How do you rank the prosecutors on order of homophobia
forgot about this in my drafts for literally months oops. Anyway. Finished now!!!!
So I made this post a while ago that has some of the prosecutors and antagonists, but if you want a ranking of EVERY prosecutor (not including DGS bc i haven't finished yet) huzzah!!
Simon Blackquill: Not actually homophobic but he gets points docked for siccing Taka (known homophobe) at Klavier (known bisexual) for stealing his pretzels from the office pantry that one time. 3/10
Blaise Debeste: I think he's gay but he made me look at that ugly ass beard for far too long and I consider that disrespectful. out of principle? 8/10
Sebastian Debeste: Just look at him. 0/10
Miles Edgeworth: Bratworth was simultaneously gay, homophobic, and a misogynist, and eventually develops into a man who is only like 1.5 of those things. he's getting better. 5/10
Byrne Faraday: I don't really think he cares much about gay people he's busy being a single father and stealing shit. For the apathy? 2/10
Klavier Gavin: He's extremely gay and does a lot of work for the gay community but making Ema Skye deal with him is explicitly lesbophobic so 4/10
Godot: He has a lovely wife but whatever he was doing with Ron DeLite was probably not osha-compliant. I don't know what that means for his sexuality or stance on gay people and neither does he. ?/10
Ga'ran: I think she has a lot of other problems she should deal with first but considered she's bigoted to defense attorneys I don't think her being homophobic would be that out of pocket. Not sure I want to find out. 7/10
Neil Marshall: Have you ever been a gay bar? This guy would do NUMBERS. Also, real cowboys support gay rights. 0/10
Gaspen Payne: Being homophobic is actually why he got fired by the prosecutor's office and Winston is really fucking embarrassed about it. 10/10
Winston Payne: You'd think he'd be homophobic but you can't work for the Japanifornia Prosecutor's Office and hate gay people or you would actually go insane. He's like that one suburban guy who uses terms from the 60s but has the spirit. However, his ally lapel pin is really ugly so 3/10
Jaques Portman: He was calling Edgeworth slurs even before realizing he was gay. 9/10
Lana Skye: Dated Mia in college but refused to explain that to Ema because she has a lot of internalized homophobia and other weird issues of self. Repressed yuri personified. 1/10
Nahyuta Sahdmadhi: He supports gay people but gets all his talking points from the internet so even though he's supportive he's also incredibly fucking annoying about it and no one wants to invite him to brunch because of it. Stop using twitter for fact-checking you jackass. 2/10
Franziska Von Karma: Despite the fact that her lesbianism is so strong it borders on misandry, I think she has a lot of internalized homophobia so she spends the first 25 years of her life being a judgmental little shit. She'll get better dw about it. I believe she can bring that number down with time. 6/10
Manfred Von Karma: I think when he finds out Edgeworth is gay he starts going to gay bars and picking up dudes just to show Edgeworth he has way more rizz than him. Considering how people in my notes have told me on numerous occasions how much they want him carnally, I think he could actually pull it off. In that respect I think he's done a lot for the gay community. It ends up cancelling out somewhat because I think he'd be kind of an ass about it. 4/10

hihihihihihiiiiiiiii i was wondering if u had any advice for people trying to get into thejapanese side of fandom. im so monolingual its making me embarassed. also are there any terms/slang tobe aware of. i saw CP/R and started panicking LOL
KJFNJREHGRJ that's understandable. The term CP means something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT in JP fandom I assure you. Here are some slang tips!
CP: this stands for "coupling" and is the Japanese equiv to the word "slash" or "ship". For example, I will use uhh apollo/klavier from ace attorney as an example. You might see something like "CP オドキョ" (CP Odokyo - "klapollo" in Japanese. Apollo = odoroki, Klavier = kyouya). So if you see CP in a Japanese fandom context don't panic lol, culture shock whiplash
w: you may see multiple "w" like wwww or wwwwwww etc. This is the quiv to "lol" in Japanese with more "w" meaning something is funnier. The etymology behind this is it is short for the word 笑う(warau) which means to laugh. You may also see 草 (kusa) however, which by any standard definition is just the word for grass. However, thru a long game of word evolution, people started pointing out that when you type a lot of "w" it kind of looks like blades of grass! (wwwwww) so therefore the word for grass itself became slang to mean "lol".
88: like "w" you may see many 8's in a row like 888888 or 88888888 etc. This is supposed to mean "applause" or imitate a clapping sound, and is used to show you are applauding something. Usually used at the end of videos to signify a "this was awesome!" or "great art piece!" sort of thing. Etymology comes from the fact 8 in japanese is pronounced "hachi". So two 8s in a line would be pronounced "hachi hachi". This is very close to the onomatopoeic sound for clapping, which is "pachi pachi". Thus, 88(etc) = clapping.
いいね (ii ne): Including this just cuz you'll see it a LOT on Japanese content sharing sites. It is simply the equivalent to "like" as in a like button. So on Nico video for example (nico video is a Japanese video platform, sort of like Youtube), their like button is an いいね button. The phrase basically translates to "this is good!"
R-15: This isn't used AS MUCH nowadays from what I've seen, but it is still worth a mention. Sometimes content may be marked "R-15", which is basically synonymous with "R-18" (18 or older). I'm not too sure why the age discrepancy exists to be honest, and like I said this seems to be a much older thing as nowadays every adult-content piece of Japanese media I see is marked R-18 and not R-15, but just keep it in mind whenever you see R-15 that you should actually treat it like an R-18 warning.
グロ(guro)/ゲロ(gero): slang terms for specific types of content. I think it's important to recognize them either in case you want to look for this specific content or you want to look out for it and don't accidentally click on any page with it. "Guro" refers to gore content (or general disturbing/body horror stuff), 80% of the time drawn/animated gore, but it has been used to refer to real life gore content (snuff imagery, real or fake). "Gero" refers to content centered on vomit/vomiting (again, uuuusually drawn but this more so than guro i have seen refer to the real thing, be careful googling if that sort of thing makes u squeamish). These two tags are specifically used to tag content that these concepts (guro for gore, gero for vomit) are the main focus, and so typically are usually (not always, but a lot of the time) fetish tags. It is also important to note "guro" is a shortened word for "grotesque" so in the context outside of Japanese fandom works, the word can take on a less fetishy meaning of just something being "gross" or "scary" (again usually in reference to disturbing imagery).
エッチ(ecchi)/エロ(ero): Okay, some stuff related to R-18 content, cuz again, I think it's important to know for if you want to seek it out or if you want to be on the look out and stay away. Ecchi you may have heard before. If I'm not mistaken, here in the west, we use it to mean "softcore porn" or "sexually provocative material that isn't full-on sex." Like, you know, actin sexy but not showing nips or dick or whatever. But in Japanese it's a bit different. Ecchi, as used as a tag on artwork and such, just straight up refers to porn. Real or drawn, but obvs in fandom it's gonna be drawn. The word itself can be a "cutesy" word for sexy or refer to somebody who is lewd. You've heard of hentai of course, right? Well, in Japanese, this specific kind of hentai is spelled ヘンタイ or sometimes HENTAI. It is based off the word with the same pronunciation, 変態, which means "pervert" or "abnormal". Hentai, unlike ecchi, refers to strictly fictional porn of anime characters, sometimes people cosplaying as anime characters, but it's usually just drawn/animated even outside of a fandom context. There is very little distinction between hentai and ecchi when it comes to drawings specifically, as far as I can tell. I guess the big differences it that "hentai" is definitely the more popular term, and so is going to be used by west and east fandom equally, while "ecchi" is used mostly only in the east fandom. "Hentai" may also have "weirder" porn based on the fact "hentai" as a word can be "abnormal", but that's mostly me basing it off the word itself and I could be totally wrong. Altho the actual wiki page for hentai in Japanese uses a picture of lolicon so maybe I'm right lol. エロ(ero)/エロい(eroi) is short for "erotic" and is used kind of in the same way that we use the word "sexy", like "this is sexy" or "that's hot as fuck", with hot/sexy being replaced with "ero(i)" in Japanese sentences. Sometimes in slang it is spelled as "eloi" since r's and l's are interchangeable in Japanese.
On that note, other terms: ショタ(コン) (shota(con)) and ロリ(コン) (loli(con)) refer to sexual depictions of fictional underage characters ("loli" being female and "shota" being male). エロゲー (eroge) (sometimes just エロゲ) is short for "ero game" which is what it sounds like, basically a porn game. アダルトゲーム(adaruto gemu) is much of the same, it means "adult game". And ギャルゲー (gyaru ge) means "girl game/gal game", which is NOT "game meant for girls" but instead "game with sexy women".
Ok moving out of the Sex Zone
手描き(te kaki): This one is very important if you wanna find animations by people. The word itself means "hand-drawn", but the best way to describe what it means in terms of how it is used is...well, tbh, the best synonym I can think of is "animation meme". In the west, I'm sure you've seen, we have things called "animation memes" which are sort of animation trends multiple people do. It's kiiiiind of like that. Most "te kaki" are re-animating a popular trend (so just like an animation meme) or are re-animates of specific scenes or, much more popularly, music videos that were already animated in the first place (think music videos by Pinnochio-P or Nanawoakari) except the character is traced over and replaced with an OC or some anime guy. It can also refer to completely original animation that isn't based off a preexisting animation. Sometimes you may see 手書きトレス (te kaki toresu) which means "hand-drawn trace" which refers to specifically the second definition I listed, where the character in an animated music video is traced over with a new one. You may see also 手書きMAD (more on that later...) or 手書き and then the series name they're animating. For example, Danganronpa is ダンガンロンパ. So an animated Danganronpa video would be 手書きダンガンロンパ.
MAD: hooo boy. Ok. I am obsessed with MADs, specifically Death Note ones. A "MAD" is purely a spin or remix of an existing work, usually musical in nature. When you look up MADs it will usually be anime clips, or general other video clips, edited to a song. Think like a YouTube Poop Music Video (YTPMV). Look up "ronald mcdonald insanity" on Youtube. This is basically every westerner's first exposure to MADs. Unlike YTPMVs though, MADs can sometimes have other elements that are not purely musical, and that serve to tell a story/joke. Furthermore, while most MADs are humorous in intention, some aren't. And while 90% of MADs are musical-based, some of them are just shitposts. You may see the term 音 MAD be used (oto MAD), which means basically the same thing, except 音 means "sound", so you'll up that 90% to 100% and get only music-based MADs. Some MAD communities have their own name, and that is something you need to find out yourself. For example, I know the Death Note MAD community calls their MAD videos "bakayaroid" (バカヤロイド) which is a play on the word "vocaloid" and one of Light's most meme'd lines where he yells "bakayarou!!" (which means "you idiot!" or "you bastard!")
歌ってみた(uttemita): idk if this counts as fandom but it's handy to know. In Japan, covers of songs are not called "covers". They are titled with 歌ってみた, which translates as "I tried to sing [song name]". So if you wanna find covers of a Japanese song you like, pop in the title and copy paste 歌ってみた after it.
In terms of shipping...
Unlike in the west where we don't really differentiate top/bottom dynamics, this is actually pretty important when it comes to tagging ships. Although, I am starting to see less of it. Regardless, it is handy to know. For example, Danganronpa's komahina (komaeda x hinata) would be 狛日 (koma hina). This, however, implies Komaeda is the dominant one in the relationship. If you wanted to find content where Hinata is the dominant one, you'd have to search 日狛 (hina koma). Again, I think it depends what fandom you're in for how important this distinction in. for example, I find it is very prominent in the danganronpa fandom, but not so much in Ace Attorney.
A footnote: Japanese humor and expression is vastly different from ours. This may seem obvious but I need to reiterate it because people sometimes say things they don't know are usually interpreted badly to Japanese artists. For example, acting "rabid" in somebody's replies, jokingly being mean, jokingly making threats, and stuff WE are used to as obvious jokes (stuff like "i think you should explode maybe" or "THIS IS MAKING ME INSANE") CAN EASILY BE SEEN AS HATE COMMENTS. Please please please if you want to compliment a Japanese artist, just say it like you mean it, like "this art is so good i love it!" or "this art was so emotional it made me cry, this is great!". Obviously not every JP artist is the same so some may know you're joking and some may be aware of western hyperbolic speech culture...or whatever you wanna call it. But the point is, I would err on the side of caution and just express you feelings genuinely and honestly.
Also, regardless of your stance on if xyz drawing is "morally good" (aka incest art lolisho art) and regardless of proship/anti stuff, just Don't bring it up with Japanese artists. The terms "proship" and "antiship" mean absolutely nothing over there. The terms "pedophilic art/problematic art/illegal ships" means nothing over there. I have personally seen Japanese artists get harassed off platforms because they had no clue what proship/antiship meant and refused to engage with our bullshit shipping politics culture. You will likely just get blocked, or called an アメリカンお気持ちヤクザ (america okimochi yakuza), which means "American feelings yakuza". The definition of which is a person, typically an American (altho any kind of westerner) who weaponizes their feelings of dislike to attack others in a brutally yakuza-ish fashion. Which sums up my feelings on shipping discourse in general honestly. Don't be that dickhead foreigner forcing Japanese artists to answer to western politics. If somebody's art makes you upset/uncomfortable, block and move on.
I THINK THOSE ARE ALL THE BIG ONES....if you need more help just let me know!
EDIT: FORGOT TO ADD....another important word/term is "mob" モブ and no this does not refer to the little dude from mob psycho (usually). you may see detail-less gray characters with the word モブ on their face or such like. This basically means "NPC" or "stranger", and is just used as a placeholder for a civilian, otherwise unnamed person/people.

I'm rereading Exorcism (now that its finished! yahoo) and I love Kitty Poes sm shes such an interesting characterrr would you wanna tell me about your process for developing her? ig I couldve DMed you but I myself love a chance to rant publicly so here you go lmao. I am unfortunately only on chapter 14 (though I got further than that last time) so if you wanna be spoilery just give me a warning and I'll read it later >:3c
kitty my best friend kitty
i think i can go over this without any spoilers past chapter 14! you have already seen her big arc and i am sooo happy people liked her <333
so! i've never mentioned this to anyone before, but kitty is a bit of a riff off of one of my oldest OCs. when i was about 18, i was big into katekyo hitman reborn, mostly because i was even bigger into organized crime as a general topic. catalena foggia was the youngest of four, and after a rival family took out her parents and all three of her older brothers (you know, the sort of backstory you give people as a teenager) she very grimly stepped up to the throne.
now whenever i need a female character with a "hello, i Run This Place" air about her, my mind goes to catalena, who of course was called cat by all her friends.
and i knew that i wanted a character like that as klavier's manager. generally, whenever i get to make OCs for my aa fics, i try to make most of them women if they aren't already implied to be men by canon like the rest of the gavinners, since aa refuses to have adult female characters that don't die. the gavinners started out as a bunch of teenage guys, the music industry is tough as nails, LA is horrible..... nobody but cat could've done it, man.
the whole dutch connection sort of happened on the fly. i knew i didn't want to call her catalena foggia, even if nobody but, like, the two irl friends i still have who knew me at 18 lol, knew of that oc. it was still important to me to differentiate, because this wasn't cat, this was a new oc who was very similar to and inspired by her. i remembered that kitty is a valid first name, so i went for that, because i like to think i'm funny. :^)
once you reach the end of exorcism, you'll find a little gdoc with bonus content i left in the end notes there, which among other things contains explanations for all the pun names i've used in the fic. including kitty's, but i'll reiterate here: the reason i stuck with a cat theme was that klavier gavin, in my mind, is absolutely a golden retriever, so i wanted to give him a manager/babysitter who is a cat. a big cat. kitty is short in stature, but i mention her lion's mane of hair often enough in the text, so, u know.
that's also part of what i wanted her to be. yeah, she had to be tough simply for the industry and for the fact that she was managing teenagers for a while, but i also knew that i wanted to give klavier friends, and people in his life who really care about him, and will stick with him through all this. kitty is lawfully loyal: if she doesn't agree with something, she has no trouble walking out, but once she actually takes to someone like she took to klavier, she will be fiercely protective. i never mentioned her age, but i imagined her in exorcism to be somewhere in her mid to late 40s. she's seasoned, she's experienced, she's capable - she's what klavier deserves!!! that's what i wanted. kristoph and daryan are so painfully incompetent, when it comes down to it. klavier needs people in his life who know what they're doing.
so, i wanted a big little lion lady for my dog boy. i sort of just clicked through my various dictionaries for a while looking up different cat terms in different languages to see if any of them sounded enough like a last name, and that's how i landed on poes. only after that did i decide to make the dutch conundrum A Thing.
thank you for asking about her <33333 enjoy the rest of the fic, feel free to keep me posted about ur reading experience too :3c

Hey want some random AA hcs?
They’re romantic/sexual orientation and gender flavored
*Dumps these at your feet*
Also if I don’t include anyone specific I didn’t forget them I just don’t have one for that specific character yet
-Phoenix is Bi. He is the Bisexual king of this universe and everyone will know it-(I mean it’s a really popular hc anyways) Phoenix is also a trans man
-Edgeworth is DemiAroAce and ✨Gay✨ (Basically Edgeworth is like “I don’t need bitches.” *sees someone he’s grown rather close to as a partner or friend And they’re a man* “…On second thought-“) Edgeworth is also a trans man, it actually started when he was a child like he didn’t know yet he just liked suits and when he was old enough to understand he was like “…yeah I was an egg.”
-Franziska is also gay, but in the girl way
-Mia is Bi, and she’s a trans queen cause I said so
-Godot/Diego is genderfluid and pan, he also uses all the pronouns and is on the hunt for more. N o t e v e n y o u r n e o s a r e s a f e
-Von Karma is secretly Bi with a stronger guy attraction, but he pretends he’s not by hating on romance, no it’s not in a homophobic way but in a “NO ROMANCE FOR ANYONE ITS A WASTE OF TIME-“ way, and he can’t deal with a crush to save his life-
-Lang is Omni, and also a trans man, and if anyone complains about him wearing his shirt like that, or if he takes it off and someone complains, he’ll respond with the “hey I paid a lot of money to be shirtless/wear my shirt like this” joke, although I can also see his top surgery scars blending in well with his other scars cause he does have a crap ton (in my hcs anyways)
-Apollo: Gay Trans king. That’s it everyone go home.
-Klavier is Bi, he didn’t discover it until Apollo came along though, basically he was going around like “okay men are cute too I’ll admit not just the girls, but I’m still straight!” Than he actually fell in love with one he finally realized “…fuck I’m not straight am I” He is also trans, but is he a trans man or a trans woman, the answer is neither it’s a secret third option (Nonbinary and uses All pronouns)
-Kristoph is AroAce, I feel like this one’s kinda a hot take but, yeah to me he’s completely aromatic and asexual, no “Demi” about (insert the “Ace” attorney jokes let’s go let’s go)
it he’s not like completely completely against trying ether one but overall he’s like “Nope not interested keep your love story bullshit away from me.” Mixed with “I don’t need bitches. They disappoint me, *disco pose*” But yet he’s not aware he’s Aroace, he just thinks it’s normal, (in my AA swap au he realizes and embraces it a bit though)
as for gender, is he cis? is he trans? Nobody knows (secretly a trans man pretending to be a cis man, only Klavier knows this)
-Blackquill is unknown, by anyone, not even him himself, he’s definitely not straight though. Actually if he tells you he’s straight he says it like a joke and/or is trying not to laugh when doing so, also trans. You’ll never know in what way though
Taka however is the bird version of the homophobic dog
-Larry is straight and cis, which is canon anyways, I may ship some gay ships with him (like with lang-) but I overall see him as straight like in canon, Plus its fucking hilarious to picture him as the only straight and cis man in all of Japanifornia/hj
Edit: There’s one for Bobby now
-Bobby is transmasc, he gives me the vibes, Transbright real. (Also if all the detectives (+Lang cause he also technically is) met I feel like he and Lang would both get along and be very supportive of each other, like:
Bobby: Great news! I finally got my top surgery! It went great!
Lang: That’s amazing! Great for you! My bottom surgery is next week.
Bobby: That’s great! Best of luck! I can’t believe we’re both detectives and trans men!
Ema in the background: I’m a communist (no not really I just wanted to complete the joke)
)
Fulbright also gives me gay vibes

feeling annoyed by fandom again so i just want to think about the agony of narcissistic abuse in AA4 and how all the fathers/older figures (yes including nick) ultimately show negative behaviors that have harmed the younger person they have cared for or mentored lol. i think i remember someone getting really mad about me mentioning covert incest in the context of AA4, but Boy what the fuck is the point of media if you don't talk about what's difficult in life, if you don't find vectors to seriously discuss complex relationships between adults and children, fathers and daughters (nick and trucy).
When I say 'covert incest', I don't mean hidden incest in the literal term, but rather emotional incest. Emotional incest is a really meaningful term, even if people despise having to look at the word incest, because the issue of emotional abuse wherein parents overly depend on their own children is not something many people are able to broadly conceptualize! It isn't something that is usually done in a malicious way, either -- many parents who do that are frequently themselves struggling with trauma, lack of direction, insecurities, and other struggles. However, the issue therein is they depend on a child for support rather than an adult of their own age or social position. This often coincides with a condition that we do call Parentification -- something I think is more well-known as a term, as it is when a child is forced to grow up too quickly as extreme responsibilities beyond their years are placed upon them.
I realize it may seen strange or extreme for me to discuss this in the context of such a silly series as Ace Attorney, but it is an issue that frequently appears in the game. Mia is left to be a parent figure to Maya before leaving to become an attorney, leaving Maya primarily in the care of their aunt who loathes them both. Maya ends up being a major caretaker of Pearl, despite herself still being a teenager, after Morgan is imprisoned. Maya ends up managing many office affairs on behalf of Nick because while he is an adult with a law degree, he simply accepts her help and aid rather than actually engaging with her as the child she is (something he will frequently do through the series). Kristoph appears to have somewhat of a parental relationship with Klavier (though I recognize this is up for debate and open to interpretation), actively gaslighting and undermining him in a court of law as well as using Klavier's teenage desire to feel equal to his older brother for his own benefit years prior.
I could very likely go on in this matter, but I do think that these issues are most encapsulated by Nick and Trucy. You could also engage with this at the level of Drew and Vera, Lamiroir and Machi, Klav and Kristoph (as previously noted), and Zak and Trucy.
However, while all of those are relevant, Drew wants to protect his daughter despite his failures in depending on her, even if it means the two of them completely shutting themselves off from the world. While Lamiroir is travelling with a 14 year old that she is utilizing as her primary music partner before essentially ending her parental relationship after Machi is imprisoned. Zak does still act as a father to Trucy in the midst of being actively blackmailed by Magnifi -- while it is unreasonable that Trucy has to perform as an eight year old, she is also the granddaughter of Magnifi and (from Magnifi's perspective) the one left to inherit the Gramarye name. Zak's situation has a deeply complicated nature because Magnifi is playing a part in Trucy being a performer -- this is one of the reasons why I don't read Zak's influence as 'parentification' in the same way, even though I do think he and Magnifi did ultimately groom Trucy to be too accepting of this role from a young age.
That brings me to Nick. I do believe it is easy to play off many of the lines that come up. Trucy "takes charge" of the situation, saying that she can take care of Nick even if he doesn't have a job anymore. She's already done shows and is prepared. However, we already know from the future that Nick did take her up on this. She calls herself his 'sugar daddy'. Again, this can be taken as a joke. But Trucy does regular shows at the Wonder Bar advertising her 'Magic Panties', which comes up frequently as something that makes Apollo actively uncomfortable. It is, of course, another 'joke', but the fact that the game does lean so much into Apollo being uncomfortable about Trucy's 'panties' frankly speaks to me as Shu Takumi failing to recognize the discomforting implications of his supposed gag.
Especially when you do have to find an adult woman's actual underwear.
I'm sure people would call me insane for this, but Trucy's Magic Panties show reads to me as a light form of sex work. That's how her show is "sold" and "advertised". The funny joke is that it isn't at all what people would expect -- the funny joke is that people expect it to be the underwear of a 15 year old girl that they are willingly coming to see. "It's a joke", someone would gladly tell me, "Don't read into it so much." And yet this is the kind of thing that matters to me. The implications of this matter and the fact that Apollo is the one sane person in the room who says, "What the hell, don't talk about this, she's a kid" stick in my brain and vibrate with such aggressive intensity that I do feel insane. It feels like horror. It feels like tragedy.
There are so many lines that come up about Trucy and Nick's relationship which border this sense of Nick's unhealthy dependency on her.
Apollo: So you're his, er... you're Phoenix Wright's daughter? Trucy: That's right! After Daddy quit law seven years ago... ...I promised I would keep him fed! So I'm kind of his sugar daddy! Get it? Apollo: No. Trucy: I'm in charge of this whole office, too. Pretty amazing for a young lass of fifteen, wouldn't you agree!?
This early exchange from 4-2 immediately presents Nick and Trucy's relationship as one that centers Trucy's caretaking for her father and the office. It is a talent agency where she is the only one good at her "actual talent" (though she is careful not to mention her father's Poker job), it is an agency where she is meeting new people by herself, it is an agency where a 15 year old girl is managing the office at 9:00 AM rather than being at school. "Well, that doesn't matter, because Takumi didn't intend for it to be like that." What is the point of engaging with a piece of media if we cannot consider the serious implications of that which an author (especially one as misogynistic as Takumi) failed to consider?
Apollo: Mr. Wright's bed... It's really messy. Trucy: Look how messy this is! You're just hopeless without me, aren't you, Daddy? Apollo: (Yikes! She's attempting to clean up! Look out!) Phoenix: Ah ha ha. You got me. What can I say? I was raised in a barn. Try not to let word get out, Apollo. If you don't mind.
There are several bits at the hospital that broadly feel improper for a child and a parent -- again, I know someone could say to me, "This is part of the act that Trucy and Nick are putting together to hook Apollo into working for them." The problem is, these things are already rooted in the very moment that Nick took in Trucy. "You're just hopeless without me" alongside 8 year old Trucy saying, "I'll take care of you" speaks to that exact idea of emotional incest of which their interactions remind me.
Phoenix: Yeah... That's the problem with such a tight operation. It's a symbiotic relationship. When one of us falls, the other, too, must fall... Apollo: Hey! This isn't exactly a suitable conversation to be having with a 15 year old kid!
"It's a symbiotic relationship." This is one of the lines I always come back to when thinking about the issue of emotional incest. There's one aspect here wherein Trucy has taken on a maternal role for Nick. However, there's another aspect in the inappropriate way that Nick refers to their relationship. There is no such thing as a 'symbiotic' relationship to this context -- he's talking about dependency. At this point in time, Nick is aware that Apollo is Trucy's brother. Due to that, he would also know that Apollo grew up as an orphan. When Apollo pushes back, it feels like Nick wants to play into that potential for insecurity. There's a double-pronged horror to me within this, using the potential well-being of an adopted teenager against a young adult man who himself was never adopted.
Phoenix: Sometimes when magicians vanish, they leave something behind... That's how Trucy became Trucy Wright... my daughter. To be honest, I was pretty lost those first few days. Thinking back on it, it was a pretty dark time in my life. But Trucy... happy, smiling Trucy... she was my light.
"She was my light."
There's a way within emotional incest that a parent or adult figure will frame their child in the lens of a relationship inappropriate for their status. Oftentimes, this is akin to a 'romantic' projection, but it can have similar ranges within the idea of placing a child upon a pedestal as a savior. I recognize that a parent could say this without meaning for it to be an unhealthy projection, but this is inherently dehumanizing. I find it further frustrating because Nick also frames himself as the "one person who understands how she really feels". He knows that she's forcing a smile and hiding her true feelings, but he still engages with her ability to hide her own heart as a thread to hang on. Is that love? Yes, of a sort.
But Nick's love is self-serving. It is one that expresses need rather than external concern. His own feelings and goals come before her safety and well-being. He leaves Trucy on her own, he knows the very core of her magic panties act, he actively allows her to manage the agency, he assigns a greater responsibility than anyone should to a 15 year old, and effectively replaces her with Athena once the option arrives. Nick wanted to "restore" his reputation -- at least, that is one of the major assumptions made by fandom -- and so he did. He no longer needs her in the same way because it can now be a law agency again, he has the respect he wanted, and ultimately her "reward" is being relegated to the side. The people he wanted to have back in his life have returned. That isolation he once felt that led to his complete dependence on her has disappeared, but that means she no longer has the same use she once had. Enmeshment, emotional manipulation, the covert nature of it all -- it is a tragedy and it is one I find compelling as she jumps into the deep-end as she tries to take on the Gramarye name once again. As her father goes his own way and the Wright Anything Agency is subsumed by him.

You said Sick Days was your favorite of your fics right now so could you do idk... If I just list some numbers you can pick which ones you want to answer, right? 3-6, 8-12 any of those. Thank you!
I love this fic so much I will do all of them ily for this.
3: What’s your favorite line of narration?
Is it cheating if I don't choose only one? I'm not choosing only one, this blog is my domain and I will do what I want forever.
I really want to include the section where Apollo says 'eugh' but it might rightfully gross people out.
'No time for that, Justice! Your sopping wet boyfriend needs a towel and at least eight hours of sleep, stat.' -Apollo desperately trying to avoid psycho-analyzing his boyfriend
'Apollo was a vision standing in the doorway with a tray of breakfast and Klavier thought he might die.' -Klav just really wanting his eggs
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
Also not choosing only one.
“You’re thinking too hard. Feed me my ice cream.” -Klav being a brat (well deserved)
“Ja. I can do anything if I put my mind to it, Herr Forehead, so jot that down.” -Klav being sassy yet entirely too genuine
“It appears he has no court appearances, so please tell Prosecutor Gavin he has the rest of the week off and that if he shows up despite this I will suspend him.” -Edgeworth being the best boss ever and caring for his subordinates
There were also some exchanges but I'm sticking to single liners as prompted, I do follow some rules.
5: What part was hardest to write?
I had to rework the part where he went to get the medicine and ice cream a couple times, but mostly this fic just flowed out of me.
6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?
So I started writing it while sick and I just wanted to be taken care of so I thought 'What are things I would want someone to do for me?' which made this fic really more about their relationship and how they support each other than some greater narrative. Usually I am struck by a funny concept and then work around it, but this one was genuinely about the kind of love that comes with a healthy extended partnership.
8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?
Answered this above, I was sick. I was sooooo sick. Next time I get sick we're doing the same but in reverse and Apollo is going to be so grumpy, representing the part of me that gets grumpy instead of pathetic when sick.
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
Nope! I wrote most of this in one sitting so there wasn't time for there to be multiple versions. Most of the scenes were one and done as well.
10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?
I wanted Apollo to take care of me. Klavier is my special boy. It just worked out.
11: What do you like best about this fic?
I made so many quick character decisions, particularly about Klav, and I'm happy with all of them actually. My favorites are that he was very close with his Oma and that he just casually keeps a story book by the bed, probably one that his Oma read to him. He is also specifically Austrian in this fic which is reflected in book choice but idk if that's even something people would notice.
12: What do you like least about this fic?
I don't know how else I would have written it, but I made a lowkey ad for Project Gutenberg when referencing the book and it feels clunky to me, but I might just be nitpicking. I genuinely enjoy everything else. I think as a story it's good, I think technically it's good. I stand by my assessment that this is the best thing I've written so far.

omgg 6, 8, 9, 10, 25, 30, 46, 79 for that big ass AA meme :3
Ace Attorney: 100Q Ask Meme
WAA thank you Ruby!!
6. Favourite Antagonist (in the role of the antagonist! e.g Edgeworth in AA1 counts but only in AA1.)
Ohh, man. Good question. I don't think she's the best one, I just really like Ga'ran. I think she has a lot of potential as a villain and they did a pretty good job building her up throughout SOJ. I also like the personal connections she has to the main cast. It adds a lot of stakes and it is a great thing to flesh out. I especially like her dynamic with Nahyuta. It really grabs me, but I love her dynamic with her whole family, too. She's one of the worst prosecutors but she is a great villain lol.
In terms of best antagonist, I think maybe Dahlia Hawthorne. She's my favorite antagonist from the original trilogy, at least.
8. All time favorite character?
Nahyuta!!!!! Before I played SOJ it'd have been Fulbright, and before the AJ trilogy it would've been Ryunosuke. And before TGAA it would've been Edgeworth or Franziska lol. But at this point Nahyuta is my number one. I think he's such a great character. I actually don't think his writing is as bad as it seems either after replaying Magical Turnabout last night. It's definitely underbaked but man he is so fucking funny and likable. Yes, he's quieter and less of a stand out than some other prosecutors but I like how impersonal he is. It's kinda the point, innit? That nothing of his real self is left and he's got nothing but the sanitized version of himself that keeps him alive?
I could write about him forever. Obviously. The question is just if I manage to finish anything now lol.
9. Least favourite character?
Honestly? Klavier.
There's probably other characters that annoy me more but I just don't like this guy. He kinda just gets on my nerves and he didn't click with me at all during AJ-- though that entire game did not click with me, so that could also be it. He's kinda boring. His personality is really weak, his dynamic with all of the characters feel really weak too and I feel like it says a lot that most of the dynamics he has is just people being annoyed that he exists KRKFJ
Sorryyy not to be a hater I know a lot of people love him. He just ain't for me.
I also don't particularly like Larry but he's kinda easy to forget about. But any time he shows up I'm just like -deep sigh-. He's pretty funny in the first game though, so there's that.
10. Favourite trial from all the games?
KMS I FORGOT THIS ONE ORIGINALLY SORRY
Anyways that's a good question. I think it's gotta be The Resolve of Ryunosuke Naruhodo. It just goes so hard, it's so satisfying to play because you keep solving each layer of mystery and have to go deeper. I think the deus ex machina with the "and I was recording the whole time!!" thing is stupid as FUCK but the rest of the case is legit great. This also includes the previous case since it's just part 1 and 2.
Fave original trilogy case is probably Bridge to the Turnabout or Farewell, My Turnabout. fave AJ trilogy case is probably Turnabout Revolution.
25. Favourite rare pair?
Is Skye/madhi a rarepair. It's rare compared to more popular Yuta ships at least, and it's my fave AA ship overall. They're t4t and Ema makes Yuta want to be a better person and he admires her so much for everything she is and everything she is capable of. And she thinks he's hot KRKFJK
I also like them as a QPR, but them being a QPR and them dating basically is the exact same to me. Trust me I am an expert (<-- aroace). I originally headcanoned Nahyuta as being a bisexual aromantic (and same for Ema) and I'm not sure if I still do so if he is (because ultimately to me he is just queer. What he is is none of my business KRKFN), QPR, if not, bi4bi t4t couple. Well, that's them regardless, but you see how it is.
My issue with the rarepair term is I really don't know what necessarily counts as one in a fandom as big as this, so in this instance, I'm just going with "lesser popular ship" or "ship that isn't the most popular for a character." I'm used to being invested in ships where I am, quite literally, the only person who ships them, so it's hard coming to a fandom where I like ships other people like too KRKF
Otherwise, idk, Black/bright if that counts? I love them a lot. And if that doesn't count. I don't fucking know. Dhurke/Datz then KRKD
(don't want this winding up in ship tags so putting slashes lol)
30. Character you’d push off a cliff with no hesitation?
Inga. I don't think I need to explain this one KRKF
46. Character you thought you were gonna dislike but loved in the end?
NAHYUTA!!! I watched videos ranking the AA cases after I finished the original trilogy. I didn't mind the spoilers because I didn't know how to emulate DD or SOJ so I didn't know if or when I'd ever play them. I let them convince me he was a horrible boring prosecutor. I let them convince me that I was really going to hate SOJ and then I DIDN'T!!!! He's great!!!
79. How long have you been in the fandom?
It depends? I played the original trilogy early last summer after buying it for like 3 dollars on the 3DS shop before it closed. I was out of games to play and I'd had it for months so I said fuck it and played it and really liked it, but it didn't get me super invested in the fandom the way I got into it this year. I played TGAA that summer as well and that really compelled me. So I was def into the series last summer, but I only got insane about it after playing the AJ trilogy after the remaster came out.
So... in a normal sense? Last summer. In the "this is my special interest" sense? February of this year.

back at it again ranking aa4 lawyers based on how terrible I think they would be to work for if you were their file clerk. I’ve basically known how this was going to go since 4-2 but it still took over two weeks after finishing the game to make this post. I have a normal amount of thoughts & feelings I promise
phoenix: I was gonna say that since he’s not practicing he doesn’t need a file clerk anyway but actually I do think reforming the legal system takes quite a bit of paperwork and he could probably use a hand. still would absolutely not work for him tho. I prefer being compensated for my labor, especially if my boss is always either mysteriously absent or spouting cryptic bullshit. 0/10. not even a pity point this time. rip apollo
apollo: would be fine if he weren’t working for phoenix tbh. like if he had his own office and a slightly more well-established career I would absolutely work for him. he’s considerate, he seems horrified by the state of the WAA which is a green flag Imo, and he’s just. a decent guy and a good lawyer. also he had that line abt enjoying tedious procedure so I think we would get along, and more importantly, that tells me that he would be reasonably neat with his own files and not make my job more difficult either accidentally or on purpose. 7/10 would befriend him on l*nkedin just in case he ever starts his own firm
payne: look, the vibes aren’t great and I’m running out of jokes abt this guy. I will say that I think it’s incredibly funny how thoroughly he gets ignored in his own trial and being able to make fun of your boss with your coworkers (which you would have bc there’s no way there’s just one file clerk for the entire prosecutor’s office, y’know?) is a very important aspect of surviving a shitty workplace so. there’s that. 3/10, could survive it by mocking him but not ideal
klavier: he doesn’t even have a desk. he’s working on at least 3 cases at once but he keeps his cds and his guitars nicer and neater than his books or his case files. there are papers all over his floor and falling out of his filing cabinet. his one advantage over the real attorney I worked with who had an office approximately that messy is that at least klavier probably knows exactly where everything is himself, which is great for him but not especially helpful to the poor beleaguered file clerk trying to get his files updated as quickly as possible so they can escape his office with minimal hearing damage. 6/10, at least he’s like. friendly
kristoph: the best-case situation here is that you work for him for maybe a few years, overlapping with the beginning of apollo’s career as his assistant, because then you have the bonus of also having apollo as a coworker (see above), and then you leave for normal reasons, get him to give you a good reference for your next job while he’s still widely respected, and when you read abt the events of 4-1 in the news a few months later you go “damn that’s wild” and move on with your life
ok. listen. listen. obviously a boss who has committed murder is not ideal, for several obvious reasons including that murder is bad and also that if your boss goes to jail and his law firm closes you no longer have a job (rip apollo). but at least you could probably get unemployment for that, since it’s not your fault you don’t have a job anymore. anyway. the main point is, unfortunately, I do think he would be the best boss of any of these people (except probably apollo in a few years). he prob has a very specific filing system and he likes things to be done exactly right, but because he wants things to be done right, because having your files organized and up-to-date so that you can meet deadlines is how you avoid making yourself look like an idiot to the courts, it will be made very clear to you what the right way is, and that’s like. what you want when you’re organizing someone’s shit Imo. 8.5/10, he gets .5 taken off for each murder attempt

For the headcanon game, please give your thoughts on Phoenix and Klavier? :D
Oh you’re just BEGGING for angst aren’t you lmao
(The last headcanon includes Klapollo! If you’re not into that, you can skip it! ^.^)
Spoilers for AA4! You’ve been warned!
Realistic Headcanon:
Klavier is the kind of person who easily just goes along with whatever’s going on. Trucy needs an assistant for her show? Klavier’s afternoon is free, so sure, why not? Apollo needs a ride to a place several hours away because of a potential lead for his newest case? Well Klavier has to know where this is going, so he will absolutely give him a ride. Phoenix and Athena are teasing Apollo? Klavier has no idea how this started, but he is absolutely joining in.
Phoenix is very similar, but only because he believes that he has completely lost control over his life and has simply decided to embrace the chaos (he adopted Trucy, after all). This could lead to many hilarious situations between the two, where they are stuck in some kind of wacky circumstance and both of them simultaneously are just like “ok sure, this might as well happen”. Bonus points if they are also accompanied by someone who is most certainly not okay with the situation (perhaps Edgeworth or Apollo?) and is very nonplused by their attitude.
(More Headcanons Below!)
Unrealistic (but Hilarious) Headcanon):
They were both theater kids! If there was a theater production in their schools, they were at least part of the ensemble, if not one of the starring roles. I’d like to imagine it’s a major point of bonding for the two, where they debate over the best numbers in certain musicals, gush over some of the less-known productions, and even sing together. And they are both VERY extra about it, using fake props and everything (much to Apollo’s chagrin).
Heart-Crushing and Awful Headcanon(s):
I know you probably want to know my thoughts on how Phoenix and Klavier reconcile, and I’m more than happy to share, so I’ll discuss that before giving you another sad headcanon that I adore.
I think it’s unrealistic that Phoenix never blamed Klavier. Law was his passion, his reason for living. It was an exhausting and trying job, but he loved it. He loved saving people and solving mysteries. It would be one thing if he had actually forged evidence and had his badge taken away rightfully, but the incident that lost him his job was clearly not his fault. And it’s hard, in situations like that, to avoid looking for someone to place the blame, even when it’s not their fault either.
But I’d like to think that Phoenix is a good judge of character. When he next sees Klavier, presumably not long after losing his badge, the younger man is a shadow of the confident performance he displayed in court. He acts just as stuck-up and self-absorbed as he was during that trial, but years of dealing with liars has taught Phoenix a lot. He sees the doubt weighing on Klavier’s shoulders, the hesitance that weighs his movements and decisions. He sees a kid, about the same age as Maya when he first met her, and he can’t be mad at Klavier, not really.
And then he meets Kristoph, and he learns who his enemy truly is.
Years pass, Kristoph is behind bars where he belongs, and Vera Misham opens her eyes. Klavier finally learns the truth, and it’s everything he feared. The roles have been reversed, where Phoenix has been an upstanding man this entire time, and he feels like the fraud. He can’t look Trucy Wright in the eyes anymore, and the mere thought of Phoenix Wright is enough to bring him to tears.
I can’t say exactly how long Klavier stews in his guilt. Probably a month after the trial, before Chief Prosecutor Edgeworth notices his behavior and practically demands that he takes some time off for his mental health. And then a few months more, when for the first time in his life, Klavier finds himself unable to play music.
Perhaps it’s Trucy who arranges it, who calls Klavier to the WAA when she knows it’ll only be her father in the office. Perhaps it’s Apollo, who saves Klavier from the darkness inside of him once again and challenges him to act. Perhaps Phoenix initiates the conversation, sending Klavier an invitation he knows he can’t refuse. Or perhaps Klavier goes himself, wanting to see Apollo for business or personal reasons, and encounters Phoenix alone by pure chance.
Either way, the end result is the same. Words are exchanged, many tears are shed, and a hug is shared. And for the first time in seven years, Klavier feels light.
And Another:
In the first case of the fourth game, Apollo learns that Phoenix tricked him into presenting forged evidence (although I have my thoughts about whether or not this evidence was actually forged, but I digress). His first reaction is anger, something so raw and powerful that his first instinct is to punch his former idol in the face.
When Apollo finds out that Trucy is his sister, and that Phoenix had been hiding this fact for years, anger is no longer his first reaction. This devastation runs deeper, because Phoenix was no longer a man he simply idolized. He was a mentor, a friend, someone that Apollo had gotten to know over the years. Someone Apollo had slowly learned to trust again, even after Phoenix had betrayed him.
And that trust had been broken again. This time, Apollo’s first reaction wasn’t to lash out. It was to run, trying to hide the tears running down his face as he tried to distance himself as far as he could before he got hurt again.
However, when Klavier learned of this, anger was his first reaction. And in a perfect mirror of Apollo’s actions during his debut as a defense lawyer, the first thing Klavier does when he sees Phoenix is punch him in the face.
It takes a long time for Apollo to forgive Phoenix, and it takes even longer for Klavier. And this devastates Phoenix, because as much as he hates losing Apollo, someone he sees as a son, he had also become extremely fond of Klavier. And after years of Klavier seeing Phoenix as a fraud, it hurt to see the rockstar prosecutor looking at Phoenix with distain once again.
Unrealistic Headcanon That Will Probably Never Happen:
Phoenix adores Klavier. Probably sees him as a son.
But no man will ever be good enough for his other son Apollo.
So hijinks ensue! Klavier tries to bring Apollo flowers? Uh oh where did they go? Phoenix certainly did not hide them before Apollo returned! Klavier wants to ask Apollo out to dinner? “Oh hey Apollo do you mind working overtime just this once? I’ll actually pay you this time!”
Bonus points if Trucy is working to get Klavier and Apollo together, meaning that she and her father are actively working against each other. More bonus points if they are both aware of what the other is doing, prompting snide comments and competition between the two (as well as a wager or two). Even more bonus points if, while the two are locked in this competition and completely preoccupied with undermining the other, Klavier and Apollo figure things out on their own and have a lovely, uninterrupted date.
Thanks so much for the ask! And sorry that it took so long!

hi! i'm coming for your ace attorney/homestuck aus. you cannot hide in the tags. talk about them >:3
(only if you want ofc, no pressure, just a lot of interest)
lmao well if you insist~
(also shout out to my good buddy @jayljester / @jaylillustrates for being the main person I bounced ideas off of for this back in like.. 2020/2021 you should check them out their art is phenomenal)
so as I said before, there's actually three days. in order from least to most developed they are:
-attorneystuck
-turnabout alternia
-ace legislacerators
attorneystuck is your classic "what if x characters played sburb" story. have not thought much of it past that
turnabout alternia is a theoretical case wherein normal phoenix wright (and probably some other characters idk) get translated to alternia and have to defend one of the trolls (probably karkat) in a trial. I have no other details on this but terezi is probably either the prosecutor or the weird girl. think turnabout storm but instead of horses it's Homestuck.
ace legislacerators is the most developed & my favorite of the three. the idea behind it is sort of a rewrite of the ace attorney story line but on alternia? specifically an au alternia where humans and trolls live together. the impacts of this in society include reforms such as murder being actually illegal and frowned upon due to human influences, adults staying on alternia, trolls having actual family units, jobs such as legislacerator not actually being limited to one caste, etc etc. these changes are not pretty recent, probably being first implemented around/shortly before the tgaa era.
I feel I should also mention that by no means is the caste system gone. lower castes are still widely treated like garbage, and higher castes are still treated very well
for fun, here's a list of castes for the characters as I remember them bc again I have barely thought about this au in years :p (under the read more bc this post is already long)
Phoenix: indigo blood/human hybrid, explains why he's hardy enough to be able to withstand all the stuff he does
Edgeworth: Violet blood, he fishie :)
Larry: token human. just a normal guy.
Gumshoe: olive blood. I mean his jacket is already the perfect color
Von Karma: the von karma's are all teal bloods! they also hold the idea that as teals they are "natural hatched legislacerators" (aka Manfred is hemophobic despite not even being in that high of a caste)
Godot: as Diego Armando, he was a rust blood. but when he was poisoned they ended up filling him with teal blood! so diego=burgundy, godot=teal
Apollo: Apollo is a rust! he has normal horns AND hair horns so some people think he's a gold and get scared of his supposed psionics.
Gavin: If I recall correctly, the Gavins are both purple bloods. clown Gavins teehee. (klavier is probably more into the messiahs than kristoph, but I think both of them are very low-key about it)
Trucy: I don't actually remember trucy's caste but I *think* she was a burgundy? would make sense given. events. as well as her outfit as a kid being red.
Athena: She's an actual gold with psionics :) I never drew her, but my design concept for her involved her having four eyes, one for each color of the mood matrix.
Blackquill: I don't actually remember having one for him. Uhhhhh.. Ummm. Cobalt? yeah sure cobalt. taka is his "lusus" (even though lusii aren't actually parental figures anymore in this universe, they're more like pets but still have parental instincts)
Judge: purple blood. clown judge lol.
FEYS/KUHRA'IN ROYAL FAMILY:
so they're a special case. all people capable of spirit channeling or descendants of spirit channelers are a secret 13th caste... lavenders! in terms of hierarchy, lavenders would fall between violet and fuchsia (yes they are sea dwellers), but are generally unknown due to being mutants and also being a very very small caste. only some lavenders can channel spirits, just like how only some cobalts can mind control, only some burgundies have telekinesis, & only some golds have psionics. so yeah. all the feys are fish ladies :) (to explain why dahlia was able to cut ties from the feys, she simply just faked being a violet, shrimple as that)

Fave Sprites in each AA Game: AJ
(Spoilers for Apollo Justice)
Fourth game in the series. This game marked a turning point in the series for a bunch of very obvious gameplay-related reasons, but it also marked a huge change of direction in the art direction: Characters had way more animations, they were more detailed, had more frames, they even had the perceive animations which required an extremely detailed and large sprite to be created. I think this game is tied with another one later on for my favourite overall art direction in the whole series. There's only a single character design I truly despise, and he's not that b- Okay, actually Spark Brushel really is that bad. Anyways, I'm dragging on; Let's get to it!
(Oh btw I have other posts in this series so check them out if you like this one.)
Animation 1:
Tumblr media
Something you'll notice in this batch of animations is that a majority of my favourite sprites come from the main characters (defense attorney, designated weird little girl, prosecutor).
My other posts in the series don't tend to include these repeating animations because they repeat often and quickly grow tiring. But not in this game. These animations fucking slap and do so much to make these characters endearing.
Let's just look at this Apollo animation: He's so embarrassed! Not only are his shoulders positioned in a way that's already giving away that he's flustered, but he's blushing, he has an awkward smile on, and he's nervously playing with his hair. Starting in this game we begin to get actual animations; his hair has anticipation and followthrough (two of the most important animation principles to get an object to look cartoonish and playful).
It's a very charming sprite and makes Apollo extremely endearing to the player.
Animation 2:
Tumblr media
Man... I really miss Klavier :(
Anyways, let's not get too down in the dumps; we should enjoy this wonderful animation instead. First of all, look at those HANDS. The detail and secondary actions in this sprite are what really tie everything together. He's so committed to his air guitar and he has a charming smug smile on; it's impossible not to playfully roll your eyes.
I'm also a really big fan of long animations with a purpose. Something like uh... Solomon Starbuck's sigh in 5-4 is just kind of annoying and there to drag out the game. With Klavier however, the animation has a purpose! It makes us roll our eyes at this dumb music nerd along with Apollo. We also know that he's probably gonna make a point, which gets us thinking ahead about what his counterargument might turn out to be.
This sprite is really good from an animation standpoint and a gameplay one.
Animation 3:
Tumblr media
It's the SQUIMPSY!!! The TRUCY OF ALL TIME! DUDE, YES!
I had to choose between this and her Mr. Hat sprite, but settled on this simple idle animation. I really like it when characters still move even when they're not talking, and I don't just mean their blinking.
There's so much followthrough and secondary action in this sprite that it makes me want to explode because it's so fucking good. Just watch the loop a couple times and try to focus on a different part each time; do you see how much detail there is?
Her red scarf? Moves. Her hair and earring? They move too. The little jangly bits at the end of her cape? You guessed it; they MOVE!
What a banger of a sprite. Touché, Ace Attorney artists. Touché.
Animation 4:
Tumblr media
THE BETRAYAL! THE COMEDY! THE TRICKERY! THE ABSURDITY OF THE WHOLE CHARACTER AND DESIGN!
Forget "Farewell, My Turnabout" or "Turnabout Trump": THIS is the most surprised I felt in the whole series (I'm only half-joking).
This sprite is one of the funniest visual gags in the series, and it deserves a place on this list.
Animation 5:
Tumblr media
I just had to include this animation. Every once in a while, a sprite will stick with you, and you'll sometimes remember that moment better than the rest of the case. This was one of those times.
These types of animations and the ones I've mentioned in other posts (Adrian's card flipping ,Ron's hair springs ,Winfred's eyebrows) are kind of the whole reason I even began making these lists.
I wanted to showcase how sometimes the best animations aren't extremely elaborate, show-stopping displays of storytelling prowess. Sometimes it's just a girl catching some plates :]
(Oh but also this is a good hint that Olga may be more than meets the eye. Her reflexes seem to be a little too good for the bumbling, shy waitress she's pretending to be.)
That'll do it for now. See you next time in our first (but not last) very big deviation in how these games art style is showcased; Ace Attorney Investigations 1!

DIRECTOR'S CUT! give me the rundown on Lemon Boy!
Oh god uhh. That is three whole chapters lol it's gonna be a bit long oof
Okay so like. The concept started from this Cavetown Album (called Lemon Boy, fittingly) and me singing Lemon Boy to myself one day and going, "huh. Apollo and Snufkin both fit this song. I should do something with that." (I pretty easily spiraled into shipping the two help)

I wanna be ten feet tall!! I wanna grow big red horns!! I wanna eat fire and snow!! And scare everyone!!
Uhh yeah go listen to Ten Feet Tall it's a good song. Very Apollo vibes.
(I love to write to music, if you couldn't tell. Sprinkling in the motifs or imagery of them is like my fave thing to do it's so much fun.)
Tumblr media
It is very important to me that you understand that Apollo's love language is to shove. This is my headcanon and I will go to the grave pushing this agenda. XD
The concept of Apollo tracking down one of his old foster caretakers was actually something I came up with while jamming out a different story with Tega. It was a nice little heartbreaking thing to include in Apollo's backstory and so I put it here. Shit's fucked, my boy, I'm sorry.
(Maple and Ginger were purely named for food. Also lesbian couple because idk I will also die on this hill that Apollo is gay and had a lot of gay in his life.)
Tumblr media
I am pushing an Agenda and y'all will have to live with it. XD
But for real, I just like the concept of a young Snufkin, not really knowing any other way to console his friend, kissing him first and explaining it after. Snufkin and Apollo can understand each other in a way not a lot of the other kids around them could, so of course they'd also have a bit of a different relationship than those others.
This was also a good setup for the final chapter but it's really the entire reason I wrote this fic, I wanted this scene where Snufkin kisses Apollo and then Apollo pays it forward later in his life.
so uh I wrote the Clay chapter *after* finishing the first and last chapters!! I was originally just not gonna include a Clay segment (he was giving me too much trouble), but then I had a burst of inspiration and slammed it out so hey Clay gets to be in this lol.
Tumblr media
Also furthering my Apollo will bite agenda. I love the idea of Apollo not actually getting bullied because he fought back, but getting ignored and avoided actually because, again, he fought back. I think it fits his character pretty well to have that in his background, considering how desperate he is for validation.
Clay is also weird to me. Like, he's such a blank slate for characterisation that I end up not knowing what to do with him half the time and that kinda makes him boring to me. He's only fun because *I* made him fun, which can be nice but like. The Ace Attorney roster is filled with too many good characters for him to stand out at all. Dual Destinies made Clay an important fixture in Apollo's backstory, though, so fuck me I guess.
Finally, Klavier chapter!! I got to start off with Apollo just buying the concert tickets Klavier sent, which as you know is my favourite little detail. Klavier sending these tickets is such an unhinged move but Apollo then buying them without a second thought is just as unhinged, these two are dumbasses and perfect for one another. XD
Tumblr media
IT'S ME I'M STILL MAD ABOUT THIS. Phoenix goddamn Wright you cannot make Apollo present two (two!!) pieces of forged evidence and then never apologise for it!!! And then Spirit of Justice rolls around with Dhurke's whole deal and!!! Makes everything worse!!!
I have a whole ten or so rants about how AJ's ending is made worse actually by SoJ's inclusion (because how could Apollo be "too new" to law when he grew up with a literal disgraced defence attorney?? How could he have nothing to say on the poisoned system when he's known Dhurke and Khura'in's whole deal for all his life??? I'm upsetti I am so upsetti about this) but I'll save that for another time >T
Tumblr media
I just really like this bit. Absolutely added this scene it does not exist in canon, but. I like Apollo's last line. Maybe one day you won't be such a coward, Klavier. Maybe one day you'll stop running from the truth.
And agh. The whole conversation scene in the lobby is just. Catharsis but not. I ended up playing the comfortable-but-also-not mood the two got stuck in, Apollo reaching out and Klavier dodging his advances (like the coward he is lol) until Klavier finally does accept that offer. I just like their dynamic, two men touched by ruin and reacting to it in vastly different ways. Klavier runs until he sees someone else in need and Apollo reaches out against all of his better instincts. They're my faves <3
Tumblr media
*screaming from the rooftops* IT'S ABOUT TRUST!! IT'S ABOUT TRUSTING SOMEONE WHOM YOU SHOULD ABSOLUTELY UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES NEVER THINK ABOUT TRUSTING!!! BUT YOU TRUST THEM ANYWAY!! AND THEY TRUST YOU IN RETURN!!! agh
I like the whole scene of them talking outside the car (and fun fact, I have an actual location in mind for them to be at; it's near the Conejo Boulders, which isn't LA whoops but is a view ingrained into my mind), but particularly this bit (of course) --
Tumblr media
YEAH KISS!! it's a parallel (or rhyme??) to the one Snufkin gave him in the first chapter!! It's Apollo internalizing that lesson and paying it forward!! Yeah.
The end bit is funny specifically to me. Like yeah Apollo just spent a whole day making out and talking with Klavier and only when Klavier is like, taking care of him (making breakfast) does Apollo go "oh. Shit. I might desire this man romantically." Like lol amazing my fave. XD
ANYWAY YEAH LEMON BOY. I LIKE IT. At some point I'll finish the two sequel stories I've got in the works....

I’m making up an end of year fic writing ask thing because why not, all these answers apply to the past year
Most Popular fic
what if the real steel samurai fandom was the friends we made along the way by a long shot in every single measure. I did not expect this to be so popular
Favorite fic
To Turn the World Upside Down, my ace attorney au where Phoenix’s family is ‘blessed’ by a trickster god. Honestly I think it ranks among the best things I’ve written? I’m still in the middle of posting it, but I just think I do a good job with descriptions and character interactions and character growth in this one
Most unexpected fic
This is a tie between two Kamen Rider fics:
Endless Futures Ahead because it’s a Gou/Chase fic and I started writing this (in 2021 actually but whatever) before I’d even seen a full Kamen Rider series. I knew this show was going to suck me in if I ever started watching it (and it did), but I did not think I would write 20k+ words about characters in a show I had only seen a handful of episodes about
Across the River of Stars. I read the Blade novel, sat on it for like a week, particularly the ending where Kenzaki and Hajime agree to meet one night a year (just like the cowherd and weaver of myth, i thought!), and then out of nowhere I wrote 2k words at work about them meeting once a year in modern times. I started it about exactly a month ago and posted it today, so I think this is also the fic I’ve finished the quickest this year (that or my other Blade fic, idk how long that one took to write)
Fics for next year:
The next one I will post is a toss up between:
-the as of yet unnamed sequel to my steel samurai fic. this is 50% Klavier during aa4 having the Worst Year of His Life and 50% Klavier being heart eyes over Apollo, as seen through his unofficial social media (right now about 5k long, i’ve gotten past aa4-4 and the immediate aftermath, i just need to figure out where i want this to end, go over it a couple times, and then do all the formatting)
-The Future Where All Sorrows End (title subject to change) my Kamen Rider Blade soul nemesis au where Kenzaki and Hajime know that they are fated to be each other’s undoing from the moment they meet (right now somewhere in the 50-60k range. i need to finish the last scene, decide if i want to add a post-canon scene where Kenzaki hangs out with Kotaro and Hirose, and then do a bunch of editing but a lot of that i’ll do after i start posting chapters)
The next fic I plan to start writing:
Honestly probably a Kamen Rider W fic. I’m not entirely sure where I’m going with this premise, but I’ve had the rough idea in my head for 6ish months now and watching Fuuto PI + rewatching W with my brother is giving me feels. The basic premise is that instead of Gaia memories, it’s ghosts. Akiko shows up at the PI agency one day and is like “guys your business model sucks, we’re making a ghost investigating youtube channel as well as being private investigators”. Philip is the camera man never on screen but often making snarky comments from the background. The fic alternates between Wakana’s pov who is like ‘what is up with these youtubers that keep referencing my radio show’ and Philip who is like ‘i’m weirdly obsessed with this radio host but i don’t think it’s in a romantic way’. And then they start talking like in canon but no one dies and everything ends happily :) including for Kirihiko
Tagging @arofili @gallus-rising @queerfandommiscellany @moth-time and anyone else who wants to do this, my internet is wonky so i can’t see who follows me and i don’t have a good memory. Also feel free to change the questions if you want, I came up with these just now while sleepy

31) Do any system members have a different gender or sexuality? How do you guys handle this?
oh Boy, don't we.
so, yes, every single person has a unique gender identity and sexuality. to give a very brief rundown (with some detail lacking): i'm genderfluid & an arospec ace lesbian, dahlia is cis girl and aro bi, klav is queer in very way but sometimes IDs w bisexual, nightshade is gender apathetic and mspec, rory is cis guy and gay, cynthia is demi girl and something .
i could talk about this for a while, but this kind of thing actually crops up a lot of different issues or interesting phenomena. for one, gender dysphoria is shit when certain alters from -- rory gets horrible dysphoria and dysmorphia, klavier does as well, the others are more dysmorphia than dysphoria though. secondly our body has lived a very complicated life in terms of relationships and romantic/sexual attraction and having people be allosexual or alloromantic is kind of a mindfuck for us (looking at you klavier -_-)
the most interesting thing actually pertains to klavier, which is that the two of us have very closely linked experiences when it comes to attraction, and i'm a lesbian and he's a queer guy sort of creature that has a heavier preference towards men as a whole. meaning that i actually 'resonate' or 'feel like' a gay guy pretty often and he 'feels like' a lesbian pretty often because those experiences have overlap. it's really strange but a true bestie moment.
34) Do you see your system more as family, more as friends, more as roommates, or anything else?
there is no term better than systemmates, honestly. i've tried but it's pretty hard to figure it out because everyone has different relationships with one another.
some examples: klavier has in the past considered the system his family. he, dahlia, and i have called ourselves best friends, but i would not individually refer to dahlia as my best friend and vise versa. me and nightshade have a very non personal relationship and are the most distant of everyone in the system. rory and i could be considered to have a somewhat familial bond. cynthia is someone i consider a friend. klavier and dahlia lie somewhere more than friends but have no explicit relationship. etc.
36) Name your favorite quality of all the members you can think of! Including yourself! ;)
YAY YAY YAY OKAY.
me: i always want to improve myself and do better, as a host but also as a person, and have never really lost the desire to become a happy person, which is an extremely admirable quality for the hardship i have been through.
dahlia: despite an angry streak, she is able to keep a cool head when she needs to protect the system -- she holds me accountable for the things i do to wrong her but has never let her temporary annoyance with me get in the way of keeping me safe (same goes for everyone else in the system)
klavier: absolute ray of light, has gone through so much and yet is so endlessly kind, always lets himself feel things no matter how difficult it may be.
rory: knows his own boundaries but also supports other people as long as he physically can, will front to help me out but will not front long enough to experience the mental anguish he gets from prolonged times in the body, very trustworthy in that sense.
nightshade: has found a lot of joy for themself and has been able to strike the balance between work and relaxation.
cynthia: i know very little about them but they have nice music taste!

More alt posters for the AA games (except DGS 1 and 2). For those seeing these for the first time, these are not the first character and chapter combinations I’ve made. The ones in the past were either closer to the games’ own poster characters or my own feelings on who would fit better out of the main/recurring characters. This time, however, I’m stepping beyond just those characters.
Some of these choices are actually based on a friend’s character-to-case match in which each and every case in the franchise would have a distinct character representing it, as long as the character has appeared in at least 3 cases in the franchise. However, I’ll still be a bit more liberal with my selections this time. (I’m also motivated by color arrangements.)
1. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - My natural choice for T. Sisters would normally be Maya as it’s also her theme, but she might also be the only main character besides Edgeworth who could fit T. Samurai (though in the past, I used Gumshoe just for the sake of including him). But despite being the victim of T. Sisters, Mia is the only other character who fits it.
2. Justice For All - I was hesitant to use Maggey Byrde as that would warrant her selection for other cases she’s involved in, but I just didn’t feel like using Wright this time. With only four cases, I hoped to change a little more from the original than just two characters. That said, Shelly de Killer steals Farewell for me too (though I did like Edgeworth’s prior placement too).
3. Trials and Tribulations - Honestly, not too different from previous ones that I’ve done for T&T, only motivation here was to see Godot in red while Dahlia takes pink--just color experimentation.
4. Miles Edgeworth: AA Investigations - Like T&T, I didn’t have it in me to replace too many, but like my friend did, I chose Tyrell Badd for Reminiscence and Shih-na whom I never got to use before. And in their own ways, they are much like flipsides to Gumshoe and Kay (original mascots for those cases), respectively.
5. Miles Edgeworth: AAI2 Prosecutor’s Path - I was very liberal with this one and really just chose the characters that stole the cases for me, though I put Sebastian in “T Forgor” instead of Kay this time, because not only did the name fit his personality too, but let’s just say that every selected character would have some good reason to oppose the culprit’s of their matching cases here.
6. Apollo Justice AA - Motivation was to try Ema for Corner with a neat green background. And while I did like Klavier for Serenade, this time I chose the more resonant character. As for Succession, I still think Wright’s the better choice, but this time I just used the game’s choice of Kristoph just to include him once.
7. Dual Destinies - My friend matched the Judge with Countdown presumably since it involved the courtroom itself so I rolled with it. And as long as Juniper’s on Academy, I get to use Athena for a case that fits her no less--T for Tomorrow (since I’m still adamant about Blackquill on Monstrous T). I also went with the game’s decision to use Fulbright on Cosmic T this time, since he at least does fit the starry and dramatic atmosphere (to say nothing of his Amogus role).
8. Spirit of Justice - At this point most of these are self explanatory, so I’ll just explain Nahyuta for the Rite. Maya’s still the better choice for it, but I still wanted to include Nahyuta and I don’t think he’s the best choice for Revolution in spite of his synopsis there. But on Rite, he still does prosecute the whole case in his home country and the name of the chapter fits him.
