Azure's Corner

A history lesson about my species.

See, the thing about my species is that we're charged with an ancient honor from Lord Xenu. He uplifted our species from swamp dwelling gecko-crocodile-salamanders orbiting a dim blue dwarf into the Galaxy's, perhaps even the known Universe's, most powerful Alpha Apex Predators with the sole focus to preserve peace, justice, and the enforcement of law across the cosmos we survey wherever we go. Initially to fight the tyrannical and depraved Thetans who sought to dominate and consume the lifeforce of the unwilling to expand their numbers and consume the Universe's energy to live, my people now have expansive fleets that troll evildoers wherever they may be, and destroy them if necessary.

We're big on sarcasm and rapier wit being a valuable weapon against ideologies which surmount to subvert the needs of the many and the one. How do we know what's right versus what's wrong? It's easy: We don't take bullshit for an answer. Some of our actions might be construed as authoritarian, totalitarian even. We do tend to take over a star system that's out of control. We have to.

However, we return the system to law and order in a method of their own choosing. We might not like what they choose, but as long as it's collectively what they want and doesn't cause problems for anyone else, fuck it. It's their world.

On some rare occasions, we'll keep their star system. It's because they can't be trusted. This usually comes about from a decision that they continuously slip toward evil activities with malicious intent toward other species. Rarer still, we'll just destroy them, their planet, and even rarer yet, the entire star system. Yeah, we can and have done that.

One of those rare occasions was a very Nazi-esque species we encountered on one of the spinward marches. They had two star systems and had wiped out one species on a dual-species planet, and subjugated the sibling species as slaves. It's also rare to have a system with two species that cohabitate. With the loss of one, the other was forced to be subjugated to survive. We couldn't stand for that. So, under the Great Empress Tha`rr~hru'll Mmmmrrrr-thr'ahrl (My grandmother -- We had very long names back then), our fleet was ordered to restore order at all costs and prevent the spread of their vileness. It just so happened that we discovered Thetan influence involved with the aggressor species.

Well, they were rather powerful already as they were a spacefaring FTL capable culture built upon the backs and ashes of others. And they did put up a good fight, initially. So we decided not to land dropships to risk our soldiers and detonated a Starbomb. It's a lovely device, really. Huge as fuck, it creates a quantum entanglement effect between particles of what you call a Kerr-Newman black hole and a star's matter. A Kerr-Newman black hole is one which rotates and contains an electrical charge. The cascading effect is mass amplification through the entanglement of the charged particles and the quantum exchange of energy from the black hole into the star's matter. This slows the Kerr-Newman black hole and imparts a lot of energy that must be converted into mass by the same means as Einsteinian matter-energy conversion. I'll spare the technical details because y'all can't be trusted with an M80 without adult supervision and this is one gigantic M80.

From their warships and planet, they watched as their lightweight yellow sun (about 2x the solar mass of Sol) turn a shade of reddish-orange upon a shockwave of blue light that rippled across the surface. Mass increased by several thousand fold within just an hour. Our fleet amassed just outside the safety limit to prevent any of their ships from escaping the increasing gravity well until their star went pop.

The shockwave obliterated the inner sphere and violently so. Everything within the inner shell was annihilated and any survivors were destroyed with impunity. And then the fleet turned on the other system not far away, which had been witness by our broadcast to the annihilation. Needless to say that the aggressors surrendered. We accepted their surrender, and took all of them off world onto automated transport ships. Then we flew those ships into the dying embers of their own home star.

However, due to the damage done to the captured world, we took charge and it became one of our most distant outposts. To this day, the surviving species there has enjoyed many freedoms, and has become less dependent on others to survive. Now, they're very prosperous and many, but we remain in control since they're a very submissive species that couldn't manage themselves out of a cardboard box if their lives depended on it.

Here I go...? Weird timing on my end, but despite a hectic weekend and Monday, I'm feeling chill. So. Reveal time? I hope I do not regret haha... I'm MCalhen (link to AO3). Yup, a couple of you know me bc I like your writing a lot. I'm the bringer of long comments! I'm so sorry, I've deceived you. 😔 Most of my work is currently locked in a collection, so there's not much still public. When I felt apprehensive about my writing last summer, a friend suggested a collection. A few fics will remain in "fic jail", while some might be brought out again if I ever edit them. Some are old and should remain privately archived, and one is a fan theory that has since been disproved. :P (And the Brain fic is also canonically wrong now. Thanks, KH.)

I have four blogs on tumblr but the writing one is @mcalhenwrites (also my main, so sometimes I reblog stuff to it, but I'm not active in fandoms lately) I do have a crochet blog that I seldom use and deleted nearly everything off of a couple of years ago. It's @mcalhencreations if anyone is interested... I currently only have one twitter account, it's for my writing. I keep deleting my fandom accounts on there. I'd remake one if I could transfer my massive block list. I have a goodreads that currently only gets used for reading, even though I am an "author" (and of my four books, only three are listed under this name and only my two attempts at erotica are even still for sale).

If you want to read the antithesis to Vivian's parenting, I have Wandering Souls. Sibling fluff? Language of Flowers. Rascal might be off-putting due to all the kink, but I assure you it has heartwarming moments, sibling bonding (takes some time to get there tho), and daddy issues. It's also complete, tho I have side stories and AUs I'm tinkering with~ I've got some more original work posted on my pillowfort, but I don't remember what bc it's been forever since I used it... Most of my other original writing hasn't been published yet, but I'm working on the edits for self-publishing my novel, Geckos, Automata. If you want a comprehensive list of my stories that are in progress, I miiiight type one up on google docs? (Not on tumblr. It gets mad if I make long posts.) I have an expansive dragon universe that covers several novels. The most recent I've been working on is called The Dragons' Cosmos, though Seasons sort of put it on hold. It's fantasy/scifi, and there are dragons, but also people. In fact, abuse is a pretty common theme in that series. Wayne is worse than Vivian, fortunately his son succeeds in running away - off the planet, in fact~ Feel free to peruse my bookmarks on AO3 or my read list on goodreads, there are damn good authors in there. ;) (Do not be surprised if I delete this in a fit of anxiety! Might be "too late" but that won't stop me.)

For fun, I figured I'd share a couple bits of trivia and headcanons for my gang and some canon characters specific to "Starlight" (the FFIX x Original fanfic) to #fill the void #from the void once more. 🍃

My Gang:

Though Branson is rather skilled with the lute as well as guitar, when it comes to chords, they most always have to be simplified due to having four digits vs. five.

Mina, despite being mostly inspired by the Luristan newt in design, can do the eye-licking thing geckos do. She can, she isn't notorious for doing it like her siblings, though, who often did it (and still do) simply to mess with people.

Lorien is a left handed violinist. He has earned the goofy little title of "Lefty Lory" in some circles for this reason.

Known for struggling with sleep, it is theorized that one of the many reasons Sal does is because she often travels. Though she keeps track of different times on her cell, particularly her "home" time, the frequent exposure to different times across the cosmos inadvertently take their toll on her.

Canon Characters:

While Kuja's "hair feathers" may not necessarily grow like proper feathers, they do go through molt cycles akin to an actual bird's feathers. They can also be plucked. Anytime he loses them for any reason, he will dress accordingly to hide the fact or lock himself away, nowhere to be seen until the feathers grow back.

Survit (Kuja's silver dragon) earned his name after a rather dreadful encounter with dragoons. Derived from French (given some of Gaia's cultural inspiration and how Kuja inevitably forms some intrinsic interest in said culture once stranded with it) "Survit" translates to "survives."

Though it currently serves no story purpose, Garland is familiar with Ethereals. There are records of them, in their purest form, being used as a source of fuel many millennia ago as Terra navigated the cosmos. Though, they are seen as little more than organic energy sources, given that their purest form bears no sentience (Ethereals not bound to corporeal forms, like Sal, are like space jellyfish, so to speak! A bundle of nerves and energy, easy to interpret as mindless.)

There is some bad blood between Lowell and Lorien. There are whispers that the two had been in a relationship once upon a time. Needless to say, things didn't work out!
