Melissa McBride— I love you. AMC never deserved you and you will always be the queen Carol. A woman whom was put through hell and back and still hasn't gotten the justice/happiness she deserves.

Hi
Why do you dislike so much the idea of Carol going to ftwd? Genuinely asking. Thanks 🙏
Hi back :)
The story is nonsensical and the characters are bland. Adding Carol to that is like trying to polish a turd. The turd stays a turd and the rag you used to try to make it nice and shiny ends up dirty.

This One Is For Melissa Mcbride (And Her Fans ❤️)

~
Let me get straight to it.
There should’ve been an official announcement of Melissa McBride’s return. After a lackluster final season, the absolute nightmare that last year must’ve been for her – she deserved nothing but joy, celebration, and endless praise for her in the media. Instead, her announcement was whittled down to a cheap click bait storm perpetuated by someone who had no right to speak for her (I don’t care how well-intentioned it may or may not have been).
We all have some deep feelings about the Twitter storm + clickbait articles that followed yesterday. If you read the tweet in question and were hurt, angry, sad, confused, conflicted, or felt a mixture of everything – ALL YOUR FEELINGS ARE VALID.
Let me preface this by saying I wasn't around for all that happened last year. But I have spoken to a lot of fans – many of them have emotional scars, asked reasonable questions, and were respectful towards people involved in the spinoff. From what I've seen, a handful of people crossed the line by harassing NR and threatening his family – that was vile and disgusting, and they should be called out for it. And they should’ve taken accountability for their actions. Nobody deserves that treatment.
HOWEVER, bunching the entire fandom together with those few that didn’t control their vitriol and calling everyone “toxic” is infuriating and just plain sad. Especially when we remember that this relates to a TV show that THRIVES on showing us the gray areas of moral behaviour.
These are the fans that put their wallets down to watch TWD. The people who passionately talk about their favourites, make fan art, write beautiful letters to the actors, and watch the shows to give them strength and hope in their lives. People who line up at cons, cosplay characters, buy expensive tickets and photo ops just to spend a few minutes with their favourite actors.
But let’s talk specifically about Melissa McBride’s fans.
My question is to anyone who believes all of Melissa’s fans are festering in toxicity – do you know what the fans she has ACTUALLY nurtured look like?
Let me introduce you.
The majority of the fans that adore Carol are survivours like her. The type of abuse they face may have different names – but they resonated with Carol deeply because she showed them they were stronger than their trauma. Stronger than the people who caused those traumas. She taught them how to fight back. To rise up.
These are some of the strongest, most vulnerable, perceptive, passionate, and empathetic people in the fandom. They’ve watched this show and looked up to Carol to get them through whatever difficult times they faced. Some are still deciding whether or not to subscribe to watch any future spinoffs.
Here’s another question to anyone who believes the narrative from last year (not by Melissa or her reps) that was spread again yesterday – Do you *KNOW* Melissa McBride?
Melissa McBride is the woman who has spent over a decade breathing life into Carol Peletier. She has shown us Carol’s strength, her raw vulnerability, and her tenacious spirit. Qualities that come from within Melissa that she harnessed to bring Carol to our screens. She is a class act. Everyone who has ever worked with her has called her wonderful and professional. She is charming, sweet, remarkably intelligent, and an extremely eloquent speaker.
And she can speak her truth for herself – when she wants to or if she wants to.
She has written to her fans, and treated her fans with love and respect. She’s spent hours at cons speaking to them. With her performance, she has helped DV survivours leave difficult situations. She has inspired people to move through their traumas and get out of toxic situations. She even skipped the red carpet at the finale event to skip the limelight and go spend time with her fans.
And through all this, Melissa has shown nothing but love, gratitude, and respect for her fans. She has been a beacon of light in the lives of her fans. And most importantly, she has taught us how to stand up for ourselves.
Did they honestly think that when the time came to stand up for her – we would sit still? They better think again.
Melissa McBride doesn't just deserve better...

She deserves the goddamn world.

The ONE thing I can thank the walking dead for is the fact that they never killed off Carol.
Like for a hot second towards the end I was terrified that they would
But that woman meant so much to me and so many others. It was refreshing to see a tragic character survive the show.

I’m going to write a fic where Carol from The Walking Dead and Billy from Stranger Things both have to stare down their demons and accept that they both were horrible people who have done horrible things but to save themselves they have to accept it and make amends
Random Thoughts
Will both or just one make it?
Whose more likely to do it?
Whose fan base would be more willing to push them to search inside themselves?
My theory is the Billy Stan’s would be willing to make Billy see his faults faster than any Carol fan 😂

The more I think about it, I realize that if I had gotten into the Walking Dead at the age I am now I would be mostly fine with Daryl spinning off by himself (excluding bts stuff). I have really learned to love slow tragedies and unhappy endings in fiction. The slow drift apart that happened between Daryl and Carol from season four onwards is really compelling because it's just a long series of moments where there was something else they needed to prioritize above each other (mostly things necessary for group survival). By the time they have a second to breathe there's too much trauma between them and Carol is too wrapped up in the Kingdom for anything to be any different. A story that ends with these two people never being able to overcome all those things in this very cruel world is a compelling story.
BUT the Walking Dead is the show I loved when I was thirteen and Carol is the character I loved when I was thirteen so I DESPERATELY need for her to have an unambiguously happy ending

I knew AMC was going to try to ride the waves of last year’s social media storm to address Melissa’s return—yes, return—but I was really hoping they wouldn’t be this gross about it. It's more confirmation they want to cast a wider net for RTD S1 and apparently for Dead City as well. What puzzles me is why they think gaslighting is going to accomplish anything for them long-term.
Caryl fans will be the core audience for Caryl’s eventual show. In theory they should be kept happy, but instead they're getting jerked around, alienated, and lumped together under the toxic umbrella even though it was only a small fraction of fans who had crossed the line. Many others were expressing reasonable concerns about the loss of a highly-anticipated show in a reasonable tone.
Carylers are often considered the most “passionate” fans in the entire TWD community, but they are also the most perceptive. They can read between the lines without Melissa having to utter one single syllable on the matter, and maybe if some of the men in this franchise learned the power of silence, they could earn half the respect Melissa has not only from fans, but coworkers and the industry as a whole.
That’s the biggest issue I can’t wrap my head around here, more so than the mistreatment of fans. This incredibly talented, most lauded, most beloved actress is put through hell—pushed out of her own show, slandered by coworkers who had no business speaking on her behalf or spreading a narrative that Melissa's team did not legally agree to—and when she finally comes out on the other side of it, a male actor needing validation for his own—wait for it—toxic behavior is handed the microphone again? That’s how AMC chooses to get the word out?
I guess we’ll see how many more viewers they manage to wrangle for S1 when it airs, but speaking for myself, I cannot and will not support S1 of RTD. I don't support Dead City, I don't support JDM, or the misogyny that seems to plague TWDU these days. It’s Caryl's earned romantic arc or bust for me.
Melissa looked happy as a clam in all of her photos. You’d think she’d be allowed to have her time to shine and that her fans could rejoice without the rug being pulled out from under them every few days. She is the only person who deserves praise for coming back—yes, coming back. The best thing anyone else did was fix what they broke.
Like I mentioned before, the promotion ahead is going to feel like whiplash, and I’m really not looking forward to it. I was happy to see that most of yesterday's buzz from fans—unlike that tweet and subsequent headlines—was centered on Melissa, specifically the thrill of having her back—yes, back—so there is that.

Just in case some people out there on the interwebs aren’t fully grasping the use of the word “untenable” in AMC’s statements, apparently someone posted this enlightening link on DearTV. (I’m not on there, please let me know if there’s anyone I should credit)

so...about TTD and Khary and Josh's words...we can confirm that..
1) everyone and their dog loves Melissa McBride
2) she's the most shining star of TWDU and everyone but AMC and their jealous man-child lead recognizes this as a solid fact
3) if Melissa comes back to tell more Carol stories it will be on her terms BUT if she really decided to go live her glamorous hippie life away from the cameras after all the BS she endured all these years? she has castmates, friends and fans supporting her ❤
there's nothing really new under the sun, is it?
oh, and if I may add just one point for our sakes:
4) her character is half of the most popular and powerful ship of TWDU and even if they do not go canon no one can erase or retcon their story and importance. I'll keep shipping them as long as I want, thank you very much ✌🏾

I just had this thought -- with practically no basis mind you -- of Carol running an orphanage, school, or something involving children to explain why she can’t go to Europe with Daryl. It made me want to burst into tears, though not in a good way because it feels so much like a wash, rinse, repeat of what we’ve already seen her do so many times. She’s always been a nurturer, always taking care of others which, despite brief intervals of joy, always comes with a tremendous amount of pain. Now of course there’s something honorable about her trying again after she feels like she’s failed, sure, but I think it is far more satisfying and far more deserving for her character to finally escape that all together. It’s like Lydia said, Carol can be “something else.” Give her recognition for everything she’s done, but after that, let her be free of the responsibilities that have always sat heavily on her shoulders.
According to Angela Kang, it’s been laid in that Carol is just like Daryl in the sense that she wants to explore what’s out there, and she’s right. The crumbs are there. The back of Daryl’s bike is her happy place. Going to New Mexico with him “sounds good” to her. Allowing her that freedom with Daryl is what ultimately allows her to have emotional freedom from all her trauma and insecurities. It allows her to finally be herself, to embrace her independence without being alone. And speaking of alone...
Daryl too seems doomed to keep playing the same role he’s always played, the one-man search and rescue. I’d argue their perceived obligations to make everybody else happy before themselves is the reason the two of them, confirmed soulmates by Angela Kang, keep getting separated and it’s devastating to think it’s going to keep them separated indefinitely. That the relationship built on hope is simply going to end in narrative purgatory.  Either that, or Carol will give some forced explanation under the guise of growth  like “she’s run away too many times and needs to stay in one place now,” which contradicts the entire purpose of Carol learning to stay. That is, to stay *with* the person who’s always lamented her leaving him.
Like I said, I could be talking out of my ass here. Angela has a talent for cleaning up big messes and can no doubt write something that works, but if the worst really does come to fruition then I have to ask, what the hell have we been rooting for this whole time?
