In the 1500's setting Vasco lives and was born in Florence, his family has lived there for centuries. Machete was born in Sicily, was taken to Naples to serve as an apprentice and ended up living and working in Rome (and more specifically today's Vatican city, which as you may know has been an independent country since 1929 but wasn't back then). They first met when they were both studying in Venice in their late teens/early twenties.

I think in the modern au they live together somewhere in Florence.

I think one interesting thing I’m grappling with in my quest to solarpunkify my life is how little control I have over what I can do in the stage of life I’m in now.

Like my ideal self would have a big, booming garden with dozens of food plants and bench seats and swings and a bunch of pollinator gardens in the front and backyard with a pond for wildlife. I can grow tons of food for neighbors and community initiatives, and host get togethers (bonus points if I have a fantastic colored-panel greenhouse like I’ve fantasized about before). I’d have solar panels wherever they’d fit, all kinds of lovely decorations, and live as green as possible. I’d eagerly give out seeds for pollinator friendly plants in one of those front yard seed boxes I’ve seen, maybe have a community fridge nearby as well. I’d be able to guerrilla garden and help with community initiatives, but still have free time to spend on myself, my art, my crafts. And a cat.

There’s plenty that gets in the way of that though. I don’t have a job, so I can’t have the big booming garden of my dreams. I live with my parents, and they don’t want the kind of lifestyle and decorations and such that I would. My mom doesn’t even like cats, or half the neighbors in the cul de sac. I can encourage and poke and prod my parents all I want, but at the end of the day its their house and what they want/can afford goes, and its not really what I want. Not to even mention that I’m shy, overall not very corageous, and more or less have no idea what I’m doing or how to navigate this world.

It’s definitely an interesting position to be in. And frustrating.

#hm. thinking about death and all that #bc the other day my mom texted me and my sisters to say shes added another cancer to her repertoire #shes had smooth muscle cancer for the past maybe 10 years but in the last year shes gotten a lot sicker #idk how long shes been stage 4 but shes got tumors in her liver. bladder. and maybe a kidney. and now shes also got like pre leukemia #she like deff got it from chemo treatment so now shes gotta try to go get a different treatment #but the type of mds she has is more likely to be treatment resistant and advance to acute myloid leukemia #so idk maybe itll go well. right now she still feels okay. but it just feels like the beginning of the end #so death has been on my mind the past few days #i feel mostly fine bc i think my medication is actually working. i just feel like im waiting for the other shoe to drop ya kno #and selfishly if she dies in the next 4 years itll b a real clusterfuck for my life #but i dunno her life has been super unfair and it sucks that she has to go thru all this #also when i was home last her hair looked insane bc she lost most of it but didnt shave what was left so she had new hair growing short #underneath and all i could think when i looked at her was: we r at the end of vanity. bc im a goblin #unrelated

naruto as a character is so frustrating because the few flaws he does have are painted in a positive light and continuously reinforced. the story bends over backwards to prove him right. and this makes him such a one-dimensional character in the long run, you know? and over the course of the story, his character assassination is worse because what can you tell him about his character journey? what did he learn? “naruto is an aspiration!” but why? because he suffered from abandonment issues and refused to give up on sasuke who he tied to his self-worth? because he forgave the village for the injustice he faced since he had internalized the blame and thought there was something wrong with him?

pre-shippuden and early shippuden until the pain arc was so enlightening because that’s when we see the real naruto with his flaws and the things he struggled with. he was questioning everything and that was setting the path for what kind of hokage he was going to be. it’s a shame they diluted a character with actual character development.

seeing a lot of tags on that "pleasure to have in class" post like "I was a teacher's pet until I wasn't" and upon reflection, I guess that's true of me, too.

like 95% of my teachers loved me, wrote me rave letters for college, hung out with me outside of class, etc... but there was that one time that I... technically assaulted a teacher...

he never said a word about it because I had been pushed and I'm fairly sure he would have gotten in as much trouble as I did. so I guess it was kind of like mutually assured destruction...?

but statute of limitations has passed now, so I'll admit that I did quite literally throw the book at a very inappropriate and sexist teacher. um. a textbook, in fact.
