Circe’s true aspirations

Circe Beaker is by far my favourite Sims in the franchise. She is a very unique and interesting character, especially for a hardcore stan like me, who likes to over-analyse things. Anyway, the more I thought about it, the more I realised she is not like other fortune Sims. In fact, I don't think she is after money. Not only, I mean. I strongly believe that first and foremost, she strives for independence. All her choices and relationships testify it. Let me explain.

Buckle up, I have a lot to say. At first sight, her aspiration and career choices don't rise questions. Fortune Sims are all about money. They are the ultimate capitalist Sims. They want to live in luxury in lavish homes, surrounded by pricy furnitures. The Beaker house totally reflects that. The prima guide suggests two main way of becoming rich: marring a rich Sims (Dina Caliente style) or being over involved in a career (Circe or Kristen Loste style). Again, according to the prima guide, fortune Sims prefer rewarding career: business, athletic, criminal and medical. Being very neat, the medical career is perfect for Circe. We also know that in Sims 2, a lot of the traits and therefore aspirations can be inherited from parents or grandparents. Circe s father, Xanthos Salamis, is a fortune Sims. His personality tends toward serious, mean and quite active. She inherits a lot from him. So... why do I bother writing all this ?I think there is a darker side of the story. Plus, her character is much more complex that it seems.

Circe has only ONE memory of her father, and it’s his death. He likely was not involved in her life. Her mother, Grainne, taught her only one skill which is walking. So her mother didn't even teach her how to talk? It makes sense: Grainne is a romance Sims, they are known to dislike children and steady family life. Seems like Circe was left to her own devices . She had to learn to fend for herself, I think she grew up with a “you can only count on yourself” mentality. It influenced her behavior and social interactions.

In the Sims, names are never chosen at random. She's called Circe : in Greek mythology, Circe is a beautiful and powerful witch who turns men into pigs. Our Circe was in a relationship with Vindcund. As I already explained, Vidcund is for me a narrow-minded Sims who wants everything to fit in a tidy package (like is bio says). Did he also want his relationship with Circe to fit into a little box? Maybe she needed air? In comparision Loki seems to be a more carefree, open minded individual.

Moreover, in the PSP version, we learn that « she is secretly jealous of her husband's independence ». This is a proof for me that what Circe wants is to be truly free, to owe nothing to anyone. This is why she wants to be rich, and why she's so interested in Loki's patent in the PSP game. Maybe she wants to control the household fund to make sure she doesn't lack anything ? Like, money is power they said, and she doesn't want to be over-powered. I think Newlow played with this fear to lure her. He told her he knew how to be truly free (he was kind of right tbh). They had that in common, maybe that's how they got close.

To me, Circe real aspiration is to be independent. That's why she's so interesting. She wants to owe her success. Maybe there is a little competition between her and Loki but they have a strange chemistry . Why ? They are both equally maniac.

Circe's aspiration could have been Knowledge. She is one of the Sims that bear a hidden Knowledge aspiration token. The developpers ultimatly chose to turn her into a fortune Sims. BUT, it plays a huge role in her character and storyline.There's a total dissonance between Circe's career and her personality. I know I said (or the prima guide said) that the medical career is the perfect fit for neat fortune Sims. BUT CIRCE HAS 0 NICE POINT. Why would she want to save lives??? Even the game description of the career (lvl 6) mention the good nature of medical sims : “An altruistic streak has compelled you to join a Sim neighborhood clinic as a GP. The pay won't be high, but you'll help a lot of less fortunate Simcitizens ». Circe doesn 't care about others. It doesn't bring money on the top of that. This is where Circe's second aspiration comes in: knowledge.

The games suggest that she has some sort of morbid curiosity. I think she enjoys participating in forbidden experiments with Loki (as one of her PSP secrets says). Her leaning towards medical practice is mentionned in her bio: she loves taxidermy. Note it doesn’t say taxidermied animals. It clearly says taxidermy, like, the process. For me, it fits perfectly with her experimenting on Nervous. She want getting rid of moral limits. She's been practicing surgeries at home when she's not even a doctor yet with a career reward for a position she didn't even reach ! She doesn't care about ethics. This is also why she loves Loki, they are unscrupulous and are not compeled to follow the oh so too restrictive ethical laws that she must obey at work.

So, when making my graves I have to admit that I found the Sims4 is missing one BIG aspect of life. Namely religion. As a guy who makes a lot of graves I find that I kinda do want religion in my game. But not any actual religions! No, I want the religions found within the Sims universe! Namely the Jacoban and Peteran religions form the Sims Medieval and the Kine Society from the Sims 2 PSP. Oh and the Door of Life and Death is in here too. Because ... I want it.

Other have ripped a lot of Jacoban and Peteran stuff, but NOBODY has ripped them with correct textures. My items have official textures, correct prices and I've gone as far as to make sure even the environment scores are accurate as well! I went through so many items to find correctly corresponding environment scores, but I finally did it. I really hope there isn't a typo anywhere since I had to manually type out the titles and descriptions... I also like the Kine society form the PSP game. I find them to be a really fun depiction of a cult. It's a shame they aren't in any other games and that I can't rip form the Sims2 DS. As it stands, most of the meshes and textures are too low rez even for me, so for the first time I've heavily modified existing items to mimic items found in the Kine Dairy. It was important to me to rip the holy books from the in-games religions as well, but I've merged the Medieval ones since they share tuning. I mean, what's a religion without a holy book, right? Even if they aren't specified in the game I did my best on all of them. Sims2 PSP Kine Society Banner - A conversion from the Sims 2 PSP it's kind of low rez, but kinda works if you don't zoom in too much. Kine Society Door - This is a remake using a basegame door modified to sort of resemble the door to the Kine Dairy. It uses all the colors the door had before as well as one sampled from the Sims2 game. Kine Society Refrigerator - This is a remake based off the fridge from the refrigerator found in the game. It's based off the fridge from Get to Work, but I made it basegame compatible. It has all the colors that fridge had as well as the red version from the Sims 2. The pink milk cartons are actually converted from the Sims 2 since I enjoy the Tragic Clown's cameo on the side. It's pretty high poly. Kine Society Cow Horns - A conversion for the PSP game. Kine Society Cow Picture - It gets a bit pixelated if you zoom in. I think it mostly works. Kine Society Cow Poster - A VERY pixelated picture, but I think it also kinda works. Beelzebeef Statue - This is the object that inspired the whole set. It's a shame there isn't more Beelzebeef items in the game and I can't rip from Sims2 DS, so this is the best it gets. I think the faceted look work alright since it's a statue after all. Although the carpet is really blurry. Beelzebeef Statue 2 - A version without the blurry carpet, incense, and offering. IMO this works better, but I wanted the full version as an option. Kine Society Cowprint - Wallpaper based on the ones found in the Sims2 PSP. The wood on this is darker than in the game, but whatever. In the end this actually turned out to be decently close to what's in that game. The Bovinomicon - A confident book. I feel like the religions really need a readable book to really work and it was neat to bring this into the Sims 4. Sims3 Door of Life And Death - The full door, robbed of it's supernatural powers. How can I make Grim Reaper stuff and leave this out? I managed to get it and all it's recolors! The footprint only extends to the rood itself, however, so Sims can pass through the statures like they don't even exist. This was actually tricky to get. In the end I just deleted any element that caused an error when the package was opened in TSW using the Sims3 Package Editor until it opened successfully. After that I could easily extract the correct texture colors. Door of Life And Death - Door - This is the door alone, separated from the door proper. I mean ... why not? Door of Life And Death - Mat - The welcome mat is kinda neat all on it's own. Door of Life And Death - Statue - The statue from the door, rotated to face forwards. Sims Medieval 'Watcher's Eye' Archive of the Priest - This desk also has working candles! It's modified to have a flat surface instead of the tilted one. I was surprised to find that it was much taller than an ordinary desk from the Sims 4. 'Watcher's Eye' Archive of the Priest Chair - This is a chair made specifically to work with the Priest desk. It's as high as a stool, so it really can't be used with anything else. Jacoban Fireplace - It can't be used for cooking, despite the pot. Just a fancy old-fashioned fireplace. Jacoban Ceremonial Altar - Also has candles! Stone Loveseat in High Jacoban Style Early Jacoban Temple Pew Proclamation Board - A conversion of the proclamation board with all states - with paper, without paper, torn from the top and from the bottom. Not only is it a lamp, but it's also a master board for the Sims 4 containing the tuning for the parenting bulletin board, City Living's festival board, and Jungle Adventure's adventure board! There are some clipping issues when you post messages to it while there's a paper on there, but it's the best I can do without the messages floating too obviously away form the board itself. It's cloned from a basegame items, so even if you don't have any of those packs, it should still be useful. Jacoban Pulpit - If you have City Living this is a working podium! If you don't this is still a neat candle. I don't really know what happens if your code references a function not found in the game. It contains unused textures you can only see in debug mode. They're kinda small, so it's not perfect for them, however. Someone else made their own conversions, but it seems like it was made a long time ago and didn't have the official textures. Also it seems to have been made before City Living and relies on an old "political" mod. So I feel like this is more necessary than some of the other items here. Jacoban Grand Guiltstone Grand Gilded Qualmboard of the Jacoban Jacobite Triumph Pennant Altar of Peter Humble Peteran Work Bowl Peteran Civic Fountain in Ochre Masonry - A non-working fountain. Hooded Guardian of the Infinite Spill - Another non working fountain. It's actually supposed to be for the Peterans. Peteran Pulpit - Basically the same as the Jacobian Pulpit, it also includes unused textures. Hooded Guardian of Peteran Conjecture - A big 'ol statue Peteran Stone of Remembrance Celestial Wall Totem of the All-Seeing Watcher - Actually ascribed to the Peterans. Peteran Urn - A seemingly unused item I converted while converting everything else. Peteran Watcher Wink - A wall banner Giant Peteran Water Cup Peteran Wood Vow Pall Gilded Gimcrack of the Advocate - A neat little statue in a boxlike structure. Gilded Saint Nook of the Syncresis - A neat little statue in a narrower boxlike structure. Sublime Altar of the Glorious Watcher - Doubles as a candle too. Majestic Altar of the Merciful Watcher - a gigantic alter over two stories high! Fit for a grand cathedral! Prodigal Fountain of the Unsparing Watcher - A non functional fountains. It was part of the set, so I ripped it. Jacoban Gospel - A focused book. Comes in an "Archive" and "Altar" version, but it's the same book with different covers. It was a real pain getting the book to work with the Archive book's texture, but I managed. These books all use the Sims Medieval's icons as thought bubbles! Peteran Gospel - An Energized book. Watcher's Tome - An Inspired book. Pre-Watcher Pagan Relic - Pagans exist too, ya know!

Fanon or Canon: The Questionable Fate of Bella Goth

Sul sul!

When The Sims 2 came out, long term fans eagerly booted up Windows XP and launched the game, immediately discovering the absence of a popular character. Plumbob Post would not be a proper Sims-themed blog if I were not to address the red-dressed elephant in the room. That’s right, this post is dedicated to the one and only Bella Goth.

“Descended from a long line of occultists, mystics and decadents,” Bella Goth, the “elegant and athletic” matriarch of the Goth family, is undoubtedly the most well-known premade sim. She was introduced in The Sims alongside her husband, Mortimer, and her daughter, Cassandra, in a macabre mansion complete with a graveyard of ghosts. Very little information was given about Bella aside from the fact that she “enjoys a variety of activities from golf to miniature golf,” but she and her family quickly became fan favorites.

Subsequent expansion packs added more background to Mrs. Goth. In The Sims: Superstar, there is a poster featuring Bella, Mortimer, their neighbor, Bob Newbie, and a monkey. The description for this poster implies that she and Mortimer were at one time stars of a reality tv show similar to The Real World. The idea of Bella as an actress was later revisited in the console spinoff The Sims Bustin’ Out in which Bella is employed as a horror movie extra in the movie career.

In addition to having a history in acting, Bella is also implied to be of magical descent in The Sims Bustin’ Out, but this is not an isolated incident. The Goth family is featured extensively in promotional materials for The Sims: Makin’ Magic, the seventh and final expansion pack for the original game. In one render, Bella is shown brandishing a wand and enchanting a gnome, while Mortimer somehow magically waters a plant, and Cassandra struggles to hold back a dragon with a leash. As a result of these advertisements and Bella’s ancestry, it has become a common headcanon that she is a witch among fans and writers, such as Skell.

Imagine, or remember, a fan’s surprise upon loading the Goth family in The Sims 2 only to realize that Bella is mysteriously absent. On top of that, there is an additional Goth child, Alexander, and Cassandra is now an adult with a fiance and a job. Examining the memory panel of each family member reveals an interesting truth: Bella Goth was abducted by aliens.

I know, I know. Those of you that don’t play The Sims are probably thinking “Aliens in The Sims? What?!” Well, alien abductions in The Sims have existed since The Sims: Livin’ Large, but they play a much larger role in the second installment in the series. Mortimer and Cassandra both have memories of Bella’s abduction, but the story gets all the more confusing when one reads the neighborhood story in which it is stated that Bella was not at the Goth mansion at the time of her disappearance.

In fact, Bella Goth was last seen “scaling the deck” of Don Lothario’s condo. Who is Don Lothario? Good question. Don Lothario is none other than Cassandra Goth’s fiance, a romance sim with three girlfriends on the side. This raises a number of questions. Why was Bella with Don? Was she having an affair? How does Don relate to her disappearance?

Most of these questions are left without a definite answer in The Sims 2, but there are several details that have spawned many a fan theory. Firstly, Don is involved with a dynamic duo known as the Caliente sisters, Nina and Dina. Interestingly, Dina is in love with Mortimer at the start of the game and was previously married to none other than Michael Bachelor, Bella Goth’s brother.

As a result of her fortune aspiration and her canon want to “marry a rich sim,” many fans characterize her as wanting to get rid of Bella. A simple look at Dina’s family tree adds fuel to this fire; the Calientes’ grandfather was an alien. Thus, fans everywhere assumed that Dina and Nina must have arranged for Bella’s abduction with Don’s help. This paints a pretty grim picture for Cassandra and Mortimer as well as the deceased Michael Bachelor.

Even so, there are many, many more clues as to where exactly Bella Goth is. If the player switches from Pleasantview to Strangetown, they may notice a familiar face in the neighborhood thumbnail. Playing Strangetown for any amount of time may lead the player to come across a very special townie. A townie named Bella Goth.

This Bella wears the same red dress and heels as the Goth matriarch and shares her bio from The Sims, but her facial structure is different, and she retains none of her original memories. She is also much younger than her husband, who is in the elder stage while she is still early in her adult life stage. As a result, fans have varying interpretations of who this lookalike is. Is she the real Bella Goth? Did the aliens create an imperfect clone? Could this Bella be simply a well-dressed imposter?

Maxis canon assumes the Strangetown Bella and the Pleasantview Bella to be the same person as of The Sims 2 for PSP, in which Bella still does not remember her family, but her secret directly references Mortimer. Additionally, EA released an “interview” where Bella Goth answers common fan questions. While this interview is canon, a large portion of fans disregard the revelations, or lack thereof, that it presents.

The interview reiterates that Strangetown and Pleasantview Bella are one and the same yet again, but adds several key details. Firstly, Bella recalls being in a ship surrounded by green men, confirming that she was indeed abducted. Secondly, she elaborates that she was only visiting Don Lothario to welcome him to the neighborhood, and that all she remembers was being on the roof with him and seeing a “flash of light.” There was no affair between her and the green-eyed casanova.

The most interesting reveal of the interview is that Mortimer created the Elixir of Life, an aspiration reward in The Sims 2 that adds three days to the life stage of whichever sim drinks it. Bella seems to think that someone influenced the Caliente sisters to draw Mortimer away from her because she was a distraction to his work. While the latter theory is often dismissed, the idea that dear old Morty invented the Elixir has been fully embraced by most fans.

While the interview confirmed the ideas of fans everywhere, there was a definite backlash to the voice it gave Mrs. Goth. Many players felt that her flippant attitude was out of character, and that many of the reveals were anticlimactic. As a result, most storytellers cherry pick which details they consider canon.

Luckily, the open-ended sandbox that is The Sims 2 leaves the fate of the Goth family in the player’s hands. One person may be content to accept Strangetown Bella as the true Bella, while another may not. Some simmers may have Dina and Mortimer get married and live out their happily ever after. Others may choose to reunite the Goths. I’m certain there are those out there who say “Forget Mortimer!” and marry Dina and Bella. Such is the beauty of The Sims. To quote the marketing tagline: “you decide.”

While a novel could be written on each and every Bella-oriented easter egg in the games, this article focused solely on canon story details in the first two installments and their spinoffs. If there is sufficient interest, there will be a follow up concerning Bella in the most recent games.

ok so let’s start with the least fav premade… either jacob martin or justin cleveland. i ALWAYS forget their names, literally had to look them up right now… they’re so bland!! and neither of them deserves the teen girls from their hoods. jacob gets extra hate points from me because he stands in the way of my ship (jules o’mackey/sandra roth)

so my most fave premade is (obviously) bella goth herself, duh! i love everything about her. her ts1 description. her disappearance in ts2. the fact that she has so many clones (namely stella roth, strangetown bella, lunar lakes bella). her seemingly perfect family (who wouldn’t want to have a cute scientist husband, a bright scientist daughter and a harry potter expy son, right?). and of course, her iconic red dress. she… hcs for her (those are more serious):1. she is bi, although not many ppl know about it, she’s very straight-passing2. she is really curious. her secondary aspiration is knowledge3. she didnt really want the second child and had a serious depressive episode when she got abducted. that’s also why she is so Not Okay in ts2 psp. 4. not really a hc but i really love her ts2 psp incarnation. (i really love ts2 psp in general tbh). psp bella has such a vibe… almost dying in a parking lot, selling her haunted mansion to a stranger, being very ok with kissing said stranger, not being good at keeping secrets. a legend5. she had a kind of strained relationship with cassandra by the time she was abducted. she obviously didn’t approve of don, and cassandra was so not happy about it. actually cassandra had a lot of problems with her mother. almost everyone told her they were very different – bella, a socialite, and cassandra, a shrinking violet. they didn’t understand each other much i think. cassandra has always preferred her truly goth grandmother cornelia.6. her green pendant is a gift from her mother jocasta, who was very superstitious and believed it held some kind of mysterious power. bella herself didn’t but she always wore it, as a memory.7. she is that bitch that has 10000 friends and is super sympathetic. people like her and so do you but you also know that she’s way out of your league, as well as everyone else’s. still, you can’t help but to be charmed.

The Sims 4: StrangerVille, What is it about?

Called StrangerVille, the game pack would focus on unraveling the mysteries behind a new neighborhood — the rural desert town of StrangerVille — and unlike some of the previous game packs, looked to be story-based. The mysterious desert town, combined with a distinct narrative element, made me specifically think of The Sims 2 games — but not the traditional PC games. Instead, StrangerVille reminded me of The Sims 2 for PSP. While The Sims 2 PC games had always been subtle in their storytelling, the PSP game went full-on RPG. Both versions of the Sims 2 contain a rural desert neighborhood, Strangetown — also full of unexplained, bizarre happenings.

One of the most popular simulation games, the Sims 4 has gotten a new DLC that adds a lot of fun and interesting content the game. In the StrangerVille DLC, you have to ” solve the mystery of a desert town that holds a deep, dark secret” while having to deal with strange Sims.

The StrangerVille DLC brings a new area to the game for players to explore. The DLC’s official description reads A Different World – Explore StrangerVille, a rural desert town shrouded in secrecy. Encounter weird weather, creepy townies, dangerous plants, odd collectibles, and more.” If you have already explored the main game this is the perfect DLC for you as it brings a totally new area for you to explore.

In the StrangerVille DLC, you explore an extremely mysterious world in which the Sims act very strange and unmarked and mysterious vans appear out of nowhere.

EA wrote, “Immerse your Sim in unique and mysterious events. Unmarked vans appear in neighborhoods, government agents use secret listening devices, and scanners are key in detecting the unusual.”

“Crack the Code – Have your Sims investigate using their Military training, searching for clues to solve a mystery that lies within the secret lab.”

The best part about all of this is the fact that EA is going to add loads of new cosmetic items for players to use and unravel the mystery.

“Get Sims in the mystery-solving mood by gearing them up in desert-inspired clothing and military fatigues, or prepare them for the end with conspiracy-themed clothes, secret agent attire, and a hazmat suit.”

Right now, you can go online and pick up the Sims 4 StrangerVille DLC for $19.99. Of course, you’ll need the base game as this is a DLC which you can pick up for a very low price from a local game store.

Loki was never evil.

Ok the title may seem bold, but please keep reading ! When TS3 Aurora Skies came in featuring a child version of Loki Beaker, many of us were surprise regarding his personality traits.

In the Sims 2, Loki is known to be this crazy scientist who leads horrible experiments. The bio description of the Beaker family CLEARLY states that he and Circe conduct research on human test subject Nervous, thus his last name. This is confirmed by the PSP version where the couple kidnapped a Strangetown citizen as a new guinea pig. The morally questionable side of Loki's personality is reflected by his points leaning toward grouchy. His name could also be a clue, Loki is the god of mischief in Nordic Mythology after all. We could argue that being grouchy and being mean are two different things, but TS2 personality system is not as in depth as TS3.

Speaking of TS3, two traits could have fit what we previously knew about Loki's behaviour:

1. The description for the Mean trait reads: "Mean Sims love to fight, mostly because they never lose in a brawl, and they take satisfaction with every new enemy made." Well, it could have been a great reference to Loki's name meaning or his disdain towards his future neighbours in Strangetown. In my opinion, the mean trait doesn't really suits him. Yes, he fought with Buzz because, well, everyone did? And his quarrel with the Curious brothers started not because he thought it was fun, but because he was jealous/in love as implied by the screenshots memories. What about the other negative trait?

2.The description of the Evil trait reads: “Evil Sims love the dark, take great delight in the misfortune of others and prefer to lead a life of as far away from goodness as possible”. If we take a look at all the attributes of this trait, we can clearly see that evil sims are cruel. They enjoy others suffering, even as far as inflicting it themselves. I hear you : a perfect trait for mad scientist Loki, who torture his poor subjects right ? Perhaps not ! In TS3 little Loki doesn't have any of this traits. Why ? Maybe something happen while growing up ?

I have my own theory : Loki wasn't evil in TS3 because he is not evil in TS2. I know, I owe you some explanations.

Well, of course he's kind of cruel to an extend and I promise I'm not trying to defend my "problematic fave". I think we often forget something about his personality. He was, and his, since childhood, an ambitious sims. This part of him is, for me, far more important than his cruel side. Hell, maybe even before his genius side! It dictated his life, his career, even his marriage. I think young Loki's traits make perfect sense. He is family-oriented (he's often a 2dn aspiration family Sims in TS2). Above all, Loki is Ambitous and Lucky, and those two traits explain why he grew up into the adult we love (and fear?). Here's my theory. His family oriented trait could indicated that early on he developed an interest in DNA and biology (he will create his own children after all).He wants to succeed in his career. No, he WILL succeed. Not matter what. And guess what? He's also a LUCKY Sims : “Lucky Sims are more likely to get raises at work and to get good results from career events” (simswiki) .On top of all his hard work (he max out a skill), everything always goes his way. He must and CAN do whatever he feels like need to be done. He never went from "sweet child" to "mad scientist". He went from dedicated over-achiever child to successful scientist.

If we take a closer look at TS2 descriptions, they refer to Loki's ambition, not his cruelty. His bio reads: "As soon as he perfects his latest invention, Loki is sure to get the recognition he knows he deserves." In this state of mind, moral boundaries are seen as a barrier. Ultimately, those experiments aren't meant to inflect pain, but to further expand his knowledge and get praise for future discoveries. Like a child cutting an insect out of pure curiosity. He has no regard for others well being because they serve a greater purpose: his scientific research, his ambition. His curiosity and quest for recognition know no limits. He has no doubts about being THE best scientist. And, well, while not have fun while you’re at it? I think Circe may have influenced him a bit. Also, as an ambitious sims herself, she should loves him for it. They really are a perfect match. In the PSP version, Circe dark secret state that she is jealous of her husband "distinction". But I keep that for another essay....Anyway, that further back up this theory about Loki’s need for recognition.

We always depict him as an evil scientist, but I think he is first and foremost an ambitious one.
