A Long Friendship
America and Morocco. I don't think many people understand the long friendship these countries have had. Morocco was the first to recognize American independence, and has the Treaty of Peace and Friendship, which is America's longest unbroken treaty relationship. America tried to keep Morocco from being colonized, and was a big supporter of Moroccan independence. America also recognizes Morocco as a major non-NATO ally.
So America and Morocco are old friends. America considers Morocco to be his first post-independence friend and ally, a status that has not changed.
Morocco knows about America's civil war, and was the only person America willingly told. Morocco also knew about America's states before they were revealed. He figured it out himself, and then got confirmation from Liberia.
The states knew that Morocco knew they existed, and have even hung our with him. They keep it a secret from America because Morocco wants America to tell him when he's ready.

Secret States Chapter 17
Running From Trauma
Confederacy POV
"Union you have to stop blamin' yourself for everything your government has done wrong." I told him as I walked into the room, watching Union choke back tears, trying to hide his emotions. Like normal.
"Why? Why should I? I have to take responsibility!" Union yelled back. I rolled my eyes. When was this idiot going to learn that he was his people, his states, and he was just as innocent for of his government's action as people who were never involved in the government. Sure he had some involvement, but not all the time. Not everything he claimed was his fault was his fault.
"For somethin' that ain't your fault? Don't be an idiot Union. You know not everythin' that you claim is your fault is. You can't just claim things as your fault and expect that to get rid of the trauma. You say that you hurt your states, your colonies, your territories, the reservations, you say that like they aren't a part of you. You say that like what hurts them doesn't hurt you too." I told him.
"Because...because...it's their trauma, not mine. I can't be affected by something that was meant to target a specific state...I...it wasn't...I...I...its my government, so it's my fault. I'm not going to use the trauma of my people to get out of it. It has to be my fault. Don't try and say it's not." Union said. I sighed. Why was my brother so stubborn?
"America. You are them. They are you which means that their trauma is yours, even if you don't want to accept that. But whether you like it or not, you have trauma, and you have to stop ignoring it. You're not helping anyone, not your children, or the reservations. Or yourself." Morocco said. Union held his head and looked angry.
"No. No it's not. You...you have no idea what I've been through. You can't tell me I have trauma. I don't." Union said. My stupid idiotic brother. I don't know what he's been through? Bullshit. Ever since the Civil War I've been with him. I know he has trauma, because I do too, because his parts do too.
"Really? I know what you've been through Union. We fought the World Wars, the Ci-"
"DON'T BRING THAT UP PLEASE!" Union screamed, tears falling down faster. Morocco walked over, getting ready to comfort him, but I held up and hand and he stopped. I walked over to my brother, and hugged him.
"Union, you can't ignore what happen forever. I know it hurt you, and it hurt me too, and I know it hurts you too this day, but ignorin' it, bottlin' it up. It doesn't help you. Please Union. Please. It hurts to see you like this." I told him.
"I...I...you shouldn't worry. I'm fine-" Union began, only to be cut off my Morocco.
"BULLSHIT!" Morocco roared, causing Union to flinch back, "Ame, you're a great friend, but you are so dense. People are worried about you, and insisting that you're fine isn't how you get them to stop worrying. It only makes us worry more."
"But I...I am fine. I don't have trauma and you don't need to worry." Union said, trying to stop crying.
"Well if you don't have trauma then why can't you say my name? Or even hear someone mention the words 'civil war' much less American Civil War. Stop pretendin' like you're fine. I can see that you ain't." I told Union, watching as he flinched back at the words American Civil War, a haunted look appearing in his eyes.
"I...I...I..." He stuttered out, moving his head away so I couldn't see his eyes.
"Ame no one's going to think badly of you for having trauma. Every country has it. It's one of the only things we have in common. You don't need to pretend you're strong." Morocco said. With that Union broke down.He began sobbing in my arms, his body shaking with the force of the sobs. Then Union began talking about his worries.
"It's just, I can't shown people that I'm weak. I have to be strong, I have to prove myself as a coin try, which means I have to be strong. And I'm the world power. How can I be weak? How can I expect my friends to like me when all I do is horrible things? How...how can people like me? I just don't see why. What's the point in liking me?" Union began, his voice going from distressed to resigned.
I hugged my brother tighter as he said that. We may not get along, and we never talk to each other, but my brother didn't deserve to feel this way. He didn't need to feel like he had something to prove. He didn't need to feel like his family was going to reject him (although he didn't have a reason not to think that).
I never talked to Union that much. I should of. I should of seen that he was struggling before. I should have done better.
I then realized I was doing the same thing Union must be doing, breaking himself down until he didn't see him as a good person, a person who was capable of doing good.
God was Union blind to all the good he had done? Sure he may have messed up in the past, but who hasn't. I've messed up before.
"Ame..." I heard Morocco muttered, before he came and hugged Union with me, "There is so much about you worth liking. You have a kind soul, and you always want to help others."
"Then why does my government do so much wrong." Union said.
"Oh fuck the government, you ain't it Union." I said, pulling out of the hug, looking Union in the eye.
"Fed what are you doing?" Morocco asked, as he pulled away from the hug as well.
"Talkin' so sense into my idiot of a brother, that's what. Now you listen here Union. You are not your government. None of us are. You are not at fault for what your government does, even if you had a say in the decision. Because at the end of the day you are not the United States Government. You are the United States of America, the people, the culture, the reservations, the tribes, the states, and the territories. They are your heart and soul. They are you. Not you're government. You will never be your government. And I will say that until you get it into that thick head of yours." I said.
"But my people have made mistakes too." Union begins, but I cut him off.
"And they're gettin' better. Sure, not all of them are, but they are gettin' better. Please Union, stop lettin' yourself get weighted down by the past. It's not helpin' you. Focus on healin' from your trauma. I can promise that's all your family wants from you." I said.
"And your friends. Ame, as your friend I will tell you that I want you to be able to be yourself. I want you to be the person you are, not the person you pretend to be. I want to see you heal. Because seeing you act like the person you are, the spunky rebel I met all those years ago, that's all I expect from you. You. Nothing more." Morocco said.
Union sat down and put his face in his hands, before letting out a deep sigh. Tears were still flowing down his face, but slower than before. He looked so sad and defeated. I had rarely seen him look like this, as he always hid his emotions.
"God I fucked up didn't I? And I understand what you're saying is probably more true than what I think." Union began, letting out a little sob, "but it's just so hard to believe."
I sat down next to Union, putting my hand on his shoulder.
"Union, I know that we can't change your mindset in a day. But I will tell you this every single day if that's what it takes for you to start believin' you're a good person again." I told him. Union smiled at me, wiping tears from his eyes.
"Thanks Confederacy." He replied.
"No problem brother. And you said my name, which seems like a pretty good start."
?? POV
I couldn't believe what I had overheard. Everything that America said was a goldmine for my friends. They wanted to know his weaknesses, the ones he refused to share. I had to message them as soon as possible.
This was information that would be vital for them. They would finally be able to achieve their goal. And once their goal was achieved, well with any luck America will never be the same again.
Just like we wanted it to be.
I pulled out my phone and scrolled through my contacts until I reached them number I wanted to call.
"你好" The voice on the other end said. I smiled.
"I overheard a conversation between America, Morocco, and an organization. I learned some very interesting things I think our friends will be interested in." I told them.

Morocco was the first country to recognize America as a nation so they're good friends.
In nation verse they mostly do culture exchange and just sort of chill. but in a hauman au? Yeah no. They're friendship activities range to everything from existing in the same room as each other to stealing a Walmart shopping cart and riding that bitch down the steepest, paved hill they can find.
