i feel like part of the reason people use "trans women were socialized as men" as a way of claiming privilege for them is because we still haven't really moved past the 2013 brand of feminist thought that acted like men couldn't be harmed by the patriarchy as well. like, we're incapable of holding the idea of men as a privileged class beside the fact that the patriarchy also tangibly hurts them. and therefore trans women (as the "go-between") are rhetorically given the worst of both worlds, both assumed to hold privilege since birth and receiving some of the most virulent misogyny because of that assumption
