there's something to be said about gale telling peeta that katniss will choose the person she can't survive without - a sentiment that katniss notices lacks any mention of love or comfort or affection, only partnership and practicality. because survival is the basis of gale and katniss's relationship - their relationship is the product of an oppressive regime where so many people starve and die and suffer. they built a partnership out of pragmatic necessity - friendship and affection and yes, even love, did spring from that, but nevertheless, survival was the foundation for them, and the fact that the majority of their dynamic is spent in the woods and this is the only place gale sees her happy is symbolic of that.
but her relationship with peeta is extremely different. he gives her laughter and comfort and joy no matter where they are. he balances out the temperamental and volatile nature (a characteristic she shares with gale as a result of their conditions) with peacefulness and an appreciation for beauty and goodness. they have a trust and camaraderie and friendship that extends far beyond the need for survival, a bond that connects them beyond merely the need to stay alive and protect their loved ones. it is with peeta that she truly lives and laughs and loves and betters herself. peeta notices and brings out the most wonderful parts of her cold, dispassionate exterior (mockingjay, suzanne collins), gives her an appreciation for beauty in life (dandelion in the spring, the pearl on the beach, etc). he's the calmness and peacefulness that she needs to truly live and feel free and safe, while gale is violence and storms and outbursts (which she may agree with, but his tendencies to choose violence don't satisfy katniss's emotional needs in a relationship like peeta does).
to gale and katniss, love and relationships and friendships and human connection come second to practical concerns and the mere desire to simply not die. for peeta and katniss, love and life are about far more than just survival, which is why they share an emotionally charged connection that's stronger than what gale and katniss have.

honestly the most disappointing thing is the hunger games is katniss ending up with peeta. and i dont mean like omg she should have ended with gale. no. she should end alone. in peace. none of the boys deserved her. she deserved a peaceful, happy life. i ship katniss with herself.

Does anyone else ever notice how Gale is sometimes depicted in Hunger Games stories as an abusive jerk to Katniss or a controlling manipulative bastard(get real people, like she would let him) OR a jealous prick who sets out intentionally to sabotage her relationship with Peeta? Just to name a few.
Why? To justify Everlark. (Luckily lots of Everlark stories don’t actually do this but I still see it and it’s irritating hence this rant)
Gale is actually written OOC a lot just so people can claim that Katniss belongs with Peeta who is apparently so perfect. And I hate it. That’s right up there with (likely) these same people who completely ignore the fact that Peeta manipulated Katniss into a relationship with him prior to the 74th Games during the interviews. (As I said in an earlier post too, the fact that Peeta kept pressuring her after the rebellion to have kids until she gave in just… that bothers me. But I digress.)
Yes, his feelings were probably genuine and yes, Haymitch also played a role in this but it was honestly a d*ck move for him to pull especially since neither of them told her this is what was gonna happen. So she faked it through the 74th Games. And Snow made her continue after while forcing Gale into the role of her cousin instead, something that neither Gale or Katniss liked, as it made them uncomfortable.
I feel that she was with Peeta at the end because she needed hope and he was almost like another Prim for her. Someone she needed to protect. But what happens once she feels like she can stand on her own again? And don’t even get me started on how wildly Gale’s characterization veers into left field upon arrival at District 13. That whole bit made little to no sense to me. Then there’s the end where Collins writes him off by “he goes to District 2 and no one sees him again”. Really.
Everyone in Twelve also probably believed that Everthorne was endgame as the two were seen constantly together and obviously cared about the other and their families very much. Until the reaping happened. As I said before, Katniss’s true love is her sister Prim but Peeta ultimately was Snow’s choice for her. Katniss’s choice was Gale and she even said so in Catching Fire. “Gale is mine and I am his. Anything else is unthinkable”.
So I hate that Suzanne Collins ultimately didn’t have the guts to follow through with that.

Okay I want to talk about another thing.
Specific blog who like Galeniss but don't always blogging about thg.
You know what I mean, right?
They literally said many times that they 'love' Galeniss. They said that anything can't change their mind.
But why, for the love of God, there is always anon ask who want to debate with them?
If these anons are real Everlark or Katniss Peeta fans. Please stop!
I hate when I'm going to specific tag, the timeline is flooded with anti tag post.
Please. Don't we have enough drama in 2012-15 already?
This is 2022, there is BLOCK feature. Use it people, please.
There is Do Not Interact rules in fandom life.
Or maybe like another commenter said, that they are still young and immature.
I know mature and sensible fan don't do this.
Thank you if you posting this. I hope whoever reading this, maybe you can also promote more peace in thg fandom life ❤
MJ
I've seen that and yea. I feel like most of those are newer, younger fandom members who have not learned some of the unspoken rules around just avoiding what bothers you, blocking if necessary.
While there is no excuse to be an ass in someones askbox like they are, I remember my first few years in a fandom WAS learning that stuff. In my experience, they'll stop when they realize going after people isn't making their time interacting with fandom any more fun. It's not alright and they deserve get any backlash they get from sending anons trying to debate and start fights, the behavior screams to me someone still learning.
Exactly! For me, I obviously don't do any anon sending with the intention of fighting and encourage blocking as much as I can as well as allowing people to explore THG story whatever way they want. That's all that CAN be done and hopefully, it brings a more calm and peaceful fandom experience for everyone.

is it just me or has katniss’s attraction to gale always been based on how he protects her sister? this isn’t to invalidate galeniss shippers or the ship, because gale and katniss obviously care about each other, but from the first few chapters in the book katniss stressed that their was nothing romantic between her and gale, and that he bore enough resemblance to her to be her cousin, which sort of makes the ship a turn off.
gale said that katniss would choose whoever she couldn’t survive without, but that feels like an inaccurate assessment. katniss’s character has always been driven by her love for prim, so it would make sense she’d choose the person who could best support her sister, which was why she seemed to gravitate toward gale in mockingjay, especially as peeta was out of commission. gale himself even said, after prim’s death, that his advantage to katniss’s heart was how he took care of her family. prim’s death is not gale’s fault - he may have built the bomb, but murdering prim was never his intention, only coin’s. however, even though he was once her best friend, katniss would forever be traumatized by the loss of her sister and she’d always associate that loss with gale, whether he was the cause of that loss or not.
after the events of the first book, the main connection that gale and katniss had was prim. once she died, that connection severed, and katniss chose peeta.

Hi! I'm sorry if this is overstepping but I just saw a meta post talking about how Gale not being with Katniss was a good thing and how it was better for everything in the long run. If you'd like to read it, it might help you to understand why so many people see Gale as not being right for Katniss and how the story never intended for them to be endgame. I know you really like Gale and Katniss together, but for peace in the fandom, you should see the other side.
Maybe you have good intentions, but I'm sorry, I have no interest in reading something like that. I've heard it all for years, I know all the arguments people make as to why they don't want to see Gale and Katniss together, and literally could not care less about some anti-galeniss bullshit in a new package. I ship Gale and Katniss, I think Gale and Katniss loved each other romantically, and I think that they would have been the best for each other in the long run, and I consider their relationship to be one of the most meaningful ones, if not very close to being the superior one in the hunger games. Please stop coming to me and trying to engage me in things I really have no interest in.    .

About
Hi! My name is Danielle.
Fandoms:
Wednesday: WENCLAIR. Wednesday is my weird daughter whom I love. Lesbian Enid truther. I also enjoy Tyler as a character but in a villain kind of way. Do not interact if you’re a Percy Hynes White defender.
Fear Street: The movie trilogy that got me to look past my fear of horror and watch it for the lesbians. Sameena and the tragic sibling relationship of Cindy and Ziggy have my heart.
Killing Eve: Villaneve supremacist. Forever bitter about what happened to them and this show. Fuck Laura Neal and Sally Woodward Gentle and their bullshit homophobic narrative.
Shameless USA: Not gonna lie i’m only still here for Gallavich and Mickey Milkovich lol. If you’re looking for someone who still loves the show as a whole I might be the wrong blog for you. There are other characters and relationships that I enjoy and I will talk about them occasionally but i’m under the opinion that the show stopped being good after S4.
Avatar: The Last Airbender: I ship Zutara hardcore but I love or at least like pretty much all the characters on the show. It’s my favorite show from my childhood.
Star Wars: I don’t blog as much about this as I once did and that’s because the sequel trilogy killed a lot of my enthusiasm but it will still pop up occasionally. With the exception of TFA I hate the sequel trilogy and Kylo Ren, so slight warning there lol. Original trilogy lover with a soft spot for the prequels. Luke Skywalker stan.
The Hunger Games: Recently fell back into my thg obsession. Peeta and Katniss own my soul, both as individual characters and as a ship. Katniss Everdeen started my love for grumpy, stoic female characters. My other faves include Finnick, Johanna, and Haymitch. I do not like galeniss as a romantic ship but I’m also a Gale apologist. Mockingjay anti. THG deserved a better final book.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: Catradora and Glimbow are my loves. Glimmadora stans are only allowed to interact if they’re normal.
Interactive fiction: Recently got into this stuff. So far my faves are The Wayhaven Chronicles, The Night Market, and the Keeper of the Sun and Moon trilogy. Ava du Mortain, Specialist Agent Morgan, Belladonna Malady, Astrid Adtaz, and Seraphina Delacroix are my loves.
Other fandoms: Arcane, Lucifer, Black Sails, Euphoria, Reign, Life is Strange, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Stranger Things

The hunger games!
my favorite female character: This is not going to surprise a lot of my readers, but Johanna Mason. I can empathize when the world is rough on you, you’re rough on the world and those around you. However, I think she still deep down does care for people.
my favorite male character: Haymitch Abernathy, reluctant pseudo-dad and eventual grandfather to Katniss and Peeta’s kids. I loved a person who tries really hard to show like they don’t care, but then you know they really do. Also, he’s one of the few that I liked the movie version of.
my favorite book/season/etc-Catching Fire, so much Everlark kissing...and train sleeping...and beach scene...just give it all to mama.
my favorite episode part: You love me, real or not real...and uh toastbabies...but also Everlark cave time
my favorite cast member: Jennifer Lawrence, such a goofball, but I also have to say Woody Harrelson and Liam Hemsworth interviewing together made me like them as a duo.
my favorite ship: Everlark, because if you can last through a rebellion and grow together...and love each other...just praise hands
a character I’d die defending: Peeta, though Katniss has dibs and second to that, Annie, because trauma is not easy to get through but she did, even without Finnick.
a character I just can’t sympathize with: Oh you know...Gale or Mrs. Mellark, though her character wasn’t developed enough. However, Gale’s was and...
a character I grew to love: Effie Trinket, God love her, and thank goodness for Elizabeth Banks for giving her life.
my anti otp: Is this like notp? Galeniss. Other than that, you know I’m all about odd pairings.
give me a show/movie/fandom and I’ll tell you

Hi! I'd just like to ask if you're still active in the THG fandom? I'm a new fan, 8 years late but still. I'm looking for THG blogs here but when I search the tags almost all meta I see is anti-Gale. I don't like Gale that much but I can't stand the bashing of his character. I read one of your metas and wondering if you could give me a list of THG blogs to follow? If not, I understand! It has been 8 years lol. Thank you!!!
Hey! Welcome to the THG fandom! This is still imo one of the best I've personally experienced. I'm not as active now, more like dormant and following other fandoms. If discussion pops up I like to engage. I am solidly pro-Gale. I'm not a Galeniss shipper BUT I really love Gale and Katniss's friendship. I think Gale has an interesting journey throughout the series and he deserves a lot more respect than he generally gets. off the top of my head I think @igsy-blog @arabeth-thea @hawthornhedge @porchwood @rosefyrefyre @randomnoteforfuturereference are a handful who had interesting discussions and takes re Gale. Not all are active but you can search tags for content. Don't be shy to engage/reblog oldddd stuff. New reblogs are fun!
Thanks for reaching out and happy hunting.
P.S. if anyone has other not-anti-Gale blogs to add (including their own, even old ones) please reblog and tag them. thanks!!

001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my: The Hunger Games!
Ooooh, we’re going to disagree on this a lot. I already know it. To preface: i haven’t been an active member in this fandom for years and my tastes have changed a lot, but I haven’t gone back to reread or reevaluate my opinions on these. SO
Favorite character: Gale. I think he still is. I was a sucker for the angsty boys when I was 13. So nostalgia.
Least Favorite character: Snow. Totally disagree that Coin was worse. She was bad, but Snow literally sent kids to die for funsies. But also maybe Caesar Flickerman. He’s complicit! All the Capitolites are, but like. He gets a pass for trying to make the tributes comfortable, but NO. IT’S HIS JOB. To make them seem as cool for people to BET ON THEM. He’s a prick and I hate him and I hate that I kind of still like him.
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Everlark. Galeniss (sucker for best friends to lovers, man.) Gadge. Johanna/Gale. And of course Finnick./Annie
Character I find most attractive: Finnick of course. Or Gale,
Character I would marry: Peeta. Look, I love my angsty kids, but I need some light in my life.
Character I would be best friends with: Hopefully Finnick. But probably Peeta or Prim.
a random thought: I wish we saw more of the Capitol’s opinions of the hunger games. I refuse to believe everyone was on board. I’m sure it was mainly those that were richest to capitalize on. I’m sure some thought it was barbaric. I’m sure many disagreed but were also like “meh”. I WANNA SEE THAT REBELLION.
An unpopular opinion: Fuck Katniss’ stylists. They’re nice, sure, but not good. They sent kids to die. Fuck them. Objectively, do I think they should have tortured and treated like they were? No, I’m very much anti-police, reform the prison system, treat people with humanity. But also? Fuck them.
My Canon OTP: Finnick/Annie
My Non-canon OTP: Maybe Gale/Madge. It’s pretty cute.
Most Badass Character: Johanna Mason
Most Epic Villain: Snow. Fuck him.
Pairing I am not a fan of: Haymitch/Effie. I’m so conflicted about people in the capitol. Because she’s likable, but also, fuuuuuuuck her. At least there’s character growth, though.
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): Finnick and Annie man. Whyyyyyyy?
Favourite Friendship: Gale and Katniss
Character I most identify with: Maybe Peeta in that he tries his best to be good. But also with Gale in his “fuck the capitol”. Because seriously. Fuck them.
Character I wish I could be: No one really. I wish I had Katniss’ badassery without like, everything else
Thanks for the ask!

HOLLYN CAN WE KEEP TALKING ABOUT KATPEE I WANT SOME FAN RAGE RIGHT NOW
tbh i'm not sure what else i can say about them!
idk bc the way the whole story is framed is really sad, bc these children are the figureheads of the revolution but they are far from the leaders of it. every single thing that happens to them is almost entirely out of their control, and when they try to take control things just get worse, and that's part of the tragedy of the series. i feel like Peeta's guilt-tripping is an unnecessary addition to that tragedy, because it puts blame on Katniss for his crush on her. Katniss can't help that he likes her, and she can't help that she doesn't like him back romantically. so Peeta being all righteously indignant about it (and everybody else in the narrative supporting him) is really upsetting.
Gale is marginally better, because like I said earlier -- he has other goals beyond Katniss. If Peeta wants Katniss to be his Dream Girl From The Other Side of the Tracks(tm), then Gale wants Katniss to be his Righteous Second-in-Command. He likes her romantically, but above that he wants her to be his fellow rebel who tears down the old order.
but this still doesn't work, because that's not what Katniss wants.
Katniss has an unspeakable amount of empathy for people she perceives to be hers -- her sister, her mother, her childhood friend Gale, her neighbors, her ally Rue, eventually her fellow victor Peeta. Later on she begins to really ache for the people she sees as being in the same boat as her, the other Districts with all their downtrodden. Katniss is a protector, when you strip her down to her very core she is a survivor and she is a protector. but she's not a rebel. Katniss believes in keeping your head down and looking out for your own people. shit happens and you have to deal with it, you have to be ruthless in defending the things you love but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to go out and make huge changes to the status quo. it's only when the Capitol starts targeting what is Hers (capitalization intended HERS HERS 'THIS IS KATNISS'S DO NOT TOUCH' STAMPED ALL ACROSS IT BECAUSE IT IS HERS) that she begins to rebel. and even then, it's usually bc greater powers are forcing her hand.
they called her the Mockingjay and made her an icon but Katniss just wanted to be a random nobody. she just wanted to be safe. she wanted her family to be safe. she didn't have Gale's hope for a better future or his drive to create that future. she wasn't blinded to the issues and complacent the way Peeta was. she knew shit was fucked up, but the fantastic beautiful morally grey anti-hero thing about Katniss Everdeen is that she didn't want to go out and change things. She didn't want to be some amazing hero. she wanted to be left the fuck alone, and the entire series was just her being completely disgruntled about all these assholes and their stupid fucking revolution.
