Ohohohohoh these are some very good ones I say as I'm maniacally rubbing my hands together to as I begin try and cook up the satisfying answers that you deserve

break: What would cause your OC to break down completely? What do they look like when that happens? Has anyone ever seen them at their lowest?

The thing with gil is that he is just ian unreliable narrator in his own life. I think that's why this fandom really bought into the awesome Prussia shtick he was selling. You have to read between the forty lines and decode everything to really see the whole picture of how broken he is. He speaks in metaphors, humour, and half truths. It's not going to register with someone like Feliks, but to someone like Ivan and Tolys it does.

So I think the biggest thing to surefire break him is to harm Ludwig however Gil can break in other ways it doesn't take something like that. He breaks I just need to figure out how but I can tell in cta you know how to do that more effectively than I can and I'm excited. I just need more time to figure it out.

Ooh this reminds me of something I read involving planes and this guy was talking about the stakes of him dying in a plane crash. It didn't bother him until he had someone to live for such as his son. That's where I kinda see Gil in terms of Ludwig.

guilt: What is your OC guilty about? How do they handle their guilt? Do they try to avoid guilt, or do they accept it?

Tolys is plagued by guilt. He believes himself guilty for his failures, he believes himself guilty for giving in. He has failed his people plenty of times and he feels ashamed they still have faith in him. He feels ashamed for giving into the pain, and pleasure.

Tolys has a noble mindset and with it brings the sense of duty to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders as if you were a titan like atlas. With that mindset you will inevitably feel guilty when you fail because you are human trying to do the impossible.

Tolys feels things so profoundly and he wishes to numb himself from the pain yet nothing is ever truly enough.

yay!!! love them <3

so in the early fandom days i used to read a lot of lietpol and write a bit of it, this time around i haven't given it much thought but it's such a good ship and deserves more attention imho. i consider them an old married couple much like england and france.

the femdom ship of all time (i don't have a solid gender headcanon for poland but he seems so bigender to me... like my babygirl. or maybe he's non binary or just a flamboyant femboy. anyway.)

you know the 4 pm dick flattening meme? yeah that's them.

they're probably toxic in a way that looks really fun and cute externally. there is no way feliks isn't some flavor of crazy. but its ok he's so quirky about it!!! he likes pretending he's harley quinn or some shit. he's such a messy bitch and never grew out of it. he calls tolys daddy despite keeping the man's balls in a ziplock bag in his knockoff louis vuitton.

as far as tolys he's a very multifacted character but i can't see him as like this badass that he's apparently portrayed as in recent fandom.

he's socially awkward and neurotic and tired of everyone and poland is his biggest migraine but that bussy game is ridiculous and he gets off on being treated poorly. he keeps repeating happy wife happy life like some sort of mantra while completely losing his shit. i don't think he's actually like a pathetic wet noodle i do think he could be kind of a simp but it's inadvertent he's just trying to appease feliks because that satisfied lil smirk and evil gay laugh is what he lives for.

but it's not all that, they do have their sappy romantic moments, are emotionally vulnerable with one another, and have a lot of fun together. i see them playing jokes on each other a lot, watching movies together and snuggling, finding new hobbies that they can do as a couple like cooking or completing 'challenges' like. '30 autumn date ideas' or watching films off a list. and shopping together!!!

i see feliks putting in a lot of effort to cheer tolys up when he's down and if he ever does actually hurt his self esteem he's quick to apologize, reassure him, and make it up to him however he wants. i feel like tolys isn't a super romantic guy in general, at least he has trouble displaying it, but he's always in awe of how he managed to land such a cutie and doesn't let feliks forget that he's appreciated.

nation etiquette on names:

calling another country by their name in your own language: cold as fuck, only acceptable if you’re addressing them indirectly such as during a speech in your own language

calling another country by their name in their language: polite but impersonal, acceptable in business/political settings and with your acquaintances.

however! some nations will break these rules intentionally without much heart behind it; vi calls feliks “lenkija” when he’s chastising him in the same exasperated way your mother calls you by your full name. Al tries desperately to call Hungary by her chosen name or “magyarország” but his mouth won’t make those sounds so he just calls her “Maggie.”

some of the older nations will occasionally slip up and call one another by a past name entirely by accident. the amount of times arthur has called françois “henri” while drunk 💀💀 fran is used to it at this point lol.

Feliks Łukasiewicz: The hidden nonbinary/gender fluid icon

So Poland from Hetalia...is a character...

In all seriousness, Felik’s wasn’t my fav character back when 13 year old me saw them for the first time but I also didn’t hate the guy. They just confused the hell outta me because even with the limited worldly knowledge my preteen brain had, I was trying to understand what part of this character was inherently Polish.

Honestly even adult me is struggling to understand how Felik’s is the personification of Poland. It really feels like Himaruya made a character that just vaguely looks polish and has a polish accent and called it a day. And for a while I thought maybe he wrote Feliks that way because the country he represents is super progressive! Upon farther research…I was very wrong.

Here’s a very quick, simplified list of what you can expect in terms of “rights” for the lgbtq+ in Poland

Gay marriage isn’t legal

Discrimination is legal in some contexts

If you wanna adopt, you can only do so if you’re single(if you’re not hetero, if you are and in a couple, you’ll have less issues)

Conversion therapy is not banned

Military rights are ambiguous at best

Non-binary gender is not recognized(this one might have to do more with the language and their naming system than discrimination….but…)

You actually can legally change your gender and surgery is not required. They only recognize male and female though, nothing else. Getting surgery might require either a crap ton of money and/or going to a different country

…yeah…so Feliks makes even less sense and that’s not even taking into account how religious the country they represent is known to be.

However, upon further research, Poland does have quite the history on LGBT activism so that got me thinking that Feliks is not as superficial as I initially thought.

Firstly, I believe Feliks is gender fluid and demisexual and they’re just so casual about it around people they’ve probably forgotten to come out to some of their friends when they realized their gender orientation. Like I can absolutely see this conversation happening.

Tolys:….Feliks…we need to have a talk…now…

Feliks: yeah? Why? What’s wrong? You look, like, really stressed out.

Tolys: Look…I’ve been able to handle the other baltics, Ivan and Gilbert, sometimes all at the same time…but I’m gonna have an aneurism if you don’t explain to me why you’re dressed up like one of those teenage E-girls Alfred has talked to me about, right now…are you that broke or something???

Feliks:…I haven’t come out of the closet to you have I?

Tolys:….I’ll be back

Tolys would genuinely be more annoyed at Feliks about the decades long lack of context and taking so damn long to remember to come out to him more than anything else tbh xD

Jokes aside, I genuinely think they started realizing his gender identity around the time Hungary was starting to discover herself. Watching her go through her issues probably made them start to question themselves a bit. I can see them being pretty religious before this and having a struck “there are only 2 genders mentality” for a long time but slowly starting to have a shift in ideals as time went on and their knowledge of the world started to grow. They might even have an internal crisis about their religious faith and how they feel but I can see them getting over it quickly since God is weirdly a cannon character in the series and seems very nonchalant. Feliks definitely had a conversation with God about this and straight up be told “do what makes you happy, I’m not gonna punish you for doing what you love.”

Eventually they’d fully discover themselves and just accept who they are because, if nothing else, Feliks is a simple person with simple needs. They just wanna be happy and if putting on a frilly skirt one day and slacks the next makes them happy then by golly they’re gonna do so. Outside their home country.

I don’t think Feliks expresses themselves often, if ever, in they homeland for safety reasons. If they go to Alfred’s place though? They’re going all out and no one can stop them. Periot 💅

That being said…because they’re very outspoken around people they trust…they kinda just…expect their friends and in some situations, complete strangers, to just pick up on their sexuality and gender identity. Feliks just kinda forgets people like Tolys exist. People like him who NEED to be told straight up “hey, this is my situation” because otherwise they’re just never gonna come to any conclusion on their own. Tolys can’t even pick up when someone is trying to tell him a joke, let alone when someone is trying to come out to him, discreetly.

Feliks is a disaster in this regard because of this. Because they’re assuming people picked up on their brand of fruitiness, to them they’ve already come out to people. In reality they haven’t and it takes them a hot minute to realize this because SURELY they would’ve come out to Feliciano by now…right???

Nope. They forgot. Italy didn’t get the news till late 2017, he still won’t let it go btw.

I think he's friends with Finland and Hungary!! He knows them firstly through Estonia, and then got to know Hungary better through Poland. He likes them both well enough, until Estonia gets in an argument with Latvia over something and they're both on Estonia's side even for dumb stuff.

Him and Prussia are brothers. I take no criticism. There's so much drama around this.

Where to start

His earlier childhood was actually very happy; his mom was dedicated to making sure her kids had as 'normal' a childhood as possible.

Sometime during the northern crusades Gilbert Vakaris, went missing and that's when things went down hill. Bc they assumed him dead, and it took his mother three months to accept that. When she did it broke her.

Aestii was the last of the living ancients in Europe. Yet the last 300 years of her life she would have preferred to be dead.

Tolys spent the rest of his teen years/early adulthood taking care of her and Raivis and trying to keep himself from falling apart. It's around this time his trademark anxiety really started to manifest.

(Side note: in my hc Aestii lived till the 15th century, she would die barely a hundred years before the commonwealth)

Tolys went into his marriage with Feliks barely aware of any of his surroundings. He was still dealing with the loss of his mother, and having recently found out his little brother isn't dead! But hates his guts now! That's FUN!!

He thought Feliks was cute, and he loved Kalev more than he realized, but Alfred was his first crush he was aware of 👉👈

50. i think he doesn't like to remember the time leading up to the second and third partitions. unlike other difficult times in his life, he wasn't able to do anything about what was happening to him. he just had to watch as russians gained more and more control in his government until it was forced to dissolve, and i think that would've been harder on a restless person like feliks, because it's not something he could (try to) solve with a revolution. he pretty much spaced out through that entire time period

The same couldn’t be said about the Lithuanian though. He kept on shifting to another side and mumbling words of protest in his sleep. Another nightmare. Tolys was on the floor, unable to get up, as he barely had any strength. And above him, stood a well known person, who was the least he would be happy to see ever again. A small "No" escaped the Lithuanian’s mouth, as tears dropped down his eyes. "Tolys… Tolys, wake up!" a voice called. The man jolted awake, to see his boyfriend looking at him with worry. "Alfred? What happened?" he asked. "You were talking in your sleep. It looked like you had a really awful nightmare. Also…you’re crying?" escaped Alfred’s mouth. As those words were spoken, Tolys realized that his cheeks were wet and that something indeed was coming out of his eyes. He touched his right cheek, and felt the tears falling down. "Do you want me to bring you something, like tea to calm you down a little?" asked Alfred. "Sure" said Tolys giving his lover a small smile. The American quietly got out of the room to the kitchen and made some tea. Unfortunately, he was heard by Alice:"Alfred? What are you doing in the kitchen at this hour?" "Oh, well… I’m making tea for Tolys. He had a nightmare and I’m helping him with calming down." he answered. "Oh, understandable. He's very lucky to have you." she answered. "You’re fluttering me, dudette. Anyway, where’s Feliks?" he asked. "Oh, he’s asleep. From the both of us, he’s definitely the one who has strong sleep. Sometimes it can be really hard to wake him up." answered the Polish woman. "I can only imagine." Alfred chuckled softly. After the small conversation, Alice went back to sleep and Alfred returned to his and Tolys’s shared room. He handed him the tea, and the Lithuanian start it drinking. After he finished, he seemed a bit more calm. "Feeling better?" asked the American. "Yeah" escaped Tolys’s mouth. "How about your state? Feeling a bit better?" he asked. "No. Not really. But is better than before. Also I’m slowly but surely regaining my strengths. So is good." answered Tolys as he looked at his boyfriend. But then he looked away, as a sadden look appeared on his face. "Tolys?" Alfred called his name, as he knew that something was wrong. The Lithuanian didn’t look up. "Alright, there is clearly something you’re not telling me. What’s wrong?" he asked. "Is just…" started Tolys. "I thought about what Gilbert said." he continued. Then he put his hands on his head:"And now, your life is at risk because of me. Maybe he was right after all. Maybe I truly am like one of those ugly and heartless monsters." Then he closed his eyes and started crying. A moment later he felt Alfred hugging him:"That’s not true." He looked at his boyfriend again. "To me it doesn’t matter if you’re a human or a werewolf. I still love you and accept you for who you are. And you know that. You shouldn’t listen to what Gilbert says, since we know is bullshit. And I think you’re beautiful just the way you are. Never forget about that." said Alfred with small blushes on his face. Now Tolys started blushing as well. He decided to tell Alfred about the nightmare he had and he comforted him:"Don’t you ever dare to think about yourself as of a burden. Alright, honey? You’re not a burden to me, or any of our friends, my dear." Tolys nod. After the conversation and lots of comforting, they went to sleep.

The next day, after dinner Tolys and Alfred spent some time alone in their shared room. The American gave his boyfriend a back massage, to help him relax and make him feel more at ease. "Ah… Now that feels nice." said the Lithuanian. "Who would have thought that I’m good at massaging as well" the American slightly chuckled. "Maybe you should think about becoming a masseur in the future perhaps? Although, I’m not gonna lie. I would be a bit jealous of those hands touching someone else instead of me." said Tolys in a flirty way. "Oh you dumbass" escaped Alfred’s mouth. "Well, I’m not the only dumbass in here" giggled the Lithuanian. "Oh shut it" answered the American starting to tickle his lover. "Ah… ha ha! Stop! Please stop! Is too much for me to handle! Ha ha!" escaped the brunette’s mouth, as he was barely able to catch his breath and couldn’t stop laughing. "Would you look at that. Who would’ve thought that werewolves could be this ticklish?" asked the blond as he finally stopped. They looked at each other in silence for a moment. "Have I already told you that you have a really adorable laugh?" asked Alfred. Tolys blushed:"Y-yes… many times actually…" "Cause is true. Your laugh is really lovely. All of you is amazing in general." said the American. Then both of them leaned toward each other and kissed on the lips. After they pulled away, they heard someone knocking at their door. "Come in" said Tolys. Then Feliks and Alice along with Matthew, Francis and Arthur came in the room. "Hey, Tolys how are you doing?" asked the French. "We heard about everything. We’re really sorry for what you had to go through." said the British. "Oh, I’m doing much better than before. Thanks for asking." answered the Lithuanian. "We’re really sorry that we didn’t came for visits earlier. All three of us had so much going on, and we were really shocked about the news. Not on a bad way of course… ummm…" said Matthew. Tolys smiled:"Is alright. Really. I don’t blame you for the reactions. I just wish you learnt this truth in another way, without someone spilling the secret for me." "True. What that Conard Gilbert did to you, was terrible." said Francis. "Anyway, there’s something we need to tell you." said Arthur. "Alright. We’re all ears." answered Alfred. "So… you see… I’m not exactly a simple human as well. I’m actually a sorcerer, but me and Francis were hiding this from you cause we didn’t know how you would react to this news. And true, maybe is not the same thing as being a werewolf, but it still counts as something unnatural." explained the British. "So it means the Unnatural Beasts Hunters hunts for sorcerers as well?" asked Feliks. "It looks like it. Apparently, those idiots even sees a human that can do magic as a dangerous beast." answered the French. "Oh that really sucks" said Alice. After the whole confession, everyone started chatting about how glad they were to learn about the two of their friends secrets. Also Tolys, now knowing that Arthur has a similar situation as well, he felt like he wasn’t alone in this anymore. Sure, he knew there were more of people like him in this world. But having a friend who shares a similar experience, felt much more relieving to him.

At evening, the guests went home and Feliks and Alice decided to go to sleep earlier, while Tolys and Alfred were still up. At the beginning they were having a pillow fight quietly, since they didn’t want to wake up their friends. And it all ended it up with them, laying together on the bed looking in the each other’s eyes, without saying a single word. "What a day, huh?" said Tolys after a moment. "What do you mean?" asked Alfred. "Well, I’ve never thought that another of our friends would turn out to be not a simple human as well. I mean true, Arthur might not be a creature like a vampire or any other kind of monsters. But it feels amazing to be friends with someone who shares a similar experience and pretty much knows what it feels like to… you know." explained the Lithuanian. "Yes, I know honey." answered the American. A sad look appeared on the werewolf’s face. "Wow, what is that look all about? Are you thinking about Gilbert again?"asked Alfred. "No, is just… I’m worried what is gonna be next after I get better. Will I have to start to live in the hiding? Will I be able to live a normal life after all? There’s just… so many questions and not so many answers to them. And the society… Oh God, would it be possible to convince the people about not all of the other creatures being harmful? What if…" Tolys start it rumbling, when suddenly he got cut off by Alfred who got on top of him, pining his hands above him and kissed him passionately on the lips. The Lithuanian returned the kiss as well. It was a pretty long kiss. After they pulled away from each other, Alfred let go of his boyfriend’s hands:"I’m sorry if this was a bit unexpected, but you start it to overthink too much, making yourself feel more stressed and I just had to do something. I just didn’t know how…" Tolys giggled:"Don’t apologize, love. To be honest, I’ve liked it. I was pretty surprised at the beginning and didn’t expect you would do that, but I enjoyed every second of it. With you, I always feel safe and loved." Alfred smiled and they shared another kiss. After all of that, they went to sleep. Tolys had that dream again, where he was tied up in more ropes and could barely move. Only this time it was clear that the figure standing above him was Gilbert. He tried to transform again, but in vain. The Lithuanian closed his eyes as the German was getting closer to him, until he heard some voices calling for him. He opened his eyes and instead of Gilbert, there were his friends and his boyfriend in front of him. They all came up and helped him with getting out of the ropes. Once he was free, they all shared a hug together.
