🔥+jealousy bc i need to fuel my anti-jealous eddie tag

godd, i hate fandom's obsession with jealous!eddie. mostly because it's not even true to his character, because 90% of the time, he actually doesn't give a fuck about buck's relationships (beyond being protective when he thinks buck is gonna get hurt). and i've seen people say that him being jealous of buck/tommy is the only narrative device that can be employed to get him to realize his feelings, but i just...don't agree? for one thing, i'm firmly of the opinion that eddie on some level recognizes what he feels for buck, he just genuinely does not believe that he has a chance, regardless of whether buck is straight or not. for another thing, even if eddie weren't aware, i don't think jealousy is the correct device to use here because then the question arises (for me, at least), why wasn't he this threatened by buck's other (more serious) relationships? because we're tipping dangerously close back into the rhetoric that buck's relationship with tommy is So Much More Special and Amazing because tommy is a man, which, i think i've made my feelings very clear on how biphobic and misogynistic i think that sentiment is. and i don't think eddie is gonna automatically start wondering why buck isn't considering him as an option just because he likes men. i think eddie's issues with self-worth run way too deep for him to reach that level of...conceited? i guess is the word. anyway, all this is to say i just don't think it's true to his character lmao.

Eris taps the rocky wall of the cavern, humming a familiar tune that since the demise of the Hive goddess, she can't seem to recollect as well. The smoothness of her tone, it scratches the halls &. echoes as she feels for hollowness. The homeliness of her voice crackles like a record player, nostalgia so easy to be lost in.

She runs her thumb circular over her orb, looking to Khalom with a nod. Whenever she stopped the song is unknown, unforeseeable as it still seems to rattle around the room like it still plays. But it is absent, a hollow melody, a harmony killed with it's creator. There is only silence, aside from Eris' speech,

When the wall does crumble, Eris holds her orb to light the path of cobwebs. She slowly blinks, relaxed as if a loving cat were testing the waters of safety around it's owner.

❝ I must thank you again for venturing to the deep with me once more. ❞ She is content to just talk to herself while still addressing Khalom. The way Eris communicates is a series of thinking aloud as if she were the only presence, &. addressing others around her. ❝ Though, Guardians are walls to be leaned on. We are the inmost heart, a resolve so strong to power in despair, &. kindness with unshakable loyalty. We will sacrifice for our own &. beyond. We are all in the same vein. Is that not the oath the City swore ? ❞

Her prose is something she adopted in her solitude. Her fortress, where she needed such vivid descriptors to plant her roots &. survive. It may be hard to hear her words past what they are shown, but beneath is heartfelt.

❝ Following our severances on the Leviathan, &. the gathering of Nezarec's relics ... I wished to revisit the Lunar pyramid with new eyes. We both see the pyramid more clearly for what it is now that the vile plague of Nightmares has shifted to Calus' turmoil &. woes. Eris recognises this, &. she directs her point of interest to the still-Hunter.

Greek monster myths (1)

Various mini-articles loosely translated from the French « Dictionary of Feminine Myths », under the direction of Pierre Brunel. (You could also translate the title as “Dictionary of Female Myths” – the idea being all the myths centered around women)

Article 1: Gorgô

[Note: this mini-article is distinct from the mini-article about “Gorgons”]

The appearance of Gorgô, at the end of the eleventh chant of the Odyssey, is meant to cause fright – not just to Odysseus himself who is just done with invoking the dead, but also to the audience hearing this rhapsody (the Phaeacians listening to Odysseus’ tale), and to the very listener of the Homeric poem. Gorgô forms the dominant peak of this “evocation of the dead” (nekuia), she is the “chlôron déos”, the “green fear”. Odysseus’ mother, Anticleia, just disappeared back again nto the Hades – the hero wishes to summon other shades, such as those of Theseus and of his former companion Pirithous, “but before them, here is that with hellish cries the uncountable tribes of the dead gathered”. And Odysseus adds: “I felt myself becoming green with fear at the thought that, from the depths of the Hades, the noble Persephone might sent us the head of Gorgô, this terrible monster…” (633-635). It is barely an apparition, it is the possibility of an appearance, but it is enough to terrorize the living.

Jean-Pierre Vernant, in his work “La Mort dans les yeux” (Death in the eyes), establishes the link which ties together Gorgô and Medusa. Because Gorgô is more than a singular unification of the three Gorgons: she is a superlative form of Medusa, she is what happens when her petrifying gaze survives beyond death. By studying the depictions of Gorgô in ancient statues, Vernant establishes two fundamental traits: the faciality, and the monstrosity. He explains that “interferences” take place “between the human and the bestial, associated and mixed in diverse ways”. Maybe Gorgô is, as Vernant suggests, “the dark face, the sinister reverse of the Great Goddess, of which Artemis will most notably be the heir”. But Gorgô is also placed in the function of watchful guardian of the world of the dead, a world forbidden to the living. The mask of Gorgô expresses the radical alterity of Death and the dead.

Article 2: The Graeae

Daughters of Keto and Phorkys (they are thus also called “The Phorcydes”), sisters of the Gorgons, these divinities of shadows, which were born as elderly women and doomed to share one eye and one tooth for all three, appear exclusively in the tale of Perseus and Medusa.

The most ancient mention of the Graeae comes from Hesiod’s Theogony, which only counts two of them and names them Pemphredo and Enyo (Enyo was also the name of a goddess of war within Homer’s Iliad). The third of the sisters appears within a fragment of the Athenian logographer Pherecyde: Deino (“The Dreadful”), later called Persis by Hyginus (in his “Preface to fables”). Other authors, like Ovid, prefer to stick with two Graeae. Hesiod makes a quite flattering portrait of them: he makes them elegant goddesses with a “beautiful face”, even though they were “white-haired (understand “having white hair due to old age”) since birth”. And while their very name means “old women”, the Antique iconography actually follows the Hesiodic model: the depictions of the sisters as disfigured by the effects of time are quite rare… At most the artists will just put a few wrinkles. These mysterious hybrids between youth and old age, virginal seduction and sinister ugliness, finds an echo within a few lines from Aeschylus “Prometheus bound”: “Three ancient maidens, with swan bodies, that share a single eye and a single tooth, and who never receive a look from the shinng sun or the crescent of the night.” Aeschylus had an entire tragedy written about them (Phorcydes) which was unfortunately lost – but Aristotle wrote about it in his “Poetics” and implies that the play insisted on their monstrous aspect, placing them within the legendary area known as “the gorgonian fields of Kisthene”, and closely associating them with their sisters, of which they form a reversed image. Indeed, the Gorgons have a very powerful eyesight which no mortal being can face, while the Graeae have an extreme form of blindness. This trinity of women, old by nature, can also be understood as the antithesis of the three Charites, the Graces which embodied eternal youth.

The Graeae seems to have only a role within the myth of Perseus. And, outside of a few details, this legend does not change much from Pherecyde to Ovid’s Metamorphoses, passing by Lycophron, Apollodorus’ Bibliotheca, and Hyginus’ Astronomy. In all those versions the Graeae are the jealous keeper of the secret path that leads to the Gorgons, and Perseus must steal their eye in order to obtain the knowledge needed to reach Medusa. However, Pherecyde did change an element: according to him the Graeae do not protect the path leading to the Gorgons, but rather the path leading to the nymphs that hold the magical items Perseus needs to fight Medusa.

Due to their limited presence in Greek mythology, the Graeae have quite a poor cultural posterity. In the 19th century Goethe will remember them: in his “Second Faust”, Mephistopheles appears under the guise of “Phorkyas”, a monster with only one eye and one tooth. In the world of paintings, Edward Burne-Jones, who created a true “Perseus cycle”, had a strong interest for them: he worked for a very long time on a painting of the Graeae. Their face is barely visible, but the cloth that wraps itself around their body is menacing ; they are within an arid desert, under a dark sky heavy with clouds – they perform a sinister dance, in a mockery of the Graces. Perseus comes to steal their eyes, and the grey color that invades all the nuances of the picture symbolizes the unique presence of those strange crones, both disquieting and pitiable.

Article 3: Echidna

Echidna, “the viper”, is according to Hesiod the daughter of Phorkys and Keto, themselves born of Pontos, the Sea, and Gaia, the Earth. Echidna’s sisters are female monsters like her: the Graeae, and the Gorgons. Hesiod describes her as having half of the body of a “fair-cheeked nymph”, while the rest of her body is the one of an enormous, big, cruel, spotted and terrible snake which “lies within the secret depths of the divine earth”. Echidna as such belongs to this large mythological family of snake-women, of which the most famous case in France is the fairy Mélusine. But unlike Mélusine, Echidna can never leave the snake-half of her body, and thus a better French heir would be Marcel Aymé’s depiction of the vouivre with her cohort of vipers.

Theodore de Banville, when he imagines Hesiod scolding him for sanitizing Classical mythology, makes of Echidna the symbol of the archaic mythology: he tells him that he is “making a toy out of the history of the gods” by depicting Love as “a sweet child, free of carnivorous appetites, ignored by the Furies and by bloody Echidna”.

Echidna precisely appears as a being led by an amorous desire within Herodotus’ tales, that he claims to have collected among the Greeks of Pontus Euxinus: as Herakles was sleeping, Echidna steals his horses away. She only agrees to give them back if he sleeps with her. When Herakles leaves her, she tells him that she will bear three sons from their union. He advises them to only keep with her one that would be able to bend a bow just like him, and to force the others to leave. She does that, and this favorite son is supposed to be the one that created the Scythian people. This meeting between Herakles and Echidna might be derived from the famous encounters between Herakles and three of Echidna’s other children: the Nemean Lion, the Hydra of Lerna, and Cerberus.

In Aeschylus, Orestes compares his mother, Clytemnestra, to “a horrible viper”. Sophocles has Creon call Ismene, which he believes to have helped Antigone, “a viper that slid in my house against my will to drink my blood”. These examples show a link between the Ancient metaphorical speech, and the mythological allusions. Indeed, only the context can allow us to determine if these authors meant “viper” as a common name, or as a proper name: as “Viper”, “Echidna”. But it confirms the idea that, in Ancient Greece, Echidna is a monster born of an archaic fear of the women, and embodying their supposed perfidy.

okay tbh i don’t fully know what ‘this way’ means in this context lmao but i guess in terms of formatting i knew i definitely wanted to switch between eddie’s pov and buck’s pov, but that being said i think it was really important that the first three chapters were from eddie’s pov since i knew i wanted the boundaries talk to be from eddie’s perspective

from here it’ll alternate consistently but just chapter two i knew just didn’t feel as right from bucks pov

3. what’s your favorite line of narration?

oooh this is hard one, probably this snippet from ch. 3

The world around him is hazy, buzzing aimlessly in ambient white noise. He lets his body melt lazily into the mattress. Something akin to a soft cloud rolls over him, covering him with ease that melts against his skin like warm honey down his spine. For the first time in ages, Eddie feels completely at peace.

i feel like the aftercare bits are always my favorite and i thought this part was really sweet for all the crazy smut not just a couple paragraphs earlier

7. where did the title come from?

trust is one of the most important/prevalent themes in my fic and i think the title itself (a foundation of trust and love we cannot see) feels just like how i view buck and eddie’s dynamic

in bdsm being able to trust your scene partner is SUCH a massive part of a dynamic, without that there’s nothing really there

and with buck and eddie a part of their relationship is that they already know and trust in each other so implicitly and with such ease. it’s the foundation of their dynamic both in and out of their scenes

and well…the love we cannot see part. these two are idiots and don’t know they love each other (but that’ll change!)

Hello everyone, my name is Artemis and this is my (re) introduction to the writeblr community, I will try to use this account more since I'm trying to get back into writing!

Basic info ;

My name is Artemis, I'm 21 years old and my pronouns are she/her. I follow from my main blog @girltomripley !!

I'm Mexican, English is not my first language so I write most of my stuff in Spanish, but I sometimes translate it in case I want to share it with someone else.

Some of my favorite stuff: Taylor Swift, movies (my top 4: The Talented Mr. Ripley, Somewhere, Broadcast News, and Ghost World), Silvia Moreno García books, 60s-90s Hollywood, alternative rock music, Taylor Jenkins Reid books.

What I like to write about: Dramedy stories, often set in the 20th century, family drama, father/daughter relationships (bonus points if they're not actually related), road trip stories, characters of color, women leads, and queer relationships.

I am currently studying illustration and concept art in college, so other than writing, drawing is something I also enjoy doing (and I hope to share here as well).

While I don't post a lof of NSFW stuff (and if I do, I'll tag it), I'd prefer if you were at least over 16 if you want to be mutuals!

While I do have multiple of unfinished works in progress, most of them are just ideas or fanfics. My main WIP and probably the one I'll talk about the most is In the Angel's City:

In the Angel's City (drama) ; A hollywood story following a screenwriter and her search for answers behind the death of a famous star; all with the help of a retired actor who disappeared from the public eye.

Roadrunners (drama) ; Two childhood friends embark on a cross-country journey with a free-spirited young woman they just met, as a romance between the trio blossoms.

Andy You're A Star! (thriller) ; Things turn sinister for average Andy when he meets dark and mysterious James, who drags him along a murderous path (based on The Killers' songs!!)

Neon Bible (horror) ; A small town in Mexico is divided when the child of one of the most important families starts claiming to hear voices and see things that aren't there: half the town believes it must be the devil's work while the other tries to find a medical solution. The situation escalates with the arrival of a foreign guest, who clashes immediately with one of the most beloved and respected men in town.

Game & Performance (drama) ; Carmen, a problematic CEO of a makeup brand decides to escape to a Greek island with her husband after being accused of scamming her clients. Carmen worsens her problems by starting a relationship with a man much younger than her.

I wanted to post the whole thing as a little coda but i haven't written anything in years so it may take me some time to get this out. (Cut me some slack I'm cooking here) Anyways here is a VERY short snippet of what I'm calling "kinkley breakup because I said so

This he knows how to do, he always has, spent years practicing this exact skill, honing it to perfection. So what if the skin under his lips is a little tougher, the arms bigger and the shoulders broader? It's still just skin, it's still just human body. So Buck sucks on that spot at his neck, just a little, slowly trailing upwards behind his ear, to his jaw, lips scraping against the sandpaper stubble that sends a shiver down his back and finally, connecting with Tommy's lips, soft as that first time. Buck presses into him just a little more and once again, the churn in his stomach fades away, every twitch under his skin ceases, and every square inch of constriction around his lungs eases. He thinks he'll never get tired of this feeling, this release of decades long pressure. And if the catharsis still makes his eyes water just a bit, it's between him and his eyelids.

The ease dosent last of course, because Tommy's hand snakes away from his waist and to his chest, between them, and he pushes, simultaneously pulling away his lips, to murmur a soft "Evan."

He would have just pulled back and gave him another goofy grin, except he looks in Tommy's eyes and the set of his jaw that lookes so familiar it startles him and Buck's heart slips, along with his hands as he takes two full steps back.

Just as Buck can fight away the tendrils trying to creep around his lungs once more and tell them don't get ahead of yourself, it's probably nothing, Tommy takes the opening and slips out of where Buck had caged him between himself and the island, walking all the way to the sink to learn against it instead as he puts some space between them. His face hard and his eyes fixed on Buck. "We need to talk."

The intensity with which his insides twist makes him want to vomit, actually.

Buck for a moment considered that he was hallucinating but that dog bite and the fact that it's a full moon night makes him think of something almost unimaginable. "Eddie, did you turn into a fucking dog?" It was a stupid thing to ask considering he was talking to a dog but he got an answer, although not the one he wanted. "Bark, bark bark" " Yeah, very understandable Eds" Buck said sitting on the couch, the dog jumped and sat next to him. " I never thought you'd turn into a Teddy Roosevelt, I always thought of you as a big dog, maybe a German Shepherd but it's okay that you're a Teddy" Buck said petting... Eddie.
