Go COMPLETELY overboard with sad Alaska. I yearn for angst!
Maksim’s Lookalike
(A/N: First requested oneshot!
Sure, why not? But I get to shove a cute scene in there or so help me—
Also, I’d like to put a warning for severe hatred of one’s own looks. Be aware that this oneshot revolves around that.
I’m attempting first person, too! Bear with me, I’m not used to it.
Also everyone’s beautiful in their own ways and if anybody tells you otherwise feel free to slap them, or I will for you. Don’t test me. I got twig arms and I’m not afraid to use ‘em! (ง'̀-'́)ง)
☆ Alaska’s POV ☆
Look, Amerika, it looks just like you!
Papa’s voice and harsh laughter rang through my head, as loud as the wind in a blizzard.
His words repeated in my mind as I poked, prodded, and squished my nose until it hurt. It didn’t do me any good. When I tried to imagine what I would look like if it were smaller, it would morph back seconds after I removed my hands. It was frustrating.
With an infuriated sigh, I dropped my hands and thought back to the creature Papa showed me before.
The rat.
Big nose. Beady eyes. Gluttonous.
I had gluttony covered. I mean, I ate behind Papa’s back all the time! Regretfully, I don’t think that’d ever change. I try not to do it, but I get so hungry… I must be gluttonous.
Beady eyes? I’m not sure if I had them or not. How could I tell, anyway?
Big nose… I definitely had one of those. But unlike the two formerly mention issues, I think I can change that.
Noses barely had any bones, right? That’s why they’re so soft and flimsy. That’s why Mama’s people could pierce them. From the sound of it…
I stared down at the borrowed kitchen knife I held.
Noses seemed pretty easy to cut through. They were just meat, right? Thinner than the bites I take when I get food.
Turning this fact over in my head, I lifted the blade, letting it hover a centimeter above my nose as I tried to decide where to carve.
It’d probably hurt, but I think I could handle it. I know how pain feels.
Obviously I didn’t want to start from the middle. If I misinterpreted my starting point, I could butcher my face. Make it worse than it already was, if such a feat was even possible.
Starting from the bottom would be wise. Starting from the bottom, and whittling my way up bit by bit.
I think that’s a rather good plan! So good, a smile tugged at my face as I pricked my nose with the knife and—
“Alyeska!”
I could barely process Lietuva— Litva’s voice before the 15-year-old slammed into me, sending my knife flying. I was knocked onto the ground with a thump.
Chert voz'mi! I almost had it!
Ignoring the rude interruption known as my big brother, I crawled toward the blade, reaching out for it.
The handle brushed against my fingertips, sending a surge of hope through me. I was looking forward to getting this done. Maybe I would’t be such a burden on Papa’s eyes if I  fixed myself!
Sadly, my spark of excitement was diminished the second Litva kicked the knife away. What a suka.
“Gadina!” I groaned as he dragged me to my feet, “You can be such a bully sometimes!”
Litva firmly held on to my shoulders and turned me around to look at me.
I stared right back at my brother. He seemed shaken up. Perhaps he was feeling guilty about interrupting me?
Litva raised his hand. I widened my eyes and  ducked my head. Maybe calling him a gadina wasn’t my best idea… I don’t recall ever getting really disciplined disciplined by Litva, but there’s a first time for everything.
I studied the floor and our feet, waiting for the blow. It never came.
I heard Litva heave a heavy sigh. He gently lifted my head up. Instead of the whack I was anticipating, he used his shirt sleeve to wipe the blood trickling down my face from the little puncture mark I managed to prick on my nose.
No! He can’t do that! No no no no—
“What do you think you’re doing!?” I cried, shoving his arm away, “Papa can’t see you ruining your shirt! He’d— He’d hate that!”
Papa would have to discipline Litva! I couldn’t— It was too awful!
“Alyeska—”
“Don’t call me that!” I sobbed, terrified. Surely Litva remembers how Papa dislikes us using anything other than the names he gave us under his roof!
“It’s alright—“
“He might hear you, Litva! I’m Russkaya Amerika! While we’re in this house, I’m Russkaya Amerika! And— And you’re Litva!” I reminded earnestly, “Oh, blyat… We shouldn’t even be talking right now! Did— Did you ask for Papa’s permission to talk to me?”
“Otets isn’t home,” Litva assured, attempting to sooth me (like an idiot who doesn’t realize the depth of the situation!) by gently wiping away my tears, “He just left for the week, remember? The only people here are the staff, you, me, and that thing.”
Litva nodded his head to the doorway of the room. I followed his movement with my eyes and caught sight of a toddler, leaning against the doorframe as she sat on the floor. Litva must’ve been holding her before deciding to set her down and tackle me like a total jerk.
“Heh!” Finlyandskoye greeted.
“Tch. No need to get political.”
“Bsha!”
“Well, that’s certainly a hot take on Napoleon.”
“Doodoodoooo!”
Litva gasped in mock offense, earning a maniacal giggle from the little one, “Suomi, there’s no need to drag my mother into this—!”
“Don’t call her Suomi!” I snapped, “Finlyandskoye shouldn’t be here either! What— What if Papa found out? What if he’s not really gone? He’ll have to…! He’ll…! This isn’t right, Litva! Go away! Just… Go away and let me do this!”
I shoved past Litva and went for the knife again. I managed to grab it, but of course my bad influence of a brother grabbed my hands and started to try to wrestle it out of my grasp. Finlyandskoye whimpered in the background.
I fought my hardest, but at the end of the day I was only eleven. I was shoved to the ground once more as Litva took the knife. Typical weak, little Russkaya Amerika…
“No!” I exclaimed, eyes widening in terror as I realized what he was doing, Don’t—!”
He threw it out the open window. All I could do was watch as I saw the blade I smuggled out of the kitchen and past the staff disappeared.
He walked over and crouched beside me.
“You suka!” I wailed, punching his arm as hard as I could. That’ll show him. “Now what am I supposed to do? The kitchen’s been locked up for the day!”
Litva winced and rubbed his arm. He lifted his sleeve to check on the preexisting bruise he sustained from Papa, the one I just whacked   again. It looked worse.
I stared at it for a moment, surprised at myself.
A wave of shame and guilt overtook me. I shouldn’t of done that. Only Papa can decide who gets disciplined.
“…I’m… I’m sorry, Litva,” I apologized quietly, bowing my head, “I wasn’t thinking, I swear! I… I don’t like seeing you… hurt.”
Litva slowly nodded, seeming a little distant. His mind was somewhere else.
Silence feel upon the room. Even little Finlyandskoye was quiet, looking back and forth between her older brothers with concern shining in her blue eyes.
“…I don’t like seeing you hurt either,” Litva eventually spoke up, “That’s why I tackled you.”
“Don’t… Don’t worry about it, I forgive you.”
Litva shook his head, “That wasn’t an apology. I’m not sorry. What on earth were you trying to do, Alye— Amerika?”
☆ Lithuania’s POV ☆
Alyeska squirmed at my question. He glanced around, possibly trying to look for a distraction or an escape route. Realizing there was none, he hesitantly met my eyes.
I gave him my best look of ‘you’re not getting out of this.’ I wasn’t used to giving it, but it had to be done. I’m too worried about the situation to let him get away.
Reluctantly, the story came to light.
Less reluctantly, I envisioned pushing our terror of a ‘father’ off a cliff. Then lighting him on fire. Then feeding him to a pack of wolves.
Who needs therapy when you have a vivid imagination?
Still, the story that was told made me see red;
Alyeska was hungry. He said it was his own fault, but I know that’s not true.
An already ticked Rusja found him. His shouts scared a rat out of the pantry, but before he threw it outside, he chose to bully Alyeska with it, comparing his own son to a rat.
Understandably, it upset Alyeska. He was  terrified of rats, and Rusja holding it inches from his face certainly wasn’t helping. One thing led to another, and…
“‘Rika,” I sighed, wrapping my arm around Alyeska. I liked doing that, the opportunity rarely came around. Surprisingly, Alyeska didn’t protest. He leaned against me, seeming to be too in need of comfort to recite Rusja’s rules, “There’s nothing wrong with your looks.”
Alyeska— The poor kid— shook his head vehemently, “Papa compared my appearance to a rat’s, remember? He’s usuallyright about those things!”
Po velnių. He’s going to be hard to convince…
He won’t listen to me if I try to negate Rusija’s words; he’s too scared. I don’t blame him.
 But… What if I don’t negate Rusja’s words?
What if I twisted them?
“…What’s wrong with looking like a little rat?”
Alyeska blinked at me, confused, “…Literally everything?”
“‘Rika,” I tsked, shaking my head, “Don’t tell me you think rats are ugly.”
“Litva…” Alyeska furrowed his brow, “What are you talking about?”
A smile spread across my face.
“Rats? The bigger and softer version of mice, right?” I chuckled, “Don’t tell me you think they’re ugly.”
Alyeska frowned and sat up straighter.
“Of course they are,” Alyeska argued confidently, “Nobody likes rats.”
I gasped, pretending to be appalled. Someone should give me an Oscar. And everyone won’t even know what those things are until at least 1929.
“Are you kidding me? People love them!” I exclaimed, “Some even keep them as pets!”
“Rats?” Alyeska scoffed, “Why?”
“Well, let me think…” I pondered out loud, “There’s the adorable little eyes.”
“You mean the beady ones?”
“Yes! They’re so cute, don’t you agree?”
Alyeska seemed to think back, most likely visualizing the rat Rusja showed him.
It took him a second, but he slowly nodded.
“I guess they were big and curious,” He admitted, a ghost of a smile visiting his face, “Like Finlyandskoye’s.”
There we go.
“See? Now you’re getting it!” I encouraged, “Don’t forget their tiny ears!”
“Those were pretty cute,” Alyeska recalled, “And— And their noses aren’t… huge. They’re… actually pretty cute!”
“Exactly!”
“Their paws were funny, too! Like little hands, almost.”
“Don’t forget their fluffy fur,” I reminded, ruffling Alyeska’s curly hair. He giggled, trying to fix the hair I was messing up. He was failing miserably.
He eventually pushed my hands away playfully, desperately trying to save his hair.
He glanced in the mirror, seeing what I messed up. His neatening hands soon slowed to a pause.
“But…” Alyeska frowned, looking away from the mirror, “Why does Papa think they’re ugly, then?”
Šūdas. I didn’t know Rusja called him outright ugly. That really throws a wrench in the plan. I need to find a way to sway his thoughts.
“It’s just his opinion,” I shrugged, “But not everyone thinks that way. Beauty is relative.”
“Isn’t it a bad thing not everyone thinks like Papa?”
“I mean, Otets likes Russian salo…”
Alyeska couldn’t help but wrinkle his nose in disgust. Understandable. That dish should be burned with fire.
“He says I’ll grow into liking it,” Alyeska weakly protested, “He also says that unless you’re listening to him, you’re wrong most of the time. I mean, look at what you’re wearing.”
I blinked and looked down at my outfit. For a colony that was covered in ice, that was pretty uncool of him.
Even more distressing than the 11-year-old roasting my attire; was the fact that I was losing him. He was shrinking back to his previous beliefs.
What could I say to him? As much as I hate it, I know I can’t sway him against Rusja’s beliefs.
Maybe I can strike up a deal— or at least plead— with the country to take his words back. But until then, I was helpless in this situation. Mostly.
I think I might be able to spare some physical pain, even though I can’t do anything on the emotional front.
“‘Rika… I don’t think you’re not ugly in the slightest,” I stated, earning a hurtfully doubtful look from my little brother, “I know you don’t believe me, but your opinion on your looks is no reason to hurt yourself. It’ll be painful and messy, and I’m positive it would permanently screw up your nose. No matter how you look at it, it’s not a good plan.”
I waited for Alyeska’s response, hoping, praying that this would be the one thing he agrees with me on.
I watched the poor little conflicted one debate with himself. A minute or two later, he hung his head in embarrassment.
“…You’re… probably right. Not about the looks, but about the practicality…” Alyeska confessed, making me heave a sigh of relief, “It’s a… It was an idiotic plan. I’m… I’m glad you stopped me…”
“Trust me, I’m glad too.”
“Thank you, Litva. You might not have much common sense, but I guess a broken clock’s right twice a day.”
I nodded, electing to ignore the latter sentence. I knew those were Rusja’s words, not his.
Scooping up a yawning Suomi, I glanced out the window. A blanket of darkness was falling over our home for the night.
“Listen, it’s getting late. I need to get Suo—“
Alyeska’s eyes widened.
“Finlyandskoye,” I corrected, feeling the sleepy Suomi’s grumpy glare piercing me. Sorry little lady, I don’t want to scare your older brother, “To bed. You should head to sleep too.”
“I will,” Alyeska nodded, “Goodnight, Litva.”
“Goodnight, Amerika,” A small smile appeared on my face, “Sleep well.”
“Hvaaaa… ta!” Suomi nodded firmly to Alyeska, patting my arm twice.
I chuckled, departing to the hall, “We really need to work on your swearing.”
☆ Alaska’s POV ☆
I will go to bed. Eventually.
Not yet, though. I had to find it first.
Luckily, the winter moon was full and beautiful, illuminating the outside of Papa’s home.
I trudged through the snow, searching through the bushes.
Where was it? Where did he throw it?
After fifteen more minutes of searching, it caught my eye. It was right under the window of the room Litva and I were talking in.
I crept over quietly and crouched down.
I stared at it, trying to decide if I should go for it or not. I was honestly scared, but it had to be done.
I slowly reached for it, hand passing over something glittering in the snow. That’s probably the kitchen knife. I’ll have to remember to return that tomorrow. But for now, my priority was the fuzzy creature in my shaky hands.
The rat looked up at me curiously as I wrapped it up my scarf. I offered it a little wave.
“Privyet,” I greeted nervously.
The rodent stared back in silence.
“…I’m sorry for picking you up out of the blue, but I wanted to apologize,” I admitted, realizing that just staring at it wasn’t polite, “I was scared of you before, but now I’m realizing you were probably scared of me, too. I’m sorry.”
The rat blinked. I’ll take that as forgiveness.
“…It’s cold out, isn’t it?” I asked, starting to make my way away from home, “You’ll be cozier in the stable. There’s hay and food in there, you’ll like it! I’d let you be my roommate, but I don’t think Papa would allow  that… But I’ll try to visit you! We can be friends! You know, some people say we’re a lot alike!”
The rat squeaked.
“Great! I’ll name you Maksim. It’s nice to meet you!”

Finland and Estonia, what is your relationship?
“Well, we’re really close!!” Estonia exclaimed. He was always excited to have an excuse to talk about the other. “I’m actually his translator! Finland is mute so he uses sign language to communicate!” Estonia explained. “We talk all the time! It’s great! Some people think he’s mean but he really isn’t. He’s just a bit walled off y’know?”

Käärijä and Bojan meeting  -timeline (Part. 1)
So, I wanted to make a timeline about the eurovision preparties because I’ve been way too frustrated when people say that this is the first time that Käärijä and Bojan met:
Tumblr media
When it is NOT!
So because it’s raining outside and I’m bored, I present to you: Käärijä and Bojan preparties timeline (part 1)
Preparties were held in:
Barcelona (23.3.2023)
Warsaw (1.4.2023)
Tel-aviv (3.4.2023)
Madrid (7.-8.4.2023)
Amsterdam (15.4.2023)
London (16.4.2023).
Joker Out participated in every pre-party, Käärijä participated in Madrid, Amsterdam and London.
1. Before Preparties, sometime in march:
Bojan trying his best to learn cha cha cha (from Joker out’s instagram).
Tumblr media
2. Barcelona 23.3.
Nothing particular here expect this cute moment from Joker out interview when they were asked to sing their favorite part of their song:
undefined
youtube
Also watch Carpe Diem series ch. 3 from Joker Out youtube channel <3
3. Warsaw 1.4.
Again, nothing special, Käärijä in Finland doing gigs and losing his boleros, Joker out in Poland, Bojan very sick.
They were vibing to cha cha cha tho:
undefined
youtube
Really, you have to watch chapter 4 & 5 from Carpe Diem series. It’s on youtube. Here is the link.
4. Tel-aviv 3.4.
Bojan still sick, Käärijä still in Finland.
This time they danced to cha cha cha in party buss, there’s video somewhere in the internet.
5. Madrid 7.-8.4.
Now we are talking. The first party where Käärijä was also present.
Madrid pre-party was two-day party and they met in the first day, April 7th.  I’m pretty confident that Käärijä had no idea until this party who Joker Out (or Bojan) was because he was pretty busy doing gigs back in Finland (and he also kind of admitted that he hasn’t listened all of the Eurovision songs at this point). At that point he had said that his favorites were Germany and Austria or any other song he had listened in this video.
On the contrary, Joker out had been very vocal about Käärijä in their twitter (and in their interviews):
This was tweeted right after Käärijä won the UMK, in febuary 25th
Tumblr media
Käärijä-pe Diem was later mentioned again by Bojan in his and Käärijä’s instagram live in May
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, back to Madrid...
April 7th: The meeting
here is link to the video of Käärijä being very lost and kind of nervous because it is his first time meeting everyone (also you can see joker out behind him)
(Very loose translation: He is saying that the people there are really nice and that he is slowly getting better in english. He says that everybody is taking pictures together but not with him. Then he zooms to the mediapeople (they are waiting to go to do the interviews).
HERE is the first meeting (that we know of), everybody knows this video:

“wtf Bojan”
Cute photo of Käärijä and Joker out:
Tumblr media
and this one from Käärijäs Instagram story:

vimeo
After that, it was time to go to meet the media. Here is Joker out waiting for their interview. Käärijä is there in the backround and it seems that Bojan was pretty distracted by him (he kept glancing him like three times, bro you just met him chill out):

This is the end of part one, see you in the second one. If you dare.

Legends and myths about trees
Legendary tree deities (21)
Skogsrå – the fatal nymph of the Scandinavian forests
The Skogsrå (Swedish: lit. 'the Forest Rå'), Skogsfrun ('the Mistress of the Forest'), Skogssnuvan, Skogsnymfen ('the Forest Nymph'), Råndan ('the Rå') or Huldran, is a mythical female creature of the forest in Swedish folklore.
It appears in the form of a small, beautiful woman with a seemingly friendly temperament. She appears like a woman from the front but seen from behind she often has a tail and a hollow back or skin like tree bark.
Those who are enticed into following her into the forest are never seen again. It was said that any human man who had intercourse with the Skogsrå became an introvert, as his soul had remained with her. If the seduced man is a hunter, he may be rewarded with good luck in the hunt, but should he be unfaithful to the Skogsrå, he will be punished with numerous accidents. He may put an end to a stormy night caused by her vengeance by firing a shot against her. Late folklore in Nyland, Finland describes silver bullets as effective means of killing a skogsrå.
Tolkien describes the Old Forest, a space filled with deep-rooted mysteries and danger in Middle-earth, as follows:
“The ground was rising steadily, and as they went forward it seemed that the trees became taller, darker, and thicker. There was no sound, except an occasional drip of moisture falling through the still leaves. For the moment there was no whispering or movement among the branches; but they all got an uncomfortable feeling that they were being watched with disapproval, deepening to dislike and even enmity. The feeling steadily grew, until they found themselves looking up quickly, or glancing back over their shoulders, as if they expected a sudden blow.”
– J.R.R. Tolkien FOTR. Ch. 6

TELL ME ABOUT ERLICH PLEASE, i thought about just replying to your reply on my post, but i figure an ask is better for this kind of request >:)
OOOOFFFFF cultural oc exchange ehehehe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
disclaimer: my ocs lore is hellaaaaa messy and unstable. Nobody knows their story. Me neither LMAOO. So i perfer to look at the story like at rpg game with diff endings and stuff like that
Ok lesssgoo
FIRST his name pronunciation IS A FUCKING MESS. Everyone struggling with it: and in the ocs story and in real life. By design Erlich's name is pronounced with ch on the end like küche. Now we can go on. He is from Germany, yeah
The setting is in 2060-2099 i.e. basic the nearest cyberpunk to us. Where its always raining, anti-utopian, where you live in a Big City but in a ditch eating ants drinking benzin and etc etc. you got it.
Erlich's early life was neither tough nor easy. On the edge between living and surviving. His mother (name's Agnia) is a scientist, so he spent most of his time in labs and watching how "progress being created" or at home, where he tried to create his own silly little machines and mechanisms. Maybe hes schizospec. Maybe im just projecting my shit onto him (yea i do). We Will Never Know KDSLJFLSDFJ
Ofc his mechanic skills was not that bad for someone who just graduated from school (17-18 yrs). *blah-blah* and ofc later corpos will notice Erlich and his mech skills (not w/o mothers help tho). "Wow, succeeded in life, working in a prestige corp, and not fucking around in the junk" seems fair for cyberpunk setting imo
time flies, Erlich now is 23-26 yrs, THEN BOOM 💥💥💥💥 the main introduction plot. Big Corporate Boss assault, corporation collapse, OFC BRAINWASHING, massive staff reduction (he and his mother werent fired, they are valuable personnel).
What the assault you say? How it affected him? He was one of the main gears in the assaultion, with Agnia in the lead of it. Erlich even installed spinal augmentation and evolved from twink to himbo for this measures. Assault was done with the precision of a jeweler in the most chaotic situation. Only few knew that it was caused by them. And nobody knew it was Agnia's mindgame and brainchild.
What the brainwashing??? 'ignorance is bliss' - Agnia thought and decided not to burden Erlich with knowledge of what they had done. So he can live his life without endless regret. She had her motive
(i support women's wrongs tho. nobody is perfect or only good or evil.)
Few days after the assault he meets Mirrow in the medical bay. She was a bodyguard of one buisnesswoman (doesnt matter for the lore anymore). Mirrow was seriously injured and lost her arms while protecting The Lady. Erlich and Agnia saved her, bc Mirrow basically innocent and they didn't need extra sacrifices. So they saved her, installed new arms for her and while she was being rehabilitated, she became very friendly with Erlich (clueless and brainwashed) and said that she would like to find the person responsible for the assault. Now Mirrow attracted Agnia's attention and she decided to keep Mirrow in her line of sight.
Then the long separation of Erlich (to finland to russia) from Agnia (to america) due to corpos collapse. And reunion later to find the "the evil one in the charge".
(LITERALLY HIIIM)
Agnia's mindgames arent over yet (unfortunately) and now she needs to remove the trace from herself by "leading the capture of the culprit". and here comes rpg-ish quests and etc
Erlich knows that he somehow involved in the assault but he doesnt remember ANYTHING. And he blames himself for it. Real hard. Thinks, that he useless
Later he secretly tries to create the machine that "will help retrieve the hidden memories". Everyone was stopping him from its creation but ykno.) Overvaluated idea)
Running its tests was frying his (already once fried) mind. And at one moment it just gives a power surge, and Erlich remembers everything for a moment, but burns out and dies. BIG UNLUCKY REST IN PEPE

Ex-NIGHTWISH Members TARJA TURUNEN And MARKO HIETALA Announce September 2024 European Tour
Tumblr media
Following a triumphant series of performances in South America with several sold-out gigs where Marko Hietala joined Tarja Turunen as a special guest, the two former NIGHTWISH members are set to captivate European audiences with their enthralling collaboration.
The European trek, which will kick off in September in Germany, promises to be an unforgettable experience as these two familiar voices reunite on stage once again.
Tarja recently released her first greatest-hits album "Best Of Tarja - Living The Dream". Her live show will feature a selection of songs from her career, also found on "Best Of", including fan favorites and her own personal picks.
Adding to the excitement, Marko and Tarja recently collaborated on the duet single "Left On Mars", which received widespread acclaim.
Marko will perform his own songs with his band before joining Tarja on stage for a night that promises to be nothing short of memorable.
Expectations are high as the duo continues to delight fans with both old and new songs, building on the success of their South American tour.
Tarja and Marko's "Living The Dream Together Tour 2024" European dates:
Sep. 08 - DE Berlin - Huxleys Neue Welt Sep. 09 - DE Bremen - Aladin Music Hall Sep. 10 - DE Saarbrücken - Garage Sep. 12 - DE Leipzig - Hellraiser Sep. 13 - DE Hamburg - Grünspan Sep. 14 - DE Herford - Kulturwerk Sep. 16 - NL Groningen - De Oosterpoor Sep. 17 - NL Utrecht - Tivoli Vredenburg (Ronda) Sep. 18 - DE Bochum - Matrix Sep. 20 - DE Ulm - Roxy Sep. 21 - DE Obertraubling - Eventhall Airport Sep. 23 - DE Frankfurt - Batschkapp Sep. 24 - DE München - Backstage Sep. 25 - CH Pratteln - Z7
Earlier this month, Hietala was asked by El Planeta Del Rock if there is any chance of him and Turunen launching a new project together. He responded: "I won't close that option off. We haven't talked about it, putting up a group together or anything like that. But at the moment, it seems that we've got a different kind of connection than it was [in the] past. Because then the camps were really divided already when I stepped into [NIGHTWISH]. And it was hard to find the truth of things, because a lot of it was like a managerial turf war where we got told certain things by one side and told certain things by the other side and lots of confusion — blah, blah, blah — and in the end, yeah, what we already realized a few years back when we were all together there doing the Christmas shows in Finland that after all the hassle has died and the noise has died and everything, you still find out that you lost a friend. And that was the main [reason] why we are basically doing this together again."
In a recent interview with Thiago Rahal Mauro of Brazil's Metal Musikast, Tarja spoke about what it was like to team up with Marko to perform a cover of "The Phantom Of The Opera" during their special open-air concert in July 2023 at Z7 Summer Nights in Pratteln, Switzerland. Tarja and Marko both played individual sets at the event, with their rendition of the main theme from Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical coming during Turunen's portion of the show.
"I got a call from a promoter to take part in one festival in Switzerland last year in a European summertime in July," Tarja said. "And then I got to know, when I had accepted to be the artist of the evening, then I saw that they had also invited Marko and Marko's band to perform in the same festival. So I thought, 'Hmm.' And I was actually sending a message that I wished to reach Marko, because I didn't have his contact any longer, to ask him to perform with me 'The Phantom Of The Opera' in my show. And he responded 'yes.' So, after 18 years [laughs], we were about to sing the song together. And it was super exciting. It was really beautiful. The people got very emotional about this.
"We had met already before — we had been singing on a few occasions in Finland a few years before — so we kind of cleaned the table on that occasion already," she explained. "So we were in good terms, so to say, but now singing 'The Phantom Of The Opera' together after all these years was amazing."
Tarja also elaborated on her friendship with Marko, saying: "It's a new relationship with him, because he's not the same person anymore than he was in the band. He has changed a lot, and many years have passed by. I've changed myself. Life has changed us. So it is a new relationship, let's say. And it had made me very happy to get to know him better after all these years."
Last November, Tarja admitted to Chaoszine that she was "nervous" before performing "The Phantom Of The Opera" with Marko at Z7 Summer Nights. "I believe that he was nervous as well to meet up with me, but we were both very excited to go back to the stage and to sing the song," she said. "We sang 'Phantom Of The Opera' in Switzerland for the first time. Then we went over to Finland to perform it again, did a show together there — he with his band and me with my own. Wow. It was pure emotion. I think it was really beautiful, but it made me kind of… I was, like, 'I'm in peace,' sort of. The feeling was great. I think it was even more for Marko, because I saw him standing there after my concert, when I finished my set, and he came like almost in tears, saying that this was important. We reconnected, and it's great."
Turunen was fired from NIGHTWISH at the end of the band's 2005 tour by being presented with an open letter which was published on the NIGHTWISH web site at the same time. In the letter, the other members of NIGHTWISH wrote: "To you, unfortunately, business, money, and things that have nothing to do with emotions have become much more important."
NIGHTWISH keyboardist and main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen later called the decision to part ways with Turunen "the most difficult thing I ever had to do." For her part, Tarja said the way she was kicked out of the group proved that her former bandmates were not her friends. "Maybe one day I'll forgive, but I will never forget," she said.
In 2019, Turunen dismissed Internet chatter about her possible return to NIGHTWISH after her December 2017 onstage reunion with the band's then-bassist/vocalist Hietala during a "Raskasta Joulua" concert in Hämeenlinna, Finland.
"I know a lot of fans would love to see something happen, but it's a very long distance away," she told Kerrang! magazine. "Personally, I don't see anything happening with me and them, to be perfectly honest. Marko came a little later into the band; he wasn't there since the beginning. He was always a guy I was close to. Me and Tuomas Holopainen, however, haven't seen each other in a long time… but we have been in touch. It's not bad. The past is what it is; we can't change that. We can only change the future."
NIGHTWISH's authorized biography, "Once Upon a Nightwish: The Official Biography 1996-2006", was published in Finnish in 2006 and in English three years later.
Turunen's husband, Marcelo Cabuli, and his business partners later sued the parties behind the book for defamation. Named in the lawsuit were the publishing house Like Kustannus Oy and the author of the book, Marko "Mape" Ollila. Cabuli and his Brazilian business partners argued that the book includes false accusations and insinuations that have caused them suffering and financial problems.
The book blamed Cabuli for the events leading up to Turunen's dramatic expulsion from the band in late 2005.
In 2011, the Helsinki District Court dismissed Cabuli's lawsuit, ruling that the book — which criticized Cabuli on only a few of its 380 pages — did not detrimentally affect his work or reputation in South America. In addition, the court determined that Ollila did not maliciously portray Cabuli in a negative light.
Nearly two years ago, Tarja was asked in an interview with Top Link Music manager and concert promoter Paulo Baron and music critic Regis Tadeu if she would consider doing a tour with NIGHTWISH if all of her former bandmates apologized to her about how their split happened and invited her to share the stage with them again. She responded: "It is very, very hypothetical that all what you said will happen, first of all — it's very, very hypothetical.
"I'm living in a world, like we are all living in a world, that things happen without us noticing," she continued. "I mean, I can't really close any doors in that sense; I'm not that kind of person any longer. I learned so many things in this life already. I take them as they are.
"So I don't know. It would be very hypothetically possible," she added. "It would be unlikely to happen."
Hietala announced his departure from NIGHTWISH in January 2021, explaining in a statement that he hadn't "been able to feel validated by this life for a quite a few years now." He has since been replaced by session bassist Jukka Koskinen (WINTERSUN),who made his live debut with NIGHTWISH in May 2021 at the band's two interactive experiences.
In an August 2022 interview with Finland's Chaoszine, Hietala revealed that he went through a dark period in his life, which included depression, insomnia, anxiety and an eventual attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnosis. Speaking about how he eventually came to the realization that exiting NIGHTWISH was the right thing to do, Marko said: "It was a long process. Of course, the COVID year that was there, where I had a lot of time for soul searching, it obviously gave me the last incentive that I need something else, that if I just continue with this I'm just gonna get sicker and sicker. But, of course, it's a process.
"I've been chronic depressive since 2010 [or] 2011, so I've been on a permanent medication ever since," he revealed. "Sometimes you get used to the meds [and] you will need more. We did raise [the dosage] during the years also, but it just didn't work. And now that I started to do… I had psychotherapy for over four years now, and then I also talked to psychiatrists and some doctors and did that also in Spain. Then my psychiatrist here in Finland said that I should do these ADHD neuropsychological tests, which I then did in Spain. And, okay, I got it."
Hietala reiterated that he "had been thinking about" leaving NIGHTWISH "for a while" before making the final decision. "Because I had a lot of weight. And I tend to… With the attention disorder, it tells me that when there are lots of trouble, then the disorder makes it into a real chaos," he explained. "There's a shitload of stuff coming and going and no peace anywhere. And for a year or two, I was already waking up every night at three o'clock to bad dreams and anxiety. So I'd say that the whole process probably started already with my former divorce [in 2016]. That was a very sad time when you think about your kids and your broken homes and all that. And then, when I started to get clear from that, then there were, well, all kinds of things. I don't really wanna go any deeper to what kind of things I'd gone through, but I'd gone through enough."
Acknowledging that making NIGHTWISH's latest studio album, 2020's "Human. :II: Nature.", was a "difficult" experience for him, Marko denied that his mental state at the time resulted in a diminished role for him on the final LP. "I think the original idea was to have that… we'll do a couple of [solo vocal appearances], or one solo for me and Troy [Donockley], and the rest Floor [Jansen], and then the harmonies; that was the idea originally for that," he said. "So I don't know if it affected. I think it was sort of as planned. But at that time I already had serious trouble with concentrating and serious trouble with a constant black cloud over my head."
In July 2022, Hietala told Finland's Iltalehti that he had not kept in touch with NIGHTWISH since his departure or followed the activities of his former band.
In May 2021, Holopainen said that Hietala's decision to leave NIGHTWISH "came as a bit of a surprise." He told Finland's Kaaos TV: "Marko informed us in December [of 2020 that he was leaving the band]. And even though he has been very open about his state and problems during the past years, it still came as a bit of a surprise for us. So it was a really tough pill to swallow. And for a few days, I was actually quite confident that there's no coming back, that this is it. I remember talking to Emppu [Vuorinen], the guitar player, and we were, like, 'You think this is it?' 'Yeah, I think this is it.' I mean, enough is enough. So much has happened in the past. Something that broke the camel's back, as they say. Then, after some time had passed — a few days — we started to think that it's been such a ride of 25 years, with so many ups also, that this is not the way to end it."
Tuomas elaborated on NIGHTWISH's reasons for carrying on, saying: "I think we still have something to give, and that's the main point. The music is still there. We felt that there's still so much music that needs to come out from this band that, 'Okay, let's give it one more shot.' And then finding the new bass player was really easy."
He added: "It's not like we do this just because we need to do it and there's nothing else to do. On a personal level, I feel that there's still so many stories and melodies that I want to share with the world with one lineup or another, so that's why you want to continue and keep on going.
"I've said this a million times, that a lineup change is the ultimate energy vampire, and that's how it really felt and still feels."
In June 2021, Jansen spoke about Hietala's exit from the band in an episode of her "Storytime" YouTube video series. She said: "That was a very sudden surprise that, of course, was not fun at all. But we understand — I understand — it was a necessary thing for him to do. And from there, we had to think of how to continue without him, and that also, in preparations towards the virtual show, that was a huge challenge."
In December 2020, Hietala was crowned the winner of the fall 2020 season of "Masked Singer Suomi" — the Finnish edition of the popular masked singing contest. He was disguised as Tohtori — the Doctor.

Six Squad Nostalgia Sweets
James Bond: In OHMSS, Bond thinks about his childhood experience at the beach, noting, “How far he had come since the freckles and the Cadbury milk-chocolate Flakes and the fizzy lemonade!” (ch.1) If he drank fizzy lemonade today, he wouldn’t like it, but sometimes he sees a bottle at the store and thinks about it for a fleeting moment; he wishes he could capture how they tasted to his child self, a boy who associated lemons with joy and holidays instead of with Vesper martinis.
Eve Moneypenny: Liquorice Catherine wheels. She’s had better liquorice by now, having traveled to Finland, but she’ll never forget the gleeful anticipation  and pleasure of unwrapping and eating the whole wheel before she got to the sugary middle. The last time she saw one was at her niece’s birthday party; she showed her how to eat them properly, chomping a bite into one side and directly through the center because life was too short to take the circuitous route; it tasted far too sweet, and then inexplicably bitter as she swallowed it down.
Q: Fizzy cola bottles. He wrote some of his first code with fingers sticky from having licked off the sour sugar; he had half a pack clutched in his hand, unthinking, when he and most of Q Branch evacuated from the old Six building, when his designation changed, when he inherited the full grief and skills and ambitions of his department.
Gareth Mallory: Aniseed balls. That strong flavor! The way it lingered in the mouth before you got to the crunchy seed in the middle! The satisfaction of earning one from the schoolteacher who gave them out. This was before he learned that they could be used as a crude timing device for an explosive if necessary---they dissolve in water in about half an hour.
Bill Tanner:  Jelly babies. The fourth Doctor used to hand them out  on TV and small Bill wasn’t immune to propaganda---still isn’t. He very carefully only eats them when he’s watching Dr. Who, and although he eats them less voraciously than when he was a kid, he now has the joy of watching his niblings gobble them down at each new premiere while brandishing their sonic screwdrivers at each other.

Hey, Finland! what do you think of my drawing?
“Finland is mute, so I’ll be translating for him!” Estonia explained as Finland signed. “He says it’s lovely! And thanks you!” He translated.

Thank you anon!! ♡ 😭 I cropped it from Jere's ig story when he decided to drop the first sound of HHH at 1AM. I remember listening to that shittiest quality snippet of the song, rewatching the same story over and over, dead tired and looking at this cow behind Jukka's stone face, while thinking "yeah.. me too.." We are all this cow: stuck in a corner, heavily laying down and silently watching Jere and his friends pull another shit none of us could ever guess..
