Analysis of the Demon Kings cover and forshadowing for the villains
I think we can agree that this cover below is one amazing piece of art from Kato :
Tumblr media
This is the first time we see the ennemies demon kings (Satan included in his fresh new body) together, in a cover with such beautiful colors, and with all of them showing their face (well except Astaroth, still a mushrom at this point).
But, with the release of chapter 134, I started to wonder if there is not something more to be taken from this gorgeous cover.
The cover can be divided in three different parts, three different perspectives :
Tumblr media
First, let’s look at the parts separately, then together.
1. Iblis, Egyn and Astaroth
The three demon kings, loyal since the beginning to their eldest brother Lucifer and to the idea that the low humans need to pay for the suffering they are all facing, are standing together, side by side. They are the first characters you notice when looking at the cover, thanks to Iblis’ bright flames. They are looking in the same direction, almost the same direction as Satan, with apparent enthousiasm (at least Iblis, because once again Astaroth is mushrom and Egyn is hidden in a shark suit... talk about royalty).
2. Satan
He is standing way behind, and above all the other characters. Even if he is looking in the same direction as the three siblings, looking just as greedily happy, the meaning is pretty clear. Yes, their goals are from now on the same, destroying Assiah, but he is not among or with them. He is above them all, he is the demon god and them, the kings, will just be his servants in the conquest of Assiah.
In Chapter 134, we saw how little Satan care about those demons who nonetheless did everything in their power to bringing him back to life. When he destroyed Astaroth previous incarnation, he showed absolutely zero remorse. And yet, as soon as the King of Roth was back into a physical body, his first thought was to go back immediately to Satan’s side. There is something deeply saddening to see those demon kings, who have been the rulers of Gehenna for millenia, suddenly throwing all of their efforts into gaining the attention and approval of a forty-years-old man-child, who does not give a damn about them apart from their willingness to serve him. Us humans would call that an abusive relationship.
3. Lucifer and his human followers
This part is by far the most surprising. You would expect Lucifer, the demon king who first lead the war on humankind and the first to bow to Satan, to be standing with his siblings, ready to do Satan’s bidding. But not.
He is slightly behind, in paler colors, with his human followers. Homare and the Lundstrom twins are facing a completely different direction, not competely opposed to Satan’s, but still clearly different. Lucifer’s body is facing the same direction, apart from his head, turned on the side so that he can look in the same direction as his siblings. But instead of looking enthousiastic like them (after all, HE finally succeeded, he is the one who made the bet to make Satan a good body, and he just WON), I would rather describe his expression as dark and maybe... bitter.
I think there might be a lot to unpack here. Lucifer appears separated from the other demons kings and Satan, in position and attitude, and is surrounded by humans. Something a bit crazy for this character, who was apparently shown to be the most anti-human demon of all. Even more interestingly, the red of his cloack is exactly the same color as Homare’s coat just next to him, to the point at first look both characters look like one instead of two distinct individuals. They appear as a unit, something a I remember noticing in some other pieces of art. Unlike the other demons, he is not in a position of domination but slightly bending.
Can we see in this cover a kind of forshadowing for the future evolution of Lucifer’s character ? He is not entirely facing the same direction as Satan, and instead of standing with his siblings, he is shown standing with humans and fusionned with a human character. Is it possible, that inspite of everything, Lucifer might start being the one questionning Satan’s goals and destruction, even though he was the one at the origin of the whole project ?
And also : do the humans around him symbolise that he might start to question his negative view on humanity ? And especially Homare : in the present timeline, they are almost always scene together, as in this image.
Conclusion : Iblis, her dearest brother Egyn and Astaroth, seem ready to do whatever Satan ask of them and Satan himself looks certainly ready to break down Assiah beneath his feet. In comparison, Lucifer looks almost hesitant, as to forshadow that his character might actually be faced with doubts.
It does not mean Lucifer could ever let go of his dream of creating a new “gentler” world in his own words. It does not mean he will ever have a redemption arc (I am convinced of the contratry). But in a narrative point of view, it would be extremely satisfying to see this character in particular facing doubts, and possibly sad consequences for his actions in the pursuit of his destructive dream.
What do you think ?

This thought appeared in my head today and it won't get out.
I could write a fucking essay on how Hanzo from OW and Yukio from AnE are such similar character but are loved (Hanzo) vs hated (Yukio) by their respective fandoms despite having done almost the same things.
The big difference is that Hanzo has done irreversible damage to his brother while Yukio knows with 100% that he would never be able to hurt his brother permanently.

Everyone keeps saying "rip white hair rin" but like, I'm pretty sure it's not actually completely gone??? Like his demon heart isn't sealed again, it definitely seems like a more symbolic thing, rather than literal. After all he said he was taming his demon half, not sealing it. My assumption when reading it, was that his hair probably still changes when he draws his sword, and it would make sense if at the end of his character arc, once he's fully come to terms with himself, that it would change again. I could be wrong with the exact circumstances, but I highly doubt that his blue/white hair is completely gone...

UPDATED MASTERLIST OF ALL AOEX DISCORD SERVERS:
Hello guys, I wanted to create a new Masterlist of all the discord Aoex discord servers, because some of the servers got deleted, and new servers have been created. Additionally others have had some rules and changes. I also managed to get a page break on this one, so hopefully this will keep the post from being so long. I also will probably delete the old list with this new one.
Anyway, enjoy the list. I’m going to start with servers I am personally affiliated with, and other servers on the list too. If it’s no trouble, I do very much so appreciate signal boosts this on this.
So these first servers, I do own.
AO NO DISCORD SERVER
This server is ran by me (@blueexorshit)
This is my main server and it’s currently at around 270 members. It’s pretty active and I’ve enjoyed meeting a lot of people here. An intro is required for you to access the full server. You don’t have to write anything too fancy, but a name (or alias) and your age is required. We also have many, many fanclubs, that you can join. There’s also sfw and nsfw 18+ channels available for any adult members in the server.
AOEX ART CLUB
This server is ran by me ( @blueexorshit )
This server is very heavily inspired by the Aoex writers discord server (see further down). Please do check them out if you enjoy writing. I really liked the idea of a place for Aoex content creators, so I wanted to create a place for artists in the fandom. Unlike my other server, in regards to ships, nsfw and such, I will be a little more lax on the rules here, just because it’s a smaller and more niche group. Nsfw channels are available for 18+ members.
BLUE EXORCIST DISCORD
This server is owned by @samael-time-king. I am a mod here.
This server is probably one of the longest standing discord servers in the fandom, and by far one of the largest. It’s very active and popular. It’s a really nice server for anyone who wants to meet more people within the fandom, and to get together to discuss the series. This server also has chats reserved to adult members of the server. The people here are really kind and it’s pretty peaceful.
RINSHI HAVEN
This server is owned by @flower-of-assiah. I am also a mod here.
A great server for any Rinshi shippers out there! It’s a bit of a smaller server, but very laid back. You can find Rinshi fanart, fanfics and headcanons there. There’s also places to discuss the manga and other ships too! There are nsfw channels for any 18+ members of the server. Definitely worth checking out if you like Rin x Shiemi.
Now the servers I am not personally affiliated with.
AO NO EXORCIST WRITERS
This server is owned by @9thprinceofhell
This is a discord server for any writers in the Aoex fandom. Its a place for Aoex fanfic writers to get to together and discuss their works. Both for inspiration, critique, support and more. The server is an all ships server, but ship stuff is reserved to the shipping category. There is also an 18+ channels for any 18+ members. This is a pretty nice and welcome place for any writers in the fandom.
RIZUMO CULT
This server is owned by twitter user @/journey505
If you’re a Rizumo fan, this is a great server to be! There is art, headcanons and fanfic recommendations here, all for Rizumo. Other ships are allowed too, but do primarily keep it to Rizumo. There’s nsfw chats available for 18+ members. There’s also special chats for anime and manga spoilers.
BONS BABES
This server is owned by Twitter user @/buz00ka
For any fans of Ryuji Suguro, this is definitely the server for you. It’s a very heavily Bon based server, with many chats for him. Bon based shipping, headcanons, fanart and more can be found here. There’s also nsfw chats available for the adult members of the server. It’s a great place to check out if you love Ryuji. This was formerly the Bonzooka Bois, but the original server disappeared so here’s the remade one. There is also nsfw chats available for any 18+ server members.

For the ask! Either Undertaker from BB or Mephisto from aoex (or both if u want 😁).
I'm gonna do both and rope @gemuesefuchs in because they asked the same thing about Mephisto! So I'll do him first!
Why I like him:
Hmm. Hard to pin down. I love trickster characters in general. I like that you never quite know what their plans are or which way they're going to swing at a problem. Only that there's always a high chance that they ARE the problem. I also love how intricate Mephisto is. His personality is deep and complex on a whole other abstract, alien level (literally) and I LIVE for that shit. (The eldritch horror thing is a huge bonus). I also have a very deep appreciation for dry, witty humour AND deep, philosophical discussions, so why wouldn't I like him? Lol.
Why I do not:
Let's all agree. There's a good kind of asshole. And a bad one. And while I love the sarcastic sassy asshole. I don't like the "mean for the sake of mean" asshole. On a lot of levels I don't think Mephisto is that kind of person on purpose but he is a serious jackass sometimes and his reasons for doing so are rarely apparent to anyone but himself. If that, even. I also don't like his tit-for-tat mentality but I do find it entertaining.
Favourite episode/scene:
Favourite scene is a toss up between him throwing Rin through a wall and his cloak-ey appearance in Gehenna. Though I liked him all the way through the Past arc.
Favourite line:
I loved him quoting Nietzsche, but I just can't forget the "you are worms" after tossing Rin through a wall. Im too lazy to find the direct quote.
Favourite outfit:
Love that man in a suit. Dark clothing brings out just how fuckin badly you do NOT want to run into him in a back alleyway.
OTP:
Eh. Don't really have one, but I pair him most often with Rin, casually with Amaimon and a little bit with Shiro in the past.
BROTP:
I think him and Azazel probably get along okay, and that he and Egyn have a secret past thing/strong comraderie (which has ZERO basis in cannon but it makes things fun). But more than anyone, I see him as being able to be bros with Rin. They aren't so different on the surface and they balance each other out pretty nicely - or they would, if Mephisto put in more effort. Not that I can blame him for not doing so. I genuinely think he and Shiro were friends and that Rin has just enough of his dad to pull at some old withered dead thing in Mephisto in a way he wouldn't like.
Headcanon:
Oh boy. I have a lot of those. One lesser known HC of mine is that Mephisto has mimics all over his house. Yes, THOSE mimics. Because a doorknob trying to eat you is exactly what he would find funny.
Unpopular Opinion:
Mephisto is a Scared Boy. I think a lot more of his actions, including ones that seem to be made in confidence, have their roots in fear. Fear of himself, more than anyone. He knows exactly who has ruined his life over and over and that person stares at him in front of a mirror every day. I also have a bone to pick with people who really try to "human" him up, but that's just personal preference for the macabre.
A Wish:
To see Mephisto lose his shit and be a mess. I want to know where that Ego breaks. What can he take. Im less interested in his powers and more interested in how he responds to the situation that requires him to use them. More than anything. I want to see this man cry. Sadistic I know but morbid curiosity.
A never-wish:
I never want to see the end of the series be "oops, I screwed up, time to start over!" Because it's too cliche and would be confusing.
5 words to describe him:
A Pain In The Ass
My nickname for him:
Jackass, and I guess, sort of Dionysus?
I'll come back to do UT later since this was longer than expected. Thanks for the ask! And sorry it took so long!

Any thoughts on the aoex chapter? We got to see how much Yukio resembles Shirou in battle, and the theorized Armumahael bullet to Rin's demon heart has happened. Yukio's comment about Rin being unstable has me worried...
Hello Anon! Sorry for the delay. :)
As it happens, battle-driven chapters don’t tend to have much to discuss. The only point worthy of interest in my opinion is this part indeed...
Tumblr media
...but it’s not exactly anything new.
We saw previously that when Rin’s sword broke and he ended up recovering more of his demon nature that he is sometimes unable to control his flames. In ch98, Shiemi managed to protect everyone from him and he fought within himself to recover some sort of control...
Tumblr media
but then he almost did it again upon witnessing the Blue Night events from 16 years ago. It’s Shiemi who helped once more, although they both have no idea, but still, that means that Rin’s current nature is clearly unstable.
Tumblr media
So, as long as Rin can keep his emotions under control then his flames will follow, but indeed some more provoking and attacks by Yukio could lead to a release of power that could cause a destruction similar to the Blue Night.
Which is precisely what Mephisto might be counting on, lmao, just saying, especially considering that Lucifer is still in the game and he can do a lot of damage as well. Besides, Mephisto is the one who gave the sword to Konekomaru and now Koneko is coincidentally (not) witnessing the fight between the two brothers.
Final point, please don’t forget that Satan is hoping for Rin as a vessel. So Rin getting more and more unstable would indeed make it easier for Satan to try and possess him (like it happened with Yukio: weak & doubting hearts are more subjected to demonic possession).
Then again, Yukio is able to resist the effect of his brother’s flames, so that’s why I think we’re slowly going back to events similar to the Blue Night, with Satan attempting to possess an out of control!Rin while Lucifer is raising havoc on his own side.
Maybe that’s when Yukio will realize that he’s got more things to do than just killing himself. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway, that’s all I’ve got! Have a nice day Anon!

I adore talking to everyone in the RinShi discord server ;o; like we can have complete hype about new chapters and discuss AoEx as a whole, but also being around others who equally adore Rin and Shiemi as individuals AND the ship is a irreplaceable happiness tbh
just wanted to make a post about how nice it is and I adore y’all

Shura x Mephisto
After reading and rereading the aoex manga, I’ve decided that Mephisto and Shura are involved in a demon contract.
Meph’s heart is inside of Shura’s sword.
This entire situation is problematic and I’ve got concerns.
1) Shura was abused by Hachiro. The demon raised her, but her upbringing was really messed up, Shura was the splitting image of Hachiro’s human crush, Tatsuko Kirigakure. Shura was reborn yet resembled her ancestor in likeness only, not soul.
 Even though Hachiro couldn’t consummate any relationship, he still yearned for Tatsuko. Yet, he killed her when she got too old, because she was simply a pretty human toy for him. Shura, once born, became another version of that toy. Hachiro was incapable real love and affection. He was only capable of ownership and that the women were possessions to him.
  Shura, despite the evilness of Hachiro, still had feelings for the demon. The feelings were confused, complex and unhealthy. like stockholm syndrome.
Once Shura was freed by Rin and Yukio (as Mephisto carefully planned,) she became free, but it was an awkward freedom. Shura had always been in a contract with a demon since birth. And now that the demon’s connection was gone. Shura would need to reinvent herself. Sometimes reinvention is terrifying, because it is the unknown.
 In a very wise fashion Shura turns down Mephisto’s offer of having a new demon inhabit the sword. She isn’t ready for that yet, she wants to try and experience life on her own terms, plus she needs time to mourn her old life, and get her head on straight.  Shura perhaps, was even thinking about leaving it all behind, to experience the life she’s missed, while preparing to die for demon that didn’t love her.
Tumblr media
MEPHISTO MEANWHILE SLIDES IN FOR THE REBOUND.
Instead of giving Shura the time to recover psychologically, Mephisto jumps in to replace Hachiro. He offers Shura “a demon’ to possess Fang, but this a demon trick, HE wants to possess Shura’s sword.  Shura, afterall, is perfect match for Mephisto; she’s a powerful warrior, used to demon contracts, and now missing a piece of herself that he might be able to replace. The broken piece left open by Hachiro.  He’s hoping that Shura grows attached to him and becomes the staunch defender of his heart (his life force)  He thinks, if push came to shove he can manipulate her into caring.
Tumblr media
 Meph being the careful planner that he is, got rid of Hachiro so he could have Shura and her sword for himself. He realized that such a thing was possible in Kyoto, when Shura backflipped off of him; Shura wanted to live, and was starting to feel love and attachments to humans around her. He’s seen love change the cold-hearted Shiro, maybe he can make Shura feel the same way about him?
Tumblr media
Still, I’m unsure why he’s suddenly fixated on her. What are Mephisto’s true motivations? We never really know. And things are not getting any clearer. I fully believe that Meph is possessing Shura’s sword. Does that mean he’s overpowering Shura without her consent? Or did they have some sort of reconciling discussion we haven’t yet been made privy to? It’s troubling to not know. From what we’ve seen so far Shura didn’t fall for any of his cheap lines or tricks, and no contract was agreed on. So, if Mephisto forced a partnership onto Shura that’s super low. He gave her a glimpse of a normal human life, and freedom, only to steal it away within days. It really pisses me off.
What’s his complete chessboard? His motivations?
Tumblr media
Does he need Shura for his own survival?
Does he want to make suffer for daring to stand up to him?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is it because he lusts after her?
Is it because demons strive to create unhappiness in humans and he wanted to ruin Shura’s
Does he actually care? Do demons care at all? Or is it all an illusion?
When Mephisto states that love is the illusion of attachment is he being contrary, as he tends to be. Is he breaking the forth wall and lying to us?
Tumblr media
What if Mephisto uses Shura, makes her believe that he cares for her and her wellbeing, only to try and sacrifice her like Hachiro?
Or....what if Mephisto’s unfeeling persona is all an act.....and in the end he does wind up caring about humans after all? One minute he says that he loves humans, the next it’s all smoke and mirrors. The entire manga, we don’t know if he’s good or bad. If he loves or doesn’t. The plot just keeps tying us up knots.
What if he’s competing with Lucifer? Lucifer and Mephisto are both interested in love and manipulating humans. Lucifer has Homare at his beck and call, and now Mephisto is trying to get Shura to do the same with less than ideal results.
Would Mephisto and Lucifer be that petty to compete with human women?
PROBABLY.

Is Satan absorbing the power of the demon kings ?
In chapter 134, we saw Satan carelessly destroy Astaroth previous physical incarnation, and something quite interesting happened :
Tumblr media
In this image, it looks like Satan is absorbing absorbing Astaroth's physical materials and using them to create his new body.
And at the end of the chapter it looks like Satan developped a new power :
Tumblr media
He started to use Roth. As if he kind of absorbed Astaroth essence and power at the same time as his body.
Can he do that for all of the demons kings (+emperors), absorbing their powers ?
Well, I think he already absorbed one more of them even before. Remember what type of powers he used against the exorcists :
Tumblr media
Lightning bolts. Which are a power of Air. And in which body did Satan incarnate : an Azazel clone.
Tumblr media
Conclusion : Satan already absorbed two demon kings and will be from now on able to use Roth and Air in addition to Blue Flames.
The Demon kings are part of Satan
This is something that some people already discussed about some time ago on the Discord servers. In the volume 19, we were given this chart :
Tumblr media
Mephisto states clearly that the Ba'als and the Sols are parts of Satan (or even alternative personnalities). Some people theorized that then Satan should have all the powers of the demon kings and Emperors in addition to his own blue flames. Well, it looks like those people were perfectly right. Yes, Satan can use the powers of all the kings and emperors (and possibly of all the demons).
An interesting question : can Rin do the same ?
In any case, I am practically sure we will see Satan aiming to absorbed all of the kings (at least those on his side), not caring that he would seriously harm or even kill them. I feel kind of bad for Lucifer.
Maybe he does not need to absorb Iblis and Armumahel to use Black and Red Flames, as there are already components of his Blue Fire.
Let's just hope there is one guy he does not manage to absorb, because if Satan ever gains Time powers, it will be game over.

I love it that someone will discuss aoex and the aoex fandom with me. If I ever overwhelm you or ask something tremendously stupid in the heat of the moment feel free to tell me to stop. Anyway, I hope we learn lots more about Shiro before this trip to the past ends, and that not all of it is bad. I also hope there gets to be some discussion and analysis about him as a result, because 'perfect papa Shiro' never did much for me and I'm loving seeing how long it took him to get his shit together.
No problem, I’m flattered someone wants to hear my thoughts :) There might be times where I’m too busy to answer for a while, but I’ll probably put up a little note of absence in that case.Ahhh yes, Shiro… My favourite. People following me might think Meph is my favourite, but he’s actually a close second. Meph is just so delightfully easy to mess with, you can drop him in any situation and it always fits. But Shiro- Shiro stole my heart. As a character, that is- If I met him in real life I’d probably slap him at some point (…that actually goes for several characters).He always struck me as the troubled guy with issues connecting to people, bound by invisible (demon) shackles and sporting some very unhealthy coping mechanisms, but good-natured in the end… But Kato took it a whole step further when she revealed Asylum though -.- Dayumn. For the longest time poor Shiro must have felt like he was merely imitating a human, not a part of them. Resulting in some lovely painful duality of wanting to belong and If-they-see-a-monster-I-will-give-them-a-monster.I’m really hoping we get some “new dad” moments at the end of the time travels- Like Shiro falling asleep in random places with his cassocks buttoned askew, a towel still over his shoulder and a baby toy sticking out of his pocket (I love him, thus he must suffer. In a character-productive way).That being said I’m still trying to recover from the fact that he was a ladies man. We all knew he was a horny bastard, of course, but I never expected him to be actually successful at it- I thought he’d be the guy who mainly gets drinks tossed over him a lot. xD I’ve been bamboozled.

Hi! Do you have any ideas about how AoEx will end? I'd like Rin to beat Satan and Meph to beat Lucifer. But because of the fight, Meph loses his body and disappears. Many months after everyone has resumed their normal life. Rin is walking on the street and crosses path with a stranger. He doesn't pay attention at first but the man's phone rings and the tune is an anime song, the phone is pink and has many kawaii straps. Rin is about to call out to him but suddenly loses sight of the man. The End
Thanks for the ask! What a fun question, and a really good headcanon! Thanks to that, I’m now in love with a complete stranger!
I however do think that S1 of the anime tells us a lot more of what will ~generally~ happen in the manga, but we’ll get far more development and details in the manga itself. Kato had a relatively active role in storyboarding and approving details of the anime episodes.It obviously follows the manga super well up until the forest fight with Amaimon, then anime creators had to start thinking of new ideas with the help of the author.We got the beach arc, where the exorcists defeated the kraken, but the details of the arc were a LOT different than in the manga. We finally heard Yuri’s name in the manga, and she is indeed the mother of the twins - I heard some speculation a while ago that Yuri was made up for the anime only. I think the details of her pregnancy were the only ‘made up’ part.
This leads me to believe that: As Yukio unlocks his powers, he will join the Illuminati.How this happens, him unlocking his powers and his initiation, are likely to differ greatly from the anime, so I’m unsure as to whether he will seek Lucifer and the Illuminati out first to help him bring out his demon powers or not.This makes so much sense for the anger and jealousy he feels toward Rin in the manga; Yukio is going to become a 'bad guy’ for a bit. It’s all part of his character development. It’s possible Yuri’s father, their grandfather, will also be a key character in the manga, and might take control of the Order like he did in the anime - he will likely be involved with the Illuminati (the anime foreshadowed this by putting illuminati symbols on the new weapons, and it was RYUJI who noted the symbol on the weapons too; I can see his shocked & concerned face in the anime still, he’s the only exwire who really knows about the Illuminati). If all that is canon, it would make sense that he appoints Yukio in control of taking over the Japan Branch; who’s to say not even Paladin to make Yukio feel validated (as a pawn, no less).
This would get far more in depth in the manga than in the anime, and we have no way of knowing what those details will ensue and how they will differ from the anime. Mephisto is gone, otherwise he wouldn’t allow this to happen to his Japan branch; perhaps he’ll be held by the Order or Illuminati on Lucifer’s instructions, or worse. Lewin is gonna have a freakin hay day with all this, and will likely be a key character (as well as Ryuji) in realizing the Order is being controlled by the Illuminati, and bringing it to Rin’s attention.
Maybe they will use Yukio and the power of all the absorbed/killed demons like they did in the anime to create another Gehenna Gate; maybe something is going to happen to Mephisto’s ability to keep the Gehenna Gate frozen in time. I believe that in the end, Lucifer will succeed in bringing Satan to Assiah, 99% chance through the body of one of the twins (who are a cross between one of Lucifer’s strongest clones, and Satan himself!). But in the end the twins will come together to end things, because #twinpower and #brotherlylove despite Yukio’s edgy angst and jealousy towards Rin. All part of his character development (good guy with problems turns antagonist only to come to self realization and help solve the Bigger Problem™).
I REALLY WANT a scene where Mephisto and Lucifer go at it (ideally going full demon form), and I actually kind of want Mephisto’s host to either die or be REALLY CLOSE to death. That might be what causes the Time barrier on the Gehenna Gate to fall. Mepho won’t be strong enough, or even alive, to keep it active.(Maybe he’ll get a new clone host at the end though so he can watch it all go down, he wouldn’t be Mephisto if he wasn’t watching and enjoying the show;)! )
~~~~~~~~
TL;DR - Kato helped foreshadow a lot of plot points in the Anime and shit is gonna get real dark, and really crazy.
let’s discuss complaints about AoEx Ch116 being “short”
I try to stay out of this, and people are allowed to be upset, but please take into consideration WHY the chapter was shorter than usual and let’s not act like or treat Kato like she’s lazy for it not being a 35-page chapter like usual.
if you feel called out by my post, I’m sorry but I’m not gonna sit here and ignore how rude some things I’ve seen said towards Kato are, which is very entitled and rude to complain about since she works all year long and we are who gets content and can enjoy a story because that hard work.
anyways let’s start
1) Kato was sick recently, so it affected her.
don’t believe me? read this month’s artist comment from her here
2) she was busy making revisions/adding stuff for Volume 24.
if the above wasn’t enough for you, please take into consideration she was finishing things also for the volume 24 release. releasing a new volume/Tankōbon is more than just throwing all the chapters from the magazine as is compiled together. Kato fixes errors, redraws panels and if you’ve ever noticed blank panels in the initial release, she usually draws new ones to fill those in. working monthly and schedules means at times these things she doesn’t have time to include in the magazine release, so she does when it’s time to release a new Tankōbon. but it’s more than that: there’s extras in them she adds, the cover art, little chibi art, etc, which adding color plus all that adds more time she needs to finish it.
3) she’s not a weekly mangaka, and even when a shorter chapter shouldn’t be compared to them.
those are the main reasons it was shorter, but let’s discuss this last point. just because you get upset at something, doesn’t mean you should call her or anyone “lazy” because it’s monthly and consider it less work than a weekly mangaka’s work they have to release. weekly mangaka are often overworked as is, and we should be glad Kato is given the time to also get to take care of her health along with making this amazing story we enjoy.
art isn’t easy, all except ONE month out of the year she continues to draw usually 35-pages each month, that’s a lot! and consider: she was sick and still gave us a chapter regardless of if short or not, she continued even while not feeling well. so maybe show more appreciation instead of getting entitled/calling her lazy because it didn’t meet your expectations? being sick isn’t fun, and it’s even less fun when you are trying to work while unwell and she still did. I know not everyone who was sad about the shorter chapter was complaining, and was just a bit disappointed and I do understand it. but to those who were mad and saying mean things, learn to have more respect for the person who is the reason we even have this story to enjoy each month. Kato is a human being, not some art machine who exists to please you, and it’d do some good to humble yourselves and show more respect and appreciation. that’s all I have to say, thank you to those who read this far. I don’t usually do these, but felt it only seemed fair that those who didn’t know, understand and try to show some respect towards Kato even when we might be disappointed/sad the chapter was shorter.
/end.
I've been looking through discussion threads about the last chapter of aoex and there's been several interesting things said, but one thing I keep seeing that has me scratching my head is that Rin has been too complacent recently. Like, really? First Rin is too reckless bc he made a scene without causing real damage and now he's too complacent bc he's been mellow and we'll behaved recently? Of course I could be missing something but not wanting to know about Yuri is not a crime.
Rin has been calm compared to Yukio, I suppose. And he doesn’t want to know about things, which frustrates readers because we want to know. Rin has shown/said multiple times that his approach to those sorts of subject is “what’s the point of knowing?” frankly he has bigger things to worry about. And, weirdly, Mephisto seems to be of the same thought.
In contrast to how he told Rin that he has “now earned the right to speak to me” and introduced himself officially as the King of Time he calls Yukio a “child on a journey of self discovery” and tells him he doesn’t have time to deal with him. It adds significance to his scene with Rin, that he views Rin as developed enough/worthy of actually speaking to him as a Demon King.
Demanding answers is what, from Rin’s perspective, caused Fujimoto’s death. He was asking questions about what was happening what was going on, why was this happening (which makes perfect sense, poor Rin had no idea what the hell was happening). Because he didn’t listen, because he demanded answers Fujimoto wouldn’t give, his father died. At least from Rin’s very self-blaming perspective, anyways. And as shown in the flashbacks of when they were younger it’s apparently a consistent thing, him not wanting to know things if he sees no point to it. Fujimoto didn’t want to answer, so Rin saw no point in asking.
Knowing wouldn’t really change the situation, from Rin’s perspective, it would only satisfy a curiosity that he holds (if he does). And as Rin rightly pointed out it’s probably not a nice story, so what’s the point of knowing? Even if it was something earth-shattering that would change his perspective on the True Cross Knights or something there would still be nothing Rin could do about it. Despite Yukio accusing him of not understanding his position Rin understands it very well. He’s powerless and living on a very short leash. Knowing about a tragic story of their origins is just more baggage, and it would have no use to him right now.
Lightning wasn’t wrong when he called Yukio selfish. In the bigger picture, and from Mephisto’s perspective and even Lightning’s, Yukio is throwing a temper tantrum over a selfish curiosity that has no bigger impact on the wider world when there’s a lot of other shit to be worrying about.
Not to dismiss Yukio’s feelings on the matter, not at all, but I can see why the adults keep brushing him aside. Though they would really not lose anything in just coming clean with the truth, unless they would for some reason. But from their perspective they have nothing to gain from telling Yukio, honestly. And Mephisto is the one holding the cards, and he’s shady as fuck so who knows what’s going through his head besides bullets.
Rin is actually a rather reactive character, in my view. He reacts to perceived wrongs and gets into fights, reacts to what’s happening around him, reacts to dangers to others. Reacts to when people say he should be executed or that Shiro wasted his life saving him. That he’s not clawing at every scrap of information so that he can know more isn’t inconsistent of him.
Besides, every time he has he has been punished. Usually with pain.
But he’s just naturally very reactive, not prone to doing things without a trigger. Even Amaimon and Mephisto comment that he’s restrained, which is why Mephisto sends out Amaimon to twist the knife so they could see what Rin could really do. If they had left him alone Rin wouldn’t have revealed his fire or his powers and he wouldn’t be suspicious for looking for answers because that’s not who Rin is. So Mephisto forced the issue.
When Mephisto and co. showed up at the graveyard Rin didn’t demand answers, he demanded that they allow him to take action (become an exorcist).
Rin doesn’t have the wrong of it, really. There are bigger things to worry about, like Assiah becoming a literal hell on earth, or Rin getting executed for being born. Wallowing in dark thoughts or screaming for answers from people who have shown on more than one occasion they don’t necessarily value Rin’s life let alone his right to know anything, won’t help him. In fact it’s pointless to know because even if it changed how he thought he has little to no power to do anything about it. If looking for answers hurts him or is just a waste of time anyways there is literally no point. So he moves forward.
And I agree that the whiplash of thinking Rin’s character is too much then not enough is unwarranted. The second Rin got a little support and affirmation he flourished, and even before that he was more than willing to still put himself on the line to do the right thing.
Rin hasn’t been complacent he, quite frankly, has his priorities in order considering the situation. He’s one of the most powerful beings in Assiah, and one of the few who wants to protect it, he doesn’t really have time to be stirring up trouble for curiosity’s sake.
Rin knows that they don’t consider him human, that he’s a weapon. You don’t give weapons answers or explanations. Yukio is beginning to see that and it’s driving him nuts that he can’t find answers he feels, rightly so, entitled to know.
working on the other asks but it might take me a bit to get to them, busy week for me in school
