#but to conduct a genocide

I’m sorry but you can’t cry “human rights violation!!!!” when you are actively carrying out a campaign of genocide.
#sorry but it doesn’t work like that!#you can’t decry humans rights violations of a group that doesn’t even represent a majority of innocent people (by the way)…#…if you are actively carrying out a genocide under the thinly veiled guise of going after that group#Genocide which is y’know one of the greatest violations of human rights since it seeks to completely eradicate one group of people.#like there are innocent people being caught in the crosshairs on both sides#not everyone living in Israel or who is Jewish supports the Israel government’s bombings of Gaza#not every Palestinian supports Hamas or condones their brutal attacks on innocent civilians#but to try and conflate the actions of a militant group to represent the thinking of all of the citizens and be an excuse to destroy them…#…isn’t right and deserves to be held accountable#also stop acting like there is not a massive power imbalance present#Israel has the Iron Dome and their own military forces and funding from the U.S.#Hamas has missels and stock piled resources from funding from Iran#Israel controls the food water fuel and medicine access to those that have been forced to live in Gaza#they are not in any way shape or form on equal footing which doesn’t make this a ‘war’#I can’t wrap my head around the fact that one of the groups persecuted in one of the most horrifying genocides is currently conducting…#…a genocide on another group of people#the rhetoric of gov’t officials from Israel dehumanizing innocent civilians points to the fact that this isn’t about retribution#but to conduct a genocide#if you don’t think that the current actions of the Israeli government aren’t wrong and are supporting it you can unfollow and block me!#like it’s not black and white but the actions that are currently happening are not acceptable

love hate relationship. with sociology. this quarter. on one hadn sociology. the subject. very cool very interesting. enjoying. on the other hand. my teacher is on some bullshit sometimes
#while she is generally well intentioned. with placing emphasis on corporate influence to our consumption of products. she then goes and puts#the pressure on individual people to reduce carbon footprints. which you can and should do but i feel like she does not address the scale#at which these actions are meaningless in the face of larger corporations. while we should all aspire to be better. about our consumption#it is not the individuals fault. unless you are a billionare. in my opinionnnnnn.#also shes lowkey fatphobic. ive been trying to figure out if this is a result of phd in sociology. or consuming fatphobic documentaries. or#personal bias. regardless it is weird and off putting and it makes me uncomfortable.......... and she also . not fully blames but does blam#people for being fat. which like. please youre literally a sociologist teaching about social problems. i feel like you have other prioritie#also the afformentioned. bothsidsing it of israel's genocide. most likely a result . of how proud she is that she does not consume american#news coverage. ONLY BRITISH. i feel as though this may be worse. that she only gets news from the bbc. famously. supporters of israel.#she has not explicitly talked about palestine in class but she did mention it basically exactly the same way as that question did. earlier#this quarter. which is such a bullshit cop out for talking about genocide.#sorry for conducting a profile of beliefs of my sociology teacher shes just been on my mind. need to explode her or something

People who want 'nuanced takes' in the genocide of Palestinians by the Israel occupation forces but then only end up choosing the cowardly stance of 'being neutral', which is the emptiest opinion you can conjure.
"Killing innocent civilians is wrong on both sides" yea no shit? Which side has done more damage, for their enemies AND their own people? Which side is backed by the world's most influential military forces and actually has power in stopping the atrocities happening on both sides? Which side has silenced and taken out people like journalists and people who simply show their support of Palestinians having the right to live? Which side has bombs and firearms strong enough to destroy massive lands, along with protected spaces like hospitals, schools and churches where people take refuge? Which side has been spreading false info multiple times, only to be refuted later on, even by their own side? Which side has been committing war crimes beyond humanity, dating back 75 years, even calling themselves colonizers at one point when it was acceptable?
What you think about Hamas or Israel forces has no bearing if the final verdict is "Well, they're both wrong so I can't differentiate". If all that 'critical thinking' leads you to nothing then there is no point except bringing focus away from things that should matter, and it be better you shut up. Because I hope damn well you are putting more of your energy into things that actually have substance
Educating myself through these tho there are many more resources that I should look up later on

if you live in the USA and are feeling especially overwhelmed rn, remember we are living through both a modern day civil rights movement (like the 1960s) and a genocide that our govt is funding (like the Holocaust). keep fighting. if you need a break, rest up. take care of yourself. i believe that we will win.

hey seriously all of my thoughts and all of my heart to any palestinian follower I might have, any israeli who lost someone and/or tried to oppose this murderous regime and whose voice is being silenced right now, any arabic and/or muslim follower who feels like their lives aren't worth even half a shard of empathy from the western world at large, and any jewish follower who may feel like their faith is being instrumentalized in the worst possible way
I'm genuinely so sick, so disgusted, so appalled, and I don't know what to do but donate and that feels like nothing, and I'm not even close emotionally to any of that so I can't even fucking imagine what you must be going through.
I'm so, so, so sorry. This is so wrong. This is so unfair. There are no words. Genuinely. This is humanity at its very worst.

it broke today that biden airdropped aid to gaza. other than the fact that this is an obvious pr move ahead of his re-election campaign, i think it's important to stress how ineffective this method is compared to just allowing humanitarian aid to come through. airdrops carry far less aid than truck convoys, for one, and require an airdrop zone with a lot of idealistic conditions that don't often coincide. this is a major reason why you hear a lot of airdrops being conducted at beaches--and why a lot of them have been blown to the sea. and what's even more dangerous about that is that a lot of these palestinians are malnourished, starving, in a delirious state of mind. many of them are so utterly hungry that they'd be willing to swim through just to get their hands on a sodden meal. but apparently this is the best thing the us, which literally funds israel's ongoing genocide, can do for palestinians at the moment.

The Lemkin Institute for Genocide has issued a genocide alert for the West Bank
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Lemkin Institute is horrified by the dire situation transpiring in the West Bank. During what has already been a devastating six months of conflict in Gaza, the Israeli military and far-right settlers have used the cover of war to conduct continuous attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank, often leading to death and forced displacement. These attacks have been underreported in the mainstream Western press, which has also failed to tie Israel Defense Force (IDF) and settler violence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem to the genocide being committed in Gaza. These processes are all part of an overwhelming push on the part of Israeli authorities to oust Palestinians from their remaining ancestral lands. In other words, Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians across Palestine.

I think it's good to highlight that the amount of money the US is spending to conduct a genocide in Palestine could instead easily be used to house every homeless person in america or socialize healthcare or cancel student debt, because this helps demonstrate to people how little the US government gives a shit about you, but even if the US cancelled its billions of dollars in aid to Israel right now and diverted all that money into creating a massive welfare state for every american, it would still be a horrifically evil imperial country. the mountain of wealth it rests on top of was produced by the process of settler colonialism and genocide and slavery - the US is a big reason why "the global south" exists as a geopolitical category at all - and hoarding these resources domestically would not suddenly make it a just state. I think it's important when making these arguments that our ultimate conclusion isn't that the US should just become a western european welfare state while leaving the current system of imperial inequality enact. that is not the road that will lead to a decolonized Palestine because decolonialism is not merely the absence of imperial aid, it is the destruction of the system that allows a country to extract, hoard, and then spend billions of dollars on missiles and tanks and guns to conduct genocide in the first place

finished reading thru The Hundred Years' War On Palestine: A History of Settler Colonial Conquest and Resistance by Rashid Khalidi and I cannot recommend it enough. A lot of people and, very likely, the average person not completely blinded by Islamophobia and/or USamerican/European/British exceptionalism are probably at least moderately sympathetic to the Palestinian cause but I don't know how many of us actually understand the degrees by which Israel is based in settler colonial ideology, how it has continually attempted to subjugate and ultimately eradicate the Palestinian people, and the degree by which the US and Britain (but mostly the US ever since the Six Day War in 1967) have been complicit in this continual genocide.
This book is an amazing comprehensive guide on understanding the conflict and I genuinely think you should give it a read (or listen) if you want to learn more. It is one thing to feel sympathy and to declare support for a cause, but I think it is important to take a step further and educate yourself more on it. A ploy I have seen frequently by zionists is to tell people to "educate themselves" before commenting on this genocide, hoping to instill doubt and encourage silence. Well, here is your chance to educate yourself! I'm obviously biased in favor of this one as it is the first major text on the Palestinian genocide that I have read, but I fully believe in its quality.
You can find this book online in PDF format or, if you prefer, you can purchase a physical copy from many of the large retail bookstores; Barnes & Noble in the US sells it, and so does Waterstones in the UK. There is also an official audiobook that you can either purchase through many of the major audiobook distributors (though I recommend avoiding Amazon if it can be helped), but you can also obtain it via other means if necessary. It's actually currently up on YouTube in its entirety, though I won't link it here in case it gets taken down. (It's really easy to search for, just type in the books title + 'audiobook' into your preferred search engine or on YouTube itself and you'll find it. It's about 10 hours long which is a reasonable length for an audiobook). I'll include a link in this post to an overview/lecture/dialogue with the author Rashid Khalidi on the contents of the book conducted at Brown University in 2020.
I do ask you read this book. I think a lot of people already are. I checked a couple of online libraries that have a limited number of audiobook copies that had all been checked out and that to me implies that people do want to educate themselves. There's a sizeable stack of these books at the local bookstore I ocassionally shop at, front and center on the table in the history and world affairs section. It's not hard to find. I hope you all have a good day or evening and I know that if we all take the time to educate ourselves further and approach this genocide with a deeper understanding, we may be able to do something about it. Emotional pleas are not enough, they must be informed ones as well.
