Souheki In Dazai’s Entrance Exam
plz don't take this post too seriously. It's not some proper analysis, mostly just my thoughts about the interactions.A little bias because I hc they actually are very close.maybe i'll make a post about why I think so in the future.
“So, newbie. Uh…Dazai, was it? Where did you work prior to coming here?” “Hmm?” Ranpo’s expression has faded, his eyes peering into Dazai’s as if he is searching for something. “I didn’t really do anything after finishing school. Was just kinda around, you know?” A few seconds go by as Ranpo silently stares at Dazai. Finally… “Oh, that’s nice. Anyway, welcome to the agency.” And that’s it. He begins laying out the documents across the desk as if nothing happened. What was that just now?
So since LN1 is in Kunikida's pov.Notice how in this scene not only Ranpo is staring at Dazai,Dazai was ALSO looking back.IT WAS MUTUAL.They were both silently observing each other.i assume Dazai’s back was face Kunikida so that’s why we can’t see his expressions.
ok this part is just my pure delusion but i imagine Dazai was wearing his usual plastic smile(yk he still not used to interact with others )when answering Ranpo, but as time passed by,it has faded just like Ranpo’s.Then they just have some of the most intense staring contest.Imagine the tension in the room lol,no wonder Kunikida was so confused.I also believe Ranpo's response is some kind of his way to implicitly promise Dazai he won't expose him and wish him good luck on starting a new path.
i think dazai was confident that no one will find out his past since they can’t use ability on him,and in those few seconds he realized Ranpo just figured it out(tbh maybe even more than that considered Ranpo have met oda the day he died and ada collaborate with special division sometimes he may have met Ango),thus he started to question if that’s actually his ability.
“Dazai, what was that about?” “Don’t ask me… By the way, what kind of skill user is Ranpo?”
lol Kunikida was so clueless,he’s like you two just met what r you up to what’s with that silent intense staring.
“What?! Is there really a skill like that?!” It seems even Dazai can hardly believe it.”  “I dunno, it’s just hard to believe a skill like that actually exists.” He doesn’t appear convinced.
It's hilarious Dazai asked Kunikida what Ranpo’s ability is when the man himself is just right in front of him.
“That’s what makes it so amazing! Listen to this. When Ranpo was thinking, I sneaked up behind him and pinched some of his hair.”
Dazai openly doubted if an ability like it would exist before Ranpo started deducing. So Ranpo may have been cautious and noticed Dazai was sneaking behind and testing it.But weirdly he didn’t seem to mind if Dazai would tell the others(yes i believe he had already knew he doesn't have one even before LN1)like that’s not one of his biggest secret.
Even if he didn't notice at that time,he surely would when he noticed Kunikida’s curious gaze next time they met.But he never said anything for yrs.Maybe he was just rather let others know than confronts it with Dazai. He didn't directly admit to Yosano in guild arc either.
Ranpo who never tells others Dazai’s past VS Dazai who shamelessly continually tells ada members Ranpo is abilityless will never not be funny to me.
But seriously Ranpo is so sweet he trust and respect Dazai from the very start, even knows his background he still completely accepted him, willing to give him a chance to be with the good side.i love souheki.
“He possesses tremendous deductive and observational skills that your average fictional detective could only dream of.” “That’s what impressed me. A skill would make this just another phenomenon, which wouldn’t even be surprising, let alone impressive. But Ranpo is utilizing his brain, something we all have, to reach these conclusions.” “That guy’s got some serious powers of deduction and observation! And even Ranpo himself seems to think he’s using a skill. Man, that is one amazing detective. I need to start applying myself more.”
Aside from genuine appreciation here,it may also because of his gratitude for Ranpo’s silence.
I love seeing Dazai simping over Ranpo.Like even in current arc he still praises him a lot. He's so fond of him🥲🥲🥲

Chuuya is so interesting because despite everything about his design, he's not really an antagonist, and only a villain because of his massive list of crimes and association with the Port Mafia. Every one of his appearances he's often HELPED our protagonists.
the only instance that I can think of where he was REALLY playing an antagonistic role was the tunnel fight against Yosano and Kenji. But even then he was just acting as a messenger on behalf of to warn the ADA get cracking on saving their employees and fighting the Guild.
ACTUALLY, speaking of Chuuya being kind of a messenger. Every time he appears in the manga you KNOW some huge narrative changes are about to go down
dazai learning about the guild's bounty on atsushi
atsushi coming up with the idea to ally with the mafia
the q threat being solved
the city not being destroyed in dead apple
ada vs pm war in cannibalism
ada being saved in the helicopter scene and the alliance with the mafia
we don't know how this will pan out yet, but chuuya's reintroduction as a vampire in the prison arc seems to be leading to some major status quo changes in the battle against Dostoevsky and kickstart character development in both him AND Dazai.
There's been a lot of discussion on how chuuya is trapped in his circumstances, but low-key it's way more meta than that. Chuuya is kind of a hero trapped within a villain's role.

Hello it is I. The annon who is a sucker for found family dynamics. I’m back on my bullshit again. Buckle the fuckle up (affectionately)
So. Having some more thoughts with your Swap!AU (It is glorious. It has lived in my head rent free for several hours now.) I have some thoughts, mainly with the Guild Arc. Please don’t feel pressured to answer each one of my questions!!
— Beginning of the Arc:
1: How would Chuuya react to Kouyou attacking Atsushi and somewhat playing a part in separating Atsushi and Kyouka?
2: Would Chuuya have still contacted Ango, leading to the car accident, and thus leaving Atsushi alone when Fitzgerald first showed up?
— Atsushi’s Capture:
1: Would Chuuya realize, or perhaps sense that something happened to Atsushi when the tiger was first captured and taken on board the Moby Dick?
2: How would Chuuya react to Atsushi’s capture by the Guild if he was aware of it? Would he storm up there if someone didn’t stop him?
— “Incineration of Yokohama” Plan:
1: How does Chuuya behave during the Guild’s “Incineration of Yokohama” plan? Does he act like his cannon counterpart and try to save the citizens, or would he be doing something else?
2: How is Dogra Magra stopped? Is it still Dazai that finds Atsushi when he lands from the airship?
3: If it is Dazai that finds the tiger rather than Chuuya, would Atsushi still pose the idea of the Agency and Port Mafia teaming up to defeat the Guild, even in the face of a Port Mafia Executive?
4: Again. If it is Dazai that finds Atsushi, and assuming Dazai was alone (likely to keep away from any misunderstandings with subordinates, now that I think about it) Would he take Atsushi back to the ADA building so he could recover from his injuries? (He likely knows No Longer Human would keep Atsushi from healing while the tiger was on his back, but also doesn’t want to deal with Chuuya yelling at him for leaving Atsushi passed out in the street where he could still be shot at)
5: Going off #4. How would Chuuya react to seeing his apprentice (*cough* little brother) being carried in by Dazai while badly hurt?
— Atsushi vs. Akutagawa on the Moby Dick:
1: Would Chuuya now be on the other end of the earpeice, or would it still be Dazai?
2: Would Akutagawa try and fight Atsushi while on board the Moby Dick? Or would he behave differently?
3: Based off #1. If it is Chuuya on the other end of the earpeice, would Atsushi still need to use it to distract Akutagawa? Would Atsushi keep wearing it past that fight if it wasn’t damaged?
4a: (Now going by the assumption the connection is Chuuya and Atsushi) would the link to Atsushi remain active on Chuuya’s end, if we were to assume it was somehow Dazai that was contacting Kyouka?
4b: I don’t exactly know why. But Chuuya being the one to give Kyouka the odd pep-talk(?) seems weird, considering he didn’t necessarily want to leave the PM, but rather he was forced to do so. However, Dazai, the one who had forced Chuuya out could likely reach out to her in some way. I suppose a motive for Dazai saving Kyouka would be Oda. He’d be “saving another from the darkness,” after all. He’d likely know Kyouka needed to pass an exam for Fukuzawa’s ability to take hold and allow her to control Demon Snow too.
6: Based off #5, Assuming Atsushi’s earpiece wasn’t damaged, would Chuuya hear Fitzgerald talking about Atsushi’s past in the Orphanage? How would he react if so? (Considering not only was Chuuya learning about what the orphanage did to Atsushi, he was learning about it from someone other than Atsushi- who simply talked about the abuse like it was nothing, or perhaps wanted to use the past to make Atsushi shut down).
6: Would Akutagawa still react the same way to Fitzgerald speaking about Atsushi’s time at the orphanage? (Assuming their relationship at the time is slightly different than it is in cannon.)
———
Again. A lot of Atsushi. Sorry.
I blame the lack of cannon interaction between them.
Anyways. I’m gonna start leaving a “signature” just so I can remember I was the one who asked the many questions. I shall return.
~ M.C

GOD I LOVE KNKDZ SM I wanna hold them and treasure them like literally they could be so precious they have so much potential and ik we have to wait a few more months but I'm sooo fuckin excited to see if they have a reunion if they don't I'll probs cry from stress or smth like even if someone doesn't ship it they're partners istg they are soo important and I hope we can see more of them in action cuz kunikida has been crying (canon) from stress and trying to bring shit together, like he was really working on gathering the members together again and like poor bby I feel so bad he needs a warm hug, also I feel like getting your hands cut off and your ideals crumbling in front of you was traumatic like he's ok now physically but I feel so bad and dazai is being fucking shot and falling of an elevator while defeating fyodor and walking it all of like ??? I need a sick fic with knkdz and the ada in general he deserves that and I hope so fucking sooo FUCKING much that they get a fuckin reunion like this is all I can talk and think abt now I keep repeating myself, I hope atsushi, dazai and kunikida get one bc I miss their trio so idk what is happening now that s5 is over and the Manga is catching up in a few months bc we saw that they're fighting again like oh fuck ngl I hope dazai gets hurt more so more sickfics or maybe Canon sickfics like in it actually fucking happens in the series but whatever in the end I want the ada to be safe again and destress a little bc oh my god this was their biggest fucking mission in their life and its been going on practically since the guild but whatever I have so so so so so so high hopes for the future and the rise of knkdz (I also ship skk but knkdz is my no. 1 and need way more of them) I hope knkdz will rise and conquer we have to get our fucking game up us knkdz advocates we have a DUTY anyways love ya ur so hot for that knkdz vs skk rant its fucking unfair pls pls pls pls post more knkdz I'm going feral its my last will to live I will kms if the Manga doesn't have them I will defenestrate asagiri I will find him trust me I fucking will anyways anywho anyfuckingway thank you for being a part of the knkdz cult we can soo win we just have to wait for asagiri and like OMG I just had SUCH a dopamine rush like I practically almost jumped bc IM SO EXCITED to see them YOU DONT UNDERSTAND I LOVE THEM SO MUCH PLS PLS PLS ASAGIRI PLS DONT DO THIS TO ME I CAN HEAR THEM I CANNN HEAAAAAR THEM PLS PLS PLS DONT PUNISH ME I WANT MORE KNKDZ I WILL FUCKING COMBUST anyways ur so cool and ur art is fuckin awesome have a great day and new year hopefully full with happiness, success, change, and kunikidazai
REAL OMFG‼️‼️ bitches forget that kunikida has been partnered with dazai for two entire years, only one less year than dazai’s partnership w chuuya (before ur like noooo it was seven!!!!! that doesn’t count. chuuya and dazai met at fifteen and didn’t even get partnered that year. it was only during the events of stormbringer when mori realized the only counter to chuuyas corruption was dazai’s ability and he made them go on missions together like they did during the arahabaki incident and they became known as double black. dazai left the mafia when he was eighteen due to oda’s death)
anyway knkdz have also had to trust each other with their lives time and time again and kunikida values this trust more than anything, always relying on dazai even if dazai pisses him the fuck off. dazai says himself that the ada is home to him when talking abt it to sigma, AND WHAT IS HOME BUT A PLACE FILLED WITH HAPPINESS AND THOSE WHOM YOU LOVE DEARLY AND WOULD DO ANYTHING TO PROTECT

BSD Chapter 105.5 – how it fits in Dazai character arc
Hello~~
I am back to writing and analysing… and still blocking bots apparently xD
Honestly this chapter was perfection xD  it made me giggle so much xD
I must say that ‘Fyodor taunting Dazai that he would be better boyfriend partner for Chuuya’ was on my wishlist - so thank you Asagiri-sensei xD Peak drama romance xD now we wait for Dazai to prove himself to be worthy partner xD
Tumblr media
Basically, shounen genre xD
Though I originally though that Arahabaki will be used to get out that flooding prison cell – this method was more fun as it looked so effortless xD But imo we will get Corruption eventually – it is just too important to Soukoku bond and it would be good opportunity to show Chuuya’s vampiric healing… and Chuuya tearing down Meursault would feel so cathartic to be honest. But we will see.
Okay, so in this post I want to focus on Dazai~~
We learnt that Dazai indeed don’t have manipulative intent towards Sigma *aww* 🥺 – he really just wants to save both Sigma and ADA – as per his way of life aka ‘being on beautiful side that saves people’
Tumblr media
But… on the other hand it was shown that Dazai’s plan really was simply to drown Fyodor and Chuuya too as collateral damage… which is obviously not good XD though it can be reasoned that this way he would save more people this way – but it is still bad and shows his fixation on killing Fyodor. And it is especially bad if you consider it from symbolic perspective – after all Chuuya represents both humanity and past to Dazai. After all, he was one of the reasons why Dazai stayed in mafia in Fifteen LN and basically Chuuya evokes humanity and will to life in Dazai. So drowning Chuuya symbolizes repressing these aspect by Dazai. Like self-denial how much Chuuya means to him.
Still it is just step in character development —
Essentially, this arc is about Dazai getting consequences about his past life in PM and him trying to deal and fix some mistakes of that time and the way he left. It is like trying to accept the past and learn from it and trying to be better in the future.
It is important to remember that it wasn’t Dazai’s masterplan to get into Meursault – but it is the result of past coming back to him as his wrongdoings were revealed:
Tumblr media
Basically Dazai lived trying to ignore his past and solely focus on working for ADA to save people. Ofc living in the present is not something bad, but outright trying to repress the past is not healthy thing to do.
This attitude was also shown in the hostile way Dazai treated people related to his past in Guild arc. For real he was so petty and mocking towards Akutagawa and Ango >_< and Chuuya too with how he had threated PM to get information… though it seems relatively small thing compared to getting Ango into hospital and his ill-meaning remarks to hurt Aku the most while he is the root cause of the latter insecurities.
But since Fitzgerald’s defeat Dazai is starting to treat them differently – he is more honest and sincere towards Ango and Akutagawa as he openly cooperates with them and explains his intentions. It especially means so much to Akutagawa as it is the recognition he always wanted from Dazai. Ofc it is not like all is perfect between them now, but it is surely step in right direction.
So logically, Chuuya is the next XD
From trope perspective – villain questioning protagonist bond with his friends/partner/etc is nothing new. It basically helps protag to be aware of their own flaws or insecurities and work on it, which results in bond growing stronger. I guess Soukoku will go that route too xD
Tumblr media
After all Soukoku is no perfect – they need to work on better communication for sure. Also, it was established that Chuuya is feeling hurt that Dazai left mafia with no word – something that Fyodor could easily exploit - imo we will get payoff for that in the future.
Soo finally —
Honestly I don’t care who is gonna to win this Dazai vs Fyodor duel. All what matters to me is that I hope we will get good character development and satisfying conclusion. The rest is like details to me xD My rough guess is that Dazai will win to emphasis his growth, but hopefully Fyodor will be saved if Asagiri is aiming for plot beats from Crime and Punishment novel. Imo he does but I am not 100% sure, so we will see~~
Thank you for reading and have a nice day <3

Hello again, sorry that i request you Mori's simp reader again (yeah, sorry i really want to finish her character arc too because her story is too much angst and too long already) so can i request Mori's simp reader X Kunikida (Platonic) it was first time both of them meet and hate each other. It also first time reader apper in person to ADA she didn't help them. She was here to do her mission. This request happen before Kyoka join ADA and before the guild apper
(I will be honest this request should be Mori's simp reader X ADA but i want Kunikida because he was same but different side to reader and he being main in this request quite make sense and...i want to see Kunikida react when he first meet reader too)
Woman run away for some group of people, she fall on the floor. Group of people tell her give up and come back with them. Woman was scared and she scream at them, group of people fall on floor some of them even pass out. Woman was crying now untill someone come near her, he try to calm her down. When she look up she see long blonde hair man with glasses the man who she call to ask to help her behide him was white hair young man with yellow eyes (can you add Kunikida and Atsushi react here?)
At morning woman thank you ADA for help her and she thank you for help her in murder case she tell them, she tell anyone her name is Hibiki, she was private investigator. Kunikida explain that someone hire Hibiki to find his big brother and when she investigate this case she find evidant that connect to recent murder case that happen. Atsushi ask her why she don't tell police. Hibiki said she tell them already but they give her ADA contact instead Kunikida said the group of people know her already, so she ask ADA to protect her (can you add other ADA members react here too?) Dazai come near her, he ask if she being police before she become privent investigator she said she become police for 2-3 before she ask Dazai how did he know. Dazai flirt to her by said because she capture his heart since he see her in first time, he creep Hibiki out Kunikida slap Dazai with his ideal book before lecture Dazai about manner. Hibiki ask Atsushi if it normal (and can you add Atsushi answer here?)
While ADA protect Hibiki in Port Mafia side Mori hear rumors about group of cult come in Yokohama. Leader cult herself try to hunt some woman that try to tell police and Mori have plan in his mind already but he want to talk with his three executives first. He call three of them in his office Mori tell them about group of cult and leader try to brianwash people in Yokohama to be her followers later kill them when they try to run away or know her true motive (can you add Chuya and Koyo conversations here?) Reader was listen quietly but she think if it connect to someone try to hurt her subordinate when he try to sell his weapon (reader was like Chuya here because she really mad when someone hurt her subordinates) Mori said he think Port Mafia can use Hibiki as a bait here, Chuya ask Mori if he want to go war with ADA. Mori said not yet he just want Hibiki. Mori said he send Akutagawa to kidnap her already.
(My dumb brain cannot think Akutagawa fight with ADA members here so if you don't mind can you add Akutagawa vs ADA here too) Akutagawa lose ADA have to protect Hibiki more (one more Hibiki protect Kunikida by use her echo ability to make Akutagawa fly away) Kunikida ask her about her ability Hibiki said she was ability user she can use her voice to break anything but if she lose control her ability will hurt the other and she hate it (can you add Kunikida react here?)
After Akutagawa lose, Mori decide to send someone scary to make ADA scared and don't come involved this case. Mori order reader to kidnap Hibiki, reader ask Mori if he want her to bring Chuya or Koyo with her. Mori said he want only reader. Reader know he want her to make ADA afaid but she want to try aviod conflit first so she take his order.
Next three weeks later Hibiki become close to Kunikida they both help each other working while Dazai like to look at her at morning there are black letter send to ADA when Naomi read it she was shock before she call anyone to look at this letter said they want Hibiki and they ask if ADA can send Hibiki to them (can you add ADA members react here?) Tanizaki think maybe it was prank but Ranpo said if it was prank why they know abou Hibiki, Ranpo said maybe it connect to port mafia after they send Akutagawa. Ranpo said this letter look too nice and friendly, it don't have torture word or sassy word because they confident they can aviod conflit even this letter ask to send them they victim, it mean who ever send this letter was dangerous criminal. When ADA members still argue someone know what it mean, Dazai know this letter come for reader. He remember when reader do mission alone she like to send letter to warn victim first because when she do mission with other she be protective to her team but when she do mission alone she care only mission and she will follow victim like bloodhound. Reader want victim to decide first before she do anything, Dazai also know they find big problem now (can you add Dazai explain everything here to anyone in ADA here? I want to know what will Dazai tell the other about his old best friend) Hibiki cry already she ask anyone not to send her to Port Mafia, Kunikida said he will protect her (can you add ADA members react here too?) Dazai said if anyone want to fight reader he recomment to be honest or yell angry at her but DON'T lie to her Dazai also said reader hate police too he stare at Hibiki before he walk away, Dazai still remeber when they both still young when police honest to reader she let them go but when police try to manipulate her, she kill them ruthless (can you add Dazai react here?)
Later Kunikida send torture letter back to reader Chuya ask what she want to do next, reader said she want to wait ADA first maybe they going to change they mind (can you add Chuya comment here?) Koyo come in reader's office she ask reader if reader can send Hibiki to Koyo if she kidnap her already Koyo said she want to investigate Hibiki first (can you add Chuya comment here?) Reader said she will try before she keep ADA's letter inside her table.
I will be honest i think this one should be Mori's simp reader intro, anyway thank you for write my request, if you want to add anything you can add here too. Thank you so much.
- Bossy anon
I hope that this is okay!

I'm also excited too for what we'll see in the final arc! I've seen some theories about Dazai himself being the book!? do you think that is true? Do you think it will be like a war to get hold of the book? I have so many questions…
omg i haven’t seen that theory before, but it sounds interesting! i don’t think Dazai himself is the book though, but he might be connected to it in some way. i also would be inclined to believe that part of the final arc might be an all-out ability war of some kind over the book, with all of our major characters coming together to defeat the Clock Tower perhaps? they seem to be the biggest threat considering they haven’t come into the story yet, and the story has to go somewhere after all of this Fukuchi and Fyodor/Dazai stuff. which might be hard to do in a way that’s satisfying or fitting to how much the story has built up over time (going from simple ADA vs PM, to then adding the Guild from across the world, and now powerful corrupted government figures and the Hunting Dogs, and a sword that can transcend time and space, and vampires…) and now has to potentially introduce a new antagonist after this arc is over and make it not anticlimactic after everything we’ve been experiencing since like, chapter 87-88.

Not sure what Bungo stray dogs is, but if you want tell me your head cannons
Hiiiii, Lena! Ok, ok, ok, I’m gonna explain. Please note that I haven’t been able to read the manga yet so I’m workin’ on super duper loose terms. So, in the most basic form of explanations, BSD is a mafia vs. detectives anime featuring superhumans called Abilities users. These Ability users are named after/based on famous authors, particularly from Japan, although there are some American authors (the Guild) and European authors (mainly Russian and French), and their abilities are based on a work from that author. For example, John Steinbeck’s ability, Grapes of Wrath, allows him to grow grapevines which can be grafted to other trees and people. There are multiple different organizations in the world, but the Port Mafia and Armed Detective Agency are the two major ones at the start of the story--PM acts as the evil, ADA as the good. It’s more complex than that, but that’s the easiest way to explain the whole thing without writing pages and pages.  So, for my little OC, I came up with a character called Mercury Gray, since that’s my writing pseudonym, with the ability “Uriel and Eden’s Gates”. I’d consider her part of the ADA, maybe post-Guild arc since that opens up American Ability users coming to Yokohama. The ability itself is like a watered down version of Light Snow (which projects illusions) and Demon Snow (an armed spirit). It causes a hallucination of the victim’s greatest desire (Eden’s Gates) and then a small spirit manifestation that renders the victim unconscious (Uriel, the Guardian of Eden). Only the victim and the ability user are able to see the hallucination, and Uriel is incapable of killing the victim. The key to Eden’s Gate is that it digs into the victim’s deepest subconscious desires, so what they see might not be something they’re even aware they want. Overall, the character is an optimist who wants to solve problems with as little violence as possible. I also have an idea for what that ability might have become in the Port Mafia, but I like this version best. I know it’s probably a little Mary Sue, but I tried to keep the character balanced and not super OP. I actually wanted to write a series about what each character’s Eden’s Gate would be, so if anyone is interested in my take on that or would like to submit your own ideas for that, please do!

Happy Birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊 To A Very Talented & Outstanding Actress Of Acting
Born On March 20th, 1968
She was born in Conyers, Georgia, the daughter of Marguerite "Dee Dee" (née Catledge), a homemaker, and Charles Edwin Hunter, a part-time sporting goods company representative and farmer with a 250 acre farm. She is the youngest of six children. Her parents encouraged her talent at an early age, and her first acting part was as Helen Keller in a fifth-grade play. She is unable to hear with her left ear due to a childhood case of the mumps. The condition sometimes leads to complications at work, and some movie scenes have to be altered from the script for her to use her right ear. She is irreligious. She began acting at Rockdale County High School in the early 1970s, performing in local productions of Oklahoma, Man of La Mancha, and Fiddler on the Roof. She earned a degree in drama from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and for a while performed in the theater scene there, playing ingenue roles at City Theater, then named the City Players.
She is an American actress. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as Ada McGrath in the 1993 drama film The Piano. She earned three additional Academy Award nominations for Broadcast News (1987), The Firm (1993), and Thirteen (2003). She won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for the television films Roe vs. Wade (1989) and The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom (1993). She also starred in the TNT drama series Saving Grace (2007–2010).
Her other film roles include Raising Arizona (1987), Home for the Holidays (1995), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), The Incredibles (2004), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and The Big Sick (2017), the latter of which earned her a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.
She made her film debut in the 1981 slasher movie The Burning. After moving to Los Angeles in 1982, She appeared in TV movies before being cast in a supporting role in 1984's Swing Shift. That year, she had her first collaboration with the writing-directing-producing team of brothers Ethan Coen and Joel Coen, in Blood Simple, making an uncredited appearance as a voice on an answering-machine recording. More film and television work followed until 1987, when she earned a starring role in the Coens' Raising Arizona and was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Broadcast News, after which She became a critically acclaimed star.
Please Wish This Outstanding Actress Of The South A Very Happy Birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊

I made a comment on a tiktok talking about Atsushi as a main character a little while back and it’s still on my mind. Specifically, the fact that one of the main themes I’ve seen in Bungo Stray Dogs is that of hope vs despair and that one of the reason Atsushi is such a good main character (in my opinion) is because he fits this theme so well
(As an aside, perhaps it’s a bit on the nose, but another prominent theme to me is that of freedom vs restriction. All of the organizations (ADA, Port Mafia, Guild, Decay of Angels and Hunting Dogs) fit into this framework, and I think that is quite interesting)

Please do rant about the misuse of Chuuya if you have the will and time. He used to be my favourite (still is really) but nothing happened with him! It's awful
It's a bsd day isn't, i can sit here and pretend i'm all into jjk now but till the rest of my days ill be ready to foam at the mouth about bsd after i have forgotten who gojo satoru is THATS IMPACT BABY
Anyway: Chuuya Nakahara, what a crime
Context wise, I got into bsd around the time the anime started. I think it was either one of those instances where i watched the first episode and immediately binged the manga or saw the synopsis and binged the manga before watching, one of those two.
Things we knew about Chuuya back then?
Jack
Shit
Dazai's ex (partner)
We had that scene when Dazai gets caught and of course the coveted panel of Dazai and Chuuya as kids, i would post it here but for some reason tumblr decided i get no picture rights but everyone and their dog knows what im talking about.
The thing was Chuuya is so fucking cool. His design? Top notch. His chemistry with Dazai? Top notch. His character even outside that relationship? Top notch.
He had the coolest fucking design and a mysterious relationship with one of fan favorite characters. He was angry and snappy which perfectly bounced off of Dazai's annoying coolness but as soon as he was away from Dazai he tended to show much calmer and kind hearted side. Also he was hot and strong. Instant fan fav.
When i said Kafka's writing problems could be seen even back then i really meant it, even then Chuuya was underutilized. Think about it. Chuuya is a part of soukoku generations. Out of Dazai, Atsushi n Akutagawa, Chuuya was the only one that didn't really get any solo development. He was pretty much something for Dazai to have in his past.
But we still loved him!
That was a wild west for Chuuya fics because the only thing we really knew was that he was Dazai's partner and that Kouyou was his mentor (and ill get to Kouyou). So basically! Anything went! I've read SO MANY fics about guessing at Chuuya's backstory (we can all remember how popular french chuuya was, and also cough cough prostitute chuuya) the fandom was just going wild it was great. I wasn't active as a write back then but one of my fav headcanons was that Chuuya was just some half feral kid Kouyou scooped off the street like 'my son now', there were some really good pieces in all of that.
More love than Kafka ever gave him thats for sure.
Because Chuuya is really really fucking strong. Not like Gojo strong, but he's up there in his own universe you know. So what does that mean? Go to the bus stop young man and sit there. Chuuya basically, god he wasn't a character if he wasn't needed for Dazai stuff. Cannibalisation was Such.A.Waste.
A little of topic but here's what i would have done with cannibalisation: so we took the guild arc to (allegedly tho honestly even this is wonky in canon) build relationships within ada and pm right? Come cannibalisation and ooop they are at each each others throats again but why? It feels like throwing a whole arc in the water. Instead of just sic'ing them at each other again wouldnt it have been more rewarding to like??? keep building??? on those reletionships??? like ada n pm being reluctant to go in another all out war with connections they made during the vs guild war??? Soukoku and shin soukoku should have lead that front! Instead we just kinda resolve to everyone fighting each other
AND CHUUYA GETS BENCHED LIKE NO OTHER
THE BOOK
THE FUCKING BOOK
UGH
Im still so angry. Remember when it happened and we were all like :D!!! WOW COOL!!! AN ULTIMATE BRAIN VS BRAWN SHOWDOWN THIS WILL BE SO AWESOME and then slowly we started to realize that...chuuya and ranpo werent coming back. It was such a fun idea everyone was excited for but it wasnt going to happen. Kafka wasnt transporting them to a new and interesting battle arena, he was escorting them out of the court because he didnt want to worry about them at the moment.
Ranpo comes out
Chuuya doesnt
and for the longest damn time it just feels like kafka completely forgot about him. No sign, no word, chapters pass.
He had one cool apperance which was admittedly really badass and disappears again woops hes a vampire now
i wasnt keeping up with bsd anymore at the vampire point but lemme tell you god i about lost it
HES A VAMPIRE NOW
HES A VAMPIRE NOW
IS HE DEAD WONT SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME IF THAT MEANS HES DEAD????
KAFKA REALLY TOOK AWAY ONE OF THE FAN FAVORITE CHARACTERS, ONE OF THE MOST PROMISING CHARACTERS IN THE SHOW AND JUST FUCKIN TURNED HIM INTO A FYODOR HANDGUN IM LOSING MY MIND
Chuuya backstories
I was excited about Chuuya backstories i was. There were so many cool theories in the fandom i think everyone was eager to find out the canon truth.
He has a god inside of him.
He has a god inside of him.
Why?
Kafka, buddy, pal. Here's an advice from me to you. IF YOU ARE GOING TO PUT SOMETHING AS BIG AS A GOD IN YOUR STORY YOU SHOULD ESTABLISH THAT THOSE EXIST IN YOUR UNIVERSE BEFOREHAND
NOW
Now
I don't think most of the fandom disliked this take as much as i did though at that point i was pretty distant from most of the fandom cuz i really disliked what it became at the time (lets not get into THAT) BUT i blew my fuse on that
There are supernatural elements in bsd in terms of abilities right. Those seem p limited and grounded in their own way, perfectly applicable to the story. The only thing whack is lovecrafts ability but its LOVECRAFT of course hes allowed and even encouraged to be something freaky.
THAT ISNT ENOUGH TO ESTABLISH ACTUAL GODS ACTUALLY EXIST LIKE LOVECRAFT CAME OFF AS A GAG I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST THAT ONE CHARACTER CREATIVE TWIST A LIL MYSTERY IN THE WORLD BUT NO WE ARE STICKING WITH THIS WITH CHUUYA OF ALL PEOPLE HUH OKAY?
But you know what you know what i dont even care thats fine, i can live with jesus christ superstar chuuya thats fine
But then
Mother fucking Rimbaud.
Hey kafka? Why dont you just say you hate writing women huh?
So here's the thing right, heres the thing.
fifteen was about chuuya getting initiated into pm right? Remember how the only thing we knew about that is that dazai was his partner and kouyou was his mentor right? It would be natural to assume those two played a major role in that section then right?
Well Dazai at least gets to :D
KOUYOU GOT SO ROBBED
Like
MY GOD SHES HIS MENTOR
And here is where it really starts showing up for Chuuya, Kafkas tendency to, instead of exploring relationships with present characters, he just throws in new ones. We don't get to explore the relationship between Kouyou and Chuuya. Instead we get some dude literally mostly referred to as Rando-san and HE ends up being the person most responsible (aside from dazai) for getting chuuya into pm and HES the one who chuuya got his hat from which you know implies he was his mentor cuz of the handing of clothes thing and then to top it all off we get that stupid ass scene where chuuya is sitting on his grave talking to him
Kafka
buddy
I get it, i know. Dazai and Oda connection was really good, people adored that. BUT YOU CANT JUST COPY PASTE IT ON ANOTHER CHARACTER AND HOPE FOR THE SAME RESULTS YOU FUCKING HACK
At this point i dont care about bsd anymore. I stopped reading, i listen my friend talk about it but thats p much it
Stormbringer
I havent read stormbringer. I'm not going to read stormbringer. What i know about it is what can be read on the wiki and what i saw passing through my dash.
And im tired.
There is so much Chuuya backstory 2.0 could cover. His reletionship with Kouyou. Akutagawa. Black Lizard. Fuck Ive always wondered since Kouyou also mentored Kyouka did Kyouka have any sort of relationship with Chuuya.
Instead what do we get.
Another
Fucking
Group
Another fucking little group that was never ever mentioned before and that will never ever be mentioned again. Instead of exploring Chuuya's relationship with characters we know and care about, we get handed another batch of fresh out of the oven characters and we get told 'these are chuuyas friends! care about them!' NO??? I DONT???
Like would be SO hyped to explore chuuya in interaction with any of the other characters. I wrote two platonic soukoku stories, another one for Kyouyou and Aku were in plan i want this, i would read this, i would be interested in this.
But what i dont care about is seeing Chuuya bounce off of another random ass set of characters (+Dazai) who dont matter jack shit in the grand scale of things.
I'm just done! I care about Chuuya so much and i want him to be explored and well written but...god i just cant, i cant do it anymore i cant stand this vacuum worldbuilding. Chuuya doesnt seem like he has a relationship with anyone in pm aside from Dazai even tho he seems well beloved and instead of exploring those barren relationships we just get handed p much meaningless ones. That's just not how you build a character rooted firmly in your story. That's how you use a character so you have an excuse of introducing like seven more new ocs you couldnt fit anywhere else. It's exhausting. I don't know maybe stormbringer isnt like that but literally every summary i read about it sounds like that and im not about to go suffer Kafka to confirm the opposite, i'll just hole myself up with Izanyas versions of events thank you very much

@hamliet I love this top! Can I ask what led you to the conclusion that Mori is set up as the final boss of the series?
I might have talked about this before, but I can’t find that post, so perhaps not! Either way, it’s just a theory based on a few factors:
Mori’s worldview is fundamentally incompatible with the ADA’s worldview of saving people. I talked about how conflict between Fukuzawa and Mori over their worldviews is set up here.
Tumblr media
Making a character a p*dophile, which Mori explicitly is (Elise might not be a real person, but Yosano is), is pretty much a way to signify... not good things to most readers. The ironic thing is that BSD doesn’t do pure evil, and we can see in the Beast AU that Mori could have become a far healthier, better person (Elise is an adult in that AU). But beyond coding and speculating about authorial intentions, and going back to what I mentioned above about Fukuzawa and Mori’s worldviews, is the fact that Mori has a particular habit of targeting the most vulnerable, and in particular children. Not just in a creepy sense, but in a violent sense. This is why Mori is such a great character imo--he is repulsive in that part of him, but he’s complex and interesting anyways.
Tumblr media
He does it again and again and again, which we see through Yosano’s backstory, Dazai’s recruitment, and Oda’s orphans, whose location he leaked with the intention of something horrible happening to them (they died). Dazai, too, has done similar things, like killing the Sheep in Fifteen, and Dazai expressly received a charge to protect orphans from Oda. Dazai is doing this with Atsushi and with Akutagawa, but he’s still not quite able to face what he did to Akutagawa. Even though Atsushi and Akutagawa are not technically children, they are Dazai’s mentees, and I would be shocked if Mori doesn’t target one or both of them at some point because there’s a lot of set up for him doing exactly that (and because it’d be a consequence for Dazai having abandoned Akutagawa).
Tumblr media
I also spoke about how Mori is a distinct foil to Dazai in terms of the utilitarian perspective Dazai could have ended up embodying here. BSD is basically Dazai’s redemption arc, and hence it makes sense that Dazai should reject that more explicitly than he currently has at some point.
Structure. A lot of literary stories and also mangas have a chiastic structure. I don’t know that we can claim for sure that BSD does just yet because at most I think we’d be at the center of said chiasm right now, but it has some aspects that hint at this (should this be the center, I’d expect a Fyodor arc after this current one that parallels Cannibalism, then an Agatha Christie arc that parallels the Guild Arc, and then a final arc). Either way, I honestly expect the manga to end where it began: with the ADA vs. the Port Mafia.
Tumblr media
Chuuya. Chuuya’s been set up as a foil for Kunikida not just in that they are Dazai’s long suffering partners, but in that they are both primed to be the leaders of their respective organizations in the future. It doesn’t make a ton of sense to me to introduce the idea of Kunikida taking over the ADA without, well, following through on that at some point (which is why Fukuzawa is one of the very few characters I feel worried for), and Chuuya ending as head of the Port Mafia makes sense as not just a parallel to Kunikida, but as an ending for his arc. As he says in Fifteen, his arc is about learning how to become a good leader, so I’d presume he’d end leading something. I also don’t think Mori is likely to just like... step down given his personality.
But anyways. We’re years away from that if it happens, and I’m excited to see how Asagiri writes him, however it goes! The latest chapter’s revelation reaffirmed my faith in Asagiri as a writer.
