When Baekhyun first met Jongdae, he was a brat. Not in the way that Baekhyun was a brat, but instead in the way that made Baekhyun’s blood boil. He was so unlike Baekhyun, there was nothing he could truly see in Jongdae’s eyes as friend-worthy. So there Jongdae was, in pristine pressed clothing that took Baekhyun’s mother 20 minutes to wrestle him into, with a big grin on his face. The worst thing was that it was a kind smile, not one with hidden malice, not a cheeky or cocky one. But a smile any other child would give to a potential friend. But Baekhyun wasn’t looking for a potential friend in Jongdae. After all, why would he want to befriend the one he would be wedded to?

not to get emotional about a funny haha post but learning about the concept of skinship as a teenager really did open up my eyes to the fact that although the society I live in is extremely averse to physical affection, that shit really is just made the fuck up and what i think of as normal is not universal and you can just do whatever the fuck you want. profoundly freeing and important to me as a person who has an extremely high need for physical touch

My take: Minseok is timid, and so Beak get ahead of him to Dae. Years on and life has happened. Minseok finally has his moment and Jongdae is as clear headed as ever to receive Minseok.

My reaction: Oh, Minseok hyung. Oh Jongdae hyung. The first hanahaki fix, I have been so engrossed in. Definitely in my top 5.

have you done any fic fests? and which stories where in there. or if there's none what's your favourite fest that's ever taken place in neo ficville

I tried to do the very first mh fest, wrote 60k of a fic which to this day I still haven't published, realized it would have to be at least 200k, and gave up.

I've done a lot of fic fests in the exo fandom though. I did baeconandeggs for chanbaek twice, three times? Four? Many times idk. And then I've written for fests/exchanges for chenhun, xiuhun, chinguline (chenbaek), a christmas event for which i wrote baeksoo, a k*islay event like six thousand years ago for which i wrote a very nice fairytale style fic that asshole k*is definitely did not deserve. And I also wrote wonhui as a pinch hitter for a seventeen exchange.

I used to love doing events but my last chanbaek event literally drained me, and I left the fandom after it because I couldn't do it anymore. I haven't done anything like that ever since, except that time I tried for markhyuck and failed.

"It's not always just talent" - A Baekchen short fic

"Wow, such a wonderful voice!"

"You're so talented!"

"As expected from genius Byun Baekhyun, you're among the top for this week's trainee evaluation!"

"Thanks, everyone," Baekhyun shrugs and smiles bashfully.

Although many call him a genius, it's not always just talent.

It's also lots and lots of hard work. There are times when he struggles too. Like locking himself in the practice room until late at night, crying in desperation when he doesn't manage to nail the difficult part in the song. "Why can't I do it? Why is it so hard?"

His throat is parched but he's determined to not stop until he successfully sings the part. But before he starts again, there's a knock on the door.

Baekhyun grunts. Who is it that is disturbing his practice? Angrily he opens the door.

He's surprised to see the person beyond the door. It's Jongdae, the other trainee who auditioned the same day as him. He's one of the best trainees too and one of his biggest competitors.

Deep inside, Baekhyun makes it his goal to be able to sing as well, if not, better than Jongdae.

Seeing his rival at his lowest point makes him snap. "What do you want?" He expects Jongdae to mock him, or laugh at him.

But Jongdae just smiles and offers a water bottle. "I was next door and I've been hearing you sing for hours now. Hope you keep yourself hydrated."

Baekhyun raises his eyebrows. Jongdae laughs. "I don't put anything in there, don't worry." He opens the bottle and takes a sip before passing it to Baekhyun.

Convinced, Baekhyun drinks. It feels like an oasis in the desert.

"Are you done? It's late, we should go home."

"But I have been struggling to nail that part -"

Jongdae stops him. "Go home, rest. Don't overexert your voice. Try again in the morning. Trust me. You can do it."

And Jongdae's right. The next day Baekhyun did it.

(Years later)

A water bottle is put into his hand. Baekhyun looks up. It's Jongdae. "Hope you keep yourself hydrated," he grins.

Baekhyun smiles back, taking the bottle and drinks. Then he puts the bottle down and faces the crowd, readying himself for the next song.

It has been years since they trained n debuted together. With Jongdae by his side, Baekhyun knows he can do anything.
