literally just a list of my favorite webdramas and short-run tv dramas bc this is my house
My Fuxxxxx Romance (2020)
messy not-really love triangle where four people become friends in a bar. two of them start screwing around while the guy prefers open relationships and the girl's friend is hella toxic and in love/obsessed with her so she starts sleeping with the guy to prove he's shitty. the 2nd guy is there to be the foil/naiive one that's new to this whole world tbh. it's just a really great drama where there isn't a single character you're meant to like or cheer for. they're all sucky people in their own way lol. anyway, it was literally made around and to promote Park Won's album of the same name.
Please Find Her (2017)
it's CUTE, it's an ad for Itaewon, you learn some Korean at the end of every episode lol. about a mixed Dutch man named Jan who flies to SK to find the girl he fell in love with. the plot's a little all over the place, but it's an ad. and it's cute >:( Lee Hyun Jae is the love of my life. Hayoung and Hyungwon are there
You Raise Me Up (2021)
a man is going THRU IT with his life and self confidence and anxiety and everything genuinely sucks for him. his urologist and old gf (Hani) brags about him being this super amazing and jealousy-worthy first love bc her current boyfriend sucks. lots of emotional vulnerability and growth. i love it sm
The Witch's Diner (2021)
honestly this one's just fun! i love every single main actor, i love the dark witchy aesthetic. each ep follows a different main subject who needs their lives fixed in some way. but ofc if you make a deal with the devil/a witch, it's not gonna go exactly how you expected. idk i love this one, it's got my mother Song Ji Hyo in it
Little Mom Scandal (2008) and Little Mom Scandal Season 2 (2008)
a very old one that i watch yeeears ago but it still holds a special place in my heart. super real, less fairy-tale idealistic romance, as most 2000s dramas were. it's about an 18-year-old teen mom and her struggles with raising a baby, being a wife, and trying to live her life. the friendships in this one are what stuck out the most tbh. they're the primary focus, despite the title/attention grabber.
Birthcare Center (2020)
this one's about a successful career woman who suddenly finds herself pregnant. she spends the time after giving birth in a birthcare center, common places for moms to get help when starting out. she's self concious about being much older than the other women but makes a bunch of friends in the other mothers who have stories and struggles of their own and she actually has a healthy relationship with her husband. we love to see it. uh, found family :( <3
The Killer's Shopping List (2022)
about a guy who has an incredible memory and is locally praised for stopping a dangerous robbery when he was a kid but struggles to pass his civil service exam. he's determined to make it while working at his mom's convenience store. but a murder happens at the apartment building he frequently delivers to and they're huge suspects bc the delivery bag at the victim's house. so he, the market workers, and his cop gf (Seolhyun) try to solve the serial murders themselves. it has good queer rep imo, not gimmicky but not so subtle it might as well not be there.
Our D-Day (2023)
big tw for suicide mention, attempts, and ideation. tw for abuse, as well
it's still airing! one week left. but it's about a suicidal 30-year-old and his friends all trying to navigate their lives. he literally spends the entire drama so far trying to figure out how to end things and you slowly learn why throughout. it's pretty dark right from the beginning tbh but they balance it with humor that might not be everyone's taste. tbh it just feels real to me, so that part doesn't personally bother me. i do know why it would affect someone else, though. definitely not for people sensitive to the subject matter.

Birthcare Center - 8/10
There was SO much that I loved about this show. It's very funny and visually it's extremely witty and clever- super engaging. And the content is a pretty thoughtful exploration of the difficulty of balancing becoming a mother while also not losing your sense of self. How do you find that balance between maintaining your own happiness while also having this whole new person in your life that you're responsible for? And also just like, all the overwhelming information about the "right" way to be a mom and the mom judgement etc etc. All incredibly worthy topics that are explored with the care they deserve.
Tumblr media
Legit, this could have been a 9/10 or 10/10 show for me. It's about a group of very different women with different life experiences and perspectives all in a post partum care center. (Is this a real thing that exists btw?) And they learn about each other and come into conflict with each other and like it's all about their interpersonal relationships and their own journeys as mothers. A+++ material.
HOWEVER, OH MY GOD. The fatphobia in episode 4???? Holy shit, it was bad.
There is a plot in episode 4 that revolves around an actress who has gained a lot of weight through her pregnancy and is now afraid to leave the center because of the judgement of the press. And like there's a sequence that is supposed to be ~hilarious~ where the character is soooooo fat that she gets stuck in a massage chair and a whole group of women have to like gather round to try to yank her free. And of course instead they have the actress playing this fat character in a HORRIBLE fat suit. THEY EVEN GAVE HER FAKE FAT HANDS!!!!! It was an Uncle Jack from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia situation. It's not commented on by other character so it's not like some plot point where like idk her fat hands meant she couldn't dial a phone or something. But when you see this character talk on the phone it's like BAM THERE ARE THESE OBVIOUSLY FAKE RUBBER HANDS.
Other than that nonsense, the show is actually really compelling. The female lead, Hyeon-jin is an older mother (40 years old) who was recently promoted to a director position at her job. There's a lot of tension within her about how to be a good mother while not forgetting herself and her desires. I also thought the relationship with her husband was very sweet. Then there's Eun-jung who is married to a professional golfer and already a stay at home mom to twins and is in the birthcare center after giving birth to her third child. She's the Queen Bee among the moms and has a seemingly perfect life and family on her social media accounts. Ru-da is the third main mother we meet. She's young and unmarried with a lingerie line and often butts heads with Eun-jung. It's a good mix of character types and watching them grow as characters via their relationships with each other is some GOOOOOOD SHIT.
Too bad about the egregious fatphobia.

TAG GAME
Tagged by @nihilizzzm TYSM
Favourite colour: millenium pink, always (that slightly salmon colored pale peachy pink that's everywhere these days, yes).
Last song: "Welcome to the Black Parade"
Last movie: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Currently watching: One Piece live action. It is not half-bad, actually, though I have not seen the anime it's based on.
Other stuff I watched this year: LOTR, The Hobbit Trilogy, Wilfred, Welcome to Waikiki, The Fabulous, Birthcare Center, Kimi Ni Todoke (live action and anime), Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Dr. Cha, A Crash Course in Romance, Full Time Wife Escapist... As you can tell I went on a bit of a K-drama and J-drama kick before I got back into LOTR and The Hobbit. A Crash Course in Romance and Kimi Ni Todoke were lowkey inspiration for my current LOTR WIP, too.
Shows I dropped this year: I stopped watching Welcome to Waikiki 2... It's fun but after a while you realize that all the humor revolves around the characters' immature behavior. I also started Hospital Playlist but got distracted by LOTR.
Currently reading: rereading LOTR, currently on The Two Towers.

It's amazing how any time you ask for kdrama recs we've already watched and loved the same ones!! (Esp looking forward to Uncanny Counter!!) But if you still want recs I have a few: since you like UC, "Mystic Pop Up Bar" and "Hotel Del Luna" (less action but still abt dead ppl & magic & family! Suicide cw for both, Del Luna's a bit darker than Pop Up). "Birthcare Center" is silly but heavy but SHORT abt women who just had babies n focuses on their camaraderie (Cw for mentioned baby death). (1/3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i started hotel del luna but haven't finished it but i didn't dislike it. i watched birthcare center and i LOVED it. i liked business proposal although i watched it right after crash course and i definitely liked crash course much more and felt the romance in ccir was baked a little longer. i'll see if i can find my shy boss and love alarm. i KNOW where i can find mystic pop up bar tho thank you <3 <3

hii! you seem to be knowledgeable about kdramas and i was wondering if you could recommend me some whose plot doesnt revolve around romance or has little to no romance at all. i'm fine with whatever genre! thank you in advance (annd it's okay if you dont want to answer this::)
hiii…… for a starter most of netflix original dramas are romance light so i won't mention them here except for one…. here's few ones that aren't romance based plots:
move to heaven (2021) this one is a hidden gem that got little love despite all the rave it got from those who watched it! a slice of life drama… avengers social club (2017) three old ladies who have comes from different backgrounds come together to take revenge to those who wrong them in their own methods… king of pigs (2022) a great thriller mystery about a man who was bullied as a kid returns to take his revenge against those who wrong him, one of the best 2022 dramas so far… birthcare center (2020) a short good slice of life drama about becoming a mother and what comes with that…. doctor prisoner (2019) a revenge drama, with an intelligent lead who is always ten steps ahead of the antagonists!!! my mister (2018) a slice of life about the life of a 20s girl and a man in his 40s along with his siblings, a healing comforting drama navillera (2021) about a ballet dancers, a friendship that occur between 20something boy and and an old 70 old man who want to be a ballet dancer, a heartwarming drama!!! solomon's perjury (2016) students who decide to uncover the truth about a fellow student death, was it a suicide or a murder! strangers from hell (2019) a great thriller drama, a man turns into madness when he move to a cheap hostel filled with creepy other residents the cursed (2020) from the writer behind "train to busan" "hellbound"! a great thriller one... the guest (2018) a horror drama! a masterpiece one…. work later, drink now (2021) a friendship between three ladies, the title is a bit misleading though……….
CAN’T BELIEVE I FORGOT THIS ONE..
inspector koo (2021): a drama with mouse and cat setup, and strong ladies as protagonist and antagonist ....

[ Ruang Refleksi ]
Haii 2023.
Gak kerasa yaa, waktu berjalan sangat cepat.

Oh My Baby. 7
Story: 7
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 8
Comparable to: Jo Jo’s World (twdrama ) Birthcare Center (kdrama)
As does a lot of dramas in this genre it starts out with a bang but then starts to fizzles out around midway. This is a cute romcom in a way that could’ve been much better if the writers didn’t stretch it out nor go that predictable cliche route that they did. Nonetheless it’s a Jang Na Ra series so for me she always brings her A game and in this she just as awesome.

New Netflix show req:
Birthcare center
Tw: pregnancy/childbirth death
A K drama. While the beginning is a bit rough with a lot of the normal forced mother stereotypes, the show ends with a more positive and modern message to motherhood.
8 episodes 1 hour a pop.
