I wanted to hold off on writing anything about Radar until the double “Goodbye Radar” episode

could see it coming up in the episode lists, although I am trying my best not to look ahead, but it sprang out to me, probably because I was also expecting it to happen soon, so I was definitely doing a little sad, but feeling like it was the right time, countdown in my head

I wasn’t sure how I’d feel, as the show has been gently writing Radar out for a couple of seasons now, and overall I think he’s possibly the character that got the shortest end of the stick in terms of allowing his character to grow and change, so it felt right for him to leave the story

that’s something I’m seeing even clearer now that I’m doing my simultaneous rewatch -- the innocent farmboy didn’t really become quite so innocent until further down the line, and unfortunately he was never fully allowed the ability to consistently grow up (how many times did he lose his virginity only to seem shocked at the idea of sex the next episode?) It wasn’t only that he was more stagnant than the others by s5/6, but that he seemed to ping-pong between two slightly different characters depending on what an episode needed

that being said, I really do like Radar’s character. I liked especially when he got to be competent, and was recognised for that. I liked that he was a very solid presence at the unit, specifically because he was competent, and I liked what he represented in the story (not the innocence so much as the importance given to a character who wasn’t larger than life in some way).

Was a big fan of the episode where they introduced BJ, when Hawkeye and BJ snuck him into the officer’s club and later Radar saved a girl from a minefield. I feel like that context makes BJ’s goodbye to him feel even more lovely -- they really met under extreme circumstances (and now Peg is going to pick him up at the airport)

I loved his relationships with Henry and with Potter. If I imagine him post-MASH I think those are the two who affected and inspired him the most, and Potter crying when saying goodbye to him is exactly right. It’s odd, now that he’s gone, I feel like the last bits of Henry are gone too in a way, because they complimented one another (and of course, he holds up the thermometer that Henry gave him, invoking a double loss by remembering Henry’s last story as we watch Radar go)

I very much liked several scenes he had with Hawkeye, where there was a certain fond older-brotherliness to how he treated Radar, ex. when he gave him the purple cross and saluted him, and that one episode where they talk about their parents being a widow/widower -- and Hawkeye has saluted him twice now! I think the only official non-joking salutes we’ve seen Hawkeye give so far? (I may be misremembering) and it’s for Radar, someone who often might be considered unimportant in Big Tales and Heroic Deeds, as war (and mythology) often is. A Samwise Gamgee type character

I also feel like I remember that Radar once asked Sid whether it was normal for a grown man to still have a teddy-bear and Sid suggested (in a non-judgemental way) that while it was very important to him in Korea, he might not feel the same way once he was home again... and now he’s left that teddy-bear to Hawkeye, arguably the character who needs some comfort and assurance the most...

And of course, now that he’s gone the only characters left from the beginning are Hawkeye and Margaret (and Mulcahy technically). There’s something about Radar leaving that feels like an end to the middle of the story and the beginning of the end (an end that is nearly four seasons long -- I’m still placing the show into a structure of course, I won’t know until the story is finished really... and boy, if I’m crying like this at Radar leaving, I don’t think anyone should let me watch the actual final episode, I’ll be crying throughout all of s11. People won’t have seen me like this outside of Lord Of The Rings)

I feel like on a meta level Hawkeye is carrying that knowledge too, but that’s also likely to be my (by now) insane intense projection onto him. Hawkeye really is Bearer Of A Narrative unfortunately, no wonder his posture is so bad

And then, simply, I cried because nobody could give him a proper goodbye, and isn’t that just a small cruelty amongst big cruelties? They’d baked a (probably disgusting) cake and everything! They were going to throw a party! And instead the story/war didn’t give them that little kindness, before reminding them all why they were there, so all they could do was make their goodbyes as sincerely meant as possibly in the shortest amount of time.

and then he was gone, just like that. Good-bye Radar

Sidenote: wonder if people in the 70s were holding their breath in case the show killed Radar off like it did Henry -- I knew it wouldn’t and I was still feeling that anxiety (and isn’t that meta too....)

tag meme: my top 9 characters

i was tagged by @regallibellbright so with no particular order lets get into it

I have decided to not put any characters of my own here because then this list would be filled with my characters and nothing else

also only one per series since i want this to be an overall representation of my favorite characters

1.Phosphophyllite/Phos (land of the lustrous)

Phos is by far one of my favorite characters due to how they change throughout the series

also watching them suffer is what got me my permanent angst craving

phos is one of those characters that unfortunately due to being by far the most popular character in the series the fandom tends to dislike every other character in the series (particularly in this case since a lot of the other characters have mistreated phos in some way) which i think is a disservice to those characters

but phos is still my favorite

2.Blake Thorburn (Pact: Devils and Details) (no art for him because im too lazy to ask for permission to put him here and i dont want to put a piece of art on my post without permission)

ill be honest it was hard to pick if Taylor or Blake were going to be put here, since i didnt want to put two wildbow protagonists here, and while Worm was much more enjoyable for me to read i think Pact was a much more memorable story for me,

Since like blake struggled through the horrors, i struggled against decaying attention span

In general i gravitate toward fantasy stories more than superhero stories

3. Eve and aoi (birdie wing golf girls story)

hey remember a second ago when i was debating over which wildbow protagonist to put here because i didnt want to put both

Yeah fuck that these two are a pair because i love them both and refuse to seperate them

These two are genuinely one of my favorite protagonist duo's ever

like they are so funny with their insane antics and golf

4. Yuki Takamiya (thirteen sentinels aegis rim)

this one proved to be really hard to decide between Yuki, Okino or 426 since they are all favorites

i decided that it was best to fit one of the protagonists into this since it would be hard to talk about the other two without spoiling anything and needing a ton of context

from the second Yuki showed up i knew she would likely be a favorite

what i didnt expect was for her to be arguably one of the smartest characters in the game

I would say out of the protagonists she is the second smartest with Gouto being the smartest

Like i did not expect her route to be a detective story

5. Power (chainsaw man)

first person on this list who isnt a protagonist, and i did consider putting Asa instead of her and while i am undoubtedly more invested in Asa im also much more entertained by power

also i need to put one character who isnt a main character here lest i be seen as a basic bitch

6. Sayeon Lee (hand jumper)

we only have one season of her but this girl is so mentally unwell its like catnip to me

im eagerly awaiting the start of season 2

also to my surprise me reccomending vibes this webtoon caused a bunch of wormblr people to read this too so when season 2 starts i could probably talk to those people about it

7.Daan/ the doctor (fear and hunger termina)

this was a tough descision between Daan and Marina because while i love them both equally Daan has the better narrative in my head with his doomed by the narrative swag

8.Iwha (hero killer

she's cool when she murders people

9. Kikuri Hiroi (bocchi the rock)

girl who is doomed by the narrative

but the narrative is a slice of life so overall its not that bad

Funny/maybe heartwarming prompt: Blake not only wore the bow to hide the fact she's a faunus, she's also insecure about her sphynx cat-ears. Either Yang or the whole teams assures her

(probably not what you thought for it, but enjoy)

Blake gently felt her ears as she looked at herself in the mirror, staring at how big her ears were and how out of place they felt. Sure, hiding them was originally to keep others from seeing her as a faunus to start with, but at the same time, she always felt ashamed of her ears. They didnt seem to fit her, unproportional to her head unlike her mother’s which seemed to be much smaller, and no matter how much she was told she’d grow into them, they always seemed off. More like an eye sore than anything she should be proud of.

Her fingers ran across the ribbon she used as a bow, her eyes still glued to the reflection of her ears. A daily ritual that she could practically do in her sleep. She raised the ribbon to her ears and slowly started to tie a bow to hide them, wincing slightly as she felt the pressure of the ribbon on her ears.

“You know you dont need to hide them anymore, right?”

Blake winced and paused as she tightened the ribbon too tightly around one ear and started to undo the bow she had started. “Yang, I know you mean well, but… its not that simple.”

“Why not?” Yang asked as she made her way to Blake. “I still think they’re cute and you’ve spent the last couple years not hiding them, so why go back to that? Are you really that worried about what others think?”

“Its… its not that simple…” Blake sighed and put the ribbon down on the countertop, moving a hand to her ears and gently feeling them over. “They dont look right on me. They’ve always been out of place, too big for me, too… naked. And I know that if I dont hide them, people are always staring at them and judging me for them.”

“Do you think Ruby does?”

“Well… no…”

“I’m not going to try to keep you from hiding them if that’s what you really want to do, but today is your wedding day. The only people you have to worry about are your friends and family. Everyone here will support you no matter what, so you dont have to worry about what they think.”

Blake nodded, nervously clutching the white ribbon in her hand as she looked over her dress. Of course she knew Ruby didnt care, but after so many years of being told her ears looked off, after so many years of being teased about them… “I… I know she likes me no matter what, but I… I dont know. Maybe I’m just used to hiding them.”

“If that’s what you want to do, then you know she’ll support it.” Yang sighed and put an arm around Blake. “But I do want you to know that everyone out there loves you. Ruby doesnt care what your ears look like or that you're a faunus, she’s grown to love you and you alone. And as your future sister-in-law in about… thirty minutes, I want you to be able to be comfortable either as yourself.”

Blake nodded and leaned a bit into Yang as she finally was able to pull her eyes away from the reflection of her ears. A small smile crossed her lips as she moved the ribbon to her hair and started to tie it into a bow around ponytail. “I definitely made the right choice with you as my bridesmaid.”

Yang smiled a bit. “Now that we have that out of the way, all you have to do is walk down the aisle without tripping.”

“I’m sure I can handle that. Though, you should get out there and get ready, right? Make sure everything is all set and finished.”

“Penny’s handling most of that, I just wanted to make sure you werent a nervous wreck.”

“I’ll be fine now.” Blake paused. “Though, shouldnt you check on Ruby too?”

“Is that your way of asking me to give you a little space?”

“Now you’re catching on.”

Yang chuckled a bit and started to walk off. “I’ll make sure your groom isnt too nervous. But… twenty minutes.”

“I know.” Blake took a few deep breaths as she listened to the organist start to play, her ears twitching with each note that sounded off. Her heart pounded as she watched the clock tick down the seconds to her big moment. The wedding she and Ruby had been planning for over the last couple years. The big day that would change everything for her.

With a few more deep breaths, she hid her nerves and started to make her way to the door, closing her eyes for a brief moment as she pushed it open. The sound of the organ grew closer as she walked down the hallway to the chapel of the church, her heart pounding with each step. She took a pause at the door of the chapel, her eyes catching a glimpse of her reflection in the door handles. Once again, Blake wasnt sure if she could go on with her ears out like this. It wasnt too late to tie the bow around them and hide them, though, it might make her late for her own wedding.

“You look beautiful dear,” Ghira said as he took his daughter’s arm. “And I’m sure Ruby will think so too.”

Blake sighed and looked away from her father. “That obvious I’m nervous?”

“Your mother was the same way on our wedding day too. Though, ours was a bit… less traditional.”

Blake nodded and took a step forward, opening the door to the chapel. A smile crossed her lips as she moved the bouquet of flowers to her chest and started to walk down the aisle, heart racing as she watched Ruby. Her fears started to wash away and the music seemed to disappear as she felt a warmth start to flow from her heart. And for the first time, she felt true bliss as her worries disappeared. Today was her day with Ruby, her groom and partner, and the start of the rest of her life.

okay so if i may. be honest. iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii am very torn abt still making rwby stuff for like idk 3 or 4 different reasons. Maybe More. and its something ive been picking at for a hot minute and i still dont have an answer nor do i expect to get one any time soon BUT. whatever. what is a blog but a place to shit my thoughts onto.

i've been feeling bad lately abt tagging my art and fic as rwby because lets all be real here. me and canon have been divorced for a few years at this point. and as fun as it is to run around with my interpretations of these characters as i have been doing since like 2018 i do feel like im at a point where its like. Why Am I Even Tagging It. its basically not even. rwby any more. lol.

"so why not file off the serial numbers yanno? make em yr ocs and do shit with em that way" Well The Thing Is It's Not That Shrimple, You See. cause i've built this interps around the canon of rwby right. like for the way i write blake and velvet and so on so forth the faunus are like a THING. that i cant REMOVE. FUNDAMENTALLY. like if i take them from there into a new ecosystem (my brain) they're gonna die. and you might be like ah well you can make them into animal people with a different cause!!!!!!!! it's not copyrighted!!!!!!!! you are you Right but also i'll b honest team. that tightens up the audience like a butthole. most people would see a bitch with funny ears and literally feel too divorced from reality to care abt em. which is. a problem.

anyway. i also didnt watch v9 of rwby and dont intend to tbh. ive really stopped caring for a long time and now that v10 is probably never gonna get greenlit because of. The Problems. im like. hm. this feels like im gonna start drifting hard and find something else to occupy my brainhole more than rwby but im also SO ATTACHED to my beans............ like the reason im even still writing shit for rwby is because i love the characters and the way i write the characters and a few select others (kiss kiss to my fwends) and whilst i wont stop. loving them. it's hard to let them go. because even if i make an oc tomorrow who is basically my velvet in every way Well. It Still Ain't Velvet. and she'll lack all the things that made me LIKE velvet. yanno. so.

anyway this isnt meant to be a conclusive series of thoughts. its more like. hhhhh. i have a lot of personal projects on the go that're sort of expanding in my brain (follow @mundanearcane if you wanna see my slowly updating devlog on my terrible idea for the ttrpg that nobody has stopped me making yet) and obviously fallout is always my baby over on @nishaapologist and im never gonna stop loving fallout on account of. sarah lyons. existing. BUT. basically if i seem less like. enthused abt rwby. its cause. of the above. yah.

I had to go look at a list on baby giants bc in my head Luis Matos has been on the team for years but no. he's a baby. I do love Luis Matos tho, I think he's been great for the team! Incredibly cringe of Farhan to send him down tbh! I don't ever find myself asking him "kid what r u doing" more than any other Giant, baby or old man, which I think speaks to his success on the team!

OBVIOUSLY been enjoying Patrick Bailey surprise savior of the franchise girl where did you come from and where have you been!!!! But he's here now and he is perfect. Actually deeply funny to watch him settle into the role and to suddenly feel hope again. SFG fans hold their catchers to a frankly unachievable standard and imho we set Joey Bart up to fail a little bit. (I mean he definitely sucks. But it didn't help that an entire fanbase was asking him to be Buster Posey his entire rookie year.) I think at least part of the reason Patrick Bailey hasn't struggled quite as much as Bart is bc no one really expected him to do shit and I think that's allowed him to settle in really well. I think we'll be able to start measuring his impact in a big way in a couple of years, esp if someone fires Kapler!! Also it's sooooo funny to me how he's such a goober in all his official team headshots on the scoreboard and then the cameras cut to him and he's like 😐

Also love Casey Schmitt for fanfiction purposes. I wish the rookies had vibes like Baby A's do?? Or maybe I just don't pay close enough attention, idk the thing abt me and baseball narratives is I'm only keyed into what happens on my dashboard so if there's a developing romance being documented on Twitter I simply have no idea. Followers are encourage to give me their baby Giants theses!!!

Actually it kills me bc I was reading a Kawakami article where he was like Giants have a lot of rookies but they don't really flock together bc coaching staff has done one thing right in their miserable lives and made the rookies sit with Joc and Yaz in the clubhouse. And forced them to integrate with the team instead of coalescing into one rookie clique?? Which is great for team morale but bad for my fanfiction bc I am not activated by Joc Pederson like, at all.

But Blake Sabol did give the greatest quote about this year in that article:

currently thinking of an au where adam really is on the argus limited and isnt able to escape to chase after blake and yang (bc that plot is stupid) and also weiss decides to go with ren and jaune and nora goes with the rest (kickstarting her arc of discovering who she is alone early and also ren is able to also start that and that leads up to his idolization of militant huntsmanning and ironwood) and yadda yadda yadda it all boils down to adam and weiss actually meeting each other and having a sick fight and the two of them + jaune get separated from the train and are forced to cohabitate

because weiss and adam never meeting is a damn shame but without the jaune buffer and the risk of freezing to death in the mistralian wilderness, adam would murder weiss and if i want the two of them to form a begrudging alliance in the face of a world ending threat (and also this is a weiss who is immediately radicalized against her lineage because of course she has to dramatically cut away his blindfold in their fight and she wants to destroy the schnee legacy entirely, none of this "granddaughter of a hero" bullshit) they need to have SOMEONE to buffer and jaune is the best option i got tbh (also their three personalities clashing are so funny to me)

but also yeah ren having to step up and take care of the entire train cars of the argus limited bc hes got limited aura so he and dudley (or whichever one survived) have to step up and be leaders and that really gets ren inspired with how good it feels to issue orders and have people listen to him, it really inspires him to look up to atlesian militant huntsman styles and ironwood, kickstarting that arc

i just feel like fandom spaces open up this really uncomfortable place for people to talk about things like csa/sa or mental illness as if its a funny casual thing or something that isnt thematically important? i think because everyone hcs their favs with mental illnesses they have no idea how to act when a series is ACTUALLY about csa/sa and mental illness and handles it as poorly as their fandom writings. because they see outlast and they just see barbie dolls to project onto and i mean. i guess you can do that. but also outlast 2 has a very direct story and message its conveying. you cant just warp it in your head to mean what you want it to mean: it HAS a meaning, this game was not made by you it was made by an indie team, they had a clear vision of what they were doing. and red barrels still does mental health and topics of sa/csa REALLY WELL in comparison to other things but that doesnt change the fact that literally all of the antagonists are suvivors and mentally ill. going "well actually theres a big evil corperation behind it!!!!! and these people arent the REAL antagonists!!!!" stops meaning fucking anything when MULTIUPLE OF THESE ANTAGONISTS HAVE BECOME SEXUAL ASSAULTERS THEMSELF. outlast is fascinated with the idea of the prey becoming the predator, and that is what is happening with blakes story, its what eddies story was, its what val and marta and basically all of heavens gate story was, its what coyle and gooseberrys story is. its what the game is LITERALLY about. and you can tell who cared about the games themes and who didnt because this has been the BIGGEST THEME IN OUTLAST SINCE THE FIRST GAME WITH MILES BEING TAKEN OVER AS THE HOST FOR THE THING HE WAS LITERALLY FIGHTING AGAINST, outlast is entirely about victims becoming perpetrators.

I like this more!! *tries to sing along while not knowing the song* ..cue…BEGIN…pulse..YEAH i fuck with this. And of course the intro ends on Brian walking away. He is the moment!’ ‘Ohhhh Drag Queen moment! I fuck with this. Hi BRIAN! Look at them just hanging out in THEIR loft, damn he is broke as fuck, huh? *said in an affectionate aww type of voice* THEY ARE PARTNERS! He really hates accepting any type of help, huh? one of the most annoying things I see is when people try to pull the but there arent many same sex ships ( that are canon) out there to defend korrasami and try to shame people into being okay with it when no it doesnt matter that there arent many same sex ships or examples of lgbt rep representation isnt more important then good writing they arent exempt from being criticized

you dont need to support every same sex ship or “example of lgbt rep with a mc to support the community or support the idea of there being a mc same sex ship the important thing is whether the writing is good if it has had proper buildup etc

( also its funny how many times they get mad if the lgbt character isnt the character they wanted to be lgbt like ilia and act like its wrong that she started on the bad guys side even though she quickly changed sides

( its funny since I have seen people support the idea of azula being bi given how she was )

or them getting mad if instead of the popular same sex ship that they wanted one of the girls ends up with a girl outside of the pairing( I dont recall the example they used ( it was in the tags naming ship names and I dont recognize all of the ship names)

but imagine someone getting mad if freezerburn happened instead of blacksun

this way we both get what we wanted they get lgbt rep involving two members of team rwby and blacksun got the payoff to all the buildup that it received ( while bb got nothing which is why I say its forced direction change to suddenly start heavily pushing it in v7 ( v6 finale at best)

( and to be blunt the fact is the idea that all members of team rwby

had to be in relationship with each other their partner because team jnpr got teased with theirs ( and if neo joins and gets with jaune it will still be the case) is ridiculous by that logic it would be fair for one of team rwby to die ) heck it would be fine if none of team rwby were in relationships with eachother or were paired with a guy ( it wouldnt be forced if it was teased by the show with the proper buildup) like blacksun

( I always find it funny that there are people who will genuinely call a straight ship being teased forced just because it was straight and they wanted a same sex ship to be teased instead (that isnt what being forced means it means writing wise . the fact they wanted bb to be teased is irrelevant they didnt get anything to hint at bb beforehand ) then will claim its homophobic to call a same sex ship forced because after years of nothing hinting at it they were pushed and became canon as treated as something that is practically canon like in v7 or v6 finale ( while blacksun received actual teasing mutual attraction and development) there is no doubt if blake was a guy they would claim queerbaiting. it doesnt matter that there are plenty of het ships that are canon people dont ship blacksun over bb because of the genders involved and when I see people claim that it comes off as projection

I think my initial disdain for the way Sun and Neptune are written came from how sick and tired I am of straight ships being forced on the audience when lots of us are in the lgbta community. Part of it was because my gay ships were sinking I’ll admit but honestly I’m just sick of forced straight ships especially in one of the only shows with enough well written female characters to /actually/ have believable gay ships. I don’t think I hate Sun and Neptune but I do hate how forced the ships are.

I think this is all the explanation needed(and all you need to dismiss people trying to take moral superiority over liking Bumblebee). Something the toxic side of the fandom loves to do is project and project hard. They cannot understand why someone would not think like them or like the things they do unless there’s something wrong with them or they contextualize it through what they themselves would do.And that’s one of them accidentally explaining how that relates to Bumblebee: wasps like it because it’s a gay ship. They thought Black Sun was forced because it was not a gay ship. Therefore, since everyone must either think like them or be defective, clearly you think Bumblebee is forced because it’s not a straight ship. You don’t like it because it’s gay.“

basically they are just calling blacksun forced because it was a straight ship if sun was a girl they wouldnt make that claim so I cant take anytime I hear someone try to pull the you would ship bb if it was a m/f pairing or wouldnt be calling it forced if it was a m/f pairing for if sun was a woman and yang a man they wouldnt be shipping bb and would call bb forced

if whether you ship a ship or not is determined by genders involved like say if two ships were paired against the other and what causes you to ship one over the other the pairing is genders involved it is a shallow reason representation isnt more important then good writing

People need to stop over analyzing every single little detail about Bumblebee. Holding hands and hugging doesn’t mean these two are an item. They barely have any chemistry; in fact, almost every interaction between them suggests how terrible they’d be for each other:

In volume 2 Yang showed concern over Blake’s well being and winked at her while inviting her for a dance (we barelysee that dance btw) which is good, don’t get me wrong, but then everything starts going south after that. Blake was the only one on team RWBY who didn’t believe that Yang wasn’t going crazy, which doesn’t bode well for their relationship at all. Then Yang attacked Adam to save Blake, and Blake ran away after that without so much as a word, and Yang was rightfully upset and continued to be until volume 6. In that volume they do interact and Brunswick farms, and Yangs anger towards Blake briefly resurfaced. They then stabbed Adam and consulted each other after that. Then in volume 7 they complement each other’s looks (dating based off looks is never a good thing), then Blake’s introverted personality gets completely replaced into someone who likes to go clubbing (seriously, does Blake strike anyone as someone who likes to go clubbing?) and we don’t see that either. Then they talk in a van, and not even about each other, you know, something that would result in some good, healthy chemistry? And that’s it!

Yang and Blake barely have any chemistry together, and yet for some reason, almost everyone in the fandom thinks they’re compatible. They aren’t. They’re the farthest thing from compatible. Blake has more chemistry with Sun, and that is no speculation, the two of them spent two entire volume together for their relationship to flush out.

Look, I am not against Bumblebee, but this kind of nonsense needs to stop. We as a society need good, properly developed romance between LGBT characters (especially gay characters, ever notice RWBY’s lack of them?), but since people don’t know what that is, they settle for below subpar stuff. I believe Unicorn of war said it best: “we’ve been feasting on scraps when we deserve a banquet”

( something said around v7 )

All of the BumblBY moments, in my opinion you have to want them to be romantic and interpret them that way. There’s nothing inherently about them which suggests anything other than a close bond, unless you really want it to. The biggest BumlBY moment, when they hug after killing Adam isn’t romantic by nature. It’s simply two people comforting each other after killing a man who has caused the both of them trauma, and who at one point meant a lot to one of them.BlackSun on the other has many moments which you simply can’t deny are romantic. Blake blushes when Sun winks at her, Blake gets flustered when Kali says that she likes Sun, and the two of them go through an arc of opening up to one another and learning to trust each other, which is inherently romantic in nature.You can ship anything you want, but I’m getting a little tired of some BumblBY shippers claiming that ‘ the ship has been developing from day one’, when the truth is, no it hasn’t. If it is developing, it’s much more recent development, compared to BlackSun which now has several volumes to support it.

bb only reall began to be teased in story in v7 they might have intended for the v6 finale to be a romantic moment but it really wasnt

Justice League x RW/BY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen (Part Two)

dear god it opens with a quirky exposition dump/summary of the first part. ueghhh. its a little shorter at least. man i hate the sunken cost fallacy.

"classic superhero stuff right?" i think its better to just do the trope than it is to acknowledge the trope and then do it anyways without any twist or subversion. like, just going "its pretty funny how [x] always happens" and then doing [x] isnt like. anything. tropes are fine and you dont need to make any self aware jokes to try and get permission to do a trope. 2 full minutes of ruby summary. sigh.

they cant go a single scene without teenager level jokes, so since they dont have any teens theyre having black canary deliver those sweet sweet lines i guess. oh killer croc looks like shit huh. they really cant do anything but anime teens huh.

rw/by can do decent fight scenes, that was always where most of the appeal came from.

is batman dead. cmon itd be funny. let rw/by movie kill off batman itd be funny. then smth smth rw/by girls fight over nothing. this time the ptsd flashbacks are animated!

man blake just looks like a huntress knockoff. and theyre really laying the flash angst on thick. flash villains are fun dont be mean guys. oh god weve hit the bruce/weiss junk. hopefully it stays footnote-y like the stuff in the first part.

fight scenes are cool if you like fight scenes. im not that big on them so. kinda bored. oh weiss ur the only bitch i missed from ur series. i dont think we really saw this group finish their fight but theyre done and joining a different one. its just fight scene after fight scene. on and theres the other group whose fight we dont get to see the end of. exposition of all of rw/by's big bads that could be involved. oh we're back to still image flashbacks.

the action scenes are. normal. the story is boring. team rw/by just gets more annoying the more i watch this. pep talk time for reasons. oh they even call it an awkward pep talk! i guess barry really is the main character of part 2. and he has trauma :). man he sounds like me talking about my dad.

id think the JL would have uh. more advanced training sims. than cardboard cutouts. more pep talk stuff. onto bruce n weiss again. daddy issues bonding time. heart attack? cy casually having mari electrocute him. killg%re reaches out to JL for something. barry continues to have ptsd.

movie i would like to sleep thru. 16 minutes left. then i am freed.

man this sure would be impactful if i cared about ruby. now back to fight scene. barry panic attack. fight scene. they went back to team rw/by's normal outfits and abilities for reasons. every once in a while i remember how rw/by didnt really cast voice actors and just used the employees and personalities that they had at rooster teeth.

the final fight strategy is all over the place. no explanation for where the dust is coming from. arent they still supposed to be on earth? oh cool they do the thing where they turn the villains against each other by having one monologue about how they used the other. problem solved?

it doesnt really matter if it was planned from the start or not

it doesnt change the fact that it wasnt until the v6 finale with adams line that rthey actually hinted at the ship. after giving blacksun so much teasing mutual attraction, development and romantic tropes during which the b/ake and y/ng ship didnt get anything that actually teased it as romantic

at that point even if they did plan for it to be canon at the start the best writing move would be to change the plan

serious if it was planned at the start why give blacksun so much teasing mutual attraction and development why have them fullfill so many romantic tropes from start to finish etc

while blake and yang didnt really get anything till the v6 finale with adams line

everything in v1-v3 was platonic you have to wear shipping goggles to see anything more

burning the candle scene was just yang helping blake ( yang being the one to help blake instead of sun isnt evidence for b/ake and yang ship

yang is blakes friend and partner on the team it makes sense that they would interact people complained about blake and ruby not interacting that much for a reason. its funny that they will make this argument when

sun was there for blake alot more then yang in rwby v1-5 its irrelevant that technically yang in v1-3 spent more time with blake offscreen when we get a lot of onscreen moments with blake and sun that are romantic

while also serving as a way to see her backstory.

there wasnt anything romantic coded or flirty about it

yang winking at blake doesnt make it romantic

also there wasnt any special reaction to yang winking at blake by either blake or music reacting to it

and friends can dance with each other

n dance afterwards blake chose to head to sun at burning the candle

and accept the invitation that sun gave out she didnt need to do that

at the dance blake and yang dance gave them a bit of a distance between blake and yang dance

then they broke off so blacksun dance can begin neither of them having issues with it

also the blacksun dance was in the same panel as arkos and renora dance, I have to bring it up because I often see people try t ogo well blake and yang are partners pyrrha got with her partner etc

blake comparing yang to adam wasnt really evidence for the ship

the situation was that it looked like yang assaulted mercury which triggered her due to adam. adam used to be different but changed which is why she brought up adamn and it served as a means to allow us to learn more about adam.

adam being her ex is incidental

after yang lost her arm blake just up and left her with no warning not even a note

of course yang who has abandonment issues would be triggered/effected by that she didnt sound like a spurned lover

weiss had no choice in leaving, and ruby gave yang a notice.

(the well argument that it has parallels to what happened to tai and raven is a bad argument since besides the fact that tai and raven never got back together and were in a relationship at the time. unlike blake and yang.

you shouldnt rely on parallels for a ship because you could end up seeing evidence where there is none. You notice some similarities between what happened but ignore the differences or context of those scenes

like imagine two character hugging and that hug getting special portrayal and a music swell etc

then turn two characters hugging without the special context and claim you have to view it the same way

blake held weiss’s hand in the jacques confrontation like she held yangs hand for example. ( if it werent for adams line in v6 finale I would say there was nothing inherently romantic in blake and yangs moments together

Basically lots of people could make the argument that there are parallels without their ship coming true.

I have seen multiple times where people thought a ship would happen where there argument relies on parallels they try to make.

blacksun had gotten years of teasing mutual attraction and development from v1-5 they fullfilled countless romantic trpes while the other ship didnt get anything

at that point even if its true they planned it at the start they should have changed the plan. They should have looked back and seen how they didnt really give anything to the other blake ship and how much they gave to blacksun that they changed the original plan because if you have a plan at the start as you write the story you might end up having to revise the original plan/endgame due to what you ended up writing in the meantime

. Though RT is far from the only writers to fall into this problem: swerving right instead of left, only to try and claim that the characters still arrived at the destination to the left. I haven’t watched it for myself, but we’ve all heard about the disastrous How I Met Your Mother finale. From what I understand, the writers had an ending in mind, stuck to it… but in doing so ignored all the growth that occurred across the series, events and ideas they could have never foreseen when they first came up with that ending. It was an ending that no longer fit the story. If your theory holds true, anon, then RT is running into the same problem. They’ve got ideas for stuff far in the future - Yang will save Ruby from an attack in Volume 8 - but never bother to revise that material based on what they’ve written in between then and now.

I dont really care about the genders involved ( and there is no doubt the people who demand we accept or be okay with b/b would have a change of tune if sun or yangs genders were swapped.

or heck imagine if blacksun did become canon ( lets say the v6 ffinale moment remained but the v7 onwards teasing didnt happen and blacksun had become canon)

they would get pissed and no the fact b/b was a same sex ship is irrelevant lgbt rep is not a shield from criticism or platform to why a ship should become canon just because its rep

saying this isnt in anyway homophobic

its a story people are allowed to care more about if there was proper good writiing rather then a canon mc same sex ship.

so even if bb was planned from the start and arryn liked it they should have seen the stuff they gave blacksun and went with it

"Killing the baby" is a notion that refers to the fact that an author should be able to scrap and discard notions that they really likes or plot-points that they believe are cool in favor to having a cohesive and balanced narrative. Or, in other words: never fall in love with an idea so much that your story has to adapt around that idea instead of the idea around the story.

like "its all the misogyny when it comes down to it. Same reason a lot of the fans will see f/f relationships as “forced” because there was a boy in the picture for a bit" ( a reference to rwby fandom obviously talking about bb and sun

first of all 5 volumes of buildup isnt a bit

it doesnt matter that in v1-3 yang likely spent months with blake since its all offscreen blacksun had gotten the on screen focus and actual romantic hints which anyone could see

imagine if the genders were flipped and a female character who happens to be a side character got years of buildup with a female main character ( and the focus was on their relationship

but after years of buildup when she gets put on a bus with a promise of coming back the female main character is then paired with a male main character who was her team partner who she justgot reunited with. and pushed heavily to him.

would they accept the argument that the guy and girl spent lots of time together offscreen as part of the team before the girl got separated from him.

no they would point out all the onscreen buildup for the f/f ship while the m/f ship didnt get anything romantic.

if you would react that way to the hypothetical gender flip above you should apply that belief to when it means the ship that becomes canon is a same sex ship.

it doesnt matter if its lgbt representation that doesnt make it exempt from criticism or mean it deserves to automatically become canon just due to popularity

if its badly written it shouldnt happen

it doesnt matter that it would mean that there is no same sex ship in team rwby.

if the same sex ship becomes canon those same people will claim its exempt from being criticized or saying its forced just because there are more shows where het ships become canon but there arent that many examples of shows with same sex ships.

sorry but that is irrelevant and its funny how many times they will try to claim that if you criticize bb or attack bb ship and say its forced its just due to the genders involved as if no one who is part of the lgbt community would ship the het ship over the same sex ship.

they will go there are tons of shows which have het ships as if the reason why people shipped blacksun over bb must be due to the genders involved. I recall hearing about freezerburn shippers attacked by bb shippers if its just about rep then they should be fine with freezerburn instead of bb.

The attack is frankly insulting and projection since they shipped their ships due to genders involved bb being a same sex ship and repeatedly trying to cite bb being a f/f ship in arguments and trying to attack the character of atheir opponents or try to pull bs guilt trips.

I have seen bb shippers piggyback off of renora multiple times for example

1. with the v6 where blake made her protecting eachother scene ( blake held yangs hand because it was shaking it was too comfort her), and arguing that since that renora getting a similar scene where nora went we protect eachother and then ren and nora held each others hands means that bb has to get together or its romantic moment for bb.

That moment for renora wasn't in anyway romantic either even in context renora being a ship that was flagrant from the start doesnt mean that if one ship gets a moment similar to their scene its automatically romantic.

2. or the plane scene argument where they ignore the differences in how the characters acted and made the argument that there being similar shots in some places that means that if you saw renora scene as romantic you have to see the blake and yang moment on the plane as romantic. That isnt the case renora was a private scene and did the lay head on shoulders thing with the song about noras love playing it being completely focused on them , while it was more of a team rwby scene where yang comforted blake and so did ruby.

and nora and yang having similarities doesnt mean renora happening means b/b has to happen

You’re right, they are great foils. Both consist of an inexperienced leader, a stotic agile fighter, a brute force user and a famous person.

However, Ruby is in experienced due to her age, she got into beacon through very suspect but legal means , is a special kind of warrior and constantly goes through the story internalizing her pain for the most part and indirectly inspires people where as Jaune is inexperienced because he hasn’t trained to be a huntsman, got into beacon by mundane but illegal means, is a normal character, goes through the show vocalizing his pain and directly tries to inspire people.

While Blake is not actually stotic, her problems are self inflicted due to her inability to control her emotions but allows her to be more flexible, comes from a whole and wealthy family, fights for a very broad cause and looks the stealthy part, Ren is an actual stotic, avoids problems because of his silence but is incapable of being flexible with them, comes from a dead family, fights for very personal reasons and should stick out like a sore thumb.

While Yang’s brute force is treated as animalistic and as a weakness, she has a lot of personal baggage that drags her down, is very involved with her family, knows the stotic of her team for only a year and has a somewhat happy past with a tragic present, Nora’s brute force is treated as a true strength, does not let her personal baggage hold her down, does not mention a family and probably does not have one, knew the stoic of her team for about a decade and has a tragic past with a somewhat happy present.

Unlike Weiss who prides in her fame and wants to preserve it, is outwardly selfish and self centered but grows more selfless as time goes on, treats peole vastly different based on who they are, a terrible family and a platonic relationship with her leader, Pyrrha hates her fame and it isolates her from everyone, is outwardly very selfless and humble but comes to desire things for herself latter on, treats everyone equally, has a good family and has romantic feelings for her leader.

AND VOMIT BOY, JAUNE!!!!! TALL LANKY SILLY BOY. HE IS ALSO EVERYTHING (there's a pattern here, just assume that everyone in the main cast is everything to me because they are)

AND YEAH, WEISS IS,,, A LOT AT FIRST. SHE'S SUCH A BRAT, BUT IT DOES MAE ME CHUCKLE A LOT. ITS BEEN YEARS, BUT I STILL CONTINUE TO QUOTE HER V1 LINES ("it's 8:55 you dunce!!!!!!). SHE REALLY IS THE ICE QUEEN, AND WE LOVE HER FOR IT. she does get development later on though!

AND YEAH, LIKE I SAID EARLIER, THE FIRST THREE VOLUMES ARE MOSTLY JUST SILLY GOOFY TIMES AND I MISS IT SO MUCH. I'VE RECENTLY BEEN REWATCHING THE EARLY VOLUMES AND THEY LITERALLY HAVE ME CACKLING OUT LOUD, ITS SO FUNNY. i also forgot how quick the episodes are in v1, ITS CRAZY. i can't imagine being in the fandom during this and having to wait a week for a 5 minute episode HAHAHA
