Hobie Brown x Artist! Reader (GN!)

Disclaimer: I am not glamourising the 70’s, however punk + politics were at its most popular back then, and those are relevant to Hobie’s character! You can imagine any reality you’d like, this is mainly for aesthetics :)

Hobie and Artist! Reader who’ve been so close, but so far. The art, music, and punk communities are bonded, but you’ve somehow never met each other.

Artist! Reader who meets Hobie at a protest. You’re there to support and capture the scenes of those fighting, and you immediately recognise him from his modelling days – his face previously in a niche fashion magazine.

Hobie and Artist! Reader who barely realise they’re spending time together, all because Hobie is so chill — “Me and the mandem [gang] are going to the pub after, you coming?” Turns into “There’s a nice spot by the canal, you know? You get lots of people there. Might be nice for your drawings, init?”

Hobie who’s in love with his partners self expression. The first time he sees your studio he spends all night asking you about each and every piece; your inspiration, your process - all of it.

Hobie and Artist! Reader who take Polaroids together – cute, funny, scandalous, candid — they’re hung and plastered all around your studio, and one day they’ll be published as an album.

Hobie and Artist! Reader who depict each-other – paint, charcoal, clay, all of it. He cares in the power of art, and even if he isn’t good at it, it’s a way of bonding with you.

Hobie! Who gets you to doodle on him. If it’s on his skin, he’s getting it as a tattoo. If it’s on his jacket, he’s wearing it everywhere, no matter how small or ‘out of place’ it looks. “Yeah, my ting did that. They’re talented, init?”

Hobie! Who uses your studio as a second home, always leaving his guitars or jackets somewhere on your easels.

Hobie and Artist!Reader who travel together, for his band or to support political causes.

Hobie who has a bad habit of using your tools as makeshift drumming sticks.

Hobie and Artist!Reader who spends most of their moments alone in their studio, or Hobie’s canal boat. He always prefers your studio because it’s bigger, but the right size to still feel cozy. You stay up and talk about everything, from his modelling days to the time he killed a cop. It’s usually light, small things though, like the story of when he got his piercing or why he likes a particular musician — either way, it’s peaceful.

Hobie and Artist!Reader who cuddle on the couch, his long limbs wrapped around your own as you make out – or fall asleep – to whatever vinyl is in the record player.

Hobie who uses your studio as the place to get high, evenings usually ending with red, hazy eyes and the munchies. He’s more than happy if you don’t like this, though.

Hobie and Artist!Reader who have definitely had sex in the studio, half-dried bits of paint on their clothes and skin from rolling about…

I plan to write more Hobie stuff so stay tuned! 🫶🏽

About Floppy Disk Curt... So, do you have some more plot made for this au? Sorry if you made a post and I missed it, I just mean - how does Owen realize that Curt is (semi) sentient? What does he do? How sentient is Curt, actually? What does he remember? And how much can he feel? Does their codependence get worse?

HAHAHA I'M SO GLAD YOU ASKED. I sort of expanded on some of the lore in some previous asks but none of it is super organized so I can go over it real quick! I'm still developing a lot of it so if things don't make a ton of sense, I'm working on fixing that lol. First off, I sort of shifted the time period around to be closer to the 90's to better fit the technology, aesthetics, and the rise in popularity of mascot-y desktop assistants.

Owen kills Curt during the staircase scene and despite what he tells himself and his coworkers. He regrets it. He regrets it so god damned much. There's no one to feel so strongly about anymore, whether it be love or seething hatred. He just feels empty.

Meanwhile, Chimera retrieved Curt's corpse and uploaded his consciousness into a computer with the hopes of getting what little he knows about the inner workings of A.S.S. out of him. (don't ask how this is possible, uhhhh silly sci-fi shenanigans I guess)

Of course, he's not cooperative. So Chimera opts to do the totally sane and not evil thing by separating himself from his memories of being human. His ambitions, his relationships, everything except for what Chimera needs. They can't seem to find a way to outright delete the memories for good (I'll probably either rework this part or figure out why they can't outright delete them) but what they can do is try and build up walls of restrictions to prevent him from accessing them. So for a a little while he's just this blank slate spitting out what little information he knows about A.S.S. Mostly useless.

Until Chimera gets an idea.

With the rise of a new trend comes the opportunity for PROFIT. This one being the rise of household computers and mascot-y desktop assistants to help the average user learn how to use a computer.

But Chimera wants to take it a step further. They are the future, after all. They want a desk top assistant that's incredibly life-like. Something that the user can have a genuine conversation with (like an incredibly early chatbot). This project is also absolutely meant to be spy-ware. 1000%. No way its not.

They call the project the 'Beta Anatomy Simulacrum Technology for Research and Development'. Or B.A.S.T.R.D for short! (I had to STRETCH to make that acronym work lmao)

Rather than start this from scratch, the project head (The name I'm going with right now is Harper Royale) has the brilliant thought of "well, what's more life-like than an actual human consciousness in a computer that we have collecting dust somewhere in the tech labs? It's already a husk we just add some code to it and bam it's ready!"

So they take the empty husk of digital curt mega and fix it up a little. Royale thinks its a good idea to give a miniscule amount of his humanity back to him. Namely curiosity (so he can learn things) and a basic understanding of how to have a functional conversation with people. Nearly everything else, like the cheery personality and character model, is all added in by the developers.

The good news is the projects going great! Employees within Chimera are finding the little guy really helpful and entertaining. Employees nickname him DC as a reference to his knowledge on A.S.S. Like their own personal informant inside DC (as in the capital of the us where a lot of government buildings and information is stored)

The bad news? Curiosity. Because now he wants to know why the sad looking British guy from one of the first few rounds of test trials keeps calling him Curt.

Tt spirals into this terrible loop of DC starting to put stuff together, never quite reaching the conclusion that he was a living person once (much less the importance of one Owen Carvour) before the employees catch on to what he's doing and reset him from square one. Over and Over and Over again. The only frame of reference that DC has are these hidden notes he leaves himself during each loop.

Eventually the higher-ups at Chimera realize that the cost of having to go through the complicated process of resetting DC the moment they figure out that he's gained a little sentience and then run through test trials AGAIN simply outweighs the potential profit. So they move to shut down the project, much to Royale's dismay.

The higher-ups joke that Carvour should be the one to do the honors, given everything between him and Curt. And he's like "ok yeah I'll do it" and they're like "we were joking but you've given us zero reason to doubt you so have fun killing the simulacrum of your former closest friend, bestie"

Owen, of course, decides to go behind everyone's backs and download the one and only existing copy of the B.A.S.T.R.D program onto his personal computer. At this point, Owen has no clue about DC slowly regaining his sentience if left unchecked and literally only did it because he has problems about processing the fact that he killed Curt that he refuses to confront. (what a normal guy)

So slowly, having been freed from this loop of resets, DC slowly begins to put together the pieces. He doesn't know how exactly Owen may or may not be involved in any of this, but he keeps most of this growing autonomy a secret for safety reasons. Just in case Owen is decidedly someone not to be trusted and turns him in.

DC, however, will test still the waters by subtly bringing up memories that he knows are somehow important to either him or Owen and then gauging his reaction. Doing his damn best to put together context clues.

Admittedly I don't have anything beyond this yet. I'm still working on Owen's reactions to all of this and also how the technology works. But I hope this answers at least some of your questions!

i have sincere hope that in future kh installments they'll fuck that old man back up because, really, they didnt redesign xigbar for 3, they just (in my opinion) didn't adequately convey his design in the new engine/style.

at certain angles and in certain lights (like in the above images) you can see that his face model still has the defined eyebrow creases, cheekbones, and mouth muscles that his design is meant to have. i think they just relied too much on the lighting to convey the shape of his face without adding detail to his texture, so he ends up looking pretty babyfaced.

other characters that look older (at least i think vexen is meant to look middle-aged) also look weirdly smooth kh3. like, ansem the wise has some good neck details, but the wrinkles on his face are clearly done using only the shape of his model, when they mightve looked more natural if his skin texture also reflected those wrinkles. and vexen straight up looks like a twink who does cosplay thirst traps as sauron or something. imo vexen looks pretty good in his Pirates skin because they added some realistic wrinkles and shadows to his skin texture. im not certain why they didnt do that, at least a little, in any of the non-Caribbean designs.

like. im saying this as someone who thinks that, broadly, the kh3 style looks really good. i still love (and maybe prefer) the older style but im really happy with how a majority of the designs were translated in a majority of the cutscenes.

i just. yknow. want them to fuck that old man back up. feel like pure shit just want him back. etc.

Based on how long the education to become a station master and/or drive trains, how old would you say Ingo and Emmet are?

Hi, anon!

I generally put them in their 30s based on their career status and how their models look in-game. If you notice, they don't have visible signs of aging, but you'll see them on characters who are a bit older, like Looker (and even Maxie).*

If you look at the two of them here in Masters, you can see they have decently young faces.

If you look at Looker and Maxie, who are a bit older, you can see signs of aging starting to appear on their faces.

Another good example is Kabu, who is finally joining Masters next month.

People can also rise to prominence at younger ages in the Pokemon universe (after all, Iris became champion at a rather young age, Poppy is in the Paldean E4, and Tate and Liza and Allister are Gym Leaders). So it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for Ingo and Emmet to be in their position at their age in-universe.

Short answer is I tend to place them in their 30s, around 34-35-ish. They're not spring chickens but they're not "old" by any means. Your 30s are still quite young. They're kind of like your 20s but with more money and awareness.

*(I'm not counting Larry here. I suspect he's in his 40s but for all we know he could be prematurely aging from constant stress and overwork.)

speaking of people's wrong opinions on art i love haikyuu's art development and its current style idc what ppl say about it

#not every mangaka needs to draw their characters like models sometimes they need to look a bit silly and match the overall tone #idk its sad that so many fans ignore how good furudate's shape language is like his stylization rlly pushed those formssssss ugh #also the faces got more variation it is so easy to tell hq characters apart even though hq rarely uses screen tones like its just bw #i also love how furudate draws old people he is so good at captivating the charm fo all ages ranges its sooooooo #i remember a few years ago i saw ppl complain about kuroo oikawa etc not being Pretty BOys anymore like i guess ut also it makes sm sense t #me #HQ is from HINATAS pov and i think characters like oikawa and kuroo looking goofier and less handsome/intimidating only highlights that the #become hinatas friends like theyre not these imposing seniors anymore those are his friends #i also like that they look and act their age i love that everone is pulling weird faces all the time #hq's visual comedy is just good in general esp with hinata and kageyama oughhhhh #haikyuu! art is great i think it plays such a big role in why its so beloved #even if not everyone likes it

+I'm more or less done with the wardrobe part of Crane's model sheets, at least for now. Next thing on the to do list is sketching some expression references to put off to the side so they're all in one place when I'm animating. I did end up changing two small simple things with Crane's hair that made a huge difference-- I think it has a better silhouette now, though I have to go back and update my last head chart again. Worth it though. I feel like I've improved a lot undertaking this project and right now, I'm satisfied with the progress and look of things.
