So since you’re The Person Anons Go To To Complain About Lego Monkey Kid; I figured I’d get this out of my system while also asking for your two cents.

I don’t think the LMK crew have read JTTW. Best case scenario I think they either got some word of mouth stories and read some wiki articles.

And a lot of this comes down to their characterization of SWK and the way the world treats him.

In the book, SWK has a kingdom of monkey, but they’re YAOGUAI monkeys who are capable of speech, making an army, are enslaved several times, and were straight up referred to as his family multiple times. Meanwhile, the show just… doesn’t acknowledge his subjects? They’re at best represented as regular monkeys who wander around the island, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen SWK or MK interact with them on screen. They’re essentially background dressing.

Then you’ve got the season three episode where SWK has stage fright, which… he never really had any fear of public speaking (even to Buddha himself), and straight up gets into a massive public competition and cuts out his own entrails just to prove another guy isn’t immortal. (Even in their own series, they have confirmed SWK starred in his own movie and did voice acting for a game)

Honestly, I get the vibe that the writers care more about the archetype boxes they can fit SWK into rather then who he really is. The rest of the JTTW crew should still be alive? Well no, we need SWK to be our Hermit Mentor. We’ll just imply they’re all dead (or abandoned him for no reason). Sun Wukong has a family of monkeys? Well we can’t have that! Make them regular monkeys so he’s Truly Alone (and also ignore that he can talk to animals).

Sun Wukong is a king, and has been shown to be incredibly comfortable in his public speaking? Well we can’t have that! Because Macaque is our resident theater kid, and we need them to be Literary Parallels! Nevermind the fact Sun Wukong barely interacted with him in the book, but deeply loved Demon Bull King, and DBK has an actual reason to feel betrayed by him.

I’m not bothered by the changes like Macaque having been his old friend at one point or dead characters being alive or even the choice to not acknowledge SWK’s buddha status (in fact, I enjoy some of these), but it’s… really disheartening to see my favorite character be relegated to Lonely Mentor and Macaque’s Sun. He deserves a lot better then the show is giving him, honestly.

But ANYWAY okay folks you know the drill I sometimes find it fun to be a hater so heads up for that and remember that "don't like, don't read" goes both ways <3.

But to get to your main gripe anon, now that you've said it I wouldn't be surprised at all if that was the case...like as it is there's already been a number of cases I'm aware of from twitter where members of the LMK crew have put their collective foot in their collective mouth & came across as pretty insulting to Chinese deities for it, & then doubled down with that whole "it's our interpretation uwu" mentality which is, to put it mildly, a kind of shitty thing to do. And in regards to the main monkey himself--and in full acknowledgement of the very blatant hints they've given that there's a lot more going on with lego show Sun Wukong then has been revealed so far, it does at times seem like they're making their version of the Monkey King more in line with the "dumbass monkey who breaks everything" western stereotype than the complex trickster figure you find in the og classic...like of course there are indications that this Sun Wukong may be the one of the more tragic Sun Wukongs out there in that he's been left after the journey with no friends, no companions, no kingdom in any real way, and everyone in the entire world who's met him in person, with a few exceptions, seems to hate his guts. And you could actually refer to Xiyouji itself for explanations on why a lot of that might be: the monkey yaoguai of Mt. Huaguoshan go through centuries of lethal trauma even before the Six Eared Macaque treated them as his personal tools while he was "Sun Wukong," which could have convinced the survivors that the real monkey king had become a wicked tyrant and thus they all ran away in fear; Sun Wukong may have ended up with a case of stage fright from the journey itself because of all the times that Tang Sanzang tortured him for speaking his mind; and Sun Wukong did enrage the entirely of heaven pre-journey before largely becoming an enemy of yaoguai during the journey itself...hell, in the og classic he even starts weeping because after he was banished from the pilgrim group he feels like he has no place he could go :(.

THAT SAID, during the events of Monkie Kid itself Sun Wukong often does come across as a doofus who's doofery gets everyone into serious trouble. Just to give a few examples: him joking around & not focusing during a high-stakes situation is the reason a 4th ring of samadhi was created which got embedded into Bai Longma & eventually into Long Xiaojiao; him lying to Qi Xiaotian & telling him he was going on "vacation" even though he was running around looking desperately for a way to stop the Lady Bone Demon is a major reason she became as powerful as she did; and his entire plan to stop the Lady Bone Demon, massive threat that she is, is presented even by him as flimsy and paper-thin, something made all the worse by the danger the monkie crew was put into in the effort to get the rings & by his refusal to share all the details of it with them until it's too late. And then of course there's the Six Eared Macaque's whole thing where he's violently obsessed with Sun Wukong because they apparently used to be the best of friends before the Monkey King got power hungry, betrayed everyone, and then killed him. So far we haven't gotten so much as a brief flashback that gives Sun Wukong's thoughts about of any of this, so you can see why even if it's not the overarching intent many people would take the message to be "Sun Wukong = sucks." And it's something you see reflected in a lot of the fanart and fanfic around Monkie Kid; practically the only person the Monkey King's ever depicted anymore as being in a good relationship with is Macaque (fandoms tend to hyperfocus on 2 dudes who despise each other but have a more friendly history), many AUs make him an irredeemable selfish asshole, and/or he's being depicted as someone who fully deserves to be yelled at & hated by everyone because of the bullshit he pulled that got everyone hurt. In many ways, LMK Sun Wukong does have numerous similarities to TLJ Luke Skywalker in the way these sequels to their stories made them fail-hermits.

Now of course it must be acknowledged that across the centuries that Sun Wukong has been a popular figure in Chinese culture's he's gone through a TON of different retellings and interpretations. The monkey king has been depicted as everything from a pious and devoted monk to a crude and lecherous yaoguai to a being that is simultaneously monkey, human, yaoguai, and buddha and who is defined above all else by the capacity for great violence, great restraint, and a powerful and active love for those he considers his family. Even so, it is kind of disappointing that even with allowing for the possibility of Monkie Kid still being able to give satisfying answers for why their Sun Wukong acts the way he does, a good part of his lego show portrayal so far has just been him acting like a careless jester with disastrous consequences and, even if he doesn't mean to, hurting one person after another to the point where his actions, even if inadvertently, even if largely against his will, played a big part in helping the Lady Bone Demon almost succeed in her attempt to destroy all of reality.

Like...how do you even try to atone for that?

You were resting in your room, scrolling through your phone in your own world. You could hear the sound of your family talking and laughing in the front. You sighed as you lost yourself in the content before you on your phone screen.

You live a double life, to your family you're a nobody, you're a nerd, and you like games, anime, quirky music, cosplays, and fanfiction. However, they're unaware you're friends with the chaotic group.

You were a strange group, but it was worth it, they were the best things that could've ever come into your boring life. You first discovered them through Mei's live streams that she would stream at the most random of times, but it was always funny to watch them goof around and sometimes it was eye-catching when a random monster would appear.

You met them by chance one day when your brother ordered noodles from Pigsy's shop, you were unaware of where he got his noodles from but you couldn't care less, you answered the door with a bored expression ready to make an exchange of money for food when your whole world was turned upside down.

You were overwhelmed with excitement when you saw it was MK himself, to say you were their biggest fan was an understatement. You fangirled, and you ranted your love to him and his friends, and he took in kind as he puffed up his chest in pride. You were able to get his number and that was a good day, then it became even better a few weeks later when he had to deliver another thing of noodles, this time he had Mei with him and she liked you instantly.

She and MK stayed at your home for an hour before she invited you to come with them to the arcade and after that, you were friends with them. Being friends with them started off normal, with sleepovers, hanging out, going to the movies or the mall, hanging out at Pigsy's Noodle shop... it was normal until you ended up going on one of their adventures due to chaos breaking out unexpectedly with you there.

Mei took this as the perfect opportunity to bring you with them on an adventure so that she could show off her and MK's powers. MK was hesitant, but it didn't take much convincing when Mei mentioned it. "You can show off your Monkey King powers!!" And he was sold instantly. You were terrified yet excited to be on the scene of the battle. The trembling of the ground, the bright glows of powers, the giant dragon, the Monkey Mech, it was all so addictive.

After that, you were always on their adventures with them, rooting them on from the side while also helping them plan out their battles. It's been like that for a few months now, and you've grown to love it. One day, MK decided to introduce you to the Monkie King, you knew of the legend of Monkie King, everyone in China did, it was a simple children's story that all children knew.

Before you met your new friends, you never believed in them, but seeing their powers in the flesh, you weren't so confident in your own skepticism anymore. So off you went, with MK, on his unstable and very quick pole. You clung onto his back for dear life as you hid your face from the winds that whipped past you both.

You and MK finally broke through the thick clouds, and you stared on in awe as you saw Flower Fruit Mountain surrounded by beautiful clouds. "Wow." You said breathlessly, MK chuckled. "YEAH!! IT'S PRETTY AMAZING, YEA!?" He shouted over the winds. You nodded silently as you stared at the view. It wasn't much longer after that when you and MK finally landed on the cliff of the mountain.

You looked around in wonderment, taking everything in amazement. You stared out over the vast lands that lay before Flower Fruit Mountain, and a small smile grew on your face. You jumped in shock when a little monkey landed on your shoulder. You stared at the little monkey in shock for a while before you smiled kindly at it. "Hey there, little guy, where you come from?" You asked sweetly to the monkey as you gently rubbed under its chin.

As you did, loads burst from the trees and higher rocks, you looked around in shock as they all surrounded you, speaking among themselves as they sat around or climbed over you. MK chuckled. "Oh, man!! Looks like they like ya, which is an extremely good thing." He commented. You looked over at him questionably as you held a monkey by its underarms.

"Oh yeah? Why's that?" You questioned. He was about to answer, but another voice beat him to it. "BECAUSE THEN THAT MEANS I'LL LIKE YOU TOO!! HANDS DOWN GUARANTEED!!" His voice echoed out. You looked around rapidly as you looked for the owner, but you couldn't find him, so you looked to MK for guidance, but he did nothing as he shrugged and smirked at you in amusement.

You turned back around to ask the little monkey in your hands, but you were met with a face instead. "Hi." He simply said with a relaxed smirk. You gasped dramatically as you stepped back doing karate chops and gestures before you took a ridiculous stance in shocked defense. MK, Monkey King, and all the little monkeys stared at you blankly. Your cheeks slowly warmed in embarrassment before you quickly straightened yourself up. "Umm, ahem... Hi." You awkwardly waved at him. He arched a brow at you as he looked you up and down before he shot MK a smirk. "I like her." He said as he jabbed his thumb at you.

"AWW YEAH!! I KNEW YOU WOULD!!" MK cheered in success as he fist pumped in triumph. You nervously smiled happy to have been accepted even after your embarrassing first impression. Monkey King smirked at his student before he looked over at you catching your attention. You straightened up and he chuckled at you before he walked ahead his hand waving for you to follow him.

"Come on, let me show ya around." He said, you nodded your head before you followed after him. MK continued to rant about how he must be Monkey King's psychic. Monkey King Shook his head in amusement as he comically grabbed MK by the back of his shirt with great ease.

He carried him on, while MK continued to celebrate, you chuckled at their antics as you followed closely behind them. He stopped in front of the waterfall, you watched curiously as he held up the ranting MK to the waterfall. You stared with an arched brow as you tilted your head. He looked over his shoulder at you with a proud smirk. "Give It time and watch the magic happen." He said You nodded slowly as you watched MK rant for another 30 seconds before he suddenly spread his arms wide apart and the waterfall parted like a giant beautiful curtain.

"Woah." You whispered in amazement. He looked back at you with a smug smirk. "I know, cool right?" He asked smugly and you couldn't help but just nod your head. He walked through the parted waterfall, and you followed after him, the little monkeys all followed as well, as they ran ahead of the three of you. "So, what's the story between you two?" Monkey King asked as he walked through the cave he calls 'home', MK still in his hand as he enjoyed the ride, his legs outstretched before him as he rested his hands on his knees.

"Me and MK met through my brother by chance." You explained as you looked around the place. He nodded his head idle as he listened to you speak. MK looked up at Monkey King with wide eyes as he nodded. "Mhm, her bro wanted some noodles so I delivered it and that's how we met." He said with a little smile as he pointed his thumb at himself proudly. Monkey King smiled down at him. "Oh yeah? Great job, bud, you found a keeper!!" He said cheerfully as he rubbed his head with his other hand.

You smiled at them. 'It's like a dad with his kid, cute.' You thought.

Your first meeting with Sun Wukong was very impressionable, he was funny, chill, relatable, and very family-oriented with his monkeys and MK. It was a pleasure to see, and you wanted to come by and visit more often.

Sadly, going to Flower Fruit Mountain was a rare occasion for you, it was usually only when the world was in parel or when you were all having a celebration party after defeating a villain. It was usually during those parties that you got to hang with Wukong.

You'd laugh and play, joke, and just enjoy each other's presence. Eventually, it went from that to him coming to visit you at your family home, but he always managed to disguise himself as some sort of animal, but you told him that a cat was more favorable.

This way, it wouldn't seem weird to your family if they saw you out petting a cat, he'd usually have to sneak in at night when everyone was too deep onto their own worlds to give a damn. Some nights he'd kidnap you and would just fly you over the city, take you to some cheap restaurant, or just go to Flower Fruit Mountain.

These slowly became yours and his guilty pleasure, going out on night adventures that could last till three in the morning. It was like having a best friend that your parents considered a bad influence. MK and Mei, were your best friends, but Wukong was special.

He was your friend who was over the best friends. It was like that for a while, a few years, actually... but eventually, those feelings began to blossom into something else, something deeper and scary. You didn't want to create distance between you two over some romantic feelings, so you tried to hide them, be normal... but it was almost like he knew.

He'd do things that would make your heart flutter, or he would say things that would make your breath hitched. It was a losing battle, and you were feeling cornered, so you tried to make distance between you two. Making up false issues that would postpone a hangout, you would fake being slightly unwell to make him leave you to 'heal' for a few days... you didn't want to, but it was all you could do.

But Wukong has learned a thing or two in his age, he knew what you were doing, what you were feeling, how you were taking it, he knew better than anyone else. But he'll give you your space, give you time to realize that your feelings weren't a phase and that they were real.

He wanted you to embrace your feelings, he'll help in doing so. He'll send you flowers, cake, chocolate, jewelry, makeup, that new game you wanted, clothes, anime merchandise, anything and everything you wanted, and he'll be sure to write his initials extra large on the little tag so you'll know who it was from.

You were a wreck, he was still so close yet so far, making distance only made it worse, the gifts he'd send would make you want to be close to him... He must've felt the same way... So, with that thought, you made up your mind, you packed a couple of bags, all of your personal belongings boxed up and ready to go.

Your excuse to your family? "I'm going to donate some of this stuff and get new things, I'm ready for a new look, is all." You'd say. it took you a few days, but eventually, your entire room was packed. You had to be smart with it, leaving things out that you would use every day until the final night you'd pack it all.

You wrote a note to your family, telling them that you're going to go away with the love of your life and that they'll see you again in the far future, you'll never forget them and you'll even send them gifts and letters once a month.

Once that was done, you opened your window wide, and you waited... it wasn't a long wait, not at all, he was there within minutes. Perched on his cloud, his goody smile you love so much on his face. He reached up and grabbed a few blade furs, he blew and created 5 clones. They made quick work of gathering your packed belongings. They all jumped out the window with a box or two in their hands.

You watched them with wonderment as they worked like a moving crew, one even grabbed your bed, how that was gonna work out you didn't want to know, but he did make it shrink, so that's cool.

Once they were all gone, you couldn't help but look around your now empty room, you were going to miss this place, your family, everything... You never thought that you would be leaving your family like this one day. You sniffled as tears unexpectedly gathered in your eyes as you hugged your arms around yourself, trying to feel comfort. You flinched in shock when a pair of arms wrapped around you from behind.

You looked back, and you saw Wukong, a sweet little smile on his face as he looked at you. You smiled before you looked around your room one last time. He gently guided you to the window, he jumped out first and onto the cloud, before he offered you his hand. You grabbed his hand as you placed your foot on the window seal, but you didn't have to put too much effort into it as he hoisted you up with ease.

Once on, you fished around in your pocket and you pulled out the folded-up letter, you held it in your hand for a bit, almost like you were debating on it, but with a brief glance at your empty room, you nodded to yourself. You leaned forward and placed the letter on the window seal. You stared at it sadly, but you were happy. With one last look around the room, you slid the window close.

You leaned against the glass for a moment before you pulled away, you released a sigh, a hand on your shoulder made you perk up and you looked over at him. A small yet understanding smile was on his face. You smiled back, you stood up and you wrapped your arms around his neck while he wrapped his arm around your waist, and just like that, you were gone.

The wind blew past you rapidly as your home quickly disappeared in the distance behind you, the moon that sits high in the sky made you smile as you leaned against his shoulder. You were going to miss your family, but for once, you were going to be selfish.

Genuine question, no hate! Why stay on lmk Twitter and repost stuff to here abt it if you dislike it so much? And why are we all arguing over which platform is better? They are all good and bad, there's no better over the other.

To answer this seriously: the reason I stay is because it’s where the majority of LMK fans are. It’s the only place where Monkie Kid News and other such resources resides, and it is often the place that first gets wind of stuff like new releases. If I want to have my finger on the pulse of the show, I sort of have no choice to be. So, while I’m there, I repost the good stuff.

I’ve never engaged in arguments that one social media is better than the other, mind. Just said that Twitter sucks. But the reasons why I dislike Twitter (especially fandom Twitter) are as follows:

A culture of directly harassing people for minor infractions, or what turns out to be misinformation (just the other day, a minor was harassed for something it turned out they didn’t do)

Idolization of big name fans (like I said in an earlier post; if you criticize a big name fan, then you’re gonna get dogpiled to hell and back, and if a big name fan says something, everyone will pretend they’ve always agreed, even if they’ve expressed the opposite recently)

Literal 24/7, unavoidable discourse that nobody tags (today, the topic of fandom-wide discussion was people who treat Mei like she gets in the way of Spicynoodles, which literally nobody does)

It is so hard to optimize your experience and curate your feed, because tagging is not built into the system (like, what would I filter other than ‘Spicynoodles’ to stop seeing the previous discourse, when the majority of them are just text posts with no tags? what if I like that ship and don’t wanna mute it?)

Even if you could curate it better, general social media stuff that everyone knows about Twitter at this point makes it so that you’re always seeing stuff that upsets you (it’s designed to addict you, and feeds you the algorithm which is designed to show you posts that make you upset or angry for engagement, plus more!)

And that’s not even getting into the Elon Musk of it all, or the fact that I’ve had multiple friends on there both watch and be victims of horrific harassment campaigns on LMKtwt that left them with literal trauma symptoms.

Compare this to tumblr:

The culture here is largely “block and move on”

The tagging system makes it easy for people to tag their discourse so I don’t have to see it

Since there is no algorithm, there is no issue with being fed posts to upset me

Harassment is less normalized, and when you are harassed, it’s usually via anon, which you can turn off to shut them up

I have never personally seen any people showing weird behavior towards fellow fans, which is either a sign that it doesn’t happen or that you’re able to curate your feed with minimum effort to never see it

Twitter is an infinitely worse experience, culturally and by social media design, but I stay there because it is where most of the LEGO Monkie Kid fandom is, plus the chill people that reside there sometimes.

So, that’s 1) why I hate it there, and 2) why I’m there anyway. And I run this blog to share the goodies with tumblr, so that nobody else has to feel obligated to be on LMKtwt like I feel that I do. Which is why I make jokes about making such a huge sacrifice for the sake of LMK tumblr, via running this blog.

Tommy in LMK crossover ideas

Ahem... Below the cut, you'll find yourself faced with eight different concepts for Tommyinnit in the universe of Lego Monkie Kid. Most of which I'd like to write something for in the future, but honestly, who knows if I'll actually get around to it. If any of these happen to be up your alley, feel free to take as much or as little inspiration from them as you'd like.

1 - Amnesiac c!Tommy: c!Tommy wakes up in a city (Megapolis) with no memories aside from the innate knowledge that his name is Tommy. Lives in a cardboard box he named L’Boxberg for no apparent reason until he befriends Bai He, who, upon figuring out that he’s homeless, drags him to Macaque’s place and doesn’t accept criticism. Tommy occasionally gets fucked up by things triggering his memories from dsmp. Sometimes they’re positive memories, but mostly they’re just traumatic and upsetting.

2 - Fae!Macaque and village child TommyInnit: Tommy, MK, Mei, and possibly Bai He are all children in a rural village on the outskirts of a forest. Whenever there’s no one else around to snitch, MK tells Tommy and Mei (and Bai He, depending on if she’s there or not) about the Fae who’s been teaching him magic (Monkey King). This is great, except it fills Tommy’s head with all the wrong kinds of ideas and he decides to venture out into the forest to meet the Monkey King for himself. Spoiler alert, the fae he encounters is not Monkey King (Tommy’s persistence earns him a fae older brother/father figure out of Macaque anyway).

3 - Ghost!Macaque and Tommy: Tommy moves out into a shitty cheap flat all on his own, only to discover it’s already occupied by a pessimistic ghost named Macaque. Also, he doesn’t believe in ghosts.

4 - Vigilante Tommy, Villain Macaque: SBI is family, all of them, excluding Tommy (who’s too young) are heroes. When a villain called Macaque hurts Wilbur badly enough to put him in a coma, Tommy becomes a vigilante for the sole purpose of getting revenge by putting Macaque behind bars.

5 - Raccoonification Station: In a classic case of ‘wrong place, wrong time’ Tommy gets hit by a mystic artifact Jin and Yin were messing with that turns him into a Raccoon. Now stuck as a raccoon with no idea of how to change back and no way of asking for help, Tommy befriends the first person who feeds him- presumably Bai He, but could hypothetically work as someone else- who eventually realizes that- one, there shouldn’t be any raccoons in China, and two, this raccoon does not act like a raccoon. And then brings him to Macaque (or Wukong, depending on who it is) to see if there’s any mystic shenanigans going on.

6 - Tommy and MK roommates AU: Everything is the same, except Tommy is MK’s roommate. Ongoing joke of one of them hitting the other with “We need to have a serious discussion” and then that ‘discussion’ being things like “MK, you have to stop facing your Monkey King toy in my direction. He stares at me all day long and I am beginning to fear for my life.” (Until of course Tommy gets sick of watching MK’s mental health collapse and has a genuinely serious discussion with his roomie) 7 - Sorry!Tommy in LMK: After being buried alive by the people he thought were his friends, Tommy digs his way back to the surface with a new fear of tight spaces. Except now Tommy finds himself on a mountainous island in the middle of an ocean (Flower Fruit Mountain). He befriends a local troop of monkeys and Wukong is entirely unaware of the random human living on his mountain until he overhears some monkeys chatting about the weird boy who came from the earth.

8 - Noodle Thief AU: Tommy’s part human, part raccoon demon, and a literal child, who lives in the bushes of a local park. One day he smells something particularly tasty and follows the scent to an unguarded vehicle with several containers of noodles. This starts a cycle that will take several years off of Pigsy’s lifespan in which Tommy makes a habit of stealing noodles whenever MK’s not looking. Post season 4 special.

These are all fairly slimmed down to the bare bones premises, so if you'd like more elaboration or plot details for any of these ideas, let me know. (I also have a written scene for both the Ghostcaque AU and the Vigilante & Villain AU if anyone wants to see either of those)

a small vent post but

I’m I the only one who gets annoyed when someone brings fake teasers or news about stuff like monkie kid season 5 or sonic 3 or those looping fun fact videos or like those annoying ads on YouTube nowadays

like it gets so annoying I can’t even trust anything news related about the said media it just sometimes makes me miss the simpler time in the 2000s and 2010s

yes fandoms and media were still toxic but aleast it didn’t have those annoying loops or fake news hell the ads back then were actually really enjoyable! It just frustrating seeing people just think they can post whatever they want in the internet

Like videos with very gorey situations or sexual undertones in fucking comic dubs (looking at you couger) and most of the comic dubbers are problematic

so are fans in any time of fandom who just hate criticism with a fury any word of said creator media or the fans they release a rage like the person just insulted their entire existence

And don’t get me started on those videos with scary shit like stop scrolling if your a bad person or more

Like can we all just get our heads out of our asses and chill like just relax everyone just watch sometimes nice maybe old gameplays or cat videos or simple as a person just talking about maybe cooking!

do you have any voice headcanons for Antares? how they talk, stuff like that?

Okay well here’s the characters that I think would keep the voices similar to what they have in show, because the performances given were excellent and really defined the character to me. The cadence, the tone, all that, these ones work well.

Winter, Ironwood, Tyrian, Watts, Salem, Hazel, Oscar, Ozpin, the Ace Ops are all solid, Robyn, Whitley, Sienna, Raven, Mercury, Vernal.

So here's the ones I'd mess with:

Ruby: I’d want to still have her sound light and innocent, but I’d definitely make her way less squeaky then she was in the show. A voice that can still have a bit of grit, if she needs it. I’m picturing something like Dani Phantom in Danny Phantom, or X-23 in x-men evolution (Andrea Libman’s version). Childish but able to get dangerous.

Weiss: definitely something posh but not necessarily snooty. She should have a very clear voice, one that’s clearly been through a million dictation lessons and speaks quite musically at that. Pick a soprano broadway singer, go from there.

Blake: I think she’d probably have the deepest voice of the main four girls? Not raspy, but resonant. Able to soften up, I picture something like Vi from Arcane or Korra from Legend of Korra.

Yang: Not as deep as Blake’s voice, but definitely with a bit of grit to it that gives her that tough vibe. Where Blake has resonance, Yang does have rasp. Sorta Ryuko Matoi-esque, or like Amethyst from Steven Universe.

Qrow: as much as I like Jason Liebrecht’s work I don’t think he works quite as well for Qrow, which is not anything against him just the voice doesn’t fit as much as I’d prefer. I’ve always felt Qrow should have a voice with a deeper register anyway, so I’d be picking a performance like Wolverine from X-Men Evolution, or Ghazan, Legend of Korra.

Sun: I really like Lego Monkie Kid and all the voice actors are great, I just can’t decide if Sun gets MK’s voice (younger, peppy, excited, also Sokka) or Monkey King’s (equally peppy, a little more deep, a bit tricksy, also Goku).

Ilia: I think Cherami Leigh’s voice acting is great (maybe she can be Blake?) but my Ilia is a bit younger and a lot softer so I’d want her to have more of a higher voice, to contrast Antares-Blake’s lower register. Something that still cracks, a bit like Luz from Owl House, mayhaps, or Marcy from Amphibia.

Summer: if any of you have watched Critical Role 3 Bells Hells and have listened to Ashley Johnson’s voice for Fearne, that’s it exactly. Really soft and breathy and gentle, really distinctive from the rest of the cast.

Tortuga: Tortuga had a very deep voice compared to the other Ace Ops, but not gravelly. Not quite on the levels of like, James Earl Jones, but more like Keith Davids in his Dr Facilier role, able to be quick but with gravitas.

Cinder: needs to be huskier, definitely able to have charisma behind it rather than risking sounding childish, or whiny. I picture something like Meg from Hades or Lust from FMA.

Jaune: I think he’d have one of the higher pitched voices of the male cast? Definitely a tenor, speaks fast and nervously, I picture kinda like Martin Blackwood’s voice from the Magnus Archives (I have no idea what anyone’s accents are and I don’t want to think about it), or Rocky from Lackadaisy.

Nora: super high pitched and nasally, but really sweet and cute nonetheless. I’d say kinda like, Molly from Epithet Erased, or Ivy, Lackadaisy again.

Pyrrha: I think she should have the most standard teenager voice? She deserves it, she deserves normal and not exceptional. I picture, like Gwen Stacy from Spiderverse, or Wendy from Gravity Falls?

Ren: a very subdued, almost monotone voice, its not necessarily particularly low or high, but could totally drop down to something very menacing if pushed. I’m thinking, like, a chilled out version of Percy from Vox Machina, with that same ability to go right down into a danger zone.

Emerald: what if we took Cherami Leigh's Ilia voice and just moved it here what then? Other options I think would suit her would be something like Miriam from Dragon Age (Kimberly Brooks is always a win)

Penny: If Nora was high pitched I think Penny should sound like a literal child, on account of Pietro really leaning into the 'innocent little girl' thing when he was downloading voice clips to make into her synthesizer- or, hear me out: Penny voiced by a vocaloid.

Asking in the nicest way I can. Why do you keep watching a show you clearly don't like?

But all joking aside, thing is that I really did like Monkie Kid in its first season and was excited to see what they were going to do with what is effectively one of the few big-budget western stories focused heavily on JTTW. And the later seasons definitely do have amazing animation and their points of charm too. That said, at this point my initial genuine enthusiasm has dwindled down to the "huh I wonder where they're going to take this next" sort of attitude that I've taken when watching most of the jttw movies you find for free on youtube (& there's plenty to criticize and make fun of those works for as well). It's not the best use of my time, but I find it interesting to see the many different ways that JTTW has been told and retold through the years, even if I don't end up liking a particular retelling. Plus as Monkie Kid (& Overly Sarcastic Productions retelling) seems at this stage to be the main way that many people in the west are getting their first exposure to JTTW, I feel kind of invested in keeping up with how Sun Wukong & co. are being interpreted and understood in my general area of the world. Still, it's understandable why people would get annoyed or upset with my complaining (as it is I'm pretty sure many of the bigger fans of the lego show have me blocked & fair enough lol). But I figure as long as I keep my complaints to my small corner of the internet and people can follow, block, or ignore as they see fit then we're all good. There's enough room in any fandom for both praise and criticism, and "don't like don't read" is a policy that goes both ways.

I've realized I will say i like a thing but overall i genuinely only like specific parts.

Like Tangled the series, i say i like that show but looking back on it i really only ever enjoyed season 1 and episodes including varian because he was like... the best written character on that show. Otherwise i absolutely hated s2 and s3 jumps between bad and being on thin ice.

Then there's the Owl House which i cant even go into the fandom tag for like I refuse to interact with fandom, i tell people to skip like the entire first chunk of s1 because that was boring as shit - those first episodes were actually like the worst way to get introduced to this series, and then I'm generally good from that point on.

then we come to Ninjago which i only like because nostalgia and the supposed Potential i think it had, otherwise i think the plot of the show is stupid and the characters are all just kind of annoying and don't really have good chemistry as a group together (i think the movie did better at making them more likeable there i said it)

Now we have Monkie kid which i only recommend the first two seasons of and despise s3 and have no excitement for s4 and yet I still say is one of my fav shows and i love so deeply.

Then i say im a fan of pokemon but i actually hate battling which is the core of the main series of games so it's like How do i even enjoy the games in that case???

And warrior cats I adore, also likely because of nostalgia, but ever since i've gotten older I've realized how bad specific things in the series is and I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

And like... part of me wonders if i actually can call myself a fan of any of these things when i have such strong feelings about all the things they did wrong/i didn't like and like... the other part of me is like I wouldn't be so upset and passionate if these things didn't have some sort of meaning to me. I do like these things... i did like these things... it hurts to have things you like disappoint you.

and what is one supposed to do? just drop all the things that you like because the end product disappointed you? or take the parts you liked and make your own joy out of those?

I enjoy the first two seasons of Monkie kid, so that is what i choose to focus on.

I enjoy Pokemon mystery dungeon and collect the cards and plushies, so i like pokemon.

I take the nostalgia i have for series like Ninjago and Warrior cats and make my own stories out of them. I can take what i like and go from there.

I watch the episodes of Tangled and the Owl house that I like. I don't have to watch the ones I don't. I like these shows for when they get good.

I like to think i can still be a fan of these things, just in my own little weird way. I'm trying to get better at not letting the negatives ruin them for me. It's ok to criticize but i don't want it to be the reason something becomes ruined for me.

I don't want to lose more interests.
