Channa Mereya Ends

Channa Mereya is a prime example of why good shows don’t last. And tbh, I’m not sad at it getting over in six months. What hurts is the lack of professionalism shown to an incredibly dedicated and passionate team. When people are invested and have a good solid material in their hands, the least a channel could do is give the show time to finish what has started. And this is the problem with ITV in general - there’s just no respect to the story that was told nor to creatives involved.

The sheer number of good shows not getting time to wrap up their stories or a 48 hour warning is not fair. It’s proof that script, characters and story don’t matter to channel executives. 

And this only applies to shows that are like Channa Mereya. Other stuff like Imlie, Naagin and almost everything on Dangal TV - please end.

So I decided to start watching Channa Mereya because 

1) IPK template with pretty people and 

2) I am a fan of Karan Wahi since his Remixxx days (Tia/Ranveer shipper 4 LYF!!!)

anyway i have THOUGHTS

idk if its just because I’m kind of going through it in real life and need some escapism tv but yes, i don’t hate it??? I mean its full of cliches and family drama and the leads slip and fall around each other a ridiculous number of times, BUT they do have pretty good chemistry and I kind of really appreciate the fact that they aren’t stretching the drama too much? 

I mean they could have milked that whole scheming lying pregnant ex vs innocent truthful forced wife angle for easily another 50 episodes but they resolved it logically and smoothly which was super refreshing!

And, I like that this serial at least understands that you can have an enemy to lovers trope + tortured past male lead + angsty romance WITHOUT the male lead outright abusing the female lead. I really appreciated that they were able to show us Aditya’s trauma reactions, his JUSTIFIED anger towards Ginny, his antagonism towards her, without excessive bruising and/or manhandling, unnecessary verbal abuse, sexual threats, etc. Like you can be angry against some one for justified and unjustified reasons, hate them, mistrust them, be triggered and all of that and still be aware of and abide by basic human decency rules and not break any harassment laws.

And another thing I like is that Ginny is not some morally perfect, never do wrong female lead, I mean the whole bridal swap thing is essentially HER fault. She’s completely to blame for some of her impulsive and headstrong decisions and her flaws and mistakes, and her culpability in what happened, are called out as such without taking away from her strengths and the fact that she too is a victim of circumstances. 

But one thing is really confusing me and mayyybe I’m overthinking this one but why is the show called Channa Mereya? 

Channa Mereya is famously the song about the deep pain of unrequited love and the version of the song they play on the show also has lyrics that emphasize that unrequited or unfulfilled aspect of love. The romance angle has JUST started so I am not sure where it’s going or who is going to fall in love first but I’m just wondering if the name of the show is a hint for us about what’s planned - is one of them going to fall in love way before the other? And it won’t be returned and the pain and doom and gloom etc? Otherwise why call it Channa Mereya then?

Or, maybe i’m overthinking this that is ALWAYS a possibility lol.

#channa mereya #ipk for example was all about the fact that they both clearly loved each other but refused to name it for REASONS and circumstances #and then the lyrics for rabba ve made perfect sense in the context of the show #and also for the title track #so im waiting for the channa mereya lyrics also to make sense #i know this isn't ipk but its IPK adjacent #like i would never watch this show if it didn't have that ipk vibe #what can i say advertising works on me

i'm really really loving ginni as a character; i don't think i've ever seen a FL decisively proclaim her haq on her family and its day to day subsistence, ngaf about all that "shaadi ke baad main iss ghar ki nahi rahi" bs. she was always the head of that family after her dad, and the fact she lives elsewhere now makes no difference.

thank god for this show being on star bharat and ignored by the masses, coz they're really able to get away with much that wouldn't fly on a mainstream channel. ab tak toh itna abla bana dete and would have made the ML step in to save her family and make her indebted to him emotionally. fuck that noise.

Given my record of watching IPK 3 years after its end, IB 5 years after its end and MJHT 7 years after its end - it’s a miracle I’m watching this WHEN it’s airing.

With @tellywoodtrash - the OG queen of LB - ki aashirwaad, I begin the journey of watching CM.
