She was standing on the cliff. The cliff she has known since her childhood. Here she had always waited for him. And even today she didn't wait for anyone else. The water of the sea rushed against the rock. It foamed and sloshed. Wild and unbridled. The tree she was leaning against was blooming with beautiful leaves. The wind was gentle, the grass and flowers around them still and full. New life filled the expanse and her gaze turned longingly towards the endless horizon. 

Her ravenblack hair hung loose on her body. The light blue dress with the fine pattern suited her well and it was one of the few in which she felt comfortable. Small strings of pearls were attached around the upper body and on the chest area was an amulet that her mother had once worn. A blue heart was depicted on it. Madea had often told her how much it reminded her of her daughter and how well it matched her icy blue eyes. Her mother gave it to her one night. The words she whispered still laid in her ears.

Her hands felt the amulet and yet her thoughts wandered to the bronze rings she had laid out in the manor. It was Madea and Gwydion Arinori's wedding ring. She had made up her mind that when he returned she would give him this ring as a present. And she would wear her mother's ring proudly. 

Her eyes closed, she took a deep breath of the sea breeze. It smelled salty and another scent mingled with it. A familiar scent. A familiar presence. It didn't take words to know who was behind her. She turned around and couldn't suppress a relieved smile when she saw him walking towards her in the middle of the field. Dressed all in black, hands clasped behind his back and golden eyes fixed on her. The horns placed like a crown on his head. His body language was proud and powerful. And at the same time, and that was something only she could notice, happy and open to this reunion.

When he finally reached her, he placed a hand on her cheek. The other ruffled her hair. They had waited a long time and they would never be apart again. As her hand rested gently on his, she turned her head into the touch of his palm. He held her like he was scared. Scared that she was about to slip out of his grasp. The vampire's other hand gently stroked his chest to his neck, where it finally rested. A kiss on her cheek. Her gaze met his. The moment when the endless expanse between them finally ended. The wind that carried her name when they finally kissed. "Ayane…"

The Time My Mom Got in a High Speed Chase with a Transphobe in a 2011 Manual Subaru Forester on her Lunch Break

I think it is time for you to hear the tale of my mom’s crowning moment of awesome.

It’s been a couple years now, which I feel has put enough time between the thing and it coming out on the internet that she probably won’t be arrested for it.

First, I need you to picture my mom:

She is in her late 50s, a white suburban mother of 2 married to her husband of over 30 years. She is a social worker/ADRC specialist for the county. Short, kinda frumpy in the best way, totally unassuming, and the most liberal person in a mid-sized, half-rural, and very conservative county. She is also 100% down to fight whoever, whenever, as long as she can do it in a morally correct, legally defensible, or civilly disobedient way.

Which she can do, of course, because she is a white, straight, blond-haired, blue eyed, middle aged woman from the Ohio suburbs. And she knows it.

Anyway. She has spent the last 6.5 years as the leader of the only LGBTQ+ support group in the county. She’s used that position to spend nearly two years of that fighting the Catholic Diocese and Ohio Christian Alliance for a city ordinance for equal access to housing, employment, and public accommodations for transgender people. She’s won Ally awards from bigger cities for this. That’s a story in itself, but I’ll keep it to that for now because there’s a more exciting story here.

Naturally, these efforts have made her a lot of enemies, of which she is very proud.

On this particular day, my mom was at work when she noticed a woman gathering signatures out front. My mom, always a sucker for a good petition, went out to investigate. Clearly this woman did not know who my mom was, because she immediately launched into a spiel about how there was an ordinance in the city was going to allow men to enter women's restrooms and r*pe her children.

My mom listened as long as she could (I assume less than 3 minutes), and then got up in this woman’s face and said “and if even one kid dies because you think they shouldn’t be allow to access housing or employment, that they’re a second class citizen because of their gender identity because of your lies, that blood will be on your hands”.

The woman backed off, slightly.

But when my mom got in her car to drive home for her lunch break, guess who was sitting in the car next to hers? Why, Christian Alliance Lady with her clip board and everything, eating a sandwich. Well, my mom wasn’t going to stand for that. Instead of driving home, she decided a better use of her lunch break was to sit in her car and stare at this woman until she left.

After a few minutes of getting stared at by a possibly deranged ADRC Specialist with extensive civil disobedience training, this woman starts to get uncomfortable. She slowly backs out of her parking spot, parks in another spot, and continues eating. Well, my mom notices that there’s still a nice empty spot next to Christian Alliance Lady’s car’s new parking spot, and decides it’s only fair to continue the staring contest.

After an additional while of trying to ignore my mom’s extremely disapproving yet patient eyeballs, Christian Alliance Lady gets uncomfortable again. Her lunch break appears to be over anyway, so she gets out and goes back to the entrance of the county building, hoping maybe someone will notice her distress and tell my mom to bug off. My mom follows her, continuing to stare from about 10 feet away.

Everywhere Christian Alliance Lady goes, so does my mom. Staring. 

It’s her place of employment after all, on her lunch break. This lady, technically, is the one trespassing. My mom ends up following her up a hill behind the building, through the parking lot, and all the way back to her car. Eventually I guess she gets tired of being slowly followed by a 50-something persistence hunter, because she gets back in her car and pulls out of the parking lot.

Well my mom’s not just about to fall for that.

My mom drives over to the other entrance to the parking lot and waits for this woman to try to sneak back in. Which she of course tries to do. Seeing my mom too late to play it cool, she casually tries to drive past the entrance. My mom calls her bluff, pulls out, and begins to follow her. They drive slowly through a movie theater parking lot, and then a Target parking lot, and finally out to the main road. My mom keeps following. They drive through the town square, my mom keeping a plausibly deniable distance navigating one-way streets and parking lots she clearly knows a lot better than this woman does.

Finally, the woman apparently gives up, and heads for the highway.

My mom follows.

I should break here to point out that my mom both only drives manual vehicles that look like they absolutely and completely belong in suburbia, and also has never once broken 55mph on a highway.

Well, there’s a first time for everything, and my mom chases this lady, several cars back but still very obviously, at a still remarkably plausible 70+mph. When this lady changes lanes, so does my mom, for over 10 miles, until she hits the county line. At which time my mom decides her lunch break must almost be up, and returns to work.

Christian Alliance Lady is never seen again at the county building.

While she probably went somewhere else in the county to collect signatures, my mom is confident that she at least cost this lady a solid hour of petitioning, which may or may not have contributed to a slightly-too-low number of signatures to successfully revoke the ordinance in question.

I keep having this image in my head of zuko falling asleep outside near the turtleduck pond. Just my boy enjoying agnis light and feeling the wind on his skin while the turtleducks decide that he makes an awsome pillow The others quickly decide that turtleduck naps are now a mandatory thing

Zuko wasn’t quite sure how he’d ended up in this situation. Like, sure, he knew, but he was surprised he let it happen.

It had been Ty Lee who had forced him outside first, saying he was too pale and the sunlight would be good for him. Granted, that had been weeks ago, but now everyone seemed to make a point of making sure that he got outside every day.

Now, don’t get him wrong, he loved being outside. He couldn’t get enough of it. But tensions with the Earth Kingdom were still high, and Zuko felt like he couldn’t afford to sit out here for the enforced hour-and-a-half every single day. 

He’d been coming out here for a month, now, and this was the first time he’d sat on the ground rather than in the wheelchair. It felt better this way.

It also, apparently, allowed a turtleduck to walk right up to him and plop down in his lap.

Zuko wasn’t wearing the royal robes, as he had no reason to. It was only early fall, and in the Fire Nation that was like summer in a lot of the rest of the world. Still, the shade from the tree and the cool grass made it all right to be in pants (as long as he wore short sleeves). It seemed like the turtleduck liked the baggy bottoms, because it had waddled confidently up to him and just... curled up in his lap and fallen asleep. It was even snoring softly.

Zuko let out a small huff. Well, he couldn’t move now. There was a sleeping turtleduck on him. He couldn’t just... disturb its rest, now, could he?

He sighed and leaned back against the tree trunk. The bark was soft, and the shady side of the tree was relatively cool. He shifted his head to the side a bit to avoid dislodging the messy topknot and the crown in his hair before letting his eyes close.

Mai was the one who found him, which was probably a good thing, because Ty Lee would have squealed too loudly.

There were guards posted around the courtyard, of course, though they were out of sight of the Fire Lord to at least keep up the illusion of privacy. 

It was always Mai or Ty Lee who got him from the courtyard every day, but Ty Lee was busy showing Suki how to chi-block, and so it had fallen to Mai to get Zuko.

What she hadn’t expected when she walked across the grass and into view of the Fire Lord was to find him fast asleep, leaning against a tree near the pond, with no less than a dozen turtleducks curled up around him.

Mai actually stopped short in her tracks. She felt a small smirk overtake her face.

She noted, in the back of her mind, that this was a good thing. That boy didn’t sleep enough, that was sure. It didn’t matter if he was working too much into the night or he was being woken by nightmares, the point still stood. 

Mai stared at the sleeping teenager for another moment before backing up and going off to find the training grounds where Suki and Ty Lee were. 

She knew at least one of them was going to want to see this.

Zuko was grateful when no one mentioned the fact that he had fallen asleep with over ten turtleducks laying on him.

When he was wheeled into the courtyard the next day, though, he almost facepalmed. 

There, right under the tree by the pond, was a folded sheet, and even more turtleducks than before, all gathered around as if they were waiting for him.

Zuko shifted out of the wheelchair, which was pulled away, and then he was alone. 

He sat on his knees in the grass, staring at the animals that all looked right back at him.

Finally, he sighed and shifted to move toward the tree. The ducks parted, a few quacking as they waddled to the side. Zuko turned and sat back against the tree. He grabbed the sheet (which was pink, leading him to immediately suspect Ty Lee as the culprit) and messily draped it over his legs. It wasn’t very heavy, and it was pretty cool in the shade, so it didn’t make him feel too hot, thankfully.

Then, the ducks, as if they had a collective consciousness, surged forward. Some spread out across the sheet, a few others leaned against his legs, a couple more went onto his legs, and a final two snuggled together comfortably in his lap.

Zuko leaned his head back, a small puff of air coming out of his nose. A tiny breeze blew from the side and ruffled his hair, shifting a few of the feathers on some of the fluffy turtleduck tails.

The air was sweet and light, a bit citric, he thought.

He wasn’t able to figure out what it was before he passed out.

When he was woken up by a grinning Ty Lee what seemed to be an hour-and-a-half later, there were at least five more turtleducks around him than there had been when he had first fallen asleep. 

He made a note to himself to find out just how many turtleducks were in this courtyard alone before he straightened up, murmuring apologies as he moved turtleducks around to escape his prison. 

He deftly ignored the way Ty Lee giggled from where she stood a few feet away.

I was tagged by @theseinconvenientchristmaslights @tobeakingbesideyousomehow and @prettiestperrie to post my favourite pictures of myself from 2017. I’ve been working so much this week that i didn’t have time to sit down and do this earlier.

This year has been a good one, with lots of wonderful memories to look back on. I finished high school (yay!) so the second photo is from last day at school. I ate an enormous candy floss in Paros and it was awsome, and I celebrated midsummer in Sweden, as I do every year, hence the flower crown. 🌸 Not everything was good, but the good moments far outweigh the bad ones so. I’m quite happy with how my 2017 was.

I got into an accident on a rainy day. I did not hold collision or comprehensive. Because I skidded into a ditch and the car rolled, an oil leak occurred. The federal government is not going to provide funding for private insurance. The second reason is it's common knowledge that the best Universities in the U.S. are private schools such as Duke, Stanford, and the Ivy League. These universities fill most of the highest paying jobs in the country. Some jobs even go as far as to require a degree from one of these schools (Stock Brokers on NYC Stock Exchange.) These highly paid graduates can donate larger amounts of money back to their respective colleges than the average Joe who graduated from a generic state funded university. No one is going to donate money to the private insurance companies. We can't even get all the people who qualify for insurance to sign up and that's the problem! Look, I have no way of knowing whether the public option will work or won't but when faulty logic is used to support it I become concerned. When most of the people supporting the public option are from California (a state where the middle class is few and far between) I become more concerned.
