The Lacy Tree Philo and this Monstera are duking it out for my heart. They're both in the same building too, though on completely opposite sides. This is my favorite building to work, not just because of the incredible plants (the Philo has two new leaves and they're so soft!!!), but also because it has a bunch of chalk and white boards (which, ngl, I feel a bit guilty about cleaning). Sometimes people write things that remind me that humans can be good too... and I need that in my life (though a Monstersa I couldn't fit through my front door wouldn't hurt 😅).

Just broke my own heart thinking about Rick being absent for Lori’s pregnancy with Judith since he was, understandably, emotionally checked out AND being completely absent with Michonne’s for RJ and how he missed welcoming them both into the world, plus not seeing them grow up as he said, for a man that only cares about his family he must carry so much guilt over that or feel cursed… also thought about Michonne probably being extremely anxious when RJ turned the age Andre was when he died and she had no one to talk to about it. Thinking about her having to deal with it all while being a grieving single mother of 2 leading a community also made me sad. lol I know they’re both resilient fighters but damn all of that is so heavy! I’m so happy they’re all back together now and can start some healing

it's honestly so tragic that rick was not able to see the birth of the child he wanted so badly, that he didn't even know RJ existed for almost a decade. the length of that time jump is honestly so evil - like yes, on one level it heightens the intensity of their bond, the way that they never even considered anyone else over all those years and stayed completely in love throughout that absence and distance. but god, it's just a really fucking long time. it's devastating!

it's also why I love that scene in the towl finale where rick expresses how angry he is about it, how just for a minute he lets himself say out loud that he just wants to be selfish for once and say fuck it let's go home, because he doesn't want to miss any more time than he already has. i also love the way andy played the reunion with judith and rj: the quiet grief in his face because he's mourning the time lost even while they're right in front of him, maybe even more so. like, of course he was distraught over how much he missed. this man held a shard of glass to his neck when he truly thought he could never see his family again (which i think we moved on from a bit too quickly tbh). his love for his family is his motivation for everything. keeping him away from them is the worst thing you could do to him, which is btw is why i'm not mad okafor is dead.

as for michonne. well my god anon did you have to go there with that andre/rj thing? i mean, yes you're absolutely right and you're completely brilliant but jfc that hurt. i honestly can't even think about those six years michonne spent grieving rick and raising their kids and protecting that community and getting that scar and everything else without getting upset. i genuinely hate it so much. i'm also constantly thinking about the scene where she finds evidence that rick is alive, the specific way her face contorts as she holds that phone like she's scared to even dare to hope, even though she never fully believed he was gone in the first place. we already saw how much she was struggling but that scene makes me want to set myself on fire. it's all just so fucking sad.

so yes. they better be left alone to heal in peace forever no more Situations no more near death experiences no more wars or fascist megalomaniacs with armies to overthrow. they've done enough!

saw art with a quote from a post about izzy, talking about how some people find it touching that he’s buried in the yard of the inn, but this person didn’t. it made them feel sick because he’s buried there like a dog. and just first of all yeah. at first it was touching to me bc of that sentiment that they’re keeping him near them, even in death, but the more i thought on it the more my stomach also churned.

i know djenks had the best intentions with how izzy’s character and arc were treated but jfc ya missed the mark. by a wide margin. like hello???? having the entire point of his arc in season two be discovering himself and growing into himself, hell even standing up for himself and letting himself hold on a little looser to his baggage and just put down the baggage he chose to carry on behalf of the man he loved only for him to die like an episode or two later. and the crew acts like nothing happened just. it doesnt sit right with me and it hasnt since the first time i saw it.

i know its for “plot” reasons, but there was no other way to convey any of this than maiming him like the family dog nobody actually likes??? like a grimy mutt?? without him LITERALLY DYING????????????????? AT THE VERY END OF THE SEASON??????? he and the kraken’s crew grew so close that they tried to keep him alive even tho they all knew if the kraken found out, they’d all be paying with blood. they MADE HIM. A PROSTHETIC. AND PAINTED IT. they cheered him on when he came out in drag and sang in fucking FRENCH!!!!!!! and then he dies and like 3 minutes later theres a wedding and another party. it feels tasteless. it feels demeaning.

and i 100% think djenks roped izzy and ed into the Bury Your Gays trope without thinking that through. elder queer man who is traumatized dozens of times over who just fucking came to terms with himself AND WHO JUST CONFESSED HIS LOVE TO EDWARD!!!! dies. shortly after that, timeline wise. thats the fucking trope. it’s literally right there.

AND THEN. they fucking bury him in the YARD. LIKE A DOG. in the far corner where they wont see it and be reminded of him every day. out of sight out of mind. they’ll move on and grow old together, blissfully happy, while izzy’s bones are the only thing left of the man who once was Israel Hands, First Mate to the legendary Blackbeard. he never got to have his mutual pining moment, he never got to find the true love of his life and grow old with them. he doesnt get to die fulfilled, with labored breaths, as old age takes him. he gets to sit and watch from the corner as ed and stede, his ex of sorts and the guy he replaced him with, live that happily ever after. he gets to sit in the corner like a bad dog and watch as these two get everything he ever wanted. just like the unwanted family pet.

it makes me ill. he deserved so much better. he deserves better than doggy heaven, he deserves better than being roped into the fucking Bury Your Gays trope too.

The first time I burst into tears, Rick's trembling hand over the apartment door handle.

When Michonne places that drawing of Carl in Rick's hand - I have only ever cried like that one other time in my life, over the cancer diagnosis of a real loved one. I could literally feel my heart breaking. It still hurts hours later. My wails didn't even make a sound, I was speechless with grief, breathless.

The reason why this series is so hugely successful is because it improves the mothership, TWD. I don't even call all the themes this series weaves, the characterizations, "call backs." The series makes TWD better. It threads humanity and real love into all the silence and stoic dialogue. TWD's most character conflict season was S2 and it was quarantined from the rest of the series, they never let interpersonal and internal conflict get that externalized ever again. [Think about how terribly the scripts fumbled after Glenn died, because they were so eager to get to Negan.]

I've seen some commenters focus on how Michonne hasn't yet said "I love you" in this series. But look how Rick has said it and when he's said it in the series and in TWD, he uses the phrase as an apology. Michonne doesn't need to say it because her actions show it. Rick doesn't feel the need to say when his actions show it too.

Let's fucking go! The best couple ever written for television is on the same page again. They can do anything.

Hello! Thanks for the ask. 😊 I personally don't see how it would hint at her involvement. Here's how the vision plays out:

He looked up when he said it and his eyes met Dany's, and it seemed as if he saw her standing there beyond the door. "There must be one more," he said, though whether he was speaking to her or the woman in the bed she could not say. "The dragon has three heads." He went to the window seat, picked up a harp, and ran his fingers lightly over its silvery strings. Sweet sadness filled the room as the man and wife and babe faded like the morning mist, only the music lingering behind to speed her on her way.

Her lack of response brings me back to Barristan's memory of her. "The Princess Elia was a good and gracious lady, though her health was ever delicate." So the fact that she has zero reaction makes me, personally, inclined to believe that she wasn't thrilled with what Rh@egar had to say, but her gracious nature kicked in once again, and she opted for silence. Ad if it were me, I'd be thinking, "Jfc, not this shit again."

It's possible that this vision played out exactly how Dany sees it. Both Rh@egar and Dany saw each other. Perhaps Rh@egar saw a vision of Dany watching them that day and assumed it was his future Visenya.

But back to the original point, Elia nearly died giving birth to their son, and one of the first things her husband does is ramble about his dream of who Aegon must be. That would be extremely frustrating. It's true that Aegon is now Rh@egar's heir. Thus, he will spend his years preparing himself to one day rule. That alone is a major responsibility, now Rh@egar is adding another responsibility on top of that, fresh out of the womb. Actually, while he was still in the womb. And this responsibility is clearly a dangerous one. Why should Elia be expected to approve of it?

I think it's fair to speculate that she may have been greatly concerned for her children's well-being when it came to Rh@egar's obsession with the prophecy.

It is explicitly stated that Rhaegar first thought himself to be the the prince that was promised, then Dany had a vision in which Rhaegar said his son Aegon was the prince that was promised and that a dragon had to have three heads and there must be one more. He had two children with Elia: Aegon and Rhaenys. The original dragon trio were Aegon, Rhaenys and Visenya. What's not clicking? Do these people even read? He thought he was the savior, then shifted to his son, then either 1) he wanted another sister for Aegon and went for Lyanna since Elia couldn't have more kids 2) thought the prince that was promised had to have both Stark and Targaryen ancestory (a song of ice and fire).

Can I also talk about how entitled and proud Rhaegar is to think the prophecy was about him and then definitely his son. Bro couldn’t fight to save his life but knew he was tptwp, and then went ahead and toppled a continent because of his ego. He ruined Elia and Lyanna’s lives, plunged the realm into a civil war, got his own house destroyed, KILLED HIS OWN CHILDREN and for what? To satisfy his own arrogance? For self-adulation and admiration? There is literally no greater cause here. How do you read a prophecy of all things, and think yup, this is 100% about me, I’m the chosen one, the special prince, who was talked about for centuries, the prophet, the one who’ll save lesser beings than myself from their doom, yup that’s me. Targ arrogance goes hard. Jfc.

There’s a lot of speculation about why Rhaeghar went after Lyanna. The whole “and his will be a song of ice and fire” does sort of fit as a reason Rhaegar would give himself for going after Lyanna, apart from the fact that he just found a gullible young girl at the tourney who had also done something that would bring her a lot of opprobrium (knight of the laughing tree) and saw his opportunity. Lyanna wanted a life of freedom, and Rhaegar promised it to her, and then took away everything from her, her family, her agency, and in the end her life, locked away in a tower. He did that because he could do that, and then give any reason for it because he’s the last heir to the Targaryen crown (at that time). But the other shoe did drop, there were consequences to his egregious actions, and the cocksure idiot hadn’t prepared for that.

Though as a reader, I would argue that the “ice” counterpart is not House Stark but rather the white walkers. The “ice” and “fire” analogues, for me, are the others and stannis and his red witch and the rhollor worshipers and, later, the targaryens with their dragons. I don’t think grrm (4:55) was referring to the starks as the ice because there are other northern houses as well, and would they be counted as the ice too? Anyway, it could be said that Rhaegar did either want another daughter (visenya) for the three heads of the dragon or had completely abandoned that idea by the time he met Lyanna, and decided that their son would be tptwp.

Either way, fuck rhaegar for all of eternity and then some.

Maybe this is just my opinion but I have to tell someone but didn’t want to get attacked for it lol so anyways:

Neuvillette annoys me for multiple reasons but mostly because of how so many people in the fandom treat him. Making fun of people who don’t have him, saying everyone should be playing him with no regard to the fact that some people just don’t like his play style because HOW COULD YOU NOT LIKE IT (🙄 some ppl just don’t really vibe with catalyst playstyle jfc), stuff like that.

And really the biggest ones for me is the wave of archon and Navia hate i saw after ppl got him. I love the archons and Navia and like… guys. The archons because Neuvillette had those voice lines about serving Justice and everyone was like “ah yes! My bby hates them so so do I!” (Like hun you don’t need to share every value and thought as your blorbos) and they hated on Navia because she “made him upset when she yelled at him for no reason”. FIRST OF ALL she did have a reason: grief. Navia is a young woman running a massive organization whose dad recently died and she is grieving. Neuvillette is a GROWN ASS MAN and I think he can tell when someone is just lashing out and can get over it, he doesn’t need the entire Genshin fandom backing him up.

i will say this again, though: the genshin fandom skews very young. they don't yet have the critical thinking skills to realize that they're not the center of the universe. part of this problem, they'll naturally grow out of it. but part of it, the rest of the fandom should try to steer them in the right direction. they're not our responsibility, but we can't just complain about them without at least trying to help them hahaha.

that said, give it a couple of years. at some point, most of them will end up in the right place.

Just so you know, I’ve been listening to the audiobook “Conversations with Major Dick Winters: Life Lessons from the Commander of the Band of Brothers,” and written by Dick Winters’ friend retired Colonel Cole Kingseed, and basically besides being a reflection on leadership skills, important people in Dick Winters’ life, and the follies of people attempting to profit off of people who would become important historical figures, it also has some piping hot tea about the series and the actual Lewis Nixon so hear me out.

So firstly, together with Damian Lewis’ 20th Anniversary podcast reflections last year, the book mirrors a lot of what Cole basically saw in the hiring of Damian Lewis to play Dick Winters. 

So from what Damian Lewis said about the hiring process initially in the 20th anniversary podcast, when he entered the studios when he initially came from England, there was a guy who had just left who was a Canadian actor who looked EXACTLY like Dick Winters. As in, blonde hair, built like a brick shithouse, passably could pass as American, etc. Damian said himself on the podcast that he thought that was basically it for him, because he was very much a redhead, not built like a brick shithouse, and English. 

What he politely left out of that entire story was the tea that fucking Cole Kingseed spilled which was that apparently after they had the final guys coming in to be cast to play Winters, Damian Lewis went out with Ron Livingston and partied till 4am in the morning.

What I’m loving about this is if we piece together both narratives, it’s basically Damian presuming he wasn’t going to get cast, going “fuck it” and deciding to go out with the boys anyhow, getting shitfaced drunk until 4am the next morning because he assumed he could just sleep it off and catch a flight back to England later that week, but no.

What ended up happening is Damian got back to the hotel at 4am, got a phone call three hours later at 7am, saying that Tom Hanks wanted to meet with him for 10am at the studio.

DAMIAN DRANK SIX CUPS OF COFFEE IN THE REMAINING THREE HOURS BEFORE MEETING UP WITH TOM HANKS AND GOT THE JOB.

The next tea that was spilled was about the real Lewis Nixon, and jfc I shouldn’t find this funny but I do.

So basically Dick Winters was telling Cole Kingseed that one of the reasons he didn’t commit himself to someone when he was in the war/overseas was because he noticed that men who were in love basically or had a wife and children basically fell apart quicker in battle, because they had something outside of themselves that they were worried about dying about and basically couldn’t effectively function as a soldier is supposed to.

Basically, Dick literally quoted Sherlock Holmes and was basically going on about having a “cold efficient brain” in battle.

DOESN’T THIS MOTHERFUCKER BRING UP THAT “THAT’S WHY LEWIS NIXON AND I GOT ALONG SO WELL EVEN THOUGH WE WERE TWO VASTLY DIFFERENT PEOPLE” BECAUSE BASICALLY LEW HAD A SHIT MARRIAGE AND HE SAW FIRSTHAND THAT “THERE WAS NO LOVE IN THAT HOUSE.”

NOW.

WHAT THIS PRESUMES IS THAT:

A) At some point before Lewis Nixon divorced his wife, Dick Winters was invited to his home.

B) He saw firsthand in his own polite way that Lew and his wife both fucking hated each other.

C) LEWIS NIXON HAD THE GALL TO ASK HIS TECHNICALLY COMMANDING OFFICER TO ACT AS A BUFFER FOR HIM AT AN AWKWARD DINNER HE PROBABLY HAD TO RETURN TO

D) LEWIS NIXON HATED HIS WIFE SO MUCH THAT BY INSINUATION HE DID NOT CARE IF HE LIVED OR DIED; AND 

E) COULD YOU FUCKING IMAGINE THOSE CONVERSATIONS DICK WINTERS WAS FORCED INTO.

I mean this is obviously a plot hole/something nobody thought through.

If the wish had been made much earlier (i.e., Bulma and Co. left to make the wish before Gohan had “died”) it would make sense that people were sad about him being dead—because he really would be dead. It doesn’t explain why nobody’s just like “eh, we’ll bring him back in four months” but at least in every other regard this would make a lot more sense.

They could have played around with the idea of Gohan being unable to come back thinking the manner in which he died might have been particularly horrific…or even that Gohan chose not to return, but all we have is this silly plot hole.

(I’m rolling my eyes because it makes all these characters just seem so incredibly stupid and NONE of them are that dumb.)

Something something everyone is like actively grieving and I’m not surprised more people don’t try to think of, say, Videl’s feelings, but man oh man with that plot hole staring me in the face it’s hard to take seriously.

ALSO ALSO they don’t HAVE four months to wait to revive Gohan anyway, so I’m sorta surprised nobody’s says that…or even just, “honey in five days we’re all going to join Gohan anyway soooo.”

I googled this shit because it was driving me insane, only to find a Reddit thread that pretty much told me that DBZ fans don’t possess even one grain of media literacy whatsoever. Fellas it’s called a plot hole; sometimes authors make mistakes just admit it and move on. LOL

Lowkey faked his own death. There was a bad fire in the apartment building where he lived with his family, and quite a few people didn't make it out. Once the fire died down, he got just close enough to watch everyone go through the rubble. He saw his parents find what they believed to be his body and realized he could be free. He never looked back

Doesn't talk about life before. He's scared he’ll have to go back to his parents if they find out he’s alive. 

If he thinks he sees his parents, he’ll duck into an alley or hide somewhere until they’re gone

It’s not them everytime, but he has seen them. Turns out, he’s got a little brother now… He hopes they treat him better

He tried to introduce himself to his brother once when he was alone. He panicked a bit and just ended up awkward trying to sell a pape

Despite all the flirting, he’s not all that interested in finding a partner

High sleight of hand. Doesn’t use it much but can absolutely get his hands in pockets and purses

Pickpocketed during the strike to try and help himself and others through not selling

the whole description of mine #9 is amazing!! the sounds, the lighting, the weather, the state it’s in??? for real you just have this way with presenting a scene and setting that is 😩 SO GOOD.

His palms twinged and he gingerly tugged off his gloves. On his palms, up his fingers, and even across the backs of his hands lingered silvery bands of scar tissue from that foolish attempt to escape. He couldn't even remember the reason for the argument with his parents that had prompted him to run; he only remembered the pain in his hands and his father yanking him down to cover moments before a spotlight swept over where he had been. He remembered, too, his mother cleaning and wrapping his wounds with tears shining in her eyes.

GODDAMN first memory in and I’m already emotional. that memory is so fucking poignant

If he looked, and he could not bring himself to do so, he'd find a series of scratches in the metal frame, each one labeled with initials. His height, the heights of other children who had grown up and died here.

He closed his eyes. Beneath the wind, there were echoes: conversations too distant to remember more than the hum of voices, sharp peals of laughter, and encouragement for the weary.

When all of that resolved into a sharp shout to get back to work, Adam opened his eyes. His gaze dropped automatically to the scratches and for the first time he saw that three of the height markings formed a distinct symbol, disguised amid the rest.

JFC LEGIT one of my favorite moments in HP right there. oh my god it is constant gut punches reading this part, and the mix of describing his memories and the scenery is v well done!

The woman hadn't realized Adam was listening. She probably would have regretted putting the idea in his head if she had. Gods knew she would regret what he became.

These roses were only out of control because he, in his cowardice, had refused to return. The least he could do was bleed as he made his apology.

He traced those names with his fingers. The stonemason he'd commissioned had looked at him with such pity when he made his request. The first names without last names, the blank spaces, the names he knew he hadn't recalled correctly, every single one a story cut short.

This was a flawed memorial. It was also the only one he had. His attempts to track down records, personnel lists, company documentation—all had ended in failure. No one had bothered keeping a record of the faunus who had lived and died here. Their ghosts were his and his alone.

GODDD. Like I just know he carried that the whole time. How he went searching for info. In every mission, every win or loss in the WF ughh 🤧

His sorrow and nostalgia here are so heart wrenching. Just how and what he lost is really put into detail and it fucking HURTS. and he still wants to do good, and he now fully believes he CAN now 😭😭

My guy I fuckin' salute you for making it all the way through to the end and giving me these top-tier reactions the whole time. The fact that the vibes in the epilogue came through crystal-clear to you puts a huge smile on my face.

It was very satisfying for me to have one chapter at the end of Hollow People to actually give Adam a backstory and - even if it's belated - kind of bring things full circle for him. His history's alluded to throughout the story, you get a pretty good idea of it from the way he acts and thinks, but he's actually kind of a black box...right up until the epilogue. And that's when you can look back and see his perspective so much more clearly (at least when he's not sleep deprived and trying to murder his ex).

It's an ending that I hope leaves you feeling as bittersweet as hopeful.

I fell asleep around like 9 pm and then woke up at 1 only to realize the album was out and I had to immediately listen. I have many thoughts, but I only compiled my thoughts on the ones that weren’t yet released.

• Are You There? - I think it’s a bop, but Jack’s friends rlly got Alex through that separation, so it’s kind of weird that he’s constantly bringing them up in a negative way. Like the drugs part is so obviously about them?

• Calm Down - Vocals!!! It SEEMS like it’s trying to be political in some type of way, but it’s vague. The “micro plastic submarine” was not something I expected, though.

• English Blood // American Heartache - Separation song, FULLY. I wish “fuck ‘til the pain don’t hurt” didn’t affect me like it did, bro. Also, “There's no changing who I was and you know exactly where I've been” yeah we knOW y’all are annoying.

• The Sound of Letting Go - Separation song x2 with “My best friend says I need to find something new” 👀 UM JALEX??? LISTEN TO JACK!!!! I like these songs better when I don’t think about what’s inspired them.

• New Religion - Horny bop, of course. I get the concept, but “your sweat is my holy water” is kinda gross lmfao. Anyway, I will be imagining this is about Jalex for obvious reasons. 😌 I like Teddy’s voice.

• The Way You Miss Me - This is literally Alex describing how toxic his and Lisa’s relationship is…..this is so annoying. I mean, I do like that he’s somewhat acknowledging it, but like??? Also callback to how the story ends. Regardless, I like how this song sounds. He just irritates me with how he KNOWS they’re ridiculous and he just doesn’t care???

• I’d Be Fine (If I Never Saw You Again) - I’m sure this is just another separation song. I do not like imagining lisex’s sex life and he just keeps making me do it. Also, if he’d be fine if he never saw her again, wtf is he doing with her again Jfc.

• Kill Ur Vibe - Now this is super duper separation song. Reminds me of when Alex was sad boy-ing and Lisa was just so happy on her farm with her creatures and going out with her rich friends for $400 wine. The last chorus made me 🙄

• The Other Side - omg not Alex mentioning Lisa’s secret boyfriend. Also, another callback to how the story ends. “I swear I died a thousand times” is a lyric I should love but 🙄 not when I know the context here. Like stfu.

• Lost Along the Way - Love the space imagery bc that’s so Alex’s brand. Also had me actually tapping my foot along, so I guess it’s a bop. The melody almost reminds me of basement noise.
