GUNSLINGER SPAWN title is expected to shatter even more comic book records, like the recent King Spawn #1
- The NEW and HIGHLY anticipated Gunslinger Spawn series hits comic store shelves this October as part of Todd McFarlane's ongoing expansion of the Spawn Universe. Much to the excitement of old and new Spawn fans alike, the title is expected to shatter even more comic book records, like the recent King Spawn #1, which sold over a half-million copies. This will be the third number one release that will climb into the #1 spot for orders in less than five months.
Tumblr media
Early indications suggest this will be the single biggest monthly comic book launch for a new character in well over 30 years, which includes any superhero publisher, including Marvel and DC Comics.
The new comic title features Gunslinger Spawn, a man out of time who is unwillingly thrust 200 years into the future to the 21st Century. Not only does he have to navigate a new world, but he'll have to deal with the demons of his past. No one is safe from his vengeance as he heads into battle with guns blazing as he tries to find his way back home.
Tumblr media
Acclaimed artist Brett Booth will be the featured artist on this book, with additional art by Philip Tan, Kevin Keane, and Thomas Nachlik, with colors by FCO, Andrew Dalhouse, and others. Gunslinger Spawn #1 will feature covers by a roster of superstar artists: Greg Capullo, John Romita Jr., TonTon Revolver, Booth, McFarlane, and The Walking Dead creator, Robert Kirkman! McFarlane will take the lead on writing the regular ongoing story, and he and Aleš Kot tackle the back-up tales.
Gunslinger Spawn #1 cover G adds another level of excitement to this new ongoing series. With pencils by Booth and inks by McFarlane, this cover, along with both the King Spawn #1 and The Scorched #1 (releasing in December 2021), interconnects to form one epic work of art.
Tumblr media
Gunslinger Spawn #1 includes a 1:250 retailer incentive cover for retailers who order 250 copies. McFarlane will hand-sign and create a unique sequential number for each issue just like he did for the record-breaking King Spawn #1 (based on the Final Order Cutoff total). Each signed Gunslinger Spawn #1 1:250 includes a CGC Certificate of Authenticity that retailers can send in and redeem through CGC to have their books graded. This is the only time McFarlane will sign the Gunslinger Spawn#1 1:250 incentive copy issue.
Additionally, a Gunslinger Spawn #1 1:50 incentive variant cover by Capullo will be offered to retailers who order 50 copies.
For every 250 Gunslinger Spawn #1 issues ordered, retailers will become eligible to order five incentive covers of Gunslinger Spawn #1 by Capullo and one Gunslinger Spawn #1 McFarlane incentive cover.
"Gunslinger Spawn returns with a vengeance, and he will make Spawn look like a Boy Scout," said McFarlane, Spawn creator and President at Image Comics. "Finally, fans will get a glimpse into his history as we dig deeper into his past and explore his future."
The Spawn character was first introduced in 1992, to a record-setting of 1.7 million copies that still stands today as the highest-selling, creator-owned comic issue of all time. Published by Image Comics (the third largest comic publisher in North America), the Spawn character also set a record as the longest-running, creator-owned comic on the planet when issue #301 was published in 2019. In August 2021, the newest Spawn Universe title King Spawn #1 sales numbers demolished The Avengers' record and became a 25-year record-breaking new superhero monthly title launch.
Gunslinger Spawn #1 will be available at comic book shops (48 pages, full color, rated: Teen+, $5.99, premium 10 pt cover stock) and on digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play on Wednesday, October 20: ·  Cover A by Booth - Diamond Code AUG210013 ·  Cover B by McFarlane - Diamond Code AUG210014 ·  Cover C by John Romita Jr. - Diamond Code JUL219298 ·  Cover D by Greg Capullo - Diamond Code JUL219299 ·  Cover E by Robert Kirkman - Diamond Code JUL219300 ·  Cover F by TonTon Revolver - Diamond Code JUL219301 ·  Cover G by Booth (Connecting Cover) - Diamond Code JUL219302 ·  Cover H 1:50 copy incentive by Capullo (Raw Pencils) - Diamond Code JUL219303 ·  Cover I 1:250 copy signed incentive by McFarlane - Diamond Code JUL219304

Recap Roundup
Homeland Season 7 Episode 4 “Like Bad At Things”
Vulture - written by Brian Tallerico
“Homeland centers this week’s episode on a bloody nightmare in the heartland. A big departure from globetrotting tales of governmental betrayal and espionage, “Like Bad at Things” tells the story of a disturbingly believable disaster, even before Saul Berenson draws direct parallels to Waco and Ruby Ridge. In those real-world cases, violence erupted between the U.S. government and those who no longer trusted or believed in it — and similar cases will likely happen again. Hopefully, if that day comes, it won’t be as horrific as the end of this week’s Homeland.”
AV Club - written by Scott Von Doviak
“This is not fake news: Homeland can still deliver the escalating tension and dread exploding into chaos that made it a hit in the first place. “Like Bad At Things” is easily the best episode of the season, and maybe in years. It’s not perfect—there’s still a little too much of Carrie’s domestic drama for my liking—but writers Patrick Harbinson and Chip Johannessen and director Alex Graves have pulled a shaky season on track with a genuine nail-biter.”
“...then Carrie is late to pick up Franny for the 479th time in this show’s history. Look, the die is cast here. The decision to give Carrie a child was made long ago, and the creative team is sticking with it despite every opportunity to have the kid seized by CPS or raised by someone else. I’m sure the theory is that it adds an extra layer of meaning and complication to every decision Carrie makes; here her pursuit of the evidence against Wellington clashes with her well-being as she’s forced to buy black market uppers to combat the prescription sedative her sister insists she keep taking. I find it hard to care because we’ve been down this road so many times before and it really feels like a too-easy shot of personal drama that the writers can inject at any time. Besides, Carrie is a terrible mother. I don’t know how you argue against it at this point.”
TVLine - written by Dave Nemetz
“Wellington, weirdly, admitted to Keane that he lied and authorized that Syrian air strike without her permission, claiming she needed one “in the win column” — and Carrie was listening in, via Max’s webcams. Wellington offered to resign, but insisted he just wants to help show the world Keane can be a great President. Um, by overriding her direct order? Good to know our first female president will just have her agenda shouted down by mansplainers anyway.”
Entertainment Weekly - written by Shirley Li
“It makes sense that this episode begins with the sound of sirens. Keane has lost control of her chief of staff, her administration, her image. Brett O’Keefe, too, of his domain in Lucasville. By the end of the hour, the high-wire act Saul’s trying to pull off turns into an all-out war. Of course, Carrie’s story remains the only thread grinding all the tension to a halt...”
“The fact that Dante has changed his mind just four episodes in worries me; why is he so invested now? Sure, the proof she’s gathered so far does seem solid, but is immediately diving into an illegal plan the smartest move? Could he be interested in… something else?  Whatever the case may be, it’s a story that still feels built on too shaky a foundation and has only continued to minimize Carrie’s role. I suspect that’ll change soon; now that Saul has brought in Brett O’Keefe, Keane will want to bury Brett, and Wellington will need to make more moves to push forward whatever agenda he has on his mind. Maybe that’ll bring everyone together. For now, though, all Carrie has is another plan — and a new man with whom to carry it out.”

Week 10: Audience Interactivity and the Loser-Watch
Well you wouldn`t guess what happened the day after I wrote Blog number 9. I was working on The First Light and it tipped over and exploded into a thousand pieces. Every single thing I do out of love ends up being smashed and I`m left with less than what I had to begin with. I am in the process of rebuilding her but damn did I ever jinx something like that happening. I don`t know what it`s like reading my blogs but I hope it`s more funny than it is depressing.
Regardless here we are at interactive online audiences. I like how the way the textbook and course is set up is sort of chronological. Each chapter brings us to a more modern theory. That`s a good way to have things laid out honestly. Makes me feel like I`m really understanding the progression of audiences and how they`ve interacted with their media over the course of history, rather than just over the course of a bunch of dull ass theories. I am a highly interactive online audience member. I comment, like, favorite, donate, until recently I did online fan dedications. I am a guy who does a lot of online audience interaction with the media I enjoy. In seminar I was told to use the blog to discuss my Loser-watch. If you don`t recall, Loser-watch is a habit I have developed wherein I consume the content put out by mostly unheard of individuals who, for one reason or another, fascinate me. These ‘losers’, as it were, tend to be poor, eccentric and unemployed. Because of their usually destitute situations, I donate to their patreons, paypals, gofundmes etc. I figure if I’m going to consume the free content put out by these people, I might as well sling them a few dollars while I’m at it. Because you requested to know who some of these ‘losers’ are, I shall indulge you:
Brett Keane – Internet scam artist from Missouri whose religious flip-flops, bizarre speech patterns and mysterious onslaught of illnesses make for an intriguing if not occasionally upsetting spectacle.
Tumblr media
Christine Weston Chandler – Autistic trans woman from Virginia whose life has been very carefully catalogued by a set of dedicated fans. One of the more popular individuals I follow, Christine’s life is a tragic but fascinating one.
Tumblr media
Abby Brown – A dreadful rapper but a strangely kind soul, Abby is lovably innocent but also incredibly dim-witted and this combination makes for a unique individual whose antics range from cringe-inducing to heart warming.
Tumblr media
Christopher Anderson – A friend of Brett Keane’s, Chris Anderson’s life is nothing short of insane. A once popular youtuber from 2007 now wallows in obscurity and, in many ways, absurdity. Plagued with mental health issues and addictions, Anderson’s unfolding story is sobering to say the least.
Tumblr media
There are a few others but I’ll spare you for now. While I am a very active audience member when it comes to the online media I enjoy, I try to keep a real distance from the people mentioned above. Despite giving them money, I have never commented on any of their videos or had conversations with them or any of their fans. As an avid user of the internet, I have learned when it is good to be an active audience member and when it is wise to keep quiet. When it comes to dealing with the individuals above, I don’t feel like I could gain anything from talking to them or bothering them. I also hold a tiny little bit of fear when it comes to a few of them. Regardless when it comes to online communities that I am active in, I would say the one I engage most with is the Star Wars wiki known simply as Wookieepedia. As a long time lover of the galaxy far far away and an avid consumer of all things star wars from video games to books to comics to the movies to the television shows, I consider myself more than qualified to edit the pages on Wookieepedia. I edit existing pages more than I actually create new pages for things. The situation tends to be that pages exist for nearly everything however the quality of said pages is highly variable. As a particular scholar in alien species and Clone Wars era chronology, I often find myself editing the pages for certain battles and events that took place between 22 BBY and 19 BBY and a variety of creatures who often have criminally underwritten pages.
Yes, I know what you’re thinking. I belong on a Loser-watch myself. Well jokes on you because now that my YouTube channel is dead, all the info about me is basically erased.
Also before I wrap things up, I need to say how much I admire all of those companies that did the viral marketing campaigns wherein they had the fans submit their own designs/inventions to the company. Using the internet’s massive reach to essentially get marketing work done for free is absolutely genius. Even with the Starbucks one where they offered the job to the person who submitted the best design- Starbucks got tons and tons and tons of people to basically advertise Starbucks for free. Because everybody posted their stupid cup designs when that campaign was going on and sure enough, front and center was that putrid grinning capitalist mermaid. Hats off the wily bastards down at Starbucks. They know what’s up. That’s just about a thousand words then. Six more. Four more. Two more. Done.

CANTLON'S CORNER: WOLF PACK OFF SEASON VOLUME 14
Tumblr media
BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - With just about sixty days remaining until the start of the 2019-'20 professional hockey season gets underway, teams are beginning to ramp up their final roster decisions and making more signings. PLAYER & COACHING MOVEMENT The Hartford Wolf Pack have been busy. They announced the signing of a forward, Lewis Zerter-Gossage, to a one-year, AHL deal. Zerter-Gossage played four years at Harvard (ECACHL) playing in 128 games scoring 42 goals adding 43 helpers for 85 points. He joined the Wolf Pack at the end of last season on an ATO deal. Zerter-Gossage played in five games in which he tallied two goals. He played his prep school hockey in Connecticut at Kent, which is also where Rangers head coach David Quinn played when he was a young man. The Rangers made it official and brought out Kevin Shattenkirk (Greenwich/Brunswick Prep). The move gives the Rangers immediate cap relief for this year. It puts the Blueshirts under the $81.5M cap at $80.4M. The team's two remaining UFA’s, Brendan Lemieux and Tony DeAngelo, are expected to play for their NHL qualifying offers for this coming season. Coming from out of left-field, former New Haven Nighthawk, and Hartford Whaler, Paul Fenton, was relieved of his duties as the Minnesota Wild's GM after just one season. In a "Hide-and-seek" move to rid the team of the contract of ex-Wolf Pack and Ranger, Ryan Callahan, who you may remember retired last month as a result of a diagnosis of degenerative back disease, was “dealt” by the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Ottawa Senators along with a fifth-round pick in the 2020 entry draft for goalie Mike Condon and a sixth-round 2020 draft pick. Sens had the cap space to spare while Tampa needed to create some. Totally legal within CBA rules. Tampa Bay also signed ex-Sound Tiger, Stephen Gionta, as an amateur scout. Ex-Pack, Vince Pedrie played very sparingly in Hartford last year and included an ECHL reassignment to the Maine Mariners before being released. He then signed with the Milwaukee Admirals where he played quality minutes into the Western Conference Final has signed with the Tucson Roadrunners on an AHL contract for next season. Ex-Sound Tiger, Casey Bailey, returns from HC Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia–KHL) and signs a try-out deal with the Hershey Bears. Wade Megan (South Kent Prep) who played with the Grand Rapids Griffins last season and had some recall time with the Detroit Red Wings, announced his retirement at age 29. He will concentrate on his hockey school in his native Canton, NY. The Charlotte Checkers announced the hiring of Pat Dwyer as a new assistant for new head coach Ryan Warsofsky. On the same day of his hire, Dwyer announced his retirement as a player after spending last season with the Belfast Giants (Northern Ireland-EIHL). The Texas Stars announced the retirement of Travis Morin, 35, and noted that his number 23 will be retired. It was also announced that he is being hired as a skills development coach. Former New Haven Nighthawk, and Hartford Whalers draft pick, Jerome “Boom-Boom” Bechard, has been hired to be one of two associate coaches with the expansion Columbus (GA) Fire Dragons (FHL). He coached the SPHL Columbus Cottonmouth for seven years before the team folded after the 2016-17 season. Matt Finn, who played four games in Hartford with the Wolf Pack, as well as with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, and had two other AHL PTO signing stops in Ontario and Grand Rapids, signs in Europe with EHC Linz (Austria-EBEL). Finn played the majority of his season with the Florida Everblades (ECHL). Jamie Arniel, the nephew of former Nighthawk and Rangers assistant coach, Scott Arniel, split last season with Vienna (Austria-EBEL) and then Augsburger (Germany-DEL) has signed with HC Bolzano  (Italy-EBEL). Another pair of Euro AHL signings. Bobby Farnham of Springfield signs with Belfast (Northern Ireland-EIHL). Ryan Murphy, who played with two AHL teams (Binghamton, Iowa) and two NHL squads (New Jersey, Minnesota), signs with Neftekhimik (Russia-KHL) making 63 AHL’ers to sign overseas for the upcoming season. European camps start in the next week. Ex-Pack, Brendan Kotyk, re-signs with Toledo (ECHL). Ex-Sound Tiger, Scott Burt, is named the new assistant coach with Boise (ECHL). Ex-Sound Tiger, and Rangers draft pick, Daniel Maggio, leaves Norfolk (ECHL) for Herning IK Blue Fox (Norway-NEL). Ex-Sound Tiger, Alan Letang, the head coach for Owen Sound (OHL), has been added to the Canadian WJC Team as a scout. Former Whaler, Jody Hull, signs a two-year extension as the head coach of the Niagara IceDogs (OHL). He hires a longtime AHL’er Mark Mancari, as a new assistant coach. Mancari played in Rochester, Portland, Chicago, and San Antonio. He concluded a four-year stint in the German DEL to end his playing career. The Sudbury Wolves (OHL) have hired one-time Whalers scout, Tony MacDonald. He went to North Carolina and worked with the Hurricanes and retired there as the Director of Amateur Scouting after the draft in Vancouver. He was their top scout for the final three years in Hartford. He will be a Special Advisor in Sudbury. The Wolves also hired a new assistant coach. He is long-time AHL enforcer, Zach Stortini, who retires from Charlotte to become the Wolves second assistant coach replacing former Nighthawk and Springfield Indian, Bud Stefanski. Stefanski coached with his son-in-law, the team's head coach, Corey Stillman, last year. He officially retires from coaching. Stortini finished 16th on the all-time AHL PIM list with 1,825 in 603 AHL games. He tallied 109 points and played 257 NHL gamers with 41 points and 725 PIM. He is also the all-time PM leader in Sudbury history with 746 in 247 games. His total numbers, 1,109 games played, 124 goals scored, 270 total points, and 3,296 PIM. A few more to add in college player signing categories. Meirs Moore, from RPI (ECACHL), signs with the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL). His college teammate, Brady Wiffens, signs with the Reading Royals (ECACHL).  Spencer Trapp of Holy Cross (AHA), signs with South Carolina as well. Trapp’s older brother, Bear Trapp, played four years for Sacred Heart University. Liam Morgan leaves two years early from Union College (ECACHL) and heads to Belfast (Northern Ireland-EIHL). Jack Jenkins of Notre Dame (Big 10), signs with the Indy Fuel (ECHL). Marly Quince of Clarkson University (ECACHL) heads to the Adirondack Thunder (ECHL) while Brett Supinski of Union College (ECACHL) inks a deal with the Rangers' secondary farm team, the Maine Mariners (ECHL). He did play two games in the spring with the Ontario Reign. That makes for 188 Division I players to have signed North American pro deals Cory Anderson of Division III's Manhattanville College (UCHC) signs with Huntsville (SPHL) making 24 Division III players to have signed pro deals. 50 college players have signed in Europe and 254 overall between Division I and III have signed. The first Canadian college transfer occurs as Andrew Dodson of the University Alabama-Huntsville (WCHA) will play for the University of Guelph Gryphons (OUAA). There was just one college transfer to the Canadian major junior ranks as Sam Comrie leaves Denver University (NCHC) for Kelowna (WHL). Former Sacred Heart University assistant coach, Josh Beal, is hired as an assistant coach with Bentley University (AHA). Ex-Pack, Layne Ulmer, 38, retires after four strong seasons at Cardiff (Wales-EIHL) that included several championships, He is retiring from hockey and moving back to Canada. Ex-Pack, Juris Stals, re-signs with HK Kurpads (Latvia-LHL). Ex-Pack, Richard Nejezchleb, goes from HC Nova Zamsky (Slovakia-SLEL) to HC Poruba (Czech Republic Division-2). Goalie, Kohl Reddy, leaves Loomis Chaffe Prep (Windsor) for Kirkland Lake of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, (NOJHL) one of the ten Canadian Junior A leagues. One of the all-time wildest players in AHL and minor pro history, Kevin “Killer” Kaminski, becomes the head coach of the La Ronge Wolves (SJHL). UCONN ANNOUNCES REMAINDER OF 2019 CLASS After reporting several of the incoming freshmen class for UCONN, the school announced the remainder of their incoming class. There is plenty of reason for optimism when the group hops over the boards on opening night October 5th in Bridgeport at the Webster Bank Arena against Sacred Heart University (AHA). Jacob Flynn, Defenseman - Bridgewater, Mass./Thayer Academy (USHS-MA Prep) The 5-foot-10 defenseman from Bridgewater, Mass., concluded his high school career in 2018-19 at Thayer Academy.  Flynn was Thayer’s top-defenseman this past season. In 2016-17, the second Texas-born and bred Huskies goaltender, comes out of the Dallas Stars U-16/U-18 program. The other was Rob Nichols (Dallas) who played from 2013-2017. He will be the number two goalie behind returning sophomore, and Czech native, Tomas Vomacka. Yan Kuznetsov, Defenseman - Murmansk, Russia/Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL) The 6-3 defenseman from Murmansk, Russia comes to Storrs after playing last season in the USHL with the Sioux Falls Stampede, the 2019 Clark Cup champions. He was the 157th overall pick in the 10th round of USHL Futures Draft in 2018. Kuznetsov played in 34 games and had four assists. In international play, in November, he helped lead Team Russia to its fourth gold medal in the six-game showcase, World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in New Brunswick, Canada. In addition to earning a medal, he was named to the WHC All-Star team.  He also played for Russia’s U16 team in 2017-18 and has skated for CSKA Moscow U-16.18 squads as well. No relation to the former pro player Sergei Kuznetsov. Harrison Rees, Defenseman - Oakville, Ontario/North York Rangers (OJHL) The 6-2 defenseman from Oakville, Ontario has played the last two seasons with North York of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).  In 2018-19, he helped lead the Rangers to the top of the OJHL South Division while putting up 44 points on six goals and 38 assists in 53 games.  In 16 playoff games this past season, Rees scored six goals with seven assists. At the end of the season, he was named to the 2018-19 OJHL All-Star second team. In 2017-18, Rees had a 14 points season in 50 games, scoring three goals with 11 assists.  He spent the 2016-17 season with The Hill Academy's U16 Prep team, playing in 12 games. In 2016, he was drafted in the 11th round, 221st overall pick of the OHL Priority Draft by the Erie Otters. The foursome all join previously announced incoming players of, Carter Berger (North Vancouver, British Columbia), Matej Blümel (Tabor, Czech Republic), Vladislav Firstov (Yaroslavl, Russia) and Eric Linell (Great Neck, N.Y.). They round out this coming season’s eight-player freshmen class. This year’s class features three players taken in June’s NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, Firstov (Minnesota/2nd round/42nd overall), Blumel (Edmonton/4th round/100th overall) and Berger (Florida/4th round /106th overall). (Portions of a UCONN press release were used in the formation of this piece) WORLD JUNIOR SUPER SUMMER SHOWCASE Now in its third year in Plymouth, MI, this a summer hockey appetizer preview of the World Junior Championship. This year it will be held in Ostrava, and Trinec, Czech Republic. The four countries that participate are the host US, Sweden, Canada, and Finland. The US team features a few important names including the NY Rangers first-round pick (22nd overall) in 2018 in defenseman K’Andre Miller of the University of Wisconsin. It also includes a pair of former Avon Old Farms Players in Spencer Knight (Darien/Boston College), Trevor Zegras (Boston University), and Christian Krygier. Also on the list is the son of former Whaler, UCONN Husky, and Nighthawk, Matthias Samuelsson (Western Michigan) who is the son of ex-Nighthawk, Kjell Samuelsson. Lastly, there's Shane Pinto (US Selects Academy at South Kent Prep). Rangers draft pick, Zac Jones, (Tri-City USHL 2019, third round, 68th overall), a defenseman, and current Sound Tiger, Oliver Wahlstrom, and Jack Drury (Harvard), the son of former Whaler, Ted Drury who also is the nephew of Wolf Pack GM, Chris Drury from Trumbull. On Friday, Miller had another solid offensive rush from the US goal-line but was denied as Rangers' President John Davidson was in attendance. In the waning minutes of the first period, Cole Caufield, and Drury were each denied on Grade-A chances. Miller nailed Drury with a shot in front of the net, and he, of course, was back at in the second period. The US battled back from a 4-1 deficit after giving up four goals of the seven scored in the second period. They got a late goal from Trevor Zegras with 1:31 left in regulation but fell one short in the 6-5 loss to Finland despite 51 shots on goal. Miller assisted on Zegras' tally, and Drury added a power play goal from the right-wing circle set-up by Caulfield. The US routed Sweden on Wednesday, 6-0. Knight recorded the shutout with 22 saves. His best work came in the first period stopping four point-blank shots including one on Ranger prospect, Karl Henriksson. His former Avon Old Farms teammate, Zegras, scored one of the six goals while Jones has another strong game with an assist and five shots on goal. The US lost to Canada 4-1 in the opener with Caulfield scoring the only US goal. Miller had two good strong plays, one on a coast-to-coast rush and a screen shot that Canadian netminder Olivier Rodrique snatched away from the top right corner spot he was shooting for. Miller set up Drury for an in-front tip in play, but that was denied by Rodrigue as well. The series concluded with the US winning over Canada on Saturday. Of note on the other three teams are Jack McBain of Canada, the son of former New Haven Senator, Andrew McBain, and the goalie coach for Canada is all-time Wolf Pack great, Jason LaBarbera. Sweden had three Ranger draft picks in defenseman Nils Lundkvist (2018 first-round, 24th overall), Karl Henriksson (2019 second-round, 58th overall) and goalie, Olof Lindbom (2018 second round, 39th overall). While both are eligible to play in the WJC in December, both Jack Hughes (New Jersey), and Kaapo Kakko (Rangers) are expected to be in the NHL and were not invited to this tourney. Youtuber Brett Keane is a time aberration, but the Legends chose not to fix it as he's less a danger to history and more a sad petty wash up on the internet. Though they opted not to check out his gaming channel, GamesULove.

TODD McFARLANE reveals 2021 the year of SPAWN
On Thursday, Feb. 18th, Image Comics' President Todd McFarlane announced his bold attempt at creating his own multi-character, interconnected comic book universe. His stated goal is to establish a shared fictional universe over time in the vein of what the other comic industry giants, Marvel, and DC Comics, have accomplished with their comic book universes.
Tumblr media
The announcement was given by McFarlane during a first look presentation at the Direct Market Retailers at the Annual ComicsPRO Conference.
The character Spawn, created by McFarlane, will be at the forefront of the initial launch of new titles, but the long-term goal is that Spawn will become but one of many characters that will succeed not only in the comics industry but in many mediums across the globe.
McFarlane will capitalize on the twenty-eight-year success story of Spawn, which has seen sales increase between 150 to 600% from pre-pandemic orders. The Spawn title currently is a top 5 monthly selling title on the Diamond Distributors Top 100 Chart. Recently, a new release of a Spawn figure on Kickstarter set a new Kickstarter record, in its category, for raising just under $3.5 million in 30 days. That figure was also recently awarded the prestigious People's Choice 2021 Toy of The Year (TOTY) by The Toy Association, Inc.
As part of his announcement, McFarlane announced four new titles coming out in 2021, with three of them continuing as regular monthly titles, meaning that there will be an opportunity for fans of the Spawn character and his new expanding world to get their stories from it on a weekly basis instead of just twelve times a year.
"The simple question is this: DC Comics started a shared universe in the late 1930s. Marvel Comics began theirs in the early 1960s… so, can lightning strike a third time beginning in 2021? I personally do not have the answer to that question right now, but the only way to get an answer to that question is to make the attempt in the first place, "said McFarlane, Image president, and Spawn Creator. "This is a long-intended plan that will need the help of dozens and dozens of creators to help create hundreds and hundreds of characters. And then to reward those creators if any of their ideas pay off in a big way outside of the comic industry. The quest isn't to have our ideas exclusively live in the comic book industry but to have merit and value outside of that industry as well. My character Spawn has been an example of what can happen with creation… so, what are the possibilities if hundreds of creations are brought together? Marvel and DC Comics have shown us that a collective group of characters, together, in a shared universe can resonate globally. I think it is time for David to attempt to join the same arena as the Goliaths of the world."
In June, in what McFarlane is calling "2021 the Year of Spawn," comic retailers will be able to order SPAWN'S UNIVERSE #1. This will be a book that will set the stage with a story that will then spill out into the other new monthly titles. The first title will release in August with a book called KING SPAWN #1. The character Spawn will now join the rare company of stalwart characters, like Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man, that will have multiple monthly books for the same title character. It will also mark the first time in twenty-eight years that anyone can buy a monthly issue #1 Spawn book. It gives McFarlane hope of reaching a new generation of readers that missed out on the initial launch of the Spawn back in 1992.
In October comes the second new monthly called GUNSLINGER SPAWN. This title character has been a huge hit among the fanbase over the past year, and each of his appearances has garnered enthusiasm at the stores and online.
Finally, there will be a new #1 team book, which will band five characters together to fight against forces too big for any of them to take on alone. That book is titled THE SCORCHED. Spawn, Redeemer, Gunslinger, Medieval Spawn, and She-Spawn begins the group's adventures. However, McFarlane promises a rotating cast of heroes over the coming months to keep the roster of heroes fresh. He also said that he would be bringing in new major villains into the fold, too.
Tumblr media
To lend a creative hand on some of this expanding list of titles, McFarlane has recruited an all-star list of comic book creators such as Art Adams, Jason Shawn Alexander, Carlo Barberi, Brett Booth, J. Scott Campbell, Greg Capullo, Donny Cates, Jim Cheung, Mike del Mundo, Javier Fernandez, David Finch, Jonathan Glapion, Kevin Keane, Aleš Kot, Puppeteer Lee, Sean Lewis, Sean Gordon Murphy, Ben Oliver, Stephen Segovia, Paulo Siqueira, Marc Silvestri, Marcio Takara, and Frank Quitely, as well as others he will be announcing in the coming months.
All of this just continued to build on the mythology of Spawn and his world. The original SPAWN book is one of the world's bestselling and longest-running comics, with over 100 million copies sold in more than 120 countries.
In 2019, McFarlane made history with the release of the historic SPAWN #300 and record-breaking SPAWN #301. These milestones have earned McFarlane the Guinness World Records title for the world's longest-running creator-owned comic book series. SPAWN #300 became the 2nd highest-selling comic title and was also the only character to place two of its issues in the Top 11 for highest-selling issues for that year.
A new movie of SPAWN is currently in development with BlumHouse Studios, Jamie Foxx, and Jeremy Renner, all attached to the project as McFarlane will be making his directorial debut on the film when it goes into production.
