Are there any mangas or anime you really enjoy?
Yes!!! :D here are just a few I especially love:
✧ Summertime Render - I LOVE THIS ANIME/MANGA OMG...... I cannot hype it enough. The plot and its twists had me at the edge of my seat throughout. All of the characters have such strong personalities, the villains are really well done, the mystery and action are executed wonderfully, the pacing is great, the setting is amazing, the ost scratches my brain!!! In short, everything about this series is 10/10 for me.
✧ Great Pretender - another series I love to pieces! The backgrounds are so aesthetically pleasing,,, uuuwaaaa. The characters are so memorable, and the plots for each individual con are amazing. I'm left breathless every time because somehow the stakes just keep raising. It's so good!!!!! The opening song is also such a banger?!?!!??!! orz I could listen to it forever.
✧ THEO by Aono Nachi - it's such a cute BL. 🥺 I loved the dynamic between Theo and Rei. Maybe it's because I'm weak to master-servant dynamics, but then I also like how emotional their romance is and how stubborn Rei is. It was really wonderful!!
✧ Marriage to the Wolf by Inui Hana - another lovely BL!! I adored the dynamic between Kaede and Ren. The way they couldn't stand each other in the beginning..... slowly growing closer and softening to each other. The way they're both doing things out of obligation at first because it's an arranged marriage and the fact that Ren is holding back for Kaede's sake...... THEIR BANTER!!!!!! orz orz
✧ Devilman Crybaby (the netflix adaptation) - THIS SHOW. It hurts me every time I watch it. The ost is a banger, the art style is amazing, the way I cried ugly the first time I watched it. The "why am I the only one speaking, Akira?" haunts me to this day. I highly recommend it.
✧ ODDTAXI - the plot and the twist omg!!!!!! And the mystery!!!!! I may be biased because Riddle's VA voices Odokawa and I love anything that Natsuki Hanae does!! His work is always outstanding. The opening is also another banger. I can't say much without spoiling something major, but I highly recommend this anime. It's definitely worth the watch!!!
✧ The Disastrous Life of Saiki K - Saiki K my beloved. It always manages to make me laugh. I love Saiki's character. He's so funny, as is the rest of the cast. Kaidou never fails to make me laugh, especially in the dub. He's so silly. I think about "drowning in inch-deep water isn't easy" every day LOL.
✧ Romantic Killer - AAAAA I LOVED THIS SHOW!!!!! Maybe it's because Anzu is such a relatable female lead to me (but also because Riddle and Leona's VAs voice two of the main love interests hehe). It's so fun! It also handles the serious aspects of its plot really well. I loved Anzu's dynamic with Riri.
✧ Death is the Only Ending for the Villainess - it's been a moment since I've caught up with this manhwa, but I love it!!! The characters are all really striking. Most of all, I really like Penelope's character!!! <3 she's such a strong female lead. I like her interactions with all of the characters.
✧ Toilet-bound Hanako-kun - this manga is everything to me!!!! I absolutely adore the plot and its characters. Hanako and Yashiro's dynamic is really cute. :D I forgot what chapter I left off on, but I remember it left me in shambles. T^T

@more-than-a-princess
"-so the waitress is staring at all of us, and then Yuuto-kun of all people says 'I'll pay for it' out of nowhere, and Sakura-chan just goes 'Oh so now you have money' and everyone started laughing, it was so funny, Shinobu-kun." From her position on Shinobu's arm, Miss Hara looked up expectantly, lips wriggling back and forth as her story apparently failed to elicit the desired response. "I guess you had to be there?"
"I doubt that's the case, Miss Hara," Shinobu said coolly, barely feeling the arms locked tight around her own. "Rather, it's because I don't attend your school and have no familiarity with your friends." Wasn't that much obvious, that a story that relied upon such knowledge would fall flat? They were trying to give Miss Hara an honest chance to compete for their heart, as always, but she was so far making quite the poor showing.
"Whatever," Miss Hara said with a dismissive shake of her head, before looking back. "Anyway, Shinobu-kuuuun... do you wanna kiss me?" She asked it so casually, as if it were the most common thing in the world, accompanied by her palm pressing against Shinobu's chest. Shinobu's lips curled down into a small frown. "Miss Hara, this is a public place. That's not an appropriate thing to ask." Is it so much to ask that you think with your head rather than with your lust? Or is this simply some disgusting power play, a show of status to everyone around us?
"Come onnn," Miss Hara whined, gesturing to the area around them. There weren't many other patrons, and the staff were occupied with popcorn machines and electronic ticket readers. "I don't care about that, and you shouldn't either. Everyone says you'll do it if you're asked, so don't make me beg." She touched a finger to her own lips, tilting her head with a faintly confused expression. "Or is it something wrong with me? Do you not like me, Shinobu-kun?"
"Not particularly," Shinobu muttered, even as they leaned in, pushing Miss Hara's hair behind her ear as they pressed their lips against hers. She felt nothing at all stir in her heart as she pulled away, although the other girl seemed starry-eyed, with a faint blush on her cheeks. "You're just playing hard to get," Miss Hara said, digging her phone from her purse and rapidly opening up a messaging app. "But that makes sense for a cool princely type, so I get it," she giggled, typing something before stowing her phone away.
"I can cross 'get kissed by Shinobu-kun' off my date wishlist~" Stepping closer again, Miss Hara squeezed herself against Shinobu's side. "Should we go into the theater now? Oh, or food and drinks first?" Wordlessly, Shinobu produced a few ¥1000 bills and dropped them into Miss Hara's hands. "Go buy what you like, Miss Hara." Their date smiled and nodded. "Mkay, I'll grab a pair set then, with the cute collectible drinks so we can match!" The bills in hand, Miss Hara was off.
Shinobu frowned. Those collectible cups were for a tie-in with some anime film with a special drink - artificial flavors and food coloring piped into an already sickeningly-sweet soda. She imagined Miss Hara wasn't even interested in that particular anime, but rather the idea of having a souvenir. Shinobu supposed she didn't care either way - there was a high chance Miss Hara wouldn't want to remember this date especially well. In fact, some dark part of herself looked forward to watching her fall apart, watching to see if Miss Hara would scream or cry or collapse after being overcome by emotional pain. Those girls who so lusted after the Cold, Dark Prince seldom could handle the truth depths of their cruelty.
Shinobu's solitary brooding off to the side of the lobby was interrupted by the sight of a familiar girl across it. A frown and a blink accompanied the realization that it was Sonia, followed swiftly by the question of what exactly Shinobu was supposed to do with that. Anzu seldom frequented the same places as Shinobu's dates, and jilted girls were something they knew how to handle, but someone they were expected (by Anzu, and likely by Sonia herself) to get along with? For her, it was uncharted territory.
Shinobu deliberated for a moment, thinking over whether it would only bother Sonia to be called out to, or if it was better to simply ignore her. Then again, if she ignored Sonia entirely, but the other girl noticed her, with how she'd reprimanded Anzu on her prior rudeness, it would seem hypocritically impolite. There was the matter of Miss Hara to consider as well, but, Shinobu couldn't say she cared much for the girl, and if she wanted to pout about it, so be it. Perhaps it would even be some kind of bizarre upside, the idea that she could win Shinobu, another piece in her delusional roleplay.
"Miss Nevermind, good afternoon." From her position near the wall, Shinobu gave a small nod of acknowledgement to Sonia. "I hadn't expected to see you this weekend." There didn't seem to be anyone else around, so had she come alone? Her eyes went to the other set of collectible merchandise in Sonia's hands, from a horror movie she admittedly wasn't especially knowledgeable about. It made sense with Sonia's interests, though, which could explain coming alone. "I assume you were just seeing that film?" She nodded towards the merchandise. "I hope you found it worth your time."

Yoooo I got another fic idea that I've been thinking about for awhile but finally today got it to sound a little more cohesive!
Kaiba and Anzu look very similar. Same color of blue for their eyes and similar reddish brown hair color. So I got it stuck in my head that it would be interesting if they were half siblings and just didn't know about it.
The idea on how they find out about it is that Mokuba is going to college for bioengineering of some sort. Basically trying to see if he can make a viable human body to put Noah in. Wanting to give him a second chance at life. There would be some kind of project where Mokuba needs to collect DNA samples and compare them to see genetic differences and stuff (I don't know much about how it works so I'm gonna look more into it).
He checking everything out and notices that Seto and Anzu are half siblings and freaks out. Maybe he gathered the DNA wrong but then check Seto's against his own and sees that they are half brothers as well. At that point he's sure he's doing something wrong so he collects samples again from Seto and Anzu. Again the results are showing the same.
Mokuba is panicking at this point. Trying to figure out what happened. He has no idea how to tell Seto and Anzu. That's such a big thing to drop on someone and he has no clue how Seto will react. The possibility of Seto still having a biological parent alive could be a good thing but Mokuba knows his brother and he would still probably just push everyone away. Also thinking about how the man you thought was your father isn't your biological father opens a can of worms I'm not sure how Seto would react too. He'd probably be angsty as fuck about it cause it's fucking Kaiba but it's definitely something I'd like to explore.
Also Anzu's reaction as well. I don't think she'd have as negative of a reaction as Seto but still would need time to process everything of course. It's not everyday that you find out someone that's been making your friend group's life difficult for years is your half brother. Then also how would that affect the relationship with her father? Would it change or get strained? Would she just not care and just wanna know the whole story? I just feel like there are so many things you can do with that dynamic as well.
I also think it would be hilarious if Anzu went into it and teased the crap out Seto and called him like 'Baby brother' or something cute.
But also I feel like this could play into Seto and Mokuba's family sending them off to the orphanage after their dad dies. Like their mom's family is completely out of the picture and it's the dad's side that sends them away after somehow finding out that Seto isn't blood related to them. Maybe just assuming their mom cheated when she had Mokuba too. There's also a lot that could go into that as well. I feel like this could be a very emotional story that would ultimately bring the brothers closer in the end. Depending on how I'd make it to you could possibly have another shot at a father figure in their life.
Just a big ball of angst, hurt and comfort and giving Seto even more daddy issues. He's been through enough but damn it's still fun putting your favorite characters through crazy hypotheticals! I'd love to hear what you guys think about it and maybe give me some pointers or ideas? Thank you ❤️

Another Reason to Watch Romantic Killer
(A romcom anime, not a true crime show, in case the title puts you off.) This is a bit spoilery even above the cut, so skip everything after this paragraph if you want to go in blank-slate--
--but reasons that Romantic Killer is a series to watch include the suplex subversion of a trope that always puts me in agonies (this is not a lit crit point, but an emotional one). It's the part in many shows where someone's being hurt/manipulated/stalked/abused, and those closest to them take the shallowest and worst interpretation possible of the part of the picture they can see. They believe lies from the abuser, or they interpret the signs of abuse in the victim as hurtful behavior or signs the victim doesn't want them around. This is part of irl abuse tactics to isolate a victim from their support system. This period of isolation, misunderstanding, and lack of faith from everyone the character knows will often lead to the dark night of the soul part of the 3-act structure. Then misunderstandings get cleared up around the climax, and reconciliation, and/or fallout, happens in the denouement. But Anzu doesn't play that shit. When the dialog option pops up onscreen-- A: "Did he really do that?" B: "Are you kidding me? He would never do that." C: "..." --she smashes B without hesitation, and she backs it up with action. I dropped into the series because otaku are my people, and I like to see the nerd girl triumph without having to conform. I wasn't expecting to find such a capital-H Hero in Anzu. (More specific spoilers & cw under the cut.)
CW: mentions of bullying, abuse, stalking, attempted sexual assault When Saki's shitbird boyfriend tries to assault her, then spreads lies about her to cover up why they broke up, Saki expects to find herself alone and ostracized. No. Anzu argues with everyone. She makes their classmates rethink their baseless assumptions. She confronts the shitbird and lets everyone know what a scumbag he is. (At this point in the show, I decided Saki needed to be in the polycule. It can be one big pile. Don't separate her from Anzu.) (They can rope in Tsukasa's cute friend Makoto, who also has the huge crush on Junta; it'll be great. <-Tangentially, Makoto, a minor character, is another person who notices someone in silent distress (possibly because he has sisters), and his instinctive response is to protect. He's worthy; he can join the house.) When Anzu's classmates (who aren't too bad, but because of Tsukasa's past they're plenty anxiety-inducing enough for him) try to pressure her into giving them access to Tsukasa, Anzu shuts it down. Once she knows they make Tsukasa uncomfortable, she doesn't hesitate. She won't expose a friend to attention that makes him so anxious he shuts down and flees. She doesn't need to know why, she doesn't blame him for being weak or accuse him of overreacting; she just respects and protects that vulnerability. When Tsukasa's stalker shows up, as soon as Anzu realizes what's happening, she shields him, bodily and emotionally. She believes him by default. The standard trope would have her believe the stalker at least for a while, maybe get angry at Tsukasa for hiding something from her. Doesn't happen for a fucking second. Anzu is there for her friends, without question, every time. And she pays attention: even when they're not outright saying what's wrong, she's watching out for them. She's the friend everyone needs, and one of the worthiest romance protagonists I've seen.

Tell me what you like about Jounouchi and Anzu and Honda <3
You gave me triple characters but that’s okay. Thank you for the ask; ILY.
Katsuya Jonouchi:
He begins the story at a low point of self-loathing and passive aggression and outright aggression but he tries to move forward with the help of the friends he makes. His friendship with Yugi blooms sweetly as Jonouchi claws more out of loneliness, and his friendship with Anzu develops more subtly in the background, and I like how his friendships with Yugi and Atem and Anzu and Honda take different forms. Jonouchi was affection-starved and he throws himself headfirst into things and throws himself into acts for the benefits of others because he needs to be useful. He can be impulsive and selfish but he wants to be good for the people he cares about. And he’s trying so hard. And he can be over-blunt and he’s headstrong and he tries to tackle his struggles himself without asking for help even though help is nearer now. And his emotional empathy betrays him at times --- he wants to seem like a tough guy but he tears up when he sees the Kaiba brothers reunite in spite of everything.
Anzu Mazaki:
I enjoy how she’s spunky and spirited but can also be reflective and kind. Her kindness to Mokuba is so very sweet and meaningful to me in the manga. Her fail-date with Atem is charming but Anzu is also very patient and understanding and just wants to help her friend in the end. I like her moments of reflections scattered through the manga -- on Atem, on Atem’s and Seto’s drive to duel. I like how the “love triangle” is never really a fully-formed plot that goes anywhere. Anzu's starry-eyed crush transforms into something more giving and tangible and blurred. The triangle is affection between teenagers still learning their places in the world and it’s clumsy and aimless, and love is just an emotion felt for them rather than being an endgame point. And I like how Little Anzu smashed the pocket game Yugi gave to her when they were children because she became too frustrated with it.
Hiroto Honda:
He’s grounded and he wants to be good. Honda asked Atem to save the Kaiba brothers at Duelist Kingdom, and he tried to rescue Mokuba himself (though he may have overestimated his capabilities). His dopey clumsy crush on Miho in an early chapter of the manga is cute, and he was so clumsy he had Yugi write the love note which wasn’t even a particularly good or thoughtful love note. I like how he has a phobia of snakes, and I like his dog Blankey of course. I like how in the manga, Honda had wanted to sincerely just bring Shizuka to Domino so that she and her brother could be reunited (I do think that was within the anime in a form as well but it’s very clear in the manga). And he tries to be loyal. He was probably part of Jonouchi gaining independence from Hirutani.

My favorite thing about each yttd character because there is no time to grieve when you're a boss babe
Long post oops
Sara- I love her complexity as a character, she both can fit as an audience surrogate while also having a personality of her own. Of course she has her moments of being a self insert (mainly at beginning) but she very much feels fleshed out as a character (with how she suffers from pressure, and has selfish thoughts and actions).
Joe- love how his mini character arc is wrapped up so well in just one chapter- he struggles with trust vs distrust, and in side jou novel he struggles with his own morality as well.
Keiji- the way he pushes blame onto other characters for his own actions is a defined trait throughout the entire game (before being stated outright in chap 3b). Like how he had such a intense grudge against megumi, Shin, and midori. It's interesting to think about how keiji as a character would change if we weren't on his side
Gin- my son, my precious boy. Anyhow I adore how Gin isn't just the "little kid" character and actually contributes to the plot, but it's also clear he's a little kid with his limits.
Shin- the way abusive victims are presented and the conflicted feelings that come with after the abuser is gone hit way too hard to home.
Qtaro- love how he was able to completely sway the opinions of the fandom, from most people hating to loving him. Qtaro went down like an absolute icon in 3b and even made me emotional.
Kanna- love how she's smarter than she seems, not to a unrealistic sense either. Like for example, she was the one who figured out the password to kai's laptop in chapter 2, or how in chapter 3 she mentioned that she felt like she knew that the message was fabricated.
Kai- I absolutely adore his humor, I was excited to play his route in ytts cause Kai is just a character with a great sense of humor (imo)
Reko- love how kind she is! Unlike what certain people say, she dosent hate men- rather, she's harsh on the strong, and kind to the weak. She's such a lovely big sister figure to Gin and Sara (oh and her comforting Ranmaru when he pulled off his hand was a nice scene as well!)
Alice- I love the way he talks! Not much to say, the way he talks is just very fun to read and write
Nao- i love practically everything about nao since she's my favorite character- but my favorite part about her would be about how she tries to take burden off of Sara's shoulder (like how she killed fake reko, or instead went to shin for help instead of Sara).
Mishima- love how he's like the only yttd character with his shit together, like he already had his character development before the story.
Ranmaru- I love the dichotomy between his character depending on the routes, and how his development makes sense in both routes.
Mai- I love her big dumb hat! It's memorable and so so dumb...I love it!
Kurumada- I love his character development and his care for the dummies, he starts off not wanting allies to be willing to to die for them.
Hinako- I love her attitude like her sarcasm and cynical nature (and also how she dumped hot coco on ranmaru)
Anzu- funny clown girl! I personally think she's very funny (it's also tragic how she fails at everything 💔)
Shunsuke- he is litterally some guy! And that is okay, he is allowed to just be some guy
Sue miley- her introduction really sets the tone for the game- showing how no matter who you are, or how kind you are, you can't escape the will of majority.
Tia safalin- she's a very morally ambiguous character- at times helping, and at other times making it painfully clear that she is absolutely not their ally.
Rio ranger- I love his funny little face masks, very cute.
Gashu- his stupid lil mustache
Midori- his death lolz

ahhh i saw that reqs were still open so maybe chiaki with an s/o in ryuuseitai? ahh can i go by as 🍰 anon? i love all your posts sm!
Tumblr media
ahh, these s/o in [insert unit] requests are so cute to write, i’ve said this a thousand times but i’ll say it again. even though chiaki is a difficult character (for me at least), i’m sure it’ll be fun. (spoiler: bro it got a little emotional at the end sorry i love ryuseitai :/) and yes you can! welcome to the family, cakenooon! i’m happy that you like my stupid little headcanons <3
— previously : rei ✦ kaoru
Tumblr media
✦ chiaki with a s/o in ryuseitai !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
when chiaki sees you in your hero attire, he can’t help but think to himself–yes, you really suit this element! in his honest opinion, you really are the most admirable hero that he’s ever seen. he’s honoured to perform by your side. and your outfits match so nicely, too–sometimes it makes him swoon. chiaki is probably your biggest fan, making sure to have every little bit of your merchandise or whatever crumbs he finds. it’s funny, since you’re in the same unit, he’s basically just throwing the money back to himself when he buys another nui of you. hey, it’s a different one, the jacket is slightly brighter than the other nui’s!
now he has an excuse to watch more hero movies with you–it’s so that you can feel more inspired in practice! and as a bonus, you get to share some treats while you watch, bundled up in soft blankets, comfortable. he’ll always get you your favorites, so that if you don’t stay for the movie, you stay for the snacks. chiaki finds himself enjoying his movies far more with you and feeling more inspired by them when he hears your views on it. all those things, maybe you can incorporate them into some choreography? the kids would surely enjoy it!
this kind of choreo-production is a trial and error, you have to figure out what things you can do with your skill and equipment, and drop the things you can’t do. chiaki is always excited to try them with you! on some occasions, before he calls anyone else, he calls you to attempt this new move that he’s seen in a movie! it often results in many failures, but much more fun to balance it. anzu is always there to help you with the set-up, but not even she is always ready for the utter chaos. to see chiaki hanging from the ceiling by his leg, and you laughing next to him in a huge fish costume.
the public has come to know you as that adorable hero duo. the ones that go to amusement parks in stupid costumes and make surprise appearances in the middle of nowhere, in your full hero attires. chiaki enjoys these moments, but he also likes going out as chiaki morisawa sometimes, and not ryusei red. you see, chiaki can be fun outside of work, too–even though he is a little bit too passionate sometimes. he likes making spontaneous visits sometimes and taking you to places that you’ve never even heard of before. but he’s always able to make it fun! parks, cafes, theaters, everywhere he thinks you would like.
“it’s chiaki!!”, came from your door, followed by more loud banging. by how he was beating the door, you were sure that it had a dent in it already. dragging yourself out of your bed when you heard even more knocking, you passed by a clock that read six in the morning. just what did he find that was so important that he had to wake you up before even the first birds started chirping? you weren’t sure if you wanted to know.
sluggishly, you slid the entrance door open, and chiaki welcomed himself in like the sun in the sky every morning. you were sure your house lit up a little. his eyes were so bright, at 6 in the morning. chiaki really was some kind of a superhuman.
“i have some tickets for the observatorium!!”, he started, fishing two little papers out of his pocket and holding them out to you. the blue shimmered with a purplish color–did this man get you two vip tickets so early? in disbelief, you grabbed the two invitations. “sorry for waking you up so early.. the best time is in the morning. we can also go tomorrow if you don’t want to.”
now, could you reject his puppy eyes?
with you in the group, kanata has to mother you all. when you’re together, chiaki feels even more excited than usual. the amount of energy he gets in addition is incredible–he can go on for hours as long as you’re with him, because he feels motivated. it hasn’t gone unnoticed by anyone that since you joined the unit, chiaki shone even brighter on variety shows especially–ryuseitai takes part in more fun and childish activities. he finds himself enjoying team games especially, since he gets to pair up with you and play with his friends! aren’t the games the most fun part? the public finds your team games the most entertaining as well, so there is no reason for him to stop taking up these offers. ryuseitai reaches a new peak with every game show, really.
during rough times, chiaki will be your hero, as you are his. don’t you worry about anything, he’ll take care of it. whatever you’re struggling with, chiaki and the rest of ryuseitai will always be there to back you up! their bond is very different compared to other units, there’s an unity in ryuseitai that can’t be described with words. it’s like a big, big family. you don’t have to be a hero all the time, you know? it’s okay to cry sometimes, it’s okay to be vulnerable! chiaki will protect you, he’ll be a hero when you can’t be! he hopes that you would do the same for him.
his favourite moments are the moments after long days. when you’re both tired from performing in those heavy suits, voices a little bit rough from singing. on those days where you find yourself marching along the shore, drawing patterns in the sand and watching the waves scrape away at them. while chiaki is a more excitable, energetic person that picks more active outings, those moments of peace make him feel united to you. sometimes, the rest of ryuseitai joins in to watch the sunset. these fleeting, little moments are captured in a tiny album for your eyes only. you sometimes forget that they exist until you check that book, but when you do, you remember them fondly. isn’t your chiaki the best hero?

A Thousand Songs (Atem/Yami x Reader)
Chapter One: We Are Broken
One /// Two /// Three /// Four /// [Five Coming Soon]
Summary: You knew that you and your band could make it big. Not only that, but stay together while doing it; the five of you were family, after all. The only problem was that despite all your musical talents...none of you were particularly good at lyrics. After years of struggling to put out your first full album, the solution finally made himself know in chance meeting on an empty stage.
Rock Band AU, Atem x Reader, gender neutral reader.
A.N.  Woo look at me, starting a new series before I finish my current ones. Don't hate me I have the attention span of a squirrel! I know band AUs are pretty cheesy but I don't care, this idea has been floating in my head for awhile and it's super cute okay?? I was also going to wait to post this until all the chapters were done but I couldn't control myself anymore. These chapters will be much shorter than my usual length so hopefully that means I can update faster??? I won't make any promises but I'll try. Anywho, I hope you guys like fashionable, sensitive Atem because that's who'll be featured in this fic <3 The reader's gender is never mentioned but I will admit I tended to lean more towards songs sung by women in this, I don't really think that matters though (I have Atem sing songs originally sung by women so...). I really hope you guys like this series and I'll love to hear your thoughts <3 Also: @ohyema This is the series I told you about all that time ago lol

I am outside
And I've been waiting for the sun
With my wide eyes
I've seen worlds that don't belong
My mouth is dry
With words I cannot verbalize
Tell me why
We live like this
The crowd was small, as always, but it was enough. Anyone hearing your songs was enough for now, or so you told yourself week after week. You felt Yugi’s eyes on you as you leaned away from the mic, plucking the cords of your Stratocaster for the brief solo and you looked to your left to see him smiling at you; always the positive optimist, the sun that shone on you and the rest of the band.
You flashed him the briefest smile in return before turning back to the mic. If you closed your eyes, got lost in Anzu’s keys, Jou’s steady beats, and Honda’s strings, you could almost pretend you were playing in front of a packed venue. One full of fans solely there to hear music, and not just a dozen or so patrons who enjoyed the music as a backdrop to their late-night drinks.
Keep me safe inside
Your arms like towers
Tower over me
You could have sworn you heard another voice in the crowd join yours as the chorus came. Ah, so there was an actual fan in the crowd.
Cause we are broken
What must we do to restore
Our innocence
And all the promise we adored?
Give us life again
Cause we just wanna be whole
Your eyes fluttered back open for the briefest second and through the smoky haze in the room, you saw that someone at the bar was holding up their phone, camera aimed at the stage. That managed to make you smile, at least you had someone’s attention.
Lock the doors
Cause I'd like to capture this voice
It came to me tonight
So everyone will have a choice
And under red lights
I'll show myself it wasn't forged
We're at war
We live like this
“Are you guys on SoundCloud or anything? Cos that was pretty awesome!” asked a young man who looked barely old enough to be in the bar at all.
You were just helping Yugi pack away his turntables, having finished your set and wishing the small crowd a good night. The young man was with two others, all of them looking enthused as they stood at the base of the small stage. The girl even giggled when Honda winked at her.
Yugi, as usual, was the one to speak up and pulled out a small leather folder from his back pocket. “Yeah, we are actually! We also have a youtube channel,” he pulled cards from the folder, black cardstock with your band’s name, logo, and media accounts scrawled across it in gold text. He handed one to each in the trio, smile still bright on his face, “Check us out if you get the chance, we’re trying to put out a new album this summer, so we should have plenty of new songs to listen to soon.”
With a few ‘cool man’s and ‘awesome’s, the trio wandered back to the bar, the one who had spoken already pulling out his phone with the card in hand, and the girl waving at Honda over her shoulder.
“You know you shouldn’t get their hopes up,” Anzu whispered as she set her keyboard case at the foot of the stage, “Two songs does not an Album make- we have no clue when we’ll actually have it out!”
“Well,” you chimed in, clicking one of Yugi’s several cases closed, “Maybe telling new fans to expect more from us will finally light a fire under our song-writing-asses.” When Jonouchi opened his mouth, that cheeky look on his face, you held up your hand to silence him, “And yes, I know I procrastinate too much, I’m to blame too.”
Yugi lifted two of his cases- and answered after Jou jumped in to take the heavier of the two, “I still think all of us should take a week's vacation, lock ourselves in our studio and work on the album together. Only getting together a few times a week is what’s really killing us I think- we can’t get into a creative groove!”
You and Anzu exchanged a look, knowing full well that neither of your bills would appreciate the week's loss in pay. Still, maybe it was something that you guys could find a way to work out. Then again, there was another idea that had been brewing in the back of your mind for a while now, and you weren’t sure if it was really something that the others in your band would go for...like, at all.
“I don’t know, a week probably wouldn’t even be long enough,” Honda chimed in after slinging his guitar case over his shoulder, grabbing an amp in the free hand.
Jou nodded as you all started filing out the bar’s back door, “I’m still thinking that gettin’ together every single night until the album’s done is the best way to go, even if it’s just for a few hours!”
This was the usual road the song writing debate took, or at least, how it usually went the past month or so, and soon enough the topic came to a standstill, as it usually did.
After loading up Jonouchi’s truck with your equipment, Honda gave the suggestion of stopping for some burgers at the 24 hour joint down the road, a common ritual after your monthly gig at “The Bandit’s Den”. As usual, Jou parked in the space best visible from the front windows of the dinner, and the five of you were glad to find that not another soul sat at the tables.
After settling at your usual booth and ordering, Yugi actually splayed his hands out on the table, looking rather determined. “You don’t start work until seven tomorrow. Right?” he asked you.
“Yeah?”
“I think we should take another trip to the station.”
You actually had to repress a sigh at that. Yugi was all about trying to trigger inspiration for songs, and the “station” referred to an old train station on the outskirts of town. You guys had discovered it long ago and were eager to use it in a music video, but were waiting for the perfect song to go with it. Sure, the old giant clock and brick stairs were a perfect setting, but it had only sparked a line or two of lyrics, nothing to make a full song.
Out of the five of you, most of the lyric writing fell on your’s and Yugi’s shoulders, with Anzu, Honda, and Jonouchi giving occasional input. Since you were the lead singer most seemed to think you would be the natural lyric maker, but the truth was that, despite your talent in singing and playing the lead guitar, lyrics just weren’t your forte. You’d had some luck when teaming up with Yugi, his emotional maturity helping you work through the written expressions, but that only went so far. Yugi also tried things like this, exercises and field trips in the hopes that it would spark creativity.
“How many times have we been to the station before, Yugi?” you asked, “I just don’t think it’s the oracle of inspiration we all hoped it would be. I still want to film there some time, but I don’t wanna take time out to visit it again, I’ll just get annoyed when it doesn’t lead to anything.”
Yugi’s set expression seemed to blink away, replaced with something almost like guilt, “Okay, I was just trying to think of something to get our inspiration flowing…”
Now you’re the one who felt guilty. “I know...hey maybe we could try something new? Like we could go some other place or try some different way to spark our heads?” you suggested, trying to sound positive.
Yugi’s eyebrows lifted in interest, but he was cautious when he asked, “Like what?”
“I…” you trailed off when your mind came up blank. It remained blank even as your eyes trailed over the entirety of the empty dinner as well as the dark scenery outside. A growl of frustration left your throat as you face planted on the table, “I don’t know!”
You heard Yugi giggle as he reached out and patted your head. Beside him, Jonouchi said, “What you need is some brain food! That’s sure to help some ideas come- ah! And here’s our feast now!”
Even though the food was good, kick-start your brain, it did not. If anything the meal just made you more sleepy, even as you guys chatted over the next hour before paying the tab and piling back into Jou’s truck.
Like always the next stop was the studio, the home and hideaway for you and your friends. For a small-time band whose biggest fame was on Youtube, all of you were actually quite proud of your studio. Yugi’s grandfather owned a few rental properties, and since the building wasn’t fitting for a residential space, nor in a part of town that would serve a shop well, he had agreed to give you guys the small building in exchange for help around his game shop every week.
Working together to make the space your own was some of the best memories you had with your oldest friends; going to second-hand shops to gather fitting set pieces, saving up for the sound dampeners so you could record your songs without paying a big-time studio, setting up the back room with tattered old furniture and a mini-fridge that was sure to break down any day.
The only thing that beat those days were the times you actually spent in the studio; rehearsing, recording your few music videos, spending downtime together writing new music on lumpy bean bag chairs and worn rugs (and definitely getting distracted by each other every ten minutes).
The night was late enough that no one bothered the five of you as you unloaded the truck, and soon enough all of you were taking your usual spots in the back room (Anzu sprawling out on the battered chaise, Jonouchi and Yugi filling up the loveseat, Honda falling onto a pair of beanbags, and you plopping down in the hammock chair).
“Alright you guys, I’m just going to come out and say it,” Anzu sighed after a few moments of hanging off the arm of her seat, “We need help writing our songs.”
You actually sat up as straight as you could in your chair and peered over at her- had she really just said what you had been thinking of saying for weeks?!
When she saw your look, something like panic colored her face as she waved her hands, “Not that I don’t think you’re a good writer! The songs you came up with were awesome! ...But-”
You waved off her concern, the hard motion causing your hammock to spin a little, “No- no, Anzu, I totally agree! I just didn’t know if I should bring it up...”
Even if you hadn’t thought of it too, Anzu had plenty of reason to think you needed help. In the whole four years since your group had started the band, from the first days sitting in class drawing up logo ideas, you had only written six original songs- and that included the two that were meant to go on your new album. You had gotten by with relying on covers to fill out your live sets and media accounts and making a host of excuses for the lack of originality.
“You really think bringing in another bandmate’s a good idea?” Honda chimed in, eyes narrow as he leaned back in his beanbag chair.
“Yeah, we don’t wanna end up like half the other bands out there,” Jonouchi chimed in, seeming to subconsciously pull Yugi closer to his side, “you guys know the only reason our band works is because we get each other- we’re family! We can’t just bring another person into that, it’ll ruin it and maybe even break us up!”
Yugi put a hand over Jonouchi’s, “Hey hey, slow down, don’t you think we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves? First of all, bands hire ghostwriters all the time, and they don’t always join the band. Besides... I don’t know, if the person’s really cool, would it be that bad to have another member?”
“We could always have them ghostwrite for us for a while, and if we like them, then talk about letting them join,” you offered, and were glad when everyone seemed to contemplate that with at least some positivity. “But that brings up the issue I think we’ll have, I’m not sure we can find someone who fits with our style all that easily. Like Jonouchi said, there’s a reason all of us work well together.”
It was true, all of you brought something to the table, something more than an instrument. The five of you had slightly different tastes, all of it coming together in something that wasn’t quite punk, not quite rock, not quite pop or even metal, and that’s what worked to your advantage. You wanted to prove that different sounds and styles could come together in harmony and appeal to listeners all across the spectrum. Not fit into a genre-labeled box that only fans of said genre would even bother listening to.
Eventually, Anzu gave a shrug, “We won’t know until we try. Why don’t we put the word out and see what happens?”
“We can still work on our own, and if we don’t find anyone who fits, we didn’t really lose anything besides time,” Yugi added, and that pretty much settled the matter.
Tomorrow the search for a new member of your team began.

i sent one already, but idc. ranmaru
You've unlocked God mode, i'm about to pop off
Favorite thing about them: His relationship with Sara is cute but I still don't ship them lol. I also like @xer0-dr3amz redesign of him which I think Keiji should post soon <3 /lh
Least favorite thing about them: What the fuck happened in the latest update? He got so much more attention and screentime than the other dummies, to the point where if you replayed and got Hayasaka and Anzu killed in the first part, nothing would change because they hardly fucking spoke in this part. Also the logic route probably spawned one of the worst things from this fandom- and that is Yanmaru. Not only does he fucking act like the Jared Leto interpretation of the joker (ESPECIALLY WHERE HE'S LIKE "Mai couldn't become a villain like me." LIKE HELLO SIR?? WHAT THE ACTUAL SHIT ARE YOU ON ABOUT) but the whole yandere thing is ableist as shit, and I always thought that he was bpd coded so... The bpd coded character kills people and then acts like a fucking disney villain. Great. What's worse is that everyone is like "We will never work with you Ranmaru! You're evil!" but im pretty sure Sara mentioned that the Yabusame's death was her fault out loud and every single person coincidentally didn't hear that for some reason?? Also why does he get the upgrade parts? Imagine if Anzu got them? She could've wrecked someone's shit and actually be useful in this chapter. Overall, Jared Leto Joker- I mean... Ranmaru was disappointing as hell in this chapter.
Favorite line: "We're gonna win, aren't we Sara?" Or whatever tf he said lol. Look im suffering from my monthly and I feel incredibly dysphoric rn so the rest of this is going to be shit
brOTP: Ranmaru and any of the teens
OTP: Ranmaru x Anzu. This happened because of an rp me and my siblings did (and are still doing)
nOTP: Ranmaru x Sara (personal reasons) and obviously Ranmaru x any adult, floormaster or younger teen
Random headcanon: He's blasian and his hair is tied into dreadlocks sorry I don't make the rules, Keiji does and I simply enforce them 😌
Unpopular opinion: Yanmaru is a shit concept and I hate everything about it
Song I associate with them: HAHA by Lil Darkie. Everytime I think of Ranmaru I feel several emotions, and this song makes me feel several emotions
Favorite picture of them: I wish more people shipped these two :(

An Example:
Of how things can change between original planning and production. For example after what Otogi pulled, this version of Marik would not have worked:
Yugi smiled as she entered her bedroom to find, for the seventh day in a row, a bunch of flowers led on her desk with a simple white card. Dropping her school bag and moving over to the desk her smile broadened as she saw the same awful handwriting on it as had been there for the last few weeks but the words on it made her pause.
“To Yugi, here's some beautiful flowers for a beautiful girl. Please make me the happiest boy in Domino by going on a date with me. Love Namu.”
She tried not to giggle at the eye roll she could sense from her twin sister at their new friend's cheesiness. Namu was cute, she had to admit and it was nice to get flowers from someone. She had never had a guy truly interested in dating her before but the intern was nice, friendly, fun to play games with and he clearly wanted a date.
She did not know if she should though. She had Anesan to consider before she said yes to his question. It was not fair for her to date anyone who did not know about the Spirit of the Puzzle. Especially when her twin regularly took over to play games and hang out with their friends...still...
'If you want to go out with him, Imoto, then I'm not going to say no.' Oneesan spoke up as Yugi sat on the bed and considered what to do. 'You're allowed to date...we can always tell him about me later.'
'Yes but...' Yugi hesitated. She liked Namu. She really did. She just did not entirely feel comfortable with saying yes without telling him everything. It was only fair for her to do so before they tried a relationship.
'If you like him then I trust your judgement, Imoto. Go. Talk to him.' She felt her Anesan settle down to wait, 'If he's okay with what you tell him...he might be worth keeping.'
Yugi laughed at that. Namu had been working in the shop since she had been hospitalised because of the fire. He was only on a temporary contract over the summer and it was due to end in the next few weeks. She and grandpa had been discussing whether to extend his contract and had not yet come to a decision. 'Alright, alright. I'm going...'
She stood and headed down the hallway to the kitchen, where she knew Namu was heating up his food for his break and paused just out of sight of the doorway when she heard his voice. She frowned slightly as she realised he was on the phone, which to be fair he was allowed to be since he was on break and tried not to eavesdrop, something that suddenly because much more difficult when she heard, “Yes, sister, I know. I know. No, I'm not...I'm aware that I'm supposed to be getting close to her. Why do you think I've been courting her vessel...”
Yugi suddenly felt like she'd been stabbed in the heart, her face paling as she backed up.
 He knew.
He not only knew but he had been using her to get to Anesan...
 She could not handle it.
She could feel Anesan's anger rising, but her own emotional pain and swirling thoughts kept the spirit from seizing control and shaking Namu until he started telling them the truth.
Yugi put down the flowers and fled back to her room, slamming her bedroom door behind her.
---
Anzu frowned as she reached the top of the stairs in time to hear a door slam.
Doors slamming in the Mutou residence was a rare occurrence. Neither of the Mutous displayed their anger that openly and when they did snap it was because someone had pushed them to their limits, in fact she had never seen Yugi lose her temper properly with anyone before. Jou was prone to fits of rage, though he was getting better on that front, but even he did not slam doors around here, especially not during the day when there would be customers downstairs in the shop.
What worried her the most was that it sounded like it came from the back of the flat, towards the bedrooms, rather than the store room that had been converted to a bedroom for Jou when he had first moved in. Ojiisan would be working the shop right now, which meant that somehow, between Anzu pausing outside to answer her mobile phone and now, Yugi had been provoked into an incredibly rare display of anger.
Concern flowed through Anzu as she made her way through to Yugi's attic conversion bedroom, noting the flowers on the side by the kitchen and Namu eating his breaktime meal in the kitchen as she went, and reached Yugi's room to find that yes, for the first time in pretty much forever, Yugi's bedroom door was shut.
“Yugi?” Anzu asked, trying the handle and becoming relieved when the door opened, having half expected Oneesan to have barricaded it with magic or something. The door opened almost silently, not that the occupant of the room noticed. Yugi was curled up on the bed, back facing the door, her body trembling. Anzu could hear the faint sounds of her crying into a pillow as she approached the bed quietly and bit her lower lip as she realised her friend was hurting. She had a horrible feeling she knew why as she put her hand on Yugi's shoulder.
The girl jumped a mile, the pillow going flying and furious ruby overtaking bloodshot, puffy amethyst and though under normal circumstances she had no fear of the spirit of the Puzzle any more, Anzu put her hands up and backed off to show she was not a threat, “Easy, just me. What's happened?”
“Namu can go fuck himself.” Oneesan hissed out, her tone so close to the old days, when whatever Namu had done would have resulted in a Shadow Game that Anzu winced.
“What's he done?” She asked, worried now. “Is Yugi okay?”
“No. You know all those flowers and chocolates and games he's been leaving Yugi? And all the flirting he's been doing?” Oneesan's tone did not improve as she stretched and stood up, her body language reminding Anzu of a big cat on the hunt. When Anzu nodded the Spirit of the Puzzle continued, “Imoto finally decided she was going to take a risk and agree to go out with him...”
“And he's changed his mind?” Anzu asked, wincing when Oneesan snorted dismissively and shook her head.
“He's never been interested in her.” Anger rose in Anzu at the Pharaoh's words. “It's not Imoto he's been after. It's me. Imoto heard him on the phone, talking to his sister. He's been 'courting' Imoto in order to get close to me.”
Anzu's hands balled into fists. Suddenly Oneesan's pure fury made perfect sense. Yugi had not entirely been comfortable with guys, except for Jou and Honda, since she had been kidnapped by Hirutani's gang. She had actively avoided any guy who had tried to flirt with her and kept herself well away from any potential relationship. For her to finally decide she liked a guy enough to make that jump and say 'yes' to him and hear that...no wonder Yugi was devastated and the spirit was fuming. Anzu wanted to smack him herself.
“What's your plan?” Anzu asked, watching the Pharaoh pace the room like a caged animal and staying out of her way.
“I'm too angry to decide.” Oneesan admitted with a grimace. “I want to Challenge the little...sod, but I shouldn't do that in the shop. And I want to ask him questions because he clearly knows about me, except I'm so pissed off right now, that I can't trust myself to listen to what he's saying properly.”
“And what does Yugi want to do?” Anzu nodded, thinking.
“Curl up in a ball and cry for a bit.” Oneesan sighed, closing her eyes so she could focus properly on how her other heart was feeling, “Then get whatever information he has for me before staying in here until his contract is up and she doesn't have to see him again.”
“Can't you ask Ojiisan to let him go now?” Anzu's confusion caused Yugi to come out and shake her head.
“N-No. I-If we fire him now, i-it's for personal reasons, not business ones...he could sue.” Yugi's voice shook as she went and sat on her bed, wiping her eyes and trying not to start crying again in front of Anzu, no matter how much her heart hurt. “And we c-can't afford a l-lawsuit right now. Not after the f-fire...”
Anzu hesitated for a moment, then sat next to her and pulled her into a hug. Within moments Anzu could feel Yugi shaking in her arms and she rubbed the girl's back as she felt tears sink into her top. “He's an ass, you're better off without him.”
Yugi did not cry for long but when she pulled away her shoulders were drooping, her head hanging low and her eyes showed how unhappy she was was. Anzu pushed her own anger aside to sigh, “Hey,” Yugi looked up at her, “We're going out.”
“B...but...” Yugi started but cut off when Anzu shook her head.
“No buts, I'm paying. We're going out and getting pizza. From that place with the all you can eat dessert bar.” She knew she had Yugi's interest when she saw the girl lick her lips, “No boys. Boys smell.”

Do you have any predictions for how Chapter 3 will play out? :D and what are your thoughts on the CH3 dummies? I think smth is gonna happen with Hinako but I do not know what
I’ll start with the dummies
Kurumada- I can’t quite get a read on him. He seems easily distrustful, almost on the same level as Hinako, and he stands as the second highest placer in the game next to Sara, yet died in his first trial. His distant attitude and refusal to open up draws parallels to Keiji, but unlike Keiji, he doesn’t make shows to gain trust. He’s very open about who he is. I’m also curious what his backstory is. He states that he got into trouble with police a lot, which considering the fact he has the darkest skin in the game, and the fact that this game really does say ACAB a lot... I feel like that’s going to come back. He does seem to be opening up with Qtaros help, and I’m interested to see more of him.
Mai-Ms Tsurugi, please marry me. But jokes aside I love Mai. I like the “seemingly dumb and ditzy character is actually pretty hyper competent” trope and she’s really cute and pretty and I am gay. Part of me wonders what will happen when she wakes up in 3-1B. She might be the link that unifies the humans and the dummies touched that Qtaro spared her, or she might side with Hinako. It’s hard to tell with her because she keeps her cards very close to her chest, clearly smarter than she looks, and able to get the jump on Qtaro and be the first dummy to take action against her partner. Of course, she’s also a person who was dropped into a bad situation, just like everyone else in the game, so I don’t want to judge her too harshly. I’ll just say she’s an excellent dame and I want to bake bread with her.
Ranmaru- Eugh... I’m gonna be honest and say I don’t like Ranmaru. He has the personality of unseasoned chicken. We really don’t see much of him, and his only significance seems to come in what he means to Sara, and whether she sees him as a friend or not. I find him very uninteresting and ran//Sara is in no way my thing.
Hayasaka- this man is the embodiment of “I have a wife and a kid and a mortgage and if I drop a bag of my favorite chips on the ground, I don’t cry about it.” Honestly, I find his constant quips and panic funny, and I definitely think he’s going to become a keystone in the plot what with his connections to Asunaro, and knowledge of Sara’s history. I definitely think keeping him alive is going to be a huge factor on the story. Also I love his relationship to Gin. Especially when he starts trying to impress him, like a lame dad trying to be cool. He’ll probably turn out to be a good character once the game is finished.
Anzu- CLOWN GIRL! Yeah I love Anzu. She’s ditzy, and cute, and shy, and fun loving and like, what more do you need to love her? Also... once again, I want to comment on her percentage and how she beats out a lot of adults with her standing. It’s been theorized by a friend of mine that she’s the back up high school girl in case Sara loses which is FASCINATING. Like with Kurumada, Anzu is hard to get a read on. It doesn’t seem like she’ll be as important as Hayasaka, but I can only hope that she’ll get more attention as the story goes on, I want a reward for keeping her alive!
Hinako- Gaz Membrane. Okay jokes aside Hinako... fascinates me. I’m not on board with the theory that she’s not the real Hinako and is just a fake planted among the dummies because of the painting and the victim video like one... why make an obvious difference to the real Hinako if you want her to blend in and two, I don’t think her being happy in the moment of her death means she was always gunning for it. It’s normal for people with suicidal thoughts to still fear death. Like, it’s very common, no I am not talking about myself what do you mean? Anyways, Hinako’s acceptance in her final moments could easily be for the act she didn’t have the courage to do herself. And I think her current attitude matches that. She’s jaded. Violent. Clearly not a happy person. Okay, I’m getting off track let me talk about her character. I’m definitely sensing a tragic backstory with her. Her violent tendencies, her suspicion of others, it’s going to be for a reason. I do hope she gets redemption because she’s just a child, and no child should ever feel the way she seems to constantly. Her acceptance of death is... depressing. She seems to fight vehemently for it, a sense of looking out for No. 1, but there’s clearly no motivation within her too. She has eye bags, a blatant cynicism to her, who hurt you child, TELL ME? But yeah, I really like Hinako.
Well that’s the dummies. Now for how the chapters routes will go...
Well, the Kanna lives route is definitely going to be our access to the “true ending”. There’s going to be a successful escape, and we might not even have a main game. There might be multiple endings and some might go badly but it’s clear the game wants to set the emotion route as the happy ending. Though part of me wonders... maybe it’ll leave a few questions unanswered? Because hear me out, hear me out. This is the EMOTION route. It’s not going to matter what answers there are, just coming out with everyone, and beating the forces that put them there. Maybe just one of the endings ends like that. There will be multiple after all.
As for the Shin lives route... I see no happy endings in sight. The endings I foresee for this one are Shin getting his revenge, and in the case that the player avoids the game over and leaves him choking on his blood and still cursing everyone, so much of a desperate vile monster at that point you feel nothing but disgust, then I see it ending with Sara, queen of the death game, killing the rest of her allies in and taking her place on the throne of Asunaro as it’s heiress. I’ve seen some people throw around ideas for a Shindemption and happy ending in this route and as much as I’d like that to happen, and for there to be a Sara and Shin friendship... yeah, it’s not happening buddy. But I do hope Shin gets to be the one to kill Midori in this route. He deserves it.

Note
How do you think the fallout from the Sou fight between the dolls and the remaining participants will play out? I mean, Q-taro just went on about how they're done sacrificing each other and then Keiji goes and tries to kill Midori, possibly putting the dolls at risk. I personally think/hope that the tensions are very high on Sou route, at least compared to Kanna route, where they might be able to smoot things over a bit.
This is a good question and I’m happy that you asked me, though it is a difficult one. My honest answer is that there are so many variables at play with the dummies that their arcs could go in so many directions. For example, it’s already possible for Anzu and Hayasaka to die in 3-1A. How much will the story change depending on that? I’m excited to learn more about these characters, so I don’t like to speculate about them dying so quickly, but that’s already happening!
With that said!
I agree with you that the Sou/Kanna choice feels like the most pivotal break in the game, and I love to speculate about the effects of that choice. How will Sara, Keiji, Shin, and Kanna behave differently in these routes with regards to the dummies? I’m hesitant to theorize too much, but I will share with you how I would write the fallout if I was writing a fanfiction.
I’m basing my thoughts on my earlier analysis that I think it was logical to push Fake Reko and emotional to spare her. In other words, I think it is logical to prioritize the humans’ wellbeing over the dolls, and it is emotional to treat the dolls as the humans’ equals.
First of all, if I was writing this, I would ensure Keiji’s survival from his current coffin problem, and I would keep him as the most “difficult” character for the dummies. Keiji is the most logical character and the voice of reason. Yes, he just had an emotional outburst in his confrontation with Midori, but I think he could justify this outburst as since the humans are tasked with killing Midori anyway. Keiji is the best at rationalizing. If we want to focus on the “greater good” of saving as many humans as possible, we need to rationalize that we need to kill Midori and leave the other dolls to die. If anyone is going to point out this harsh truth, shouldn’t it be Keiji?
If literally anyone else points this out, it would be a huge, dramatic turning point for them, while with Keiji it would be in line with how he’s always behaved. I would resist having anyone else point this out and keep my focus on Keiji, and I would treat this as a potential turning point for him. Perhaps he will come out of this arc by learning to change his harshly logical mindset, or perhaps he will double-down on it.
In contrast, I would write Shin and Kanna as more sympathetic to the dummies, who are vulnerable underdogs much like them. I hesitate to make Shin too nice since he is an antagonist after all, but I still want to believe that, in his heart of hearts, he would empathize with the dummies. (Since it’s me, I would indulge myself and give Shin some melodramatic speeches about how Keiji and Logic Sara are filthy hypocrites who don’t actually care about saving anyone but themselves. He’s a talkative antagonist and he Has Opinions about strong and weak people that he Must Share.)
In my Fake Reko analysis that I mentioned earlier, I pulled screenshots of how both Shin and Kanna react emotionally to the idea of Fake Reko dying, and they both affirm her humanity. I think it would be really cool if those early reactions could foreshadow them both trying to affirm the humanity of these new dolls!
So that sets the stage for conflict within our group. I would write Logic Sara as more inclined to side with Keiji, whether the Player wants her to or not. And I would write Emotion Sara as someone who would side with Kanna.
I would treat this as a big shining moment for Kanna to grow as a person who realizes her voice has value. She has internalized the loving messages that both Kugie and Shin tried to impart to her. Kanna wants to save everyone’s lives, and she also doesn’t want Keiji to damage his soul any further by continually rationalizing that they need to sacrifice people to survive.
Hinako is a key player here. Personally, I am most excited for what the story does with Hinako, due to her connections with my favorite characters.
She is Keiji’s dummy partner. With Hinako, Keiji has a second chance to help a little girl, since he previously voted to kill Kanna. He also has a chance to double-down on his harsh views that we need to kill these girls for the greater good. I would write Keiji as redeeming himself in the Emotion Route, and becoming a darker person in the Logic Route.
Hinako parallels Kanna as a depressed middle school girl. I would love to see Kanna befriend Hinako and teach her the same loving lessons she learned from Kugie, Shin, and Emotion Sara. Hinako is a cynical weak person who expects to be used, which is most similar to Shin’s old cynical attitude. Wouldn’t it be lovely for Kanna to help Hinako like how Shin was able to help Kanna? I couldn’t resist that if I was writing!
However, I’m most excited about the potential for a Shin-Hinako alliance! Since Shin would see similarities between Hinako and Kanna, and he could grow protective of her in spite of himself, and I just think it would be really really cute, okay? Anyway, I am all in for that theory that Shin and Hinako should team up to try to kill Keiji, because I think that would be exciting and dramatic and honestly hilarious. So that’s what I would write! But I would make them fail, and Keiji kills Hinako instead, and Shin comes out of this arc feeling even more self-righteous and hating Keiji and Logic Sara even more. Muahaha.
(If I was writing a redemption arc for Shin though! I’d make his feelings reach Sara, and they could come to another emotional understanding, and maybe they could forgive each other. I don’t expect that to happen in canon, but it is nice to think about.)
Anyway, that’s how I would write the fallout! But it could turn out completely different!! There’s literally so much that I can’t anticipate, and I’m trying to brace myself that many of my ideas will probably turn out to be wrong. We’ll have to wait and see!

Not that anyone asked (but seriously I’d LOVE for someone to talk to me about PokeSpe (just no spoilers past vol 13)) but since I made an offhand remark about my Top 5 favorite characters, it occurred to me that I actually DO have approximately 5 top favorite characters, and I’m procrastinating on work, so I’m gonna ramble
**just in case, note that a lot of this will revolve around my childhood experience with gender in a “I’m AFAB (and present-day me still identifies as a cis girl) but I don’t fit in with what media is telling me girls are like” way, a brief childhood feeling of homophobia, and probably general TMI about my opinions and emotions throughout my life, haha
1. Yellow
Okay, so, I was a little kid when Pokemon Adventures started coming out in English, back when manga was released as single-issue monthly comic books instead of complete volumes.  So I was rereading the same chapters over and over while anxiously awaiting the rest of the story (and wound up missing a bunch of issues anyway)
I enjoyed the RGB arc, I thought it was fun, but I didn’t LOVE the series until Yellow showed up.  At that age my ideal crush was “a cute boy my age who would be nice to me” and Yellow was presented to the reader as a cute boy my age who was sweet and kind and gentle, but also good in a fight, as all shounen protags must be.  Extra bonus points because they had just a few physically weak Pokémon and tried to fight battles in a way that minimized damage to their own and the opponent’s Pokémon, which meant they fought in a particularly smart and clever way.  And I was considered “smart” for being good at school, so being a SMART cute “boy” my age who would be nice to me, Yellow was PERFECT.  I mean, I loved the arc in general because of the clever battles, and the mystery of what had happened to Red, why these people were after Pikachu, why Yellow was so secretive about themself and their mission, etc was really engaging.  But also I adored Yellow as a character and partly in a “I wonder if ‘he’ would like me??” kind of way X’D  So to my tiny child self who didn’t even know it was possible to like-like someone of the same gender (because I hadn’t read Cardcaptor Sakura yet XD ), the reveal that Yellow was a “girl” was devastating—I had to cross out floating hearts on at least one drawing of us holding hands (scandalous!) and, while kind of stunned and shaken for a while, decided that what I’d felt all along was a deep, intense desire to be friends X’D (which probably wasn’t too far from the truth since I was pre-puberty and later turned out to be asexual)
(Also note that I never got the RGB issue that had the chapter where Red helps a little ‘girl’ capture a Rattata—later proven to be Yellow’s backstory—so the gender reveal really came out of nowhere for me.)
But anyways, I still love Yellow as a character for all the above reasons, without the crush aspects because I’m way older than them now.
Also when I reread the series ten years ago, I finally realized “wait, aside from surprising the reader, there’s no real plot reason for Yellow to pretend to be a ‘boy’ except that Green told ‘her’ to—so why did ‘she’ do it?”...and because at that time I didn’t even know that nonbinary genders existed, I decided it was cus they had low self-esteem and pretending to be a different person gave them courage (the same reading I had for Mulan at the time).  These days I’m more inclined to “yeah, I think Yellow’s nonbinary,” but that other interpretation was deeply relatable to me and only made me love Yellow even more.
2. Bill
Bill’s definitely a character I’ve grown to love more as an adult, since I’ve gone from seeing myself as “a protagonist doing cool things” to “a side character just living their life who hopefully gets to do something once in a while.”  But as a kid and now, I like him mostly for the slapstick and goofy expressions and the (early chapters Viz translations) outrageous accent  X’D  My brain desperately craves endorphins and the best way to get em is through a good laugh.
But also, I liked that he was introduced as a goofy character-of-the-week who got into ridiculous trouble and had to be rescued, but then kept being brought back, was slowly built up to be the “smart sidekick who explains things,” and eventually got to the point where he was participating in big battles (the Yellow finale on Cerise Island).  I rambled about this in the tags of another post, but I liked that he was a character who was “weak” without being “useless.”  As a kid who was good at school, I was obsessed with being good at things and had developed a black-and-white view of the world where either you were “strong/smart” or “weak/stupid” to the point that failing or just being not-so-good at anything was devastating (it still kind of is), because that meant I was actually “weak/stupid” when I was supposed to be “strong/smart.”  So it was kind of awesome that this guy who kept getting into trouble and having to be rescued—and didn’t even want to BE part of the final battle—managed to hold his own and get through it and help out instead of being a burden that dragged everyone down.  Seriously, he used a MAGIKARP effectively—the Pokémon everyone makes fun of for being “useless” and he used its one attack to save his life!
(Bonus points for all this happening in contrast to my devastating childhood experience of stanning The One Girl Character in every popular shounen series, waiting desperately for her to get to do something in battle, and then her one spotlight episode revolved around her struggling because she was so weak...not only was that actually happening to a boy for once, it was actually happening in a more satisfying/empowering way :’D )
3. Gold
I have extremely specific tastes when it comes to “the dumb shounen/action movie protag,” because as a kid I hated it when the main character was “dumb” because I was “smart” (re: good at school) and people who were “dumb” shouldn’t deserve to be the main character and have all the cool powers and save the world and stuff.  As an adult, I hate it when male characters are dumb and/or jerks but it’s treated as fine or even sexy(??) and the other characters fawn over them, and I generally still kind of hate it when characters who are dumb and/or jerks get the big important role when there’s a female character RIGHT THERE who’s more competent (and OF COURSE she has to wind up falling in love with him)
But anyway, I have extremely specific tastes, and Gold is it  X’D  He’s the perfect combination of “unshakably confident in his own stupid/egotistic views” and “treated as annoying and/or comic relief by the rest of the cast” with a bonus dash of actually being really clever in battle (so my inner child goes “Ah yes, technically, he is ’smart,’ and therefore...worthwhile“)  Making me laugh while also impressing me is like the key to my heart.
4. Crystal
I’m too lazy to look it up, but when Viz was publishing Pokemon Adventures as monthly comics, they must have switched to publishing it as trade paperbacks only and/or had a huge gap between the end of Yellow and the start of GSC, because for YEARS I’d thought Yellow was the end of the series and was shocked the first time I saw later volumes.  (My dad was buying us the monthly issues at the local comic store, and either they wouldn’t have ordered the trade paperbacks or he wouldn’t have thought to check those shelves.)
Anyway, that’s a long lead-in to the statement of “Crystal would automatically be my #1 or #2 if I’d read her arc as a kid.”  She’s a girl, she wears pants, she’s EXTREMELY smart (genius-level “book-smarts” about every Pokémon’s behaviors and weaknesses PLUS being clever in a battle), was tough as nails (she KICKED her Pokéballs!!), had no interest in romance or her appearance, AND had a short arc about losing her confidence and training herself back up to full power.  I would have KILLED for a character like that when I was a little girl being told that “girls don’t like action shows like Dragon Ball Z” (but I was a girl and I did???) and that girls were supposed to be pretty and obsessed with fashion and dating, and that girls were never the main character of action series, just side characters who either did nothing or got one chance to do something and were pathetically weak (see above, and/or Sakura’s fight against Ino (Naruto), those couple filler eps where Téa/Anzu played Duel Monsters (Yu-Gi-Oh), Videl getting pummeled by Spopovich (DBZ), etc).
So anyway, she’s awesome, she’s exactly the type of character I would’ve loved as a kid.  The only reason she’s behind Gold here is because at my age, “makes me laugh” > “the kind of main character I used to wish I could be”
5. Green (the girl trainer...I’m just too loyal to the Viz version to call her “Blue”...)
I’m trying not to rehash the same “I’m a girl but none of the girls in my shows/comics are like me!” childhood woes over and over, haha, but as much as I always enjoyed Green for being extremely clever and outsmarting the boys and being funny when she did so, she always lost points with me for being “pretty” and flirting to get her way, because that put her in the box of “girls are supposed to be pretty and desired by boys and obsessed with their appearance and romance” that was so foreign and disheartening to me as a kid.
But her staredown with Ho-oh at the end of the GSC arc TOTALLY got me.  As a sad adult with anxiety, watching characters who are absolutely terrified overcome their fear, watching characters who are completely beaten down struggle back to their feet and keep fighting, is like my ultimate power fantasy.  That sequence genuinely had me in tears.
Also her bond with Silver is super precious, especially since that’s like the first time in the series we’ve seen her be genuinely emotional and vulnerable with someone instead of teasing or manipulating them.
Honorable mention: Sapphire
I haven’t gotten up to R/S in my reread yet, and I only read that arc once over like a weekend ten years ago, but I’m pretty sure she’s gonna be a Top Fave cus again there’s that “I'm not like other girls!” childhood feel  (last time I’m saying it, I promise)
It’s a story arc where one protag wants to fight the gyms and the other protag wants to win the beauty contests, but the one who wants to fight the gyms is the girl!!  And she’s the typical “dumb but extremely good at fighting” shounen protag but she’s the girl!!  She’s feral and illiterate and a total tomboy and wins all her fights and she’s a GIRL!!!!
--
Anyway, those are my kids and my dude and my probably way-too-personal reasons why.  If you wanna reblog, reply, or send an ask about your own faves...please

DarkSaiyan and OddNub’s YuGiOh Reboot
Back in February, my buddy @oddnub and I were talking about how we would reboot the YuGiOh anime, and we decided to follow in the footsteps of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and pitch a more faithful adaptation of the YuGiOh manga:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now don’t get me wrong, the anime back in the 2000’s definitely had a big impact and, despite my hate for 4Kids, I do have fond memories of it. However, it’s such a shame that a lot of fans have overlooked such a great manga. What makes YuGiOh stand out from other Shonen titles is the fact that despite not being very action heavy, it’s still an engaging read and a battle of brains can be just as compelling as a battle with fists, maybe even more so.
Anime Studios
Some of you are probably wondering what would this new adaptation might look like and I have three main studios in mind for this:
A-1 Pictures
Tumblr media
A-1 Pictures are my go to studio for this project. They have a knack for making good fantasy anime, such as Fairy Tail and Seven Deadly Sins, and using animators from those teams can really bring the battles to life in new and epic ways!
Not only that, but A-1 are also the studio responsible for producing Your Lie in April, Anthem of the Heart and the legendary Anohana. All of these are very emotional and hard-hitting stories and can carry over to the heavier moments adapted from the original manga, showing the audiences that this is going to be much different than what they’re used to.
OLM. Inc
Tumblr media
While it would be great to have a more serious look at the story, let’s be honest with ourselves; there’s gonna be a huge demand for new merchandise. Known for also producing the Pokemon anime, OLM Inc seem like the perfect studio and can really capture a nostalgic “Saturday Morning Cartoon” vibe the original had.
Madhouse
Tumblr media
Ah, Madhouse. One of the most popular studios among anime fans today. They would be a great studio to handle the YuGiOh reboot. Why? Simple.... horror. Madhouse is no stranger to horror anime, mainly thanks to their sleeper hit of 2014; Parasyte. Not only that, but they’ve also had some solid action series too such as 2011’s Hunter x Hunter and One-Punch Man. If they can combine that horror and hard hitting action, we could be in for a really good time!
Seasons
Keeping things simple, New YuGiOh would be divided into 7 seasons, each one being 24-25 episodes. The main story arcs are as follows:
School/Death-T Arc
School/Monster World Arc
Duelist Kingdom Arc
Battle City Arc
Tournament Finals Arc
King’s Memories
Ceremonial Battle Arc
Cast
Tumblr media
Okay, I know that this is gonna sound controversial, but I wouldn’t have Dan Green or Eric Stuart return as either Yugi or Kaiba respectively. Before any of you jump at me, I have a reason. Mainly because I want this reboot to go in a new direction, which is being a more faithful adaptation of the original manga. As such, I don’t want any ties to 4kids being in this show. I want this to be fresh and exciting not just for newcomers but for older fans too.
Dan and Eric are the iconic voice actors for Yugi and Kaiba, I know that. But they shouldn’t be the only ones to voice the characters. Batman has had multiple voices, I think Yugi and Kaiba can have them too.
Anyway, me and Odd had a pretty cool idea where characters with a Yami form would have their voices be completely different, emphasising that there are two separate people inhabiting one body. The voice actors I had in mind are as follows:
Yugi Mutou/Yami Yugi- Colleen Clinkbeard/Bryce Papenbrook
Anzu Mazaki- Cherami Leigh
Jonouchi “Joey” Katsuya- Benjamin Diskin
Hiroto Honda- Kyle McCarley
Sugoroku Mutou- David Lodge
Setō Kaiba- Johnny Yong Bosch
Mokuba Kaiba- Alexis Tipton
Ryuji Otogi- Todd Haberkorn
Mai Kujaku- Erica Lindbeck
Dinosaur Ryuzaki- Newton Pittman
Insector Haga- Robbie Daymond
Bandit Keith Howard- Kyle Hebert
Para Meikyu- Lex Lang
Dox Meikyu- Talesin Jaffe
Maximilion J. Pegasus- Kaiji Tang
Ryo Bakura/Yami Bakura- Josh Keaton/Clancy Brown
Marik Ishtar/Yami Marik- Matthew Mercer/Mark Hamill
Shadi- Todd Haberkorn
Thief King Bakura/Zorc- Ray Chase
Music
There’s only one choice; Yuki Kajiura. I mean, she composed the music for Ufotable’s Fate!!!! What more could you ask for?
Tumblr media
And that’s the pitch for our potential YuGiOh reboot. Even though it’s highly unlikely that this would all happen, it was still a fun thought to have. One day, I’m sure we’ll see another YuGiOh series that does adapt the manga more faithfully. Until then, we still have the manga with us right now. Seriously if you haven’t read it yet, do it!
Special thanks to @oddnub for helping me with this. Go check him out, he does some fun, cute artwork as well as some good stories. 👍
