Dammon: He doesn't mind that you're shy, it may take a while for the pair of you to get together though, since he doesn't want to overstep and make the first move. He can be a bit awkward at first too.

Once he recognizes how you feel he'll feel much better asking you about it.

He likes to keep to his work, he isn't perturbed at your soft spoken nature.

He'll enjoy it most of all if you seek solace with him at social gatherings, murmuring to him under the lull of the crowd.

He doesn't mind speaking for you, or running the errands that make you nervous.

If you're still shy with him after getting together he'll be sort of flattered in a way. He may joke or prod at you, asking if you think he's handsome and that's why you're so shy.

Loves that you find comfort in him, he always saves you a seat and makes sure to keep an eye out for you if you separate for whatever reason.

He'll remind you of all of this if you seem particularly nervous about an outing or gathering. He doesn't mind being you crutch, he actually really enjoys it. He likes taking care of you in every sense of the words.

Rolan: He's such a stubborn bitch.

He'll secretly be sooo nervous he did something to offend you if he isn't sure why you're averting your gaze or acting especially soft spoken with him.

It will take him FOREVER to work up the nerve to ask if something is wrong, and he might not believe you if you don't give him a thorough enough answer.

He'll have to see you shyness out in the open with everyone to realize it's not a personal thing.

I don't think he's someone who likes to make the first move, that being said if you've got that sort of infatuated, flustered nervousness around him he'll pick up on it quickly. He'll be flattered and take that as a good enough sign to move forward with you.

He'll try to inch you out of your comfort zone as much as he can, especially since you operate on a similar social battery.

Once he's noticed it's too much he's happy to bring you home and retire for the night with a good book and quiet conversation.

Even when he's trying to push you he's never too far away for that exact reason. He'll even offer you some rare praise when you've been especially self serving for the day.

He doesn't mind your shyness since he has a similar distaste for people at times, though maybe less for nervousness and more for sheer annoyance. He appreciates that you open yourself up to him, and couldn't ask for much more.

Zevlor: Oh he's been around waayyyy to long not to notice how into him you are.

He'll let you be shy around him for a bit though, maybe it's cruel but he's flattered and he finds it a bit cute.

Eventually when he gets you in private he'll be happy to make the first move.

When you're at the grove he doesn't mind you always hiding out with him, your shyness and dislike of crowds is all the more reason to spend time alone together, something he's keen to do.

He'll try to push you out of your comfort zone, and like Rolan he won't be too far away from you.

He'll actually probably be right behind you, arms crossed, giving whoever you mustered up the courage to talk to a warning glare to be nice to you.

When you've exhausted yourself he's happy to take leave with you and reward you in private with anything you ask, though he will make you ask, explicitly, and probably in great detail. He can't help being a little mean, not when you make it so easy.

Out of the three he'll push you the most, but he'll also be the most rewarding for it. He's secretly afraid something will happen to him, and then who will be there to help you out? He hates the idea of someone taking his place, so he tries to help you be more self serving.

He likes that you're shy and nervous around him, it makes him feel younger, handsomer, just good all around.

ok so i am very much uninformed on politics, i decided at a younger age that i wasn't interested in it and therefore would not read or keep myself particularly informed about it. obviously this is a bad idea, and i want to change and keep myself informed on actual politics and well, abstract[?] (wrong word but cannot think of another, basically mean like. knowing which political .. stance ?? [idk. like marxist or communist or whatever] i might be.) ones as well. what's a good place to get started here? where do i look for actual politics going on in india since i'm pretty sure ndtv or whatever isn't exactly the best source? or maybe it is? idk, like i said i'm pretty uninformed on the matter but would like to learn more

so one thing is, in india you have to accept the media landscape is just dire because being a journalist with integrity is a bit like signing up to have your life ruined. all major media has been bought by hindutva already. what you have to do is more learn to read between lines, understand people's motivations, which is a matter of practice. a good way to start is to read analysis (not news reports) of the same incident in different media and you'll start noticing patterns. even more important imo is to talk and bounce ideas with a friend at a similar place as you or someone interested in politics who won't overwhelm you with their perspective. you can try online but idt its safe or advisable anymore to do that experiment online. i had debate club in university (sad) and some socialist reading groups (better) after. the thing is this journey to self education is kind of personal and im also not pedagogically oriented or trained? so lots of first person description instead of prescriptions.

i still check what's up on ndtv because it gives me a good pulse of what english language media and liberals are thinking. major newspapers i scan hindu and the indian express sometimes. online i have a look at newslaundry (also has some youtube content) and the wire, they're reader supported and haven't turned full hindutva yet. i read longer form things in the caravan and epw, but these are subscription based. i keep tabs on the latest round of hindutva fake news when alt news debunks it.

for the abstract things, i literally did an online course bc i was frustrated by what all the liberal arts grads seemed to already agree on. i did ian shapiro's moral foundations of politics which is available online as both youtube lectures and a textbook. if you want to go that route feel free but it's not necessary, you can also try to read the entries on wikipedia or stanford encyclopedia of philosophy (more expertise) when you encounter something unfamiliar and build up like that. podcasts like bbc in our time will often interview academics to give intros to many political philosophy concepts and thinkers. whatever your learning style supports! i think the important thing is to find something you are actually interested in, and take that tack. i like history, so i might read books about historical revolutions or historical forms of organising society or listen to podcasts like mike duncan's revolutions.

I know, no one really has been asking for B/aku (Im gonna start on S/hinsou stuff soon I promise I just dont know what his voice OR sneeze should sound like) but I needed a test wav to see how my half assed blanket fort recording studio did, and...to me? the one listening to the wav over and over while I edit? It’s an improvement. I’ve got a noise cancelling blanket on the way from Amazon so hopefully that’ll help even more.

dissecting episode 1

(under the microscope. im mostly dissecting jaewon hes so interesting to study as a queer person myself, smiles)

ignoring the very first clip which shows waves and someone grabbing someone else... a bit confusing i dont have many thoughts about this.

ANYWAY ! we first see jaewon sitting on a couch in a office perhaps? with an aquarium (we see this again on the intro of episode 2 and if you see the trailer theres a close up of his face on the same place as well) and a women sits down in front of him and asks him what his worries are. now i cant make much sense of her behaviour cause she suddenly starts laughing? but id think shes some sort of counselor. now this could be for 2 reasons: one. he just left the military after finishing his mandatory time and it might be a thing they do? or two some other reason we dont know most likely. TRAUMA shocking i know.

then we have the restaurant scene. we see jaewon talking with his friends but his face changes when his friends keeps talking about how jaewon has a great life and connections and money and everything he wants and i dont want to state the obvious but... thats clearly not the case which is why we can see jaewon upset with the conversation even though he doesnt say anything about it and even forgives his friend... his relationship with his parents is most likely not the best and we can see that by the messages his mom sends and the way we can just see him in front of his gate but not getting inside.

then. their first real scene. jaewon asks jihyun for a cigarette he goes and grabs TWO which surprises jaewon a little bit and makes him happier probably because thats different not a lot of people would do that. they talk but its very casual like and somehow jaewon mentions a "동생" and gets real quiet, as if something had happened with that person. now, its translated as "younger brother/sister" because thats the only english word that it can translate to EVEN THOUGH (and im saying this as someone with very limited korean language knowledge) its not the most correct one because its just a word that people use to call someone whos younger than them (yes siblings count lol). so is he talking about a younger sibling or someone else? who knows.

when his friends grab him to go home he leaves but he isnt expecting for jihyun to just grab his hand and give him a lighter (it was such an intimate scene as well, very queer coded) and THATS what caught jaewons attention. because at first he was just making conversation, but that small moment changed how the path of their futures (hope im not getting too philosophical), and he even stopped and looked as jihyun left.

fast foward next day, jihyun sees jaewon and goes afterhim but loses him and finds the poster for free bird instead (soulmatism i say). and its at this point i realize i havent spoken much abour jihyun so ill start now. we know hes a small town boy, isnt used to such a big city like seoul and is even confused with all this new stuff hes seeing. thats how jaewon and him are different. to me, jihyuns fear is based on unfamiliarity and the unknown, hes still getting to know all these new things that hes never known before and thats why he later mentions that thats the reason he signed up for the surf club. he doesnt really know how to swim but he wants to try and face this new challenge onwards. jaewons fear is more rooted on past experiences and trauma is my guess. he knows who he is but hes scared or hes scared of the result if he tries something. i think its going to start to get better the more he gets to know jihyun and the more he gets comfortable with him.

the cafeteria. jihyuns eating alone and jaewon is suddenly there and thanking him for the other day (he means it. that second cigarette probably was everything to him at that time) and starts to get a bit bold with him, and asking him why he didnt call and at this point there are so many jihyun reactions where you can just tell how this type of relationship is new to him but also how he wants to explore it and find out where it takes him.

we can see that when he meets jaewon again outside the restaurant and says "if we're going to be friends we need to know each others names" and jaewons truly gets a bit paralysed? confused? about it, he wasnt expecting jihyung to say something like that. tells him his name and leaves.

going a bit back, jaewon is at the same restaurant again. why? because he remembered that it was the restaurant jihyuns worked at and he convinced his friends to go inside with some excuse only to look for jihyun but... he wasnt there. things start to go downhill when his friends mention his ex who he wants to have nothing to do with and just wants to forget and one of them even invites her over! some friend he is... jaewon gets reasonably upset (ill talk about what i think happened with the break up on the ep2 essay bare with me), leaves and jihyun goes after him. in this scene i dont think jaewon is upset with him but it was a mixture of a lot of things, disappointment from not seeing jihyun when he was the reason he went to the restaurant in the first place, anger at his supposed friend inviting his ex who he doesnt like and thats why he says "i didnt see you earlier" with this really empty sort of expression.

and lastly, the very last scene. he sits with jihyun for two reasons: be away from his ex but also because he genuinely wants to continue whatever this relationship with jihyun is. it makes him happy and its different and GOOD something that he doesnt have a lot going around his life...

yea... thats it. my thoughts are all scattered but yea lets talk about it if u want i have so much to say still and i want to hear what everyone else is thinking and i also want to mention how much i love this already it was hook line sinker the first episode it. it just feels so raw and perfect and so queer coded to which is why i want to kind of gatekeep it from people who are just watching bc its u know... a bl (will i be persecuted like the witches used to by saying this... hm)

an excerpt from mika schmidts character story one

When Mika began learning to read his mother went inspiration- gathering abroad with his father accompanying her. During that time, the responsibility of looking after little Mika landed in Huffman's hands.

However, Huffman had already made the Knights of Favonius his second home — he was preoccupied with work during the day and indulged in drinking with his friends night after night. With his own life lacking organization, how was he expected to take care of his little brother?

So it was little Mika who learned to take care of both himself and his brother whenever he'd return home drunk at night. When other children his age were enjoying their childhood without a care, Mika had already learned to stick to an organized schedule, sometimes even helping Huffman with his everyday chores.

ive bolded the text to show you what im focusing on here. just putting aside the blatant fucking stupidity of their parents.

Huffman was placed in charge of Mika. Mika, who had just started learning how to read, which makes him around SIX YEARS OLD. And he's taking care of his adult brother, who is coming home drunk at night???? And helping Huffman with his own chores????? The character story even states that other children were enjoying their childhoods without a care, something Mika should have been doing rather than adulting for his older brother.

and like Huffman had to have been drunk enough to have a reputation as a drunkard.

Word of Mika signing up for the expedition spread like wildfire throughout the Knights of Favonius.

"Huffman's little brother will be joining us! The little kid who always takes care of that drunkard will be joining the Knights!"

and dont even get me started on how this means they literally just let huffman keep going home drunk so often

huffman had a responsibility and he floundered it, instead turning it upon MIKA. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO WATCH OVER MIKA BUT MIKA WAS TAKING CARE OF HIM.

huffman and his parents may have supported mikas cartography dreams but they messed him up during an extremely formative part of his life. like thats literally child neglect.

and yes mika is a lot better outside of a professional setting but it's very clear that he has issues™. like noelle and jean, mika is often taken advantage of by the other knights to take care of things they should very well be able to themselves.

Making camp, starting a fire, cooking food, and maintaining equipment... these are all essential tasks that must be done. so. grim is a species called direbeast with a high blot density? or they said he's a mix between direbeast n something else and to me, that reeks of experimentation...but who would do such a thing ? and his blot accumulation spikes and drops unexpectedly....maybe as a direbeast, grim is able to turn blot into a magical energy source ?

and there's traces of a...powerful spell on him ? the fire in his ears being blue isn't just a cute and silly thing and it's signs of a curse ? omg. wait do you think that grim is actually some sort of beast from thousands of years ago that got put to sleep by a powerful spell, and he just woke up now ? all this grim lore makes me wanna know more abt where he came from...

so their curse is that blot gets incinerated the moment it accumulates within them. so the ancient shrouds led a revolt against the jupiter family using the original phantoms (whatever that means) and thus got cursed + banished to the island of woe. they manage tartarus (phantom prison) and the underworld (phantom graveyard). and they're doing blot research in order to get rid of the phantoms so that they can regain their freedom....wow.

and if they don't have any blot. the curse goes straight to eating up their magic, so they constantly need to be using magic to even live. oh my god. the reason why they gave them that job is bc the phantoms will continue to leak blot into the world even after they're dead. so jupiter family put that curse on the shrouds with every intent of making them like a sponge that can "purify" any blot that escapes. bc if not it'll start affecting the world.

so that's why they're doing blot research :00 !! they're trying to figure out a way to neutralize or reutilize blot bc. the shrouds want to escape. they don't want to keep living in the island of woe, which is why they want to turn the phantoms into an energy source. it would bring them back the honor they had once lost + they don't have to keep living at the island of woe to keep the phantoms in check.

okay so. i noticed this before. but ortho was talking about himself in third person in one of the chapters. like "what can ortho do for him" instead of using his usual personal pronoun of "boku". and then idia mentioned "what happened ot ortho when we tried to leave this place". so...i'm assuming that there's two orthos, and that one of them is dead ? or something happened to him ? meanwhile the ortho we know rn also knows about this other ortho, and sees him as an extension, but not entirely, himself. (also take note this is all speculation i do not know if im right or wrong)

Daddy Dan to the Brain Soup Pot

Let’s get I this out of the way first. Papang deserved to be in the intro to the series as much as Atom. Hell he got more screen time than Yo and Plug (much to my dismay) I adore Papang will sing his praises until I’m blue in the face. I really love Dan’s character in terms of for the story. Let’s talk about what we know about him. He met Nick at university and was friends with him. Works in animation as well. He had a long term relationship that ended before he called Nick to intern at his company. Dan is a decent guy he but like Nick they are both trying to recover from heart break in away. Dan was used to not going out etc and he wanted something comfortable and long lasting again. Nick fit perfectly he’s younger and looked up to Dan.

Dan wasn’t completely blind to Nick’s hesitation but Dan was desperate to be in a relationship again so ignored the signs staring back at him. I was possibly too hard on him for not interpreting Nick’s signs of distress. He did seem to want to get to know and support Nick which would be great was mentally in a place for a relationship. I think pre Boston’s “who are you” and “it’s none of your business” lines Nick was ready for a relationship with Boston. But afterward with Dan Nick can only mimic what he saw Boston do a false confidence. Nick doesn’t believe he should have love or affection. No amount of words from Dan would have changed this. Nick himself has to agree that he is worthy of being loved. Nick did benefit from trying to enjoy himself with Dan. I think it gave him the ego boost of knowing it’s not just Boston who likes him. I’m really glad Dan didn’t chase after nick or make things awkward when Nick turned him down. Im glad they didn’t make Dan creepy. I am disappointed we don’t get a Dan confronting Boston scene but I’ll live.

Okay enough talking nice I still want to put him in a jar and shake him for making the intern work over hours and fucking him on the hard desk. What is wrong with Dan? Also power imbalance awful.

(Pardon if this kinda sucks, it's almost 3am and im on the verge of sleep but it's in my mind)

So yk that scene where Padme gets choked? We all do.

But imagine reader in that position and all the chances leading up to that and the subtle signs and how she beats herself up for not noticing sooner, for not trying to stop it because she was so in love and figured he was just stressed. Anakin's responses became sharp with her, he was always on edge, he was cold, he was wanting to discard of her but at the same time he was fighting the internal battle of "that's my lady, my beautiful wife, soon to be mother to my children, i love her." and "I dont need her to be powerful."

"But there's something about her, long shady eyes, im all about her"

This was what Anakin was saying to himself as you were in the shower, humming softly after a long day trying to wash away the stress of that day as he was picking at his thumbs becoming more and more irritated with himself. He couldnt NOT rule without you, but what if you werent on board with him? What if you'd look down upon him like he felt everyone else was? Or... maybe you also had a dark side? Maybe you were hiding something? But the thought of you hiding something made him all the more angry.

"I hate your tattoos, you've weak wrists but i'll keep you"

The tattoos he was referring to was (if you have actual ones or if you like to draw on yourself, i personally love both) was when you would trace light patterns into his skin, when ever you laid together, how calm and at home he felt, how he let his guard down a little bit and you noticed and smiled and would kiss his cheek or earlobe before looking at him... but the minute you looked away with a soft smile, it would be like he noticed which would automatically put his guard back up. You could physically feel him tense around you and subtley move back from you. You'd brush it off, maybe it was a chill. Then he'd grab you by the wrist and move your hands off him before leaving out.. doing whatever it was he did when he left abruptly.

Is how'd he feel when he'd come back to you as Darth Vader reminding you in an almost taunting way that even though Anakin may be dead and Darth Vader is what remained, youre still married. That ring never came off, he wasnt doing it so much for love as he was for ownership. He knew that deep down you were still at his every beck and call, that you were still holding onto that chance that you could bring Anakin back. Vader knew you couldnt but he would use your hope to his advantage. There was no escaping him, he knew how to work you, he knew how to get you to fold for him. You were his once before, you'll be his once again.

the pantages is the most gorgeous theater i’ve ever been in (not that i’ve been in many but u know)

it’s also along the walk of fame and kirsten chenoweth’s star is right by the door (lena horne's is just across the street)

they didn’t advertise my show as accessible but it was open-captioned and asl-interpreted (but it looks like both things were only viewable to ppl seated on the left side)

an old couple next to me were trying to figure out which “chopin composition” the pre-show music was? (they’re all piano covers of pop songs) v confused

the “queen bios” in the playbill list aragon’s interests as “religion, sewing, dancing, and a bit more religion”, boleyn’s says she’s remembered for “headlessness”. parr’s talks about her friendship w mary and that her mom was LIW to some previous wives, but makes no mention of the fact that aragon was her godmother(/namesake) or that she married seymour’s brother

the minute greensleeves started playing, people started cheering. it was so fun

khaila was born to play aragon that's all im saying. literally nonstop applause until the dluh intro

storm's boleyn tiptoed that line between "idk what's going on" and "smart and cunning" so so well

cleves did the ponytail-pull instead of seymour? idk if this is a recent change but it has Interesting implications characterization-wise lmao also it was just funny because olivia had to significantly reach up to get to courtney's hair

speaking of which, both nat and cmack's new wigs look a lot fancier than their old ones somehow

im pretty sure nmp actually started crying during hos (which, even though i've heard her sing it a million times, was every bit as beautiful as i thought it would be)

hoh live is an Experience in the best way, they just looked like they were having the best time bouncing around the stage

the audience member picked for get down was so good/confident olivia cheered for her the entire time instead of doing the "this is my song" bit after shfghjkl

get down is already such a lively song but olivia's version amps it up even more like i was in stitches during the intro and the entire audience was fired up by the end

the k-howard roast didnt get as many laughs as it should've :// i felt so bad for courtney because she delivered those lines flawlessly

and then loud and immediate applause after aywd??? L audience tbh

(also interesting note – the asl interpreter didn’t sign for applause after the song like she did for all the others)

natalie's "I DIED" was every bit as amazing as all the audios. also she basically chased khaila offstage while saying that line sdkf

i think gabriela is my new favorite parr im so obsessed w her take on idnyl and her acting (even in the background) is impeccable

there were some obvious mic issues – both cmack and storm were a bit quieter than everyone else and khaila was way louder; all three of them left the stage at various points for unknown reasons (but there wasn't a show stop and i dont think most people noticed someone missing)

this cast's chemistry was i n s a n e like the little interactions and they way they reacted to each other plus the harmonies…10/10 no notes

speaking of which. there was a really sweet moment toward the end of idnyl ("why should i tell that story?") where aragon puts her hand on howard's knee comfortingly

standing ovation after six!!! idk if this is a regular occurrence but they bowed an extra time because of all the clapping lol

except then people started leaving, so courtney had to start the megasix early and you could barely hear her over the audience

but it was ok cuz people stayed on their feet throughout the megasix too and again the girls took a really long time leaving the stage after bc the cheers kept getting louder!!!

tldr i had the BEST time and if the tickets weren’t so expensive id go again and again <3

her younger sibling was not as fortunate and spent their whole lives trying to find something they were good at and ultimately failing. soeun holds them as a reminder of why she needs to always keep trying and always be the best because there's no way she'll let herself end up like her younger sibling.

anyways yeah she just kept training and playing tennis. signed away her childhood but the fame and glory and attention was always more fun anyways

shes messy but it’s not like she actively tries to be? when you’re raised in a crazy competitive family where shit talk is the normal way of life.. it’s just how you live life

she’s very much an entertainer. invited to a few variety shows, which she excels at because she’s just loud and bright and funny (but she’s not allowed to go on anything live. she’s a tad too unpredictable for that) 

genuinely believes in herself. the cockiness isn’t an act, she is genuinely and truly believes that she is the greatest and she can do anything. she doesn’t think that she deserves all the gold just because she's cha soeun - but because she knows that she’s talented and she works her ass off. 

on that note, she is very, very, very dedicated to her sport. incredibly hard worker. will stay till dawn. will practice till her fingers are calloused and bloody!!

some thoughts on the official subs for the revue starlight movie (woooo!!!!!!!!) (wrt my own)

overall: IT WAS GOOD. there were some questionable things but it was good. i do think a lot of it was better than mine (i mean i would hope so bc they are paid and qualified to do this and i am not) this is a very lighthearted post about small inconsistencies and things i just burned into my brain

first of all i was like. actively trying not to fixate on the translations so I didn't really look too closely at the lyrics, but i will say some of them blended together lines that in my opinion were not meant to be connected and so it distorted the meaning (what i understood it as at least), it was only in like 3 or 4 cases though i think (i honestly cant remember which) and there were many lines i liked more than my own (i cannot remember) some were also exactly or almost exactly the same

they translated 腐れ縁 in futaba's revue intro as inseparable (bond, or something), this made me go D: and doubt mine (rotten relationship). 腐れ縁 is basically like inseparable but negative, like you're stuck together even though you don't want to be. so i guess i was leaning more to the negative (and more literal) side, for better or for worse. i think it has some sort of weight in the context of futakao's relationship though since inseparable can be positive by itself.

UM UM UM GHEGEHHEHEHEHEH ok duh of course i dont mind. do YOU mind i'll talk a lot!??!!?

first let me be insane and list everything we know of her family:

1. lives with grandmother, she makes takane's school lunch and apparently wakes up very early. at the crack of dawn as takane puts it. also the one who gifted takane's trademark headphones! has exactly 1 line in the series and it's her telling takane to get the hell up or she'll be late to school (i love takane's intro chapter in the second novel. it's so funny) takane says that if she were to say she's not feeling okay her grandma could go as far as to get her hospitalized so she's also concerned over takane's condition.

2. grandfather passed away, but takane specifies how worried he always was about her illness, more so than her grandma. in second manga route he's still alive and was the one to get takane hospitalized in the first place. in a main route he's the one to push her into enrolling in that highschool. in my opinion, haruka and takane meet each other a little earlier in second manga route than they do in a main route, maybe when they're around 14. they also look a little younger imo but im delusional! i think this because takane's grandpa is still alive then, hence why haruka and takane are slightly younger! THIS IS ALL TO SAY, in a main route takane's grandpa probably dies slightly before or slightly after takane starts hs(in a slightly after situation it'd give place for special needs class bonding times if haruka and kenjirou comfort takane. (holds head))

3. her parents work overseas. that's all we fucking know about them.

im so curious about takane's family NOT ONLY because obviously im crazy and also she's my favorite character but man isn't this something so oddly specific. she lives with her grandparents because her parents work overseas. yeah? for how long? was she raised by them? obviously she's living with them long-term if they're the ones worrying about which highschool she's gonna go to!! ANSWER MY QUESTIONS JIN PLEASE...

MY PERSONAL HEADCANON TEEHEE which. is what u asked but i wrote a whole wall of text before answering im sorry look if youve followed me for a while u know that's kinda the drill.

i headcanon that takane's parents have always worked overseas but also travel a lot. like, not to say "overseas" as in they live in a set place outside of japan but to say they're always moving from country to country doing whatever the hell it is they do. move locations every few months inside that set country and every few years move to a new country altogether.

and when takane was little she did use to travel around with them. i also like the hc they're very career-oriented people and the kinda parents who are always working. not that they were MEAN to her but they were just. not there a lot?? and eventually leave her at her grandparents bc that wasn't a compatible lifestyle for a kid and ALSO she was showing signs of her illness and they were like teehee. i dont wanna deal with this. BTW i imagine takane being soooo little when that's going on like maybe 6 or 7 when she moves with her grandparents. so she does grow up with them after a weird start with her parents.

they kept visiting like during holidays and stuff. but they were never very warm loving parents and takane already had a family routine/dynamic with her grandparents so it was mostly just an awkward gift exhange how's school going kinda thing. eventually when takane gets her diagnosis they just start to disappear completely LOL stop visits completely and as time goes by the awkward phone calls are just texts and then the texts is 1 birthday text a year and then not even that

ratio + her parents are her grandparents💖 from the fan content i've consumed over the years it's the consensus that takane's parents are career-driven people and she doesn't have a good relationship with them and that they're honestly just dickheads. BUT I'VE SEEN some odd ones here and there who think takane loves them and is sad they're not around because of work but that's the minority honestly?? i personally prefer abandonment issues takane 👍 but i do love hearing different ideas hehehehe....

also i think after disappearing ene keeps checking up on her grandma to see if she's ok :( ofc never revealing herself. mostly just snoops. takane and her grandma post str reunion (my brain explodes)

Currently (or maybe soon) Reading Novels, some thoughts:

I'm currently reading In The Dark volume 1. My thoughts so far: they're a good writer, not my favorite though (priest is still pretty easily the favorite of mine style wise), but I do like the fast pacing of this novel and the way the author moves things along. Both me, and priest, sometimes dawdle in a scene for ages soaking it up, which is fun to read but also thats how you get the 4000 character chapters priest writes ToT (and the 3000-5000 words a scene i often write). So this writer is inspiring me to try and be more casual about my writing as far as just moving forward, not caring so much about perfect in depth ness. Plot wise? Mixed. So far its fairly basic, with the tell tale signs of general tropes like traditionally pretty leads and heroic detectives with playboy vibes. After priest its just hard to adjust... priest makes Such specific characters, even when they fall in some trope categories theyre so unique you'd not swap them with any other similarly trope having character or it would feel wrong. Like Luo Wenzhou is heroic detective playboy, but his history (of failed dating) hangs off of him heavy, his nurturing protective loyal to a fault colors every decision he makes (from getting to attached to fei du, clingy to tao ran, blind to superiors being shady, and trusting of mentor's children even if crime adjacent or involved until its IN his face), his controlling leadership style seeps into interactions with everyone from his parents to best friend to boss to coworkers to barely adjacent witnesses. His character faults (and unique aspects i love) are so intrinsic to him i could never mistake him for zhao yunlan Another Playboy Rich Dad Heroic Detective. Zhao yunlan isnt controlling, he is more level headed in viewing people with the facts before letting loyalty blind him, zhao yunlan is far WORSE at self care and nurturing of others and when he does help others its motivated by charm or kindness first (versus Luo Wenzhous ingrained normal state is nurturing, he finds it feels safe, lets him control making sure others have X things they need and provide routine to help them, hes a mother hen). Luo Wenzhou is quite aware of his economic status, his family backgrounds, comparative to his employees, comparative to fei du, just a general much higher awareness of how those differences affect everyone (from it being too hard to ever get custody of fei du as a possibly abused child, because luo is unrelated and too poor to challenge custody with a CEO, to the way hes aware he can abuse powers in certain ways that his underlings cant... so he stands up to authority more with an awareness hes got more room to negotiate). Zhao Yunlan is more reckless amd uncaring if there are consequences as long as he does the right thing (though he has status to somewhat protect him), while lup wenzhou is actually viscerally aware of risks at all time and despite being passionately kind and believing in justice... he is aware if hes not careful as he acts, then the effort is wasted and he will fail and no one will be helped. Luo wenzhou is much cooler headed and less passion motivated than zhao yunlan (though zjao yunlan isnt as simple as hot headed as hes got inherent power and intuition and ftankly Can Afford to be riskier). My point is... priest can give me multiple characters that would be summarized under the same tropes and be vastly different in actual personality. In The Dark? So far its not giving me much to make its characters stand out compared to say the intro to Breaking Through The Clouds ive read. Nor is its case. But time will tell. I need good characters though or i get bored.

I will say though, In The Dark so far succeeds at feeling like a detective novel aimed at murder mystery readers With queer characters, rather than being a BL with a murder mystery side plot. Theres 3 queer characters within the first few chapters, so no stupid "im not gay except for him" and a realism to handling queer characters that feels nice. Its similar to MoDu in that way, so im anticipating a solidly written murder mystery with queer characters as major players.

Novels Im considering reading (so any thoughts? Suggestions??): liehuo jiaochou, the positive? Its kind of mutants in the present plot, which is one of my favorite plots and what sucked me into Guardian the drama. Since i loved xmen and qnything with an xmen like premise will make me interested. Also, theres an ancient guy in it, so i like the themes possibly of past compared to present, beliefs clashing, moving forward. Can ci pin: i know im going to like it, the downside is its SO long im not sure im up for it right now. 2ha: i never finished it and own 3 of the print books now, so i know ill like it and i love meatbuns writing. Downside? Its SO LONG also i kind of want to read something new, and the first 100 chapters would be rereading. Peach Blossom Debt: i own it now, i heard Etetnal Love sort of ripped it off so im curious if pbd is better... because i basically hated and hate watched Eternal Love... but i saw the potential in some of it, and it was very queer friendly suprisingly for a bg romance drama. Imperial Uncle: i heard it was great, i think edanglars translated it so love that for me. Tai Sui by priest: i heard its amazing, but its very long so im not sure i qm up for it now. Guardian: see heres the thing. Ive read 20% in chinese. Its slow going. But im 1/5 through it so im kind of commited to finishing it in chinese. Its taking ages but ive just been picking qt it, im unlikely to read it any faster frankly, and im unlikely to touch the english copy at this point until im done with the chinese so i can have fun comparing the translation to the original. Also i need to reblog the Kunlun intro i translated, because its in my chinese print copy but they did not include it in the english translation :/ i hope they include the shen san extra in the english translation eventually. But im bummed theyre not including everything. Jinse by priest: i heard it was good, im glad its short, but not sure hpw into the plot ill be. Sha po lang: i just want the drama to live... i want tan jianci.... anyway. I want to read it and i know ill like historical steampunk... but im in a murder scary stories supernatural mood lately, so murder mysteries like In The Dark and supernatural like Guardian are just wayyyy easier for me to focus on and read right now.
