so many thoughts about the last couple chapters of ff7 rebirth but one thing i love is that the speech aerith gives in the temple of the ancients about looking to the future seems to heavily draw from one of my favourite lines in the og ff7, where tifa tells cloud that she doesn't think aerith ever intended to die, because aerith talked about the future more than any of them. i always loved that tifa understood this about aerith more than even cloud did and i love that they're doing justice to that

in the last scene, everyone gets something to say except Tifa - the only sound she makes at all are these tearful sobs. she's devastated over losing Aerith

when Nanaki senses Aerith's presence, Tifa looks up for a second, then just... drops her head back onto her arms in the most defeated way

#FFVII Rebirth spoilers #Tifa Lockhart #given it's a recurring thing throughout the game that Aerith confides in Red a lot #honestly the game presents Tifa and Red as Aerith's closest confidants that she spends the most time with #i hope Tifa and Red get to have similar moments to talk about what happened and console each other #especially over Tifa's experience in the Lifestream apparently letting her see the overlapping timelines re: Aerith's death #where we get a case of Schrodinger's Cetra where she is simultaneously both dead and alive #Sephiroth really screwed himself over on that one - an attempt to take Tifa out of the equation #because he knows she is instrumental in breaking his hold over Cloud #has now not only primed her with how that aspect of the Lifestream works - but also given her insight to what's going on on a larger scale

FF7 Rebirth Spoilers - Zack's situation

I'm pretty sure that both Aeriths were killed in Zack and Cloud's timelines but I'm confused about Zack's dead or alive status. Judging on what we saw, I'd say alive?

In Zack's timeline, Marlene says when Aerith wakes up, Sephiroth will kill her. When the trailers launched, I thought Marlene had a vision about the actual incident in the original - aka Aerith in Cloud's timeline praying at the altar. But, now I'm sure she was referring to the comatose Aerith in their timeline.

And while Zack was away, Aerith "woke up" and put on her clothes and then woke the comatose Cloud from the wheelchair for their dream date thing at the end of the world.

She takes him to the church, says her goodbye and gives him the white materia before Sephiroth arrives to kill her.

Zack was outside the church before this but got pushed away but breaks free and ends up in a white space surrounded by fallen petals.

I think this has something to do with what Aerith quoted about "following the flowers" in part one when she's surrounded by whispers and is talking to them.

After Zack/Cloud's joint fight, Sephiroth sends Zack back to his timeline which is being destroyed by the meteor. But then...he just breaks through the floor??

There's a green light when fate is seemingly changed and it's here with Zack and also it lights up Cloud's sword when he stops Sephiroth's blade at the altar.

But after that, Zack wakes up at the church and somehow everything's intact. I think Aerith is now dead in both timelines, but where the hell is Zack at the end? Is he also just dead, or is this a new timeline? It makes sense Aerith can "walk" through the lifestream after death (and not become one in a huge soul soup) because she's a Cetra. But I'm guessing Zack isn't in the lifestream at the end - but is in another timeline???

I don't know.

Thoughts? I don't know what to think about the multiverse stuff.

Not trying to be all um actually 🤓☝️ but the novel Traces of Two Pasts does go a bit more into how Cloud and Tifa actually were best friends when they were younger but Cloud started avoiding her (it's written from Tifa's POV so we don't get a straight answer for why, but it's most likely because he started crushing on her). Also iirc Tifa's friends never actually hated Cloud, he hated them and would purposely avoid hanging out with them even when he got invited to play

(You can have your opinion on Cloud and Tifa's relationship of course, just trying to prevent misinfo from being spread around)

well so heres the problem here is i have no respect for half the compilation for various reasons i shant get into rn

edit: mostly because i think its rather absurd to have to keep up with nearly 30 yrs of extracanonical content that sometimes contradicts the original and other times is just. as a matter of taste. is so completely boring compared to the original. not in a like “but the original game is Sacred and Holy” way but a “i played this game and now they want me to read all these side novels and additional games with way more boring plots so they can make money” way
