BY THE WAY!!!! fantastic news about the kittens. Mr. Seizures gave us a huge scare yesterday, and I really thought he wasn't going to make it. He was having fits minutes, and the moments, apart. We got him to our vet same-day, and he even had a fit on the way there, but was completely okay for the entire time we were AT the vet. Typical. It's not really clear what's wrong. Our vet gave us like 10 things that it *could* be, none that she's very sold on. Nothing fits perfectly. The best guess we have, and I can't stress enough that it's a Guess, is that because both of the kittens were very very dehydrated, and were in a trash can with some pizza and fast food trash, is that there was a salt toxicity problem. So, when he had access to water, he drank too much all at once and it all rushed towards the salt in his body, causing swelling, including his brain- which may have been pushing against his skull. If that was the case, he might have some brain damage now.. But it's been over 24 hours since we've seen him have a fit, and he's walking around like normal, and playing with his sister. Eating, drinking, purring, you name it. Anything could happen, but if things continue the way they're going, I'd like to think his fits are some kind of fluke, and he's over that hump in his life. He has an amazing personality, he's silky soft, and my hope is he's going to be someone's Special Boy once I'm able to rehome him (and his sister, I'll kill myself if they don't get adopted as a set)

Our vet affectionately nicknamed him "Twitch", so we're calling his sister "Chat" LMAO. And for this reason, we have this image:

yesterday when i was in bed falling asleep i got a call that the lab was about to literally explode. i didnt have time to get dressed, i could barely put on shoes and a coat before sprinting like a bat out of hell to the lab and open a valve to prevent the entire system from over pressurising and failing. girly pops i had so much adrenaline in my system on that drive and subsequent literal sprint into the lab i felt like i inhaled a kilo of high purity cocaine and i could hear my heartbeat for hours afterwards

#its hard to explain what actually happened in layman's terms but #the gist is i was running experiments at near 0K #and then i had to warm the system back up #and in that process the helium gas thermally expands over 1000 times #and we have two chambers with no safety relief valves #one of them was open but the other was not and that was the valve i had to drive over and open manually #good times i havent been that scared in a HAUGHT minute

I've been looking into hiking a lot with leon and it's honestly driving me up the walls how gentrified hiking is here in Austria. most of the nicer routes are overrun and/or have horribly expensive parking.

multi day hikes/short camping trips are impossible here if you're broke and have a dog because you need to reserve and pay to sleep in sheds in the alps (that don't allow dogs) and all forms of wild camping are illegal.

idk the realisation that all of the "hardcore" hikers sleep in little well temperatured huts that usually even offer food and drinks made me realise hiking like that is just another pay to play sport. i'll just keep crawling down the day trip mountains instead.

#that's not even touching on how no one can afford to live near the mountains anymore because it's all vacation homes for the ultra rich #in summer i can barely take leon to the river because there are so many biking tourists and none #of then know to ring when they drive up behind you #or wear helmets so if leon gets startled and jumps on their bike they are gonna crack their skulls open on the pavement #i want to go and be out in nature and i hate how it costs so much and sucks so hard

my trials as possibly the one singular person who cares about the larger worldbuilding lore of the riordanverse is figuring out what the difference between harpies, sirens, and bird nymphs (from Artemis' retinue) are. what are the distinctions between these bird women.

#pjo #riordanverse #anyways my current distinction is that harpies are like. the most bird and bird nymphs are the least bird #sirens im going with the top half is almost totally human and then bottom half is all bird like a bird woman centaur type situation #cause thats a common interpretation in statues and some ancient art and that feels nicely distinct from harpies #with harpies being like. basically all bird with a human face usually #except i have to also give them weird hands incorporated into their wings #cause pjo canonically they can do tasks that require opposable thumbs. like DRIVING apparently #im sort of splitting the difference by having there be multiple variants of harpies in varying levels of anthro #so like Ella is a lot more humanoid than some other harpies for instance #and then bird nymphs are basically near entirely human but with just bird legs/maybe tail and maybe wings somewhere (back / head / or arms)
