(tw for mention of fictional sexual assault/harassment, nongraphic)
hi! you seem like a thoughtful and levelheaded person and as a dean hater i really appreciate all the time and energy you put into fighting the good fight against his stans, i know it must be exhausting but your posts and takes are such a relief for someone like me who is exposed to dean and d*stiel apologism constantly. so i wanted to start by thanking you for that!
if you don’t mind, though, i’d be really interested to understand why you are antid*stiel due to dean being abusive, but not antim*gstiel considering meg is a repeat perpetrator of sexual abuse (she sexually assaulted sam, jo, and dean, and forcibly kissed cas without his consent). whether or not she came to love cas in earnest at some point feels absolutely irrelevant to that regardless of any redemption attempts, just like how dean is still a pedophile even when he hasn’t displayed that trait onscreen in seasons.
i recognise that cas did kiss meg back (or at least understood he “should” do so, based on the tv he’d just watched) but to me it doesn’t change the fact that the kiss was forced to begin with (making it at least sexual harassment?), nor does it change the fact that meg has sexual assaulted others, others who did not reciprocate her actions on any level, making her a sexual predator in general.
furthermore, not that it holds a candle to her assaulting people, but meg also tried to manipulate cas into a tool and personal shield while he was mentally unwell (in season 7, and she outright admitted she was doing this), and has also made homophobic comments (directly to cas, even, as she refers to him as a pansy in season 5. i know homophobia is funny to most of tumblr and many would laugh at “pansy” or find it nonserious the same way they make “fruit” jokes and such but i don’t really find it funny at all. it was a demeaning, derogatory term used against a cas in a demeaning, derogatory way). the reason i mention these things is that dean also tries to manipulate and use cas like a tool and is homophobic as well (i can’t remember if he’s every homophobic directly to cas though, unlike meg). these are criticisms you’ve frequently cited against dean but not against meg, despite being true for both.
i’m not trying to come down extra hard on a female character either, and i know meg does get a lot of misogyny from the fandom in other ways, but i can’t help that she makes me just as uncomfortable as dean from her behaviour AND from the way the fandom seems to ignore it, particularly her sexually predator behaviour. so i guess im curious why m*gstiel doesn’t bother you as much as d*stiel, if at all, considering that dean and meg would both be categorically unsafe partners for cas.
i’m not saying you have to stop liking meg either, because there are of course so many charming and beloved spn characters who have done absolutely horrible things. im just curious what your thoughts are in terms of forgiving a character like meg vs forgiving a character like dean i guess! (just imo i think rowena is a good comparison, since she admitted her faults/wrongdoing, expressed regret, attempted to fix it, and genuinely strived to better herself as a person. meg didn’t do those things at all, so i guess that’s where my personal line is. no judgement though!)
Honestly, with Meg less present in the series and fandom than Dean, I don’t have much memory of her doing most of those things. I believe I have mentioned before that I have a distaste for the fact that they give Meg a redemption arc despite the fact that she did in fact sexually assault Sam, though I didn’t remember that her kiss to Cas was similar. What I remembered from the canon was Cas showing the same interest in her that she had in him, but I haven’t looked much deeper into it outside of that since it doesn’t really get the same focus or the same level of abuse apologia. It’s possible I overlooked it because of the fact that she was portrayed as a villain in the canon rather than woobified, so it felt like the topic wasn’t brushed under the rug quite so much? And it’s easy to assume that a redemption arc = better behavior in all areas… But much of this occurs post-redemption, and it does ring a bell, so I’m certain you’re right on all counts.
She is interesting as a villain and/or morally grey character, but… she sounds like just another person in Cas’ life who used and abused him, much like Dagon was to Kelly.

When you love chocolate, it's hard to find a replacement with the same flavor and mouth-feel, right? Enter carob. Not chocolate, not really. But a good place to start. In fact, there are plenty of times when I choose carob instead. Why? Unlike chocolate, carob is naturally sweet, low in fat, high in fiber, has calcium, and most importantly to me, no caffeine. And because chocolate is linked to migraines and caffeine-sensitivity for some people, carob definitely has its advantages. Carob comes from the pod of a tree that grows along the Mediterranean Sea. The pod contains a sweet, edible pulp. Once dried and roasted, the pulp is ground into a powder called carob flour (but more commonly referred to as "carob powder"). It's similar to cocoa powder in color and can be substituted one-for-one in recipes, but carob is unique with its own special flavor and texture. If you've never tried carob, you're in for a treat. It's sweet, mild and packed with pectin, a soluble fiber. Traditionally, it was used to soothe an upset stomach.

Nutritional characterization of carobs and traditional carob products
Carob fruits are characterized by high sugar content (48%–56%) (mainly sucrose, glucose, and fructose), 3%–4% protein, a low‐fat content (0.2%–0.6%), low content of alkaloids, and high content of dietary fibers, especially in the seeds. Specifically, the pulp is composed of sugars, polyphenols (e.g., tannins, flavonoids, phenolic acids), and minerals (e.g. K, Ca, Mg, Na, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn), whereas the seed contains proteins, dietary fibers, polyphenols, and minerals and is free of gluten.
Carob powder is a valuable source of vitamins E, D, C, Niacin, B6, and folic acid; vitamins A, B2, and B12 are provided in lower levels. Carob powder oil is composed of 17 fatty acids, mainly oleic, linoleic, palmitic, and stearic acid at 40.45%, 23.19%, 11.01%, and 3.08%, respectively (Youssef, El‐Manfaloty, & Ali, 2013). A number of cyclitols are also present in carob beans. The major cyclitol is D‐pinitol (3‐O‐methyl‐D‐chiro‐inositol) with multiple health benefits.
The endosperm of the seed contains the water‐soluble mucus, known as locust bean gum (LBG), which is a polysaccharide (galactomannan) consisting of 16%–20% D‐galactose and 80%–84% D‐mannose. It is created from seed processing and is a natural additive (E410) (Salinas, Carbas, Brites, & Puppo, 2015). It is widely used in the food industry as thickener, stabilizer, and gelling or dispersing agent, and its labeling is compulsory. LBG has many applications in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, film emulsions, paints, polishes, ceramics, and adhesives.
Many studies have shown that carobs and their products can promote human health and help prevent specific chronic diseases. In particular, they show antiproliferative and apoptotic activity against cancer cells, they are suggested to treat diarrhea symptoms, and they present antihyperlipidemia and antidiabetic effects due to their high antioxidants, polyphenols, and high content in fibers. Therefore, they are considered ideal food for people with diabetes (Youssef et al., 2013). Carob flour (from carob seeds) is used to manufacture dietetic products and products for celiac patients (gluten‐free products).
Carob is an indigenous drought‐ and temperature‐tolerant tree cultivated in Cyprus for centuries. In the past, it significantly benefited the agricultural economy of the island. It was widely known as the “black gold” of Cyprus. In recent years, carob's health benefits and nutritional value are being highlighted and therefore traditional carob‐based food products end up in the market.

S8 Deleted Scenes
And the season 8 deleted scenes just broke my heart and pissed me off all over again, so for the two to come out together. Gah. Those hurt so bad. And Sansa killing a wight to save Missandei, come on. They should have left that in if they wanted their Stark baby to be the hero they kept trying to shove down our throats. As much as this season made me hate show!Sansa I am torn between being glad they left it out and mad that they did. I felt it was out of character for her to sit there and do nothing when a younger version of her gave so much comfort to others during Blackwater. I get she felt confident Stannis wouldn’t hurt her and that the AotD is different but she still didn’t behave in a way worthy of a queen.
And then the scenes that bring Dany’s loneliness even more to the fore... the stage direction about how she can’t remember a time she had ever felt so alone. Kill me. Lol
And “Is that all I am to you? Your queen?” And Jon says “NO”?? SHE IS MORE TO HIM?? Then take care of her you COWARD. AND DANY, MY POOR BABY SAYS “It disgusts you.” after SHE ends the kiss. My heart. My heart. I love that it confirmed Jon still loves her. That he loved her ever and not just in the moment he kills her. In the description of his feelings it doesn’t even say that he is disgusted but he is and acts that way???? So conflicting directions geesh.
But yes to sum up my heart hurts again and just when I was starting to see D&D as two idiots who don’t know their asses from their elbows and to pity their arrogance and ignorance I hate them again.

Are we supposed to ignore all the good things Daenerys did and how her death is going to unravel them? The Dothraki are going to go right back to sacking cities, taking slaves, raping women. Dragon’s Bay is going to be returned to Slavers Bay. All the men, women and children Dany freed are going to have their freedom ripped away and be shoved right back into wearing collars and shackles. The peaceful islands of Essos will be raided for little boys to turn them into Unsullied. All those years of war, heartache and putting off her one goal to save those innocents was for nothing.

When i talk about ASoIaF and GoT i think people mistake criticizing the writing or direction that the show-runners took as me criticizing a character as a whole. These are two different things.
