I still can't stop thinking about the M27 teaser trailer. Honestly, when the very first teaser (that had played after the credits of M26) became available online without subs or translation, I thought the new movie might have an amnesia sub-plot. Like something happened that would make Kaito forget everything related to Kaitou KID and Heiji and Conan would have to deal with that along with the rest of the movie's plot. Of course, that idea was shot down from the translation, but I got attached to it for fanfic purposes lol.
So, after seeing the new teaser, that first silly impression is slowly becoming a fully fledged fic (is it HeiKai, HeiShin, HeiKaiShin, idk haven't reached that far yet 😅)
Like yeah, I want the dissonance of KID being aware that Heiji knows Conan is Shinichi, and Heiji not really knowing that Kaito looks like Shinichi (because Kudou never tells him any details that are not important for the task at hand). If anything, Heiji probably heard that's an option from Kazuha because Ran kept complaining to her about all the times KID had disguised as Shinichi before (or given recent manga spoilers, even from Hakuba and his suspicions).
That's why when Heiji unmasks him by cutting through his top hat, KID still slips into his Shinichi disguise (after doing it so many times, I'm convinced he can without a mirror at this point). Not because Heiji will believe it, since Conan is right there, but to buy time.
Heiji, of course, is pissed off about it, and given the whole Kidzuha fiasco, he wants to cut KID in half more than play along.
But KID says that he can't help it if disguising as the people that Heiji loves will keep him safe from his wrath. While Heiji has a crisis over what kind of love does he mean, KID makes his escape (recently stolen sword and all). Heiji throws his sword after KID, like a javelin, and unbeknownst to him, actually hits the handglider. KID drops out of the sky, fate unknown.
Next day, Iori shows up to bring Heiji to Momiji's temporary place (will the plot remain in Hokkaido, dunno) as there is a sensitive matter to discuss. Turns out, they found KID somewhere. While they recognize this person looks like Kudou Shinichi, it's still pretty obvious the clothes he had been wearing was KID's outfit. Heiji manages to convince them to bring Conan along, since the suspicion for KID's real identity will fall on his "cousin" and who's better to dispel these kind of rumors.
What neither of them expects when they are left alone with KID though is that one, he doesn't know who he is; two, he doesn't recognize Conan; but three, he remembers Heiji.
For now, I think the sword has something to do with this temporary amnesia (like holding a part of Kaito's soul or sth) since he feels more like himself whenever he's close to it. I also like actual magic shenanigans in the DetCo universe because it means I can make Akako appear (if the magic is real, she can exist. That's my rule lmao).
But that's pretty much what I have of this idea.

Hi, I love your blog! I have a question for you. What do you like more: ShinRan or HeiShin?
Ooookay, I'll try to get to answering the embarrassing amount of asks I've got now. Sorry about the wait everyone! Work and real life things just... wouldn't let me. 🥲
Alright so! These two are, as you know, my most precious relationships. I love both of them be romantic or platonic. The thing that is clear to me is that they are soulmates, yes or yes. No other options.
As for which is my number one. It's gotta be shinran! I've grown up with them and loving them. I really love their love. I haven't seen two characters that love each other this much ever. And Shinichi is possibly the most smitten character EVER. Canonically there is no one else for him than Ran.
But! As you know, I'll still cherish heishin with my whole heart too. I do have to admit that I tread a very fine line between platonic and romantic with them, so yeaaaah. Sorry if it's confusing or something!

Writer Goal Ask List for a New Year 🎉
I was asked a couple of writer goals by @calysto1395! 😀 Thank you so much for asking me about my writing goals! (Sorry the askbox wasn't set up yet, LOL 😅)
🛳 Are there any new ships you want to write for? (Platonic, romantic, or anything in between.)
Yes, actually! 😀 I would love to write for Katsuki Bakugou/Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia!
Tumblr media
I already make so many amvs for them, but I really want to write for them, too! I have an idea that I'm hoping to write this year 😁
💥Is there a chapter, scene, or WIP you're most excited to write? Share a snippet or tell us about it!
OMG YES! I have one in particular I'm thinking of for HeiShin, but it would be a SUPER SPOILER so I'll go with a snippet for another HeiShin fic instead 😊
Tumblr media
“Here’s your tea, sir!”
Shinichi looks up and smiles at the server beside him, taking in his charming grin and playful, viridian eyes. “Thank you…” He makes an effort to look like he’s studying the other man’s name tag pinned to his apron, even though he knows his name perfectly well. “...Heiji.”
Heiji grins, surprised and wide. “Anything else I can get for you today?”
“How about a little company?” Shinichi asks boldly, secure in the knowledge that his advances won’t be rejected.
Not here, anyway.
“Oh!” Heiji looks around the nearly empty tea shop before turning back to him. “I really shouldn’t…we have customers.” He bites his lip briefly before grinning again. “But I suppose it wouldn’t hurt for a little while. Hey, Kazuha!” He calls over his shoulder as he pulls out the chair opposite Shinichi’s at the little table. “I’m takin’ my 15!”
“Ugh, fine! But keep yer flirtin’ to 15 minutes, please!” She calls back from somewhere behind the cafe’s large counter.
Heiji laughs as he settles across from Shinichi and rests his chin in a propped up hand. “So, bold stranger. What now?”
“Why don’t you tell me about yourself?” Shinichi asks, taking a sip of his tea. It’s perfect, just the way he always takes it, and he smirks at the man across from him. “I’d love to learn more about the handsome barista I see every morning.”
Heiji’s eyebrows fly up and his mouth opens slightly in surprise. Shinichi loves that expression on him; moreso when he’s the cause. He doesn’t have the opportunity to catch Heiji off-guard often.
(One of the reasons he enjoys it here so much.)
Heiji laughs and rakes his eyes over Shinichi’s form slowly. “All right, stranger,” he smirks, making smoldering eye-contact. “You asked for it.”
Shinichi grins back, relaxing into his seat as Heiji opens his mouth-
And promptly fades to black, along with the entire scene.
“...No!” Shinichi yells into the aether, trying to keep a firm grip on the coffee mug that evaporates into thin air. “Wait-!”
Only silence and darkness answer him.
Shinichi sighs and folds his arms over his chest as he sulks into the void.
Not again.

personally i think of u and @/marshmallowgoop as the heishin pros so i HAVE to ask. what do u think heiji's and shinichi's love languages are?? need this for scientific research
Hello anon! I'm very flattered to be thought of a HeiShin pro, especially alongside the talented Goop!
I love this question though... the more I think about Shinichi and Heiji's similarities I realize they are polar opposites; The East and The West. How ironic?
I personally view Heiji's love languages to consist of words of affirmation and physical touch. He seems like an overly affectionate guy and I love him so much you have no idea.
Shinichi on the other hand is totally the opposite. I believe his love languages are quality time and gift giving (I noticed that he had given a few gifts to Ran before...?) Shinichi seems to really enjoy spending time with the people he loves and soaking in the moment.
Anyhow, there you have it! Heishin love languages! This was such an adorable ask and I'm very touched. Thank you for sharing your question with me! ❤

follow up from ur secret santa - few questions! 1: you listed kaishin and heishin but do you like polyshipping? 2: same question re kazuseran! 3: "Canon plot or canon divergence, fluff or just happy chill things" leaves me a LOT of room... maybe too much room!! that's good for nailing down the vibe but do you have any more specific prompts? 4: any particular things you usually enjoy? like pining, sick fics, any kind of ao3 tag really
hello, sorry for the slightly late reply! ^^;
for your first question: YES. I never really talk about them because I feel it may be too niche lol, but I love it! kazuseran is not one of my favourites really, but i’d still really enjoy it being included!
okay so I don’t really know what I was doing when I filled out that form, I wasn’t sure what to put down. SORRY ABOUT THAT. afterwards I realized I probably should have specified more 😭 anyway I think what I meant to say was that I don’t really like AUs. also I like lighthearted things, can have some angst and stuff, but nothing too dark? I think some tags i often like are hurt/comfort things, i do like sick fics, comedy/crack sometimes lol. (I’m a little picky about pining sometimes but I don’t mind a little of it!)
I think that’s all… thanks for asking, i really hope i answered it well!! sorry if my answers can be unclear, if you have any other questions feel free to ask!!

Things I love about Heiji and Shinichi (as someone who hasn't read much of the manga and is about halfway through the anime):
🔎 The way that Shinichi is instantly impressed by Heiji's deductive abilities. He respects Heiji's skill to such an extent that, solely out of concern for what will be discovered about him, he decides—unhesitatingly and while feeling deathly ill—to accompany the Detective of the West on a (seemingly non-murderous) case investigation that he pointedly had no interest in otherwise (Episode 48).
🔎 The way that Shinichi tells Heiji—the boy whose life has been so defined by comparisons to his father (and later to Shinichi himself), who is so insecure that he constructs unnecessary competitions in an effort to feel as though he's worth something—what essentially amounts to, "You don't have to prove yourself to me" (Episode 49). Despite the temporary antidote wearing off and making it a considerable effort to even remain standing, Shinichi is still sure to let Heiji know that there isn't any competition in detective work—that "[t]here's no winning, losing, above, or below when it comes to logic... After all, there's always only one truth."
🔎 The way that Heiji enters the series purely to find Shinichi, and the symbolic significance that can be read into how Heiji is, quite literally, the reason that Shinichi does in fact appear for the first time since being poisoned (Episodes 48-49). It's as if to say that Shinichi cannot keep hiding behind Conan when Heiji is present—that Shinichi cannot help but be himself, not the false persona he's created, when in the company of Heiji Hattori.
🔎 The way that Shinichi not only can be himself with Heiji but also feels safe being himself with Heiji, even early on, when he doesn't (consciously) want Heiji to know his true identity, so easily deducting with Heiji in their second meeting (Episodes 57-58) because he respects Heiji's abilities, trusts that Heiji can solve the case, and wants to do so beside him.
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Screenshots from Episode 57. Conan and Heiji stand outside in the dark. Conan talks to Heiji, who looks at him, saying, “But all the suspects were in the lodge... Could someone have put a time-activated detonator in the garage?” End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that Shinichi, regardless of his tsundere attitude, genuinely loves deducting with Heiji and makes this fact no mystery. He's full of smiles when they're working a case, absolutely ecstatic to share his findings with his partner, thrilled to bounce ideas off of someone he trusts to be on the same wavelength. From the way Conan looks adoringly up at Heiji in Episode 118 (and throws a literal tantrum and is sooooo grumpy when they're separated), to the way he eagerly calls out to Heiji that he's found what they're searching for in Episode 167, to the way he's so clearly looking forward to the prospect of comparing notes in Episode 174, to the way he smirks when they've both come to the same conclusion at once in Episode 263, to the way he grins and asks, "You got it too, right?" in Episode 382, there's the definite, undeniable understanding that Shinichi absolutely cherishes Heiji's company.
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Six screenshots. In the first image, from Episode 118, Conan walks with Heiji and Sakata, looking up adoringly at Heiji while smiling broadly. In the second image, from Episode 167, Conan shines a light on a small hole in a wall, saying with a wide grin, "I found it! Hattori, it's here!" In the third and fourth images, from Episode 174, Heiji asks, "Then shall we compare notes?," to which Conan smiles in response. In the fifth image, from Episode 263, Heiji and Conan stand out in the rain. While smiling and looking at Conan, Heiji says, "Now we know why the killer wore a special outfit that has a zipper." Conan smiles back. In the sixth image, from Episode 382, Conan smiles and says, "You got it too, right?" End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that Conan looks so content when revealing the full truth to Heiji (Episode 58). The way that letting Heiji in is such a comfort, a relief. The way that Shinichi is elated to have someone to confide in, to not have to hide from, who is his peer, not a mentor figure or a parent.
Tumblr media
[Image description: Screenshot from Episode 58. Conan and Heiji sit on a bus; Conan has told Heiji everything about how he’s really Shinichi and searching for more information about the organization that poisoned him. Conan has his hands behind his head and smiles. Heiji leans against the window and rests his face in his hand as he looks at Conan. End image description.]
🔎 The way that Heiji is adamant that children not be exposed to murder (Episode 48) but also doesn't belittle children, either. When trapped with a killer (Episodes 57-58), Heiji doesn't brush off Conan's insights or tell him that he's not allowed to speak; in fact, Heiji encourages Conan to share his thoughts prior to realizing that Conan is actually Shinichi. And Shinichi, who has consistently been discounted and not taken seriously because of what he looks like, relishes Heiji's consideration, momentarily forgetting his circumstances as he deducts without his usual façade. Heiji always recognizes the value in Shinichi's words—he goes so far as to suspect that they're true Sleeping Kogoro!—regardless of how the person speaking them appears.
🔎 The way that Heiji is so set on seeing Shinichi again—after meeting him all of once!—that he enters a Sherlock Holmes fan tour (Episodes 57-58), which required exemplary knowledge of Holmes to be selected, despite openly not being a Sherlock Holmes fan and preferring Ellery Queen... all for the self-admitted chance that he might find Shinichi there. Not only that, Heiji effortlessly rattles off various facts about Shinichi, making it abundantly clear that he's read plenty of Shinichi-focused interviews and reports.
Tumblr media
[Image description: Screenshot from Episode 57. Frowning and with his hand on his chin, Heiji thinks to himself, “Kudo ain’t here. I shouldn’t have come on this tour...” End image description.]
🔎 The way that Heiji notes in FUNimation's English dub, "When a guy's away from his girl, she's all he can think or talk about" (Episode 48), and the way that this sentiment near perfectly applies to his feelings about Shinichi, given that he gushes and talks about the Detective of the East so incessantly and with such reverence that Kazuha initially believes that Shinichi is a girl whom Heiji is in love with (Episode 118).
🔎 The way that Heiji's unabashed affection is so notable in this story, as characters here are typically embarrassed to admit their warm feelings for one another.
🔎 The way that their relationship is thus built on a kind of openness and honesty seldom seen in the franchise, something evident not only in Heiji's proud displays of emotion but also in Shinichi's vulnerability with Heiji. As soon as their third meeting (Episodes 77-78), Shinichi reveals to Heiji the tragic conclusion of one of his most emotionally devastating cases, “The Piano Sonata ‘Moonlight’ Murders" (Episode 11), wherein he couldn't stop the culprit from committing suicide. It's a trauma he explicitly feels unable to share with Ran, and it's likely that he hadn't spoken of it to anyone else aware of his identity at that point, either. But he feels safe letting Heiji in.
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Screenshots from Episode 78. Conan kneels on a table and looks inside a container while Heiji looks at him. Conan says, a very serious look on his face, “Say, Hattori. Have you ever killed someone?” End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that Heiji takes Shinichi's words then—"A detective who corners someone with logic, but lets them commit suicide, is no different from a murderer"—to heart, sustaining a bullet wound whilst successfully preventing a culprit from shooting themselves in the head (Episode 118). The way that Heiji so deeply values Shinichi and his insights. The way that Shinichi realizes the depth of Heiji's admiration and is profoundly affected.
🔎 The way that Shinichi so deeply values Heiji and his insights. The way that, in as soon as their second encounter (Episodes 57-58), Shinichi's nervous about Heiji uncovering his true identity, despite never feeling similarly about the actual police detectives with whom he'd worked dozens of cases at that point.
Tumblr media
[Image description: Screenshot from Episode 58. Conan looks up at Heiji, thinking to himself, “But it’s all over if he catches me during my explanation.” End image description.]
🔎 The way that Heiji's deduction suspecting Shinichi's favorite soccer player of murder enrages Conan (Episode 239), and the way he angrily declares that he'll prove Heiji wrong, signifying just how intensely Shinichi respects Heiji and his logic, because why else would Shinichi get so heated and determined to uncover the evidence that would render Heiji's deduction false?
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Screenshots from Episode 239. Conan, furiously angry, tells Heiji, "That's ridiculous! It's absolutely impossible!" Then, Heiji, with a surprised expression on his face, is shown beside Conan, and Conan continues, "And I'll prove it, just you wait!" End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that Shinichi thinks so highly of Heiji that, in his imagined future (OVA 9, "The Stranger From 10 Years Later"), Shinichi conceives of 26/27-year-old Heiji as a prominent, well-renowned detective with his own agency—who is so good at what he does and so attractive that he's nicknamed "The Lady-Killer of Naniwa."
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Screenshots from the 9th Detective Conan OVA, "The Stranger From 10 Years Later.” Conan (now an 11th grader just like Shinichi was) watches a news broadcast on the streets of Tokyo. It's an interview with an older Heiji Hattori, who smiles politely. The interviewer says, "I've heard that the young ladies have a certain nickname for Hattori-san... "The Lady-Killer of Naniwa." End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that they both respect each other but never fall into unhealthy idolizing, with Heiji not hesitating to call Shinichi out for his bias in the aforementioned Episode 239, with both willing to disagree and not unthinkingly believe anything the other says (see also Episode 174).
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Screenshots from Episode 174. In the first image, with his face shadowed by darkness, Heiji says, “This is very interesting.” In the second image, the full moon is shown, with clouds moving to let its light shine through. Heiji continues, “How unusual. Our deductions aren’t the same.” In the third image, Conan’s face is slightly lit by the moon. He says, with a smile, “Yes, this has only happened once when we first met.” End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that, with the help of their fathers, they both solve the same case while in middle school and are then too ashamed to meet because they feel the other is the better detective for seemingly solving the mystery on his own (Episode 490)... but they still smile fondly at the prospect of finding each other again one day.
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Screenshots from Episode 490. In the first image, with a fond smile on his face, Heiji thinks, "Well, even if I don't see him, if he's a detective..." In the second image, with a similarly fond smile on his face, Shinichi thinks, "We'll get to see each other one day on some mysterious stage." They are both outside at night, with snow falling around them. End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that the sponsor screen at the end of the episode (left sponsorless on streaming sites like Viu and Bilibili), which usually consists of a still or short looped animation, is instead a collection of clips from the case that looks like a Heishin fancam.
🔎 The way that the episode, focused on Heiji and Shinichi's relationship, is filled with traditionally romantic imagery, with cherry blossoms in the beginning and, of course, the snow.
🔎 The way that Heiji originally defines Shinichi as his rival but is repeatedly ecstatic to work with Shinichi, not against him. The way that Heiji loves to emphasize their similarities, bringing them closer together rather than farther apart (as pictured below in Episodes 117, 189, and 516), and the way that Shinichi, likewise, is delighted by the existence of a young detective just like him (Episode 490), even blushing when he first learns of Heiji in the manga's version of the story.
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Three screenshots. In the first image, from Episode 117, Heiji smiles while talking to Conan on the phone, saying, "Yeah, I bet! You and me are a lot alike! We cross paths before we even know it!" In the second image, from Episode 189, Heiji sits with Conan on Conan's hospital bed, holding a bouquet of flowers. Heiji says, "I was shot in the stomach, too. We've got things in common." In the third image, from Episode 516, Heiji smiles broadly while picturing Shinichi, thinking, "It's just as I thought! We're two of a kind, birds of a feather!" End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that Heiji gleefully describes himself as Shinichi's best friend rather than Shinichi's rival (Episodes 277, 521). The way that Heiji finds helping and being friendly with Shinichi so much more important than competing against him.
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Three screenshots. In the first two images, from Episode 277, Heiji smiles and blushes as he says, "This old man [Dr. Agasa] called me, saying that if I, your best friend, came, I could help you." In the third image, from Episode 521, Heiji smiles and blushes in the car as he tells Kogoro, who is driving, "Of course because I'm Shinichi's best friend." End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that Heiji engages in some of the silliest—and cutest—shenanigans so that Conan can participate in solving mysteries with him. Be it stuffing Conan in his jacket (Episode 118), lifting Conan up so that he can see evidence (Episodes 263, 278), or even sabotaging a good luck charm to make it so rain would cancel a field trip that'd keep Conan from a case (Episode 325, though, okay, maybe I don't like that example so much...), Heiji treasures working with Shinichi and is so eager to do whatever he can to ensure that his friend can freely do what he loves.
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Four screenshots. The first image, from Episode 118, shows Heiji unzipping his jacket, where Conan had been hiding. Conan gasps for breath and blushes. The second image, from Episode 263, depicts a rainy scene. Heiji holds up Conan so that Conan can see a photograph held by Inspector Otaki. The third image, from Episode 278, shows Heiji holding up Conan so that Conan can see a photograph held by Inspector Megure. Jodie, behind them, looks at the photograph, too. The fourth image, from Episode 325, shows a sunny boy doll meant to keep the rain away. Heiji’s hand reaches for the doll. End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that Shinichi asks Heiji for help.
🔎 The way that Shinichi Kudo, the guy who hides his trauma, who'll skip meals out of anxiety without ever admitting what's really on his mind, who forces smiles so that others won't worry about him, whose refusal to ask for help and rely on others is what created Conan in the first place, confides in Heiji. The way that Dr. Agasa, who has been more of a constant in Shinichi's life than his own parents, calls for Heiji, all the way out in Osaka, to help Shinichi—and more than once (Episodes 189, 277)!
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Screenshots from Episode 189. With a serious expression on his face, Heiji sits on Conan's hospital bed, holding a bouquet of flowers. He says, "Truth is, I got a call from an old guy named Agasa last night. He wanted to talk to me about you." Conan looks surprised at these words. End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that Agasa feels that Shinichi will not open up to anyone else. The way that, even if Shinichi (so far as I know) never explicitly refers to Heiji as his best friend as Heiji does for him, from how he must talk about Heiji, Agasa believes as much.
🔎 The way that Agasa is right. The way that Shinichi does open up to Heiji, especially in Episode 189, where he asks for advice—where he asks, regardless of his near-constant moralizing and strong sense of justice, what Heiji thinks is right. Where he asks what Heiji would do in his place.
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Two screenshots from Episode 189. In the first image, Conan, in his hospital bed with the bouquet of flowers that Heiji brought on the sheets, says, "Hattori, listen." In the second image, the camera pans out to show Heiji standing by his bed as Conan continues, "What would you do? What do you think is right?" End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that, though it looks amusing out of context because Conan's sitting on the toilet, Shinichi repeats the same question to Heiji hundreds of cases later (Episode 491)—"What would you do? If you were in my position?"—and how, in that case, he's looking for Heiji to supply the same answer that he's already decided for himself because he, too, finds comfort in their similarities. The way that Heiji's identical response then—that he'd "just go for it" regardless of the danger—assures Shinichi that he's making the correct choice even if you could argue that he really isn't.
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Screenshots from Episode 491. Conan sits on the toilet, talking to Heiji on the phone. He says, "What would you do? If you were in my position?" Heiji then answers, “Well, if it were me, I’d just go for it.” But then, with troubled expression on his face, he stammers, “I mean, no, I would...” With a smile, Conan says, “I’d do exactly what you would. I’ll pry as deep as I can into it. Until the curiosity within me dries out.” End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that Heiji is always so ready to help Shinichi, be it the little things like lifting him up or the bigger things like trying to give him peace of mind in regards to Ran (Episode 189). The way that Heiji directly says as much in Episode 278—"If any other suspicious persons show up, just call me! I'll run right over!" The way that, as the story progresses, Shinichi asks for Heiji's help without any prompting from anyone else (Episodes 345, 479). The way that Shinichi trusts that Heiji can help, not even bothering to think up a plan to get away and shrink back into Conan where he can't be seen in Episode 522 because he has complete faith in Heiji to handle it.
🔎 The way that Heiji's immediate response to Shinichi's request that he put his life on the line and disguise himself as Shinichi Kudo is to send an "OK" composed entirely out of heart emojis (Episode 345).
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Two screenshots. In the first image, from Episode 278, Heiji runs and says, "If any other suspicious persons show up, just call me! I'll run right over!" In the second image, from Episode 345, Conan looks at his phone, which has a message up that's just an "OK" composed out of pink heart emojis, which had been sent to him by Heiji. End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that the 33rd opening sequence, "Miss Mystery," so beautifully and perfectly encapsulates this aspect of Shinichi and Heiji's relationship. Conan readies himself to handle everything on his own, as he feels he must do, only for Heiji to rush in, without any hesitation, and break through the obstacles in Conan's path. And Conan accepts Heiji's help. More than that, he smiles at Heiji's help, because Heiji gives him strength.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: GIFs from OP 33, set to the song "Miss Mystery" by BREAKERZ. Conan runs only to stop before long, finding a wall of English text blocking his path. The wall includes the words "DNA," "POISON," "LOCKED ROOM," "ALIBI," "BLOOD TYPE," "ANAGRAM," "FINGERPRINTS," and "DYING MESSAGE," among others. Conan takes a step back and prepares to knock away the text, but Heiji arrives running. Conan looks in surprise as Heiji leaps into the wall and clears the path for him, knocking text away with his feet before landing. Heiji then turns to look at Conan behind him, smiling. After a moment of surprise, Conan returns the smile with one of his own. End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that Shinichi is truly so grateful to have Heiji in his life. The way that he's immensely frustrated when Heiji declines working a case with him and hangs up the phone (Episode 117). The way that he can't stop thinking about Heiji when his partner suddenly disappears from an investigation (Episode 174). The way that he doesn't want to carry out a deduction show alone when Heiji should be there (Episode 224). The way that he so earnestly and genuinely thanks Heiji for his help in Movie 13, The Raven Chaser.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Six screenshots. In the first image, from Episode 117, Heiji, talking to Conan on the phone, hangs up, saying, "Lemme know if you figure anything out! Good luck!" In the second image, also from Episode 117, Conan angrily throws down his phone, swearing, "Damn!" In the third image, from Episode 174, Conan sweats and thinks to himself, with a worried expression on his face, "What's happened to you, Hattori?" In the fourth image, from Episode 224, Conan sits behind Kogoro, preparing for a deduction show, and looks at his watch. He thinks, "Hattori, where are you? Why aren't you here? What're you doing?" In the fifth and six images, from Movie 13, The Raven Chaser, Conan talks to Heiji on the phone. He smiles kindly as he says, "Thank you, Hattori. For real." End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that they both care so much for one another that they have nigh-supernatural instincts about when the other is in danger. The way that Heiji is so haunted by a bad dream of Shinichi's death—which very nearly comes true—that he lends Conan his good luck charm (which then saves Shinichi's life) (Episode 118). The way that Conan instantly knows something is amiss when Heiji is thrown overboard a cruise ship, despite no one else noticing anything and, considering how deep he was in the ship, how he shouldn't have noticed anything himself (Episode 174).

[Image descriptions: Four screenshots. In the first image, from Episode 118, Heiji says, "I had a bad dream..." In the second image, also from Episode 118, Conan has his hand on his face in thought, while in the background, Heiji imagines Shinichi in pain, clutching a bloody wound on his chest. In the third image, from Episode 174, Conan sweats with a horrified expression on his face. In the fourth image, also from Episode 174, Conan asks Kogoro, "Hey, didn't you hear a strange water noise?" End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that Heiji always sees Shinichi as himself. The way that his aforementioned nightmare involves Shinichi, not Conan, even though it's Conan who's nearly killed (Episode 118). The way that Heiji describes Conan when asking about other investigators of a case (Episode 516) but pictures Shinichi in his mind (pictured way above). The way that he sees Shinichi in the place of Conan and has to rub his eyes to find reality again (OVA 2).
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Screenshots from OVA 2, “16 Suspects?!” Both wearing coats and scarves, Heiji stands next to Kazuha outside. She smiles, but Heiji looks as though he can’t believe what he’s seeing. It turns out that he’s seeing Kudo, who crouches next to Ran with a serious expression on his face. Heiji thinks, “Kudou!” He then rubs his eyes and sees reality: Conan standing beside Ran with his hands in his jacket pockets. End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that Heiji is arguably the catalyst to a more permanent APTX 4869 antidote, and thus, symbolically, the key to Shinichi's true self. Because of him, Shinichi is able to instruct Ai to drink the baigar/paikal/baijiu to escape from Pisco (Episode 177), which not only saves her life but also allows her to procure the drug data necessary to concoct more antidotes.
🔎 The way that Heiji is right by Shinichi's side practically every time that he's able to be himself. The way that the only movie in which Shinichi makes a genuine, non-flashback, non-Kid-in-disguise appearance, Movie 7, Crossroad in the Ancient Capital, features Conan purposefully making himself sick and taking an antidote for Heiji and Kazuha's sake.
🔎 The way that Conan thinks, "Thank you, Harley!" while holding a bottle of alcohol in FUNimation's English dub (Episode 50).
🔎 The way that they both want the best for each other and support one another. The way that Heiji encourages Shinichi to do the right thing when it comes to Ran (Episodes 189, 524). The way that Heiji celebrates Shinichi's successes (Episode 491). The way that Heiji cheers Shinichi up when the conclusion to a case depresses him to such an extent that everyone worries about his wellbeing (Episode 239). The way that the tension leaves Heiji when he sees a smile on his friend's face again.
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Six screenshots from Episode 239. In the first image, Conan looks sad, holding his face in his hand. Offscreen, Ran says, “Maybe Conan’s the same [as Shinichi] and he’ll start to hate soccer [because something disappointed him about it].” In the second image, Heiji tries to kick a soccer ball but drops it. In the third image, Conan says, “You’re lousy.” In the fourth image, Conan starts kicking the soccer ball himself, saying, “This is how you do it!” In the fifth image, Heiji smiles in relief. In the sixth image, Conan smiles as he kicks the soccer ball. End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that Shinichi attempts the same lifting of spirits for Heiji when Heiji's found himself angry and irritated for reasons he doesn't understand (Episode 406). The way that Shinichi is sincerely flustered that his pick-me-up effort fails.
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Two screenshots from Episode 406. In the first image, Conan holds on to Heiji with his hands over Heiji's eyes. Heiji, standing, grips Conan's arms, saying, "Hey! Stop it!" Conan, imitating Kazuha, says, "It's me!" In the second image, Conan sits on the ground and looks up, a surprised expression on his face. He blushes slightly as he thinks to himself, "Hey, Hattori." End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that, when Heiji admits his insecurities (Episode 479), Shinichi assures him that he's in the right without any teasing or sass. The way that, throughout that case, Shinichi is always by Heiji's side, even as Heiji gets insulted left and right. The way that Shinichi never follows Hakuba and openly defends his friend.
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Screenshots from Episode 479. With a serious expression on his face, Heiji asks, “Hey, Kudo. Am I wrong?” Conan answers with a smile, saying, “No. Not at all.” End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that there's an official illustration that depicts "Conan's Dream Vacation"... which involves Shinichi as himself playing beach volleyball with Heiji, Ran, and Kazuha.
Tumblr media
[Image description: An illustration that depicts Conan dreaming about playing beach volleyball with Heiji, Ran, and Kazuha as Shinichi. End image description.]
🔎 The way that the cover art for a movie guidebook promoting Movie 21, The Crimson Love Letter, shows Conan unabashedly enjoying a piggyback ride from Heiji.
Tumblr media
[Image description: The cover of a book that depicts Conan on Heiji's back in a piggyback ride as he walks down the street. They both smile broadly and share street food. The text advertises the book's contents, and there are two images of Momiji on the bottom left. End image description.]
🔎 The way that they're so in sync that they come to the same conclusions at the same time even when they're not directly working with each other (Episodes 58, 490).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Five screenshots. In the first three images, from Episode 58, Conan and Heiji make a realization at the same time, which is visually represented with a flash of light and their eyes widening. Heiji then thinks, with a smile, "That's it!" Afterwards, Conan thinks, with a smile, "Now I see!" In the fourth image, from Episode 490, a detective, on the phone with Shinichi, says, "He [Shinichi] is telling the exact same deduction as that boy [Heiji] with the exact same timing." In the fifth image, also from Episode 490, Shinichi and Heiji, in different locations, are shown reacting in surprise to this revelation. End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that they Vibe. The way that they finish each other's sentences and speak in unison (Episodes 142, 174). The way that they smile at each other when they've realized the same thing simultaneously or succeeded in their goal (Episodes 293, 327, 522). The way that it's repeatedly stated that they're such good friends (Episodes 191, 325) because they love being together and make that love no secret.
Tumblr media
[Image descriptions: Five screenshots. In the first image, from Episode 142, Conan and Heiji sit in a tree and smile at each other, saying, in unison, "The case is hereby closed." In the second image, from Episode 174, it's nighttime, and Conan and Heiji smile broadly at each other as they bring their faces close together and say, in unison, "A fake!" In the third image, from Episode 293, Heiji crouches so that he is eye level with Conan and smiles at him. Conan eagerly smiles back. In the fourth image, from Episode 327, Conan looks up at Heiji and smiles, and Heiji smiles back. In the fifth image, from Episode 522, Shinichi and Heiji sit in a car and smile at one another. End image descriptions.]
🔎 The way that they're both so good for each other—"that Heiji is someone Shinichi can trust and rely on when he’s forced to keep so many secrets, and that Shinichi is someone who respects and values Heiji when he’s so plagued by self-doubt."

also! see this as your free pass to talk about your favorite non-DCMK ship for the ask game! (my instincts tell me it's gonna be Klance I'm curious to see if I'm right xD)
IT'S DEFINITELY KLANCE, YEP. I didn’t talk much about them anymore but boy do they still have me in a chokehold. These boys own my soul tbh
I uh. Write much much more than I intended to lmao so, the rest goes under the cut!
Shipping them is actually kinda unexpected, you see, because while it's true that I started vld because one of my favorite writer start writing about them and I got curious, I actually went through the first 2 seasons completely not understanding where the ship is coming from lmao. I was more of a Shallura and Shatt shipper at that point, and I saw Klance as more of a friendly-rival characters sorts but probably won't go toward romantic route, kind of like Heishin for me. I am, however, already fell in love with Keith from the very start (this bit here is very important, alright?).
And then season 3 rolls around and I..... just fell headfirst into the Klance hell. Specifically that moment in front of Black when Lance goes to comfort Keith. I was just... so enamored by this moment, because see, up to that point Keith has been really insufferable, which is absolutely justified, but so is his teammates disdain toward him. And yet, out of all 5 people present there the one who goes up and comfort him is Lance. The rival. The boy who loudly complain whenever Keith as much as glance toward him. Like, they could've easily made Coran do that, with him being the oldest and (supposedly) the wisest among all of them. He did that with Lance, after all. Or Allura, maybe, because she's technically the leader of the pack and it make sense for her to try and comfort her subordinate. And yet, it was Lance who goes up and stand beside him.
And then the next eps when he just blindly goes after Lotor and literally endangering his teammates? Even I, the self-proclaimed Keith #1 fan, got a bit annoyed and feeling a bit like I want to kick some sense into him. And yet Lance is still the only one who's faithfully flying beside him, reigning him back when he's literally leaving his teammate behind, comforting him again and doesn't even try to antagonize him when he admits he went too farーlike bro. That "Keith, don't do this!" scene still haunts my dream, it was so good.
Those moment really cements how good Lance is for Keith, and that's ultimately what made me ship them in the first place. You see, one of my rule in shipping is that I will ship whoever made my favorite character happy. Like, this is kinda why I'm still a Naruhina shipper at heart because I love Hinata to death and I want her to have the man of her dream, despite how much I agree that Narusasu or even Narusaku is a league above them in term of a good couple. Like, I mostly just want to see my favorite character being happy, y'know? So yep. Those s3 moment show me how good Lance is to Keith, and that's how I sold my soul to the devil :'D
One other thing that really sent me is this specific characters trait of Keith and Lance. Keith, as an orphan who was left to fend off for himself for most of his childhood, ends up having too many love left to give. And Lance, the boy who have a bazillions family member, ends up already giving too many love in his life. And well, Keith will have more than enough love to shower Lance. Soulmate behavior, don't you think? 😆
It really doesn't help (or it does?) that I've always love an enemy/rival-to-lover trope since I know what shipping is. So in a way, I love Klance because I love Kaishin, ahah 🙈
I might've gotten too invested in answering this ajzjzkzk I'm so sorry it got a bit long, but I can't help itttt even after all these years they're still so precious to meeee ❤💙❤💙

Your favorite conan ships?
omg hello!!! thanks for asking!!!!
ummm i think my main ship is heishin, though i quite like shinran too (the angst is FUN). i think the main reason for shipping both these ships is that THERE IS CONTENT to be consumed (both canon & fanmade) yknow? and i quite like that!
i also enjoy thinking about how if matsuda was alive, him, sato, and takagi could be in a poly relationship. i find that fun & nice & i am interested to see how they manage to make that work!
ALSO. YUKIKO AND VERMOUTH. gosh THERE IS SO MUCH TO UNPACK HERE, and im interested in every single detail!!
(oh and i know you specifically asked about conan but akako and aoko from mk are *chefs kiss*. i love every single interaction they have had)
what about you anon!

Ah, sorry, I should've worded it better as "is there any way Hattori doesn't have better chemistry". I know Gosho is never going to make him an actual love interest, but narrative-wise he's almost the only one who Shinichi actually seems to want to spend the rest of his life with
-
To say he's the only one is disregarding the explicit want from him to be with Ran. But I do get what you're saying, that Heiji and Shinichi have some of the best chemistry that works juat as well in a romantic sense as it does the 'bros for life' Gosho is writing. In terms of pure writing, I think the relationships Shinichi has with Ran and Heiji are both written similarly. Especially when his 'something bad's happened' sense goes off for both.
Heiji has pretty much exactly as much chemistry with Shinichi as people read. Not something one needs to 'read into' to notice, nor is it subtle, so. Gosho not having any intention of making DC gay kinda helps with him being okay to show the two caring about each other as much as he does. Intimacy is easier to show when the person writing is doing so with a situation they're comfortable with, so even if it's just as friends, it's easy for people who want it to be more to enjoy it as well.
It's one of those things that makes me wonder why I see the phantom thief/detective gay ship represented more often than the loud, energetic detective/friendly, flair for the dramatic detective. If you're opting to not go with the baked in ship of ShinRan, HeiShin is a 'look to your left and boom, another ready-made ship that needs very little change aside from 'make 'em gay/queer''.

Short thoughts
Little points that I'd like to talk about my gift for the heishin spring exchange 2021
Drawing the flowers were literally the highlight of this
I am currently drawing a flowershop au for kaishin big bang as well - but that requires colouring and it's overwhelming to draw the whole parts of the plants when I just want to draw the flowers
So this was definitely a breather from it
ALSO I JUST GOT CSP AND M JUST SOBBING AT THE FLOWER BRUSHES LIKE PLEASE?!?!?!!
Tumblr media
POPPY, HYDRAGEA, COSMOS, WATER LILY, PLUM, LILY, OSES, MORNING GLORY, SUNFLOWERS
My efforts.... *sobs*
Tempted to redo my whole drawing with csp, esp with the potential of the textured brushes I saw. But later when I have time.
BACK TO HEISHIN GIFT
The idea of cornflowers were actually by my giftee (which they stated in the prompt) and when I looked it up, I immediately thought genius
It had all the painful lovable meanings:
Celibacy; Delicacy; Elegance; Hope; Hope in love; Love; Patience; Refinement; Single blessedness; Single wretchedness
But what stood out to me was the contradicting meaning of "single blessedness" and "single wretchedness"
This is common in flower language and is one of the many reasons why I cross check sites and languages - aka it's a pain
But it worked really well for the writing I was going for - the idea that this love of Heiji's hurts, and yet he wants to keep it. He's so close to Kudo, but yet he's so far from him.
Unrequited feelings are hidden feelings, but through the hanahaki disease they manifest.
So yes, I love the contradictions there.
Tumblr media
Hence I hope that whoever sees the comic realised what I've done here, Where I had the "Single blessedness; Single wretchedness" in a darker colour, with the dialogue "What a contradiction" right at the bottom. Because that's the idea of hanahaki for me for this ship.
Also hopefully, in Page 2 and Page 3 of the comic, you'd notice the link between the dialogue and the flowers.
Manifestation and Truth
Hiding and Bravery
Page 1 - yea... I can't do much about that. But it really fit Shinichi, where Heiji falls in love with how sharp Kudo's mind is, which is intellectual beauty in my opinion and understanding. Maybe I should have picked a flower about beginning?
But... ultimately the flowers are meant to represent Shinichi. That's more romantic and painful to see these flowers as it's what Heiji's fell for. It makes sense for these feelings who originate from these characteristics and qualities to mean them.
Alternatively, I went through the flower language book to make a list of flowers that are poisonous and are the negative and discouraging type. Because hanahaki is painful. I got past the letter A and I already have 6.
Page 5 was a struggle. It was a kiss scene. I was tempted to have flowers there, but with how flowers as shown means that Heiji is hurting, it doesn't feel fitting.
Plus the style of the comic is to be minimalistic. It's empty. It's a journal-esque style. Maybe I could have drawn Heiji's surprised expression? Added some colours?
Hmmm
Perhaps.
I had Kazuha in Page 2, just to clarify that this is going to be HeiShin. But also because I love her.
... Well it's actually a hint to how Shinichi knows and looks for Heiji. You didn't think Kazuha is going to sit there and watch her friend cough out blood did you?
Even if Heji asks her to keep a secret, she will hunt Kudo down. She ain't gonna lose her friend because of stubborness. His stubborness specifically.
And even if Heiji doesn't reveal, I'm pretty sure Kazuha will realise the candidate for the cause of his disease other than her. This "Kudo" person that Heiji won't stop talking about haha.
I really really like to consider other characters aside from the main ship we have in the comic.
Kazuha, assuming that she isn't aware of Heiji's feelings for Shinichi, after realising it she'll develop the same disease, but takes the surgery after Heiji's feelings are reciprocated.
Assuming that she is aware, she will still develop the hanahaki disease. And Heiji is aware of it. But he isn't able to reciprocate it. Even if Kazuha begs for him to. In the end, due to legal reasons (where Kazuha is not an adult yet and is still under her parents), she takes the surgery. By the way, I'm thinking that this happened definitely before Heiji develops hanahaki.
Ran... Ugh I want to punch Kudo tbh haha
Ran doesn't develop hanahaki. She realises that perhaps Kudo isn't the one for her. He still puts cases above her sometimes - as in even though he does care deeply about her and stuff, the relationship requires a lot of sacrifice on Ran's part. Especially as she begins to meet different people and see the world and explore it, she'll realise that seriously, Shinichi isn't the only fish in the sea.
Hence when Kudo realises his feelings, she lets go. Painful - because despite how sudden and sporadic they spend time together, he was really one of the few constants in her life.
... Seriously hoping no one hunts me down haha

Bet
For DCMK Emogust 2020 — 04.08: Bet. @dcmkemogust20xx  Here’s HeiShin brotp bc we cannot have enough.
Fandom: Detective Conan Pairing: Heiji & Shinichi Rating: G Genre/Tags: Friendship Summary: Shinichi wants to give a memorable best man speech.
Shinichi stood in front of the audience with a glass in his hand, and clinked on the glass three times. He chuckled to the audience. "Hattori did that at my wedding, so.. " he commented. "I figured I should do it too."
He cleared his throat and began.
Hey everyone,
I am here to talk about our man of the hour here, the Great Detective of the West, Hattori Heiji. We've been best friends for years, even though people have been expecting us to be rivals. Everyone says we’re polar opposites—I’m calm and he’s hot-blooded, where I’m water and he’s the fire—you name it, we’ve heard it. And it’s true, he’s like a flame that can never be extinguished.
He’s the best kind of guy to have around. Wherever I am, whatever I am doing, I know he will always have my back. Hattori’s not the best at saying what he’s feeling, but his actions speak for him more than enough. He’s not the type to sugarcoat things. He’s called me on my bullshit more often than one can imagine.
Shinichi could see Ran biting her bottom lips, and he shot her a smile before continuing.
Although he’s got quite an infamous temper—which I’m pretty sure everyone here knows—Hattori is generally a happy person. He’s been even happier after he started officially dating Kazuha-chan here, the person who is responsible for making up his impulse control.
And the world has a funny way of rewarding him, I’d like to think, because the universe gave him Kazuha-chan. I am a very logical person, but I'd go as far as saying that she is magical—she's a miracle. Without her, Hattori would be putting a lot more victims in hospitals, either with his katana or his voice alone.
People laughed at this, even Kazuha, and Shinichi felt more than a little accomplished.
I used to think that it would take a lot longer for him to successfully confess his lifelong love to her. Some of us here even had a pool going on. A friend of ours still has Hattori’s first declaration of love as her ringtone, to this day. When he finally made it happen, I was jealous of him, I’ll admit. His life’s complete as is.
Although, Ran and I would probably never be the way we are now if it wasn't for his endless teasing and pushing. We were married last year, and he was my best man, obviously. I remember looking at him and thinking: “God, I hope he doesn’t screw this up,” because Hattori has a knack for screwing things up,
Again, Shinichi heard the crowd laugh, and a soft chuckle involuntarily left his lips.
but he delivered perfectly. That’s just Hattori for you. He always wanted everything to be perfect.
Like how he had so many plans and backup plans for his confession back then—which to this day, I will never understand how you never even got the hint that he was about to confess to you, Kazuha-chan, because some of them were so obvious.
Like how he wrote and scrapped hundreds of speeches before settling with his best man speech for my wedding. He never said it, but I know he did. So I want to give a memorable best man speech too for the man of the hour..
Everyone’s eyes were on him. He drew in a shaky breath. He cannot mess this one up. Hattori would actually laugh out loud at him and hold it above his head forever.
He didn’t even ask me to be his best man—he just assumed that it was the most natural thing that nobody had to ask. I would deny this at first, but looking back I think I was more excited about their wedding than anyone was. Well, except maybe his mother, whom he said already had their temple booked since they were literally 5 years old.
I know, I know. I can’t believe that Hattori didn’t believe everyone saw it coming. It’s been frustrating, really. There’s this kind of pride that sticks up your ass when you painfully watch your best friend slowly realize his feelings, slowly confess his feelings, then slowly do it all over again, this last time with a ring. Unfortunately, I won’t have the opportunity to return the favor, so I guess this has to be my best man speech to him.
Shinichi lowered his gaze to his hand, where his ring was glistening, the very wedding ring that his best man helped choose. He paused to clench his eyes shut, pushing out the tears that had been threatening to spill.
Of course, when I got started on my speech, I expected him to be sitting next to Kazuha-chan, complaining about not being praised. Grinning, laughing, and cursing like he always does. We’ve had a running joke since we were in high school—we’d say “I bet you’re going down,” and “No I bet you’re going down first,” It’s never really an actual bet, but guess what Hattori?
Looks like you lost the bet, huh?
His voice caught in between his chuckles, and Shinichi heaved a deep breath as he moved on to say the next lines. It wasn't really a problem that tears blurred out his vision, because he did not have a paper on him anyway. He knew what he wanted to say.
Being happy is really hard right now, man. You’ve made so much difference in all our lives. I can literally hear your voice saying how much of a waste of our time to mourn something that’s already happened. But it feels awfully wrong right now. I lost my friend, the best kind of friend. I lost my brother.
His voice broke toward the end. He had to pause again,
I won’t even need to look for you when we see each other later. You’ll probably scream out my name before I even get there properly.
I’ll see you when I see you again, Hattori.
Rest easy.

Some people say that heiji's feelings for kazuha aren't genuine because he keeps making it about beating kudo rather than thinking about kazuha's feelings. They say he's only trying to confess to her to beat kudo, and not because he actually loves her. Some people even go as far as saying that heiji is using kazuha as a way to cover up feelings for shinichi, and that he's bothered by the shinran kiss because he likes shinichi (??). This is kind of bothering me so I wanted to hear your thoughts?
Ummm wtf?!!!!!!
First of all, Heiji obviously cares about Kazuha more than he cares about beating Shinichi when it comes to the confession! And he obviously has feelings for her, you can see the way he’s protective of her, blushes around her and cares about her, and literally fantasizes about her! He never once should any signs of having a crush or even being sexually attracted to Shinichi or any other man, so these people are tripping lmaoo.
Heiji is very competitive, but he would never ever confess to Kazuha just for the sake of competition, he’s only competing to give her the most memorable and amazing confession that she deserves, he knows that she deserves more than a confession on a bridge, doesn’t that show how much he loves her?!!!
What these people are saying is complete nonsense, and they’re probably Heishin shippers who desperately want the ship to be canon, but it’s clearly not canon and they should get over themselves. They can ship Heishin all they want, but they have to know that it’s not CANON AND IT WILL NEVER BE LMAO

Hi I love your dcmk fic so much!!! It's amazing how you portray the characters, especially akako AHAHHA it makes me laugh so much I love her xD usually dcmk fics neglect Aoko and akako and I'm glad they have these scenes so far! I became curious about you as a shipper, what's your favourite ship? Do you like canon pairings like kaiao or shinran or are you more of a gosho boy shipper xD
Hello!! Thank you for saying that, I haven’t really been feeling like I’ve included Aoko enough, but I enjoy the characters so I’m making sure to include them as much as possible.
As a shipper, well, I have trouble shipping kaiao and shinran because they just seem to have sibling relationships to me. Like, Gosho tries to make it romantic, but I just really prefer their relationships as platonic. People can ship what they like though.
With shipping things I could honestly ship anything tbh, though I’ve been more keyed towards Shinichi/Hakuba lately because of my fic. I really like heishin as well, and kazuha/ran. Akako and Aoko too, because uhh have you seen their interactions?? Aoko is very gay for Akako. Anything rare pair is generally good with me as well, I just find those dynamics that aren’t widely explored really interesting.
I mostly enjoy platonic relationships though and I have a burning need for Akako and Conan to be best buddies. I have a fic series I need to write at some point that is just like,, Conan accidentally befriends everyone Kaito knows. Can you imagine Kaito going over to the Blue Parrot and seeing Jii conversing with Conan, terrifying nightmare child, over the bar?

"Preferred characters/ships: Shinichi is my favorite character, though I love all of the Gosho boys and the other 3 are tied for a close second. That said all of my favorite ships feature Shinichi, with my favorites being KaiShin, HeiShin, HakuShin (all 3 tied for first) and ShinShi/CoAi (in second). I dont necessarily need a ship work though it would be nice. Honestly so long as it features my boy Shinichi as the main/featured character I'll be happy." nothing under prompts or unwanted ~C
Oh yeah, I really didn’t give you much to work with at all did I? Sorry about that. Well I don’t know what medium you plan to use, but I’ll try my best to give you something you can work with. Let’s see, I like soulmate AUs a lot, and fairy tale inspired AUs are really cute too. I also like A/B/O AUs as well. If you choose to do KaiShin specifically I love the “Shinichi is Pandora” AU. In terms of more holiday inspired stuff, I think kisses under the mistletoe are really cute and romantic. Um, what else? Uh, I like the dynamic of one character really liking Christmas stuff and loving the season and getting into the spirit of the holiday and the other being kind of a grump and not liking it/not being into it until their partner shows them the meaning of Christmas and what a nice holiday season is like, then they grow to love it because of them. I’m sorry, I’m not really great at coming up with things I want. I hope this helps at least a little bit. If you need some more stuff to work with just let me know and I’ll try to come up with some better prompts.

Vol. 32 : My heart bleeds
[ WARNING ! ]
This post will be a personal vent, so not everything you'll see here will be exactly canon. What I mean is that I'm giving my personal view and interpretation of the scene, so what Gosho Aoyama actually wanted to say may be different from what I saw in it. Don't get upset at me if you think I'm exxagerating or being too dramatic about this. It's not exactly a chapter analysis, more like a personal view of it.

So.
There'a a scene in this volume that makes my heart bleed. My heart as an HeiShin obsessed, my heart as a daughter and my heart as an abuse survivor.

This is horrible on so many levels I don't even know where to begin.
No, I don't care what he did it for. No, I don't care if we have no other clues about this theory.
This scene has setted in my head the convinction that Heizo is an abusive father and a horrible man.
What he did was not driven by anger, by the commotion of the moment. What he did was cold, conscious, and horrible.
He hurt him so much he had him fall on the ground and bleed. HE MADE HIM BLEED. I don't care what his intentions were, or if he did it with something else in mind.
He hit his son. So hard he fell and bleed. In front of other people, insulting and dismissing him.
This gesture was not just violent, but horribly humiliating. Being hit and called useless in front of other people, by your own father, is something that leaves scars in your heart. Trust me, I know what I'm saying.
And I'm not even being too dramatic because honestly, look at Heiji's face. Look at his eyes. It hurt him. It hurt him inside and outside. You can see it so clearly that even Kogoro, who usually is treated as the comic relief, was so heartbroken he tried to stop Heizo.
And in my opinion, if you can do this to your son once, you can do it again. And again. And again.
But, let's get to the HeiShin part, because this is what hurt me the most.
Shinichi did nothing.
I don't mean physically. With the body of a child he obviously couldn't. But he didn't react. He didn't panic, he didn't get angry, his eyes didn't widen, he didn't rush to Heiji, he did NOTHING.
This, this is the fucking face he makes.
Tumblr media
I know Shinichi doesn't love Heiji back, but THAT is not the face you make when a friend of yours gets hurt and humiliated publicly by his father like that.
And yes, you could say he's not good with feelings, you could say he was just surprised, but look at his face. Shinichi is not heartless. He might not be a genius with emotions but he has an heart. Why didn't it beat for Heiji, even if just a little bit?
Just imagine if someone did that to Ran. He would have fucking shouted at everyone, even in his child body.
But with Heiji he's cold and distant as with a stranger. And I hate it, and I cried real tears over it.
In the volume before, I was already pretty upset because when Heiji makes this expression while talking to him

This is the expression Conan makes.

Why.
I just don't get why.

With the DetCo fandom so small, I guess you could call HeiShin a rarepair for sure, yeah. I think as those are mainly ShinRan, KaiShin(is that the name for Kaito and Shinichi? No clue) and Coai to be the top ships (?) But throughout years and in and out popularity in the fandom altogether, people have acknowledged the cute pair and even if the content is old, there's still a wide range of HeiShin work out there! It's not an active ship currently from what I've seen and not too popular on Tumblr. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't think the DetCo fandom is small! The franchise has been going nearly 30 years for a reason, and on OtakuRepublic, you'll even find a whopping 68,672 in-stock doujinshi results. In comparison, My Hero Academia comes up with only 18,245. Heck, the Akam ship alone has 27,000+ hits.
It's just... maybe a bit of a quiet fandom in primarily English-speaking places. But I know there's loads of content out there! I just might not be able to understand it well or know where best to find it, since I'm not at all current with the story and only really got into the series about a year ago.
In any case, I hope I didn't come off as whiny in the post or anything! I'm a multishipper and enjoy many of the show's relationships. It just made me happy to see merch focusing on a pair I like that I maybe don't see merch of as much as other pairs I like. I feel weird calling Heishin a "rare pair" because I do think it gets a lot of love, but I feel like I do maybe see less of it?
I dunno! But you can bet I'll be spamming stuff about those two, and I love seeing others' work about them as well <3
