i finished catching up to this like 2 minutes ago [EDIT: WROTE THAT THE DAY BEFORE YESTERDAYM NOW ITS 2 DAYS AGO] and i genuinely really liked this. for a manhua its amazing!! the plot is unique and keeps you guessing, the characters are entertaining and NOT cookie cutter cutouts of isekai tropes, theres been some interesting reveals and a lot of people in the comments were hating on ml but personally i found him super fun; hes very morally grey n has definite flaws but thats what makes him a good character to read about !! not to mention the main character herself is great. i hate that my bar for good manhwa/hwa characters has gone down to 'has more than 2 personality traits' but she is leaping over it for sure

i dont read yaoi i dont read bl. i have never ever read it . however the vibes were so strong that i had to go back and check the tags because.. if you read it... you will see. its so strong. it radiates. i have been waiting for aomethinf like this for SO LONG hahah the main character is so diddly darn confused the entire time cus in her past life shes read too much rofan etc and now cant figure out what novel shes trandmigrated into. regular manhwa reader fr,, anyway theres a strong case for second hand embarrassment in this one, especially in the first few chapters or so, but i genuinely really like this just cus its so self aware, it keeps poking fun at all the tropes and its a nice lighthearted read. also theres a decent amount of plot despite it all and OH I ALMOST FORGOT the male lead is an absolute 10 personalitywise i genuinely love him. hes here for drama and thats it its amazing. so yea id say tropey but Well Written super fun 👍👍👍

HIDING THE ARCHDUKE'S HUMILIATING HISTORY

i think this is the first manhwa ive read where the ml pisses himself in fear the first time he meets fl (theyre both children)(hes scared of something else not fl but still). anyway its nothing particularly unique but its pretty fun! its one of those novel isekai where mc reincarnates into a little kid and the structure makes it a sandwich which has been keeping me very invested. this isnt a very good advertisment but its a good way to pass the time i think. heres a nice reaction pic

oh my god??? just binged this whole thign in one go. first of all ots complete, second of all i guess you can say tjis is a character study in manhwa form. there isnt a particular overarching antagomist, its the characters learning to grow and face their own personal issues. but its also a slice of life, and lighthearted family drama, and comedy. its not a rofan this time lol. also the sibling relationships in susu, han are so good !! and theres so many lovely platonic relationships too. i really really enjoyed it.

Hello! If your requests are still open, may i ask for a stanley snyder x reader? (fem, or GN) Where the reader is xeno's sibling? It's ok if not though. Just dont get pressured from the requests :) (also, if i may reccommend a manhwa, I suggest you try to read return of the mount hua sect if you like action and murim (it's rlly good trust me), or omniscient reader's viewpoint if you haven't read it already (my favourite) but if you like romance manhwa's with a medieval setting, either "your majesty please spare me this time" (unlike most romance manhwa's the mc in this one doesn't get over their hatred for the crown prince so quickly and and immediately falls in love with them. she's very conflicted and the emotions she feels are well written and she's not always "girlbossing" her way through. fantasie of a stepmother/stepmothers marchen is also a really good one.

This is a bit different from how I write but hopefully I did it justice. Also, thanks for your manhwa recs, I already finished the novel for ORV (literally my fav) and read the manhwa for Your Majesty Please Spare Me This Time. I read a bit of Stepmother's Marchen and Return of the Mount Hua Sect a while back but haven't caught up with it yet. Definitely down to write something for manhwa!

Summary: In which no one messes with Xeno’s sibling and gets away with it. Or there's tension between siblings and Stanley is just a puppy (or is he?).

Pairing: Stanley Snyder x GN! Reader!

Warnings: Will contain violence and swearing. Spoilers for the characters, but no plot. For anime watchers, don't search up Xeno or Stanley if you don't want to be spoiled!

Jealousy is a mental cancer.

(Y/N) knows it well, especially since they have such an outstanding older brother named Xeno Houston Wingfield.

Unlike their brother, (Y/N) is a troublemaker, a free spirit, and most importantly, a fighter.

Instead of lab experiments and academic competitions, (Y/N) spends their time in the gym and fights street thugs that bullies the weak.

At first, (Y/N) hated their brother, for Xeno always, always cared more about his science experiments more than them, and had the love and attention from everyone.

Also, he always had his best friend Stanley around him to keep him entertained.

Stanley Synder was chill and abnormally attractive, so much so that every time Stanley greeted them, (Y/N) was blinded by his appearance.

So what if he looks good? He was annoying.

No matter how much (Y/N) avoided Stanley, the man would find them some way somehow, and it was frustrating to have a literal man-puppy follow you around!

So (Y/N) ignored both of them out of spite.

But one day, when (Y/N) heard loud curses and the sound of painful grunts from a suspicious alleyway (that they knew gangs and thugs frequent), they rushed in without a thought.

They assumed that the person getting bullied might be the old lady that sold shoes, or the nerdy student at school, or the little boy who saw something he shouldn’t see.

People who are too nice, too vulnerable, and too trusting of their own good.

However, this wasn’t the typical thug that (Y/N) beat up often, they were men dressed in formal suits with bats and batons in their hands.

“What the fuck are you doing?!”

“Who the fuck is this kid?” The smell of cigarettes drifted into the air.

“Get out of here kid, we’re not looking for a fight. It’s this kid our boss has beef with.”

The person they were beating up were also not what (Y/N) was thinking of at all.

They weren't nice, vulnerable, or naive.

So when the person that (Y/N) saw was their brother, slightly beaten up and wet from water, they felt another type of emotion.

“(Y/N)?!”

Rage.

But (Y/N) didn’t know why.

“What are you doing here, Xeno?!” (Y/N) clutched their hands into fists.

“Hey, you know this kid?”

“Yea, I know him damn well.” In the next instant, (Y/N) kicked a metal bat out of a thug’s hands and used it as a weapon to fight.

Panic and curses filled the air as people yelled out profanities. But (Y/N) was used to this environment, this situation of 1 vs too many.

“Hey kid. We don’t have any business with you. Just with that fake little NASA scientist behind you.”

(Jealousy is a mental cancer)

(Y/N) never back down from a fight.

“Xeno, run.”

“What? There’s a zero percentage chance that you will win, and a very low chance that I’ll escape anyway! It’s more logical that I-”

(Ignorance runs in our blood, Xeno doesn't know (Y/N))

“There’s a hidden shortcut.” (Y/N) whispered, “Ran back and then take a sharp left, there’s a narrow walkway but you’ll fit through. Then you’ll find an apartment door - knock on it and tell the uncle there that I sent you.”

“What?! How can I-”

“Don’t you always take the logical path? Then do it. Stop being so emotional. It’s not like you care anyway.”

((Y/N) couldn’t see it, but Xeno immediately frowned and a bitter expression appeared on his face for a solid second before he turned and ran.)

“Catch him!”

That was their cue.

In the middle of the all-out brawl, (Y/N) maneuvered their way around like a slippery little snake, avoiding thugs with parkour and fighting back like a wild animal. They threw punches that sent people flying and kicks that sent people tumbling to the ground.

“I know you, you’re that troublemaker!” (Y/N) looked up with an arrogant smirk, and wiped the blood off the side of their lips.

“Yea, I know.” (Y/N) dodged the swing of a bat, and kicked one of them in the balls.

Unfortunately, someone grabbed (Y/N) from behind.

“I got you now-” But little did they know, (Y/N) is not one to be captured so easily. By leaning backwards and kicking the incoming fighters, it sent both of them back from the inertia, enough for (Y/N) to break out of the hold and kick all of them to the curb.

With so many taken out, it was quiet enough for them to hear sirens in the background.

“Fuck! I’ll fucking kill you and your brother the next time I see you!” Seeing them run with their tails tucked behind their ass was satisfying.

“Ha, what a joke. There won’t be a next time.” It took everything for (Y/N) to not fall over from fatigue and explain everything to the police, then they provided the police with camera footage and recording so the police could hunt them down.

The police insisted on bringing (Y/N) to the hospital due to the various injuries they got on their body, but (Y/N) instead just said they wanted a ride home. With a little bit of convincing, the police eventually listened and did as they said.

“Another person jealous of Xeno huh? Not surprised.”

"Xeno Houston Wingfield was the one that called for help." (Y/N) didn't say anything to that but simply looked outside the window.

When (Y/N) entered the house, they immediately went to their room, disregarding the worries from Xeno, and their parents.

“Fuck.” A string of curses left their lips as they tried to treat themselves with a first aid kit. It stings like hell and it doesn’t help when they’re extremely tired.

“(Y/N), it’s me. Stanley.”

“Go away.” (Y/N) replied with annoyance, they don’t need Xeno’s pity or get blinded right now.

“It’s just me.” (Y/N) watched the door silently.

“If you don’t open the door, I’ll kick it open.” With Stanley's playful tone, it sounded like something he would do out of spite.

“Fucking- alright. Happy?” Exasperated, (Y/N) opened the door and dragged the annoying prick into their room, before slamming it shut, not caring if Xeno was there at all.

“You look like shit.”

“Thanks Sherlock.” Before (Y/N) could sit back on their bed, a hand reached out and grabbed their arm. With a forceful tug, Stanley spun them around.

“What the fuck-”

Sharp, predator eyes are what shut (Y/N) up.

For the first time in a long time, (Y/N) felt…nervous.

Stanley tilted (Y/N)’s chin up to get a better look at their face and the injuries from the fight. A hiss left their lips, but no words dared to come out when being stared down by those watchful eyes.

(Y/N) was both nervous and confused, just what was happening right now? What happened to the literal man-puppy?

But nothing came out of them in this tense atmosphere.

Stanley gently wipes away the streak of blood by (Y/N)’s mouth without saying anything.

(Y/N)’s heart skips a beat as Stanley finally directly looks them dead in the eye.

Stanley’s voice quiet and tense, their anger barely restrained.

“Who did this to you?”

It took a moment for (Y/N) to collect themselves.

“It’s none of your business.” (Y/N) tries to pry the hand away, but Stanley only tightens his hold.

“Yes it is.”

“Yea?” (Y/N) challenged, glaring at the older man, “And what are you gonna do about it huh?”

For a moment, (Y/N) saw an uncharacteristic violent glint in his eyes, bringing shivers done their spine.

“No one can hurt you and get away with it.”

This one is essentially a rip off of those "villianess reincarnates in a dating sim/romance novel" mangas/manhwas.

Y/N was just a regular person who got hit by a bus and given a second chance at life. Surprise, surprise! They got reincarnated into a novel where the skellies are royality and all fight for the affections of an MC. Unfortunately, Y/N got reincarnated as a villain instead of literally anyone else. Yah know what else? The villian dies in the end! Wahoo!

In order to prevent this terrible end, you pull a few strings to make sure you're alive at the end of the day. But hazzah, the main characters are inescapable, and now their affections are geared towards you!

This one is a lot of romcom stuff.

Thoughts on an official YM ENG license

A reader asked what my thoughts are on the chances of YM getting an official english localization?

Personally, while I would LOVE IT TREMENDOUSLY, I think the chances are VERY LOW.

Why? For a few reasons:

1) The author herself, Eclair. 2) Publisher contracts 3) Lack of interest

Based on my very limited interactions with her, I have a suspicion that she may be the sort of author that doesn't want to have their works localized internationally, and want to keep it in South Korea only. A few years ago, on a different Author's twitter, there was a rant of how they wanted to keep their copyright in Korea only, they have no interest in international translations and the headache with localizations, and it received a lot of likes from fellow authors. Again, I have no evidence to back up Eclair-nim's thoughts on an overseas localization. But I do find it unusual, that out of the 4 series she's published so far on Naver/KKP, none have English localizations.

2018 - Your Majesty, Please Spare Me This Time (was pre-planned and written from 2015-2020) (publisher: Gaha) 2020 - Villain Duke's Precious One (publisher: DAONNovels) 2022 - The Gangster Baby of the Duke's Family (publisher: DAONNovels) 2023 - So I Married an Abandoned Crown Prince (publisher: kwbooks)

All four have comic adaptations, produced by DAON Entertainment. YM's novel finished publication in 3/2019, with the epilogue 10/2019 on KKP, and a webtoon was released 10/2020. Duke's precious one finished publication 6/2020, and a manhwa came out quickly in 1/2021. The other two have just started serializing a manhwa this year in 2023 and have not been officially licensed.

It's known that the KKP platform puts a great deal of effort and has its own task force on quickly organizing contracts for its webtoons. As we know, the major ones are tapas (owned by KKP itself), tappytoon (2nd most common), then there's webtoon, manta, lehzin. As DAON ENT is a major publishing company, it works closely with KKP to serialize its stories.

As for Novels, it gets a bit more complicated since it's not as streamlined. YM's novel is published with Gaha, and I don't know anything about their localizing trends. But as YM's webtoon is published on tappy, it's likely that tappy will also have the novel license; just like if Villain Duke gets one, it'll be on tapas first. But there's always exceptions, and it really boils down to who wants the license most.

Maybe it's also because no one is interested in investing in this series for a novel translation? However there's plenty of series with much less views that get localized so not sure.

But in the end, if the bottom line is that the author herself doesn't want her story to be published internationally, then we can't do much on that.

DISCLAIMER: A lot of manga get discontinued often, so I can't guarantee these are all completed!

Oshiete Kudasai Fujishima-san - this is GOOD. Consent is great, the male lead is hot, the sex is actually really good and not the same scene repeated 50 times! But... the female lead... this one comment sums it up:

(Rio being the female lead) But I still recommend it!

2. Hapi Mari - This one is really nice! I like the character dynamics, it is not super explicit but the characters are sketched out pretty well. Slightly dumber female lead, but its not as bad as the previous one!

3. Osananajimi Bartender to Hajimeru Kaikan Lesson - short I think, the art style is not to my liking. But the characters are so nice, and the side characters are sweet! And they have this 'cocktail language' that is very cutely used hehe, good read! And CONSENT!!!

4. Tada no Renai nanka de Kikkonai: Kojirase Joushi to Fetish na Buka (We Can't Do Just Plain Love: She's Got a Fetish, Her Boss Has Low Self-Esteem) - The title is pretty funny lmaoooo and I love this manga the most of them all!! This female lead is TO DIE FOR. The concept of this manga is really fun, so this is honestly such a hidden gem. I highly recommend this.

5. Talk To Me - this is actually a manhwa, so the art style takes some time to get used to. Also a little slow, not much happens each chapter, but its a very cute light-hearted read, smexy smexy though! The 2 couples are written very well, so I am currently enjoying this quite a bit ehehe

As for anime, my recommendation of Kaichou Wa Maid Sama still stands!! It's a good anime, and the manga left me in tears <3 Other than that, here are some of my favs that fit your taste (none of these are erotica like the mangas, but they're still very funny):

I always aim to enjoy the manhwa I find, be it through favourite tropes or recommendations from others. But sometimes it just doesn’t work out. And it felt kind of weird to group these together in the recommendations list so I decided to make a separate one for those that I ended up not quite liking, or even DNF-ed.

Of course, preferences are subjective so what didn’t work out for me might not be the same for someone else. Honestly, sometimes I’ve found books I enjoy through other people’s DNFs. Also, sometimes certain series start out slow and get better later on so this is also for me to keep track of some I might want to go back to in the future. Maybe.

So this is the list of meh to total DNF.

I totally DNF-ed these  Some might get a second attempt if I ever run out of other manhwa (lol) or if someone tells me a spoiler that compels me to pick up the title again. Many are totally not my thing, too boring or I read up on spoilers and I didn’t like where it was going/the ending. Not gonna even take the time to write a whole post for these so I’ll just hide them behind the cut.

A Match made in Mana Crimson Karma Ironically, would have preferred this if they focused more on the FL’s character development and less on the romance, which felt a bit too forced and fast-paced. Wish it had developed better because I don’t mind the dynamic of the main pairing. Dragon Raising Manual I actually quite like the main pairing but didn’t really enjoy where the plot was going.  Kill the Villainess I enjoy the isekaied-person-just-wants-to-unalive-to-escape premise but the actual plot was just really boring so I didn’t want to continue. Little Rabbit and the Big Bad Leopard Marriage and Sword Just got bored. My BFF is a Tyrant in Training It just...got really boring My Boyfriend is a God Read because it’s on Manta. ngl, kinda cringe instead of funny.  My Dear Maid! Another one from Manta. Got so bored and I have no interest in the main couple. From spoilers I’ve seen on Reddit, it got a really rushed ending after being cancelled so yikes. My Hubby is Too Cute! I don’t mind a cliche but it wasn’t interesting enough. Also the mature-brain-in-a-kid’s-body FL started drooling over the ML’s dad abs and like that’s a nope from me dawg.  No More Turning a Blind Eye Love a good revenge-on-the-cheating-husband plot but, again, boring, and kind of dumb The Evil Cinderella needs a Villain [ complete] From what I remember, this was just dumb. And not in an entertaining way. The Fake Lady and her Rabbit Duke The Tyrant Husband has Changed The Tyrant’s Secret Secretary The Villainess Needs her Tyrant Once again, love a good revenge plot. But the 2 leads were crazy, not in a very attractive way, and even with the official translations I didn’t understand wtf they were thinking. Also the faces were just forever =.= Love a good yandere but this was just boring.

Completed Romance Manga/Manhwa/Manhua Recommendations (2)

I had more to recommend, and I couldn't add anymore pictures to the other post, so here's part 2! Let me know what you think! And your suggestions, if you have 'em!

Ghost Wife (135 chapters; Webtoon)

Plot (AL): He’s a dark, uber-powerful god-level demon…who’s also really helpful around the house. Welcome to the unique world of Ghost Wife, where an average high school girl can go to sleep with normal teenage problems, only to wake up and find herself married to an over-protective demon with a creepy smile and an appetite for live cats.

Notes: I actually read this a long time ago now, but I do remember enjoying it a lot. I would wait for the next chapter very eagerly. It's cute, and I think it has a good balance between romance and horror, you know? Though, it's not really horror horror, if you get what I mean. I guess it's more creepy than scary?

Miss Abbott and the Doctor (173 chapters; Webtoon)

Plot (AP): Doctor Andreas Marino loves his quiet life, filled with work and simple amusements, and when the strange Miss Abbott arrives in his town he decides he doesn't like her at all. Unfortunately she's funny and quirky, has an uncommon past, and seems to enjoy getting him in trouble.

Notes: Holy shiz, this one is absolutely. freaking. adorable. I highly recommend. All the characters are interesting and entertaining. Plus, I think the art is really cute. I loved reading about Andreas and Cati and all the shenanigans they get caught up in. If you're looking for something light and sweet and funny, then I swear, this is for you!

Light and Shadow (103 chapters; Lezhin and Tappytoon)

Plot (AP): It’s a rude insult when lowly and headstrong servant Edna comes to marry Duke Eli, instead of the noble daughter he expected. But the ambitious maid hides an even bigger secret behind her obvious ruse – one that could change the kingdom’s very history. Can the two find freedom, redemption – and love – without drawing their swords on each other? Based on the hit novels.

Notes: It's really good! I think the story is amazing and the art is great. Definitely something you should read at least once if you haven't yet!

Daytime Star (Webtoon; 72 + 5 Side Stories)

Plot: A struggling, no-name actress of seven years, Yura Hwang. She barely lands a minor role in a movie that’s bound to be a success. A celebrity’s celebrity, Seunghyeon Kang, keeps running into Yura, who always seems to be shedding tears every time he comes across her. As these two reunite in the new movie, “Time,” will Yura finally seize the moment to make her name known? And will Seunghyeon figure out why he can’t get Yura out of his mind? Only time will tell.

Notes: So, ohmygosh. To be honest, the first thing that caught my attention with this manhwa is the art. I MEAN, HAVE YOU TAKEN A LOOK AT IT? IT'S PERFECTION.

And then I started reading it. And let me tell, I fell in love. I was hooked from the beginning until the very end. Yura is such an amazing female lead! I loved every bit about her. Also, raise all the ramance flags for our boi Seunghyeon, who made me swoon so much it was insane. Yura and Seunghyeon forver, my friends! Three cheers for this couple with their very healthy relationship!

Other than that, all the other characters are super adorable and lovable as well! You can't hate anyone in this! Except, of course, for the shitty ex. Of course, I also have to give my praise to both Jingyeong and Gwangsu, the managers of our two superstars. I loved the relationship each had with Yura and Seunghyeon. It was very fun to read about!

So if you want to read something light, heartwarming, and swoon-worthy with 101% amazing art, this one is for you~

Three Lifetimes (Tapas; 82 Chapters)

Plot: Juju fell in love with Jin Lei, the God of War, at first glance. The problem is, he doesn't seem to know she exists.

Determined to sweep him off his feet, she accompanies him down to the mortal realm as he takes on three trials to attain greater divinity. However, in those three lifetimes that are given to them, will she be able to make him love her back?

Notes: To be honest, I don't know. Lols. HOWEVER, I'm sure I loved it. The drawing of some of the sceneries is pure art, and the characters are absolutely adorable! Story wise…hmm. It was a really short read (for me, I binged it in a day lol). Some parts (for me) felt a bit rushed? But in a way that's okay? Like, it works? I do love the story between Jin Lei and Juju tho. They're really adorable in all three lifetimes, even if the third one made me cry so many tears at 1 AM. HAHAHA. I guess I would have loved it if there were more scenes of the two of them as deities, ya know? It's based on a novel, so I think I'll try reading that! But overall, if you want a cute, romantic read, you can try this one out! The romance is pretty straight forward, so there aren't any love triangle issues and misunderstandings to get annoyed about. Hehe. If you've read this before, please let me know your thoughts!

Marry My Husband (58 Chapters + 10 Side Stories; LINE Webtoon)

Plot: When Jiwon, a 37-year-old cancer patient, walks in on her husband and best friend, she realizes her whole life has been a lie. What’s worse, she dies a tragic death at the hands of her husband. Would things have been different if she had made different choices? Fortunately for Jiwon, she is given the chance to rewrite her fate when she is reincarnated as her younger self. This time, she vows to live a happy life. But first comes revenge. Her plan? To marry off her now former best friend to her lying, cheating husband.

Note: You know, I never get tired of reincarnation or regression stories. Plus points if there is face slapping involved and revenge! Things this manhwa provides! I absolutely loved reading this. I got hooked straight away! I remember eagerly awaiting each newly translated chapter in Webtoon and staying up late just to binge it lol. If it's not obvious yet, I loved the story. Jiwon is a total queen once she regresses, and I absolutely enjoyed reading her plan for her revenge on her so-called best friend. You got to hand it to the author though, for creating such an interesting antagonist with Sumin! Like, damn. Her mind works in interesting ways, and as much as she pissed the hell out of me, it was very fun to read her thought process and reactions. Minhwan is just an asshole. There's not much to say… I liked Ji-Hyuk. Maybe I'm just a sucker for male leads like him. Lol. But he's a total green flag! I enjoyed reading about him and how he did his best to help and support Jiwon. It was also very entertaining to see him try to win her over. And then the twists! Like, damn. To be honest, the twist surprised the hell out of me. It was new, and damn, it made me cry a lot of tears??? HAHAHA I enjoyed reading until the end. Though I have to say that some of the side stories bored me haha. Anyway, I loved the story and the characters, and I am most definitely excited to watch the drama adaptation once it's complete! Highly recommend that you try reading this!

Purple tech people and red clad theater villains are a recurring theme in characters that end up being my favorites

Which I guess explains my need to make Purple to be like anal about his weapons and super knowledgeable about paks while Red's far more unintentionally cruel in general whilst really trying to come off as kind most of the time (where Purple's just purposely cruel with people, the man doesn't care), despite doing horrible thing in the need for attention. It's why he's both such a pushover and yet also a bully. Which feels both a bit like flipping what I usually see with them on it's head but also very aligned with them too

Which is kinda weird

That being said I typically like the overly pathetic theater villains (with at least a touch of mad scientist vibes) the most ei Zim or Jack Spicer, the kind where the narrative never gives them a true win, which my Red doesn't really fall in line with as much. Always just wanna see how these kinda characters would react if they got something they wanted and I guess Red fall more in line with a post preputial state version of that. Red's the Tallest now, sure that wasn't his dream, but now everyone knows his face, most irkens adore him, he's got constant access to pretty much any sort of attention he wants

And I'll be honest I'm very swayed by a character's design in gauging how much I like them. Zim easily could have been my favorite character ever if his design fell more in line with my visual tastes, but it wouldn't be Zim at that point. His design fits him perfectly for IZ ya know? He's definitely still one of my favorites, he's too entertaining and checks too many boxes on whatever subconscious list I got to determine how much I like a character to not be

If you give a character that would normally make me want to tear my hair out an old Disney villain aesthetic or red hair (be it bright fire truck red or a more natural color) I'll at the very least be okay with their presents in a story.

Also it's a down right shame the more characters don't have scars and shit and this could just be from me reading ungodly amounts of subpar manhwa (don't get me wrong here I wouldn't read them if I didn't enjoy them), but 'curing' a curse or magically healing a character of scar/curse marks that was a huge point of insecurity in their character when they finally begin to accept themselves or that someone can actually love them is bullshit. It defeats the point of maybe I can live in my own skin if you decide to immediately tear it off and give them a shiny new unblemish layer. Let them learn to truly accept themselves not just open up to the idea of it then nixing that part of them completely. fkfjhdjgh This applies to lingering disabilities as well. If someone's gonna suddenly regrow a limb or have a magic replacement against all odds in universe dig into that, give me some body horror, some trauma, an adjustment period, little details about how said new limb comes with a new set of daily rituals/maintenance, anything.

Their disability doesn't need to be a conflict or a story point if it's established as simply a part of them, these things don't need to be constantly acknowledged or pointed out (nor do most aspects of a character), but if you're gonna keep picking at it story wise (if that makes any sense, like there is a fine line between shoving something down your throat and have it effect the character often, invisible illnesses are a thing and they're fucking nightmares but would have to be approached in a different way in comparison to something more blatant in terms of showing, different limitations and quirks that might crop up more frequently that the other characters might not be aware of and all that) or bringing it into a conflict fucking COMMIT!

There's something about regrowing a limb that just screams to me there'd be some internal conflict about it, like maybe the character had begun to adjust to not having it and now it's unwieldy leaving the character frustrated at being unable to simply just DO the things they KNOW they're capable of now or the new one doesn't seem to be quite right, missing freckles or birthmarks, thick hairs grow on it that the character could have simply overlooked before but seeds them with suspicion that this limb isn't truly their own. That kinda shit, I never really see it in shit and with how weirdly common the curing trope is, it's a crime. Basically if you're gonna cure something don't just cut the plot threat there.

These are things I will try to implement in my own writing and when I say you I'm not really meaning anyone in particular or trying to get people to write what I want to see. I'm mostly bitching at this point

Since this feels a smidge preachy and I didn't intend to go off on this tangent, let me talk about how much I like Toph. She's just great, my favorite Avatar character behind Zuko! She's got a magic bandaid for her blindness and I don't think there's anything wrong with that cause the avatar writers are brilliant and implemented it nicely. She's rowdy, tough, rough and tumble and over all just a brilliant character. She's not incapable or helpless to the point it's a recurring gag other characters straight up forget she's bilnd. But like she IS still blind, its a part of her. She gets frustrated with people and herself if she or they forget her limits. She can't see the signs they're putting up for Appa nor the painting being done at the end of the series but like she doesn't get stuck on those facts or get miserable cause of it, she just moves on or uses it as an opportunity to break the tension. I love her

Fuck it I’m bored have some queer manga/manhwa recs

Love Tractor (M/M romance. One of the cutest most wholesome things I’ve read in a while. The love interest is so adorable he was my lockscreen for like three months.) 8/10

Umibe no Ètranger/Harukaze no Ètranger (M/M romance. A touch of angst a touch of wholesome. Quite well-rounded. I like that we see the main couple get older and change.) 7/10

Boyish Girlfriend (F/F romance. Literally so cute and funny I’m obsessed with it. The art and story are very simple but it’s so charming.) 8/10

Murcielago (Lesbian MC. Is this good representation? Not in the slightest. Very obvious straight male author. However, it is gory and fun and the MC is hot. Don’t read this. It’s awful. I enjoy it immensely.) 6/10

Man Drowning in a Veil (Het GNC/GNC. Literally the big buff GNC man x big buff GNC woman couple of my dreams. Adorable perfect hilarious. Queer background characters.) 8/10

My Son is Probably Gay (Gen/Queer character. A mom of a middle school boy realizes her oldest son is totally gay. It’s just her learning about him and supporting him however she can. So adorable and so heartwarming. Written by a gay man!) 9/10

My Wife is a Man (M/M romance. It’s not often you see BL written by a straight guy. There is definitely some misrepresentation of gay relationships and maybe even some fetishization (especially of certain background characters) but the thing that keeps me coming back to this story is just how fucking weird the masculine main character is. He calls his male partner his wife but when they talk about having kids he’s like “wow I wonder how I could get pregnant.” King. He is a freak who loves his partner so much. It’s wild it’s wacky it’s definitely not for everyone but I enjoy it.) 7/10

The Bride who was a Boy (Autobiography. This details an MtF woman’s social and medical transition and legal marriage to a cis man. Very informative about trans life in Japan and also just really sweet and entertaining. I learned a lot and had fun doing it. Highly recommend.) 10/10

Until I Meet my Husband (Autobiography. Pretty self-explanatory. Details a gay mans life and relationships until he meets his husband. It was really interesting to see into his mind as he grew up, and I really felt for him.) 8/10

Our Dreams at Dusk (Multiple Queer Characters. This work is just beautiful both in a visual sense and a writing sense. It perfectly captures the importance of community. I love how flawed yet sympathetic the MC is, and every character shines in their own way. I also love that romance is not the focal point. A personal favorite of mine.) 10/10

Blue Flag (Multiple Queer Characters. Ooooooh boy. Ooooooh nelly. I love this manga so much. I don’t want to say much for fear of spoiling it but it’s a slice-of-life romance surrounding four high schoolers and it’s just so good. If you’re big on characters and relationship dynamics you’ll love this. Gonna say this up front tho- reread it. It’s better the second time.) 10/10

My reviews on Manhwas

Alright so, recently I've began to fall into the great Manhwa hell, as if I didn't have enough fandoms.

But I neither have friends to chat about this with, nor a Discord chat where I can fanby about it, so I just decided to throw it in here.

These are both Manhwas I recommend and my opinions on them. If there are any spoilers, They will be striked through and in blue for anyone that wishes to avoid them (if anyone even reads this lol).

1. The Villainess Reverses the Hourglass (악녀는 모래시계를 되돌린다)

Premise: Aria was a terrible person and was sentenced to dead by being beheaded. In her final moments, she discovers her step sister, Mielle, actually manipulated her during her entire life just so she could get Aria killed. She then is beheaded, and wakes up in the past, in her child body. So now, she must work to both survive and get her revenge on her sister.

Lovely story, and my first Manhwa. The art is simply stunning, and all the characters are very flashed out and developed. Aria (MC) is the pettiest person alive and I'm here for that.

Also, I noticed a trend where, even though the manhwa has "Villainess" in the title, the MC is usually a total angel. Well, not here. Aria is egotistical and a total Diva, she has her goals and one of them is her revenge and by all that is sacred she'll get it.

Mielle is a great villain, she has grown a lot in her own pettiness and tactics since she was a child, and I really like that. Also, watching her suffer for being a terrible person is delightful.

The Male Lead (Asher) is also really cool, I like how he's both witty and friendly, and how much he truly admires Aria and her achievements.

The side characters are also pretty good, and they get a lot of focus because of their interactions with the main cast.

Again, The art is S T U N N I N G. Look at this:

All in all, an awesome read, 10/10, I love this a lot.

2. The Monster Duchess And Contract Princess (괴물 공작가의 계약 공녀)

Premise: Leslie's life was terrible, and always centered on her big sister, Eli. After a failed attempt of her family to grant Eli her sister's skills and knowledge, Leslie searches for the feared "Monster Duchess" in an attempt to survive.

Another one with incredible art AND incredible characters. Leslie is an absolute angel, and seeing her grow as a person is awesome.

The gender envy I feel with the Duchess is unbearable, she's utterly perfect. And the entire family is so dotting and loving and sweet, my little grinch heart can't take it.

She's perfection, really.

The plot keeps getting more and more mysterious, and I'm here for it!

I love each of the main characters a lot, and even the villains are well done and fuel your hatred.

Also, Eli Sperado and her Dad can choke on those black flames for all eternity.

Another 10/10, although I must warn anyone that wishes to read this that the translations sometimes are very spotty and messy, so it can be a bit annoying.

3. I'll be the Matriarch in this Life (이번 생은 가주가 되겠습니)

Premise: Firentia was a girl that died in Korea in her past life, and was reborn into an influential family as the illegitimate daughter of the third son. Her life was pretty terrible, with in the end, her family ending up in poverty and disgrace because of her uncles and cousins, while she was exiled from the family. After another accident, she wakes up in her past, now with a goal: Become the Lombardi matriarch and stop the other family heirs from bringing it to ruin.

Awesome art and Awesome plot number 3! This is so good, genuinely. Firentia is such an awesome plotter, and her goals and actions are very well developed.

The Male Lead is my baby and I shall protect him, and the side characters? Utterly stunning.

The twins are the cutest fucking shit, seriously. Like, look at these two?? I'm dead. Although, all the children are very, veeery cute.

I like how Firentia subtly manipulates things around her to get what she wants. It's similar to Aria, but she's much more mature and knowledgeable, and has a much less petty goal.

Guess what? 10/10. Yeah, I know, I'm terrible at grading, sue me.

4. The Twins Siblings' New Life (쌍둥이 남매의 뉴라이프)

Premise: Arien and Arjen were a pair of twins that died in Korea, and were reborn again as twins and as the Emperor's illegitimate children. Now, with only each other to trust, they must do their best to survive.

My current obsession. I really like this one. The art is not on the same level of pure Awesome like the ones before, but it's pretty good nonetheless.

The plot is pretty nice, but I must warn you: DO NOT expect them to act like adults. Honestly, just forget they're meant to be reborn in this world. They're just normal children and that's it. They act like children, and they think like children. Honestly, I think the author just wanted to make this story about them as children and their producer went and said to make them reincarnates because that Isekai shit is popular nowadays (And to justify they having memories of their newborn days). Seriously, just ignore it, the experience reading will be much better.

Other than that, the story develops nicely. The characters are all very good and the plot is very mysterious. I am holding myself back to not spoil anything, aaaaa.

There is also only one another thing that disappoints me: Arien is very clearly the MC. The story is told by her eyes and we only know what Arjen thinks or feels when he says it 9 or by subtext). I really wish it was more balanced, because they're both different people and have different perspectives, and also I really like Arjen.

I have absolutely no idea where this plot is gonna go, and honestly? I like it. It's very rare when I don't know how things are gonna develop because of other stories, so it feels very fresh.

The brothers are freaking awesome. I was so scared they were going to hate the twins and be petty, because of other manhwas that are like that, but they're so loving and sweet?? All hail these idiots. Also, Daddy is the biggest dumbass of all, this poor clueless man.

An 8/10, because of the complaints above. Still a good read, and I really like it, even with it's defects.

4. I'm A Stepmother, But My Daughter Is Just Too Cute! (계모인데 딸이 너무 귀여워)

Premise: A seamstress dies of overwork in Korea, and wakes up in the body of Abigail, the vain Queen, and the evil stepmother to the princess Blanche. Yes, It's like she stepped into the world of Snow White, and she must now do her best to live and.. Dote on Blanche with toys and dresses as much as possible?

Again with the awesome art and nice plot. Why are there so many manga with awesome art?? I'm so envious.

May all hail this crispy, delicious art.

Abigail is a whole mood, and I enjoy how she is inserted into the life of someone who had already lived and had a reputation. Her actions baffle a lot of the characters, as do her motivations, and I'm here for it.

The King has also an amazing backstory that's very tragic and yikes. I enjoy it, really. Not something you see in men's backstories that much.

Also, I'm kinda saddened by the fact the MC and the king are bound to become an actual couple. They would be such good platonic friends stuck in a political marriage. I was robbed, y'all.

Abigail greatest ambition is to get to design a dress for Blanche and have her wear it, and you know what? Good for her! Sometimes, it's good to have an MC that is not plotting against world at large.

Also, her mirror? Verite is simply perfect, I love this guy. I non-jokingly ship him with Abigail more than her with the King.

Blanche is a sweetheart, she deserves to be in my "adopted children" wall.

For now it's more of a Slice of Life than anything? But I also don't know what happens in the novels, so I'm just going to wait.

For the current lack of a grater plot, this gets a 7/10. Still pretty good and entertaining, especially for when you just don't feel like trying to understand deep plots with lots of elements.

5. Beware of the Brothers! (그 오빠들을 조심해!)

Premise: Another one of those "I lived my life and then wake up in the past." Hari was adopted by this family after the death of their only daughter, and although her parents love her, her 3 older siblings very much don't. She lives a miserable life in their hands, and when it's the night before she is to get married and finally escape her brothers, she wakes up in the past, and has to deal with them all over again.

Another nice art one, and the background characters are very nice, as is the MC.

But for me, it has a big problem. And that problem is the main ship. It's Hari with her eldest brother, Eugene. Even though they are not related and yadda yadda yadda, they were raised as such, and thus it bothers me. Also, Eugene is as plain as white bread and just as generic when seen as the Male Lead.

I ship Hari with Johan, even though I know it's not gonna happen, Ugh, the pain..

For me, the main point in this is Hari's relationship with her other siblings and the other background characters. I'm here for that wholesome sibling interaction. Her relationship with Erich, specially, is awesome. I love these two so much

It also kinda lacks a plot? Other than the relationship development and their story as a family, but again, I have no idea how they will develop this.

Also, pet peeve? Why do they keep using Oppa instead of translating it properly as brother? I get honorifics and stuff, but it's so annoying.

I give it a 6/10. Good characters and good relationships outside of the bloody incest thing, and it's a good enough way to pass the time.

Haiz!! Could I ask for a Tokyo revenger character match up?

I'm a 16 year old female who stands at 5 ft. I'm a Sagittarius and INTP-T. I'm pansexual/questioning but I don't have much of a preference.

My personality I'm a sort of ambivert leaning more on introvert side. I'm outgoing when I'm talking with my friends and depending on the day and where I am I can be really social, I guess u can say I know how to fake being social? I can say I'm bold with doing stuff on my own or with friends but not to other people. Like if someone asked me to try and climb a brick wall to the roof because they tossed their shoe on the roof I will (and have) but I can't for the life of me tell someone I like their shirt if ion know them. Under stress I react in 2 ways the first way I'm either really quiet and am scanning in my head or mumble all the ways on what to do about the situation I'm stressed about or the second way is me just stress cursing, which may sound like I'm mad or sumthin cause people have told me when I curse it's very aggressive.

I'm quite temperature sensitive especially during summer as my friends say. One minute I'd complain it's hot and a minute after we turn on the ac I'd complain it's cold, it's a problem I know. I have a low level of germophobia as in I sometimes can't stand to touch certain things like door handles or sit comfortably in the school cafeteria tables or the classroom seats that at one point I started to clean them. I struggle a lot when I type like ALOT that sometimes my words come out like this aonomw which would be someone or other times would be like this pan5h34 (panther) or I'd have trouble typing words like table and have to keep texting it till I get it right or give up. I also forget words exist like cake, or light switch ect. I'm also really competitive and have one sided competition that the other persondoesn't know about.

I'm very optimistically realistic yet also look at the bad side of things. Like I'd be like thinking of the good side of things then I'd think of the bad and it's just be a roller coaster of me loudly mumbling then yelling and rolling on the floor of why I thought of the bad. I also have ALOT of theories that I love to tell to those who I'm close with, I make a new theory every night. I also have all of weird 3 am thoughts but during the day.

Aesthetically I'm all over the place I mostly wear sweats or leggings with a jacket or hoodie because lowkey am insecure bout my body BUT I'm working on it. I usually have my hair down doing whatever it wants but when I want to style it I have it half up and half down with my bangs loosely curled.

My hobbies is mostly just reading books like novels, manhwas, mangas or watching anime. I like to play videogames especially with friends I mostly like to play first shooter games like COD, or horror multiplayer games, or also those tapping games just to pass the time. I also like to sing to music or practice singing and dancing to like kpop songs or I'd try and make choreos sumtime.

Outside of the gang, I see South as being really caring and a softie for the person who had stolen his heart. A complete 180 from canon Terano. This is a personal headcanon and other headcanons are available.

So, back to the match-up. South had met you in a music store while he was searching for more classical records. Considering you were shorter than him, it was surprising that you had caught his eye but you had and now he couldn't take them off you.

It was as you entered the aisle that South occupied that he had decided to introduce himself. You were a little intimidated by the tattoos decorating his face but as he started a conversation about music, you slowly got more comfortable. The entire interaction had resulted in the tall blond getting your number and arranging a hang out for the next day. To say he was excited was an understatement.

Your first date would be a simple cafe trip since he felt a neutral place like that would be the best. After all, there was a minimal amount of background noise so he could ask you about yourself as much as he pleased, but it was also not entirely boring where he would struggle to entertain you when awkward moments arose. The entire hang out had you falling slowly for South and you were quick to agree to a second date.

A relationship with South is one where you feel protected. He hadn't told you he was the leader of a.gang until he felt you could handle the information. You were a little nervous around him at first but this quickly dissolved back to the normal comfortable interactions you were so used to.

South won't ever admit it, but he finds you adorable all the time. Like, he enjoyed the way you would mutter to yourself when you were deep in thought, how your texts could sometimes be full of typos, but he especially loved how you would tell him about all the theories you thought up of about anything. This boy would sit and listen with the biggest smile as he watched the way your eyes lit up as you explained the newest idea you had. His heart would melt and he would find it hard to not gather you up in his arms with how cute you were!

Once this boy finds out about your aversion to touching surfaces because of the germs, he would make sure you were comfortable at all times. Opens the doors for you, places his jacket on a seat so you can sit down, even carrying a pack of antibacterial wipes in his pockets at all times. No-one in Rokuhara Tandai knew about this and he would definitely keep it that way. After all, he is a feared leader. He didn't want to seem weak in front of those that follow him.

No-one can tell me that this boy does not game when he is at home relaxing. First person shooters are his go to as he feels this best relieves his stress. So finding out you also enjoyed playing video games, he would 100% play any game with you. Even bought a second controller so he always had one in his home for you.

It was by accident that South had heard you sing and saw you dance. He had come over to visit and you had lost track of the time. So once he had reached your door and opened it slightly, he had seen you lost in your music. South found the sight breathtaking and had decided to watch from the doorway until you finally noticed him. Would encourage you to continue the 'show' for him, a smirk dancing on his lips.

(i just got regularized by my company) so it’s been 6 months of my adultlife and there’s a lot of expectations, challenges and stress and there’s also a lot of manhwas to recommend so on to the list!

The Spark in Your Eyes

Summary:

- plot = 3.5/5 you know the feeling that you saw this plot/element in a drama/series before but you also wanna know how the author will play the element in her story?? that’s my feeling with this

- i dont feel the ml yet because of his ~personality~ but they are two dorks who obviously feels attracted with each other

- simple plot but would still haunt you with the what ifs especially if you have an experience with an unrequited love or just love in general

- art = 4.5/5 this is the first manhwa i think that the manhwa resemble the novel art

- ml is gel ver of claude according to some but papa claude is superior ok

- plot = 4/5 simple but i still want to read this because of various reasons

- art = 4.5/5 i love the mc 

- i love the mc bcause shes a strong independent woman amen

- fictional story that happens a lot in real life (the amount of ppl who disagrees with what she does to her body offends me)

- friends are true and raw in every sense of the word

- all characters are drawn nicelyyy

-unpopular opinion, i dont like the ml. he has redeeming qualities but his intention and all is shitty so it’s a no for me unless he changes his ways

- i know that there’s male leads that has his tendencies (kind of)  aka reasons why i dont like him but i guess the reason why i feel strongly about this is because of where the story took place. the story is in a normal world, not isekai, not some story with magic but a normal place it probably doesnt make sense but that’s my take which looks like a rant now

Tropes

YM is a very loved series for me.

Usually I read manhwa to pass the time - I love the genre “Otome Isekai” - meaning “transported to a different world”, but also includes “regression in time” series. A lot of these series are self-fulfillment series, with the point of easy-to-read, mindless entertainment.

I affectionately call these series “trash”. I consume these series like a vaccuum cleaner - gives me so much endorphins. Unfortunately, many times, when i finish a series, I put in in a mental bin, and am done for it for good. 

In any case, I love YM because after reading so many korean manhwa, I realized there’s a lot of tropes that i tolerate, but get annoyed at when they show up. They don’t ruin a series for me, but it’s just an annoyance most of the time.

YM doesn’t have the tropes of:

 ML instantly falls in love with her at first sight -->  if anything, he starts getting interested in her after 2 years of knowing her

 ML falls in love because the FL does something incredibly average, but he considers her “interesting”. --> Rupert notices her at first, because she’s so incredibly suspicious and he has no idea how to read her, and she never does things he expects

ML falls in love because FL is a weak, dainty person who triggers his macho and needs to protect her --> Rupert is super annoyed that Lari is so weak, yet she’s so reckless. He develops a way for her to protect herself, because he knows he can’t be there to protect her all the time

Possessive or Aggressive, macho ML who forces his feelings on the FL --> You bet, when Rupert realizes his feelings he’s super thirsty for her, but he keeps it professional and deeply respects her boundaries

Overbearing lover who overly protects the FL --> Rupert learns to give Lari the autonomy she wants

Unbalanced relationship where either the FL or ML is either a complete omnipotent badass, and the other is a trophy wife/husband; Simps for the FL --> RupeLali have a mutual, respectful relationship. There’s no power imbalance

Unbalanced relationship --> Rupert is of course, the crown prince, and Lari starts off as his maid, but is still a noble. Once he’s aware of his feelings, he struggles with how he wants to define their relationship. He doesn’t like it when she acts like a lowly maid – he wants her to be able to speak freely to him like equals. Hard to do when she’s a very polite and respectful person. 

Blank slate FL (self-insert MC character) --> Lari is feisty. She has her own personality. She argues, she gets offended. She has her own wants and needs. In the first timeline, she was the ideal ‘dainty, perfect lady’ - basically a doll. She vows to never be ignorant again. 

FL mothering the ML --> Although Lari does offer Rupert comfort, reassurance, hugs, and warmth, it’s never in a motherly way. It’s more of how a friend would offer a shoulder for the other to cry on type of thing. ML never thought of her as a mother-figure anyways, because he has his own separate mommy issues he deals with. 

Misunderstandings for the sake of drama, drama for the sake of drama --> plenty of misunderstandings in this series, but in context of the secrets that ML and FL hide from each other, these misunderstandings just make sense and are unavoidable. There’s no cheap misunderstandings for shock value. The misunderstandings here are extremely bittersweet, painful even. 

The reincarnated/regressed FL knows everything – It’s refreshing that Lari knows nothing, and is not limited by “I don’t want to change the story” like other series. She’s trying to change her fate, and once the world changed, she’s so scared because she can’t predict what will happen anymore

bitchy female rival / 2nd main lead - RupeLali is the only couple. Either they end up together, or forever alone. The series just focuses on their slow, developing romance

I just met you, but i’ll die for you - Definitely not in vol 1-2. if anything, both RupeLali hate each other and would rather the other be dead, so their lives could be easier. 

What I like

Communication! –Rupelali do their best to talk things out throughout the series to better understand each other. There’s no random dramatic, cheap interruptions – these two sit down and have a conversation, but because of various misunderstandings that couldn’t be prevented, they can’t fully trust in each other.. yet

Mutual Respect for each other 

Self awareness – Lari knows how cowardly and hypocritical she is, and Rupert knows how lacking he is. Both try to hid their weaknesses, but both learn to overcome it.

Dynamic characters with personal growth – these characters are not the same in Vol 1 and Vol 6. They’ve grown and matured.

Natural romance - The series starts when the FL is 12 --> 18ish. 6 years pass, about 1 year per volume. Plenty of time for the two to get to know each other. The two don’t fall in love with each other because of PLOT or CONTRACT RELATIONSHIP demands them to in the first volume; they fall in love over time after seeing all their good and bad sides, learning to trust and believe in each other. 

Enemies to lovers

The Best Transmigration and Isekai Mangas/Manhwas/Manhuas I’m Reading Right Now

Does anyone care about this list? Probably not, but I’m making it even if it’s only for my reference. So here they are, in no particular order.

* English Title: I’m a Villainous Daughter, so I’m going to keep the Last Boss * Japanese Title: Akuyaku Reijou nanode Last Boss wo Kattemimashita * Mangaka: Nagase Sarasa (story), Anko Yuzu (art) * Summary: “Avoid the BAD END! That's the goal of the villainess in this plot-twisting story!! She has been reborn into the world of an otome game as the villainess, Irene. Using her memories of her former life, she recognizes flags indicating she's en-route to the bad end, so she makes a plan to conquer the last boss (the evil king Claude), make him her lover, and see if she can open up a new route!” (MyAnimeList) * Why I Like This One: Irene is a very fun character! I love her sheer determination in everything she does. Her love interest (Claude) is nothing special imo - classic misunderstood character - but his relationship with Irene is pretty sweet. There are some interesting twists in the plot, too!

* Title: Miss Not-So Sidekick * Creator: Ellianyang * Summary: “Hyejung loved to read to escape her daily stress. But that’s before she woke up inside the bizarre world of her favorite novel! Instead of the main heroine who courts three eligible men, she is now Latte Ectrie – a minor villain that everyone hates?! One way or another, it’s a chance to live out her most beloved storyline, with popcorn in hand to watch all the drama! Taking charge of the narrative takes on a whole new meaning!” (1stKissManga) * Why I Like This One: Latte isn’t actually interested in romance! She would much rather watch how the narrative plays out than take an active role in it. Therefore, she decides to befriend the protagonist. However, just by virtue of being herself, Latte seems to have thrown the narrative off-course! (Not that she realizes that it’s her fault.) The developing relationships are fun to watch. However, this is very much a slow burn. Another fun thing about this manhwa is how Ellianyang throws in all sorts of references to other works such as Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and Detective Conan!

* English Title: Of Course, I’ll Claim Palimony! * Japanese Title: Mochiron, Isharyou Seikyuu Itashimasu! * Mangaka: Soy (story), Mutou Tamura (story) * Summary: “"I'll annul our engagement!" my fiancé suddenly declared?! Apparently he's in love with the recently transferred count's daughter and is planning on making me the villain in order to annul the engagement. Although I have no lingering attachments about the engagement, I do have to claim a hefty consolation fee, don't I?” (MyAnimeList) * Why I Like This One: “Of Course, I’ll Claim Palimony!” does something very fun in that the otome novel that is being referenced exists within the story. The protagonists are very aware of this and the main heroine is most definitely willing to work within and with the narrative to turn things to her advantage.

* English Title: I Reincarnated into an Otome Game as a Villainess With Only Destruction Flags... * Japanese Title: Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta... * Mangaka: Yamaguchi Satoru (story), Hidaka Nami (Art) * Summary: “ Katarina Claes is the eight-year-old daughter of a duke. One day, she hits her head and recovers the memories of her past life, and she comes a horrifying realization—she is in a world similar to that of an otome game she once played, and she is the main villain! To make matters worse, in every possible conclusion, whether exile or death, she is met with a terrible end. Using her knowledge of how the game unfolds, Katarina must now do whatever it takes to change her fate. Whether she must cultivate  her skills as a farmer or befriend every character that comes her way, nothing is ever too much for her to handle. Katarina is a stubborn yet naive character. She is doing all she can to change the narrative, but she is always surprised by the results! Still, I like that the creators aren’t shying away from making lovely female characters besides Katarina. There were also some twists that I really wasn’t expecting from a manga like this! An anime adaptation is coming soon.

* English Title: Endo and Kobayashi’s Live Commentary on the Villainess! * Japanese Title: Tsundere Akuyaku Reijou Liselotte to Jikkyou no Endo-kun to Kaisetsu no Kobayashi-san * Mangaka: Enoshima Suzu, Sakakiri * Summary: “She’s always putting on that grumpy face even though she’s not actually that upset! Oh, why can’t she just be honest with herself…!? She is a tsundere, after all? When her embarrassment levels exceed a certain limit, she will explode into anger. However, the point that she’s suppressing under the surface is that she wouldn’t mind that sort of thing if it were in a less public place? As Endo-kun passionately reacts to the antics of Lady Liselotte, the villainess of an otome game, Kobayashi-san provides a painstaking breakdown of her tsundere behaviour. Suddenly, one person could hear their voices; Liselotte’s fiancée, Prince Siegward. That is where this story begins.” (MangaGo) * Why I Like This One: The characters within the narrative, Liselotte and Siegward, actually interest me way less than Endo and Kobayashi. I can’t wait to see how they handle this sudden change in their lives! And it seems that there is someone behind this magic game but the game wasn’t their intention? I’m curious.

* English Title: The Death Mage That Doesn’t Want a Fourth Time * Japanese Title: Yondome wa Iya na Shizokusei Majutsushi * Mangaka: Densuke (story), Kojima Takehiro (Art) * Summary: “Amamiya Hiroto is unlucky. His life consisted of misfortune after misfortune, culminating in an unlucky death during an incident on a school boat trip, trying to save a girl he barely knew. After death, he met a god of reincarnation who requested that the hundred or so dead passengers—one of them being the girl he tried in vain to save—be reincarnated into another world. This manga is certainly proving that isekai isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Honestly, the real thing that keeps drawing me back is the found family dynamic. I could do without all the fanservice though...

* Title: Cheating Men Must Die * Creator: The King * Summary: “One moment oppressing scum yields a moment of satisfaction. Continuously oppressing scum yields continuous satisfaction. Our female main lead, Su Lüxia is bound to the Female Lead Counterattack System and transmigrates to several small worlds. Using elaborate means, she beats up countless cheating bastards and bitches. Su Lüxia: “Only a cheating bastard's tears of remorse, and the pained moans of a bitch unable to get what she wants bring me solace.” System: “Has my host tapped into her humanity today? Nope.”” (Manga Rock) * Why I Like This One: This manhua is just a long ride of schadenfreude. The story goes in arcs, and there is no doubt that Su Lüxia is going to trample those cheaters, but how she does it is always a surprise! The art is beautiful and the story wildly entertaining. Readers beware, however, as this manhua features themes such as sexual assault, suicide, and abuse.

* English Title: Though I May Be a Villainess, I’ll Show You I Can Obtain Happiness! * Japanese Title: Akuyaku Reijou Desuga, Shiawase ni Natte Mesemasu wa! * Mangakas: Hoshino Osome, Nekomata Doremi, Sorakura SHIJIKI, Yuuki Satoru, Kuroe Yui, Reiga Utsuhou, Yamashiro Umemayuge, Mafuyubi, Oshitsuji Ei, Mizuno Saaya * Summary: "Annuled Engagements, Take That’s, Condemnation Events, Doting, Royals, Reincarnated Heroines, Banishment Endings…it’s fully loaded with all the charms of Villainess’!! A comicalization of 5 popular villainess stories from Shousetsuka ni Narou!! An anthology of 5 oneshots with happy endings!!” (IsekaiScan) * Why I Like This One: This is an anthology and all the stories are very different. My personal favorites are “The Tale of the Noble Girl who will go to a Monastery after her Engagement Annulment,” “Shall We Walk Hand in Hand Down the Flowery Path of Evil?” and “The Villainess Trifles with the Second Prince’s First Love.”

* Title: IRIS - Lady with a Smartphone * Creators: Soo-Wan Yoo (author), Hye-Yi Yoon (artist) * Summary: “ The husband was in love with her cousin and the family was taken away by cigar. The moment I fell into despair and to end my life; the memory of my past life came to my mind.The life of a white-haired worker in Seoul, returning to the past, she decided. “I will not be abandoned by them again. Now I will forsake them!”Ian stare full gazed at Iris’ eyes, “Do you remember what I said the other day? Are you asking for a different fee?”“Yes. The smartphone hasn’t actually played much of a role at this point, but the importance of it’s existence in Iris’ world is slowly being revealed. Do you like Manhwa (Korean comic) characters?

When I was young I really liked them. I don’t think there were a lot of big chances for me to hear about them.

Then what about the character on your t-shirt?

I’m the type of person that likes to wear pattern or character t-shirts casually. But when I wore this today, I think it suits me even better than I expected.

The character on the clothes you’re wearing today, Felix, means happiness in Latin. What moment are you most happy these days?

I’m the happiest when I’m on stage. Or when I’m working on an album and preparing to be on stage? And when I suddenly plan something and think I’m doing well for something I prepared, I’m happy then too.

There’s a Ravi song that talks about happiness, ‘Live’. The message you want to give with your music seems well defined here.

I want people to be able to grasp my intentions for making music, but I also hope that people can interpret it freely. When someone thinks about my songs, it’s fun to watch the reactions of that’s right and that’s not it. There are times where I’m like ‘it’s exactly that!’, but on the other hand, there are also times where I think ‘you can think about it like that too.’

Then what message does your new album <Limitless> have?

I feel that there are a lot of people who will try and lock someone inside the mold they made for themselves. I have confidence, but there are other people who make limits and a mold for me and try to lock me inside that. I don’t think there are limits for anyone. It’s a message I’m sending to people so that they don’t put limits on themselves, and a message I’m sending to the people who lock other people inside that mold.

Just this morning the new album’s track list was released.

This album is being announced in two parts. While the texture is similar, they’re a little different. There are five, six songs included respectively, and <Limitless Part 1>  is a little more exciting, and has strong music with a hip hop color.

You said you brought Coldbay and Xydo to GROOVL1N by directly DMing them. How did you end up together with Chillin Homie?

Coldbay and Xydo are rookie artists, and I thought it would be good if there was a friend that could fulfill a more intermediate role. At that time, I got a recommendation from the producer GXXD (Girlnexxtdoor), and so I immediately called him there and met him, and we were like-minded, so he ended up joining.

You’re the head of GROOVL1N, so isn’t a heavy weight on your shoulders?

I can definitely feel a sense of responsibility. I feel a sense of responsibility to the people who help me during my promotions, but this time it’s on a different level. There’s the people I gather, you know. There’s this responsibility that I have to do better, that it has to turn out better. There are times where I feel pressured too.

Is it the sense of responsibility that makes you move? You really filled up one entire year. You had nearly 10 albums come out and your face lit up a lot of entertainment programs as well.

I want the company to have more influence, and until I can get to that place, I’m going to show the most. TV programs are fun of course, but I also want to let people know about me and GROOVL1N. And I want to reach out even closer to my fans and my family.

Always in interviews, you say that it’s selfishness that’s your driving force to move. Is that still true?

At first, it was my personal selfishness, but now it’s a little different. Now, I want to contribute to the culture that I like and love. Dance, photography, design, etc., I’m planning a project called the ‘GROOVL1N Mob’ to gather artists of various fields. I hope that the GROOVL1N Mob culture and scene can have a good impact. Simply put, this is a good start, now I want to spread good things.

Don’t you want to rest a bit?

Umm, I want to rest, but when I think about resting, I don’t really want to rest like that (laughs). Already, resting has become unfamiliar.  Because I’m always moving, that is even more awkward. Even now, I have my new album release ahead of me, but I’m already preparing my next album.

There was a funny fan expression about Ravi who goes without any rest. “Is Kim Ravi three people, Kim, Ra, and Vi?” Even if you had three bodies, it seems like it wouldn’t be enough.

Waa, awesome. There was that sort of reaction? But actually, I want it to look like that. To make people think ‘How can he pull all these things off?’ Keep releasing music and at the same time showing my face on TV. If people become curious about me or start to like me, they’ll have more of an interest in GROOVL1N. If the good artists that are with me are to shine more, I have to shine. I have to work harder.

For <1 Night, 2 Days>, you have been set as a fixed member.

Since I was a child, it was a program that I watched and grew up with. It’s amazing that I became a member of the program. It’s really exciting.

Now for all of your songs you’ve traveled to all corners of the world. Is there a place you want to especially go to?

Actually, there’s more places and food I don’t know. I’m the type of person that only goes to places I’ve been and only eats what I’ve eaten before. Haha. If it’s a place with no bugs and good air, then anywhere is good. I’m scared of bugs. They have so many legs...In places with good air, I want to breathe without any irritation or asthma and breathe healthily.

In <1 Night, 2 Days>, there are individually made distinct characters. If you were the producer, what sort of character would you make Ravi into?

I think I would just make it comfortably. I’m not really the type of person that makes myself someone like that. I’m just the type to naturally enjoy the environment and my relationships with people.

Besides work, what’s something that you’re interested in these days?

I’m learning martial arts tumbling. I was wondering about what I could do to show more of myself on stage, so I ended up learning it.

But doesn’t that eventually end up being work?

I guess so (laughs). These days I don’t have a hobby, really. I can’t even see my dog a lot.

It’s going to be Christmas soon, what are you going to do?

On Christmas, there is a GROOVL1N show in Busan. In the new year, we’re doing a party in Daegu.

Have you imagined what you might be like in 2020?

In 2020, I think I’ll end up being busy doing stuff for myself and because of other people. Get a lot of results from albums or whatever work I plan. I hope there are more places like shows, advertisements, TV programs or wherever where people can see me and GROOVL1N. I want to fill up 2020.

This year is Felix’s 100th anniversary. If you live to be 100, what sort of image will you have?

If I’m here after 100 years, I’d want to still be on stage? I hope to be able to stand on stage with an okay condition and have an image that contributes and has a good influence on this culture. Not just me, but it’s the same for all the GROOVL1N friends. I want there to be more people who are happy because of us.

How was the Felix the Cat shooting today?

C: It was the first time I’ve done shooting with <Dazed>. It was fun. Before we came to the filming site, I worried a lot about whether I would match the concept well, but I did it enjoyably.

It looks like you guys all have good chemistry together.

X: Yes, all our personalities are different, but I think we fuse well. We have a lot of consideration for each other, and even though we’re young, we’re all mature. Cold Bay, despite his outward appearance is very warm, and Ravi is reliable and always works really hard. He always works without rest, and wants to show us a good image. As you know, he’s also a boss. So for us too, it’s an environment where we can follow suit and work hard.

Chillin Homie, you heavily participated in <Show Me the Money 8> and joined the GROOVL1N label in September.

H: It wasn’t a big participation, but even so I’ve worked harder than last year. I wanted to show a change from the image I show or my rap style, so I thought the most suitable place for me would be GROOVL1N. I joined GROOVL1N without any concerns.

Is there a special meaning to the label name, GROOVL1N?

C: It’s a combination of the words ‘groove’ and ‘goblin.’ As you know, the Eastern symbol for goblin is 도깨비 (Dokkaebi). The meaning it carries is ‘the cool group of the East.’ Our logo too is the representation of goblin horns.

In October, you released the digital single <Spotlight>. The lyrics are about your own story, correct?

X: Yeah. that’s right. It’s my story, but it’s also a song I want people who share the same conflicts and worries with me to hear. There were times that seemed to be endlessly difficult and that even if I kept trying, I couldn’t see in front of me. After I joined GROOVL1N, good things started happening. Of course, there is some luck too. There is the meaning that someday I’ll go towards my dreams and make positive things happen.

Cold Bay, you are an engineering student at Korea University. How did you end up getting Ravi’s offer?

C: I’m in the department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Korea University. I participated in the Yonsei cypher diss track ‘Killitkomori’ at the Korea - Yonsei sports competition,* and it became something that people were talking about. At that time, I got a DM from Ravi and we communicated and I featured for him, and now I’m a member of GROOVL1N.

*T/N: Korea and Yonsei University have a famous rivalry, so every year they  have a big competition against each other. It’s a very well known event in Korea.

What are your plans going forward?

H: I want to show my various colors. Because of the image I showed on <Show Me the Money 8>, people know me as a Boom Bap* rapper, but that’s only one part of me. Going forward, the songs that will come out will definitely be good. You can anticipate it, because I’ll do well.

*T/N: Boom Bap refers to a type of rap genre that has drum sounds that are similar to the words ‘boom’ and ‘bap.’

C: Actually, my album came out yesterday. It seems like I’ve only been working towards now. For now, I’m going to take my time, and find some time just for me.

X: I’m preparing for my EP that will come out in January. And please listen a lot to the group song that will come out in December.

The last year of the 2010s, 2019, will be over in a month. How was 2019?

H: If I look back from when I first started rap to now, I didn’t have confidence. I’m thankful that people are able to know my name from such a short time. I think I'm still adjusting to that. I don’t think I’m a perfect artist yet. Right now I’m just adjusting to the process of slowly becoming complete. This year, I got settled with GROOVL1N, and overall 2019 was good.

C: I’m going to school and I entered a company, in 2019 my life changed a lot. It was stressful, but more than that, it was a year where I got a lot of good energy.

X: The beginning of this year was hard. I couldn’t see hope, and I was very worried that I would have to keep going through this. As one month and one month passed, there were a lot of good changes, and those changes keep continuing on. I only cared about speed, and I think this year was a time where I found my direction. I thoughtlessly felt this pressure that I had to do well and I senselessly only looked forward and ran, but now I found my direction, and now I have a view of where I can go.

Felix means ‘happiness’ and ‘good fortune’ in Latin. What is happiness and good fortune to GROOVL1N?

H: I like to drink with the guys. It’s not anything special, but to me that’s the recent greatest source of happiness (laughs). My colleagues in the company are older than me. When I think about being the youngest, it’s nice that I can lean on the guys who are older than me.

C: Umm, GROOVL1N’s happiness. It’s happy to think that, as much as all of our thoughts, people will get interested in us and approach us. We’re a very new company. This is the first happiness that we all think about and hope for. Also personally, the greatest happiness for me is doing things that are fun and I'm confident in.

X: Talking often with my usual friends. I think right now I have to be happy. I’m the type of person that pursues myself for my happiness in the far future. Today’s filming too was happy.

What will GROOVL1N be like in 2020?

X: GROOVL1N has to have an impact in 2020. As much as we can make an impact, perfectly. Until now, we’ve been warming up, 2020 is when we will have to run.
