bio.◦
Nicole, being the baby of the family, was an angel from the time she was born until around 16. In her infancy she was, as her family praised, one of the most peaceful children they’d ever encountered. Her mother adored her, despite the fact that Nicole was a through-and-through daddy’s girl. Her parents were the head chair members for the CBS broadcasting network. As a result, she grew up loving all things pretty and glittery - and even becoming spoiled in her youth. She was an avid wearer of makeup and spent much of her time playing dress-up with her sister.
Her parents wanted their children involved in extracurriculars from a young age, forcing Nicole into singing lessons and dance classes which filled much of her free time. To further monopolize on much of Nicole’s childhood, she was ushered into numerous beauty pageants alongside her sister, feeling entirely inadequate whenever the crown wasn’t bestowed upon her (however rare those times were). Through her own interest, she discovered a passion for writing music and its accompanying lyrics. A habit she carried with her throughout her entire life. Nicole had always whirred with creative energy, and constantly cracked jokes.
Nicole’s ambitions and personality unexpectedly shifted when she entered High School. This was where she truly found a way in which to grow into herself. Seemingly overnight (to those around her) she transitioned from a dainty wallflower into a turbulent, exciting, free-spirited (and self proclaimed) wild child. Much to the dismay of her loving family (her mother complaining that she was the source of a near constant “nikki-ache”, or migraine in layman's terms). On her 15th birthday, as if a gift from the universe, she was offered a modeling contract from a renowned modeling agency, Zarzar. It was through her pursuit of modeling that she got a taste, and addiction to the limelight. A year later, on her 16th birthday, she won the title of Miss Teen California. Between modeling and her consistent extracurriculars she continued to foster a stronger tendency to be rebellious and “wild”. She found herself on a never-ending merry-go-round of parties, drinking and sneaking out. With this newly forged nightlife she began dabbling in something more sinister, deciding that the drink simply wasn’t enough, she began finding drugs, another viable rebellion.  ( i mean what good is having family money if you don’t spend daddy’s hard-earned cash on drugs, right? ) Despite being the center of attention, which is what she thought was all she’d possibly need, sweet Nicole also noticed she never truly seemed happy.
Often she struggled with depression as a result of pressure placed on her to be the perfect picture daughter her parents desperately wanted her to be. Even though she was always her father’s little princess, she struggled to find independence, her own footing, and her place in the world.
At the age of 18, Nicole moved out on her own savings due to an on-going struggle with drugs ( mostly cocaine, but she wasn’t really picky...she liked to joke that she abused any and everything equally ) and seemingly never-ending fights at home which caused a considerable rift between her and the rest of the picture-perfect Hampton family.
That same year, Nicole found a new way to establish herself and maintain her lifestyle. she began stripping at Synn Gentleman’s Club, a high-end strip club in West Hollywood. She’d met many of her current connections while stripping, subsequently cutting off all connection with her family soon after, except for her sister.
Right before her 19th birthday during a shift at Synn, she was assigned to work the VIP section wherein she met a man by the name Brody Roberts, a reputable ( and darkly alluring ) producer and director, who quickly took a liking to Nicole. It didn’t take long for them to hit it off. he’d frequent the club she worked, getting only a dance. Once the two were done, he’d leave her an egregious tip and venture from the club until the following night.
The two engaged in this dangerous courtship for long enough that brody became tiresome of this charade and presented Nicole with a devious ultimatum: in order for her livelihood to continue ( ie. getting bestowed large sums of money nightly ) she’d have to renounce her days on the pole for days on his arm (or face immediate termination and blacklisting from any and all reputable clubs within a feasible radius). An offer she couldn’t refuse. She knew he would be able to support her and offer the life she’d once been accustomed to before falling out with her family.
Soon thereafter, Nicole had found herself living with brody and became his kept woman. her days were filled with a monotony of repetition that Nicole quickly realized she wanted to escape. she’d managed to save enough money to find herself a small place and the day before she signed the lease, she fainted from exhaustion during her morning run and was taken to the hospital. upon receiving bloodwork the cause of her fainting was actually an unknown pregnancy.
Nine months later, they welcomed a son, Asher Brody Roberts.
Asher was a difficult baby ( often sick, colicky ) causing additional strain on a relationship which had already nearly met its end. That's when Nicole made her change. It started small, distancing her own finances from that of her son’s father, she then began to dabble in music and amassed a sizable social media following which allowed her to jump-start her career separate from her estranged boyfriend.
Two years later, with meticulous planning and the help of her best friend Olivia and Olivia’s boyfriend Jaxson King Nicole was able to move all of her and asher’s belongings out of the home during a week long shoot that brody was on.
Nicole did not get a clean nor healthy break from a relationship that had already drained her for the better part of four years. She knew that she had lost part of her formative years (being 18 when she’d met the man with whom she would share a part of her life forever, and stuck until she was 22) to Brody, a manipulative and narcissistic man who she hated to adore. Her heart ached every single time she’d hear his specific text tone, or see his name take over her phone screen. She’d wanted desperately to contact the police, to see what kind of assistance she could get from what she only knew as harassment (ultimately to be talked off the ledge by Olivia).
Nearly a week after Nicole had made her grand (and melodramatic) departure in the night, she found herself in a meeting over coffee with the man whose bed she’d shared for years. She was anxious and cranky and was met with cold smugness from her counterpart. Brody, a smart and wealthy man, was not going to relinquish his prize without a painful fight. As he sipped his coffee, and with all of the curtness he would bestow upon a perfect stranger, Brody announced to her that if she did not willfully come back - he would charge her with the kidnapping of his son. A toddler.
Nicole spiraled in that very second. She knew he meant it, and she knew that with his power and connections (all fueled by money) he could paint her into the narrative that best suited him, and that would force her to lose custody. With reluctance and all of the self-preservation she could muster, Nicole collected her and Asher’s belongings and returned to the home she thought she’d managed to escape.
It didn’t take long for Brody to feel comfortable again, thinking he’d created a chess game that he couldn’t lose. He began taking on more projects, longer commitments of his time, while Nicole was left to plot alone with their son. It was during one of these extended periods of Brody-ness bliss that Nicole's wandering eye and coyote-caught-in-a-trap mentality bested her. She’d met another man.
Theo, the focus of her attention, was the antithesis of Brody: sensitive, kind, wholesome, charismatic and most of all not a blatant narcissist. He was genuinely, unapologetically and irrevocably good. Everything she hadn’t sought out, nor thought she wanted. Yet, everything she needed. Nicole found herself diving headfirst into a hidden relationship. She brought him around her son, whom he was fantastic with, and she knew in that second: she was going to run to him.
Nicole convinced Theo to contact a lawyer on her behalf so as to not leave a trace that Brody could stumble upon. She found the legal course of action that she could take in order to move herself and Asher out of the home Brody owned, and made her second escape. Straight into the arms and home of her secret lover.
Brody discovered, to his grand dismay, that he had no legal recourse for Nicole and that he would inevitably have to allow this sleeping dog to lie. The two worked out a custody arrangement that neither were truly happy with, and she found a new false sense of security in their world.
Having rid herself of the relationship that was hindering her and Theo’s happiness, the two allowed themselves to date. To even make the leap into falling in love. They dated for a little over a year and in that time Nicole’s life had taken a turn. She found the independence she’d longed for, her career took an upturn. For the first time in her life, Nicole was unstoppable.
After dating for a year, Nicole and Theo decided to get married. The couple took their time planning the wedding, Theo understanding Nicole’s struggles, and hesitancy in regards to marriage. He’d been kind, patient, and loving which prompted Nicole to take the leap during a trip to Aspen. They planned a speedy wedding and everything appeared copacetic until mid-ceremony when the officiant asked if there were any objections and no other than an uninvited guest spoke out.
At that moment Nicole was faced with a difficult decision: she could marry the man she had grown to love or forfeit him for the man she knew was bad for her… in every sense, two could be hazardous to one-another.
In a moment of panic, Nicole chose self-preservation. Sparing herself the internal turmoil of being stuck with a choice she didn’t feel right, she fled from the altar and in a flash of white disappeared from the church. In her wake, she left behind two shell-shocked men, and a conglomeration of confused attendees.
During the days that followed Nicole sought refugee on the couches and spare beds of friends who welcomed her and her son while her former fiance packed her things and the memories of the life they were once committed to sharing.
While still reeling from everything that had transpired during the aforementioned weeks, she had managed to gain a sense of resolve and clarity for the first time in her adult life. She was without a romantic partner for the first time in her adult years, and instead, her life was now solely committed to herself and her son. She got a place for the two of them, somewhere she was proud to call home and make their own. She found stronger footing in her musical career, something she’d been unable to fully dedicate herself to before. And she managed to gather the reigns on her own life, without the assistance of anyone else.
Nicole had built herself into a woman she didn’t think she’d ever become. Someone who her son deserved. A bright, powerful individual with a life uniquely her own. Who had finally gotten the self-respect to realize she didn’t require a man to get by. That her own tenacity could carry her to places she’d only dreamed.
Granted, in this whirlwind of growth and development, she didn’t avoid a struggle here and there. Namely in the form of waking up in the bed of a man that she didn’t belong with. A man whose son she raised alone.

Winchesters meet the Phantoms Ch. 24
Danny hissed, pressing his back against the seemingly warm concrete warehouse wall. Straining his hearing, his ears picked up the soft stumble of steps, and hushed whispers. At this moment Danny would rather be babysitting Satan's kid right now.
"Did you see where the freak is?" All he wanted was a bathroom break, how was he supposed to know he was landing near hunters? Another wise left him as his eyes fell to the blood clinging onto blue jeans. Yea he should have just gone straight to the Winchesters, things rarely go well for him. A ring, and bang followed a few feet away from him causing him to jump.
They were going to find him soon, he had to move, but the good question is what the hell it was they shot him with cause it burns like hell.
carry on my wayward son, they'll be peace when-
"Fuck" Danny whispered, wrangling his phone out of his pocket and hitting mute... The damage was done.
"He's over here!" Danny growled, taking a dash towards the exit, hearing gun fire ring behind him. He can do this, he can. First, can't let Sam ring through can he.
"Hey Sam, now's not a good time." Danny rushed, falling through the floor fast, barely missing another bullet. A string of curses followed his disappearance, and he settled a few floors below.
"Were those gunshots? Danny, what the hell?" Sam's worried voice filtered through as Danny picked up hurried footsteps running down the stairs. A sigh of relief left the teen when his eyes landed on the much healed, and less painful leg. "Are you okay? Do you need help? where are you?"
"Sorry, I got spotted by some hunters but I'll handle it." Danny responded, hearing footsteps get closer. "I'll just be a little late, okay?"
"If anything, call us. Okay?' Sam's voice held no room for argument, not that Danny would have argued with him.
'Yea, I'll see you." Danny sighed, and slide his phone away. The Footsteps grew louder, as Danny sided. Quickly he lined up the boxes littered around the floor against the door, mostly for telekinetic practice but also to keep them busy for as long as possible. Releasing a breath, he turned invisible and stepped through the wall. Picking up and flying towards the store he saw. He doesn't care what happened, he needs a bathroom and a snack.
"We'll be back soon." Sam spoke, an apology clear as day on his face with Dean already out at the car. Danny decided to be nice to Dean's moodiness all things considered. He appreciated Sam holding back a minute to check in and make sure Danny would be alright.
"It's fine, you guys go. I'll keep the baby but actually basically an adult, busy." Danny waved off with a small laugh. "I've got this, and if he suddenly starts crawling on the ceiling I'll call you and higher a priest." Danny joked, earning a laugh of Sam.
"Thanks, we owe you." Sam smiled, giving his byes to Danny and then Jack before leaving with a sparing glance backwards.
Danny smiled awkwardly at the kid before him. The kid just sat on the couch, looking just as out of placed as Danny felt. Of course Danny did not like the fact that someone who was basically just born yesterday was taller than him, and already looked his age. It wasn't fair, not like things often are at his height, but it's still saddening.
"So, what'd you like to do?" Danny asked, watching the kid's face contort in confusion. "Like watch TV, or a place to go out an eat, or games?" Danny continued, only watching the confusion grow.
"I like nougat..." He spoke, taking a pause before adding on. "and burgers."
"Okay, what about TV?" Danny questioned, motioning towards the TV settled in the den. He was only met with another confused stare which caused Danny to sigh. For the son of the literal devil this kid was extremely clueless. That's fine though, experience with new ghosts has trained Danny for this. Regardless of how much Danny would much rather be back at school, with Theo. "Cartoons it is." Danny flicked the screen on, watching it steal all of the kid's attention.
The older of the two held back a laugh, maybe it wont be all that bad if all he really has to do is sit here with the kid. Not that it's much fun, if Jack has enough sense, Danny might be able to take him out for ice cream or to an arcade. There's nothing worse than boring babysitters. The Winchesters didn't give him much to go on besides keeping the nephilim alive and out of trouble.
Which really means they shouldn't have chosen Danny because trouble always follows the young college student everywhere. Nonetheless, everyone seems to think he's the best choice for very important jobs. You would assume people would realize that's not the best idea.
"Can people do that?" Jack's voice broke through Danny's thoughts. He turned his attention to the television which happened to have Scooby Doo on. Shaggy had done the cliche Scooby run, stuck in place for a second while in the air. Danny chuckled for a second, regardless of how the kid looked or what powers he has, he really is just a kid.
"Nope, its just cartoon logic. It stuff that only works in shows like this." Danny waved towards the screen for emphasis. "After this episode, I'll show you the Looney Tunes. Now that's a melting pot of Cartoon logic." Danny laughed, turning to the show.
"So, what are we feeling for lunch?" Danny asked, opting to sit on the counter rather than a chair. The kid was seated at one of the counter seats, watching Danny with a confused and intrigued stare. Danny sighed, shaking his head. Sometimes he forgets this kid didn't experience a lot of things. He can't be surprised that the Winchesters didn't bother to try and have the kid experience the world a little. But, hey if he was gonna babysit, it was going to be a good time for the both of them. "Okay, what do you like? Nougat, right?" Danny continued.
"Yea... and burgers." Jack answered, Danny really should just get used to the kid's constant state of confusion. Danny paused, thinking through what they could have for lunch.
"Okay, I've got an idea." Danny declared, grabbing a set of keys of the wall. He started for the door, before looking back and seeing Jack still seated. "You coming?" The college student ask motioning towards the door. Danny raised an eyebrow at the look of surprise the kid gave him.
"I can come?" Jack asked, standing up. "I can't really... go places." He added, looking confused and surprised. Danny inwardly sighed, he gets it he does. Jack was powerful, he had people after him, but Jack was also just a kid. Regardless of age. As much as he trusts the Winchesters' judgement, this was one thing that he can't get behind.
God, Danny sounds older as the day passes.
"Well, I'm not them." Danny shrugged with a grin. "So, you're invited." The grin dropped to a pleased smile and the look of excitement that took on the kid's features.
"Okay, so let me get this straight." Danny all but growled, watching the sad kid. "Dean wants to kill you just because your dad is Lucifer?" Danny can't really say he's surprised, he just figured Dean had grown more as a person than that. Parents' don't dictate who you are or who you will be.
"He doesn't like me." Jack answered, looking down. Danny sighed, taking a seat next to the young nephilim. Before he could speak up, Jack continued. "What if I am evil like he says? I've hurt people." Jack looked up, tears lining his eyes and regret clear as day. Danny swallowed, he's had these conversations with himself one too many times.
"You're not." Danny shook his head, placing a comforting hand on the kid's shoulder."Trust me, I know. Who your parents are, what abilities you have, what prophecies say, or hell what even God says. It doesn't define who you are."
Danny watch the sadness and doubt still swirl in those blues, okay Danny really needed to work on his speeches. It's not like he's been giving them as often as he used too... That was now technically Theo's job.
"Look, I was supposed to be evil. Worse than Satan himself." Danny spoke, watching the interest and surprise weigh into the kid's eyes. Danny nodded at the look of slight disbelief. "I know right? But I was, but I didn't. Which means you don't have to be."
"Sam says that." Jack spoke, looking down.
"But you look up to Dean." Danny concluded, watching Jack nod. "Dean's a little rough around the edges, but trust me. He'll come around."
"I hope he does." Jack responded, he didn't look as lifted as Danny would have liked, but it was better than he looked a few minutes ago.
"How about this, tell me what you can do." Danny asked, trying to less the tension. Jack's confused look made Danny sigh. "You know, like Angels fly, I can turn invisible, and like a ton of other things but thats besides the point." Danny shrugged, he'd rather not go into all the details.
"Like... Cas flies?" Jack asked, Danny smile and nodded. He'll try to help the kid while he's here.
"Hey, are you free?" Theo's voice filtered through the speaker. Danny smiled, glancing over at the half angel sleeping soundly on the couch nearby. Making his way towards the kitchen off to the side, Danny answered.
"Hey babe, yea. Jack just fell asleep." Danny responded, resting back against the kitchen counter. He's mind running through all they've done in a short time.
"How's the kid holding up?" Theo asked, Danny can hear typing in the background. Leave it to Theo to call him while he's busy with schoolwork. Danny couldn't help but smile before answering.
"He's a tough kid, we're getting along pretty well." Danny replied, musing about how well he helped Jack find a few parts of his abilities. He felt a little sad having been reminded of how Jack got into this place. "He's dad's not the greatest and no helping him. His uncles aren't the worse but... The kid deserves better." Danny sighed, running a hand through his hear.
"Hey, at least he has you right now, right?" Theo responded, the typing halting for a moment. "Anyone with you on their side is going to be okay, I would know." Danny smiled, huffing a laugh.
"You're cheesy, you know that right?" Danny asked, smiling at the ground. Sometimes he wished Theo was there, but at least he knew he was safe back on campus.
"But you love meeeee." Theo laughed, typing continuing. Danny barely picked up the sounds of footsteps approaching the entrance of the bunker.
"As much as I love talking to you, looks like I gotta run?" Danny sighed as the steps got closer. He heard Theo shuffle around for a bit before the other student sighed as well.
"I need to see on of my professors, so call me later?" Theo asked, and Danny nodded. "I love you."
"I will." Danny smiled, pushing off the counter to greet who ever was about to come in. "I love you too."
"Dean, I get it." Danny pulled Dean aside after the Winchesters got back. "I get why your worried about Jack being evil-"
"He is!" Dean cut in. "He's done so much da-"
"No, you're going to listen first." Danny cut Dean off, being met with a surprise look. "You can't tell me Jack is evil because his not human, you can't tell me its because of his dad, you can't tell me its because he lost control of his powers and hurt people, and you can not tell me some prophecy bullshit okay?" Danny paused to take a breath, leaving room for Dean to speak up, which he didn't.
"You should know this, considering me. Considering the many friends you've made on the field." Danny sighed. "All I'm saying is, regardless all that, Jack is just a scared kid who looks up to, and just wants to not feel like a monster. Think that over okay, be easier on the kid." Danny finished. He watched Dean inhale before responding.
"I'll try." Dean spoke, glancing over to the room beside them.
"That's all I ask." Danny gave a small smile before shaking his head. "Okay that's over, I'm tired of sounding like Sam."
"Which Sam?" Dean laughed as the two walked back to the others.
"Both."

Ok true crime as in my new addiction is true crime podcasts specifically about serial killers
Back to the session
After getting a bit of a reality check from durnan about the supposed strength and power of the xanathar guild…
Protected our home w glyphs of warding
Last day of our contract
Spell is set to fade soon
Asyna is feeding ot
Ot looks at asyna like he's a cornered animal
"ot here's some meat"
Why is krystal roasting me about my lover
He wants poison
Ot is calling his jailers idiotic
Oh no aerana might be spilling beans
I really shouldn't be allowed to play games
Because I will always turn to the chaotic evil character
Aerana isn't giving anything up
Theo tells us about the plumbers who came over last night
Aerana is going to typ, rest of party is staking out house
Shifts to watch ot, adam takes front, asyna tower lookout (it's foggy tho so perception check at disadvantage, 9; city looks a little eerie in the fog)
Cel puts immovable rod across cellar door
Ot is suspicious whenever cel comes in
"you cannot fool me xanathar"
Cel making theo a new cloak
Ot asks cel when he'll turn him into dust
The xanathar can turn ppl into dust
Flare ?
Is flare the brain boy ?
I don't like the energy we've created around the word "enlightenment"
Cel rolls 18 insight check
Ot doesn't think cel is cel
Cel is gonna just vibe witth him
"WHEN U SLAY ME I WILL THINK NOTHING BUT HATEFUL THOUGHTS"
Sorry didn't mean caps but too lazy to fix
Everyone else
Adam in front hissing at neighbors and cats, 7
Hears pavement scuffle, someone approaches and reddish gtray beard person w non-descript gray cloak approaches; trench
Doesn't remember cellar and plumbers guild coming by night before
Trench says he can help
Help get bar open
Used to drink there a lot
Gets parchment and quill with ink
Rolls insight to see if bar was only thing he wasd interested in, 13, trench seems v interested
Works in surveillance, protection
Gives him cel and theo's name "5 copper please"
Gets 5
Adam picks his nose
Theo patrols entrances

Overlaps path w adam's
Aerana to typ
Afternoon when there
Similar pattern to those there; frequent patrons
"if I'm making up words, it's not really hitler"
8 perception
Place feels open, not as packed as it usually is
Still feel sensation of cold from the well
Wizard w pointy red hat a regular
You see goliath wizard talking to a dwarven woman
Aerana sees an elven man (bard) w "ugliest guy you've seen in your goddamn life" dom says but only after we point out he looks like legolas, tuning a lute
Sense you've seen him before
The wellllllllllllllllll
It is better told by a bard
Some patrons old and strange, others just like to drink
But ritual in the storytelling
Durnan built
Gwyliam
Talking in elvish
Place formerly not too populated
But one of durnan's ancestors came over to build upon it and discovered the well
Network of tunnels underneath
20 for history check
Familiar with some of what he's saying
Parents would throw you into the undermountain if you were bad
Undermountain = stirs weird memory in your head
Being told as a child stories of undermountain
Deep dark fearsome place
Mt waterdeep wizard came here once named hallister the black cloak
Hallister - ppl don't know where he was from / if he was real but legendary
Brought apprentices trained in magical arts
Tunneled on peak of mt waterdeep
Legend of undermountain could not be verified as truth
Durnan's ancestor came to typ
Climbed into well
"I wouldn't bring this up around him" - doesn't talk abt
When ancestor returned was fabulously rich
Split money with best friend
Built typ
Occasionally engages in ritual of going
No one truly knows what lies in undermountain but there's something there bc some return but most do not
"it might just be the sewer" - "but don't tell anyone I said that"
Differing renditions
Some say durnan was the one with magical powers and killed everyone in there, or more nuanced speaking only of tragedy of those who return who come back fearful or returning with smaller parties; others talk more of hallister and argue over his life; every night a different story
Ask if he knows anyone who's come back
Gestures to half-orc in corner playing variation of solitaire; great celebration when he returned, he came back with riches
He is a regular
21 history check
Undermountain
Familiar name
"Deepest dungeon of them all"
When sewers were built many passages abandoned bc other halls + passages found, many teams from cellars and plumbers guild died during construction of the sewers
Prisoners often thrown into "undermountain"
Says even tho he's here most days there's still stuff he doesn't understand about it; new community reforged every night
At some point durnan talking to wizard and having a conversation which is odd ? Eventually wizard looks at aerana (old man) skinny pointy red hat
Wizard squinting at aerana then turns back to conversation
Try talking to half-orc
Interesting plated beard almost like that on dwarves wrt ornamentation; jewelry running through it
Wiry half-orc
Not skinny but muscled
Weird tattoos covering one side of his face looking like they change a little bit
Balanced a little precariously
Ask if he wants to play a two-person card game bc he's playing solitaire
Ask for his favorite game, Skipper (slapjack)
Dexterity check

The College Society Chapter 3 Part 5
The next part ! Hope you’ll like it.
Damian Nicholas Smith-Carrey Sunday February 3
People often did things without a thought for the consequences. It was the very basics of mankind. And this scum-sucking Theo was very human right now. When the general assembly had ended yesterday, Damian Nicholas Simth-Carrey had felt something. A foreboding. He had called Deborah, a person he could trust. Then, he had waited. He had never felt so stressed. It had been so weird. So abnormal. My whole mind betrayed me. He had called Zack twice. Maybe more. Zero answer but it wasn't a surprise since it was the middle of the night were Zack lived. So he had waited in the best way he could. With sex. He had found a boy, and they had fucked until his phone had rung. The Dean's grandson had stopped everything at this very instant, despite having his cock in the man's butt. Deborah had explained the situation. What she had found. Theo had druged Liam, and had tried to abuse him. It wasn't good. At first, Damian Nicholas Smith-Carrey had been angry. More than he had ever been. The boy he was banging would probably never walk normally again. (But at least he had the best sex ever).
At dawn, the blond lad wanted to see Liam. However, he got a call from Zack, eventually. They talked, and Damian Nicholas Smith-Carrey realised two things. First, everything was weird since he had met his now boyfriend. My body is against me. My mind is against me. I don't know what's going on. And in a way ? I like it. He hadn't corrupted Liam at all. He had been corrupted by Liam. And second, he felt as guilty as angry. What happened was partially his fault. Theo had done that only for the bet, for the hunt. Damian Nicholas Smith-Carrey had never felt guilt before. And he hated this feeling. It was bad. Really bad. He needed something to compensate. The blond lad masturbated with Zack voice, but it wasn't enough. I don't like it. I'm not myself anymore. I need to be fixed. And it came to his mind he could have revenge. Revenge would be good. Hell yeah, Theo'll pay for everything he did. Zack wouldn't agree, so Damian Nicholas Smith-Carrey ended their conversation and left. At first, people often thought Theophile Meyers hadn't any weakness at all. But it wasn't true. We all have weakness. Theo had two. His overconfidence and a petite blonde.
"Laura, there you are." smiled the Dean's grandson. "What's up ?"
"Well, we didn't get what I hoped from Summer, but more than I rationally thought." she said. "So I guess it's good news. You want somethin' ?"
"You know what's going between Theo and I, aren't you ?"
"I am. But you are well aware I can't get involved. D.R.'s protecting me, remember ? I'm not an available prey."
"Laura. I know that. I won't ask you do to something you don't like. I know what you went through." he assured. "In truth, I wanted to know if you were okay ? It must be difficult for you. Is he harsh since he made the bet ?"
She lowered her eyes. Hell yes. I know how he works. And D.R. is going to punish him a way or another. But I want some fun too.
"Maybe I can do something about it." he whispered. "Shall we talk just the two of us sometimes ? Friday night ?"
"Okay." she agreed. "Thanks for being concerned."
Yeah, you bet I am.
It was almost noon. Damian Nicholas Smith-Carrey did his best to resist. After all, it was the perfect occasion to get rid of Liam and all those weird feelings. But he couldn't stand it. He showed up at his boyfriend's apartment, ashamed by his own weakness. I'm the best hunter. A predator. And still I feel the need to see him. This isn't good. The freshman welcomed him with a wide and innocent smile.
"Nick left for lunch." he said. "Apparently, he was craving for burgers. I'm not convinced it is helping when you're trying to lose weight but honestly, I'm not sure he really wants to lose the weight."
"Whatever you say."
The blond lad observed the surroundings. It was a typical man's flat. Dirty clothes in a corner, opened beer on the table, videos games and movies all over the floor...
"How are you feelin' since last night ?" he asked. "I got worried."
Damn. He didn't want to say the last part. He hadn't been really worried of course. Was I ?
"Honestly, I don't really remember what happened." confessed Liam. "I think I hallucinated the most part, with the ogre, the fairy, the dark train and the livin' baobab."
"Hum yes, I guess you did."
He's disturbed. Someone help please. I'm not supposed to find this delirium cute !
"So... you were really concerned about me ? It's sweet Dami."
Don't. Say. It's. Sweet. And again, he started to blush. They both did. It was a real disgrace. I hate my red cheeks. And yours. Who the hell I'm trying to fool ? I love this. I don't know anymore. He grabbed his boyfriend's hand, and kissed him softly.
"Of course I was." he declared, letting the words slip. "But the most important is that you're alright now. Whatever happen, I will find out and punish the.."
"Don't." cut off Liam. "It's no use."
You're talking like Zack. Damian Nicholas Smith-Carrey had already started his plan anyway. Break Theo's relationship with Laura and then drag his name trough the mud, it was now a matter of time.
"You want to do something for me ?" continued his boyfriend with a smile.
"Yeah ?"
"Feed me. I'm hungry."
Liam Tuesday February 5
When he woke up this morning, Liam felt something unsual. Is it... happiness ? It was. He stood up and greeted the unicorns. He was indeed entirely happy. Dami loved him. (He didn't say it, but he had been concerned ! It meant something). His father's lawyer would likely help his mother. And he was among the best students of his year group. With a smile, he headed towards the bathroom for a shower. His belly let out a slight gurgle. Liam stroke it gently. Since early january, and more exactly since he started to officially date Dami, he had gained around 1kg (2lbs). He knew it was only the begining, but it didn't bother him at all. He was doing swimming every two days, and even some workout. And I can allow myself some flab anyway. For now, only his stomach was a little soft at the touch, but it wasn't even noticeable. I should ask Dami what he's liking better. I'm okay if he wants me to gain some weight. Anyway, Liam was happy. It wasn't an usual thing. So he called Nate this minute. One bell, two... No answer. It's 12pm, he's normally at lunch. The lad tried again. Nothing. Of course. He couldn't be happy, could he ? The forces of evil had struck again. A bit worried, he asked the unicorn to share their power, and called again. I don't like it. He always answer immediately. Always. Nick entered in his room.
"What are you doing ?" he asked. "We have marcoeconomics in half an hour."
"Nate's in troubles. I think."
Liam the daydreamer disapeared for a moment. Liam the 8yo too. Even Liam the hero. They all let place to Nate's soulmate. (Yeah, sometimes Liam separated himself in several personnalities. Don't ask).
"He's not answering. Not texting. It's not like him to let me in the dark."
"Let me try."
Nothing. Nick frowned.
"Maybe he's busy with something. You know, there's plenty of reason for him to not..."
"I think he's dead."
Liam started to panic. He thought about all his option. He didn't own a car, and neither did Nick. They couldn't drive, but Dami could. As fast as possible, he called his boyfriend. When this one pick up, he almost yelled :
"You need to come ! We must go to Pavson's College ! I think my bestfriend is dying !"
And that was how they ended up, Dami and him, running towards Nate's university, on the other side of the country. Nick had assured he would take note during the lessons for Liam, and find an explanation for his absence. Dami had come with messy hair, only a polo and sweatpants. He was probably doing... things, but at least he had come. Now, the freshman was getting anxious, unable to do a single thing except call.
"There's still three more hours to go." mumbled his boyfriend. "Can you stop wriggle like this ?"
"Sorry. I can't stay quiet."
Dami grunted.
"I don't want you to damage my ferrari." he complained before continuing with a more reassuring tone. "He's fine. You're freakin' out for nothing."
Liam shook his head. He wanted to believe this. But he had this feeling compressing his chest. He was sweating, hot and stifling. I know there's a problem. Deep down, I know it.
"So this... Nate." whispered Dami after a moment. "Does he know about us ?"
"Yes. I'm telling him everything." confessed Liam. "And I can't hide a secret from him. He knows how to read me. Does it bother you ? You wanted to keep our relationship hidden ?"
"It's fine." replied his boyfriend. "I don't want everybody to know yet, but he's your bestfriend, so I guess it's okay. Did you tell to someone else ?"
He's more worried about it than I thought. Liam had a reasoning : Dami had slept with a lot of people in the campus. But maybe it never was as serious as they were. (After all, they didn't have sex, and the blond lad didn't seem eager to do it). (Thinking about it made Liam blush enough to look like a tomato). (It was so hot in here). So, maybe Dami intended to not shout it from the rooftops to avoid jealousy from his lovers. (And maybe he wanted to protect Liam ? This one loved the idea).
"Hey baboon, I asked you something." whinged his boyfriend.
"Uh, sorry. I was thinking about... stuff." justified Liam. "I only told Nate, but I think Nick figured it out. He's smart and he's my roommate so... you know. You said it to someone ?"
Dami frowned.
"To the only person who really matters to me." he replied after a while.
At his tone, the chestnut boy understood it wasn't the good time to talk about it.
It was dark when they arrived at Nate's flat. Liam got out of the car and ran inside. He strongly knocked at the door with fear. Nothing. He shouted his bestfriend's name, but no one answered.
"Maybe he's not here." whispered Dami. "We should check the university."
They did that. But Nate was nowhere to be found. He had completely disapeared. And Liam was starting to lose it. He had difficulty to breath. He had an headache.
"We're running for almost two hours." informed his boyfriend. "It's almost midnight. You need to rest a bit."
"I'm not tired. We continue to search."
"But where ? He's not in the campus nor his flat. You called his parents and they've no clue either."
"I don't know !" yelled Liam. "I don't know !"
Dami took a step back. He looked both afraid and angry. I'm sorry. Please, forget it. The freshman couldn't speak. He tried to inhale, but almost suffocated. Why there was so many problems ? So many troubles with him ? What was wrong ? He felt Dami's hand on his back. His boyfriend forced him to sit, and kissed him lengthily. Enough to make him calm down.
"I'll try something." he assured. "But first we're going to find an hotel, and you'll take some sleep. Inspite of what you're saying, you're just dead tired. Let me handle this from now on. Is that clear ?"
"Yes, okay... Thank you..."
"You fixed the conditions. When you call, I come. You're my priority number one for eveything."
Barbara Tuesday February 5 (at the same moment)
It was the most awkward diner she ever had. She expected Jessy to hit on Colton while this... Nick would be eating or whatever. But this latter had cancelled at the last minute, and her ex boyfriend had come with Leila. His twin sister. For a date. He's so clumsy. Now, they were eating in silent. At least Pasta's Place provided excellent plate. Barbara knew Colton loved it. Each time, he had made a mess of himself. And he wasn't contravening to the rule right now.
"So. Jessica right ?" smiled Leila. "What kind of studies are you doing ?"
"I'm gonna be an hairdresser."
My god, you dummy. Don't say this, it make you look idiot. Barbara took a mouthful of her own plate, and glared at Leila. This one grinned.
"You said you were from the same highshool than Barb ? Where this Muller was ?"
"Raphaël ?" praised Jessy. "Yeah, a true hottie. And a fuckin' leader. He took away two boyfriend from me."
You're making a fool of yourself... Colton finished his second plate. When you saw him like that, you wouldn't say he was a messy eater. He was so thin, so muscled. But in truth, when he liked something, he could devour some impressive amount. Barbara had always felt repulsed by it.
"Those pasta are a gift from above." he whispered with a light belch. "I'll ask Judy for another helping. Someone is interested ?"
They all declined. He stood up, a hand on his bloated stomach, and went to find the waitress. Leila waited a moment, and when he couldn't hear them, she threathened :
"Don't ever approach him again with a random average girl. My brother deserves better."
"Hey, how can you..."
"Shut up Jessy." cut off Barbara. "Listen to me Leila, I'm only looking for his happiness but since you don't want my help, fine. After all you're right, I'm too busy for this crap. But when I'll be the queen of this college, don't dare come back to me."
Latter this evening, when everyone in her apartment was asleep, Barbara left for the stadium. She met there her partner Roberto. He was an idiot to whom she had promised a place in the student union if he helped her. People like him were the easiest to manipulate. She had met him at the beginning of the year. He was her private tutor for economics lessons. They grew up closer, and she could say he was in love. That's why he's ready to do everything I ask for.
"You'll need to take action again." she demanded. "Degrade the science building wasn't enough, people don't care about it. Those nerds of the sciences club are useless."
"What do you want me to do ?"
"Listen carefully. You'll damage the football facilities. All the student'll heard about it. Then, we'll charge our spacegoat. Is he still oblivious ?"
"Yes. How would he know anyway ? I already put some accusing evidence in his flat when I did my last tutoring."
"Nice. Good luck Roberto. See you soon."
When she went back to her flat, she bumped into Brandon, her roommate. The guy was taking a midnight snack apparently. He was tall and lanky, a bit scary. He had a scar on his forehead, which he tried to hide under his black hair. I'm not afraid of him but...
"It's past midnight." he said. "I thought you were sleeping."
"Well, I had a... date. But you were in your room, I guess you didn't hear me go out."
A little lie; but Brandon didn't know her at all, he would believe it. In fact, he just finished his cookie.
"Whatever." he muttered. "Good night."
And he went back in his room. Such an asocial. It was better like this anyway.
To be continued
Annnd here we’re, one of the major topic of chapter 3 is starting with Nate and Liam in the main roles ! What is happening ? You’ll know that soon...
The two idiots are definitely in loves. I mean, Damian is like a teenager who has a big fat crush. An angry, resentful and very vulgar teenager with yandere tendencies. And Liam... Well Liam is wondering how much weight he must put on to please his boyfriend. Cute ;)
As for Barbara well... She’s plotting in the shadows again.

The Love of a Cat, Chapter 19
Marinette spent the next day barricaded in her room. The prince. Oh, she had married the prince.
She nearly started crying again at the thought.
What was her luck? Honestly, just as she thought she could be happy with him. Just as she was beginning to believe she truly could become Lady Noir. That she could be his wife. That they could start a family. And the rug was ripped out from under her as it turned out he was a man she could never have.
A knock resounded at her door. “Marinette,” Alya’s voice rang out, heavy with concern. “Marinette, please open up.”
“Come in, Alya.”
Though the mirror of her vanity, Marinette watched Alya step inside. “What’s wrong?” she asked, shutting the door behind her.
“Who said anything?” Marinette countered.
“You should know better than to think you have to say anything at all.”
Marinette bit her lip to withhold the tears, ones quickly loosed when Alya placed comforting hands on her shoulders. “Tell me, girl.”
A shaky sob escaped her, and Marinette covered her face with her hands before the rest of the tears erupted. Alya bent over to wrap her arms around her best friend, allowing her to just cry it out, no matter how long it took.
“I love him,” Marinette eventually sputtered out. “A-a-and I can’t h-have him.”
More tears poured out of her. Alya did her part as supporting friend, rubbing Marinette’s back in soothing motions. “Why not?” she inquired gently. “Why can’t you have him?”
“He’s the prince.”
At that, Alya stiffened. She put Marinette at arm’s length. “What do you mean?”
Marinette wiped her wet cheeks with her sleeve. “He’s the Prince of Paris, Alya.” She sniffed, then rubbed her cheeks again. “He’s Adrien Agreste.”
Alya’s brow pinched together. “He’s…what? No. The prince is lost at war.”
Marinette frantically shook her head. “He’s not, Alya. He came back. A wreck, but he’s back. His father sent him here to heal. It’s his mother’s estate.”
“Lord Noir…is…”
Marinette nodded.
Realization dawned on Alya’s face. “You’re a princess.”
“That’s the problem!” Marinette cried, her face growing redder. “I can’t be. I’ll ruin him. I’ll be the mockery of the kingdom. Once this gets out to his father, he has every right and all the power to annul the marriage, which he will do to salvage his son. Which leaves me where? His mistress? The most I could ever be, which would still leave him in shambles and make me truly dishonorable. No. He has to disown me in order to save any reputation he has. Let the scandal die with Lord Noir. I’ll bear that burden, but he—” Marinette choked as tears began pouring from her eyes. “I can’t let him do that to himself.”
Alya didn’t know what to do with her crying friend other than hold her and rub her back reassuringly in hopes she’d quiet down. “I…” Alya eventually said, “I want to say that you deserve better than that. That you rightfully deserve to be the princess. But, girl…I hate to say this…but this is one of your wild ideas that might actually have some truth to it.”
Bitter words but true nevertheless.
“It hurts, Alya.”
“I don’t doubt it.”
“I love him.”
“I know you do.”
“I wish I didn’t.”
“I don’t think you mean that.”
“I do!” Marinette argued. “It would be easier to let him go.”
Alya had no words to say to that.
“After all this,” she mumbled, bitterly, brokenly, “after all the effort he put in…he saved me from marriage to Theo, from being…” She couldn’t say it. “And then…then he goes and makes me fall in love with him and…and it’s just a game because I…” she sniffed. “I’ll never be able to be his wife.”
“He must love you, though,” Alya argued, desperately wishing to give her friend any sliver of hope. “Otherwise he wouldn’t have wooed you.”
“Don’t say that, Alya,” Marinette begged. “Please, don’t remind me. I just want to forget everything he ever said to me. It only makes it hurt worse.”
Alya sighed, at a loss for what to do. “Tell you what,” she said, a plan hatching in her mind. “We can take a walk through the gardens later today once I’m done with my chores. We’ll get you out of your room, into the sunshine, and just walk or talk or whatever you want to do. All right? I’ll meet you there at three. How does that sound?”
Marinette stared at her friend hesitantly.
“Come on,” Alya coaxed. “You know I’m right.”
It took a while, but Marinette eventually relented. “Okay.”
Alya patted her cheeks affectionately. “That’s my girl. Now, do you want me to bring you up lunch? You skipped breakfast.”
Marinette bit her lip in deliberation. “A little something might be nice.”
“Okay. I’ll be back up in a moment. And don’t forget about our walk.”
“I won’t.” At the very least, that was the one thing she would try to remember.
She purposefully wanted to be late. The very last thing that she wanted was to be alone where Adrien could find her and talk to her. She couldn’t handle that right now. She just couldn’t.
So, at one minute till three, she slipped from her room. She hurried as quickly as possible out to the gardens, careful to peak around every corner and check every hallway as she did. She couldn’t risk being careless and running into him.
At last, she made it out to the gardens, and she seemed to be in the clear. No Adrien in sight.
But no Alya either.
Marinette frowned. Of course her friend would be late the one time she didn’t want to be alone. Alya must have gotten hung up on her chores.
A bit frustrated and a hint nervous, Marinette made her way to the bench hidden among the bushes and flowers. The one covered by ivy, where she and Adrien sat and just talked…
No, she scolded herself. Bad Marinette. Don’t think about him. Don’t think abo—
The sound of footsteps broke her from her thoughts. But they weren’t light like Alya’s footfalls. They were heavy, thick-soled boots coming towards her. She scrunched lower on the bench. Please, not Adrien. Please not him!
“For the record, Alya told me to be here,” the man’s voice said. Not Adrien.
Marinette looked up.
Nino.
She didn’t know if that was better or worse.
He stood beside the ivy canopy, not moving towards the bench to sit even though there was plenty of room.
“Can I help you with something?” Marinette asked, unsure of what to say.
“Just to listen,” he answered. “Adrien came to me yesterday and told me what happened. He’s really shaken from it. And trust me, it takes a quite a bit to shake him like that.”
Marinette’s brow scrunched together as she frowned. “What?”
Nino nodded. “I’ll tell you that I’ve known Adrien for several years now. I know a lot about him, from the weight his promises hold to the depths of his compassion to his ability to bear anything. And I mean anything. So when he comes to me at a loss for words, sitting the foot of my bed most of the night while begging like a lost dog for me to help him out, I know something’s wrong.”
He sighed, shifting to lean against the ivy trellis.
Marinette finally snapped from her stupor to point to the seat beside him. “You can sit, if you’d like.”
Nino shook his head. “I don’t have much more to say.”
“Then don’t let me stop you,” she replied.
He gave her a half-smile before he grew serious again. “When I found out that Adrien had married you, I was shocked to say the least. When Kim and I confronted him and he admitted that he didn’t tell you his true identity, I hounded him for it. But, then he countered me saying that you had gone through so much that he didn’t want to put any more on you. That being Lady Noir so suddenly after what had happened was enough. That telling you would only hurt you in the end. What he right to think all that?” Nino shrugged. “I don’t know. I don’t even know if you should let him off the hook for this. But I do know one thing: he did it because he cared. And he still does care. Very much if the scene in my room last night was any indication.”
“Yes, but this isn’t about him caring about me,” Marinette countered. “It’s about him, and what I’ll do to him if he claims me as his princess. Nino, you can’t let him.”
Nino’s brow quirked. “Why not?”
“Because I’m a baker’s daughter,” she said. She swallowed down as much of her emotion as possible in order to continue. “I’m not royalty. And before you say anything about being Lady Noir…pretending to be a lady is one thing. Pretending to be a princess is a whole other.” She took a breath. She could do this. She could do this… “If he claimed me, his reputation and the kingdom’s reputation would be ruined. He can’t do that. He can’t sacrifice that much for me, no matter how much he cares.”
Nino stared at her long and hard, absorbing her words and mulling them over. “Then I best remind you of one thing about Adrien: his words mean everything to him. Vows are unbreakable in his opinion, as they should be anyway.”
“Then I’ll release him from the vows,” she cried. “I’ll demand it. Please, Nino. Tell him that. Convince him to let me go.”
Nino sighed. “No.”
“No?” Marinette repeated.
“No,” he repeated, his voice soft and kind. “Marinette, I’ll admit that when you came, I had my doubts about you. I thought Adrien’s good soul finally bit him in the end. But I was wrong. And your true selflessness toward my best friend, especially after learning who he is, only heightens my respect for you. So no. I’m not going to convince him of anything you said because he would hate the idea, and frankly, so do I. Not when you’re probably the biggest blessing that got bestowed on him.”
Marinette was left shock still on the bench, her mouth slightly open but no words coming forth.
With that, Nino tilted his hat in respectful parting. “I’ll leave you to think on that.” And then he left.
It took Marinette a good fifteen minutes to pull herself together and retreat back into the house. She felt numb walking back up the stairs. Would no one in this house listen to reason? She had to do this. She had to.
“Right this way,” Alya’s voice echoed down the hall.
“Thank you, miss,” a kind voice replied. A tapping sound echoed down the hallway, like a cane against the hard floor. Curious, Marinette hustled toward the front of the house, peeking out from her hiding spot behind a corner.
She gasped at the sight of the bony, gray-haired man trembling down the hallway. He paused at the audible sound and turned, revealing a smiling face with a gray beard. “Marinette.”
“Mister Fu,” she greeted, coming out to properly greet him.
He turned around, limping on his gimpy leg, relying staunchly on his cane. “Why, what a sight seeing you here. And in such a lovely gown.”
Marinette smiled, pretending she hadn’t just been stressed a mere moment ago. “Thank you.”
His smile widened. “You know what would really make that white gown stand out?” he said, making his way towards her. “A pair of red earrings. Such a stunning color, don’t you think?” With that, he gave her a wink, fully aware of their little secret.
Marinette’s grin turned pained. “Hardly. I only wear lucky objects.”
He rose a single brow. “Really? Red is known to be a very lucky color.”
She shrugged. “I think lucky objects can sometimes be mislabeled.”
Mister Fu seemed to ponder this. “And sometimes,” he said. “I think that maybe one cannot call their luck too early. Sometimes they have to face some hardship in order for their luck to truly be appreciated.”
With that, he chuckled. “But I am not here to talk. I am here to heal.”
“Oh,” Marinette realized. “Were you called for Alix?” Suddenly, her brow furrowed. “I wasn’t even aware you were in the area.”
His eyes gleamed. “A very kind young man bought a ring from me in return for enough money to buy passage to my home here. Emeralds to oppose rubies. A balance, don’t you think?” With that, he winked and turned back towards Alya. “Now, young lady, I believe you were showing me to the injured.”
Alya struggled to hide her confusion. “Of course, sir. This way.”

What a nice surprise the addition of Drew O’Brien has been to the Grizzlies program this season. (Sage Photo)
From Sullivan Arena, St. Anselm College, Goffstown, NH – Sunday, February 16, 2020
Perhaps the best thing about the shellacking that the Grizzlies took out in Keene on Saturday night was that they had less than 24 hours to think about it as they had to return to the ice for another game. Yesterday afternoon, at Sullivan Arena, Goffstown welcomed the Clipper Mules of Portsmouth-Newmarket for the only game in Division II hockey. Goffstown held their opponents to one shot on goal in the first period. Then scored five goals over ten minutes in the middle period to go on and earn a much needed 8-5 victory when all was said and done.
Maybe it was just a good night’s sleep or maybe a self reflection and renewal to taking care of the details. Either way, the Grizzlies came out and  played an outstanding first period of hockey against the visitors from Portsmouth-Newmarket. Goffstown held the Clipper Mules to one shot on goal, which didn’t come until the 14:00 mark, and created 13 shots of their own. Jackson Burke who was flying all over the place all afternoon ripped a slick backhand off of the post at 2:47 of the period, but that counted for neither a shot, nor a goal. Goffstown got on the board at 11:25 of the period when Eric DesRuisseaux led a nice breakout and pass to Drew O’Brien. The puck ended up on Grady Chretien’s stick and Grady pushed the puck past Jack Bussiere in net to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead. The first period would end the score 1-0, and Goffstown out shooting the Clipper Mules, 13-1.
Eric DesRuisseaux and the defensive unit had a great game on Sunday, save the penalty kill. (Sage Photo)
In the second period Goffstown had 13 shots again but this time many of their scoring chances were vastly improved. Despite the tremendous offensive outburst, a sign of things to come showed up in the first 90 seconds of the period. Goffstown took their second minor penalty of the game, and this time, Portsmouth-Newmarket cashed in with a goal. It took the Clipper Mules just 20 seconds of power play time to tie the game at 1-1. Andrew Madden scored from Jack Suhesky on a nice move, shot, and rebound play at 1:26. Goffstown took the lead for good at 4:13 of the period after Jackson Burke used his speed and skill to get to the offensive zone before dishing a beautiful pass to Grady Chretien who finished from there. At 6:51 of the period, on the power play, the Grizzlies scored on Eric Purcell’s first career goal right at the net’s doorstep. Eric DesRuisseaux had an assist on the play. Then at 8:31 Drew O’Brien, Grady Chretien, and Colby Gamache teamed up to give the Grizzlies a 4-1 lead, with O’Brien getting the goal. On back-to-back shifts Jackson Burke scored a pair of goals, at 12:16 and 14:36 respectively. The first one came on a great pass from Luc Ouellette and Burke buried the shot. The second was a nice touch pass from Theo Milianes while shorthanded that sent Jackson in on a complete breakaway all alone. Burke is an exciting player to watch, already possessing outrageous skills. He plays with great speed and a near reckless abandon. He is a player to watch as he matures and grows stronger, and if he ever masters the old, give the pick up to get it back approach he could be unstoppable. Goffstown led 6-1 after two periods. They outshot the Clipper Mules 13-7 in the second period.
Here, I unveil the nickname, Jackson “Breakaway” Burke. He had a big game against the Clipper Mules. (Sage Photo)
The third period wasn’t a total surprise from the standpoint of Portsmouth-Newmarket’s compete level despite trailing by five goals. Look at their schedule, they compete and battle every single night. So, when they scored on the power play, again, just 38 seconds into the period, their resolve earned a boost. Luke Suhesky scored the goal on a set up from Jack Suhesky. Goffstown answered quickly with a highlight reel worthy goal scored by Colby Gamache on a breakaway. Trailing by 4 goals at the time, Portsmouth-Newmarket started taking more risks trying to get back in the game and Grady Chretien made them pay with a pilfer and pass to set up Colby’s dash at 1:55. The Clipper Mules kept coming on though, scoring goals at 7:11, 8:51, and 13:44, all on the power play. For some reason it seemed like the Grizzlies were taking out every little injustice they ever felt, including any happening in the present, and somehow turned it into a wild west lack of discipline. Did the officials miss any calls that were worthy of penalties on Portsmouth-Newmarket? Of course. But even on a day when things were overwhelmingly going their way it seemed like the Grizzlies wanted to retaliate and/or sulk about the treatment. This is where leadership, maturity, and the choices made in reacting to adversity come in to play. It is conceivable that if the Grizzlies stayed out of the box through better decision making they may have had a running time third period in their favor just as it had gone against them a night earlier. That’s not to take anything away from the Clipper Mules. I realize that it takes another team to draw penalties and Portsmouth-Newmarket just kept attacking.
Colby Wright is another sleek skating member of the Grizzlies this season. (Sage Photo)
After Skyler Mikolaities scored from Ryan Higgins and Noah Foster; and Madden scored from the Suhesky’s; and Mike Durkin scored from David Blodgett; the Grizzlies only led 7-5 with 1:16 to play.
Portsmouth-Newmarket called their timeout and pulled Jack Bussiere from the net after the timeout. It took twenty seconds for Goffstown to slam the door when Grady Chretien nailed an empty net goal from Drew O’Brien. All in all, the Grizzlies had 40 shots on goal to just 19 for the group from the seacoast. On the other hand, Portsmouth-Newmarket didn’t need a lot of shots to cash in on 4 of 6 power plays.

20 essential Moodymann tracks selected by Kong & Gratts
Tumblr media
Catch Kong & Gratts warming up for KDJ this Saturday at Stereo Club in Brussels. In anticipation, both ensemble residents made a personal Moodymann top 10 for you. Read on below - in no particular order.
KONG
Moodymann is everything I love about house music: soulful, raw, enigmatic, unconventional, from Detroit, … I remember hearing Shades Of Jae for the first time as it was yesterday and when I started listening to his albums, I was completely hooked to his sound and vision. Visiting Detroit a few years ago stimulated my fascination for him (and the complete Detroit scene) even more. In 2014 I was booked to warm up for him for the first time at a Deep In House party in Brussels, in a back to back session with Antwerp’s finest Eklektiker. We were asked to play 3h and the room quickly filled with enthousiast punters. Eventually Moodymann was one hour late, which created an incredible anticipation in the audience. I will never forget the amount of energy that went through the room, definitely one of my highlight sets. Full recording is online by the way.
1. Moodymann - Dem Young Sconies (Planet E)
What a torpedo when you throw this to a dance floor. The power this beast holds is huge. Amazing sampling of the Belgian synth-pop tune ‘That’s The Game’ by Wet by the way. I often play them together in the mix, works well in both directions.
youtube
2. Moodymann - Mahogany Brown (Peacefrog Records)
This is the theme tune of his second album Mahogany Brown from 1998. I’m simply in love with this track. It’s so well crafted and designed, I can keep on listening to it. Check his track ‘Black Mahogany’ from 2004. It’s another variation on the same theme, equally good.
youtube
3. Larry Heard - Another Night (J.A.N. re-edit) (Track Mode)
When Kenny and Larry, two of my biggest heroes, appear on one release you know magic has happened. Moodymann gives this beautiful Larry Heard tune that little something extra, not much more than a cherry on the cake (some extra Detroitesque details here and there), but nevertheless a very sweet one.
youtube
4. Kenny Dixon Jr. - January (Soul City)
Moodymann released most of his music on his own label KDJ, on Carl Craig’s label Planet E and on Peacefrog. One of my most favourite MM records got released on Soul City though, the red coloured Mike Banks imprint. He only did one release on Soul City, under his real name Kenny Dixon Jr. It holds four classic deep house gems that I often play in my sets. Prices are high for this one, but it’s a good investment that will never lose value.
youtube
5. Rick Wilhite - What Do You See? (Moodymann remix) (KDJ)
Fellow Detroiter Rick Wilhite is a good friend of Moodymann and this EP is a good example of the Detroit house scene power. It got released in 1996 on KDJ and has two tracks by Rick Wilhite being remixed by Theo Parrish, Moodymann and Rick himself. I got my copy when Rush Hour re-issued this in 2009, always works on any dance floor.

6. Moodymann - Come 2 Me (KDJ)
From his latest album, released in 2014, with Nikki-O on vocals. A kinda of super sexy slow burner. ‘Take Me By Surprise, Like A Thief In The Night’.
youtube
7. Moodymann - Music People (KDJ)
The B-side of ‘I Can’t Kick This Feeling When It Hits’. Particulary love that little funny melody in the intro of the track, before he brings the ‘Welcome To Our World’ sample of Mass Production.
youtube
8. Moodymann - Backagainforthefirsttime? (Peacefrog Records)
Had to include a track from ‘Silence In The Secret Garden’, my most favourite Moodymann album (and cover art). The crying baby gives it an uncanny vibe, a recurring mood on this album and an overall quality of his music.
SILENCE IN THE SECRET GARDEN by MOODYMANN
9. Amp Dog Knight's -  I'm Doing Fine (Mahogany Music)
Amp Fiddler on Moodymann’s other label Mahogany Music, with the boss himself on production. Soothing jazzy house. It samples Syl Johnson’s ‘Is It Because I’m Black’, needless to say the African-American roots of house music is a strong subject for him.
youtube
10. Dewayne Davis ‎– It Shows (Extended Mix by Kenny Dixon Jr. & Norma Jean Bell) (Pandamonium)
Moodymann’s work with Norma Jean Bell is another highlight in his discography. Wanted to put a lesser known track here, one that is still for sale at a reasonable price and will always perform well on the floor.

GRATTS
Moodymann has been one of my favourite artists since I first discovered him as a young teenager. The mystery, the records, the imagery, the personality, the spoken words, the odd catalogue numbers on his KDJ imprint, the untitled tracks, alternate versions and B-sides… it all fascinated me a lot. For every gig, I seem to be able to dig out a KDJ record that will fit the occasion, his music often makes it into my dj-sets. Arguably a lot has changed since I first heard about Kenny Dixon Jr. I’ve seen him play countless times since, in very different circumstances, and with his rise to fame some of the mystery vanished. But in all honesty, I’ve yet to hear a bad set from the man and he always adds something interesting to the table. I’d choose KDJ in a shit mood over almost any other dj any day. Making a top 10 of Moodymann favourites wasn’t an easy task, but here’s an attempt.
1. Moodymann - Long Hot Sex Nights (Feat. NJB) (KDJ)
First Moodymann I ever possessed. I actually bagged it from the guy that I bought my first pair of Technics decks from. I remember him saying he’d never expected a fifteen year old kid to be into this record. Such an amazing live groove that I will never get sick off. One thing’s for sure, I certainly wasn’t around when the “original version (was) done live 12/3/94 at Jimmie D's Supper Club” in Detroit.
youtube
2. Moodymann - Your Sweet Lovin (KDJ)
First heard this track on the Forevernevermore album on Peacefrog, my second ever Moodymann purchase. (I got it from ‘33’ record store on the second floor of my favourite bar Apero in my hometown Leuven.) The whole album is one long trip that made a huge impression on me. I must have listened to it a thousand times. ‘Your Sweet Lovin’ was also released on KDJ 23-A, which is the version that I’ve played out a lot over the years.
youtube
3. Moodymann - Me And My Peoples Eyes (Instrumental) (Peacefrog Records)
Probably my most played out Moodymann track of all time. Though I could have easily picked the B-side ‘Don't You Want My Love’, another firm favourite, instead.
youtube
4. Moodymann - I Feel Joy (KDJ)
Timeless house music. Those chords, that scat! I have this one the ‘Inspirations From A Small Black Church On The Eastside Of Detroit’ record. (It also includes Theo Parrish’s seminal ‘Lake Shore Drive’ with that clever Tasha Thomas sample.) True story: my copy of this used to be warped as fuck. After reading about it online, I tried straightening it in the oven. IN THE OVEN. Yes that’s right, those people that blindly trust silly online tutorials, they exist. Thank god I managed to track down another copy a few years afterwards. (Although I still couldn’t deal with binning the warped and partly burnt one - it’s probably still lying around the house somewhere (sorry)).
youtube
5. Moodymann - Silence in The Secret Garden (Peacefrog Records)
This track goes places. Nearly 10 minutes of KDJ perfection. Takes balls to play this one in all its glory, but when you do, it pays off. Raw as fuck and cheap as chips.
youtube
6. Moodymann - Joy Pt. II (KDJ)
Breathtaking jam that truly encapsulates everything that Moodymann stands for to me. And a bit of an epic tune when dropped at the right moment.
youtube
7. Moody - It's 2 Late 4 U And Me (KDJ)
Moodymann becomes Moody for the first time for this ‘Ol' Dirty Vinyl’ EP. This one is for all the underground haters who don’t like the more recent, new skool Moodymann output. While I agree that some of it is indeed a bit underwhelming, this one is nothing but lush. It features Amp Fiddler on keys and his brother Thomas on bass. I haven’t found out who’s on vocals, anyone?
youtube
8. Norma Jean Bell - Nobody Is Gonna Love You (2 A.M. Instrumental) (Pandamonium)
The 2.A.M. version of ‘Nobody Is Gonna Love You’ (which also appears on NJB’s 2001 Peacefrog album ‘Come Into My Room’ simply as ‘Nobody’) is as vivacious, sexy and high-spirited as they come. With an all-star team like Moodymann, Kelli Hand and Norma Jean Bell behind the production, it comes as no surprise.
youtube
9. Moodymann - The Thief That Stole My Sad Days (Ya Blessin Me) (Peacefrog Records)
This version off the Forevernevermore LP is the one I like the most, probably again because of nostalgic reasons. The track has appeared in various incarnations on different releases (see also KDJ 23 for example).
youtube
10. Moody - Hello 2morrow (KDJ)
Fabulous, well crafted, almost pop music. This track has been known to stay in my head for days at a time. Now sing it: “hello tomorrow, goodbye yesterday!”.
