Funnily enough, when I first pulled Kriemhild on JP, I got Lancelot right after her. And my first though wasn't "Oh lawd, he's coming for her too!" but rather, "Oh, he's come here too after spending time in NA working with Siegfried and I for so long. How nice of him to escort her."

Context: Those two I used back to back in Babylonia when it first released. Yes. They saw what happened there later.

Sure as hell was funny given I know how the writers treat him in events, but I am happy he trusts me enough to pull this off without me misinterpreting him.

Personally for me, the biggest issue is how its clear that Nasu is so proud of LB6 and it also turned out to be a big hit that now its FGO's safety net when they're doing badly. "Just give the fans something LB6, they're not looking at the shit we did wrong afterwards" - Nasu and Company

i mean, it's really not just LB6. it's certainly the biggest offender currently (and yes, i'm sure nasu+takeuchi do also genuinely like working with lb6, but there's too many other factors and incentives here and that's what i'm talking about), but FGO just does this every time they have a chapter that's a particular hit. there's always a variable cycle of "make campaigns calling back to popular chapter, make events calling back to popular chapter, make adaptation of popular chapter, make campaign for the adaptation of the popular chapter, repeat for next popular chapter". primarily but not exclusively, they wanked camelot to death, they wanked babylonia to absolute fucking death, they are currently wanking lb6 to death, and with the anime announcement i'm expecting shimosa to be the next one they're going to spend an entire year dedicated to beating us over the head with. not that it hasn't been called back to previously, i mean dedicated extended marketing campaign. 4 part campaign baby. watch your fuckin unskippable anime trailer cutscene in this 5 AP node to get a craft essence and then fuck off until next week, this is your content, buy our blu rays.

marketing reasons aside, in many instances it's also just a very easy and safe way for them to re-use assets and content to squeeze more profit out of the game.

but yes, FGO especially post-covid/sakura wars has a huge overall problem of relying on "i clapped when i saw it" type shit even outside of the biggest offenders (i hope NA is looking forward to Road to 7 after we got our own made up Road to 6). so the game feels like it's just constantly rehashing itself, rarely reaching meaningful conclusions or dragging out/undermining the ones it did, and behaving extremely predictably, plus by extension less frequently following up on things that could actually use even half the same level of followup.

these priorities are a part of the reason why despite this game being around for 8 years now it feels like there's still an unfathomable amount of shit left that was probably originally meant to be addressed, but still hasn't been addressed and probably never will be- aside from just "people know what this is, people will open their wallets" it's better to drag shit out forever, and just keep doing the same shit you know works, instead of ever letting almost anything be meaningfully resolved or wrapped up in order to keep people on the hook as long as possible with reduced effort.

the marketing cycle surrounding babyonia and camelot is singlehandedly responsible for me being unable to fucking stand those chapters anymore, and i used to very much like them, especially camelot, which was previously one of my favorites.

but, they have an extremely loyal fanbase, and this kind of thing appeals to both hardcore and casuals, so it works.

Astraea's Interlude aka Beating Forgiveness into Bedivere

Finally!! Astraea's Interlude is released in the NA version which means we get to help Bedi with his remaining hang-ups.

I suppose it's too much to ask for any more Bedivere appearances in the main story considering he already got a chapter all to his own, but I sure am going to jump at any chance to see him in other events, so I'm super glad I got Astraea during this year's Valentines. Now onto the Interlude!

Long post, so I'll put it all below under the cut, and this goes without saying, but spoilers for Astraea's Interlude and general Lostbelt and Camelot Chapter plot points!

Right from the start of the 2nd segment which features Bedivere, there is already one detail that tears at my heart - this background of open fields is the same one as Bedivere's own Interlude, because it's the view which reminds him of his failure to save Princess Helena from the Giant of Saint Mont Michel. I'm not sure how intentional it is, but I'm fairly sure this was a deliberate choice.

Before we get to resolving Bedi's issues though, Astraea comments on Ritsuka's first. Another similarity between Ritsuka and Bedivere, really, the fact that they feel guilt for something they've done/are doing and man Ritsuka needs a LOT of therapy when all of this is over.

Oh, btw...I never noticed it before, only when I read TV Tropes, but the nickname "Bedi" isn't actually used in game during Camelot. Merlin does use "Bedi" if you ask him about sending Bedivere in the Babylonia chapter, but not Ritsuka.

Ritsuka calls Bedivere that in the movie adaptations though, and it got backported into the game in this Interlude. (I do have a bit of a laugh at that, the fact that Ritsuka/Gudao nicknamed Bedivere in the movies and Bedivere just rolled with it, no questions asked).

What you do have the choice of calling Bedivere once in the Camelot chapter is "Beddy".

"Beddy" makes me think of "teddy" in teddy bear lol. Teddybear - Bedivere sound awfully similar now that I think about it...

Cue me jumping in the background saying, "How was he to know it was going to turn Artoria into a jerkass goddess??"

While it it true that the Lion King is a truly warped existence of Artoria...poor Bedivere never heard her last words, if he did maybe it could have relieved him of his guilt, but he already dissipated by the time the Lion King said this.

In a strange way...Bedivere actually did save something of himself in making that choice, because it led him to meeting Chaldea and in turn, being heroic enough to be recorded in the Throne of Heroes. But of course he wouldn't see it that way.

The fact that Ritsuka's dialogue choices are pretty much screaming "Don't beat yourself up for this!" tho - gahh, my heart!!!

I would have to be willfully blind to ignore the terrible things in Camelot, because so many people did die (Rushd's mother just being one of them) but I stand by the fact that Bedivere did nothing wrong, ever.

All half-jokes aside, I think it would be more painful to have caused so much damage when you did it with good intentions.

...I really don't like it, but I guess beating self-forgiveness into Bedivere is a good option at this point.

In this battle, Bedivere starts out with "Feeling Guilty" which lowers his ATK and DEF every turn. Also, I defeated him quickly with the Asvatthaman I borrowed, but I don't think he uses Calm and Collected, he only ever used Oath of Protection as a skill.

Astraea says a lot of stuff here, but basically it goes, "Uh, no, man. We're here to help you. You're good."

I'm not quite sure I agree with everything Astraea said here, but in this case what Bedivere really was looking for was absolution. Taking into consideration his character as the knight of loyalty, I guess he couldn't get rid of the nagging feeling that a punishment had to be handed to him, it's the only way he could make up for his mistake. Though really, he's not alone in that regard, Lancelot and Tristan have the same mentality when it comes to their failures to their King.

I do wish all of the KotR will be allowed to move on from that hang-up, but time will tell if they'll get that character development. Mordred seems to have moved away from that fixation with Artoria in her writing out of all of the KotR I currently have.

And we finally get to this point - the matter really was Bedivere's remaining sense of regret.

I wonder if canonically, Astraea suplexed Bedivere before giving him this therapy talk. Must have been one heck of a therapy session.

Ha, but Bedivere poking fun at Astraea is great.

And seeing him smile at the end is so sweet!

Ahhh, and the fact that when Astraea compliments Bedivere's show of courage, Ritsuka sounds so proud, like, hell yeah, that's my boy!!!

We love and support our one armed silver knight in this household...even if the love and support comes in the form of justice suplexes at times. So glad to finally see this Interlude play out but uh, I actually have to finish it and see if there's any more Bedi appearances lol, I was way too excited to post my thoughts that I haven't even finished the whole thing lol. And even then I pretty much hit the limit for images in one post, whoops. This scene was just too good though, I feel bad for cutting out some of the screenshots because it's already so long as it is.

So how did you enjoy reading FGO Summer Camp for NA, especially with the EMIYA scenes?

Personally I enjoyed them a lot, his inner Shirou showing, and his interactions with other characters were a great source of entertainment.

if i'm being honest, it wasn't as good as i expected it would be. while i do enjoy the occasional horror story and was entertained by the horror gimmick of the event story, i found the characterization here incredibly flanderized, and the twists in the story weren't as impactful as they were cracked up to be.

i do not think it was all that clever to give us a child kiara if the only thing that did was create a non-mystery about her identity. the player knows she's kiara. there's no need to beat around that bush, because they also put her summer version in the gacha knowing she was already pretty popular. and then there's the flipside of that problem. that guda once again meets kiara bears absolutely no meaning, at least from my perspective, because guda still cannot recall the events of SERAPH, and therefore there is no meaningful development of the relationship between the player character and kiara. if guda had been amnesiac about SERAPH, and then remembered its events when confronting kiara at the end of the servant summer camp story, maybe that would've been more compelling. perhaps servant summer camp was more informative to people who did not play ccc and did not know about kiara's inclination towards hans christian andersen's fairy tales and her more endearingly childish and innocent side. but to those of us who were already aware, it doesn't really give us anything new that re-contextualizes that trait in an interesting way. and maybe this is just me, but if child kiara and adult kiara had had a dynamic like that of minidusa and gorgon in babylonia, i would've enjoyed it a lot more.

however i do think there's something relevant and well-executed in xu fu's introduction and her relationship with yu meiren. it does carry parallels to the main story, where we found out specimen E was experimented upon by being exposed to all kinds of human-designed violence in an attempt to understand and harness it. xu fu attempting to inflict mortality upon yu is a way of grounding the divine, a theme present in the entirety of cosmos in the lostbelt. there is also the theme of unintended consequences born from a disturbingly innocent cruelty, as if to remind us that these epic apocalyptic events in fgo are the result of human flaw, often human flaw mixing with good intentions, rather than something alien or unfathomably evil. that's also an idea originating from the visual novel, and it's still quite good here.

and yeah, though they weren't particularly deep, it was really nice to see moments where archer just lays back a bit and acts like the young man he didn't get to be. it really shows that deep down all emiya shirou, no matter the name or form, really wants is to be someone his loved ones can depend on. seeing archer be unironically and unapologetically helpful is heartwarming. it really shows just how far he's come in his journey from being a person who hides his desire to be good behind his bitterness to becoming someone who will vocally refuse to turn his back on anyone who needs help. seeing him get giddy and excited over old hardware also healed 5000 points of hp, cleared all debuffs, increased my np gauge by 100%, and gave me 5 stages of overcharge on my np. remember to thank your hakunos for the malewife therapy.

Given I've played JP, and next year on NA's going to be the story-locked events year, don't get your hopes up on anything.

They showed Constantine when announcing it, so it might have to do with him rather than Kriemhild. But I fully expect nothing but a single throwaway line in regards to Traum's requirement.

Or heck, just a single servant's appearance, like Charlie's third ascension.

Because that's all the story-locks on the events wound up being during the Road to Lostbelt 7. A giant nothing-burger used as an excuse for egging the players to go through story chapters.

I went and disappointed myself during that year thinking they did work on the events to tie-in with the story locks, so try not to be me next year. Ha...

Part of me wants to spite them for it by skipping some events...

True, Con’s appearance for the announcement might mean he might appear or even take part of the future Christmas event, however I'm like, 50% or more sure he's there as just a representative than anything (even though last time I checked, that was Charlie's job, so ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯). I've seen a few people on the subreddit theorizing that it might address Holmes’ lack of presence and focus on Kadoc, both of which happened in Traum, but looking at previous story-locked seasonal events, the most might just be third ascension Charlemagne for like, 3 seconds.

And yeah, the Road to 7 thing was blatantly hurrying players who were behind in the story to catch up in it, to less than good results… Granted, there's already a case of “locked behind a story chapter that has no connection to said story chapter”, with the current GudaGuda being locked Heian-Kyo and having nothing to do with said chapter.

(Also, side note: I know quite a few people are speculating on Santa Kriemhild bc of Trauma lock, but looking at the previous two locked Christmas events, most likely not. I don't remember Quetz having anything to do with Russia and Altera/Atilla with Babylonia, so whoever is Santa is still a giant question mark so good news HADAW there's still a sliver of hope for Santa Junao.)

Babylonia Section 1 & 2

Babylonia here at last... With the prologue driving a dangerous start to everyone, it's time to clear and head to the final Singularity before 2018 ends!

Section 1

Somewhere before the Gudas... Looks like in a demon lair, humans  got devoured getting devoured by a mysterious being while talking to another about destroying Uruk. And their own plans by the Three Goddess Alliance to take the grail and rule the world...

Welp finally back at the Gudas, looks like we're skydiving from high above! Which the cause of it was a strange tampering by someone when we rayshifted here...

While discussing on the whereabouts since we got kicked from the actual place in Uruk, time to deal with six Rider-class Uridimmu!

They aren't dificult as usual once you should already have majority of your Servants at the maximum level. Only irritating thing is their painful crits

Once those things were killed, Gudas definitely acknowledge the enemy mobs as unknown creatures they've never seen before. Aside from turning the group into their own food, Romani concluded the strange enemy mobs are outright killing all humans

As we're to leave... Looks a certain goddess decided to drop by and say hi. Or rather outright bang the Gudas into a vehicle accident. And since she won't share her name or the item she dropped, time to deal with reinforcement of 5 Uridimmu and 1 Ushumgal!

Well with that done... So much from getting an easy way out from the strange lady. Though Doctor Roman... Looks like he know the idenitity, but that's for later as we head to the east! With 9 out of the 60 demonic beast coming at our ass!

Expectedly, things don't just end there... But, another person come to help the Gudas this time! Yes, Gilgamesh's best friend has come to save the Gudas! :D

Yeah for some strange reason... That's a fucking overpowered NPC Servant that's supporting us if you did choose NPC support.. Who cares, Enkidu is still willing help us unlike that flashy lady >.>

After the fight, we learned more details of Enkodu... And even get to teach them how to handshake with us! First chapter, I'm already enjoying how the story is turning out :D

Section 2

After clearing 7 Mushussu, 1 Stone Golem and 1 Bladed Insect... We've arrived at a forest far from that demon den. Enkidu begin to explain further on what's happening in Babylonia where humans began to extinct, instantly concluding that it's AUO fault here.

But turns out, looks like the location of the grail is unknown. And it's the gods that's trying to destroy humanity...?! And well... Even the northen wall is at chaos too... Holding for six months from what Enkidu said...

Though somehow, Enkidu said something strange which caught both Fou's and Guda's attention. And also lastly, a plan to meet King Gilgamesh in aiding him while getting the Holy Grail.

Hours later, we reached Cedar Forest and when things were getting suspicious because of the Guda headed... A very FAMILIAR white hooded figure and a black hooded girl joins in. And after the introduction... It turns out if by the strange white hood figure's memories were correct... THAT'S NOT ENKIDU WITH US AT ALL?!! BECAUSE THIS IS TAKING PLACE RIGHT AFTER GILGAMESH RETRIEVE THE HERB OF IMMORTALITY WHICH IS RIGHT AFTER ENKIDU DIED!!

And as it turns out correct, "Enkidu" finally reveals their true color before the crew. We're to be set for food to "Enkidu's" mother until this Ana girl joins as NPC support to help them!

First round with "Enkidu", they're using their extra attack instead. And they aren't using any skills for this fight, so do kill them to end this battle ASAP

Back with Ana VS "Enkidu"... Looks like things were lucky with the crew escpaing from their clutches via Illusionary dreams. With the hooded figure confirmed "Enkidu" reverted back to their cruel nature... He gets a good kick in the face by Fou

Things turned to a new spin now that the infamouos cock-wizard is finally here. And more details how do you actually sign up to be a Grand Caster via Clayviorance.

After more details in confirminng that's the Real Merlin... If you do bring the NPC support inside for this arrow, you'll be doing Romani a good favor by letting cock wizard getting stomp by the giant dragon :D

Anyway, looks like we're heading to Uruk to either see th king or set up the summoning circle ASAP. The Gudas also managed to bond a little with Ana here despite her dislike towards humans.

While heading to Uruk other than that one epic HUMONGOUS CG of AUO in the sky, more details about Uruk unfold by Merlin. And also, the summary of Fate version of Epic of Gilgamesh by both Mash and Merlin...

With Guda pondering in fear at the meeting of King Gilgamesh, looks like Ana again found 3 Mushussu, 3 Bladed insect, 1 fucking Chimera targeting at us

Last arrow in Visual Story mode, we finally reached Uruk after 3 days. Scared me for a moment when the soldier caught guard of Ana... Seems like they were nice to give her food after complimenting her abilities despite her small stature... Fuck I'm going to cry if he died at the end since he still have a family to care for... :'(

By the bustling crowd and Merlin smack-talking down at Romani... The city continue to held their head high despite the impending doom... What a strange twist despite it coming from the tyrannical ruler AUO himself
