Cant get it out of my mind that Miquella actually sent Malenia to kill Radahn to free the stars...
Like in Rannis quest-line both her, and her retainers are scrambling to find a way to get into Nokron, and they could only do that by getting Sellens help and she is the one who reveals that they need to kill Radahn to free Rannis fate.
Like holy shit even Ranni, with all her scheming and intelligence, even she didn't know that Radahn needed to die in order to move on with her plan BUT MIQUELLA DID.
MIQUELLA KNEW THE ENTIRE TIME.
What else does Miquella know???? And with him giving the Spirit Caller Bell to Ranni and Torrent to Melina all to pass off to you, Miquella probably knows so much of what's going on to a terrifying degree.

it will be forever funny to me how the flashback portraits of Wittebrothers made Caleb seem like he's had packing peanuts for a brain
(this post ended up becoming quite lengthy, and so did the tags somehow, because I kinda devolved into a rant closer to the end of writing this whole thing, so bear with me here)
Tumblr media
so we know that Philip and Caleb became orphans when both of them were still kids. after that, they ended up in Gravesfield and, to fit in with everyone else who lived there, picked up witch hunting and started thinking that witches are pure evil. Caleb knew perfectly well that he's the only family Philip's had left and that he even may be his his only friend, since, judging by the portraits, they've only ever hung out with each other and we don't know if those two ever made any other actual friends.
Tumblr media
until one day, during a witch hunt he and Philip were both a part in (something Caleb seemed happy to do, judging by his smirk there), he met a witch – Evelyn – someone he's been taught to hate and want dead by the townsfolk. someone who, again, in his mind, should be evil.
Tumblr media
but he just suddenly does a 180 and goes "damn, you can make fire with your hands, you're actually pretty cool"
Tumblr media
and then a few days (?) of talking to her later, he's running off to live with her in the Demon Realm, while simultaneously not giving a single fuck about the brother he's abandoning.
Tumblr media
(he even runs off with a smile, with a literal :D face, I fucking can't lmao)
Philip ends up seeing Caleb get dragged off through a weird portal and later follows along, thinking something like "no, my brother wouldn't just up and abandon me without saying anything. he probably got captured by that witch we saw together that one time! she probably used some demon magic to bewitch Caleb and took him through that portal to kill him or worse! I gotta go save him!". and, after spending god knows how long in that realm, searching endlessly for his missing older brother, he eventually finds him. but he also finds that Caleb is not only perfectly okay and not hurt in the slightest, he's also peacefully walking together with the same witch who "captured" him, even holding hands with her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and when enraged Philip tries to attack Evelyn, to protect Caleb from the witch who took him from his home, from his brother, still thinking that Caleb's under her control, Caleb just... gives him a hug and goes on to introduce the witch as his new wife to him (I'm assuming that portrait is the same day as the other three, if not the same scene), also adding on top of that that they're having a child. all as if nothing happened. treating the whole thing like everything's perfectly okay and just another normal day, fully ignoring the fact that he threw his brother away with no care or thought, leaving him completely alone, a full orphan, now with zero actual family left (in TTT, during their backstory, it's said that "Caleb did his best to take care of his younger brother", meaning that either they never got adopted in Gravesfield, or whoever adopted them didn't give a shit about the two, so they still mostly had to fend for themselves), all to go smash some random 5 out of 10 witchussy he talked to, like, 3 times. no fucking wonder Philip killed him!
(btw, jokes aside, it didn't seem like he intended to kill Caleb, because in that portrait where he's ready to kill with a knife in his hand, he's facing forward, while Caleb is actually to his left. so it just looks to me like Philip was gonna try to kill Evelyn again, and Caleb either jumped in front of her to protect her and got accidentally stabbed or he attacked Philip back, to, again, protect Evelyn, and Philip ended up winning that fight. but that's just my theory)
my brother in literal christ and literal titan – why in the FUCK are you just hugging it out with a smile on your face??? you ran off while giving absolutely no warning to anyone, especially your younger brother! why do you think he's here and actively trying to attack you and your new wife? you're not even trying to address the fact that you left him! at least when Luz ran off to a different realm without warning, she had a "I'm still at the camp" cover, so Camila wouldn't worry that much about where her daughter is, and even then she still felt bad for leaving her mother and planned to go back home once summer was over. this chucklefuck, on the other hand, just permanently portaled away to the Boiling Isles, knocked up a witch and fully settled down there, walking around with a big ol' smile and no care in the world. "Philip who? never heard of him"
the only thing that would sorta make this situation seem better (as in, not make Caleb seem like an overly naive ignorant brick), in my opinion, is if they added one more portrait – after the one where he meets the witch, but before the one where he leaves. in that portrait, Caleb would look like he's trying his best to convince Philip that witches aren't actually evil, and perhaps even try to get him to go live with them in the Demon Realm, all the while Philip's looking at him with either disagreement/disappointment/disgust or just rolling his eyes and full on ignoring him, while sharpening his witch hunt tools or something. then it would look like Caleb at least tried to make his brother change his mind, like he tried to offer him a chance to go with them. but no. with the way the portraits look in the final version it just seems like Caleb was fully on-board with killing witches since he was young, even pulling his younger brother along to think the same way, Philip also thought that Caleb was perfectly fine with killing witches, but once he actually meets a real witch (assuming they've never met one before) he instantly pulls an uno reverse card and just runs off with her, without so much as telling his brother beforehand.
I'm not trying to say that "Belos should've been redeemed, because he's the victim here and Caleb is bad and it's all his fault". he still murdered his brother and went on to manipulate everyone on Boiling Isles for centuries, with his end goal being the death of all witches, while simultaneously being stuck in the loop of "denial" and "bargaining" stages of grief repeatedly trying and failing to recreate a perfect copy of Caleb, but also killing each one that came out wrong or went against him. Belos not being redeemed in the end was the right choice (ignoring the "Belos was always le bad" from King's dad), I agree with that. frankly, if he actually got redeemed in the end, I'd probably be seething for the next 3 to 5 years, like how I did after the Diamonds' "redemptions" in SU (yes I'm still pissed about that lol). I'm just saying that, from what was shown to us, Caleb didn't seem like that good of a person either, not as bad as Belos ended up being, but still not that great. and, once again, seemingly had a raisin for a brain.
(off topic, but during Masha's retelling of Wittebane's backstory, their "sounds like big bro got a hot witch girlfriend and little bro got upset" line was so fucking cringe, it gave me a fever for 3 days the first time I watched the episode)
k, rant over, I dunno what else to add
TL;DR: I think Caleb was dumb as a brick, because, from what was shown to us in their backstory, he seemed to have run off to Demon Realm and abandon Philip without telling him anything beforehand. when Philip came to BI to look for his brother, who he assumed was under control of the witch who "took" him, since he thought his last living family member wouldn't just abandon him, and when he eventually found him, and it turned out he wasn't in any danger at all, Caleb just brushed the whole "I left you for witchussy" thing under the rug and pretended everything was and is perfectly fine, even though it clearly isn't. rip bozo

ROSES FOR THE BLUSHING BRIDE
Your attempt at killing your kidnapper goes awry. How tragic it is—that the man who killed your love wore his face first.
— word count: 2.1k
— pairing: [unspecified] alkaid mcgrath x little painter/you
— tags: mentions of murder, suicidal thoughts and suicide, alternate universe - vampire/vaguely historical/reincarnation, mentioned non-con kissing+biting, unhappy ending [neither of them are mentally well - possibly ooc?]
— note: inspired by my little ramble in the tags of this gif post so it's technically PL but it could just be au alkaid. not sure if i did it justice but also, i wrote this over the course of two days so!! small victories!!! 🎉

THE DOOR CREAKS LIGHTLY AS it opens, the warmth of your candlestick highlighting the steps beyond it. The monster that resides in this manor is foolish, and your Alkaid is—was—not. The hefty lock that once guarded against you sits carelessly beneath a portrait of a woman who looks like you—who was once you, if the ravings of a mad man are to be taken seriously.
And if they are, then you will meet him soon—the man you were set to marry, with the same bright green eyes and light blond hair, and a warmth that the lord of this manor greatly lacks.
And if they aren't, then, that is simply not possible. Because, you think, how else can this be explained?
Your fingers lightly graze over the most recent puncture wound at the base of your neck. They play connect the dots and the monster's claim draws a circle. It ends where it starts, with the gemstones on the dagger's obnoxiously decorated hilt digging into the palm of your hand and your teeth gnawing at your bottom lip.
There sits a bruise there, the likes of which you've only ever allowed one man to gift you. You can still taste your own blood upon your tongue, metallic and bitter, but you can no longer remember your lover's smile.
Yearning overwhelms you, for a man long dead. It is something you can fight off almost as well as the monster. And it is a maddening thing—the way your carefully-groomed nails desire to claw your skin off. The way your hand twitches, dagger still in hand.
It is a mistake to think of him at all.
You cannot afford any mistakes, not when your weapon has been promised a different target. You cannot afford any mistakes, when your next life is to be a happier one.
So, the candlestick lifts higher.
Heels you might've chosen for yourself in another life clack against stone, the sound echoing throughout the darkened chamber. Yet, the monster still slumbers, oblivious to your intrusion. At the very end of the room lies a coffin, and there he waits, surrounded by white and green. By roses and their stems carefully preserved, a silent mockery of the promise Alkaid once made you.
Eternal loyalty—but this is not the eternity you desire.
In hopes of composing yourself, of chasing away the familiar disgust, fury, loathing, you tear your gaze away from the coffin. The grey floor has borrowed an orange hue from the candlelight. As you cross the distance, you do not look at the portraits that line the walls, with their never-changing subject, the contents of which you know only because the monster brought you to his lair exactly once.
You, with the same dead eyes and the same dead love and the changing fashions doing little to distract from your likeness. You, who were unfortunate enough to fall in love with that monster in some other lifetime, having been blinded by his pretty face.
And the bile that climbs your throat at the thought, which you choke back with a tired grimace—that, too, is familiar.
Tumblr media
WHEN YOU REACH THE COFFIN, the first thing you do is yank the flowers out of your sight. Your dagger comes in use much earlier than expected, handling all that your hands cannot.
It is the least you can do for Alkaid.
The monster remains asleep throughout. It's convenient—if you'd known it was that easy, you would've done it sooner. You would've avenged him sooner. Alkaid was a light sleeper, and you had assumed the same held true for the monster.
With the same hand that carries the dagger, you open the casket. It takes a bit of effort to ensure you never lose sight of your target—quite literally. The payoff lies in the way the candlelight illuminates the man resting within.
His lighter hair takes on a warmer hue, thought it's incomparable to the way Alkaid's hair would gleam golden under the sunlight. He is blue, dressed in an outfit that looks to be the furthest thing from comfortable sleepwear. Alkaid was beige and green, and he was always getting on your case about dressing comfortably.
Marking the spot where your hands should hover, you set the candlestick beside you, careful to ensure its enthusiastic flame avoids the hem of your dress. You're almost giddy with excitement.
You'll see Alkaid soon. You'll get to him, even if it takes ten or twenty—
The monster mumbles your name lovingly.
Alkaid?
The dagger freezes just before the blade can slice through the layers of fabric guarding his heart. Your heartbeat quickens. You watch the figure warily, waiting for anything that could signal his monstrous nature.
Why would Alkaid be here when he is meant to be dead?
But the monster has never said your name before. You are simply his bride, just the most recent in a long string of replacements. If you did not share the same name as all the rest, you're certain he wouldn't know what it was.
And if it is Alkaid, if he has turned into a monster, if he is just as much a victim as you—
How could you ever dare to hurt him?
You can't lose him again. His family and yours, if they're still alive, would gladly testify about the absolute wreck you'd been when he disappeared a few days before your wedding.
It was only when one of his friends mentioned that he had seen Alkaid near the monster's manor that you'd found the resolve to crawl out of your bed for the first time in weeks.
Of course, you hadn't known just yet that there was a monster at all. You hadn't known of all that was to transpire—that had already transpired.
Your grasp on the dagger's hilt tightens—you don't want it anywhere near Alkaid. You want to know if he's Alkaid. You want to shake the man awake and ask, Are you him? Are you the one I've been searching for? And what about the monster?
You know that if he says he was the monster all along, you'll forgive him with an ease he would not deserve.
Again, the man mumbles your name. It does much to distract you from your spiralling thoughts.
After all, it sounds like coming home.
You want to believe it sounds like coming home.
"Al—"
As if sensing that his name is on the tip of your tongue, the man rouses himself from his slumber. The first thing he seems to gaze upon is you—and the dagger you've pulled close to yourself.
Ah.
You tremble. His gaze is cold and his grip is bruising. Alkaid has never looked at you so unkindly. You used to find it disconcerting how easily the glare on his face would slip away if he glanced at you. Now you wish for it more than anything.
What have you done wrong? Why is he upset?
In your desperation, you almost beg: Alkaid—
Then, you blink, remembering the weapon in your hands. It coincides with the moment that a sense of clarity washes over you, beckoning you to recall your mission. To remember—
This man isn't Alkaid.
"Oh." Your heart flutters strangely. You want to claw it out too. "The monster."
Alkaid is dead, after all.
"Yes," the monster agrees.
The dagger plunges into his heart.
Tumblr media
AN ORDINARY MAN WOULD KEEL over from the pain. The monster only grunts. You might as well compare it to bumping into the furniture by accident, with the way he seems so unfazed.
His gloved hand climbs down to your clenched fist, as if hoping to wrench the dagger away from your fingers. He is a monster and your Alkaid was not—that is what makes the difference between living and dying.
"You didn't die," you note, disappointment plainly evident in your tone. "Did you know?"
Did you know this would happen when you gave me this dagger?
"I'm difficult to kill," he responds flatly.
You wonder who the scorn in his voice is directed to. His gaze seems distant—which one of your predecessors is he thinking of? But you've never learned to tell the difference, so it's not as though the answer would make any sense to you.
"Unlike Alkaid?"
The monster remains silent. It only infuriates you more.
"I hate you," you spit out. Tears well up in your eyes, though for what reason, you're not sure. "I'm sure they all hated you too."
Anger briefly flashes across his bright green eyes. Instinctively, you pull your hand away, pulling the dagger along with you. Blood drips onto your nightgown, dying its white fabric a bright red.
Beyond an sharp inhale, the monster's expression remains unchanged. You're almost surprised at how easily he lets go of your hand, at only the slightest show of resistance.
"I know they did," he says, eyeing the new stain on your dress. You don't want to put a name to the emotion on his face. A monster like that doesn't deserve it. "They all told me as much."
You fill in the blanks yourself. Before they died. But they must've been the same as the monster when they died—that is why he refrained from performing that particular act with you. That is why the blemishes on your skin have nothing to do with any sort of traditional violence.
He hates it when you're hurt.
"And how did they die?"
He doesn't care enough to see that you're past that point.
He looks haunted. "That's not something I want to tell you."
A spiteful part of you delights in watching his expression. It wonders how much more his face will crumple when you meet the same fate. Dying is the only part of your gambit that was guaranteed to work out flawlessly in the end—the only time you've ever tried to trust the monster sitting in his coffin.
(I will turn you only if you truly desire it.
...I don't believe you.
Do as you please. I will hold onto my word regardless.)
The dagger is still in your hand. You pull it away from the monster's reach and nod almost imperceptibly. You cannot kill him because you do not know how.
But you are not beholden to the same laws of nature as him.
"And you won't tell me where to find whatever it is that killed them either?" you ask, though you know it's useless to ask.
For you, it is either death or a life spent with the very monster that stole your lover away. You will remember nothing of this conversation, nor of the pain you went through when you awaken once again. And you will go through the same pain and suffering, all the while cursing your predecessors for not taking care of what should be their mistake.
But you can still meet your beloved.
You want to meet your beloved.
"You have no need for such a thing," he says, with your name on his lips.
That is enough for you.
Tumblr media
HIS EYES ARE GREEN JUST like Alkaid's. It's something you've noticed before.
As the dagger pierces your flesh, they widen in horror. You can't feel much of anything—if your hands were not holding onto its hilt, you wouldn't know you'd been stabbed.
There's an odd expression on the monster's face. Pained and familiar. It reminds you of the time you tripped over your own two feet, leaving you with scraped knees and elbows, and your dinner for the night littered across the ground.
You'd left Alkaid behind in a hurry, the siren's call of a warm meal too difficult to resist, and he hadn't been quick enough to catch you.
But the man in front of you is not the man you love.
Your lips pull into a faint smile regardless.
You're not sure why.
Tumblr media
THE HANDS THAT WRAP AROUND are so terribly cold. You know for certain they belong to the monster. His tears drip down onto your cheek and you're surprised to learn that he can cry. But the blood on your hands, on the dagger lodged into your stomach, is sticky and warm.
Your neck remains untouched. His previous words echo through your mind—a man can only watch the woman he loves die so many times, after all.
You think you might pity him.
That is, before the memory of his confession, of the way he killed your love, leaves you with nothing but fury coursing through your veins.
You think you curse him.
You think he welcomes it.

sorry for being an anti-modern media curmudgeon on main but just something about the way there seems to be a popular public consensus to look down on low budget slasher films of the 70s & 80s followed by a shift now to turn the sequels into big budget blockbusters that flatten everything unique to the slasher genre so that they can make movies that are comfortable for them to make — movies that look the same, sound the same, feel the same as any other modern action movie. and then they reduce the terminology coined to describe slasher genre conventions into these over-simplistic concepts no longer grounded in any of the films but just pop culture imagination (i.e. “final girl” means whatever now basically lol) and apply them to the horror genre as a whole. and now everybody’s a fucking expert on classic slasher movies because they’ve seen scream. this is a dead dead dead dead genre and we’re just dragging the corpse around. shaking filmmakers by the shoulders why does your movie have a budget!!! where’s the innovation

Okay but somebody has to talk about the way Brennan including an in-world storyteller at the top of the first scene in the first episode of main campaign, vaguely name-dropping world geography and some of the lore on the different casters, is MASTERFUL exposition.
I also can't get what seem to be Umora's version of sorcerers and warlocks out of my brain. Warlocks, okay, making a deal with a spirit makes sense makes sense.
BUT.
SORCERERS BEING THE CHILD/DESCENDANT OF HUMANS AND SPIRITS??
I want. Give me. Give me nowwww. I want a character (NPC or Guest PC) who is the child of a human and a Wild One like Eursulon who lost their spirit nature. I want the product of star-crossed lovers and MORE TRAPPED SPIRITS. The mechanics of that whole process [as explained in the Children's Adventure, Episode 5, not specified here so I don't have to tag spoilers] is so fascinating.
The mark of excellent fantasy/speculative fiction worldbuilding for me? When I can start speculating at the possibilities. When there are so many possibilities that your brain starts to populate the world with unfathomable diversity without that ever being spelled out to you.

First time in 10 years that children doing trick and treat knocked on my door!
The very very local children
(as in they gotta be living in my aperment complex to get into my aperment complex, that local)
Actually came by doing trick and treating. Well that was adoreble. Never exprainced it from the "being adult side" but! Cute. I had no candy ready though, so i gave them money instead
(Which was the normal solution back in my day in the early 2000s when i went trick and treating)

ok but every clawthorne-ism that hunter has (the teleport-dash spell, the “byeeeee!” thing, the thing where he twirls his staff in a fight and looks rly extra, the general snark, the self sacrificing bullshit, etc etc etc) he learned all of that from lilith. i dont care if theyve never actually interacted in the show. i dont care if in canon lilith hates his guts and it’s supported by 8 million pieces of crew art. lilith was hunter’s teacher as a kid and MAYBE their relationship grew bitter bc of coven politics and hunter becoming the golden guard but they were still close when he was younger. lilith didn’t get her palisman taken away bc of time travel shenanigans so she could have taught hunter how to use a staff. she was hunter’s first parent in his collection of hopefully many. dana terrace herself can come up to my door and tell me lilith and hunter never had a parent-child or even a mentor-student relationship and i will tell her she is wrong to her face.
#toh#the owl house#shut up pandora#hunter toh#hunter noceda#hunter clawthorne#lilith clawthorne#we all love edamommy but what about mom lilith#there are some similarities to the clawthornes i think hunter got due to genetics#like his hair thingies that go over his ears#and autism#but him saying bye like a van buren was not genetic im sorry he heard lilith do that every time he shadowed her taking down a wild witch#you know that one youtuber who makes animatics to hamilton of lilith being hunters mentor and showing the degradation of their relationship?#based#same with that one mom lilith au where she fights off like 5 schemes by kikimora to assassinate 5 year old hunter#i stopped following the comic at the point where she tries to leave the ec early bc hunter was getting abused i wonder what happened next#lilith is a lot sillier than ppl give her credit for even season 1 lilith#the woman was trying SO HARD to seem hinged she wanted to be professional but she cant help herself shes gotta snark#and hunter is trying to emulate his teacher bc to him that is what confidence looks like#though lets be real he probably got the self sacrificial tendencies bullied into him by belos#hunter and amity have a metaphorical t posing contest over which one of them lilith was more proud of as a student#mom camila is cute but i have no interest in dadrius or mom eda#instead i will stan paraine-t and mom lilith#two relationships which have been implied but have literally never been shown in the show ever#and yet i have built up an intricate relationship between them in my head and its canon to me now#oh but lilith should not get custody of hunter that woman is only now starting to get her life back together#hunters going to hit the age of majority before shes ready to actually take care of a child#shes like his wine aunt who is also his mom#like darius who is his wine uncle but also his dad but unlike lilith darius gets custody sometimes

so about that finale and the owl house parallels im in awe on how a show that started aired on october last year managed to do all that in this short amount of time. like i hope this opens the doors for more shows like these because they cant be cut short like this every time man
I completely agree, and I think this is especially groundbreaking given that it's happening in such a long-running franchise. I haven't seen any other Gundam shows, but I know that Suletta's the first woman protagonist, which only brings more merit to the way this show has been so incredible. I know I'm an optimistic person, but I do believe that shows like this will pave the way for others, we just have to show our support.
