Sirius felt horrible. He was so cold he was shivering, even with his warmest clothing on, or under his thickest blanket, and of course that test was positive, although he had barely stuck it in and still sneezed like crazy. To top it all off his fridge was empty. Entirely. Severe case of bad planning. But how was he supposed to live now? He couldn't go out and buy something. He couldn't stay in and starve and besides, his mind was all fuzzy.

Just then Remus called. “You've what?”

“The virus-shit. It's...”

“I'll come over...”

Sirius tried to convince him not to. It was contagious, and... he was really not good company.

But Remus decided: “I'll wear a mask.” Even if they both knew that was far from 100 percent safe.

But later, with a heated sheet in his blanket and a hot soup in his hands, with a bunch of tissues by the bed and some soft music playing, Sirius was incredibly grateful.

And if Remus caught it, he would just do the same for him.

I'm really not qualified to say this, but I've heard the argument that the value of a human life is very high, so even the low chance of being in a large group of people who take the vaccine and survive it and don't catch coronavirus is so high that it's worth it for the marginal person.

They just shut down all schools and kindergardens and gyms and universities and pretty much everything other than grocery stores, and the prime minister said they’re gonna put in place restrictions etc that are the most intense we’ve seen since world war 2, so uh everything feels real weird today

I've been wanting to post more. I haven't had very many Harry Potter related ideas lately for some reason.

I live in the United States' "ground zero" for the virus and it's definitely scary. 😬 I saw recent photos of Seattle and it's... a ghost town??? When it's the most populated city in the state and usually has nightmare traffic all day.

Thankfully people can still go out to buy food and other essentials, and restaurants are still doing deliveries. There's a guy walking around one city dressed as a flamingo to try and cheer people up. I'm pleasantly surprised by folks' positive attitudes. Trying to stay positive myself lol

It's the second week and I'm starting to feel better. Still very tired, but awake for more of the day and able to concentrate longer!

I'm very lucky, my job allows ten paid days off for covid before needing any kind of doctor's note. So I'm all good on that front.

I've been handling social distancing really well, looking on the bright side, looking forward to when it will end, using my time to practice and learn new skills, staying positive, and knowing that I am extremely lucky to still get paid to do work from home. I lost my second job, but that's okay because without having to commute, without spending money on random snacks while at work, without going out every once in a while, I don't quite need the extra income. It's a little tighter but I can make do.

But today Michigan and Indiana departments of education announced that we will not be returning to school for the rest of the school year and I am heartbroken.

I work with 8th graders this year, and they were 6th graders when I first started with Discovery. I knew these kids as baby middle schoolers and got to watch them grow into the big kids on campus. I have gotten to know so many of them so well, and I miss them so, so, so much. I won't get to see my 8th grade GSA members again. I won't get to go with them to DC because they won't get to go. I know so many of the kids were looking forward to that.

The worst part is, I didn't really get to say goodbye. That last week of in-person classes we didn't know we wouldn't be returning until after we had gone home. As an EA, not a teacher, I no longer have direct access to any of the students, not even my special education students. I won't get to give them one last farewell, I won't get to sign their yearbooks, I won't have one last laugh or dance or silly face with them.

I know this will end. I know I have been so lucky to get to know these kids for three years. I know they won't suffer for lack of those things they will miss, and in the end nor will I. This will pass.

Still, I am very sad today.

I do not do well with uncertainty, lack of control, lack of routine, etc.

I am incredibly blessed in that I legitimately probably will not have to go into work for the next two weeks and still probably won't lose pay unless the TEA are absolute dipshits, I have some non perishables stockpiled anyway because family history, and I can comfortably stay home completely alone with internet and more books than I know what to do with. I am not currently sick and I have a month of meds on hand. I am incredibly privileged even as compared to other people in my daily life, and I know it.

All that said, Mom and I discussed what happens with the schools /after/ two weeks (she doesn't think we can keep them closed unless the nation goes on a full lock down) and the possibility of needing a lock down like Italy or Spain but not getting it because the Federal Government is entirely incompetent.

And I just don't do well with not knowing/anticipation. But I'm saving my remaining wine and hard seltzer for later so tonight will probably be a "Benadryl to sleep" night. Should've stocked up on Benadryl.
