you know. corpse party is still trying to keep the franchise alive. or else they wouldn’t be releasing new and improved versions with extra chapters for newer systems. so somewhere, deep deep down, they still care about the franchise.

so, here’s my hot take on what they should do to revive the franchise:

retcon blood drive

just do it

no one likes that game. there’s nothing about the game to keep. the plot is way too action packed for this franchise, the style was awkward and ruined the story at some point, the animations were clunky and goofy, the way the game plays is absolutely horrendous, the new characters added are… weird to put it lightly, every single lore revelation made was ridiculous and the story is fucking atrocious. just throw the whole game in the garbage.

and then, make an actually good sequel to book of shadows that doesn’t shit on the grave of the franchise!!! strip it all the way back, remember your roots. copa is about high school kids who wanted to do a ritual to stay best friends forever. get rid of the stones that magically teleport the owner to heavenly host, get rid of the whole backstory of the witches and the shinozaki family, get rid of sachiko’s twin, get rid of that creepy fuck boy that wanted to use the book of shadows to cause the fucking ghost apocalypse and destroy the world or whatever, get rid of the new substitute teacher that for some reason had a crush on a teenage boy, get rid of the flesh virus that infected the whole school for some reason, just forget any of that existed. keep it simple.

ayumi going back because she feels guilty and responsible for all her friends dying is a great start. let’s go from there.

the book of shadows itself can stay idc just erase 90% of its plot armour and we’re good. also don’t have the book be inside ayumi all along. don’t do that. what the fuck was that.

anyways if there are any corpse party devs reading this: stop working on the dead patient sequels that no one cares about and start remaking blood drive so it gives a satisfying conclusion to a franchise that’s somehow managed to stay alive for over 20 years. we still care about this franchise!! it means so much to a lot of us!! it was a big part of our fucked up childhoods!! you are capable of making a good game i believe in you!!!
