The leaves were falling as if it were autumn, the wind was blowing hard through the trees, making them tremble and sway in a resounding fury… and the leaves, being torn from their branches, were sadly crossing the landscape, which was turning crimson, reflecting the pain of the sky. The storm raged without rain. The wind was too much, it dragged the dense clouds towards other parts of the sky, pressing them tightly together and making them thunder over the plains, the paths and the mountains where they passed…
And she, the tenant of that small hotel in which she had taken shelter, was looking out the window at the thundering sunset. The weather had changed drastically, causing her to change the itinerary of her trip. She had no plans to stop along the way, let alone in that place lost in the shadows. She had heard stories about that place that had made her tremble and, for the same reason, she had promised herself never to visit it in her life, but nature does not share our plans, she does and undoes as she pleases, leaving us at the expense of uncertainty. She pondered on this as she watched the first drops of rain fall on the window pane. She decided to close the curtain and wait in the room for the storm to subside, but something in her chest distressed her more than troubled her. From the moment she set foot in that place, she felt sad, as if a crimson stain had permeated her heart, filling her with a deep sadness. Her eyes, suddenly, began to shed tears that, brushing against her velvety cheeks, slid lightly until they ended at the corners of her lips. She did not understand this sadness, nor where it came from. She tried to understand it, to analyze it, to give it a meaning and a probable sense…, and suddenly she came across a memory; an image that made her heart flutter painfully. She put her hands to her chest, clutching her blouse tightly, while tears fell and a moan from her mouth made itself heard. The room was filled with darkness, it was no longer only the storm that was present as it lashed at the window panes, but the one the woman was suffering, who, for no reason, threw herself on the bed to cry. While her hands trembled on her chest, clutching her blouse, her lips pronounced a name… and it hurt her more, it hurt so deeply that her throat closed at the mention of it. She wanted to stand up, but she could not. That name subdued her, repressed her, forced her to stay lying on that cold bed. It was then that she closed her eyes tightly and saw she was not alone, at the side of the bed and standing lay a tired and gloomy looking man, staring at her in silence. A flash of lightning was heard in the distance, shaking the ground they were walking on; she on the bed and the mysterious man at his feet. Trembling, the woman slowly sat up, wiping her face as best she could while clinging her frightened gaze to the man who kept staring at her with those eyes flooded with darkness and emptiness; they were black as the night, stormy as the water that rushed outside and deep as two abysses that absorbed the breath of the one who looked at them.
"Who are you and how did you get in here?" tremulously asked the woman as if she remembered nothing, she wanted to stand up, but the man's presence seemed to keep her fastened to the bed.
The man approached, with slow shuffling steps, to the edge of the bed. The rain continued to fall, while the woman breathed nervously and agitated.
"Don't come near me! Answer me how did you get into the room?", entering in desperation, she questioned him again, but, like the first time, she did not receive an answer either. The man who had a pale, emaciated and dying countenance, raised his bony hand towards her, trying to touch her face. However, the woman did not let him touch her, moving a little backwards, she prevented the man's hand from reaching her. The man groaned in pain and also in anger. Suddenly, his eyes began to fill with a strange light, like a small flame growing in the center of his eyeball; he had no pupils, only two flames of a strange fire that began to grow as the pain and anger grew inside him. The woman wanted to scream, but her lips did not respond. Her whole body had been paralyzed; her limbs trembled, her stomach contracted, her chest rose and fell in agitation. The man stretched out his hand, reaching up to the woman's forehead with the tip of his index finger and....
