that one BeetleWing, and every child she had waited until they were fully grown (7 years old), then the One year it takes for a dragon egg to incubate and hatch. 2,000 years divided by the 8 it takes to produce a new child, it means there's a VERY SMALL amount of time in the sense of When Clearsight Happened to when new "HiveWings" were produced. Like somewhere around 250 dragonets- which is Very small if you think about it! And yes, this math *does* only take into account of every dragon in this line only having 1 kid, but even then, by the time we would get to now, they'd be so muddled in with SilkWings that it wouldn't matter- *unless* they're inbreeding, which feels Very Fucking Weird to try and include when we know these dragons are smart and sapient! if they were just animals it would feel Less weird, but still- and even *then*, we wouldn't get the Vast Numbers we get by the books they're introduced, so it just feels like there's Some Sort of Animus fuckery going on, but we haven't been Told that.
See the amount of time we have between then and now is enough time to be like. Yeah, it seems totally fine that you can't find Any traces of IceWing in Stonemover and Sunny, but it's not NEARLY enough time to say we could've created a new tribe and have the numbers to make the HiveWings as they are.
I could be COMPLETELY wrong here. I read the lost continent arc up to the poison jungle back when it came out, and then I never finished dangerous gift nor even cracked open the flames of hope yet, but I DO know the Darkstalker legend book like it's a good childhood friend, so my numbers and such may be a little off. It's just kinda strange, you know?
but you DID ask me for my headcanons- I like to headcanon the two tribes being alot closer than they expect! I like the idea of HiveWings having antenna, and maybe even those with Especially Strong abilities to be able to sense feelings- almost like mind reading if you catch my drift. I also like to headcanon Flamesilks as not actually having Flame Baring Silk, but rather just silk that *glows*, and it produces heat that lets it be known as "flame silk".
I do also *personally* headcanon that BeetleWings are still around, maybe bumming around in the poison jungle or underground somewhere, like some beetles, but that's less important. I do know that there's some lore floating around in those various "Ask Tui" events on forums n such that Icewings are the origin of the Animus Genes, but I like to think it might've also been in BeetleWings and it's why some things are Like That on Pantala.
But, That's all alot to say that I enjoy these dragons and wish they were treated better by the narrative- because the 3 moons know we didn't need that slavery plotline.

What you can find beyond the powers of my Stand is where you need to go in order to find Heaven. What you need is a trustworthy friend. He must be someone capable of controlling his own desires. He must be someone who is not interested in political power, fame, wealth, or sexual desire, and who chooses the will of God before the law of humans.
Will I, DIO, be able to meet someone like this one day?
What I also need is the lives of more than 36 humans who have sinned, because those who have sinned harbor a strong power within.
There are 14 phrases that one must keep in mind:
Spiral staircase (らせん階段, Rasen Kaidan)
Rhinoceros beetleW (カブト虫, Kabutomushi)
Desolation RowW (廃墟の街, Haikyo no machi)
Fig tart (イチジクのタルト, Ichijiku no taruto)Rhinoceros beetle (カブト虫, Kabutomushi)Via Dolorosa (ドロローサへの道, Dororōsa e no michi)Rhinoceros beetle (カブト虫, Kabutomushi)Singularity point (特異点, Tokuiten)Giotto (ジョット, Jotto)Angel (天使エンジェル, Enjeru)Hydrangea (紫陽花, Ajisai)Rhinoceros beetle (カブト虫, Kabutomushi)Singularity point (特異点, Tokuiten)Secret emperor (秘密の皇帝, Himitsu no Kōtei)
I'll engrave these words onto my Stand so I won't forget them. What is most necessary is "courage"; I must have the courage to destroy my Stand momentarily. As it disintegrates, my Stand will absorb the souls of the 36 sinners and will give birth to something utterly new.
Whatever is born will "awaken". It will show interest in the 14 phrases that my trusted friend will utter... My friend will trust me and I will become his "friend".
Lastly, I need an appropriate location. North latitude, 28 degrees, 24 minutes, West longitude 80 degrees, 36 minutes...
Go there and wait for the New Moon...
That's when Heaven will come.
DIO

Here’s some of my current Wings of Fire projects you can look forward too ( to those who simply can’t wait for book 15 and need more Wings of Fire content as soon as possible, okay I’m just describing me but if you can’t find it yourself make it! )
-Lots of artwork! Pride icons, general wings of fire art, and maybe some stickers in the near future! ( Sunny Aro/Ace Icon coming very soon once I get the motivation )
-The Imprisoned Prince and it’s universe is just my own oc wings of fire project, the Imprisoned Prince is one of the books I’m working on :))
-Wings of Fire Ancestor, is a little tumblr post series about how I imagine the dragons of Pyrrhia and Pantala’s ancestors to be! Similar to the concept of Beetlewings, some smaller projects included in this are designing the extinct tribes mentioned and a Lizardwing Walk Cycle animation! ( please help I cannot find a good reference for something similar to a dragon walking, maybe a dog walk cycle would help? )
-The Wings of Fire Naming Masterlist, a google doc full to the brim with names you can use for your Wings of Fire characters, taking longer than expected because oh my god there are so many species of fish… anyways, also hoping to categorize each name category under each tribe so if you are looking for fish names for Seawings you can easily navigate to it! Always open for naming suggestions because this is taking quite a long time!
-And I’m also hoping to start a few more projects when these are finished! Would love to join some Beginner Wof MAPs once I practice with animation a bit more :))

Some WoF headcanons for my au, The Unknown Continent. Might do another soon maybe
- NightWing royalty has twisted horns
- The NightWings never had a Darkstalker-level threat and thus never left their peninsula. However, their territory stretches out further from the claw of Pyrrhia
- Queen Shadowkiller of the NightWings will be one of the only NightWing queens to die of old age due to her putting her tribe’s needs over her own. That, and because her nieces (her eldest son’s daughters) knew they were too small to challenge her even in adulthood and simply had to wait for her to die
- Queen Eira of the IceWings is incredibly paranoid and has undoubtedly caused a few perceived threats to go missing. She has IceWing nobility on lock. Her eldest daughter, Princess Beluga, is far more laid back and will be a welcomed change once she becomes queen
- The NightWings and the SkyWings warred over something and the NightWings won
- Like the SeaWings, all the dragon tribes of Coleo (except for the immigrant BeetleWings) have bioluminescent markings. However, they communicate mood as opposed to being a complex language of its own
- CloudWing royalty is signified by colored jade necklaces with cloud motifs. Only royalty has green jade necklaces because green jade is incredibly rare in the Silver Tundra, where they live
- SunWings have learned to make glass from sand, and then learned to make pigmented glass. The Sun Kingdom is known for its many multicolored lanterns and stained glass windows, which makes its towns and cities (and especially the Sun Palace) quite the sight at night
- CloudWings, like electric eels, can produce an electric current throughout their bodies. They mine conductive metal and have learned to use the metal in war, or to subdue pesky intruders. Their currents can kill if powerful enough, or if the victim has a weak heart. However, as each CloudWing dragonet receives extensive training to control this current, a normal CloudWing electric attack will only stun an opponent. Due to this current all CloudWing eyes glow, or at least seem to flicker
- A CloudWing with too much electricity is called a stormscale. If not given a conductor (in the form of metal accessories or a pole) they can easily shock another dragon to death, even a CloudWing, without trying. Lightning fizzles on their scales, their eyes will have a stronger glow, and everything they touch will have jagged burn marks
- The LeafWings, HiveWings, and BeetleWings were not originally native to Pantala. As they struggled to clear out the Hivemind, a group of BeetleWings lost their nerve and left Pantala in search of better lands. Although many died along the way, they landed in Coleo and made their home in the Horn Mountains, where they still live thousands of years later
- BeetleWings represent spiders, moths, and butterflies. They can have black coloration
- The PetalWings have a very precise seasonal clock. They know on instinct when they should plant and which crop they should plant. Their gardens and produce are legendary
- In Pantala, there is a town of BeetleWings with clear wings. They are called ClearWings. Victims of a harmless mutation, the ClearWings have somewhat of an elitist view towards themselves and will only mate with other ClearWings, especially if they are of the town. Dragonets with colored wings are given to BeetleWings in a neighboring town to raise, though some colored-winged BeetleWings are allowed to stay in the town so long as they do not take a mate. There are ClearWings in Coleo too, but they did not segregate themselves (though there is a town with a concentrated population of ClearWings)
- Both Pantalan and Colean BeetleWings (PB and CB) raise honeybees and other insects for food. However, CBs have allowed meat into their diet, such as fish, birds, frogs, small animals, and traded meat
- Coleo is a very scientific continent, with its tribes paying close attention to celestial bodies to plan their festivities, their agricultural lives, and simply for fun
- The SunWings have sun dials
- The GrassWings, who live in the center of Coleo and border nearly all the tribes, are prominent flutists and invented wind chimes

How are these? Softstar [m] & Beetlespring [f] (they're mates); Honeybreeze [f], Sheeptuft [f], & Houndtail [m] (littermates & Soft/Beetle's kits); Asterfang [trans m] (Honey's mate); Swanflight [f] (med cat); Vixenpaw [f] (Sheep's app) and Bearpaw [m] (med cat app), Fadedkit [f] & Sapkit [m] (all are Honey/Aster's adopted kits, but Faded/Sap are biologically Swan's)? Thanks in advance and sorry for all the names! I might've accidentally sent a duplicate ^^''
Softstar- A kind and gentle tom. Softstar will put the happiness and welfare of his clanmates above all else, always taking the time to make sure everyone is ok. He tends to think more with his heart but will always make sure his decisions are rational and a good course of action. He greatly admires Beetlewing and feels so lucky a cat like her took him as a mate, 13/10
Beetlespring- A skilful and courageous she-cat. Beetlespring is an excellent warrior she shows no fear in battle and has the largest pounce out of any living clan cat. She’s highly loyal to her clan and is extremely organised and will often advise Softstar to help him make the best course of action, she knows how much the happiness of the clan means to him and she will always try her best to help him with that goal, even though she believes that conflict is sometimes unavoidable and with Softstar’s permission, she always hosts extra training when tensions are high to ensure everyone is prepared in case Softstar’s peace plans fail, 14/10
Honeybreeze- A gentle and wise she-cat. Honeybreeze was always the quietest of Softstar’s and Beetlespring’s kits, she definitely takes after her father, she has the same patient and kind temperament as him. Honeybreeze is often called upon for her advice, especially by her siblings, they’ve always looked up to her to know what to do, 15/10
Sheeptuft- A cheerful and relaxed she-cat. Sheeptuft doesn’t tend to take things too seriously, no matter how hard her family try to advise her otherwise. She will often chirp when happy, often after she has made a catch or when she is hanging out with Honeybreeze and Houndtail. She will often be the one to keep kits distracted and amused when something unpleasant is happening, shielding them from things that they might not be ready for, at times like that she actually does feel anxious, but she hides it for the kits’ sake, 15/10
Houndtail- A courageous and bold tom. Houndtail is determined to make his parents proud, they are hard cats to live up to but Houndtail tries his best. He will often quickly assess a situation before engaging with it, always with confidence and without a trace of fear, he is highly respected amongst the other clans for his rational decision making and his courage and skill in battle, attributes he credits his parents for, 13/10
Asterfang- A determined and courageous tom. Asterfang is determined to be the best warrior he can be, sometimes he can feel insecure, but after some encouragement from Honeybreeze he feels like he can do anything. He will face challenges head on, despite any fears he may have and he will always fight to defend those he loves, especially Honeybreeze, he wouldn’t know what to do if her lost her, 15/10
Swanflight- A gentle and intelligent she-cat. Swanflight is an excellent medicine cat, she knows everything there is to know about herbs and has often improvised successful treatments when needed due to her knowledge. She always treats cats with the upmost patience and care despite how difficult they may act and and she will never give up on a patient no matter what, sometimes working herself to exhaustion to try and care for them, 14/10
Vixenpaw- A determined and bold she-cat. Vixenpaw certainly keeps Sheeptuft on her toes, she wants to be leader one day so is always trying to train as hard as she can and is always dashing ahead. She works hard in all that she does to try and impress Sheeptuft, she knows Sheeptuft is the daughter of Softstar, so she hopes that maybe if she works hard enough, he will consider making her a warrior early, 14/10
Bearpaw- A thoughtful and kind tom. Bearpaw will always put a lot of thought into something before committing, although in an emergency he is capable of making quick and calm decisions. The more I think about Dark Clearsight the more disturbed I get. Y'all realize she could have been worse than Darkstalker right? I mean imagine someone who had the patience to go through all of the futures and just decide which ones best for everyone.
I mean I love Clearsight but oof. Oof. She could have been so bad. And some of the things she did do was a little.... Hmmm.
Like going straight to teaching the Leafwings and Beetlewings her language instead of thinking about learning theirs. (But this is jumping to conclusions but one of her first thoughts is "oh maybe I should make sure they all know my language so we can communicate" instead of "oh I can't wait to learn their language." Which I don't know feels a little wrong.) And the Whiteout and Thoughtful thing. I mean it was good but that little thrill of changing everything and rewriting their lives is just really freaky to me.
I have to reiterate. I adore Clearsight but even dragons with the best intentions do questionable things. Hence her white pile of sand in the soul reader. And it is so fascinating to think about.
Or maybe I'm just mentally and physically exhausted thinking about an AU I came up with when making a post at random. My mind scares me sometimes on how fast it jumps around.

It is Often that the Unexpected Happens
Chapter 11
Word Count: 1693
Summary: Ash the BeetleWing has died to what would later be called the Othermind. Unfortunately, by means outside his understanding, he has been brought back in 7426 as, far from his time, and far from the extinction of his tribe. He doesn't belong in this time, he misses his friends, and he knows that the friends he left behind aren't safe. With the help of Darner and Poseidra, Ash goes on a quest to return home.
Warnings: Violence, death

The flight was entirely silent, barely a single word muttered, and if something was said, it was just a complaint. Ash let Ray and Darner lead as he was sure they knew what they were doing, after all, they had all of that time to collect information on the islands. He wasn’t really paying too much attention, though. He barely even cared when he landed, he just sort of turned it out.
He snapped his head up when he felt someone's talons on his shoulder. He looked to see Darner. The HiveWing looked concerned.
“Ash we have the last item,” Darner said, “but I need to know, are you really ok? I won’t tell anyone if something is wrong.”
“It’s nothing, Darner,” Ash assured, he didn’t want to talk about it.
“It’s not nothing Ash,” Darner said, he took his talons off Ash’s shoulder “but I won’t push you. I just hope you talk to someone soon.”
“Come on everyone, after all this time, we have everything. It’s time to send Ash home,” Ray said, “not Rainstorm what does the book say?”
“It says-” Rainstorm was interrupted by a very familiar metallic sound.
“Oh dammit not now,” Ray said.
“Ahoy, fuckers!” came Captain Kamchatka’s voice.
“Urg when will we get a break from this shit?” Darner said.
The Captain flew dragons with their fleet behind them, likely to follow through with their threat. They spoke with what was probably a fake smile, “‘f it isn’t meh favorite dragons! ‘Nd it seems t’ey found friends.”
“Uh Ash, who is this?” Rainstorm asked.
“Oh, did ‘e not tell ya about meh?” Captain Kamchatka asked, “how rude of ‘em. I am Pirate Captain, Kamchatka! I rule t’ese seas wit’ an iron grip!”
“And we pissed them off like a week ago,” Poseidra said.
“Yep! Also might I add, I like what ya did wit’ yer face!” the Captain said, “very… melty.”
“Look Captain, I don’t know what you want, but could it wait a few minutes? We’re busy.” Dewdrop said.
“Oh yeah RainWing? ‘Nd why should I?” Captain Kamchatka asked, “are ya goin’ to melt meh face? Change colors really fast? Ha!”
“No, but I have close connections to Queen Camellia, and she happens to be VERY close to Queen Gharile. And I KNOW about your deal with Gharile” Dewdrop said, “now, imagine if I tell Queen Camellia about this? What do you think Gharile will do? Sure, it’s rumored that your fleet can take on one kingdom, but what about two? Three?”
“Damn Dew, I didn’t know you had those kind of connections,” Poseidra said.
“Wait, Dew? Dewdrop? Ya look… younger t’an I thought…” Captain Kamchatka said, “what are ya doin’ wit’ t’ese dragons?”
“That is not your business, now leave, Captain,” Dewdrop said.
“Nah, I t’ink ‘m more interested in t’is group t’an ever before,” Captain Kamchatka, “besides, I only want two of t’ose dragons dead.”
“How about no?” Dewdrop said.
“Look RainWing, ya may have all of t’ese connections, but if no one knows how ya died, t’en I can’t get in trouble,” Captain Kamchatka said, “now, everyone, grab t’em, but leave t’e HiveWing ‘nd Be’leWing, t’ose are me and t’e Lieutenant's kill.”
“Oh no,” Ash said, he immediately ran, remembering his training. He wasn’t going to die today. He hoped.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw Darner, being threatened by the Lieutenant, he was afraid and likely hadn’t had a proper fight before. Ash darted over to Darner ready to keep him alive. Darner nodded when he saw Ash get behind him.
As the fight dragged on, and felt himself tiring, he wanted so badly to just end this but he couldn’t. He was so tired from everything. Everyone had had some sort of break and so had he, but, it wasn’t enough. At some point he faltered and either the Captain or the Lieutenant killed him, Ash wasn’t sure, he just knew he felt a blade through his body. Just like that one SeaWing from a week ago.

Ash opened his eyes in a place similar to Meishu’s realm. This time, while in this realm, nothing felt out of place. On top of that, he didn’t feel any pain or exhaustion. In front of him was a heavily feathered dragon, with four wings and two tails.
“So Ash, it seems you have died again,” the dragon said. “Where am I?” Ash asked.
“Of course, to put it in a way you understand, you have left the mortal plane,” they said.
“So, you’re dead too?” Ash asked.
“Ha ha, no,” they said, “I can’t die, that would break a lot. I simply control the cycle of rebirth.”
“Who are you?” Ash asked.
“It doesn’t matter, I doubt you will remember this conversation once I send you back,” they said.
“Send me back?” Ash asked.
“Yes, see your story isn’t over,” they said, “you still have to fight off some pirates. You have to find a lover (or don’t, doesn’t affect me), become someone’s ‘cool uncle’. You are still young.”
“So, if you control rebirth, did you send me to this time?” Ash asked, when they nodded their head, Ash continued, “why?”
“Entertainment value. See, as an immortal, I get bored easily. Just the same old mortals, nothing of interest, sometimes another god will do something cool, but I never get much fun,” they said, “so when you died, I figured, hey, why shouldn’t I do something cool like these other gods? So I decided to hold onto you for a few thousand years before I had you return. And let me say, it was worth it.”
“So all of this, everything I went through, was for your entertainment?” Ash asked.
“Indeed. Although I do get you, mortals hate stuff like that,” they said, “but you are only on a mortal’s level of thinking, so your judgment is invalid.”
“Alright, so why are we having this conversation?” Ash asked.
“Ah, finally. See, I figure after what I did to me, you deserve to keep going,” they said, “though I’d suggest you don’t go back, as Time will, as you mortals say, ‘have my ass’.”
“Time?” Ash asked.
“Another immortal, doesn't like a lot of us gods, we mess with them too much,” they said.
“Alright then, so I know why I’m here,” Ash said, “can I go back?”
“Of course, I have no reason to keep you much longer,” they said.

Ash sat up, head feeling fuzzy. He looked around. The pirates must have left, his friends were there, looking fine. He was confused.
“Guys? What happened?” Ash asked.
“Shit you’re alive!” Darner said, running up to Ash and hugging him.
“Let’s just say, venom and political power can scare a pirate fleet away,” Dewdrop said, probably leaving shit out but whatever.
“Thanks Dewdrop,” Ash said.
“Whatever, let’s just get you back,” Dewdrop said, taking their talons, placing it on his head, and shaking it.
“Yep,” Ash said.
And so, the group did as the book said. While he would never understand how it would work, that didn’t matter then, he just wanted to get home. He turned to everyone.
“Welp. I guess this is it. I guess I should say my goodbyes,” Ash said, “Rainstorm, it was nice to know you, you helped so much, you even taught me to read. Dewdrop, I don't know you that well, but you motivate me when I really needed it, and you saved our asses. Ray, I didn’t know you as well as I should have, but you were a great friend. Poseidra, you made all of this possible, you were a great friend, and just know, I really am sorry about your face.”
Ash turned to Darner who opened his arms for a hug, which Ash reciprocated, “Darner you were my closest friend, you were here with me since the beginning. I really wish you could come with me.”
“I wish I could go with you too,” Darner said, pausing with a dry sob, “but I think it’s best we part ways as friends.”
“Yeah,” Ash said, stepping away from the hug, his face felt wet. He’d only known these dragons for like a week but he felt so close to all of them. For a moment, in the back of his mind, he remembered someone’s suggestion to stay, but he dismissed it. He was doing this.
He stepped up to the circle, “welp, bye guys, maybe I’ll leave y’all something in stone.”
And so Ash stepped through the portal, and went back home. Leaving the dragons he had grown to care for.

Ash stood up on the same cliffside he had landed on over six thousand years ago. He walked towards where he knew the camp should be. The first dragon to spot him was some Leafwing who looked reasonably surprised.
“Holy shit, is that Ash?! I thought you died man!” they ran up to him, “Click and Orchid will be so happy to see you!”
And they ran off. Ash followed after them. As he followed he saw all of the changes he hadn’t been here for. Some dragons noticed him, and those who recognized him were surprised. The LeafWing stopped him at a small hut without a door and they went it. Shortly after, a LeafWing and a BeetleWing came out.
“Hey Click, hey Orchid, I’m back,” Ash said.
Click ran up to him and hugged him, “you’ve been gone for a full moon, idiot, where were you?”
“Heh, that’s a really long story,” Ash said, “but more importantly, where is Stag?”
“I’ll take you to his hut,” Click said, and off he walked to a hut with a very familiar BeetleWing in front of it looking down at his talons.
“Hey Stag, miss me?” Ash asked
The BeetleWing looked up in surprise and flung himself at Ash (Ash was getting a lot of hugs recently), “gods damn, where were you Ash?”
“Once again, long story,” Ash said, “I don’t want to get into it just yet.”
“That’s fine, we have plenty of time,” Stag said “Yep…” Ash said.

Questions I have about wings of fire
Ok, so it is no secret I love wings of fire. But I also have questions about it, some I am sure won't be answered, but I thought I should ask them anyway to see if other people thing the same.
Did scavengers have modern technology before the scorching? If so is wings of fire a post apocalyptic story?
Every other animal on the world of wings of fire is the same as ours, but not the dragons. According to the rules of biology no two creatures on earth can more than four limbs, so are dragons from the same common ancestor? Of so what were the first dragons like?
What did beetlewings look like?
Why are phyrrah and pantal shaped like dragons? Was it a powerful animus spell to make them that way? I heard a theory that Darkstalkers actions made earthquakes happen where the city of night was, so could it be true for both tribes? Wait, pantala doesn't have animus magic, so that's out the window, so was some divine being just looking down on the planet and made the two continents that way?
What is the planet wings of fire takes place on called?
How does animus magic work? Does it ruin your soul or not? Why did it appear in the first place, and how did it disappear?
If the world of wings of fire has more continents, are they also dragon shaped? What strange tribes would we have? We have normal dragons and we have bug dragons, so could we have dinosaur dragons?
Did Tui know about Spyro when she came up wings of fire, the legend of Spyro specifically
Wtf was the comet in the brightest night? I know space and that damn thing was no comet. Was it a planet with such a wonky orbit that it only appears every few thousand years?
Dragonets were said to stop growing at a certain age, yet Darkstalker became Godzilla sized and was the biggest dragon ever.
Not a question but can we all agree the othermind is just terrifying?
Why hasn't dragon society advanced that much in thousands of years? Sure the perspective and customs of the tribes have changed, but they haven't made any technologically achievements. On pantala they have glass greenhouses, plumbing, books and such, whereas on phyrrah they are still old fashioned
Where did dragons come from? Did they evolve from a common ancestor? Were they made in labs as part of the post apocalyptic worlds idea? Were they made by some dragon god? All three?
That's all my questions for now

April 2018 - Of Heritage and Hairy Old Ball Bags
When she told me they had joined the National Front I wept in my mother’s arms. How could my own parents choose a future in which angry old white people would bar my way and tell me where I should and shouldn’t be, whilst ranting evangelically about the superiority of British heritage? Not to mention the grossly over-priced cakes. I knew she meant the National Trust - the closest Mother B gets to fascism is asking Alexa to play ‘Pencil Full of Lead’ by Benito Mussolini - but Sundays would be changed forever. “It’ll be a nice thing for us to do as a family,” she threatened, “and you will love the animals.”
Like most Baby Boomers, Mother and Father B keep themselves constantly busy so that they can moan about how lazy younger generations are. They realised early in retirement that they would need to expand on their existing hobbies – for her, writing lists; for him, being left lists – and took up some new ones. These included swimming without getting anyone’s hair wet, sleeping through Madam Secretary (variously known by Mother B as American Secretary, Madam President, The President’s Secretary or American Madam), spreading the Gospel of Lidl and, now, withholding roast dinners from their only child until he’s poked around some ancient racist’s crumbling pile.
I was lured to Knole with the prospect of baby deer (in the grounds, not to eat) and was promised that George Bernard Shaw’s house had a live-in cat called Molly. Sadly I didn’t get a sniff of Shavian pussy, but there is an impressive painting of a cock in the hall. Most recently I was taken hostage at Smallhythe Place, country residence of the Victorians’ favourite Shakespearean actress Ellen Terry and subsequently her raving lesbian daughter Edy. “You had me at raving,” I said. We set off at 9am on Sunday morning.
Membership of the National Trust was a big investment for a man who has been known to drive from one supermarket to another to save 4p on milk, but Father B has a patented plan of attack to maximise value from any visit to a stately home. As we pulled up outside the sprawling medieval manor, he switched off his compilation CD of 70s TV themes and reminded us what to do: interrogate the guides until they crack, collect every piece of reading material which is not superglued to a Foamex board and use the toilet facilities as fully and rigorously as possible. We entered.
The rooms were low-ceilinged and crammed with theatrical bibelots; programmes, posters, stage shoes and jewellery, here a buckle worn by Fred Terry in the Scarlet Pimpernel, there a coin token for the pit at Covent Garden from 1762, everything strung with dried wreaths from some long ago production of Romeo & Juliet. On one side a mannequin gowned in Lady Macbeth’s famous beetlewing costume, on the other a life-sized bowling pin wrapped in a tartan pelmet… no, wait. The bowling pin moved and revealed itself to be a shiny-headed man in a kilt. He leaned close to Ellen Terry’s death mask and said in an American accent, “hello dear.”
She didn’t respond and, fearing that we would be expected to, I hustled my parents towards a steep narrow staircase in the corner. “This is like the fun house at Peter Purves’ Playground,” said Mother B, taking each step as laboriously as Queen Victoria re-entering her bathing machine. “You mean Peter Pan’s Playground,” I said, “and hurry up before-“
King Pin approached to make his ascent. “What have we up here?” he asked Queen Victoria’s bum. “I’ve been touring the British Isles to connect with my past and I’m constantly surprised by how small everything is, you know?” The bum did not know. I abandoned the foot of the stairs and tried to engross myself in a small wooden box once owned by David Garrick.
“You must keep following the arrows,” said a guide, with all the customer engagement skills of a guard at Bergen-Belsen. “But this was made from a mulberry tree planted by The Bard himself,” I said, “perhaps you could tell me a little more?” She reached for the box as though to use it as a weapon and repeated, slowly, “you must... keep… following… the arrows.”
Trapped between the advancing guard and the ascending American, I span. Within seconds the true horror of the situation became clear. Every step King Pin took up the vertiginous staircase raised the hem of his kilt closer to my eye line. Penned in by the narrow walls and compelled to look up, as he took one last lunge to gain the landing I beheld the curve of something pendulous, as heavy and dream-stealing as a tax-collector’s purse.
Ignoring the heckling guard, I fled against the arrows, scattering little white-haired visitors as though I’d dropped a tub of cotton buds, every hanging gewgaw seeming to swing scrotally towards me, gasping for air.
Later my parents found me in the cobweb-strewn cafe. Mother B said it looked like I was taking tea with Miss Faversham, though it was coffee as I couldn’t look a teabag in the face.
Smallhythe Place is open from April to October. Ellen Terry died there in 1928 after an illustrious fifty-year stage career. Mother B refers to her as Helen Terry. Helen Terry was a backing vocalist for Culture Club. Father B bought four pints of semi-skimmed in Lidl for £1.05. John just flinched away from a sack of satsumas.
