adam and lawrence have a certain codependency in the movie, which is that when one of them panicked, the other one – despite being worried himself – tried to calm the other down first. they switch this role multiple times during the course of the movie. in the beginning, lawrence calms down adam. then, when lawrence panics about his family, adam calms him down. adam jokes when he senses lawrence spiraling, pulling him out again. in the end, after cutting off his own foot, lawrence leaves only after holding and reassuring adam that he'll come back.

they were trying so hard to keep each other sane from the moment they "met" (and they werent just fighting for their own survival unlike many characters in joined games from the sequels) and i genuinely believe that adam died waiting, and that lawrence wouldve came back if he couldve. but adam was never meant to survive even if lawrence had made it out, which is why they made sure of his death instead of letting him bleed out or starve

Chainshipping headcanons (SFW)

Adam fell first, Lawrence fell harder

Adam is clearly the little spoon, and Lawrence the big spoon.

Lawrence was very hesitant about their first kiss. He did a shy kiss, while Adam was hoping for a tongue kiss.

The first time Lawrence visited Adam's apartment, he just asked, "Do you really live there?" but his heart broke at the thought of Adam actually living in this shithole.

So Lawrence brought Adam back to live with him, after his divorce from Alison.

It's good timing, because Adam was having a really hard time living in the place where he'd been kidnapped.

They set up Adam's darkroom in Lawrence's office.

Alison is genuinely happy for them. She loves Lawrence deeply and only wants him to be happy, even if she doesn't have to be part of his life.

She still prefers this to a disastrous marriage.

Diana adores Adam. She sees him as a big brother.

Adam is messy.

It drives Lawrence crazy.

"Adam, stop leaving your plates and glasses lying around!"

Adam and Lawrence complement each other. Adam brings a bit of the unexpected into Lawrence's life, and Lawrence brings a form of stability to Adam.

Lawrence is the kind of gentleman who picks up pastries at the bakery and takes breakfast to bed while Adam sleeps in.

"Good morning love," and Lawrence is there, dressed, coiffed, clean, while Adam is still in his pajamas, hair disheveled and half-awake.

Lawrence paid for Adam's veterinary studies. Because it's never too late.

Adam laughed and said, " What are you? My sugar daddy?"

But he thanked him deeply. And he cried a lot.

Adam takes Lawrence to the Wrath of the Gods concerts. Lawrence hates this kind of music but accepts to please Adam.

Lawrence would do anything to please Adam.

Besides, he hates Scott and doesn't understand how such a nice boy can hang out with someone as rude as Scott.

Adam has an abandonment phobia from the bathroom up.

He's very clingy with Lawrence

To the point where it's almost not healthy.

And Lawrence feels guilty, so guilty, for shooting Adam.

He often avoids looking at the scar from the bullet wound because it makes it too tangible.

Besides, Adam is still traumatized from seeing Lawrence cut off his foot.

But they move on, and go to therapy.

After several years, Adam teases Lawrence about being a one-legged man.

And the little bastard gets a big laugh out of it.

Life isn't always rosy, but they move on.

They're happy.
