TOURNAMENT MASTERPOST
synopses and propaganda under the cut
World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls
Synopsis
The Doctor decides to test how good Missy has become by sending her on a trial run with Bill and Nardole. However, when things go wrong, the Doctor takes over. With Bill trapped in a different time zone, can the Doctor make it to her before it is too late, and who are all those people getting cured?
Propaganda no propaganda submitted
City of Death
Synopsis
While taking in the sights of Paris in 1979, the Fourth Doctor and Romana sense that someone is tampering with time. Who is the mysterious Count Scarlioni? Why does he seem to have counterparts scattered through time? And just how many copies of the Mona Lisa did Leonardo da Vinci paint?
Propaganda
even if your not a classic who fan, you have seen moments from this, “wonderful butler, he’s so violent”, “youre a beautiful woman, probably”, “if you wanted an omelette I’d expect to find a pile of broken crockery, a cooker in flames, and an unconscious chef”. The location shooting, iconic, the music, iconic, the plot, so iconic I was once watching something (non doctor who) that referenced it as a fake historical event. Dare I say duggan is the greatest side character of all time. Romana’s outfit, the design of scaroth, the implication time lords can fly. it’s not my favourite overall, but its damn near close, it deserves AT LEAST the semi finals, AT LEAST. If you’ve not seen it or any classic who, go watch it, its so good, one of the best of the era. Also, how could I forget, the most watched episode on broadcast out of all of doctor who, including new who. (yes it was because itv was off the air due to strikes, but im glad its this episode that holds the record) (anonymous)

actually utopia losing that poll was good actually because it gave me an excuse to rewatch it and have a Category 10 Brain Event
#it's been a few years since ive watched it#but ive certainly watched it over a dozen times. i have quite a few scenes i can quote line for line#but ALSO i dont think ive watched it since i became. as obsessed with the master as i am#and GOD the little details DELIGHTED me!!!#theres a with a little ainley master chuckle#and a line from i presume the daemons of the delgado!master going 'destroy him! and you will give your power to me'#its just such a stunning homage to classic who masters before becoming a gateway into the new who style of the character#jacobi definitely plays the master with more classic mannerisms which i ADORE#but it's so lovely to see the mannerisms he establishes for his master in the few minutes of screentime that he has#that he then carries forward into his audio content#and it's fun for me to see the facial expressions associated with those verbal tics!!!#GOD and like. as much as simm!master is my least favourite master#he really did set the groundwork for a different approach to the character which i find DELIGHTFUL#like. simm set the groundwork for what gomez and dhawan executed so brilliantly#and i do think he was just largely hindered by rtd simply not knowing how to write the master well. and then that characterization stuck#when he appeared in waet/tdf#but JACOBI#god. what a legend. the way he plays yana makes me insane also#i also found out he was gay like last week which is INSANE and so lovely. how did i not know that#also god murray gold was off his SHITS in utopia fr#i. dear lord i know this episode too well. it's in the same place in my brain as boom town#but it's combined with my later developed obsession with jacobi!master. to devestating effect#also like. say what you will about the drums plotline (dumb as hell) but by god the four beats is something that is so good to tap#while you are being normal about an episode of doctor who

white yellow red black?
ohhh this is something messy that is currently a mashup of an idea from a few months ago and a to1u fill that didn't get finished:
it's a different-team au: what if instead of Jumbo, after the Verandas-Willems-Crelan fiasco, wout went to UAE? (or in the original idea, he transferred there after the 2019 crash because ✨fic reasons✨ i'm sure he had a pretty long contract with them in reality)
!! TW for weight discussion in the snippet -- it's at the very bottom of the post
because the doc is currently bolted together from the notes of the original idea and the bits of to1u that got written, it needs a lot of work but the vibes are there -- they get along really well! young and talented and successful, like a less chaotic jasper/tadej (jasper actually goes to jumbo in 2019 instead lmao)
until tadej wants to start riding the classics properly. wout's been able to lead the team each spring without having to babysit tadej and doesn't feel like his position within the team is being respected. tadej is invading his cobble time, wanting to lead and win and he doesn't know quite how to deal with this shift in their relationship.
anyway the to1u was wout/jonas 'jealousy' and it was going to be a Winner's Room at the 2022 tdf, where the yellow jersey winner gets to pick anyone on the final podium and wout's eligible as the super-combative prize. it was going to be sex that was really About Tadej from wout's point of view; wout's down horribly bad but won't admit it not even to himself -- and jonas has picked up on that over the course of the tour, but still gets what he wants out of the evening.
snippet time!
“How much do you weigh?” Wout asks, voice calm and even. It's not an unusual question.
“Now? Uh, sixty-seven kilo?” Tadej shrugs, then pats his stomach, “Got lazy in the off-season, hah! I’ll lose it – promised the team doctor and everything,”
Wout turns onto his side, doesn't laugh, head resting on a folded arm. Fine dark hair comes in little sweeps from his elbow to his wrist.
“I finished the Tour at seventy-three. Right now, with ‘cross and everything, more like eighty.”

According to the latest Doctor Who Magazine poll on the greatest Doctor Who episodes of all time, Heaven Sent came in at #1.
As it should.
Oddly, though, #2 - though still a Capaldi story, which is cool - was the two-parter World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls, which I thought was far less regarded (along with that entire season). #3 was the Tom Baker classic Genesis of the Daleks with #4 Peter Davison's swan song, Caves of Androzani.
WEAT/TDF is the most recent story on the list, I'll just leave that there.
The irony is when Heaven Sent aired, it got a very low Audience Appreciation score. Guess time has been kind to it. I love the fact the allegedly "not universally loved" Twelfth Doctor scored the top 2 positions in the poll. I say that not to knock who followed but the fact is people are for some reason blaming Capaldi and Moffat for the show's quality and ratings collapse after, even though neither had anything to do with the show after 2017. Oh well, I love irony.

On this day in TdF history
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
18th July 1997
On this day Jan Ullrich absolutely destroyed everybody on the second solo time trial, letting the world know why he was the man in yellow.
He even managed to overtake the second placed Virenque, who had started three minutes ahead of him.
Pivenage even jokingly told him to drive past Virenque on the left and give him a little spook. (Jan of course didn't do that)
Also interesting to meantion: unlike his biggest idol, Miguel Indurain, who always had the newest, most aerodinamic equipment possible, Jan showed up rather nonchalantly, merely putting his hat on backwards.

not gonna post my tdf '23 bingo card here but my fave squares for this year include "questionable TT outfit choice", "racer clearly wanting to murder one of the moto team", and of course the classic "rider headshot that looks like it was taken while they were at their lowest point"

in review - once again! - 2022
below cut :/
i did... Very Little drawing this year ! - which i’m really not happy about, and i’m not sure how that happened tbh. that said, if nothing else, instead of drawing i got ‘a lot’ of printing done!
it was a good year for like. my Actual Practice - i spent a lot of time in the studio, got a piece (that i still like!) into an actual public show, as well as for the first time sold some work!! I also got to finally mess around with a riso machine, as well as someone offered to show me more litho stuff, so im hoping to pursue that much more in the year :) - as well as finally do a bunch of projects i’ve been putting off for ages & dear god, fckn draw more
====
watched a lot of movies though!!!
ltrbxd says i saw like. 115 or smth, but that’s an estimate bc i went to a couple of shorts showings (as well as fell asleep at a couple :’/ ). it’s been cool!! have finally seen a bunch of genre classics, and had like, a seeing thru the matrix moment~ where i could tell a whole bunch of influences that had affected smth i was watching ! id quite like to try to strike a similar balance this year as well; catching up on like. ‘genre staples’ but paired w the weirdest most niche shit i can find - fingers-crossed! (thinking about putting together a little round-up post of some of the ones i saw this year that really stuck around for me, but idk)
=====
Pods!!
usually i think - and by usually i mean like, last year - i’ve got more to say on this front, but a lot of the pods i really enjoyed this year were hold-overs from 2022-
AMCA: i’m someone who while they don’t care about starwars, DOES really like podcasts about it, which is weird & difficult to explain, but this is still so good!! 5 star podcast, 5 star runtime! everyDAY do i wish they could do a special about dune...
The RETURN of toxic podcast!: as before, a podcast only for me really, and the only podcaster that i do have smth approaching a parasocial relationship with - its just been nice to hear from Ale again!! The branch into ltrboxd reviews as been a fun venture too, imo.
FATT/SANGFIELLE: though difficult to believe, that DID happen this year!! Sangfielle is still so so good, and it got me back into both listening to bluff as well as trying so hard to catch up on ptzn, its just really fckn good what else is there to even say! (Met a lot of v cool people through this as well, which has been so cool :) )
Assorted Seán L@TDF podcasts: while he has dropped completely off the face of the internet - though hopefully not the earth - the man DOES still have years of weird (mostly movie) focused podcasting to go back in on, which i do find consistently compelling!! turns out when u practice putting thought into words and then presenting for long enough you do indeed build a skill. His found footage series (Hundreds of Pixelated Dead Bodies) series is great, and introduced me to a lot of stuff, ditto his other series (hundreds of dead bodies). I’m hoping to get through the big, thoughtful series (ALL UNITS) this year, and maybe I’ll get even luckier and he’ll return to the land of podcasting soon.
I’m sure i’ve missed some on this one, but these are the ones that stood out to me this time round, i guess. i’m excited for the new twioat series also, lol.
=====
i did like, almost no reading, or tv watching, though i did start, and plan - and not finish - a good couple of knitting projects. didn’t get out to see many gallery shows either, which isn’t so great - though i DID manage to have a startlingly good year socially ?
made some new friends, had a whole private theme month devoted to the films of al pacino, and got to see two bands/musicians that i really love play live!! Good Ol’ Stevie P w @silverview (<33) && TWRP - both of which were so so great, and made me wish i got out more lol
lots to be done this year, as per, but hopefully it’ll be fine

Hello!
Firstly I just wanted to tell you I love the daemon quiz and it's been awesome sending it to all the people in my dnd group to see what they get. I sent them the pokemon quiz a while back and that was a blast too.
Secondly, i was wondering if I could mabey get some form suggestions? If you still do them, if not that's totally fine no worries :)
I'm in a bit of an odd pickle. I'm an INFP, I bond closely with small groups of people and (the pickle part) I protect them FEROCIOUSLY. I lack the classic infp avoidance and passivity due to some very rough life experiences. Because of this a lot of infp forms don't really seem to fit, but I'm not quite sure what to do about it otherwise. If it helps at all, I'm chaotic good with a 548 tritype. any suggestions your willing to give would be amazing. Thank you so much again for sharing your work through your quizzes!
ahh thank you so much for the compliment, i love hearing what friend groups and families get! :) i'm just a sucker for imagining my friends vibing with their daemons...
oh a great question! a lot of INFP forms do tend to get delegated to the dreamy poet stereotype (rabbits, doves, etc), when honestly INFPs with their Fi leading the way are some of the most ride-or-die friends there are. they have such a strong, deep sense of self that i think a lot of interpretations tend to focus on their desire to achieve inner harmony -- but this is not necessarily at the expense of retreating entirely from external stimuli. Fi is an internal process, but it's wrong to think that it's not equally as involved in upholding an INFP's principles (you are acting in an egregious way by hurting my friends so i will tell you off) as it is creating them (these are my values and i surround myself in people who respect and agree with those values). so in summary i would definitely expect an INFP 5 to be curious and selectively sensation-seeking, as well as stubborn and protective... particularly detached from the imaginative INFP stereotype because what if it's wrong, what if it's purposeless, what if it's not productive.
i'm wondering if some wild canids or scavengers might be a good fit for you. jackals and coyotes seem a little too harmonious, so my first thought was something along the lines of the new guinea singing dog, which TDF has a beautiful write-up on here. they're internal and standoffish people who view new people with a wary eye, though are incredibly protective over their own space, friends, and ideas. i think they may lean into a sort of paranoia about loss: i can see an 8 tritype come through with their sense of confident and competitiveness, combined with a need to be in charge of themselves and avoid control. i think they also pair a chaotic nature with the more "lawful" stereotype of the 5 together well. they're active, curious, and opportunistic, but also closed-off, watchful, and possessive. they are Fi: self-focused and willing to move on from situations and people who aren't good for them, but dutiful towards the people and things to which they have made a conscious commitment.
chaos, introversion, and possessiveness also reminds me of rodents! what's pretty cool is that porcupines are a pretty varied group: old and new world porcupines are actually pretty distantly related and are an example of convergent evolution! their spines are completely different; the new world porcupines have the characteristic barbs, while the old world don't. anyway, i think a species of socially tolerant porcupine might fit, like the brazilian porcupine which lives in small tight-knit groups and has an almost entirely arboreal lifestyle. they're generally easy-going and keep to themselves, confident enough to be independent when needed, but also fiercely self-assured and protective when need be. they're also known to greet and say goodbye to other porcupines in their group which i think is just a cute fact. old world porcupines tend to be more socially tolerant; the crested porcupine is tight-bonding and loyal, but also highly defensive when pushed. they're adaptable and open-minded, if not quite stubborn -- they also have the most delightful sense of curiosity, and are known to collect bones and bring them back to their dens. the indian crested also seems worth looking into, or if you enjoy unique animals, the brush-tailed porcupine is an option. they're fairly social and generous, protective and resilient, inventive but habitual. if you're not vibing with porcupines at all, other rodents you might consider are the cape ground squirrel (very devoted to friends/family, routine-oriented and diligent, like to stay busy and be competitive, protective and fierce when their loved ones are threatened... but might be too social for you), the muskrat (introverted but socially tolerant, generally non-confrontational and keeps to themselves but very assertive when pushed, judgmental and habitual, impulsive when following their heart, perfectionists and hate being wrong, though not at all group-oriented or dependent on others), or especially the maned rat (has a strong sense of self but is also tightly bonded to loved ones, protective and observant of their loved ones' feelings, curious but habitual, emotional and emotive but not necessarily talkative, private but aggressive when bothered).
and finally i'll tentatively suggest the mediterranean water shrew. they're a socially tolerant shrew species that lives near bodies of water. like all shrews, the mediterranean water shrew is a highly particular individual who tends to take a while before they accept new people into their inner circle, but once they do they're agreeable "us vs them" sorts of friends. they're rather possessive of their sense of security and suspicious about others, they may just be more curmudgeonly than actually hostile or judgmental -- however they certainly are competitive and distinct. i would generally categorize them as INTPs just due to how they're not particularly altruistic which might not work for you. they value self-sufficiency and drive, and they tend to not get involved in other people's business. the eurasian water shrew has a bit more bite -- more confident and domineering and hierarchical.
hope this helps! :)
