The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon ⭐⭐
I followed this book from it's conception, through it's editing, and hyped it's publishing date on twitter. I was genuinely excited to read it, and really thought and hoped I'd enjoy it. I wasn't a huge fan of what I read of The Bone Season, but everyone assured me this was different! And to be fair, it was! I think in my heart, though, I knew the truth because I waited so long to read this and I'm sorry to say I did not have a great time.
My problem with Samantha Shannon seems to be she creates these wonderful worlds full of interesting magic systems and characters that are fun to follow, but there's too much crammed into the book as a whole. In The Bone Season, I felt the Rephaim were unnecessary. In Priory there are too many points of view. There were things I liked, this wasn't a complete waste of time, but wow they were hard to come by in the end.
What did I like?
-Ead! Ead was clearly the main character and I think it would have worked better if it was just Her Book (I'd also settle for her and Tané, please Tané deserved more page time than she got) -Sabran. I'm surprised, but not really, that people didn't like her. She's complicated! She's mean! She loves deeply! She's a person! People just hate women who are mean lol -MAGIC! Magic comes from fruit that comes from the stars? It's fire and water and ice and air? NEAT! COOL! Cool magic systems seem to be SShannons strong point! -High fantasy with no sexual assault or threats of sexual assault. There was a little misogyny with the way Sabran and her line is treated for their ability to give birth (and no, one throw away line of "This is bad actually!" doesn't fix it lol) but it fit in context and considering no one was mean to women for being women I'll let it slide!
What didn't I like?
-LACK. OF. DRAGONS. yall there are dragons on the COVER, every time someone talked about this online, they added dragon emojis. So why, in the more than 800 pages, did dragons show up for maybe five pages TOTAL. Like if we went line by line and pieced all those lines together, it would maybe take up five pages. Ten if I'm being generous and include the dragons that are The Enemies. Which, by the way, -Dragons are Mean. I've discovered that I prefer dragons to be neutral to allies, I don't like dragon books where we are slaying dragons. It's nice that we have both here, no group of people? Creatures? Are a monolith, but I want more of the eastern dragons! They were pushed aside and we hardly saw them! We hardly saw any of them! If you promise me dragons, then deliver! The! Dragons!!!! -Writing style. I'm thinking maybe SShannon's writing style and I do not vibe at all. I'm not sure what it is about it, I know she doesn't like writing action scenes and so avoids them, and I love reading action scenes, but that didn't feel like the entire problem here? But something about this writing detached me from the characters. Yes I liked Ead, but I felt nothing about Tané, other tha wanting MORE of her. SShannon spent a lot of time saying not much at all, it's really rather impressive. -Tané in general. Part of the writing problem is the way the POVs were split. It was most obvious in Tané's storyline. She has everything stripped away from her, but the emotional impact wasn't there because we hardly spent any time with her. -The Priory. The book is named after it, but we're hardly there at all. I spent a good chunk of the first half wishing Ead would go back to the Priory, but once she was there, I wanted her to leave. The Prioress' motives also seemed iffy to me? Ead was right, why spend nearly ten years trying to keep Inys afloat and then go "actually! Nevermind! Let it burn!' -Plot....holes? Not so much holes but Convenient Plot. I was ready to ignore some of it, suspension of disbelief and all that, but nah I"m going to be picky now! The scene that stuck out the most was Ead being chased and hunted down and CONVENIENTLY wyrms attacked her pursuers and she was the one who got away. Or how about Niclays at the LITERAL LAST MOMENT deciding to have a change of heart because......plot has to move forward? Also. What the fuck happened to Ishari lol Tané noted Ishari was disappointed to be sent to Feather island, but said she hoped their paths would cross again one day! And then! Tané goes to Feather Island! And NO MENTION OF HER AT ALL! Or how abut Loth learning a VERY BIG VERY IMPORTANT PIECE OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE NEIGHBORING KINGDOM AND THEN NO ONE MENTIONS IT UNTIL NEARLY THE END LIKE "OH YEAH BTW THE PRINCESS THERE IS COOL LOTH SAID SO" -Wrap Up. I didn't really mind the final Big Fight. I know even fans of the book have been disappointed, but honestly it's one of the strongest stretches of the book, even if it was a little hard to follow at times. What bothered me was after. I know I tend to be impatient when reading the final chapters of a book, the What Happened Next bits, but never have I been so annoyed as to have to read a wrap up from the POV of someone who WASN'T EVEN CONSCIOUS. I suppose it's better than a book where a single first person POV character is knocked unconscious mid battle and then the next scene is "and then everything was over" but come ON.
I know she had to edit this book down a LOT, which. Girl. It's 800 pages how was there MORE. So maybe my questions were answered in things that were cut, but I could not physically handle any more of this book. I got fatigue from her writing, I cannot handle more of it at once, but considering how long it takes her to finish a book (not a complaint! Everyone has a different pace!) I also would not have wanted to wait that long for a conclusion. There's no winning for me here. We were simply not meant to be. It's just that if I'm going to read a book that takes hundreds of pages to say nothing at all by an author that puts out a book once every few years at best, I'd read VE Schwab or Patrick Rothfuss.

fic tag game
got tagged by @burntblueberrywaffles. thank you <333 doing this while i'm in a good mood lol.
How many works do you have on Ao3? 31 published ones (i have deleted at least 1 and orphaned 4 or something).
2. What's your Ao3 word count? 161,653 in total.
3. What fandoms do you write for? wednesday (the latest one), some kdramas, and i have also written for ouat and hannibal. back on lj, i used to write a lot for house md.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Slow, Long, and Excruciatingly Painful (Wednesday (TV 2022))
You Have Shrunk to the Size of My Thoughts (Wednesday (TV 2022))
I Predict a Riot (Wednesday (TV 2022)
Stop (Wednesday (TV 2022))
I Carried You for Aching (Crash Landing on You)
5. Do you respond to comments? yes! comments always make me happy and i appreciate readers who take the time to drop comments, so i want to take the time to respond to them.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? maybe... Stop (wednesday)?
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? omg, i just realized most of my fics end happily, so idk what to pick lol. but maybe either I Carried You for Aching (crash landing on you) or Magic Hours (memories of the alhambra) because they're both fix-it fics where i resurrect a character from literal and figurative canon death lol.
8. Do you get hate on fics? i'm not sure i can call it a full-on hate, but someone got snippy under one of my "wednesday" fics once. i already deleted it because it made me upset but i still remember what it said and who it was from because i'm a libra and petty, lol.
9. Do you write smut? What kind? when i think smut is needed in a story, i will write it. not an expert, though, so i tend to write super vanilla smut scenes lol.
10. Do you write cross-overs? no, because i don't really read cross-overs, so i don't write it.
11. Have you ever had a fic translated? yes. my old house x cameron (house md) fic that was posted on lj got translated to italian.
12. Have you ever cowritten a fic before? no.
13. What WIP you would like to finish, but doubt you ever will? i talked about it before. the first line is still incomplete, and it goes like this:
"Three goddesses walked into a cave. The monster who lived in it asked,"
the monster is tyler galpin. i doubt i will ever write it because i don't have the motivation right now and i need a lot of motivation to write it, because the story is supposed to be kind of... filthy lol.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship? oh, oh, dear. umm. for now, i will choose philip x elizabeth from "the americans" because the show is already ending and it's a happy one, sort of.
15. What are your writing strengths? i'm basing this entirely on comments i got, lol. i think it's my prose? feel free to refute this, lol.
16. What are your writing weaknesses? i can't write long fics. so far, the longest one i've written "only" has 7 chapters.
17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? why not?
18. First fandom you wrote for? ig the first one i religiously wrote for is house md (house x cameron). but the last time i checked on these fics, i completely, utterly forgot the plots etc lol. i don't think i want to associate myself with them anymore.
19. Favourite fic you've ever written? maybe i will choose my wednesday x tyler "practical magic" au, I Put a Spell on You, because it's my longest one so far and i'm proud to have finished it. and not sure it's my favorite, but Oh God, I Think I'm Falling (wednesday) has the longest smut scene i've done so far, and i had fun writing that part, so.
20. What fic would you want to rewrite one day? none, i think.
i'd like to tag @badmoodbatflowers, @cosmic-lullaby @nouklea, @transitat, @therulerofallpotatos & of course anyone who wants to do this.

guess who's back with another question lol
so I've been struggling to get back into fixing my first drafts.. it's exhausting and i really just want to write new stuff but if i do that i won't fix any of the drafts, I'll just keep writing (+ what if i decide to change sth when rewriting my drafts? i can't write new stuff then)
so i find myself at a standstill where is stagnate and do nth. any advice? 😁
If you ever have a manuscript (and I mean a full, completed draft, not like the first ten chapters of an eleven-chapter novel) that you want to do anything with--query, self publish, post online, show to friends--revision is a necessity. Obviously you don't need to revise if you don't want to, but if you want your writing to be as strong as it can be, revising is just as important as drafting.
I think part of why you don't feel motivated to edit and revise is that you're using the verbiage "fix." It makes you believe the work you've done is inherently flawed as opposed to the reality of it being a work-in-progress. A manuscript can feel like a completed project because, well, the book is there! You wrote it all down! And while that is certainly an accomplishment and something you should treat yourself over, it's still not done. If your brain even a little bit thinks of it as "done," then your next thought is going to be: damn, there are so many flaws here, time to fix all my fuckups. It's a thought that paralyzes attempts to actually do something, either to revise or to work on a different project.
The best advice I have, then, is to not let your indecision paralyze you. It's difficult to do anything "wrong" in the writerly life as long as you keep writing (whatever that means for you, whether it's every day or a few times a week). If you want to make yourself eat your writerly vegetables by taking a month off of drafting to revise your manuscript, go for it! It's well worth the effort. If you want to keep drafting and set that manuscript aside, that's okay too! Just know that if you ever want to do anything with that piece (query, self publish, post online, show friends), you're going to want it to be the best it can be, and that means editing and revising.
Side note: you might also find yourself disliking your writing projects near the end of them or after you've finished them. This is largely the talk of a little demon inside you; don't listen to him. If you think you're an alright writer, treat everything you write with respect, because everything you write says something, likely many things you don't recognize for a while, about yourself. If you're in your earliest stages as a writer, though, I'd feel fine setting your writing off to the side if it falls out of favor for you. If you're a new writer, everything you do is experimentation; you don't know how to express yourself yet. I have I think a ~140 page manuscript I wrote in high school that I will never ever look at again because I was young and experimenting and I hate it. This is okay and normal! BUT if you're at least an alright writer (and this is entirely up to your discretion), I wouldn't listen to the little demon in you at all.

if you could add any one scene into the rq series what would you add?
I think I would want to add the moment in which Elara tells Maven that he'd be marrying Mare and that they'd begin working to get Maven on the throne. Imo this scene would work best from Elara's pov as we would get her thoughts on things and Maven's cause she can just look lol. I think this scene would've been beneficial for multiple reasons.
For one, it would showcase Elara and Maven's raw dynamic. We know that both Elara and Maven put on masks when they're around others, but I'd be willing to bet these mask drop when they're alone with each other. I think the only scene in the series where it feels like we're close to this "raw dynamic" is during the betrayal scene, and that's only because they assumed all three witnesses would be dead soon enough. I also want to know how she treats Maven when they're alone, if she was gentle or harsh with him when telling him what they would be doing. Or if Maven gave her much push back with the plan or if he agreed to it with little convincing.
I also think it'd be interesting to see Maven's immediate reaction to the plan. Maven was raised thinking he would only ever become Cal's advisor, that's what Elara was preparing him for after all. To go from that to becoming King is a big jump and I want to know if that alone needed convincing from Elara and I want to know how she convinced him. There's also the issue of Elara telling Maven that in order to get him on the throne, they would need to kill a lot of people in the court including Cal and Tibe. I think it goes without saying, but this definitely needed convincing. It's one thing to hate your father and brother (and others in the court) it's another to orchestrate their deaths yk. I also want to know what his initial thoughts on Mare were and what he felt when he was told he'd be engaged to her.
Overall, I think this scene would be good to show more on Elara and Maven as it's, in a way, the start of everything. We would get some insight on the way the two central antagonists interact with one another and maybe even see some of their motivations (it's very sad we don't have that in the books already tbh). I have a lot of grievances with the way Elara and Maven's relationship is portrayed (or rather how there is little to no portrayal) and some of it could be fixed with literally one scene that shows them interacting one-on-one.
I think if I were to pick another scene it would be that moment in the first book in Chapter 17 when Maven tells Mare to leave and he's left alone with his mother seemingly on the verge of an argument. This one would be good for the same reasons mentioned prior (with minor differences due to it being an argument and all) except for the reaction stuff as that would've already happened lol.

I'm calling upon the baldur's gate 3 enjoyers who want to listen to me be unhinged because i'm having a 'who to romance' crisis and i need feedback. yes i'm at work right now. and i'm only in act 1. but LISTEN. shakes my awful little guy upside down and steals his lunch money
magni:
drow rogue. raised to worship lolth. considers his 'devotion' to the goddess as more a devotion to chaos, because he's completely certain that if given the chance lolth would just eat him.
he's completely unbothered by that, prompting everyone in the party to be like 'bro are you ok'
thinks he's very smart for going 'nothing in life matters! (skateboard kickflip)' to fuel his selfish behavior and is very irritated that the people in his camp are making him actually examine that
lives to cause problems on purpose. literally. it's his only motivation for anything (for now)
to make it WORSE he is an exceptional liar who is not against playing the long game, so you may not realize he is being absolutely horrible about something until the Dawning Realization Hits.
He's going to face Consequences for that. Eventually. There Will Be Growth i promise he is going to learn how not to be terrible and he is going to hate it the whole time
which leads me to.
i hate having to make romance decisions quickly because i want to like... pay attention to character dynamics instead lmao. but i understand WHY it's that way. I'm just a baby.
astarion or lae'zel are probably the only options that make sense rn, but i'm just here like. what if there's another option that would be more fun and i just don't know enough of everyone's secrets. I turned down Gale and i've been sitting here for like 2 days going 'BUT WHAT IF......'
magni and lae'zel are currently very similar, but he's lies and deception where she's blunt and honest. I kind of like the idea of keeping them Terrible Besties though. having to confront their issues together and hating every minute of it. he's like i think i'm dating someone and she's like '''dating''' what a stupid word. and he's like yeah i know wtf is up with that
which leaves astarion, but i'm getting the feeling astarion is secretly an angry puppy under 12 layers of posturing and magni's current form of showing affection is 'i will kill that guy for you but first i will ruin 3 generations of his estate' and his usual reaction to emotional vulnerability is to internally do an evil little :) like you should not have told me that. he would not know what to do when someone he does not actually want to hurt gives him information he could hurt them with. it would freak him out. he would not sleep for 2 days
In the end i'm probably going to end up headcanoning impossible poly romances (gale watching him be a bastard like 'i can fix him' while astarion goes no he is going to actively make you worse) but like. if you have thoughts on the romances, lay em on me. I've avoided spoilers but i'd be super interested in knowing if any of them are like.. extra good or surprising lol. ya feel me. am i making sense. i feel like the pepe silvia meme

happy to see you back (sorta) and that you are ok! I'd love to hear your thoughts on shows and what you're looking forward to, but no pressure :) whatever works best for you
HIIIII hello happy to be back (sorta)!! I have about 9 months worth of show to review so I'll give them a grade out of 5 and I'll try to be brief with any comments lol I haven't scrolled through my dashboard on here in ages so I have no clue what everyone thought about them!
Under a read more because it's literally an essay
WATCHED (in some sort of chronological order)
-To my star s2: 3.5/5
I think I need to rewatch it already and binge it because following it weekly was extremely frustrating to me and I feel like I might have been too harsh on my judgement. Everything about Jiwoo's choices and actions seemed extremely irrational to me and it was a struggle to watch. It might make more sense if I watch all of it at once again though. It was still well made, well acted and well produced so at least there's that.
-Roommates of Poongduck 304: 5/5
I am EXTREMELY biased about this show because I've been obsessed with this pairing since Kissable Lips (camp masterpiece, I feel like nobody gets it the way I do) and I was sooooo happy to see them again with different characters. I honestly loved the show, I feel like it was using a lot of common kdrama tropes as opposed to the usual bl tropes and it was so fun to me. The pace felt great, the characters and their motives made sense, the chemistry was so great... That said I need everyone to go vote for Jiwoong on Boys Planet because being an idol has been his dream and his goal for ages and he finally deserves a GOOD chance
-Triage: 4/5
I had started this back when it was airing but I was missing a few episodes and I have to say I am pleased with it. It had some weird pacing issues and that's why I wouldn't give it a full 5/5 but the plot was very interesting and engaging. I would definitely recommend it.
-Love mechanics: 4.5/5
I was very unfortunately a love mechanics (2020) enjoyer and veemark have a hold on me so I had to watch it and it was definitely better than the original one. They fixed some of the plot issues and the longer run time allowed them to give the characters more depth. It did feel slightly repetitive or slow at times but the actors are so good that I didn't even mind.
-Vice versa: 3/5
Very cool concept, I was a bit worried about it at first but I enjoyed the plot. My main issues were with the pacing (it felt way too slow at times) and I wasn't completely sold on the romance/chemistry either. The way the parallel universe rules were explained felt a bit lame, having someone just straight up tell them how it works while I was hoping they'd have to figure things out together. I have to say i LOVED the small details they used to define the other universe like the transparent paper or the different food, it was a fun extra element that highlighted they were strangers there. I honestly don't remember too much else of this show which means it wasn't a standout to me.
-The Eclipse: 4/5
THE ACTINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG I was so obsessed. The plot got a bit lost but wow I loooooooved the brainwashed school prefect slowly realizing he's being manipulated by the people in power. That was GOOD. I liked the characters more than the plot they ended up with. The trailer was overpromising in that regard, I was expecting a full on mystery/possible scifi elements but it got sidetracked and lost itself. The final episodes when they're shooting the movie make no sense to me. It still gets a 4 because of the main couple, both characters and actors.
-Kieta Hatsukoi: 5/5
I had not seen this before and I finally caught up and wow it is as good as they say. Genuinely heartwarming and wholesome, i LOOOOOOVE the friendships, the OST is so good omg it was so sweet and funny. I already want to rewatch it, it's in the same category as Light On Me for cute slowburn with wholesome friendships
-The director who buys me dinner: 1.5/5
Honestly it's a 1.5 because the plot is somewhat interesting but it did NOT deliver at all. The short episodes might have been the first hindrance to fully developing the storyline but the weird idol with a bad attitude side character subplot took up way too much time. The flashbacks felt rushed and hard to follow, I think Tinted With You had tried something similar but in my opinion they had managed the pacing and plot way better. This is one of those webcomic adaptations that gets destroyed by the short running time and low budget unfortunately. If it ever got remade properly I'd be interested though.
-Cutie Pie 2 You: 2.5/5
It started out better than s1 and then I sort of lost interest and remembered why I didn't like s1. SO much wasted potential. I only tuned in to see Nuer and Syn and they did not disappoint (I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED their spicy scene, god it was so awkward and honest and true and still managed to be hot) but I wish they'd gotten more screen time. Please give them a spinoff! The whole wedding fiasco was so boring, the comedy did not land well this time, how do you manage to have so much filler content in a 4 episode special is beyond me
-Between Us: 4/5
Oh the UWMA nostalgia hit so hard with this one. It was exactly what it should have been and slightly better than I was expecting (I think New's directing has improved over the years). Seeing Pharm, Team and Manaow together again made me so happy, my best friends. When the original ost started playing at the end I might have sobbed. I spent the whole time screaming for Team to get theraphy and stop trying to actively trigger his PTSD but he wouldn't listen. I had read the novel and I was a bit worried about the adaptation but I think they managed to capture the sense of comfort and safetly that Win provides to Team very well. Even the misunderstandings and the repressed feelings weren't too frustrating except for one or two instances. I even managed to enjoy the new side couple, Prince is SO CUTE!!!!!!!!! Man I just love characters who are sure about their identity and have been for a long time.
-The New Employee: 3.5/5
Cute. Nicely acted. Adored the flashbacks to university and the friendships. Plot wasn't anything too exceptional and it seems like they ran out of it 4 episodes in. Just okay
-Individual Circumstances: 2/5
The past few months have not been a happy time for kbls. They seem to be going for quantity over quality and they've been falling flat. I think the parallel between the story and the novel being written are the only interesting thing about this show, but they're also so obvious they don't really help saving it. I zoned out so bad I can't even remember why they had broken up in the first place. Were they even together? The low budget was also a heavy weight here, it just wasn't good.
-Gap: 2.5/5
I struggled rating this because it has some high highs and some low lows. I just wasn't vibing with the plot, i know the title is literally GAP and the show is about the gap in age, power, etc between them but god it got so repetitive and frustrating I couldn't really take it seriously anymore. Things I liked: Freen's acting, i think she did a great job portraying Sam. I liked Sam's character a lot, her awkwardness and apparent coldness and how she tried to break free from the manipulative power her grandma had over her. I think she was very interesting and layered and well acted. Another thing I liked were the intimacy scenes. I wasn't expecting much but I found them to be very well done, the chemistry was good and they felt very realistic. I don't think they were overdone and honestly we needed some lesbian sex to restore the balance after 5000000 bls. Cons are literally everything else, the people at the office and Sam's friends all felt like comic relief caricatures with no depth, Kirk was absolutely unsufferable. I'm only saving Tee and Yuki who I am hoping will get a spin off because I SAW THEM... I heard that baby in the last episode... How did they sacrifice such an interesting side couple for what? 10 minutes of extremely pointless Saint screen time? As a lesbian, (this is my excuse as to why this got so long)
-My school president: 5/5 10/10 1000/1000 <3/<3
WOW!!!! I was expecting less than nothing because the trailer had not prepared me. I thought it would be yet another boring high school slow burn with unexperienced actors but instead we got this amazing gem. I am SO happy I gave it a chance, it had my attention right from episode 1 and it was my motivation to get to the end of each weekend. Gemini and Fourth are incredible!!!! It was such a wholesome show about frienships and growing up together and being supportive. I loved every minute of it. THE MUSIC!! oh my god the music!!!!!!!!! Both the original songs and the bgm were so on point, I am so obsessed with all the tracks. I am usually not a fan of slow burn but if it's like this then I am all for it. The characters are clear about their feelings a few episodes in already and then it's more of a self imposed boundary that they keep pushing and pushing and that tension is just so much fun to witness. Honestly GMM was on fire these past few months, all my favorite shows were from them and it seems like they've been listening to some feedback unless it was a coincidence that all the good shows ended up airing at the same time lol
-The warp effect: 4/5
I am so confliced about this show. Everything about it is a full 5/5 for me except for Alex's character (and Army not shutting up ever). I'm trying not to spoil the ending because it's only been a week since it aired but it's hard to explain what I liked and what I didn't like about it lol. I guess I liked how the time skip worked but, while for most of the show it felt like it was an ensemble cast narration, the ending really does remind us that after all Alex is the main character. The side characters and their subplots were all interesting and varied and felt very refereshing for GMM standards (except for Army constantly outing Joe, I get that they were trying to portray him as someone very sure and proud of his identity and a bit slow at understanding others but man... they were really forcing his character to get some drama between them). Spent a solid bunch of time rooting for a Jean/Kat couple only for it to get adressed in canon and get laughed at so I quickly and bitterly gave up and accepted they were never going to be anything but straight. The more we found out about Alex and Jean's first time the more horrified I was, I did NOT want that Alex to ever be dating her so I was scared they'd put them together anyway since they're main leads. The actual ending was a compromise I can accept but still... Not ideal. If only there was a magical camera to send all idiots forward in time to witness the damage they've done...
-Moonlight Chicken: 10000000/5
A masterpiece!!! Legendary!!!! Everything I've ever wanted and more!!! There was nothing I didn't like? Not a single thing I can think of? Maybe just Alan being overly bitter and mean but oh well assholes exist everywhere. I went in with zero expectations because the trailer had made it seem like it would be all about cheating, as soon as I found out there would be no cheating involved I dropped all my reserves and was on board 100%. EarthMix were perfect and delightful, they're just so good together and their characters worked very well as a pairing. Surprisingly slow burn seeing how ep 1 part 1 starts. I like that Wen's job is shown a lot and he actually has real tasks to do that someone in his position would do (him answering emails at the temple really got to me lol). The atmosphere the setting the lighting the colors... Just gorgeous. AND THE SIDE COUPLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE don't even get me started on Li Ming and Heart. Wow. Getting double GeminiFourth for a few weeks was such a treat, 3 days in a row of them delivering incredible performances (their first kisses lining up on the two shows was just adorable).
-Never let me go: ?/5
I sort of dropped this one? I was following it weekly up until ep 4 or 5 and then it lost me. The pacing was way too off and they had weird audio issues. The editing as well was bothering me, with really long closeups with nothing happening and similar issues. The plot wasn't interesting or new enough to keep me interested. I might finish it now that most of the shows I was following have ended.
CURRENTLY WATCHING
-Bed Friend:
I started this for two reasons: I will be tuning in for its spinoff since it's TutorYim AND I've been hearing about this show possibily getting made for the past 3 years. I remember when people wanted it to go to SaintZee (rip) so I wanted to check it out and I see what they meant. James has Saint energy, I won't elaborate. It's definitely as explicit as a show about friends with benefits should be lol I hope they can develop the romance aspect nicely and I hope it won't stem soley from King trying to "fix" Uea. The flashbacks to Uea's past are rather alarming (another instance of me screaming GET THERAPHY at him every time he's on screen) and I'm hoping there won't be too many more insances of them. As if the abusive mother wasn't enough? It feels too tropey to send all these bad "punishments" his way because he's an explicitly gay character.
-A Boss and a Babe:
Here comes another fully biased review, I couldn't not watch this as an avid ForceBooker. Only one episode in so there is not too much to say but honestly I am on board with ANYTHING from them. It's directed by New so I am prepared to be let down at some point but they could seriously just show me 60 minutes of Force's face and I wouldn't mind. I'm excited because it did not look slow burn-y at all and that fills my heart with joy. I like office romance comedies so much what can I say. I KNOW Cher looks like an absolute dumbass but I know there's a brain in there. He's so cute he'll never get on my nerves. I will fight every single person on MDL to defend Book and his acting, I don't care.
LOOKING FORWARD TO
-Our Skyy 2: STACKED LINEUP. More PhuTian and more PatPran are a dream come true, a blessing, a gift etc. Please air soon I need to water my crops. I am honestly excited for all couples (I just need to catch up on never let me go I guess), give me that little extra content to boost my serotonin and PLEASE BE GOOD
-23.5: MILKLOVEEEEEEEEE I also really really want this to be good because it has so much potential please please please. Happy about more GeminiFourth as well, and Ford too! He did so well on My School President, I need to see more of him.
-Middleman's love: TutorYim. TutorYim. TutorYim. TutorYim.
-Only Friends: I am hoping this will be a BL version of friend zone with a more grown up writing. Stellar cast again so I am very intrigued. (I've been affectionately referring to it as the gmm horny show)
-Last Twilight: could be a big hit or a big miss depending on how they handle it. I am very curious and a bit hopeful after seeing Moonlight Chicken
-The Next Prince: I think I'll end up hating this one but the trailer was so dreamy, straight out of a royalty AU. The truth is I believe Nunew should be the next global idol and singing a few OSTs for his bls + the occasional youtube cover isn't the way to go. (I am sort of joking, of course if he's happy doing this then it's not an issue at all) (IDK why Wabi Sabi sent their actors (Yacht especially, wtf) on a Korean survival and Nunew is still shackled to Zee)
-Absolute Zero: I feel like this will be a disaster. It sounds interesting on paper but I have zero faith they'll do it justice. Please prove me wrong
-The Korean Why R U remake: I feel like I am contractually obliged to tune in since the original show is what made me who I am today as a person. I have serious doubts this will work the same magic on me.
-About a hundred new Kbls (I truly can't keep up and I end up skipping most of them unless someone I trust really recommends me one at this point)
-Rumored season 2 of blueming? Rumored season 2 of Kissable Lips???????
I think that's all for now (lol) I swear to never take another 9 month break because this recap took me 2 full hours to write

Long post, I found a comic book I wrote with friends like 25 years ago and I'm reading it and here are some thoughts lol
In 2nd grade myself and 2 other friends wrote a comic book called Robots Mission to Mars and I thought it was just lost to the ages, a memory where as I get older I'm unsure if I made it up or not. However 2 days ago deep in my grandmother's attic was a random folder that she found and it had 3 different comic books I made and a few drawings, and within it was Robots Mission to Mars. It's surprising cause 1) I was sure it was lost and 2) my grandmother kept NOTHING from my childhood, so it was a complete accident this managed to slip through the cracks. Half of the cover is ripped off but overall the important bits are there complete with elementary school drawings of robots and space ships.
The inside cover even has an advertisement for a future planned "The Star Rocket Robots".
It's obviously poorly written but I'm honestly surprised, we fully came up with a backstory of a spaceship crashing into a kids house, maiming him, or as I wrote, "his arms tore off and his knee down got tore off", and three robots (Musuci, Syber-X, and Gama) survived the crash, saving our hero Johnny by taking him into their underground lab (i mean technically it was underground since they crashed I guess) and the robots fixed him by turning him into a cyborg, they then named him J-7. J-7 then helps rebuild the space station and in the process learns to be a robot. "It had a lab with computers and all that science stuff". By page 4 we are introducing enemy robots with very clear motives, Deathmole, the main bad guy is creating the perfect spy robot, aptly named Spier so he can steal plans. There's a large fight with 3 other evil robots, but since they're robots, Deathmole just makes a stronger and bigger 2.0 version of them.
Anyways I'm just genuinely impressed that as 2nd graders we somehow managed to grasp the concept of semi coherent storytelling and literally the heroes journey, as crude as it may be. It's also ready to be sold to marvel because at one point their space ship blows up and one of the characters simply goes "Well what about our extra space ship Gama? 'Oh I forgot about that one' he responds" Aliens show up for no reason and are unexplained other than they're bad guys. So we're even ready for the MCU.
We even ended on a complete cliffhanger. The last page is just
"Now let the fun begin. Ok let's rock you guys! Computers. Check. Gama screen on. Check. J-7 desk. Check.
I think the desk is meant to be like.. a console lol.
I might scan this and upload it somewhere. Every once in a while I still talk to one of my friends that did the art for some of the robots and we talked about it a few years ago, he'd probably be so fucking stoked to see it. I also think it serves as a neat time capsule into my childhood brain.
In the folder I also have "Scotts Awesome Adventures", which is 2 pages of panel comics that was made by me. Then I also have Pumpkin Man made by the same few of us who made Robots, but I only have the cover for it sadly.
Honestly I think one day I'd like to revisit Robots Mission to Mars. Maybe I'll even finally make that offshoot of The Star Rocket Robots a few decades later, but I don't know if it can live up to the hype.

open for wenclair ficlet requests
i just finished the show yesterday and i'm itching to write them, but i have yet to come up with my own ideas lol so if anyone has anything they want written, hmu! if you need examples of my writing, you can check my writing tag #clod not lefting but or my ao3. My writing tag is mostly links to stuff on my ao3, but there's some other stuff in there, too. at this moment, however, i do not have anything wenclair. i would like to fix that. also, i do write nsfw, but i'd like to keep this blog mostly sfw.
my thoughts on wednesday, enid, and wenclair under the cut, in case anyone is curious about it before requesting something:
Wednesday dislikes emotion (both in others and in herself) but she isn't so emotionally constipated that she can't understand them. I think it's funny to think of Wednesday being like "I am experiencing an Emotion? I am having Feelings? What is this Sorcery? I do not understand. Must kill with fire." However, she has Morticia and Gomez for parents… So I think she does know what romantic love is and how to identify it. She has just decided that that is not for her. I can understand her denying and refusing to indulge in romantic feelings or simply disliking the entire thing, but I don't think emotions are alien to her. Furthermore, she's a writer and a detective. Both require understanding human emotions to analyze motives. She may have a blind spot for herself/willfully ignore traces of it that reside in herself, but she isn't completely unfamiliar with the concept of Human Emotion.
Enid is very anxious and self-conscious about how others see her, but she also has a difficult time staying quiet and not speaking her thoughts out loud. And inside, she prioritizes being true to herself more than she does fitting into the mold. This means that she might care about what other people think and crave validation and acceptance, but at the end of the day, no matter how much she may wish she could take the easy way out and just do as she's told, she will choose to rebel in order to stand for what she thinks is right. I also think her colorful style is a sign that she enjoys standing out. She's afraid of negative attention and being rejected, but craves positive attention. Unlike Wednesday, who does not care about attention one way or another. This means, once again, her priority isn't really fitting into the mold. She wants to be accepted, sure, because she's anxious and fears rejection, but she's struggling hard to find and express her own unique identity. So, paradoxically, she cares a lot about what other people think and seeks approval, but at the same time refuses the boxes they want to put her in. She is very unapologetically herself even though sometimes her anxiety makes her wish she wouldn't be because it can make things harder for herself.
I am flexible on who initiates first for wenclair. I can see it going both ways.
I think Wednesday has a secret romantic streak and a not-so-secret penchant for melodrama that, combined, makes her a very good sweep-you-off-your-feet, intense, whirlwind romance love interest for enid.
On the flipside, I can totally see Enid having a secret bloodthirsty streak to match Wednesday's.
I might add more to this later but that's all I got off the top of my head

GIF MAKER ASKS IF YOU WILL PLEASE
1, 6, 8 (are there gif trends???), 12 (I AM AN INQUIRING MIND AND I MUST KNOW), 46
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME
1. What are your top 3 favorite sets you’ve made
I answered this one here: favorite sets
But can I interest you in one runner-up per fandom?
The X-Files: Bantering about the events of Fight the Future
Schitt's Creek: David's boyfriend -> David's husband
911 Lone Star: 🤨 (affectionate)
6. What is your least favorite movie/TV show to gif
Hmmm. I don't know if I've ever thought about it that way. I wouldn't necessarily give that title to any show or movie as a whole. But there are specific scenes from each show that I have had to put in time out because coloring them is just the WORST. Some of them are still in time out. Lol.
8. What gif trend do you hate
You bring up a good question: *are* there gif trends? I think maybe there are. At least, I've noticed different styles of gifs come and go over the years. At one point, very pale gifs were rather common. There was a time when most gifs were full width, but not very tall. (Although, I think that was mostly just people trying to fit within file size limits, which used to be only 3 mb. HOW DID WE MANAGE??)
Some gif styles look better on my laptop than my phone. And vice versa. But I can't think of any gif trends that I actually disliked overall.
12. What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever giffed
Tbh, I don't know. I'm sorry that's a very boring answer here. Lol. I think it's just that gif making is a very slow process for me. So if I've actually moved forward with a gif set and eventually finished it? I've had a lot of time to think about whether or not it's worth seeing through.
There are older sets that I cringe at. But it's really a quality/coloring issue. I know I could do better now. If I had the energy/motivation, I'd go back and fix them. Does that count?
46. Ever gotten a really sweet compliment over a set
I don't know if this something you'd categorize as a compliment, but someone once left a tag on a set that really stuck with me: #thank you for sharing your gifs op!
It was just such a nice thing to say, and I guess I needed to hear it. Normally, by the time I get to posting, my mind is just in anxiety mode. "Here's this thing. I worked very hard on it. I hope it doesn't suck, but all I can see right now are the flaws I was unable to fix."
I get so caught up in the reasons why I'm unhappy with a set that I have a hard time thinking about it the way that person did—as something to share with everyone else, even if it isn't perfect. So yeah. I try to remember that one.
Thank you so much for the ask, @lemonlyman-dotcom!

The Milgram fandom on here is a cozy type of small... Yet, somehow completely unhinged. Which makes sense for a web series centered around a bunch of fictional killers. Can't lie, I've been really entertained looking at what people will or will not forgive. It's even more fun to see what others think is going on with these characters. So, I'm going to put myself out there and say my interpretation of what they did. Plus, what I speculate the pairings represent.
I'll be throwing these out in pairs. Starting with Yuno and Haruka. I won't be going into too much depth. Since, I've spoken about Yuno in length before, and Haruka is a considerably straight forward case.
It is my belief that how the prisoners are paired together is indicative of the motive/emotional intent behind their actions. Bearing that in mind I believe the thing that ties Haruka and Yuno together is their Envy/attention seeking behavior.
For context, I was dragged into this whole thing by @apatchworkstar during the tail end of the first trial. So, most of the prisoners had a definitive verdict by the time I got into this. The only ones who didn't have a verdict were Amane, Mikoto, and Kotoko. However, after seeing Haruka and Yuno's first music videos. I was shocked to find they had been voted innocent. Cause I would have voted them both Guilty during the first trial.
Haruka clearly killed a kid who I thought to be his sibling, that and someone around Amane's age given he says he's not good with kids her age. Plus, animals during his first music video. I also didn't believe speculating he had a learning disability excused this or that he had one to be honest. Yuno's first music video made it abundantly clear she was partaking in a form of entrapment the extent of which I was uncertain about at that time.
Given my interpretation of what was shown I believed they both should have been voted guilty and would have voted them that way if I were there.
I'm certain that most have gathered by now they both killed due to envy/jealousy. They're the easiest pair to figure out. Haruka doesn't lie at all, and Yuno lies in such a blatantly coy way that I don't even perceive it as dishonest anymore. They are the most blatantly honest about what they did wrong and how they wish to be perceived and treated within Milgram. The ways they go about showing that though directly contrast each other.
Yuno is more passive leaning on being outright disdainful and cold to get the message across while Haruka will just say he wants something. Yuno will manipulate behind the scenes to get what she's after while Haruka will blatantly act up or behave to get what he wants in a shameless way. Making them nice foils for each other. If you look at it from a passive aggressive and aggressive framing.
Both of their second trial videos are out now. Given Haruka's second trial I'm voting him innocent. He clearly did the things I thought he did, the only thing that changed were a few environmental factors that recontextualized the issue. I'm a firm believer in yes, his mom fucked up on that one and if she couldn't use negative reinforcement to fix his behavior than there is no way that we can. Lol, hope he has fun here.
When it comes to Yuno though... I'd be happy with a fifty/fifty but I'm voting her guilty because of the noticeable hypocrisy. Yes, I know I sound like Futa but to be honest hypocrites are just annoying. Plus, Yuno is annoyed by that aspect of this as well. After stating she's the one who chose to allow us in to begin with asking, "Happy or sad? Why decide? Where'd you get your half-baked sense of justice? So, nauseating. So, creepy. Will you please disappear?"
Before brushing it off like she always does because she won't be bothered and going "Phew, anyway." and inviting us to grasp around blindly trying to find her again. In a coy if you want to know me open your eyes and look or stay blind searching for this idea of me you've created. Measuring her against our morality means she can only be innocent or guilty by our standards, never her own. It's something forced on her without her input or consideration towards how she feels about her actions. Causing her to become the same sensationalized topic, she berates in her first voice drama.
I understand why that would be annoying. Truthfully, Yuno is not special she is very much in here for the same shit Haruka is. Technically something I consider more pointless than what Haruka is in here for. He wanted affection from his literal parent who is shown to be physically and emotionally neglectful. Yuno, to her own admission, has a fine life and just wants the attention of someone she's romantically invested in. Despite her character not liking psychoanalysis the only thing I could gather that would excuse her behavior is blaming it on father issues.
This is because she states her family structure is her grandparents, mother, younger brother, and her. Though blaming it on that would be a disservice and a belittling of her character. Even if it were the case, just because someone is romantically interested in another person doesn't mean they are entitled to that sort of interest in return. She isn't owed anything more by her clientele than payment for her services. Parents on the other hand should ideally have unconditional love for their kids regardless of that child's capabilities or age.
Despite whether Haruka's mom intended to or not her actions clearly ended up giving Haruka a distorted understanding of affection. To the point that he takes all forms of attention as positive and smiles at being slapped. Cause he conflates being reprimanded and punished with being cared for. That's a parental failing. Parenting is difficult but fuck his mom. It's to the point that I can't even fault him for considering Mu to be his real mom.
Hell, she's a better option than his real one. At least Mu's conditions are ones that he can meet just never say no to her and behave well. While his actual mom's according to what we've been shown were impossible to meet from the start because he was just born wrong. I just find it wild that a bunch of people were like he just needs help, he can't do things as easily as other people while knowing he's a murderer during the first trial. Then when he got a bit of confidence from that recognition be like no we've got to put him back in his place. For his benefit though, like alright, okay...Sure.
I feel mostly the same way towards anyone voting Miss I don't know why the public sensationalizes adultery so much innocent. Then being like Kazui might have cheated and that's bad. Where's that energy you guys had at Mikoto being shirtless in his own house while showering towards Yuno wearing lingerie throughout her entire second trial video? The animators knew what they were doing there but not here, okay. Super weird that she did the things she did for love like Mahiru did but since she's not unabashedly traditionally feminine she gets a pass while Mahiru is at death's door. Can't imagine what that says about most voters.
Phew, anyway...to the next pair then.

ask game! 📄
hi!! thank you for the ask! <3 (I left this in my drafts when I thought I'd posted it oops)
WIP Ask Game
📄What’s a WIP you never finished that you would like to go back and revisit?
Okay so I have a LOT of these. Like, a scary amount. (Somewhere on discord I shared screenshots of my list of WIPs in scrivener, and it was three phone screenshots long.) Some of them are abandoned, but a lot of them are in the "I'll get back to that eventually..." stage, which I jokingly call Draft Purgatory. I have so many fics in Draft Purgatory.
However, if I had to pick one...The Three time travel fic is up there! I think I might have gotten this idea from a Tumblr post proposing it, ages ago? (If anyone knows where that is, please link it to me!) But I remember looking to see if there was a time travel fix-it where Three got to save One and Two, and I didn't find one, so I wrote it myself. I took...some liberties with the NE timeline, because I don't fully understand the order of events and chose to ignore them instead of figuring it out XD. But the basic plot was that due to handwavey wormhole shenanigans, Three from several months post-canon ends up thrown back in time to just before Murderbot shows up onstage in NE, and it saves One and Two and brings them back with it. There are hugs. It's very emotions. I think I got stuck on plot logistics...so easy to write emotions, so hard to write the parts where characters go from one place to another place lolll.
I very much want to finish it before System Collapse comes out and messes with Three's characterization. 3/3 has snuck up on me and part of me wants to try to crank it out in time for the Three festivities...which is probably not gonna happen, but if I'm sufficiently motivated I might try anyway...we'll see, lol. But yeah, the three time travel fic is very high on the list of WIPs that I really want to finish as soon as I can. It's near and dear to my heart <3

Thoughts on LCDP Korea?
I finished the last episode this evening and I'm kinda confused, there are (few) things I found better than in the original, and several which could've been managed better.
Right now I'll surely need at least one rewatch, but I'd like to know your first impressions about it!
Hi Enry! Thanks for asking! I was going to answer yesterday, then decided to wait until I actually finished the last ep. So here we are! Same here, will definitely be rewatching eventually.
In general, I really liked it. I was looking forward to this one for a while and had some pretty high hopes- it didn't disappoint and actually surpassed some expectations. Like you said, they fixed some problems from the original and made the story tighter (and a lot more logical in some areas), which I appreciated. There are also elements I thought could be better (but the pros outweigh the cons!).
I was happy that it wasn't a 1:1 remake because that'd be boring! The show was strongest when there were changes from the original, which made it more fun to follow the same beats. It's like, they got to the same place but did it slightly differently, so for me, it kind of recreated the magic of the first lcdp ;) I even ended up rewatching the last ep of S2 just because I suddenly really missed la banda XD
Spoiler impressions:
The "inspectora," Denver, Berlin, and Captain Cha were standout performances.
Woo-jin/"Raquel" was amazing; the actress gave the role the perfect amount of sympathy. She was level-headed, strong, and also weak- like I could go on forever about her. This is 100% on par with Itiziar's inspectora. And I really felt that the script respected her role more this time- she wasn't forced to be inferior to the professor at every turn, and sometimes she even has the upper hand (which I guess, was also that way in the original, but I liked the way they framed it here- it feels less biased towards the robbers)
Denver was perfect, couldn't have asked for a better Denver. He had the same himbo energy, while still being a guy from the streets- which is pretty much the original Denver lol. But as much as we all love Jaime, I personally think this Denver is hotter XD He's gorgeous, and his face not really matching his personality is what makes him so great. I loved his expanded role and the extra breathing space they gave his relationship with "Monica" (while we're at it, her motivation for being with Arturo of all people makes some more sense here)
Cha/"Angel" was a pleasant surprise. They made Angel a cool, competent guy and I actually love it LOL. His character was strong, and I prefer him to the original Angel (who was actually kinda annoying most of the time)
Berlin was everything I wanted and more LOL. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but he was a great surprise too. Like, this feels like who Berlin could have been if Pina and co. wrote everything out in advance and had time to edit. He's somehow both the same and very different from Pedro's Berlin- like, he's still a sadomasochistic lunatic but now there's a bone-deep sadness about him. He's a walking tragedy with an insanely miserable backstory and a martyr complex that's somehow even more explicit than the original Berlin's, and he says stuff like "I'm the shadow so you can shine"- what else could I ask for!? This is the Berlin who came straight out of my fics asdfasdf. That said, I can't believe I actually kind of want him not to die now asdfasdf after everything he's been through, maybe a shred of happiness would be deserved.
Speaking of Berlin, I'm pretty happy with them getting rid of the Ariadna storyline and the misogyny angle, which just proves that all of that was unnecessary to the plot in the first place. We also don't have to suffer through any more of "feminism, but as written by cishet men who are bad it it" themes.
I will say that there's no Andres in this Berlin though. Or if there was, he got beaten out of him early on lol. This guy is just Berlin all the way, and even though I do kind of miss the pretentious art lover, I don't mind this one. Though it's interesting that he's presumably never been married then. (Also too bad this Berlin isn’t as much of a slut as the original lol)
"Arturo" also captured the EXACT same Arturito energy LMAO. My nitpick is that he shouldn't have been so overly annoying when we first met him (like looking at porno on his computer!?)- he should have started as a normal guy and then revealed himself to be THAT annoying.
I liked the bickering Oslo/Helsinki dynamic lol- it gave them a little more to do. And nothing to say about Moscow because he was great too. I felt that Alison Parker was more sympathetic than Annie Kim, but Annie contributed more to the plot and it was interesting to see a different take on her. The whole subplot with "Suarez" infiltrating the hostages and getting fake-killed also made me go !! A pretty cool change, even though it relied on dumb luck lol. Also liked the change to Alberto's role- it pushed him more into the background and foreground at the same time, and connected everyone.
Lastly, loved the change to the serquel dynamic. This version makes a lot more sense in terms of motivation for both of them, but I don't think the professor's actor is really selling the chemistry enough (the inspectora is though!).
Stuff that I was more "meh" and "eh??" about:
Tokyo is a NICE and NORMAL person with MORALS. She is a problem SOLVER not a problem creator asdfasdf and I don't know how to feel omg. I liked her enough, but the original Tokyo was more fun; also, bit of a shame because the actress is amazing at playing insane evil women.
(That said, I was dying when she said "good job" to Berlin asdfasdf Finally, Berlin and Tokyo besties are canonized after all of Alex Pina's efforts to rewrite history asdfasdf)
The car chase into the lake was ?? It somehow made more sense in the original.
Rio has more backstory and layers here, and Tokrio not being together from the start is a bit of a plus- but I don't think the actor is making him as likable as he could.
Anne Kim's makeup was too perfect- she should have looked sweatier and dirtier as time went on
Nairobi didn't feel like she was "part" of the group; aside from her having a personality closer to Palermo than Nairobi lol, it just felt like she was "there" most of the time and not the one member who was uniting everyone
Maybe it depends on how he'll perform in part 2, but I think the professor is the weakest link among the main players. He has the aurora and it's not like his acting's bad, but he's too aloof as the professor, a little too uniformly "cold" with everyone he interacts with. You don't see the layers and emotions the original Sergio had. Sergio was my favorite in lcdp, but here, can't say I care very much about the professor or his relationships with everyone else.
*That said, I'm dying to know if he and Berlin are still brothers and what their shared backstory is!
SO that's my long rundown of first impressions LOL. What about you? What did you enjoy and what do you think could have been handled better?

Ask game time! :D
27. Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?
Hmmm. I'd say the most stressful characters to write are the ones I personally dislike. As in, not necessarily the ones who are bad/mean people, because they can be great characters. (Looking at you, Michael!) But the ones I'd want to remove from the narrative with a flame-thrower. So I'd say John Winchester is definitely up there, but I also have a WIP with AU!Michael in the Dean vessel and yeah... That guy always makes me want to get out a baseball bat whenever he's on screen in the show, and I'm trying to accurately portray him in the WIP, so he makes my blood pressure go up, lol.
Generally, I'd say writing people who have a calm demeanour and smile a lot but will absolutely kill your family without a second thought is stressful. Unless those characters are also cool and I like them. Hope this helps. <3
36. They say to Write What You Know. Setting aside for a moment the fact that this is terrible advice…what do you Know?
Ah. Very little. I constantly have to google things like 'How do grades work in high schools in Minnesota' or 'Supermarkets in the US' to make sure I don't embarrass myself too much. But okay, that's because I don't live in the US and can only pick up so much from media.
On a less geographically specific note, I always fear my insight into and understanding of people, their motivations and thoughts, is lacking. Especially when the people I write about have different opinions and life experiences from me.
Wait, this was about what I DO know. Okay. So:
1. Bert and Ernie are gay...
2. There's a difference between the median and the average of things, and you should always differentiate which one is used (if any of the two - there are also other measurements) and be critical about what that number actually means. Especially in statistics, when conclusions are drawn from certain figures in a study and stuff like that. Just. Be aware. (Also be aware of percentages. A 50% rise in probability sounds like a lot and possibly alarming until you look at the actual numbers and realize the probability has gone up from 1% to 1.5%.)
39. What keeps you writing when you feel like giving up?
This is a difficult question. There have been times in my life where I've barely written (if at all), but it was more that I had other things going on rather than me giving up. I mostly write for myself, and have only recently started sharing the fanfics part online. (It's been a little more than a year.)
Before that, only my closest friends and family got so much as glimpses of my writing (mostly original stuff). Writing is almost automatic for me - the ideas are there, anyway, and I spend a lot of time in my own head thinking about them. Writing them down is just a way to retain the ideas, to bring them in a form that I can enjoy again later on. (Yes, I read my own stuff. No, I don't always like it. But some of it is entertaining.)
So writing is more an outlet so that the stories don't get lost in my brain. And even when the writing is bad, the idea is still preserved, and I could always re-write it to salvage the story.
As for specific stories... Sometimes it's hard to get myself to write, but it's mostly because I get hung up on a certain scene and don't know how to get to a part that's more fun. This can keep a story in limbo for a long time. But what usually helps is to - once again - spend some time in my own head thinking of that scene, getting myself motivated for it again. And then forcing myself to put sentences into my Open Office Doc, even if they're not great. I can always fix them later. As long as there's a basis I can go back and re-do it.
So tl;dr: I don't really ever think about stopping to write. If anything, I would stop sharing my writing. Because the stories are a part of my life and I don't want to lose any of them (Shout out to my fifty billion WIPs). I'd still write if I thought I was terrible (which I do sometimes) and if I lost motivation I'd just take a break (on a specific story or just in general) and then come back later more refreshed.

If you could pick a supernatural season to enter the show during in order to try and fix things (or make them worse lol your choice) which season would you pick? What would you do? And would you survive long enough to change things?
Okay I kept this ask in my inbox for ages. The reason why is because I had to think about it. I thought my answer might be too obvious.
Now, I often daydream about ending up in the SPN world with my friends because of demonic intervention. Do not ask me why, I don't really know LMAO But it's never set in a specific season - all my blorbos are there.
So, for a specific season... I must say the last few seasons are not that great (apart from Arthur and Mick), but I couldn't be bothered to go and try to fix it. Too much work, and not even worth it
At this point, I could very much say it - I'd go into season 9. What would I do? Talk to Gadreel, of course. Help him understand, before he has to sacrifice himself, that there is another way. That Metatron is using him.
Would I survive long enough to change things? Gotta be honest here, probably not. BUT I'd try.
This ask motivated me to write 331 words

Answering a few of the quicker asks today -- I have others I want to write proper posts for at another time, so sorry for the delay!
Crowded Room by Selena Gomez reminds me of you story. Reading it really is better the second time round :) Thank you sm for your creativity, I believe you have created one of the best written novels (including the published ones) that I've read. Would you consider making a playlist for the story?
I thought Crowded Room was a book and I tried to look it up on my Kindle. Right. It’s a song! My brilliance astounds me. But what a beautiful song. The lines about dizziness and the whole room feeling slow-motion are lovely!
On the playlist, I have a collection of songs that vaguely have to do with the story, which I am going to make a separate post for. Thank you for your kind words!
Hi, LOVE your story! I read that you’re doing edits so I’m waiting for that to be done before I bind it (personal use). Any chance you will convert those “--” into actual M dashes during editing? Lol sorry for my picky question
You must send me photos of the bound copy if you take any, I love seeing them! And yes, I hope to finish the edits in the next week. So sorry about my lazy dashing (dashed lazy) habits. I’ll see if I find a spurt of motivation to fix those for you. I should note I prefer the spaced en dash over the closed-up em dash -- the former is more common in British publications (more information on the difference). There, a picky answer to your picky question xx 😂
I'd just like to ask what your irl job is? And! If you're planning to post other dhr fics after this?
I don’t talk much about IRL things under this pseud, so sorry. Things are too easy to triangulate and I am keeping isthisselfcare in a separate bubble for various reasons. On future Dramione, I have no plans at the moment (I am rather wrung out -- desiccated, really -- by the effort of the last year’s work) but never say never, etc.! Thank you very much for your interest!
Are you famous in real life? I feel like you should be if you aren't 😂
Haha, no -- I am the height of mediocrity in all things
Would you consider turning DMATMOOBIL into a Netflix show?
Whom would you choose as your cast for DMATMOOBIL?
YES, and I enjoy the implicit assumption that we could somehow sidestep the nightmarish legal kerfuffle surrounding fanfic and make this a reality
As for the cast, I have stared blankly at this question for five minutes. I haven’t really thought about it as I am awful with faces and have more vivid impressions of personalities than physical appearances! I am open to suggestions for my upcoming Netflix show
Hello you fanfic writer I would like to have a pint with, I have a lot of questions for you but the most pressing for me is: is the skull of Mary Magdalene inspired by Morte, the talking skull in the timeless classic RPG: Planescape Torment?
G&T for me, cheers! I have not heard of this game, but Googling it I found “His sole weapon seems to be his mouth, whether by taunting or biting” which sounds brilliant! Someone ought to write an obscure crossover fic. I ship it
Are u real?
…I am struck by sudden doubt
What's the most bizarre question you've received?
Under this nom de plume, perhaps the one above, haha
Hi! Excellent work, I enjoyed reading it so much! Thank you for sharing. My question is about the arithmancy scene - do you have a background in math at all? I quite enjoyed your explanations. Either way, how did you come up with your understanding of arithmancy?
I always thought arithmancy should be some kind of magical maths beyond divination and sort of… went with it (though Draco does use the predictive elements of the discipline in his explanation). I enjoy reading about pure mathematics & mathematical logic but it is not an area of specialisation. I am pleased you enjoyed it as that was a rather niche inclusion on my part!
What happened to fernsy and the trolls 😭
Why is this question so funny?! Fernsby caught the troll pornographer and did not develop a complex!!
And thank you to everyone who sent me kind words through the asks box, I blush to reblog those but am so touched and will keep them in the inbox to read on grey days
